Slightly redoing all the Links. Honestly I think Four's design is the most drastic. I can't stand seeing him in just the tabard, he needed some pumpkin pants. Also in the past I drew him with a chubbier body with a thin neck, which didn't look right. With the thin neck and double chin, I'm very happy with his body type.

TMS - Author's note (Arc 1)

Today I'm stepping up to talk about TMS for a while. It's going to be a lot of blah blah, no TLDR, so hang in there or save it for later if you're brave enough, haha (¯▿¯)

So, another chapter of TMS draws to a close, with the difference that this time it's a whole saga that's coming to an end! That's a big relief for me, given that we recently celebrated the comic's 4th anniversary! That's almost the entire duration of my college life, and that's both an impressive and terrifying achievement lol.

The comic is divided into 3 arcs, each separated by an interlude. The first runs from part 1 to 8, with 201 pages total (wow!). In it, you are introduced to Mel, a young skeleton with a rather unclear past, who accidentally arrives in a a foreign timeline, along with other well known skeletons. Nowadays it's just an isekai haha. Throughout the arc, she proves to be a cautious Monster, quiet and somewhat withdrawn compared to the other skeletons we come across, notably Rus, Blue and Axe, who each got their own sequences.

Still, Mel in the last few scenes is starting to show more initiative, and the interlude will make this even more obvious, but we can expect her to open up a lot more during the next Arc, about her past, motives, goals and thoughts.

I could go on at length about what's in store for us in the interlude, but given that it's due for release sometime in 2024, I'm going to talk about the general story line instead. Although we follow Mel who is foreign to what's going on in this universe prior to her arrival, the other characters and events suggest that strange phenomena are taking place in Ebott, leading many people to become embroiled in a highly unusual affair. Crossing timelines, earthquakes, mysterious apparitions in the forest, something is afoot and the situation seems to be at a turning point when Mellow gets here.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with the situation and what to do next. Some are serious and pragmatic, like Black, others optimistic, like Blue, and others, like Papyrus, find themselves completely backed into a corner, forced to do their best to fix whatever needs to be.

A special case, however, is Axe, whom Mel meets in the forest as she investigates Mt. Ebott. The two have diametrically opposed views of their current condition. One wants to return to her world by any means necessary, regardless of the advantages of a peaceful world. The other, not so much. Both refuse to talk about their past and ignore the other's circumstances, but a sense of familiarity drives them to try to convince the other to stay or go. These are two stark positions to reconcile, and while we can expect Blue and the other skeletons to have their own views on the subject too, Mel and Axe are strangely "committed" in this interraction and resort to violence, spurred on by a unknown substance that causes Axe to momentarily lose control.

Mel is wounded, Axe unconscious, and the status quo disrupted. Other consequences follow this confrontation, and several questions are raised: Can Blue really help Mel when Axe accuses him of having already given up on going home himself? What is this mysterious entity Axe came across a few days earlier? The vibrations? What was that substance that made him go berserk? And what made him stop? Can we trust Mel and what she tells us? And many others.

Because as I'm sure many of you have come to realize, Mel has proven to be a rather unreliable narrator (or at least character since you don't follow her actual POV). Blatantly lying or omitting facts to others and readers alike, it's hard to know her next move and whether she's genuinely forgotten important infos (for it's well established at this stage that she has hazy memories and that they continue to deteriorate. The same applies to her health).

In the same way, each part of TMS so far has raised more questions than it has answered, but I can confidently say that the road is paved for Arc 2 to answer and put in perspective most of them, ahah.

Ah, this is also the moment when I can announce that ALL skeletons will be featured in the Interlude. Should be. Hopefully.

I'd also like to point out a few narrative changes for Act 2! The central characters, in particular. Original cast characters such as Undyne, Metatton and a veiled character will be more formally introduced, but we'll also meet up with characters we've already bumped into, but in a much more concrete way, such as Frisk and Alphys. I can't wait for you to get to know them! You can also expect more pov changes, more elipses and so on. Things are moving fast.

But that begs the question. When is it due? As said before, the first Arc lasted 4 years and I'm entering my last (and most crucial) year of college. I still don't know if I'll have time to get much of it done in 2025, but on the other hand, I'd like to strike while the iron's hot lest TMS be discontinued after a 1-year hiatus and my entry into the working world. Student loan, life and all. There are still plenty of things I'd like to bring to this project, and I now have the skills to actually carry them out, but on the other hand, the time involved has also increased exponentially.

Tbh with you, as an animation student, it's been one of my dreams since 2020 to do one of TMS's sequences in animatic or full anim, or even a trailer for the comic! But as a solo team, it's just unreasonable and I know it. But the parasite ----. Don't get me wrong, I could, but it would take me months and it's just not realistic when 80% of my time has to go into professionnal work that goes into my portefolio or adult stuff. I can't affort to invest time in solo-ing it or to recruit and lead a team over one side project of mine ( ´ ▿ ` ) So we'll most likely stick to classic pages.

But the same goes for collabs, community events, side stories, asks, edits, dubs, testing other platforms, regular animatics. Love all of that. Really. But I never have the time to because, man, I'd love to actually finish TMS someday ahah. It all comes back to the age-old problem of “lots of ideas, little time”, and it's so frustrating but, it's a choice I have to stick to, so bear with me as I vent my frustration. Just for tonight (´ ∀ `, *)

So, yes. Act 2. Next year? Probably? It's a long interlude, so you'll get smth in the meantime, but it's likely to decide the future of TMS and whether Act 2 sees the light of day as I imagine it or if...well, something else replaces it.

Anyway, I also wanted to thank you for your engagement with Part 8!

I don't know how other comic artists experience it, but for me it's a very isolated work, and as much as I love working alone, I enjoy the interaction with readers most of all.

Seeing people losing their mind over a serious scene, or chuckling at a dumb gag, or just simping over the characters and art. It's just great, and very rewarding. Likewise, I have a blast answering questions about the TMS universe, reading tags and receiving memes, witnessing people go increasingly mad with messages full of indecipherable screams and hearts. Makes me giggle and kick my feet everytime and I can't wait to drop the next lore bomb or funny scene bwahahah

And while we're on the subject, I'd like to say a special word of thanks to the legions of rebloggers who make it their business to spread the word about TMS. You sweet, lovely, candy scented folks. And to my dear mutuals - with whom I interact objectively so little - who have no idea how a single message or note from them drives me bonkers. Thanks for dropping by. author’s note | chapter 15: beasts (i) 🗡️

now the dust has settled somewhat… it’s about time we talked about chapter 15, a chapter that sure did take its sweet time coming. at long (long) last, we are back and kicking off our flashback chapters, where we find out what went down in crookshanks’ ginny weasley’s war. a picnic it was not! let’s get into it - it being these indulgent author’s notes i love to subject you to and that you love to humour.

writing notes and headcanons

chapter titles: these flashback chapters are called beasts because baby it’s all been building up to this! this chapter and the ones to follow are really the heart of this story - the title track, if you will. at last, ginny is talking, plunged back into last year as she testifies at the inquiry. the beasts of the chapter title, and the fic at large, are people - or, at least, the parts of a self that lies within all people; the beasts within  - but the beasts are also the memories of the war themselves, unwieldy and untameable, memories which expose all the savagery, brutality and hypocrisy on which the wizarding world is built. (these chapters have been my personal beasts to wrangle with for far, far too long.) pls be reassured, askbox anons, that calling these chapters beasts does not mean they are the final chapters! the final chapter has had a name for a very long time and is in fact something different. i suspect we have a good 6+ chapters to go yet. (and if experience has taught me anything, it’s that i will probably split some of those in two. chapter plans! who needs em! not this clown!)

writing ginny’s war: there have been many many brilliant attempts to write ginny’s war in fic over the years, and i feel very aware of the danger of reinventing the wheel. i’m also aware that there are tropes that abound (for good reason) in such fics and that are hard to avoid. nevertheless, any hinny writer worth their salt tends to want to take a run-up at writing DH from ginny’s POV, a book she spends largely off stage, glimpsed only in passing mentions of her that harry witnesses or in memories that haunt harry as he embarks on the horcrux hunt, and gosh darn it i want my turn! the trouble with writing nny’s war, though, is that you have to write chapters that are strongly anchored in plot rather than vibe, except you’re not working with your own plot, but much more tightly confined by canonical timelines and major narrative landmarks, which demands a lot more scrambling around on potter search if - like me - half the fun of writing fic is playing around with trying to write a story that is more strictly canon coherent. still, we love a challenge, and it’s just as much fun to subvert harry’s narration/assumptions of what is happening elsewhere in the wizarding world during DH (and especially what is going on at hogwarts) as it is to get stuck into the text. i set myself a series of rules, one of which is that whenever harry thinks ginny is somewhere or doing something, she has to be doing the opposite of that. he’s terrified she’s in danger at the wedding? she’s sat on the sofa with gabrielle snotting veela snot down her arm. he’s sure she, neville and luna are sat together on hogwart’s express plotting snape’s demise? she’s obviously too smart for that. yung hazza has fucked around long enough and now that young man is about to find out. more of this in future author’s notes once we’re back at school proper - let these serve as little light hints about how things might go down…  but for now:

the order and resistance: in deathly hallows, harry and co crash out of the wedding the night the wizarding state is seized in a coup by voldemort, ejecting ginny from the centre-stage narrative but also detaching the trio from the trajectory of most of the wizarding world for august 1997 - at least, until they go to the ministry to get the horcrux from umbridge - and from the workings and wartime activities of the order of the phoenix. this happens, ofc, just as the order becomes the official underground resistance. of course we know, as readers, that the plot and the outcome of the war will hinge on the trio succeeding on their quest: this is harry’s series after all. but to imagine the perspective of the order off-stage, the trio - three teenagers who have needed order fighters to rescue them from battles with death eaters two years running - are just off doing a weird dumbledore sidequest while the real business of fighting this war and actively resisting voldemort’s regime must surely fall to the order. nevertheless, the order lack an obvious general post mad-eye’s death and clear direction beyond low level sabotage and surveillance. we are told the burrow is now official headquarters and that the weasleys remain in their home and resume going about their daily business as a fig leaf for their resistance activities. 

the order and the traitor: crucial context that harry largely dismisses but that is clearly on the older order members’ minds in the summer of 1997 is mundungus’ betrayal and the idea that there might be a rat. harry is so convinced he would not be betrayed: remus calls him naive for it, which harry bristles at but ultimately decides to disregard. would the others, though? the order are still smarting from the wounds inflicting by the apparent treachery the night of the seven potters (a betrayal that cost their most seasoned fighter his life); fleur, for her part, spends the run-up to the happiest day of her life convincing hagrid is going to get binned, hop on mic and reveal harry’s whereabouts half-way through the cutting of the cake. kingsley and remus were livid at the idea of a traitor the night of the rescue; remus, of course, for obvious and deeply personal reasons, though he also makes himself suspicious by vanishing (to run out on his preggo wife), no doubt raising some eyebrows among his fellow fighters. all this adds an extra layer of tension to the summer of ’97 at order hq, especially when there are yung women wandering about who are about to go back to the den of vipers that is hogwarts under death eater control. and speaking of…

what about ginny? one can only assume, then, that under these circumstances ginny must have gone back to much the same unglamorous infantilising existence she endured in the holidays during ootp: living at order hq, barred by virtue of her age and mother’s protectiveness from order activities, only without harry, ron and hermione to keep her company as kindred spirits, underrage and overlooked. for this reason, i have ginny spend this chapter confined to the claustrophobic house, becoming much closer to a grimmauld-like space than the burrow has ever been so far in canon, and almost entirely alone: protected as is possible, but shut out, left to her own devices. it is at once a very safe position to be in but also a vulnerable one - too much time to think and stew, a lonely character whose loneliness has previously driven her to ruin, back to being lonely again. i wanted there to be shades of sirius and ootp harry in it - restless, cooped up, prowling around, growing bitter and isolated - and also (as the echoes to chapter 2 suggest) echoes of an earlier time in ginny’s life when she was lonely, and vulnerable, and ripe for the picking. too much time to think, especially to think about…

those pesky horcruxes: in revisiting late HBP/DH and preparing to write these chapters one of the things that i found most baffling was how astonishingly cavalier and clumsy the trio seem to be discussing crucial information about horcruxes around ginny or within her plausible earshot. ginny of course knows harry has gone with dumbledore the night the tower is struck. after dumbledore dies, the four of them spend ‘all of their time together’, harry carries the locket everywhere with him in his pocket (‘not as a talisman, but as a reminder of what it had cost and what remained still to do’). hermione may wait until the door up the dormitories closes behind ginny to talk about RAB, butt it’s not exactly a watertight way of remaining out of earshot (especially given ginny’s canonical curiosity and expertise at listening at doors). while at the burrow, hermione still stays in ginny’s room, presumably packing up all manner of clue-like items around her: molly may try her best to use ginny as a barrier to the trio getting together to plot next steps, hermione still manages to slip away and leave ginny in order to seek out harry and ron to plot next steps elsewhere in the house (‘Oh, Ron’s mum forgot that she asked me and Ginny to change the sheets yesterday’). what’s more, the trio openly invite order members’ views on the items in dumbledore’s will, and we know that this encounter had such a lasting impression on ginny that she commits to stealing back harry’s rightful property (the sword of gryffindor) at great personal risk having presumably stewed on it for quite some time. the most fun i had in this chapter was adding in the little hints that, had the trio invited ginny into their confidence, they might have found someone quicker on the uptake on some of their trickiest mysteries than the three of them ever were. wouldn’t ginny the quidditch enthusiast and former seeker know that snitches have flesh memories? doesn’t it seem possible - even probable - that ginny explored grimmauld place thoroughly and found the little sign on regulus’ room long before harry even set foot in grimmauld place? wouldn’t ginny, of all people, remember exactly what gryffindor’s sword was used for last time and start to wonder why it need be used again? she is so close - and yet! so far. but isn’t that always ginny weasley’s way?

the weasleys’ dilemma: i have had a fair few very compelling messages in the askbox criticising harry for leaving ginny to it, assuming she would be safe (how could she be!) and taking insufficient interest in her wellbeing beyond pining for as a comfort for himself on lonely tent-watch nights. i have also had a few criticising the weasleys for much the same thing. i think these are very very reasonable and understandable takes with a lot of truth to them. what i will say though is that this is a period of the narrative where nobody had good choices to make, including harry, but also including ginny’s whole family. the weasleys deciding to send ginny weasley back into hogwarts when she is very obviously and publicly close to both harry potter and to the order is, on the one hand, a completely mental proposition. but the other thing to remember, and that is consistently and widely overlooked about the weasleys, is that they are a family of soldiers. they are generations of committed resistors and agents of conscience, ideologically-committed and devoted to an extremely morally worthy cause that actually really, really matters. the new state is carrying out an attempted genocide: if ever there were a time to bang on about the greater good, to not put your own family’s safety over the safety of hundreds of others of innocent victims, wouldn’t it be this one? i care a lot in this fic about making clear that although there are malicious bad actors in this narrative whose actions cause harm and pain, there’s also lots of proper goodies trying to do their best and make the best moral choice under exceptionally difficult circumstances - whose actions also cause harm and pain. often they have to make very tough utilitarian choices about what the right course of action should be: they have to live with some amount of pain being the direct result, often pain for the people they love most in the world. and so the weasleys send ginny back to hogwarts, telling themselves she will be safe as a pureblood, as their family (and the trio’s) cover: business as usual, nothing to see here. 

voices of dissent: it was important to me to have two voices in this chapter who raise doubts about sending ginny back. one i’ll come back to in a later author’s note, but is charlie, although he does not fight for ginny to stay at home, and stays silent as her family sees her off. the other one is molly weasley, the consistent voice in canon for children being allowed to have a childhood, overly protective and patronising but fundamentally trying to do something powerful and good: letting kids be kids. of course, as soon as ginny has set herself the sword quest, she is a one-track mind: she is going back to school, she is getting the trio the sword, she is helping fight voldemort, and she is not listening to her mother. would ginny weasley want to be protected, really?

a very irritated author's note about writing fanfiction: moot...not really!

Someone left a comment on one of my recent posts (if you find it, great. if not, doesn't change what I'm about to write) about saying my writing is deplorable and that he's a man being abused by the justice system and in all of this, writing smut is what I'm possibly doing.

I do not need a lecture on what is right and wrong. Personally, I started believing in Luigi because his case represented a cause and the extremely cruel portrayal he's subjected to simply for being a suspect is ridiculous.

I have personal, dirty laundry to air with the healthcare industry so, yeah, no wonder I'm into Luigi...and his case. I am not a doll with no head writing about Luigi because he just looks good and I thought he was some pretty boy I could inject into my fantasies.

There seems to be an issue with accepting that fanfiction is purely fictional and is based on (sometimes) true things or is again ENTIRELY MADE UP. These are all ENTIRELY MADE UP. FICTION. IT'S CALLED FICTION FOR A REASON.

I don't know why it is needed to go out of your way and tell me what I'm writing is deplorable when I'm writing about a random guy whose captured everyone's attention for being a symbol.

Fiction. Everyone THESE ARE FICTION. For all I care, you could copy and paste the shit I write and find/replace Luigi with another guy's name and imagine it's them doing whatever I say Luigi does in my work. I don't give a fuck.

There is a certain level of detachment that is needed in writing fanfiction. Personally, I do not sit and think about Luigi fucking me. I think he's good looking and has potential so I write the imagines and yeah, I fangirl, because...because it's Luigi Mangione.

Some people on here do imagine Luigi fucking them and that's entirely okay - Tumblr and other websites are supposed to be a safe-space where you can say what you want WITHIN REASONABLE BOUNDARIES and exist happily without worrying that your imagination is being taken out of context and scolded.

It's true that Luigi is being unfairly treated and the whole shebang. I know. I've made a post about it. I regularly re-blog stuff relevant to him. I KNOW.

I already deal with enough shit personally and I honestly don't need people coming after me telling me what I'm doing is wrong. This is a personal choice I'm making and it's very valid.

I updated Floyd's Dreaming of You comments in the Update Masterlist for the Dreaming of You Series!

It went from... I don't think I saved what I had, but I remember it said something like "He missed you and it shows." It had a little description and some comments to a sophisticated and thought-out summary. It's the closest to an actual summary than any of the others, surprisingly. This is the Updated Version:

"After falling in love with you in the real world, the line between reality and dream blurs for Floyd. Things take an uncanny and disturbing turn in his relationship, and he freaks out. He tries everything to bring you back to your usual self, but nothing works… He’s never been that skilled with the emotional stuff. That was always your job. Now, you’re not the same, and he can’t ask for help. He forces himself to leave before the situation gets worse. It seems like you’re a lost cause… He kinda hates you, but also misses you a lot. When you meet him in the sea, all he wants to do is get you away from him. Floyd doesn’t trust himself to not accidentally hurt you again…… (that was a noice summary on my part) Original Little Mermaid reference. Floyd gets ADHD meds and uses his newfound powers for chaos. Everyone should watch out, because he’s become consistently smarter. My second favorite is Azul. Although Jade is beyond exceptional."

Very exciting! Floyd lovers, get ready! I finally figured out how to write him in a way that makes me feel good and is in character. He confused me for a long time. However, I pieced together what my issue was and how to resolve it.

It felt like Floyd didn't care about other people, because he didn't think about others before he acted. The problem was that I knew Floyd did care about people, like Jade and Azul. There were certain moments where it showed, like whenever Azul was sinking into darkness at the end of his dream. Floyd was panicking and trying to get him out, so he does care. It's just that his actions don't usually show it, since he doesn't consider how he affects others.

That's my biggest pet peeve. Floyd doesn't listen to anybody, including those he cares about. You also can't force someone to listen, either, so if he's not willing, he won't. Therefore, in his current state, I couldn't see him being a reliable, good, or healthy partner. You can have someone unpredictable and fun, while still listening to you. Some people might find a different way to handle this issue, but I decided to have Reader give him ADHD meds. You take one glance at the man and can tell he has severe ADHD.

As someone with ADHD, I understand the difficulty and symptoms that he has. If anxiety weren't a huge factor, I probably wouldn't care about others' reactions to me either, especially if I had people who supported me no matter what. Floyd was also the spoiled/favorite child, so I don't think people had a fundamental issue with it. They just learned how to navigate around it. Therefore, he doesn't see anything wrong with his behavior and how it affects others. That implies he doesn't have an intrinsic drive to change it. Obviously, his stance could easily change if he met someone he was dedicated to, but I imagine it would be extremely irritating, frustrating, and distressing to try to change it. That's how I would feel. It's also different from challenging and interesting. Floyd challenges people for fun... It's hard to explain, but trying to work on something more difficult, like a fundamental aspect where you don't get dopamine from it, is painful. If I weren't forced to do it, I would quit because it's too hard. He lived without changing that part of himself, so he'd probably take the easy solution, which is to leave. Again, I would, too. Therefore, taking an easier route, like ADHD meds, would help a lot.

I'm taking from my own experience, but medication changed my life. I could think and be myself while doing tasks I usually wouldn't be interested in. It was great! It also freed up space in my mind to think about other people. I was getting what I needed, dopamine, so I didn't have to worry about myself all the time. I think it would be the same thing with Floyd, so that's what I'm doing.

Name: William Lemaître (he's Franco-American), or simply Liam.

Age: Around his late 30s to early 40s when his story takes place (which takes place in the 1980s).

Personality: Liam is an emotionally detached and pragmatic horror author who prioritizes his craft above all else. He has a dry, deadpan demeanor (think of Elise Ecklund or maybe a slightly toned down GLaDOS... or MoistCr1TiKaL), and views people as tools of inspiration for his work. Despite his reserved nature, he does have a rather unhinged sense of humor (like a lot of artists). His obsession with authenticity drives both his writing and his crimes.

This is a character for an original story I had in mind based on the concept of an obsessive and perfectionistic horror author who would go through extreme lengths to make his novels feel ‘realistic’ and ‘immersive’ (he's basically a serial killer [and possible cannibal] who uses his victims as first-hand experiences for his writings [and noting down the experiences in notebooks/journals]—his methods tend to be really inconsistent due to different things happening within his stories).

The name of the story in question is “Author's Note”

His character is also kinda multifandom-esque (he had a FNAF AU) so...

He actually lives in a city, but he would sometimes go on trips to towns... and sometimes a town would end up becoming an unlucky subject of his “research.”

So @askhomerungirl and I are engaged (yes, OOC-wise)

{Hey everyone! So, this is something that I've already shared on my main blog a while ago, but I figured I'd elaborate here because things all started on this blog so to speak.

Being in the Ososan fandom through this blog helped me meet people who, for some, became very dear friends, including @askhomerungirl 's mun, who later went on to become my queerplatonic partner... 6 years and a half ago already. I'd never mentioned it here but it's been a little while now, haha!

We're from different countries, so we're only able to see each other months apart and for only about 2 weeks at a time typically. Throw in a lot of happy moments together, plus a travel ban that lasted almost 2 years between our countries in reaction to the pandemic, and we've come to a point where we'd like to be able to be physically together on a more permanent basis than that, and as cliché at that is, marriage seems to be the most surefire way to make that happen.

So last month, on my latest visit to them, while we were in Disneyland to celebrate their birthday, I did the thing© at the end of the World Of Color water show – which, as they later pointed out, wound up being very on point for our respective ask blog characters, so, y'know, that works 🙈

So yeah! We're engaged now, and the next step will be months and months of immigration paperwork to have the right to marry in the same country to begin with. It's a very personal update, but y'know, considering the history and how somewhat fitting that is, I figured I'd share it here 🙈

Hey Guys!

So as you can see I've been gone for a couple of months, and I want to apologize for my inactivity. I got pretty busy with traveling and the holidays, and then I went straight into exams once I got back.

I've been feeling pretty burnt out writing wise, but I think I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. I just kind of kept forgetting to log in and keep everyone updated for a few weeks at a time.

Again, I'm sorry for just kind of disappearing. I'm hoping to have some new fics up within the next few days, so just keep an eye out if you'd like! Thank you all for being patient with me and thank you to those who asked about how I was doing!
