hello. you do not know me so don't attempt to think otherwise. i saw you mention that stephen king story "the moving finger" and i was wondering what your actual thoughts on it were. i read it again for the first time in a while and quickly realized it was really kind of terrible. i still think the ending is fun but it's like. surprisingly racist?

i was going to say it was the 70s but then i checked and it turns out it was first published in the 90s so i do think it's a case of steve doing coke again. but yeah what do you think of the story and/or stephen king as a whole??

As for my thoughts on that story... Honestly, I read it over 20 years ago. Literally all I remember about it is what I've already mentioned. So, I don't really have any thoughts on it.

Voxina, do we know if Bella Ramsey had ever interacted with Louis before Soccer Aid? I just find these recent interactions interesting because Bella mentioned Louis on Fallon or Kimmel (can’t remember which) before the Soccer Aid rehearsals even started—so she already liked him. And well, it’s kinda interesting considering she’s part of the community.

No, not that I recall, darling.

But keep in mind that when Bella mentioned Louis on Kimmel they must have met many times before. All the players had taped short promo segments, had photoshoots, etc. well before the event itself. So it makes sense that the two of them and everyone else would have met even before the Soccer Aid rehearsals started. Bella's participation was officially comfirmed on June 4th, while Louis' was officially announced on March 10th, but it's highly likely that in the space of those months they met and gradually bonded. And the more I think about it, the more their friendship makes sense. Bella is the same age as the Tommo twins and of course Louis took them under his supportive and protective wing naturally to make them feel comfortable in a context mostly composed of grown adult cishet men. That's a big brother in action right here. He really treated them like a yet another younger sibling and and it was one of the most adorable things that this Soccer Aid gave us. Their friendship may look unexpected, but it feels like something genuine. We saw between them the cutest interactions these past days. Like, they really are the duo we didn't know we needed but now we feel like we can't live without lol!! And the Soccer Aid PR team (maybe Louis & Bella's too) must have noticed too, especially given our reactions to every glimpse of an interaction between the two of them versus any other type of content. That's why they posted their photos from their official SM accounts, paired them up during the training camp days, had them interviewed together, and finally chosen them as the starting lineup for the match. This is because no matter how sincere their bond may be, one must never forget that there is always a big PR machine behind everything that is intended for public consumption and that knows what to push (narratively speaking), how, and why. Note for example how the interest of the GP and some fans as well has quickly shifted from the orchestrated drama around the Louis-Zara-Sam love triangle to the friendship between Louis and Bella.

sorry to bring up tlou discourse again but is it just me or do the people who complain about tlou being badly written only ever talk about bella/ellie. they’re like “this show sucks horribly written” and their proof is only ever ellie scenes lol. like lets be for real if we’re talking about cringe dialogue there were a couple wonky lines from dina abby and even joel this season but no one is nearly as upset about any of those as they are about the fact the bella is ellie. I don’t want to generalize but it just feels like people are so negatively biased (even subconsciously) against bella in every way and they were before the season even came out. the second I came online after ep1 and saw everyone saying “omg dina is carrying the show already!!” I rolled my eyes sooo hard bc I knew what was about to happen. and then that narrative spread on tiktok or whatever bc no one can form original thoughts anymore. thats why I can’t take it seriously when people are like “omg they made dina the main character BAD WRITING” bc 1. if you’re paying attention AT ALL ellie has always been the main character and 2. don’t pretend like you guys don’t actually want dina to be the main character because you can’t stand bella being the lead. it sucks so much why does bella constantly have to prove themselves to this audience when they’ve been carrying the show since they were a teenager, meanwhile isa kaitlyn and pedro are praised constantly despite the supposed “bad writing” (they all deserve the praise!) most of the time it feels like people just completely overlook bella in favor of them and people are WAY more critical of everything bella does but try to play it off as “bad writing!!!!” sorry again for the rant

i totally agree with you. like yes some lines did make me cringe a tad but i honestly don’t mind a bit of corniness or overly sincere writing. some of my favorite tv shows of all time are this is us, the fosters, heartstopper, etc so i truly do have a soft spot for some cheesy moments here and there.

it’s really hard for me to not look at bellie criticism sideways because of how intense the hate for bella has been since the pilot. truly feels like people use the “bad writing” as a cop out to avoid acknowledging how talented bella is and how good they are in this role. not to say that you can’t criticize the writing or have your own opinions but must we really preface every piece of bella praise with “they didn’t write the script they’re doing the best with what they have” 🙄

it’s also so braindead to interpret dina having more agency in seattle and more of a relationship with joel as “making her the main character and sidelining ellie” they are very much equal partners in seattle with their own strengths and motivations that oscillate from complimenting to opposing each other that was very interesting to watch. and i guess i might need to backtrack on letting people have their own opinions because y’all keep saying the writing is treating the audience like it’s stupid but a lot you are very stupid when it comes to these characterization changes (that very much make sense for the hbo version of this story) no shade.

if you’re still hating on bella’s ellie after they’ve proven themselves more than capable please do us all a favor and turn off the tv and get a job.

Oh god he’ll occasionally catch glimpses of her (or. more. John would) and it’s just this whole thing of “A woman keeps appearing to me in moments of anguish and terror. The worst part is she always seems to be smiling and crying at the same time.”

Bella being really pissed about the fact that, for some reason, she’s tethered to the one guy she really wouldn’t want to be. John continuously asking “Orthur, who is the woman I keep seeing? Why did you seem so distraught when I described her, and even more so when she whispered ‘little bitch’ to us after falling down another hole? Orthur why are you putting your head in your hands. Orthur get the hell up what are you doing.”

What is your favorite part of writing fanfiction?

Honestly, it's getting to explore different facets of the characters' personalities. I do a lot of fix-its and AUs and it's so much fun to put these characters that I already love into different situations and seeing who they would be if things were different. They're like character studies with a plot.

Okay here's part 2 of how I think the Cullens would react if you broke up with them as a prank, but this time, it's the Cullen women!

As you stand in front of your lover, you fight to push down the smile threatening to reveal your farce, instead trying to evoke tears to make your words believable. "I think we should break up," you say, a dramatic tear rolling down your face; trying to imagine it's real, more tears begin to fall as you continue, "I haven't been happy for a while now, and I don't want to hold you back. We can coordinate exchanging our things later, but right now I think I should just go." You stand there, tears streaming down your face, waiting for their response.

Alice:

The sound of Alice's soft laugh filled your ears, "You know I let you go through that for fun, I saw you decide this weeks ago. You can't fool me," she said matter-of-factly. "I know, I just wanted to have fun," you replied with a grin, taking her smooth hand in yours.

Bella:

"What are you even talking about? No, you can't leave me!" Bella cried, throwing her arms around you, "We're partners, we're mates, you can't just leave me!" Your arms wrapped around her, holding her cool and slender body to you, "I'm sorry," you said softly, stroking Bella's hair as she sobbed into your chest, "it was an April Fool's prank, I didn't think you'd react like this," you replied, placing soft kisses on her cheeks. "You can't say things like that to me," came her response, "never say that to me again." Bella stated firmly, stamping her foot lightly. "I won't, I promise," you said, holding her tightly.

Esme:

Esme stood there, taking in your words as tears softly rolled down her face. Her words were measured and careful as she responded, "Do you want help packing your things?" Her voice was soft and sad, you felt your heart breaking at her emotion. You closed the distance between the two of you, taking her small body into your arms, "It was a prank, I'm sorry. I'm not leaving you. I could never leave you, Esme," you whispered to her. She continued crying softly until she quieted down, she raised her head and met your eyes, "Never do that again," she said firmly, lightly smacking your chest with a closed fist, a smile spreading across her face. You pulled her close to you once more, "I won't, I promise," you chuckled.

Rosalie:

Rosalie didn't have to think before she spoke, "Whatever, I was getting bored of you anyway," she said, her words stung more than any venom ever could. This time, it was your heart that broke, tears rolled down your face rapidly and you couldn't stop them. "Oh my god, relax," she sighed, rolling her eyes at you, "we share a Google calendar, 'breakup prank' isn't the most subtle calendar reminder to exist," she answered, chuckling. You couldn't help but laugh with her, wiping your eyes, "Guess I won't try that again," you stated. "You'd better not!" Rosalie exclaimed.

In my experience, a good 70% of fics tagged “Bella with a Backbone” end up writing Sookie Stackhouse in Bella Swan’s place, minus the southern belleness and telepathy. And that’s not inherently bad. I love Sookie dearly. But. Please. Please, if you’re going to approach Bella this way, remember Sookie exists in a universe in which vampires have actual exploitable weaknesses, and it’s possible for a human to injure, incapacitate, and even kill them. Bella exists in a universe in which vampires are all but indestructible, especially to humans. There’s only so much she can do. And there are far reaching consequences that shape her character and the narrative. Just. Please

anyways i’m pretty ambivalent towards bella/mike. as far as i know he was a pretty decent guy throughout the saga, but i also haven’t read midnight sun, and apparently he was thinking some pretty gross stuff about bella. she’s also thoroughly repulsed by the idea of being with him so i wouldn’t wish that on her lol… but as a ship i think it would work!

now for bella and alice (heavy sigh)

contrary to popular opinion, i don’t think they would’ve worked out at all. obviously i’m a bit biased because i’m team Bella-Get-The-Hell-Away-From-The-Cullens, but i have other reasons too!!

they’re just so different. not even in an opposites attract way do i think they would work! bella HATES being the center of attention, alice loves it and is constantly putting bella there. alice is lavish and graceful, bella prefers simplicity and she’s clumsy. i just don’t think they would work out, their personalities would just clash too much!

I want to cover the trauma of his child missing, then finding her coated in just as much blood as Sarah had once been (and gasping in pain? fuck that man up) and I intend to explore the healing portion of Ellie's injuries as well as the shit that goes wrong from them.

Basically, I'd like Joel to have a really shit-tacular time, but I'll give them their soft (definitely not fighting) moments too.

It would be nice if I could get crackin' on that this week and post it next Sunday with episode two's release, but I have strep throat rn, so no promises on that.

The current working title is 'Thanatophobia' - the intense fear/dread of losing a loved one. (and extends to death in general)
