Blood of the Living Chapter Three

Hello, everyone!

I’m pleased to announce that Blood of the Living’s public demo has now been updated to include the entirety of Chapter Three, adding a rather large 157,000 words to the game, bringing its total current wordcount to 277,000-ish.

This chapter is quite branched, depending on the route you chose in the last game, as many of them will be from here forward. I hope you enjoy potentially-awkward family dynamics and a bit of downtime with the characters.

There's a possibility of a chapter addition between 28 and 30, but I've got so much outlined for the next phase of BOTL that I had to go in to AO3 and make chapter placeholders to help my brain visualize what the next few installments will look like.

My guess is that there will be another Interlude right between 27 and 28, but my hope is that I will be able to add it to Chapter 28 seamlessly rather than making a stand-alone chapter for more Slytherin Trio Backstory (the next interlude will be Theo's Third Year, Pt 2).

I'm loving the chapter titles I'm making up on the fly but uncertain about the use of punctuation in (Coven)ant. Just doesn't look as cool as I think it does in my head, I think 😅

Percy switching hair looks often throught the books to show 'the sea does not like to be restrained'.Baby dreads in tlt,wicks in ttc,twists ft.a faded from gray to white streak in tlo,afro in son due to amnesia preventing remembering perfered styles but muscle memoring back to dreads pre-climax,sea based material diy'd beads in moa and by nineteen,so much hair growing out time locs are needed and dying yellow, aqua,purple and pink streaks in them,white streak and black base still visible

Thalia suffering heat damage at a young age because Beryl was a racist ass white mom to her biracial kids.Her ressurectection also restored her hair's health in it's divinity and she spends her central book sporting bantu knots but in her next apperance in soh,she's upgraded to a frohawk and post-tlh,she updated it to include a sick ass electric blue dye job as sentimental symbolism for thunder and lightning being together once more,forevermore and apart never again

Nico introduced with an overgrown afro even Bianca didn't know how to take care of.He had to push it out of his eyes a lot but it became a helpful tool to hide away when the world fell off but Percy picked him back up on his feet during the botl-tlo interlude year they spent fixing things so they and eventually the rest of the Big Three Kids too started having wash days all together and it's makes him look like a very sweet cat.Eighteen year old Nico however chooses shoulder length dreads and a back of the head bun

Jason with natural dirty blonde textured hair.He often gets asked if it's his natural color and it goes from an understandable question to him to a button leaving him ever so slightly tweaking thanks to how overpressed it got.Juno wasn't going to let her champion walk around with janky haircuts so he had a flat top until time passed and he convinced a back from the dead Beckendorf to give him a lightning bolt fade as they chatted on how similar they are

Hazel following her heart whenever the opportunity for hair struck.Star-shaped afropuffs son era,cornrows moa protection that turned out for naught,hoh twists Percy made her impressively varied in shapes pink beads in celebration for her Tartarus survival(not really.they were crafted in terror she wouldn't make it out to cope and self-convince it wouldn't be her end.as it turned out,it was her second new beginnings or if you asked Hazel herself,her charming third chance)and butterfly locs entered her needs as soon as she found out about them and combined them as the final touch with purple dip tips

So this is my 6 year old, Lily.

For her birthday (which was several months ago, but I wasn't on tumblr much at that point, so I didn't share, but now I feel compelled to share her awesomeness) she asked for two things - a Nico di Angelo teddy and a stygian sword.

Of course, these are not things one can just buy off the shelf, so once again, a very nerdy, creative, and determined mama set to work.

Making him was... stressful and tiring but so worth it, despite that fact, this teddy has become the bane of my existence. He has to go EVERYWHERE with her. These pictures were taken on the way back from our trip to London to see the #PercyJacksonMusical. During which she made him give running commentary on what was funny, inaccuracies, and general opinions. If she can't find him at bedtime, the house bares a striking resemblance to the underworld riots. She has had him for 4 month and he already looks like the toy completed the fictional quests himself.

Then there is the sword.

My sibling and I started with a basic foam sword and turned it into the one in the video. Safe to say she was a very happy girl. The notches were placed purely cause it looked too boring without them, but my daughter came up with a theory on how they happened:

"He was fighting a monster and hit a rock. Then he thought it looked cool, so he did it again." - Lily, the six-year-old PJO fanatic.

For world book day, she insisted on going as Nico. When I said she couldn't take her sword, she pouted and put it down. Them immediately picked up her bow and arrow and said, "Fine, I'll go as Bianca." Once I explained it was no weapons at all, she switched back to Nico.

I would like to note that no one in her class knew who she was (cause what six year old would? Other than mine...) yet it did not discourage her and she even got up in front of the class and told them all about Nico and the monsters he fights and his boyfriend Will who can "sing and glow and heal like Rapunzel". Her teacher said she had them all hooked.

A week later, I had a Dad come up to me at collection and thank me for letting her go as Nico, cause now his son was wrapped in the show and they had started reading the books as his bedtime story. He had been trying to get his son more involved with reading, but he just didn't have any interest in the younger kids' books, apparently. As of 2 months later, (He is giving me updates in the playground every time they start a new book) they are now on BotL and his little boy has never been so enthusiastic about reading or bedtime before, and the dad has started to get a little invested in the series as well.

She has also come to me with very serious questions, such as: "If Nico is the son of Hades, can he eat the underworld food?" I always happily prod and poke at the questions, trying to help her form her own conclusion. Which for this particular one was "No. He was born in the human world. He just eats the pomegranate seeds. He takes happy meals with him before he goes down." And honestly, I can't fault that logic.

Lily also seems to have a death wish of some kind as she regularly yells at thunder clouds telling Zues to "Stop wingeing!"

For her birthday, as you can probably tell or even guess, she wanted everything PJO themed but heavy on the Nico part. This involved way too much blue food, like these birthday breakfast pancakes...

There was blue lemonade that sparkled with mica powder. There were blue sweets, and if it came in a packet, it was only allowed to be a blue packet. All the presents wrapped in blue or black paper and skeleton decorations littered the place like pop-up Halloween store.

And finally her cake.

The inside was blue, of course (I still don't think my toilet has recovered from the copious amount of blue dye). The decorations are all made of chocolate, either solid or modelling. After blowing out the candles, she politely asked if she could have the trident. I smiled and pulled it free, telling her to be careful because there was a wooden stick in the centre. Taking it, she promptly raised it in the air and yelled, "THE SEA DOESN'T LIKE TO BE RESTRAINED!" Then hid behind the sofa giggling as she ate it. I asked why she was hiding, and stated very plainly, "Poisidon will be mad if he knows I'm eating his trident, so I have to do it secretly."

There really is no point to this post other than to state how amazing this girl is and how proud I am to call her my daughter!

I suppose if you want a moral or something, it would be to just let them be who or what they want. The kids that are free from pressure are often the most amazing to witness grow.

Having the greeks using the actual spelling of greek names for things (ex: Hêphaistos, not Hephaestus)

Not doing the "Athênê cursed Medousa" narrative

No Perachel romantic tension in BoTL

On a similar note, Annabeth's dislike for Rachel being because of anti-mortal bias (and a little of abandonment issues) that she overcomes by the end of the book instead of being because of Percy and it never really getting adressed again

Bianca di Angelo actually just gets lost but is only found right before the battle of manhattan (she also abandons the hunters after the near-death experience with Talos. I have so many thoughts about this I'll need to write another post for this [posted it here])

BotL Music Master Post

A Few Things...

Firstly, I'm sorry for not posting anything regarding one shots or the next part for Bridge Over Troubled Lovers 🥺. Life kinda decided to shit in my face and I'm practically running around like a headless chicken between my two jobs, a project that turned my body into the equivalent of an 80 year old's (I'm just really sore, that's all lol), taking care of a family friend's two dogs, and family crap. It's been a rollercoaster ride that I'm, quite frankly, ready to jump off of 🙃

Also, to anyone who has asked about being on the taglist for the next part of BOTL, I promise I put you onto the taglist :) I don't usually respond to my own posts, cuz I'm weird and like to see the actual count of who reacted to my posts without me interacting with them. But I SWEAR that you're on the taglist, promise, I have them all written in my Google Keep and ready to go.

On that note, I am currently working on a Minho x F! Reader that has been in my drafts for a LONG time. I wanna get that out before the next part of BOTL, which I haven't even started working on yet because writers block is an actual bitch and when you pair it with ADHD it equals complete and total unmotivation until you can somehow get yourself to sit down and focus.

Once I actually have time to sit down and write, I'll get the Minho x Reader out, and then I'll get the BOTL out. Writing is usually something I do in free time, and it's something I do to relax; something I can't currently do.

So yeah, just thought I'd give you an update on what's going on behind the scenes, I can't give you a time estimate of when I can get things out, but once I can sit down and get them done, I will (I feel like I'm repeating myself, but you get the point lol).

ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATE (aka spoiler-tagging update)

we are very very close to a big big day for pjo!!!! you know what that means!!! updates on spoiler tagging!! (plus some non-pjo stuff at the end!)

from here on out:

i will tag all tv show content with 'pjotv'

once i've seen the first two episodes, i will begin tagging all references to anything that has not been in trailers with 'pjotv spoilers'. haven't decided yet how long i'll tag spoilers, but i'll definitely make an announcement before i stop.

once the first episode of the show is released, i'm thinking about tagging all pjo/hoo spoilers beyond however far the show has caught up to as 'pjo book spoilers' for people who are watching the show and haven't read the books (e.g. for posts discussing later books and whatnot). i do already and plan to continue tagging discussion of specific books with the acronym for the title (tlt, som, ttc, botl, tlo, tlh, son, moa, hoh, boo, cotg; plus pjo for the first series and hoo for the second series; toa if i ever post anything trials of apollo, but i've only read book one, so that's mostly moot), but some things are more general, like character arcs. would anyone who follows me be interested in a broader pjo book spoilers tag like this? if so, lmk--drop me a reply here, a dm, an anon ask, whatever :)

Blood of the Living - May Progress

Hello, everyone!

I made good progress on BotL's fifth chapter in May, adding another 50k words to it, for a total so far of 60,000. I have three more scenes to go before early access can start, so I'm estimating public release on that one will be sometime in early July. My estimated word count for it is somewhere between 90,000-100,000 words, so we'll see how that shakes out in the end.

Other than that, there's not a lot to say, really. It was a very steady, productive month, and I'm hoping June will be the same. I've got a big move coming in July, so the more I can accomplish before that eats most of my time for a while, the happier I'll be, I think. I'm still aiming to finish Chapters Six and Seven by the end of the year, and it feels like I'm reasonably on track towards that.
