What's with the Brony to Creepazoid pipeline popping up more and more?
You'd think a show about, you know, the friendship of magic would bring out the best. Like cringe all you want, I remember a lot earnestness when it came to fans of the show, fan creations, fan discussions and the like.
Well... it's not exactly exclusive to MLP fans or any fandom surrounding a show that would demonize the very evils we allow in fan spaces.
Often it comes down to how the lessons of friendship it teaches are largely good (some executed weirdly but that's usually down to perspective) but for older viewers, the cynicism of the real world is keen to browbeat us. Especially if we're dealing with a bad relationship, toxic family members or any kind of turmoil.
Basically it's treated less as lessons to take home with you and more escapism to a world where common decency is far more the norm. Like, "Oh, that's cute. If only real life worked that way..." Rather than, "Real life should world that way."
Honesty. Loyalty. Generosity. Kindness. Laughter? Sure would be nice if those were built to last but in the end, scum rises to the top. To be frank, it's scary when I watch some animation for kids or families and find that it teaches a lot of basic human decency we adults forget.
Is this what adulthood entails? To compromise your moral compass because, hey, everyone else is.
Fuck that.
We can be better even if the powers that be never will.

What do you think about Jenny Nicholson's video about brony fandom? I wouldn't say it's outright bad but the part about "dark side of brony fandom" that I've recently watched rubbed me the wrong way in some places, like how she said that guys were homophobic because they didn't want to be seen as gay because of watching a show about colorful ponies. One of the guys said something like "you can't catch the gay by watching the show", and she showed this bit as proof for homophobia, isn't THINKING that a show can make you gay alone is homophobic? Or how she talked about "sexualizing fictional children"? All that stuff. This part of the video I don't really like...
I'm not watching that shit for the sake of my blood pressure.
All I'm going to say is that I'd like to remind you that Bronydom was at its peak in the early new tens, right before LGBT acceptance became as Mainstream as it is now (for better *and* for worse).
So like gee I dunno maybe there's a fucking REASON so many of us were so defensive that we weren't gay or sissies for liking the show.
And that reason being that before a certain pink cunt started a harassment campaign whose aftershock still echoes today with the same Parasitic RadFem Rhetoric that's infected virtually all nerd spaces today, the big group who insisted that we were all secretly pedophiles and bad people for the horrible crime of liking a cartoon pony show were Meatheaded Frat Douches whose egos were threatened by our lack of discomfort liking a girl's cartoon.
Man I love it when Self-righteous Lefties accuse you of being a bigot over something that you yourself are victimized by, don't you? It's the best! I totally don't feel bitter by years upon years of hearing the same moralizing bullshit over from people who CLAIM to be on my side, no not at all!
I love how normalized it is for Leftwingers to look at the natural defensive response people have in the face of being bullied and declare that you're a bad person for not liking being disrespected and told that you're something you factually aren't over something so ultimately trivial! It's so wonderful how these fucking people fundamentally just do not understand how being human works and will happily side with people they claim to hate if it means they have an excuse to dunk on other people they don't like or don't bow to their whims! I love it!
I especially love how people are STILL wringing their hands over pony porn while they flick their bean to smut from every single thing else THEY enjoy and refuse to leave us the fuck alone~! And that people care more about cartoon horses who DON'T EXIST than actual people who they're harassing and doxxing and otherwise being a raging cunt to~! It's so much fun~!! Definitely doesn't make me fucking enraged at all~!!!

Demonisation of NSFW Fandom
youtube
youtube
I do understand that some people do find anything gory or sexual (in the case of sex repulsion, no shade just remember your sex repulsion is human rather than related in any way to morality) to be upsetting to them personally, and perhaps sticking with them viscerally for a while. Gore and sex can definitely be traumatic! Absolutely! However, the fact that SOME people feel that way about gore and sex does not mean that either of those things have any actual moral weight to them (when I say gore I mean depictions of it that do not involve an actual crime such as murder or cannibalism). Granted, I am speaking as someone who grew up seeing chicken carcasses dried on laundry wires and skinned cow skulls out on display at my local wet market, so I am absolutely more desensitised than the average sheltered city-dwelling westerner.
There's been a concerning wave of fans that demonise very standard fandom practices such as writing fanfiction, engaging in shipping, enjoying smut, drawing fanart of all kinds and exploring their sexuality through their fandoms. YOU may have not done that, but I know plenty of people who actually were helped by the NSFW aspects of fandom to explore their sexuality, kinks, and gender - parts of themselves that general society tend to try and censor, hide or shame unless they conform to conservative standards of purity. Heck! Even for those who end up discovering exactly what they DON'T like about the NSFW aspects of fandom they were exploring, it may help them realise those things in a way that means they feel less alienated in a society that (while shaming most of fandom and kink) also demonises people who are averse to or disinterested in sex!
I think what constitutes gore is more easily agreed upon (e.g. a nosebleed probably doesn't need to be censored but a disembowelment definitely should especially when not seen within the context of a horror community where it's more expected) than sex. For deluded bigots like Jester, she seemingly considers any allusion to fondness between women to be hypersexual and therefore needing to be stopped or censored. Or any allusion to the potential of intimacy being unacceptably "perverted". And anything going further, to be explicitly kinky, is seemingly automatically harmful according to people like her. It's such an extreme, warped view of the world that I'm utterly appalled by how common her views have become among younger and newer fans and tumblr users.
It dehumanises kink and sex into something inherently monstrous instead of the human experience that it is (and no, me saying that isn't somehow implying that asexuality or sex repulsion is inhuman as I've seen an embarrassingly large amount of people claim about topics like this - the humanity of one does not contradict or dismiss the humanity of the other ffs). The fact so many feel the need to crusade against these aspects of humanity and fandom goes to show how easy it is to dehumanise and thereby target anyone "deviant". And no, being sexual, or kinky and making fandom stuff related to those things does NOT make someone a predator or pedo, being a predator or pedo makes you a predator or pedo. They are not as proximate as so many assume, especially given how most predators and pedos are in fact avid promoters of conservatism, purity culture, religion, straight and "normal" communities. Yes, some kinksters are predators - frankly WE are far better at policing and ousting those people from our own communities than anyone else.
I would like to also clarify that this "wave of puritan fans" does not actually include that many ace people and the tumblr ace community as a whole get's way more shit thrown at it than they deserve. Y'all deserve better. My criticism of bigotry against kink and NSFW fandom practices / NSFW communities more broadly is not a criticism of people who simply wish to see less of it for personal reasons and don't personally enjoy that sort of thing. Fair enough, honestly. The language used in both can sometimes overlap which is why I think people jump to being defensive against what feels like a further attack, if an unintentional one. Still, I wish tumblr's filtering system worked better so NSFW communities can post what they want without any of it ending up being shown to people who really don't want to see it.
youtube
Sidenote: This is a pretty decent, nuanced look at one of the biggest fandoms to ever exist (the furry fandom) - that shares a lot of the same demonisation that the kink community faces. I think "This community contains predators" isn't sound on its own, because it can be said of literally EVERY community. A more relevant criticism is on how those people are handled. Is it like the Catholic Church and Hollywood, why systematically protects and covers up their crimes? Or is it like the gay and kink community, which is more quick to oust them from the community due to the very real threat of police and societal punishment for "harbouring" them that may occur if they don't? And morally puritan groups definitely still contain predators, they're just more closeted and once they're revealed then the remaining members tend to claim they were never truly part of their community anyway - lumping them into the "perverted" communities they are criticising instead even if that predator has never interacted with those communities personally. Anywho, this wasn't particularly structured, just needed to vent as I so often do!

i would seriously like to know what other weird kid tumblr fandoms the binary bfs were/are in, because these gay little superwholocks are just exploding with pop culture references in every single scene (mainly demetri)
but like what were they into other than stuff we’ve already been made aware of? what do they know about nightcore? do they fuck with vocaloid? did they engage in steven universe discourse? were they bronies? homestucks even? WERE THEY PHAN SHIPPERS? it’s all entirely plausible!!! ck takes place present day and they’re 18ish so they would have been in the TRENCHES in middle school!!! (i would know because i’m the same age and i’ve seen it firsthand) so many questions left unanswered…

thinkin about tumblr
it's been fascinating to watch tumblr culture develop over the years, where it was 99% fandom shit to begin with, and I feel like maybe the social justice side of tumblr started developing around the brony discourse era? not sure if that was the first, it's been a minute. but like it was technically a fandom thing, but it was about politics in fandoms, and with all these political posts circulating we started seeing entire blogs dedicated to politics in fandoms, leading to the absolutely foundational "your fave is problematic" era, which I think really set the tone for tumblr politics forever. single out a person, decide they're Bad, look through everything they've ever said and let confirmation bias guide you to something politically Bad or Close Enough To Bad For You To Assume It Is, then call it out and guilt trip anyone who doesn't circulate your very impassioned rant. maybe call them out too. and as with all communities, we start developing our own jargon as bloggers with academic backgrounds use important-sounding words that capture an Idea As Seen By Tumblr At A Specific Time, terms which eventually fall out of fashion and must be replaced by new terms and new ways of identifying things and people as Ontologically Bad. and in order to justify it, you gotta use the most superlative language possible, you have to draw a connection between the person and tumblr's current Worst Things Imaginable.
there can be no defense, no two-way discussion, no neutrality, the Bad Thing must be loudly denounced at every opportunity, whenever it comes up. if someone previously Good is suddenly called out as Bad, then they were always Bad to begin with, they were never truly Good. it was always obvious they were actually Bad, and you guys just didn't notice because you don't care how their Bad affects other people (guilt trip). distorted comparisons are made until every Bad thing becomes Maximally Bad, so that all Bad things are equivalent.
a whole community of politics built on this attitude that it is better to condemn the innocent than support the guilty. rage is a virtue and if you're just zealous enough you'll prove your status as a Good person. nuance is just a silencing tactic, not a safety mechanism. everything is obvious and everyone Good agrees with me. and on top of that somebody is gonna try to make it about fandoms again.

What fandoms do you think the She-Ra characters would be in (in some sort of moder au)? And in general, how involved are they in fan communities and discourse?
For some reason I feel like Mermista's the one who's into like, internet and fandom history. Learns about decades-old drama for fandoms she's barely even in, has read My Immortal, stuff like that.
Ooooh. Let's see...
Adora is into Supergirl, because Kara is so strong and heroic and pretty and beautiful and should kiss the cool, slightly amoral girl on the mouth. Her first fandom was My Little Pony because of Horse. She is also into the OG She-Ra, and still holds the scene where show-Adora transforms the sword of protection into a shield to protect her butt during atmospheric re-entry as peak television. She posts a lot of well thougthout theories, but is very worried about Being A Fan Wrong (tm), which sadly make her vulnerable to fan drama. Bow often have to comfort her when callout posts make their rounds.
Catra is into Thundercats and write novel length epics that she never publishes about her catsona self insert that takes no shit and gets together with the strong hero and the bratty princess. She mostly posts memes, but keep careful track of all the rest of the fandom participants. Has multiple accounts that she occasionally use to stir up drama or troll Glimmer.
Glimmer is a big fan of cyberpunk anime and happily jumps between shows when a new blorbo catch her interest. She writes fics and posts memes and hosts fandom event and gleefully jumps into whatever fandrama goes on today. Prone to fandom burnout, and regularly leaves in a huff and sulks for a few weeks until the next show catches her eyes.
Bow is a hardcore Brony, but happily participates in any fandom for idealistic cartoons. He is a delight to have in your fandom. He leaves comments and happy little emoijs on everything people post, and always have a nice word for everyone.
I really love your take on Mermista. She has encyclopedic knowledge of all the big fandoms, and sees herself more as a fandom antrophologist than a participant. She also has a few mystery show from the eighties she follows religiously.
Perfuma gravitate to cute little slice of life anime with the bitchiest fandoms imaginable. She gleefully fights shipping wars and write essays about why the characters she doesn't like (and their fans) are deeply problematic.
Scorpia watches Spop and lies up at night crying over her fandom crush Catra. She is too shy to participate much in fandom, but she reads a lot of and sometimes dare to leave a bashful little "it's very good" comment at a fic she has read ten times.

Tbh, when it comes to loli discourse or whatever cishet men interest. I hate this discourse, cause I know once one of those "cishet men" ended up coming out as a transwoman, suddenly it is no longer problematic or "closet key". "it's just fictionals, do not think transwomen are evil sexual harrasser!"
at the same time, the same people will goes "I am glad I am the brony who turned out to be a woman! So I am no longer problematic, I am still justifying bullying bronies!" or "Male gaze bad! but I am a woman who likes moe stuff and shouldn't be harrassed!"
Though, this isn't about "actually transwomen are problematic cause uh they used to have cishet interest!". It's just kinda weird how this site just go, unless you are a woman or secretly is a woman, you must be evil!
And ngl, I don't think I would like people who made fun of "cishet men" interests, until suddenly "the cishet man" is a lesbian woman all along, suddenly you guys are buddy buddy with them. Though, I am not even surprised if the anons who keep arguing with this are one of those "crypto-TERFs" who pretend to be "trans-friendly" which seems common nowadays
--
I had a past boyfriend turn out to be into het rape porn. He was fine. The key was that I found this out by accident and he had to be prodded to tell me rather than being one of those dudes who wants to tell random bystanders about his kinks.
A lot of people go "I'm one of the good ones!" without learning any fundamental lessons about how your fantasies don't predict behavior.

There’s this video titled “The SINS of the Bronies.” where one of the quoted things Raymundo said was "To me it seems like whenever there are grown men in a fandom, they can't just seem to be able to like female characters, it has to be sexual in some sort of way.” I pretty much took it as a cue to not waste my time with this video, but here it is in full:
https://youtu.be/aNl4es8_Lvs?si=4ZmMKmAsjmD1VLDP
He also made a video a month before this one titled “Bronies TRAUMATIZED a Generation,” sadly people still view the community as a whole and not as individuals. One of the video mentioned in both was the PONY.MOV series made by hotdiggetydemon, who isn’t even a brony, iirc??
I’ve only seen his video about the return of Elsagate and to me he seemed kind of pearl-clutchy when it comes to this, especially the part where he talks about “ZONE Ankha” near the beginning of the aforementioned Elsagate video. ZONE can’t control if other people made their animation so widespread that children could stumble upon it, they can’t be everywhere at once. I just wish people wouldn’t blow things out of proportion in general, a lot of discourse wouldn’t exist nowadays.
I'm gonna go ahead and assume this Raymundo guy is gonna get busted for grooming minors or some shit within a year based upon the pattern that happens when some dipshit Moralizer starts complaining about "Men in Fandoms unable to think without their dick" or some horseshit.
I'm not clicking whatever bullshit that is because I need to start taking measures to lower my blood pressure, I'm just goddamn sick of this shit still going after a fucking decade of no learning the lesson of "stop listening to obvious grifters denouncing you for doing the things literally every other fucking fandom does."

Making my own post and not linking OP because, genuinely I don't want them to get harassment for this
It's to the person who made this post
Tumblr media
Full disclosure, for the UMPEENTH time: I don't give a rats ass about what Lily thinks about fictional characters. I used to. Then I met/knew/still know genuinely nice and critical people who hold the opinions Lily has but aren't Lily. I have friends who hate Steven Universe for justifiable reasons, same with SPOP. I personally dislike a lot of Friendship is Magic decisions and so do my mutuals like me. That's not the problem. Perhaps the reason people know OF Lily Orchard is through her -bad- media analysis, but it's not why people come away hating her, and it's DEFINITELY not the reason people are listening to the testimony of her victims and being rightfully horrified.
People talked of and about Lily Orchard for the same reason sane people clown on Mr. Enter; she's toxic and abusive. She's a bully and her 'idgaf' attitude is bad for fandoming and for critical culture. There's 'problematic' like critikal or breadtubers and then there is "lol fuck the haters who all want to r@pe me anyway, they're all n*zis anyway including the bipoc folks who I'm sure aren't real bipoc anyway. Now I'm going to police how other people take back slurs and how 'queer' is inherently offensive. I'm the REAL VOICE OF JUSTICE."
I called Lily the worst of "anti" fandom rhetoric because I mean it. She is a 'social-justice warrior' in the meanest ugliest sense of that word -ugly enough that basically everyone who's been called that by actual chuds will describe her as one. She talks over other people doing social justice, polices how other people use it, and only really cares about how it affects her. Frequently when people leave her fandom it's because Lily and her crew very cruelly shooed them away for not fitting Lily's exact interests and opinions 100%. Frankly I kind of hate that her attitude is labeled as 'radical' or 'anarchonistic' because she's 'unapologetic'. No. Real anarchists are people like decolonizetheleft or heritageposts --those two are both very blunt and quick to bite back if you throw them bullshit, but they also are not vitriolic and know that people are complex even when they post stuff other people wouldn't. Lily's not even a good call-out machine. She's nothing on HBomberGuy or D'Angelo Wallace or Shanespear. I'm still mad at her, not for SU, but how she responded to other critics of SU who told her not to joke about Rebecca Sugar being a fascist. She told them, some of them Jewish people, that they're just butthurt at her ripping and not her trying to talk over other people. I'm still mad at her for siding with a n*zi until she realized that looked bad for her and her cruelty towards other lgbtq people over how they use the word "queer".
She's been doing this for YEARS. She dropped in on old brony discourse this exact same way and it fucking sucked because, you know, people in fandom or the show itself DID do shitty things. We needed genuine help weeding out the bad actors around us; it sucked that one of said bad actors was trying to speak for us. Now imagine this but amplified to a woman with some native heritage trying to talk down how other people see and talk about THEIR cultures. It's always been a massive headache.
Britt has also been around for years though and so has all the evidence and trails left of Stockholm before Lily decided to redact it completely. Lily absolutely wrote that. She absolutely wrote cp. I was there for back when she still proudly referenced it.
"Why don't you move on and stop obsessing?"
Believe me I'd LIKE to. It's that extra element of worrying behavior that goes beyond annoyance with a youtuber like Lindsay Ellis or Quinton Reviews that has kept me always watching from the sidelines. If I be an "anti" (frankly, every proshipper I've ever met who's seen the receipts from Stockholm has the same take as me, so idk) for having 0 tolerance fictional material of children than it would be hypocritical not to hold 'one of my own' up to those standards especially when she DOESN'T own up to writing it when I know for a fact she did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fuck lousy chudheads and Vaushsluts and general KFcreeps who think any of this is funny and 'just lolcow behavior' and misgender Lily while they do it. Fuck transphobes.
Transphobes, chuds and ''stalkers'' are not the people ILoveKimPossibleALot brought into her video. Op, I genuinely hope you get away from Lily's influence. You deserve better. For now though I'm putting you and anyone else who unironically stans Lily on block. I am done hearing anymore excuses for this woman's character. I can't hear that anymore than I can't hear actual bigots use Lily to besmerch others -other trans folks, other liberals, other disabled people like me. I'm done.

discourse
vivid flashback of people mocking transmisogyny when it was first being promoted as a theory with "bronymisogyny" as a made-up oppression faced by bronies. given what we know about the demographics of the MLP fandom it felt like giving the game away (and tbh felt like that even in 2012-3 or so when I saw it). Time is a flat circle I guess
