Happy belated Ace Day of Visibility! I should've posted something yesterday but I kept trying to wait until the boys got their paint before I posted anything with them in it. Unfortunately, the 2014 tumblr asexuality discourse has found its way to Twitter (in large part thanks to a certain disgraced author) and I had to turn my chair and make this real shitty overlay from a panel Monarch drew 90 years ago because she's too swamped for me to request a dedicated piece of her son. So, have her boy you haven't met yet (his name is Meter, he is lovely, and he is aroace) and a boy you have (Course is probably most like me of my sons, and therefore has inherited the asexuality umbrella). Bonus Myth in the background (not ace, but very supportive 😌).

Favourite Fleet & Clara quotes from High Vaultage 

(Page numbers from my Goldsboro special edition, I'm not sure how they line up with page numbers in other versions. Spoilers for all of High Vaultage.)

p27: Clara had met Fleet only weeks before. She had just arrived in London and started work as a crime reporter, and pursued a murder case alongside Fleet despite his repeated objections, until he eventually conceded - as Clara had known he would - that they were making a good team, and furthermore proposed - as she hadn't a clue he would - that they go into business together.

p51: "There you are, Fleet. Where have you been?" / Fleet paused, made some confused looks between Clara and the room he had just left, and finally pointed at the door. "Isn't this the waiting room for detectives whose partners have run off? They were quite a few of us in there. Quite a lot in common." / Clara suppressed a grin into something more disapproving. "You're not as funny as you think you are, Inspector." (More below the cut.)

A lot of them have serious physical disabilities! It's enough that it poses a logistical problem, which they are committed to overcoming together.

Thunder Storm's three legs makes him slower than his companions. He's ferociously powerful, but like a male lion, he has to rely on his "lionesses" to slow a large animal.

Bright Storm has asthma from her heroics trying to save SkyClan cats from a fire. She's taking that from Gray Wing, who is famously the first major death now. Like her son, she has a difficult time with chasing prey.

Bumble is dyspraxic. She's a terrible hunter and fighter and struggles with self-worth because OTHERS used it to dehumanize her, and continues to, even after an entire society forms out of love of her.

Sunlit Frost has permanent nerve damage in his arm from the fire, and ends up working so hard that it makes his disability worse. A bite on the good paw from Snake becomes infected after he refuses to sit out from digging graves after the First Battle; I am planning a chunky B-plot about Sunlit coming to terms with the fact he has to retire early.

That's FOUR major members of a small group with physical disabilities that make hunting hard or impossible. They have a lot of logistical problems that I will actually be exploring solutions to.

Ok brainstorm. Tank and Ripp are kindergarten aged. Buzz and Lyla are fighting, not for the first time. Lyla goes to "visit her parents" for a few days, turned a few weeks, and during this time Buzz gets abducted. Lyla eventually comes back, and notices that something's off about her husband, but just figures he's feeling sheepish/apologetic for how he acted towards her, and it's wounded his pride, so he's being weird.

Buzz, meanwhile, is having the worst time of his life & has no idea what's going on with his mind or body. He thinks he's finally snapped and has just lost his mind completely. He starts becoming hostile towards the neighbors, even more of a workaholic, and suddenly obsessed with making sure their sons can "defend themselves." Lyla is completely skeeved out at this point and is like ok buddy I think you need to go "visit your parents" for a little while.

So Buzz is temporary kicked from the house and he finds himself going down a rabbithole researching alien activity and reports of abductions. ENTER: Glarn Curious. Buzz finds out about this guy who was supposedly abducted like a decade ago and, luckily enough for him, still lives in Strangetown. He tracks down an address and shows up uninvited at Glarn's house and is like you have GOT to help me because I feel like I'm going completely insane here and you might be the only person who can understand. And Glarn feels for him, because he was in this position once, and there was nobody around to help him.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at here is that Glarn Curious performs an alien mpreg abortion on Buzz Grunt sometime between 1993-1995. And this whole... experience is why Buzz is so hostile towards Mr. Retired-Pollination-Technician Smith specifically
