what is the last place you went where you didn't recognize any of the food and did you like what you ate?
i went with my dad to an albanian restaurant the other week and he ordered for the table (the menu was primarily in albanian) and there was this sausage thing in this weird cheesy sauce with the texture of hummus and i loved it i ate so much i hurt myself
i love having other people order for me. i will eat almost anything barring a few very specific foods (actually i think it might just be avocado) so i love just being like oh get me something. i love not having to make decisions

Hello I am here. What is ur fav Serbian food and what do u recommend I try? I've never had any before and I'm so curious
ps get better soon <333
omg great question and thank you for wishing me well <33
(a lot of our food has like turkish influence since serbia was under the ottoman empire for a while so nobody come at me and tell me these aren't ours. okay) all of these are highly recommended by me, a professional fatass yet somehow picky eater?
- i LOVE sarma. it's like cooked rice, meat and sometimes carrot idk (all shredded and mixed together) in cabbage leaves (like sauerkraut?) and it's aaaamazing. probably my fav like Super Serbian Food! it's suuuper savory but like simple and im picky so there's that
- čvarci. no idea what to call this one but man. yum. sounds nasty when i tell you it's just like animal fat but trustttt. there are ones that basically just look like tobacco lmao and it's just this salty goodness. recommend looking them up
- burek! bosnians might fight me for this one but im like part bosnian and this was all one country back when my parents were young so. anyway burek is incredible. it's like this fatty kind of pie(?) with crunchy crust and it's filled with either meat or white cheese. i prefer the cheese. it's amazing but like super filling i can't eat much
- karađorđeva šnicla. man I haven't hand this in years im shaking. it's some kind of breaded cotlet dish with creamy kajmak (like a dairy delicacy which is also bomb) filling. if you haven't tried this you haven't lived
- i guess ćevapi are more bosnian but whateverrrr. kinda like a sausage? this one is more known. big recommendation!
- proja is like corn bread but very dense and hard and crunchy on the outside. can't live without this one

Lola! On your travels, what place completely won your heart, and why? And is there anywhere you would never want to go back to again? Also, off topic, what is your favourite perfume at the moment and what are you wearing right now?
hi cig! apologies again for the very late response. these were great questions!
Place the won my heart
i think one place that i was not expecting to love as much as i did was sarajevo, bosnia and herzegovina. it's an incredible, small city, with SO much history (some of it extremely sad), and i love how much character it has. i love sitting out in the early morning sun with bosnian coffee (really strong! perfect for me), wandering around the markets and exploring the easily-walkable city, taking in the blend of culture and religious diversity (in one spot there's a cathedral, orthodox church, mosque and synagogue in about a kilometre of each other).
i think a lot of people travel there to see the site of the infamous 1914 assassination of franz ferdinand (which played a key role in kicking off WW1), but the thing that struck me the most is that so many people my age or older in that city have lived experience of war and violence and are incredibly resilient. i've done a couple of really informative walking tours provided by local guides who explain so much about the war in the 90s and the effect it had on sarajevo specifically (including a 4 year siege), and i'd really recommend them to anyone who visits.
there's also cool and unique aspects to the city - the abandoned bobsled track is creepy and great, the yellow fortress is amazing too, especially at sunset.
it's also really affordable, and the food is GREAT (even for someone who doesn't eat meat). There's a lot of specialty breads, bureks, cevapi (if you eat meat), stuffed vegetables etc. and the turkish delight (i can't remember the bosnian name) is insanely good.
it's such a hidden gem!
Place I don't want to go back to
don't hurt me - probably venice. I've been to venice a couple of times, and i don't think i'll go again. it's really expensive and i just didn't vibe with it!
also, uyuni, bolivia. not because it's a bad place (it's a great place to get to the salar from!) but because i got so ridiculously sick there and i think it would be traumatic lol.
Perfume
I am currently cycling through charlotte tilbury's love frequency, kayali's sweet diamond pink pepper and malin + goetz's dark rum. i wouldn't recommend them to anyone unless they REALLY like sweet scents. i'm a sugary person, i'm afraid. love that sweet sweet smell 😂
thanks again for the asks! picture of sarajevo for your viewing pleasure:

#i keep saying. whether jts a burger or not depends on the type of bread its sandwiched by#pulled pork BURGER. chicken burger. burger burger#if its normal sandwich breas then whatevers in it is a sandwich#but if its a rounded top its a burger. idc yall are more annyoing than bosnians about what is allowed to be called a burek#ill call a sirnica a cheese burek if i want. fuck with me @stupidusernamepolicy
asking genuinely, if you go to a restaurant and order the 4th thing on this post would the menu call it a pulled pork burger or a pulled pork sandwich?
I have a hypothesis about the "burger"-"chicken sandwich" discourse. I want to see something.

Calgary's Best Balkan Bakery: Erina
Erina Bakery owners Melihate (l) and Milahim I’ve driven past Erina Bakery countless times without noticing its presence, next to a bottle depot on busy 37 Street in southwest Calgary. I finally pushed open its colourful doors and discovered a world of Balkan baking I didn’t know existed. How about you? Have you heard of pitalka, Nordic rye or Albanian breads? Didn’t think so. Or burek, a…

Day 13 - 18 September - Bar > Podgorica
We checked out and got a taxi to Bar station, and then took the train to Podgorica. We were staying in a flat that is very like our flat in London which was nice, it felt very familiar. We then went to lunch in the most highly rated place around, it was quite meat heavy and we ordered too much! We finished it all but it was tough and we had to go to the flat for a lie down after. We went for a quick walk around the old town but it seemed mostly residential so we went back to the downtown area. We have both been nursing colds and I went into a boots type shop for tissues. It was quite glam and had many different types of shampoo etc., including a whole shelf of Korean beauty products (we go a couple of face masks) but when I asked if they sold tissues there was a very definitive ‘no not here!’ I had had to take out the loo roll that was in my pocket that I had been using up to that point as a translation!
Tumblr media
At the flat we read for a bit I bought Her Side of the Story by Alba de Céspedes which seems like a real precursor to Elena Ferrante, I was hooked reading the sample on the train!
We then went to the post office and for a drink in this bar below a bridge (didn’t see any trolls since they seemed to have moved all their work online). We then went to one of the only restaurants in the old town for dinner, we only wanted something like but the salads we ordered were quite heavy. We went to the shop and bought some stuff for our long bus journey in the morning and went home.
We watched Mona Lisa smile on Netflix which was great, then went to bed, not the comfyist bed we have slept on and the pillow was very big and uncomfortable.
Where we ate - Pod valet, Lantern restaurant
What we liked - Pod valet was good but we had too much, Lantern was a lovely setting, I think our salads weren’t great but maybe we ordered wrong.
Day 14 - 19 September - Podgorica > Pristina
We work up early and went for a run which was really good particularly because we were about to spend all day on the bus. We packed, made our lunch and checked out. I bought a potato burek for breakfast and then got the 9am bus. This was the second international mini bus we have taken, and we both got single window seats on one side of the bus.
We got to the Albanian border quickly and got through pretty easily, no problems. The problems started like 25 mins later when the driver abruptly stopped and said that we needed to change bus. He didn’t really tell us when the new bus was coming, and spent most of the next 30 mins shouting on the phone. Eventually a big bus stopped and we all got on (including the driver, who started immediately being the assistant on this bus). The bus journey from then on was uneventful if a bit long, there was amazing scenery as usual and a stop at a very glam Albanian services.
We got to Pristina and walked into town from the bus. I think walking with the bag is the most weights training I have ever done! We checked into the flat and then went out for dinner. We had a lovely meal of salad, grilled veg, zucchini and cheese, and bread, which we needed after yesterday’s excess. With a big bottle of fizzy water it cost us 14 euro which was very good value! We are now just chilling in the flat and resting after a few days of travelling and moving.
Where we ate - Liburnia
What we liked - Liburnia was really nice but based on what you will find out in the next entry it is slightly taken the gloss off
Day 15 - 20 September - Pristina
Woke up to the terrible news that Nin was feeling really ill and couldn’t get out of bed. We had planned to do a 10am walking tour but that was missed. I went to get some medicine for heartburn from a chemist, which Nin said was absolutely disgusting (it was anise flavour).
She was feeling too ill o go out so I bravely ventured out without my rock. I got a burek from what seemed to be the highest rated place in Pristina, it was definitely not as nice as the place in Sarajevo but was pretty delish (i think its pretty hard to fuck burek up). I then went to an exhibition in a library that had multiple stories from the Kosovo war, all from a single day in May 1999. It was like some of the Sarajevo exhibitions, and no less grim and harrowing. It really is incredible the things that happened in Yugoslavia in the 90s, when you hear that there are tensions currently it is really easy to see why. What happened in Kosovo I would be able to remember had I been born there, and the scale of the violence is staggering. It takes serious courage to forgive in those situations. The poem ceasefire by Michael Longley (who i actually saw reading the poem a few weeks ago before I left) comes to mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that I had a mental coffee, with whipped cream (id ordered a cappuccino) and went back to see Nina who was still feeling really ill, I brought her some plain bread from a bakery and hung out for a bit and then went to get some lunch, I listened to a few podcasts and had some pasta and a coffee. I then went to a few of the main mosques in the town which I had wanted to go to (they were busy in the morning with Friday prayers, but empty when I went) and also to the a museum of an old Turkish 18th century house which was short but very lovely, and i walked through the old market. I then went to catch the 4pm walking tour but the guy never appeared so I bought some stuff for Nina to have for dinner (soup and rice as per her request) and went back to the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our washer/dryer had made our clothes very wrinkled so I did some very basic ironing, and made the soup and rice for Nina who by this point had diagnosed herself with food poisoning. After that I went out to this falafel place and had a ‘zesty wrap’. I wanted to have some Kosovar wine and went to a wine bar, but i decided not to go in as it was empty and I didn’t feel like going in alone, so went home and we went to bed really early (Nina was already in bed).
This was the most time I had spent way from Nina since we have left, in some ways it was nice to have a bit of time to myself, but it mainly just illustrated how much I like spending time with Nin and I was sad she was ill. It is a good thing that it happened in one of the places where there wasn’t loads to do. (She’s better now).
Where I ate - Furra Lumi, Bon Bouquet cafe and lounge, Baba Ganoush Meze
What I liked - Baba Ganoush was delish, the others were good too but the highlight was defo dinner

"I can't be having a tickle attack when I'm at my most defenseless. That would be highly unacceptable," he chuckled quietly around his mouthful of burek.
Looking up at the words, he smiled further, nodding. "Well then, a morning coffee for you. You can still have tea with me in the afternoons, of course. It's not as though you're limited to one or the other."
Taking a moment to spread some marmalade on a warm slice of bread, he watched James thoughtfully at that. "Is it something you'd still like to watch? We have time today." He wasn't certain if it would be easier for James to come to realizations or remembrances on his own, or if it was better for him to tell him. The night before made it seem as though his stepping in had made things much worse, and he was cautious about how to approach some of the subjects.
⭐ Brushing and tending to the Asset's hair to soothe him after coming back from being away longer than planned.
Send in ⭐ to touch my muse’s hair.
Asset was okay with being alone for a few days, but Zemo had been away for two weeks, during the time his mind had gone wild with possible scenarios. Did Zemo abandon him? Was he sent out in a mission? Or was Zemo killed by HYDRA and were they coming for him next? He’d been on edge after day four with no word from Zemo.
Asset had taken to curling up either in the shooting range or in Zemo’s bedroom as he waited for any sign of return. He was curled up beside Zemo’s bed, his metal arm tucked under his head as he napped.
Asset had felt fingers in his knotted hair and his hand snapped out in reflex, grabbing at the man’s wrist before his eyes opened and he spotted Zemo and fear crossed his expression. “Sir.” His voice softened, letting go of Zemo’s wrist. “You’re back.”

4. favourite dish specific for your country? (all three countries)
And
7. three words from your native language that you like the most? (Croatian)
I hope you're having a good day.
Ooohhh! For 4; Australia: Pavlova. Not a real dish, per say, but still. If not that then Fairy Bread. Croatia: Knedle, or Plum Dumplings (this is the God tier of all three imo) Serbia: Burek. The best. So great. Love it
7. My favourite Croatian word is honestly just the Good Ol Fuck you; Jebi Sebe OR! When something goes wrong; Idi se u materinu (Go to the womb)
I don't really have top three words? Kinda like how I don't have top three words in English.

--prompt from @flashfictionfridayofficial
The soldiers bantered across their camp, with a scent of equal parts pine and flesh. They unwrapped their meager rations and took in the dough as if it was enough to keep them until the next battle. After lighting a fire with the mass amount of undergrowth underneath, they warmed themselves up and took out a few vials.
Enes, on the other hand, hesitated as he ate a few crumbs of his bread, and then sought out for a bottle. Contrast to the spare burek he would have back home, along with the rock-hard loaves he'd struggle for on the ship, this was particularly fluffy, as if it were charmed with a rough pair of hands, but a warm heart to sweeten it. After tearing at a few more pieces, he barely missed the campfire before lunging out on the flask. Along with it, he suddenly met with Mehmet's hand.
"From those above, Enes!" Mehmet laughed, handing the rectangular bottle to him before dusting himself off. "Are you that desperate for a drink, my friend?"
Swishing the contents inside, Enes grimaced on the little liquid it has left. There's enough to keep him content for the night, but not enough to keep him from wandering out to the forest and puncturing the trees for the hopes of anymore. Opening it up, he took in a couple of drops to get a sense of the flavor--a fiery aftertaste accompanied the mellow, almost caramel taste to it. He smiled.
But only then did the throbbing return to his head; he sauntered away from the camp in a wobbly haze. Navigating through the trees, colored with a cobalt glow because of the night, he collapsed against the bark and heard a voice in his head.
"There is no rest for the wicked! No rest for those who want to torment you; why must you let them?"
Enes crawled in a ball, prostrating to the night in a muddled frenzy. He grasped onto the broken branches like they could save his life, but they only relished in his agony. His heart rate accelerated, and he could barely contain a scream from exploding and alerting his comrades to a false alarm.
A pair of ghostly hands went through his hair, rustling across his forehead in a gentle motion. Despite it, his flesh went cold, his body rendered moot as he acted like a deer, hoping he would not get hunted. The sensation ran through his chest and arms, he wavered as the flask emptied from his hand.
"I gave you this chance to fight for something special, but it requires your obedience. You volunteered for this opportunity, but you must commit yourself to it. Do not be a bird."
Enes froze, but the cold indifference melted away. He was still on his knees, but his spine was erect; his gaze focused on the darkness in front of him. He blinked a few times to assure that the figure remained in front of him; all he could make out was a halo.
"Your freedom can lead you to terrible things; an arrow cannot go too many ways. Stay your course, and you'll find redemption once again."
When Enes reached out for the figure, she disappeared, and he fell back in a mix of ecstasy and shock.

11. 2. 2021 - Fit Journal
Today is New Moon in Aquarius, so manifest that dream body, you want and work towards it!
Not gonna lie. I wasn’t really good today, since I ate around 1600- 1700 calories today and my calorie deficit is 1800, which still means that I didn’t go over or anything but I did eat a bit healthy and unhealthy at the same time. I’ll explain.
I woke up today at 3.50 am for work. I drank a glass of warm water for my metabolism and I ate two pieces of spent bread with sardine pate. I drank a smaller cup of coffee because the bigger one gives me a lot of anxiety but the small cup made me want to fall asleep at work. So... medium next time? At work I ate for lunch three biscuits and Scandinavian Skyr yoghurt with roasted apples flavor, I believe. I hated work today because it was just the worst but I came home and ate a traditional balkan dish, burek, which is why my calorie intake is so large. It’s really good and I cannot avoid it. Also, I ate one Mozartkugeln because I adore them. I drank cappuccino with coconut and white chocolate flavor and it was delicious. After that I contemplated whether I should do my workout or not. I did do it and my butt seems to numb itself from it. I didn’t know that your butt is consisted of so many muscles. I swear to God, I was doing situp abductions and I didn’t get them until I realised I have to squeeze my glutes and I was like. “OOOOOOOOOOOH....” and then it started to burn and I was like “holymotherfuckerwhooo!”. I did 25 minute of booty workout and 10 minute abs workout. I was so lazy but I did it and now I’m drinking water. I drank at least 1.60 L and I’ll probably drink 40dcl as well before bed or not. It doesn’t really matter.
One thing though. I will never restrict myself from the food that I love such as burek and Mozartkugeln.

🌿 Favourite comfort food Oooooh uh. I mean I eat a lot of Reese’s minis but actual comfort food is probably anything my mom makes, but especially variations of Burek?
🌼 Favourite alcohol (or hot drink!) Alcohol: I don’t really drink, lmao. Recently I’ve been on a hot tea kick (English Breakfast), but I like Starbucks Soy White Mocha. A lot.
🌷 Favourite relaxing activity Watching reality TV (Project Runway, ANTM, Wife Swap, Queer Eye, Toddlers and Tiaras, GBBO, Say Yes to the Dress...), playing a mobile game (I’m really into June’s Journey right now), or brainstorming fic.
🌸 Favourite fluffy/feel-good fic Hmmmmm let’s go with  Storytime: Voltron is (Basically) a Disaster by @caffeinatedflumadiddle
🌻 Favourite calming scent Baking bread
🌺 Favourite relaxing (or uplifting) song OH BOY Uhhhhhhhh let’s go with “Honey, I’m good” by Andy Grammer, “Very Nice People” by DJ Mibor, and “Have it All” by Jason Mraz
🌵 Favourite white noise Like many people, I do love the sound of rain, but I’m not opposed to New York traffic (lived for years on the border of Upper East Side and Spanish Harlem, so it’s a thing).
🍄 Favourite book to get lost in Damn, it’s been a while... mostly I just reread fic these days, but honestly I feel like I reread Uglies, Twilight, and the Septimus Heap books every few years. (That said, I hunted down the Chanters of Tremaris trilogy recently because it’s so full of nostalgia for me.)
💐 Favourite chill-out TV show I mentioned the reality TV earlier, right? It’s so much more relaxing than TV shows with plots. With plots, I get STRUCK BY INSPIRATION for fanfic, but with reality TV I get... some ideas for an AU for fandoms I’m already in, instead of actual new fandoms, so that’s actually a massive relief.
🌹 The best advice you’ve ever had This is really niche and probably only applies to ND people but: The things you find cool and funny on a screen don’t work that way in real life; something you’d want to see a character saying, something that you’d laugh at and that the other characters would be impressed by? It’s only going to get other people pissed at you. Always think about how you’d react if the jerk in the office said that, not the character you love.
I tag: @brawltogethernow @firebirdeternal @probablybadrpgideas @sergeant-angels-trashcan @trickerydickerydock @spazzcat
