Someone on Etsy has a cute Doctor Who block afghan pattern with all the Doctors done in a Minecraftlike style. I bought the pattern, looked at it a bit, and decided that I wanted Red Dwarf blocks instead. As such an animal isn’t available, and because I don’t have enough to do (HA), I’m designing the blocks myself. It’s very old-school - graph paper, a ruler, and colored pencils.
The first afghan I’m doing is a Rimmer afghan, because I’m hopelessly in love with that neurotic hottie of a hologram. It’ll have eleven different Rimmer outfits, and Mr. Flibble. Nine blocks are drawn, with three to go. I wanted to see how the graphs would translate, so I crocheted my Ace block, and I’m ridiculously delighted with how well he turned out. What a guy!

i’d love to do a c2c of that odyssey graph… it’d take forever, but i’d love to
The Book Cover
So I'm not sure when I'll actually START the blanket cuz right now I am very much in the design and planning stage as it's huge and everything needs to line up.
I'll start with breaking the parts down to pieces, the center most piece is pixel art I made by using a book cover I found online (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-odyssey-homer/1123741766) which I liked the look of. Then I tried using softwares to pixelate it and it . . . Didn't go well. So I drew it myself. It took 4 days. It was horrible. But now it's done and I'm never doing a pixel art that big ever again.
Anyway, here's the pixel art of that.
To turn this into a blanket piece, I'm gonna be using tunisian crochet purl stitches to create a giant (183x282) piece of fabric that I can then cross stitch the pattern onto. I've done this before to make another blanket for my friend:



The swatch I made of the yarn I'm using (plymouth worsted merino superwash) is 20x20 stitches to 4x4 inches (which is my gauge for the whole project.
Here's the swatch blocked (6×6 inches) made with an F/3.75mm hook.

Pattern credit. I added an additional column of diamonds and extra blank space at the top so my blanket is a bit bigger than the pattern at 4’ x 5’.

This took me about six and half seasons of DS9 to make but it’s finally done! The only downside is that now I need to figure out something to work on during the last half of season seven.

This week we move onto another favorite song, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.” Mary Poppins looks on as the Banks family gather in song and leave their home to fly their kite that Mr. Banks has repaired. That repair job on the kite is symbolic of the relationship between father and children that Mary Poppins has helped to repair in her time as their nanny.
