I'm in Madrid with two friends who are going to KPOP LUX tomorrow and they're trying to figure out their camp situation for the day outside the stadium :
what they're going to bring, how long the battery of which electronics are going to last, how they're going to alternate who stays in the queue and who goes back to their hotel room for food/shower, who takes which room cards knowing that things can charge only if one room card stays in the electricity plug at the hotel, how do they make sure there's one card they can give me when I go visit them before the doors open so they can give me all their stuff and they can enjoy the concert without all the equipment...
My contribution is comparing this to the cabbage goat wolf problem. Which they apparently don't know ?? So I must keep interrupting their serious discussion to explain.
I've peaked as a friend.

talking an acquaintance's ear off about your ttrpg sessions point blank very early in your friendship is usually a faux pas, one of those things like your dreams or your family problems or your kinks that is regularly considered oversharing or at least the kind of tangent that is a bit self-obsessed in any context other than a place strictly meant for sharing ttrpg experiences, such as at your table or a demarcated discord server or in the case of poorly thought out d&d homebrew groups in queer friend groups that require some serious cabbage/goat/wolf logistocs, a therapy couch eleven weeks after it's caused a messy breakup, one person to delete all socials and move off the grid into a tent in the Adirondacks, and a few begrudging changes to the playtest rules.
i, however, as is my sicko nature, will listen very intently about this in all contexts. i think your maid lunar is cool.

Babe??? you've never has the delight of figuring out the wolf-goat-cabbage transportation???? May I please be the one to share the fun with you?
🥬🐐🐺
Riddle:
A peasant (or literally any type of Some Guy(gn)) has to cross the river in a boat with their 3 possessions: an wolf, an goat, and a head of cabbage. The problem is, the peasant is the only one who can row the boat, the boat only fits one other object or creature, so the peasant only can row one of the possessions over at a time. Another thing is, the wolf cannot be left alone with the goat lest one eats the other, and for the same reason the goat cannot be left alone on a shore with the cabbage.
In what order, in least possible moves, should the transfer be done from one shore to another? 🤨
I'm afraid to disappoint you when I reveal that I'm shit at riddles xD and the only solution I can think of is, like, getting the goat across first, then putting the wolf in the boat, and having the guy stick the cabbage between his knees or something. Because cabbages aren't that big, surely!
But I also feel like that's cheating, or the wrong solution, so I'd love to know the actual answer

So I'm assuming the logic puzzle goes as follows.
Wolfgirl will "eat" goatboy. Goatboy will eat cabbage. You have one boat that can hold one other passenger besides yourself. You cannot leave the Wolfgirl with the goatboy OR the goatboy with the cabbage alone together on either side of the river.
Note: this puzzle does have a correct answer. But it's not obvious at first, let's go through my thought process.
Attempt 1: Take the wolfgirl first, and you leave the goatboy alone with the cabbage. Now you don't have a cabbage.
Attempt 2: Take the cabbage first, you leave the wolfgirl alone with the goatboy. Goatboy is now playing tonsil hockey with the wolfgirl. Now you'll never get home in time to make your world famous cabbage stew.
If you take the goatboy first you get a little further. As the wolfgirl and the cabbage don't interact. But then the problem recurses.
Take cabbage second and you leave the goatboy with it when you go back for the wolfgirl.
Take the wolfgirl and you leave her with the goatboy when you go back for the cabbage.
It seems impossible because you need to take BOTH shorelines into account. And there really only is one setup of two beings that doesn't end in disaster. The wolfgirl and the cabbage. And you can't have that duo on both sides of the river at the same time...
*Vsause audio sting*
...or can you?
See, the trick to this puzzle is that you need to backtrack. Meaning you need to take certain characters back and forth across the river to make them avoid eachother.
Let's take the goatboy across first again. Wolfgirl is with cabbage; peachy keen. Now on your second trip take the cabbage, but you can't leave the goatboy with the cabbage, so why don't you just take the goatboy back with you!
Now you functionally have what would have happened if you took the cabbage first. But with less guac guac 9000 for the goatboy.
Then you just take the wolf to the cabbage side. Functionally creating the same pair on the other shore as there was in trip one. Then just take the goat across so you can go home.
Now, you can have your cabbage and eat it too :)
This actually reminds me of the TedEd river crossing puzzle.
Here's the video btw.

The problem with my polycule is that I've got a wolfgirl GF and a goatboy BF and I'm carrying this cabbage so it's basically impossible to cross rivers

Problem Solving Methodology in IT (COMP1001) Assignment Seven
[Weight = 4] (The MCGW problem again) A COMP1001 student recently proposed another way of abstracting the problem. Instead of using 4 Boolean values to represent each state, he suggested to use three for the locations of the cabbage, goat and wolf. That is, the man’s location is excluded from the states. Answer the questions below for this new abstraction. [Weight = 1] Which states are legal…

What Makes Math Brain Teasers So Addictive?
Math brain teasers are a captivating way to engage your mind, exercise your problem-solving skills, and experience the satisfaction of finding solutions to challenging puzzles. They draw us in with their combination of logic, strategy, and creativity, providing a sense of accomplishment when solved. In this article, we will explore the addictive nature of math brain teasers and discuss essential summer camping gear that will enhance your outdoor adventures.
The Allure of Problem-Solving
Buy Camping Stuff
Brain Teaser Example: A farmer needs to transport a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage across a river, but he can only carry one at a time in his boat. He cannot leave the wolf alone with the goat or the goat alone with the cabbage. How can he safely transport all three across the river?
Answer:
The farmer takes the goat across the river first and leaves it on the other side.
He returns and takes the wolf across the river.
He leaves the wolf on the other side and takes the goat back across the river.
He leaves the goat on the original side and takes the cabbage across the river.
Finally, he returns to take the goat across the river.
This puzzle-solving process challenges our ability to navigate complex scenarios and provides a sense of accomplishment when we find the solution.
Cognitive Challenge and Stimulation
Math brain teasers offer cognitive stimulation by engaging different parts of our brain, including logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and creativity. They challenge us to think outside the box and approach problems from new perspectives.
Brain Teaser Example: What is the next number in the following sequence? 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ?
Answer: This sequence is the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers: 1, 1, 2 (1 + 1), 3 (1 + 2), 5 (2 + 3), 8 (3 + 5). Therefore, the next number is 13 (5 + 8).
Social and Competitive Aspects
Sharing math brain teasers with friends or family can create a sense of community and friendly competition. Collaborating on puzzles or competing to see who can solve them first adds an element of social interaction and enjoyment.
Brain Teaser Example: You have 12 coins, and one of them is lighter than the rest. You have a balance scale and can make three weighings. How can you identify the lighter coin?
Answer:
Divide the 12 coins into three groups of four.
Weigh two groups against each other. If they balance, the lighter coin is in the third group. If not, it is in the lighter group.
Take the group with the lighter coin and divide it into two groups of two.
Weigh the two groups against each other. If they balance, the lighter coin is the remaining one.
If not, it will be the lighter group.
This type of puzzle can be a fun challenge when working with others and creates opportunities for discussion and collaboration.
Sense of Accomplishment
The satisfaction of solving a math brain teaser provides a sense of accomplishment and boosts our confidence. Overcoming a challenging puzzle can be a rewarding experience that keeps us coming back for more.
Brain Teaser Example: A square has a diagonal of length 10 units. What is the area of the square?
Answer: The formula for the diagonal of a square is: 𝑑2=𝑠2+𝑠2=2𝑠2d2=s2+s2=2s2 Given the diagonal length is 10 units, we solve for 𝑠2s2: 𝑑2=102=100d2=102=100 2𝑠2=1002s2=100 𝑠2=50s2=50 Therefore, the area of the square is 𝑠2=50s2=50 square units.
Essential Summer Camping Gear
Preparing for a summer camping trip involves packing essential gear that will make your experience comfortable and enjoyable. Here are some key items to consider:
Tent: A durable, weather-resistant tent provides shelter and comfort.
Sleeping Bag: Choose a sleeping bag suitable for the expected temperatures during your trip.
Portable Stove: A compact camping stove allows you to cook meals outdoors.
Cooler: A quality cooler keeps food and drinks fresh and cool.
First Aid Kit: A first aid kit with essential supplies ensures you're prepared for minor injuries.
Insect Repellent: Keep bugs away for a more comfortable camping experience.
Flashlight or Headlamp: These are essential for navigating your campsite at night.
Conclusion
Math brain teasers engage us with their challenging puzzles and rewarding solutions, providing cognitive stimulation and a sense of accomplishment. They can be even more enjoyable when shared with others. As you exercise your mind with math puzzles, consider equipping yourself with essential camping gear to make your summer adventures memorable and comfortable. Enjoy the great outdoors and the mental stimulation of math brain teasers!

I love riddles like the Cabbage-Goat-Wolf problem or the 5L & 3L bucket problem because they seem kinda hard at first, but then you think about it and realize for every step there's only one operation that mutates the state w/o regressing it. Then you get to feel smart for solving it, even though you didn't actually have do any real problem-solving.

Dungeon23/09/01: 'River Crossing' Cogs
I wanted for the dungeon to feature all of the "classic" puzzles I remember from various games and brainteasers I have encountered over the years, but many, like the "wolf, goat, cabbage" river-crossing puzzle, don't actually work very well if they are taken literally: there is almost always a much easier way to circumvent the problem in practice. Not to be dissuaded, when I encounter this sort of issue, I usually boil the nature of the puzzle down to its mathematical rules, and then fashion some sort of clockwork abomination that adheres to those rules. Accordingly, this room contains a bizarre machine where gears are mounted onto sliders, and have to be moved from the left side of the machine to the right in order to open the exit door – but certain configurations of the gears result in the activation of a lethal trap, instead.
Shocking no-one, I have made literally zero progress on the room key and maps this month. But it actually turns out that this is still useful data for planning the remainder of the year  – what I've learned is that a major reason why I've failed to go back and work on the key is because I get caught in a sort of guilt-loop where I'm afraid that writing the key is going to cause me to fall behind in designing new rooms, so any time that I think "I should work on Dungeon23", I always end up brainstorming room ideas instead of working on the maps or the key.
So here, as promised, is the new plan, although it doesn't at all resemble any of the options I previously proposed: I'm going to commit, right now, to Dungeon24. That is to say, I'm abandoning any pretence that I'll actually have a working megadungeon by the end of this year – that's not going to happen and I'm officially throwing in the towel as far as that particular goal.
Instead, for the remainder of the year, my Dungeon23 challenge is just to keep doing what I have been doing: writing up the room concepts in these little 100-500 word snippets. Come hell or high water, I will have 365 of those by New Year's Eve.
And then a whole new awful challenge will start instead.
