Mate!! I’ve just realised you’re an Aussie??!!!! Please throw the Australians a bone and do some sort of WillNE x Aussie reader moment 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m afraid I may turn this into a series… it is largely based in Perth/Melbs/Tas since these are the areas I know well. My apologies for the rest of Aus erasure xx
I Was Neon | WillNE
Tumblr media
Y/N wasn’t sure how she had ended up here. The Sidemen had finally organised a trip to Australia, reaching out to a few different content creators for some help in creating the ultimate down under experience. To make up for JJ’s absence and complete the crew, they’d invited along Freezy, Lux and Will.
She had received a message from Lachlan, a friend of the Sidemen and a Red Bull athlete. Y/N had been working in the sport space for a while, eventually settling working in the Australian Football League. She and Lachlan had met a few years back, when she had helped him grab tickets to an AFL game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Y/N had since moved across the country, finding a home in Perth.
The text came in late.
Lachlan: SOS. Sidemen are coming to Australia. I’m bringing them to Perth.
Y/N: And you’re telling me, why?
Lachlan: I need some help entertaining them
Lachlan: …maybe even some free tickets. I saw that the Eagles are playing Collingwood 😮‍💨
Y/N: Alright. Call me tomorrow and we’ll figure something out 😴
Not even four weeks later, Y/N found herself somehow swinging some annual leave and promising to work remotely. Lachie had organised the trip to start in her home state of Western Australia, before trekking across the country to Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania. Overall, they were squeezing a plethora of activities into just two weeks of travel and Y/N could only be present for about 9 days of the 15 days of travel.
Now here she was. Standing in the arrivals gate of Perth Airport at 11pm on a Wednesday, decked out in an oversized hoodie, leggings and birks. Pimple cream and glasses included. She’d sent a very threatening “don’t you dare film me” text to Lachlan and hoped for the best.
She was standing by baggage claim when a voice boomed, “there’s our girl!”. Lachie came running up to her, wrapping her up in a hug. The group looked exhausted, which mirrored her own face. One by one, the boys all embraced her and introduced themselves. They had strategically chosen a hotel across the road from her apartment, making it easy for them all to meet up. Only problem - the hotel was booked out, meaning two of the boys had to bunk at Y/N’s. The obvious first choice being Lachie.
Upon deciding who would be driving the rental cars, Lachie and Y/N stood around speaking quietly. “I think we should take either Will or Lux with us. They’re both super chill, you’d feel safe with them in your apartment and they’re both gonna be doing work in their downtime like you.”
Y/N quirked her eyebrow. “Which one do you think is the biggest coffee drinker?”.
Lachie laughed. “Will. Guess he’s coming home with us.”
30 minutes later, they were all situated in their respective hotel rooms and spare rooms.
Y/N had given Will a tour of the apartment, showing him his living quarters for the next three nights and most importantly, where to find the coffee machine. The three of them had settled on the couch, cup of tea in hand, debriefing about their day.
“I really appreciate you adopting me for the weekend, Y/N. Gets me away from their antics anyway.” Will laughed softly.
She smiled. “You don’t get FOMO?”.
“Not on a trip like this. 15 days is a long time. I think the place that actually feels homey is a better shout.” She noticed the way his lip upturned as he spoke.
The room fell into a comfortable silence. “Alright my friends, I think I’ll be heading to bed. Some of us have to work tomorrow.” Y/N got up to turn the majority of the lights off, leaving just the ambience lights on. “Goodnight.”
For Y/N, Thursday was controlled chaos. Game day.
The morning was a little more peaceful than it usually was. Lachie had a sinking feeling the day was going to be feral, and managed to beat her to the coffee machine. She’d left the apartment with a keep cup full of coffee, a stale protein bar the boys had found buried in the pantry and a newfound sense of “thank fuck I’m on annual leave tomorrow”.
She was working the footy game scheduled later that night, and with a packed schedule, she had organised for the boys to do a tour of Optus Stadium. Not having the time or energy to plan their entire Western Australia leg, she just let them run loose around her work. Her calendar affectionately titled “Bring The Sidemen To Work Day”. I’ll stop in and say hello on my lunch break. Check in on the kids.
It was about 1pm when she found them all sitting in the grandstands. With a meal prep container in hand and ID badge pinned to her trousers, she made her way over to sit with them. The guide, Angus, immediately took the piss out of her.
“You here for an audit?” He teased.
“If I was, you’d be out of a job.” She winked, taking a seat next to Freezy on the end of the row. Will sat on his other side, meeting her eyes. “Hey roomie.” She grinned.
“Hey Y/N. Brilliant coffee this morning. Kinda like I’ve ingested rocket fuel though.” He smiled.
“I told you Australian roasters are incredible. You won’t be able to go back now.” Her face lit up.
Freezy looked between the two of them. “I think I’m gonna need to move in with you. All I got this morning was the leftover filter that Ethan didn’t want.”
As if sensing Cal was talking shit, Ethan lifted his head up. “Shut up, you prat.”
The three of them stifled a laugh.
Although Y/N was joking around with them all and appeared to be rather casual, the boys couldn’t help but sense that she commanded the room. She walked with purpose, Gus treated her as though he admired her. She appeared to be trustworthy, well respected and invested in her colleagues - but didn’t seem to let others invest in her.
As Gus took them through the tour, he would stop and ask for Y/N’s input. “Would you be a West Coast supporter if you didn’t work for them?”.
She would flush red. “I think I may have ended up a Collingwood girl. My family are all North Melbourne supporters but I can’t stomach the heartache.”
After a brief discussion about team rivalry, Y/N shifted in her seat, checking the time.
Will reached behind Freezy’s back, squeezing her shoulder. “Time to head back?“.
“Yeah. The team’s getting ready to debrief before the game later.” She rose from her seat.
“See you later, roomie.” He winked as she made her way out of the row.
Gus smirked. “Back to slacking off?”.
“About to go finalise your termination.” She stuck her tongue out at him, making her way down the stairs and disappearing into the offices below.
“At least give me a payout!” Gus yelled out.
“Keep dreaming!” The stairwell echoed behind her.
Cal didn’t miss the way Will’s eyes lingered.
Josh turned to Gus. “Can you please tell us what she does for a living? Lachie won’t tell us.”
Lachie laughed. “It’s not that I won’t tell you… she just wears a lot of hats.”
“Look, I’d probably just say she works in media. She’s super important to the club.” Gus said offhandedly.
Harry quirked an eyebrow, laughing. “Important enough to get you fired?”.
It was about 11pm when she finally let loose.
West Coast had won the game, Lachie had convinced her she desperately needed a McFlurry and she’d finally let her hair out of the bun she’d haphazardly scrunched together during a precarious third quarter.
The Sidemen had succumbed to their jet lag, taking the train back home. The other two had gotten word of a sneaky trip to Maccas and stayed back to help clean up the stadium.
Lachie was in the front seat, Y/N at the wheel with Will, Freezy and Lux occupying the backseat. The speakers loudly played “You Get What You Give”, with all of the car windows wound right down. Lachie and Lux held their hands out the window, running their fingers through the breeze.
“You’ve got the music in you.. don’t let go” the group sang in unison.
Lachie looked to Y/N, a glint in his eye. “You’re much happier now.”
She didn’t say anything, but her subtle nod said it all.
10 minutes later, they found themselves in the entryway of her apartment complex.
“Are you guys okay to get home?” Y/N looked to both Cals.
Lux nodded softly. “Of course.” He hesitated. “Hey, thanks. I think we all had a lot of fun today. It was really cool of you to organise it for us.”
A grin tugged at her lip. “Anytime. I’m just glad we won. It doesn’t happen often.” She was met with a resounding laugh from Lachie.
Hugs are exchanged before the two boys make their way across the road to their apartment. As Y/N and her two newfound roommates made their way into her apartment and locked the door, she bid her farewells. “Some of us had to be up early and at work today, so I’m gonna head to bed.”
“Sleep well.” Lachie reached out and pulled her into a hug, placing a kiss on her temple.
“Night Will.” She squeezed his shoulder as she walked past.
“Goodnight roomie.”
Her bedroom door closed shut.
As though it were his own home, Will moved to the tea cupboard she’d shown him the previous night. Lachie opened a drawer and found her secret biscuit stash, leading the two of them out to balcony with steaming cups of tea in hand.
Looking out over the city landscape, Will hesitated to speak.
Lachie sensed it. “Spit it out.”
“I don’t want to overstep, but what did you mean in the car? When you said she’s happier now?”. Will tried to appear casual, pushing the sleeves of his jumper back.
“She’s had a shit time of it the last few months. Shitty boyfriend doing shit things. She still protects him, I think.” Lachie didn’t try to hide the displeasure etching across his features.
“To herself or everybody else?” Will asked timidly.
“I think both. She says it kinda feels like they’re in a weird gray zone - like neither person is right or wrong, but if you ask me - he’s a wanker.” Lachlan frustratedly brought his bottom lip between his teeth, chewing on it.
Will let out a breath. “I don’t know much, but I think you’d have to be a wanker to let her go.”
“Seems like she’s made an impression.”
“A good one.”
An hour later, when Will finally said goodnight, he couldn’t help but linger in the doorway.
There she was, in the rattiest old shirt and knocked about by uneven sleep, trying not to nod off as she refilled her water bottle.
Making his way to the kitchen, he gently rest one hand on her back to softly grab her attention before taking the bottle out of her hands. Their hands lightly brushed as he took the ice out of the freezer.
She stood puzzled, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. “How… how do you know I put ice in that thing?”.
He chuckled. “I saw you doing the same thing this morning.”
Will had gotten the impression he saw only what she wanted him to see. Y/N would crack jokes and laugh at his own, she was ever the gracious host, but she wasn’t letting her guard down anytime soon. Granted, she had been booked and busy in their brief 24 hour friendship. Acquaintance-ship if that were ever a thing.
She paused. “Sweet of you to notice.”
“Go back to bed, sleeping beauty. Want me to tuck you back in and give you a big kiss goodnight?” He teased.
Laughing softly, she jabbed him in the arm. “Geez, take a girl to dinner first.” Smirk on her face, she gestured to her cheek. “Lay one on me.”
Will leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. “Looks like you’re still a frog.”
She pushed him teasingly. “Guess I better call Lux and tell him my spare room is back up for sale.”
They both laughed to themselves as they shut their respective bedroom doors.
Will woke to the sound of Y/N rushing around the kitchen.
Cracking the door open, he stuck his head out.
She spotted him. “Good morning, princess.”
He groaned. “This is what I get for calling you a frog. Where are you off to in a hurry?”.
“Coffee. Would you like anything?”. She stood in front of him, keys and phone in hand.
“Yeah. Can I come with?” He pulled the drawstrings of his hoodie.
She smiled. “Of course. Can you be super quick getting ready though? We’ve gotta get prime real estate on the water.”
Within 5 minutes, Will had changed, thrown a hat on, sunscreened it up and brushed his teeth. Now here he was, walking along the water at 7:30AM with a pretty girl.
After collecting their respective beverages at the coffee kiosk, Y/N led Will to a park bench.
For the next hour, they couldn’t stop yapping.
I’m not an avocado fan.
Do you think the Royal Family were responsible for Diana’s death?
What was YouTube like before AdSense?
I don’t understand how the AFL works. Do you do football fantasy?
The McLaren looks fucking competitive this year.
I like a chilled red wine but nothing warm. Gross.
There was a lull in the conversation. A comfortable silence.
Will looked to her. “You know… Lachlan warned us about you.”
She smirked. “Yeah? What did he say?”.
“He’s under the impression that at least one of the boys will end up falling in love with you.” He laughed.
“I think you might be at an unfair advantage there.” She took a sip of her drink.
“How so?” He quirked an eyebrow. “Because I’m staying with you?”.
“Exactly.”
“Does that not make it harder? I caught you absolutely shoveling overnight oats before you went to work yesterday.” Genuinely curious, he turned to face her.
She was quick to speak. “No. I think it’s intimate in a way. You’re seeing the unfiltered version of me.”
He nodded. “I get the feeling you’re a little guarded.”
“Oh, for sure. Especially with all of you guys around Lachlan. I feel kinda protective over him at the moment.” She turned to face him too.
“Why do you feel protective over him?” Will questioned.
“The tricky part about living in Australia is that you’re removed from the rest of the world. I think he feels like he’s left out when he’s home. Like there’s almost no solidarity.” She spoke clearly.
“It’s not the same but I know the feeling. Sometimes it feels like everyone gets swept up in their own excitement and you get left behind easily.” He spoke quietly, Y/N murmuring in response. “What would you have me do?”.
She hesitated. “I think you guys need to lean on each other a little more. Like it is so important that you have a support system outside of your YouTube friends. But the reality is, there are so few people in the world who can relate to the pressure that you’re under.”
“I know.” He mumbled. “I know that feeling all too well.”
“I just worry that Lachlan’s not got anyone in his corner. Perks of being internationally challenged.” She stared at the morning sky ahead.
He nodded.
He understood.
A/N: Here we go! This seems to have the potential for a few more parts, but it might be a bit niche for those from other parts of the world. Would you still be interested in reading more? Feel free to share your thoughts!
As I mentioned, I’ve been off for a little while but I am back baby! Let me know what you’d like to read.
Lots o love,
Roc xx ✨
Also ngl this is heavily inspired by my friend @octaneink who mentioned the idea of the Sidemen coming to Aus in passing. Have turned it into a whole fic oops.

Max and Daniel’s morning, pre Melbourne padel (~ 930 words) (also a factual and true account of events)
Max traces his hand along the delicate outline of Daniel’s collarbone. Beneath it, Daniel’s chest rises and falls in a steady, even rhythm, disrupted only by the occasional snore. There’s a thick layer of dark hair covering the place where his heart beats. It’s been ages since he stopped waxing, but Max never tires of the opportunity to see him as he was meant to be.
He doesn’t know how long he sits there, in the end. The sun has long risen through the cracks in the curtains, highlighting the bump of Daniel’s nose, the few flecks of grey beginning around his temple, the little bare spot on his beard that Daniel had accidentally shaved when he meant to trim. Max’s fingers are still lightly following the shape of Daniel’s tattoos, halfway through the word ‘love’, when his eyelashes finally flutter.
Normally, Daniel is far more regulated about his sleep schedule than Max is and has usually lived half a day before Max wakes up. It’s the only advantage of Max’s jet lag; when they’re anywhere but home, Max gets to luxuriate in the experience of watching Daniel’s joy-lined face remember there’s a day ahead, before his eyes land on Max and shape back into the sleepy half-smile that’s for no one but them and hotel mornings. Max has watched him wake up a thousand times in a thousand places in a thousand ways, but ever finding it banal would be akin to growing bored with watching the sun rise.
“Good morning,” Daniels says, the greeting low and half lost while his throat remembers how to sound out words. He reaches out a relaxed arm, untwisting it from the cocoon of sheets to grab at Max’s hip. The black rose and tan fingers contrast against the white-pink skin that dimples under his touch, grabbing just enough that Max knows what Daniel is asking for.
He moves out of his cross-legged position to kneel over Daniel’s torso, each leg tight along the sides of his body. Daniel rests his hands on the top of Max’s thighs, moving his fingers tantalizingly slow. They brush the fine hair askew, dip under the tight black confines of his boxer briefs, circle around to the insides of his thighs and just barely graze the slow-growing bulge, before moving almost down to Max’s knees. Max shudders, goosebumps appearing with the lingering remnants of Daniel’s soft touches, before he finally seats himself on Daniel’s stomach and straddles him properly.
Daniel’s not as small as he once was, no longer forced to stay lean and lithe to force himself into a race car. He’s finally able to build muscle in the way he’s always wanted. Max likes him all ways, but he likes it the most when Daniel likes himself. He’s quiet about it, but Max can see it in the way Daniel lingers in the mirror a little longer, appreciating that his workout tops are slightly tighter around the bands of muscle and broader chest.
“Do you still have to be at the shop this morning?” Max asks when Daniel fully wraps his arms around Max’s lower back and lifts himself into a seated position with an exaggerated groan, burying his face into the junction of Max’s neck and shoulder. He nips at it playfully, then nods big enough that Max can feel the answer against his skin.
“Soon?” Max checks. They have padel plans this afternoon before Daniel has to leave the city, make his quiet exit back to his friends and family and farm and nothing that reminds him of the car that was meant to be his. When the clock strikes midnight into Thursday, they both want him away from the noise of this weekend.
“Soon,” Daniel confirms, adjusting Max slightly on his lap and pulling him impossibly closer. Max will make the brief stop to Perth after this, to feel the last rays of Australian summer as it morphs into autumn, in a place where neither of them have to remember racing and can leave behind the resentment of what could have been.
Daniel’s beard is slightly scratchy against Max’s neck, no doubt turning the sensitive skin pinker than the sun soon will. He smells of coconut shampoo and the slightly chemical hotel sheets.
They should take hurried advantage of these spare moments. Max of a few years ago can’t even fathom having an ounce of time with Daniel where someone’s not frantically getting off. He’s enjoying it, though. He could have intense sex with Daniel nonstop and never get bored of the intimacy, the luxury of knowing Daniel’s touch, but he doesn’t feel sick with the need anymore. Daniel is going nowhere. Daniel has run so many times, away from so much and toward the promise of all that has failed him, but he’s always come back to Max. They have forever to know the sounds of each other’s moans, the changing of their bodies and the years, the pride in knowing exactly what pushes the other over the edge. Even on a day where Daniel is leaving, there’s no urgency.
It starts slow and ends slow, Max rutting his hand against the grip of Daniel’s hand, Daniel rocking his hips under Max. Their release is quiet, a shuddered gasp of relief and peppered kisses. There’s no rush to the shower, either. Max has nowhere to be this morning, and Daniel’s commitments rank second on a day like this. Max rests his forehead against a soft head of curls, strokes the velvet soft skin of his back, and soaks peacefully in the rays of Daniel’s love.

Down Bad
Tumblr media
pairing: daniel ricciardo x reader
series: the tortured poets department
synopsis: daniel's childhood best friend, y/n l/n, has always been by his side no matter what. over time she started developing feelings for the driver but it was one sided love.
warnings: one sided love, mentions of depression and suicide
author's note: i knew this song was for daniel because of the tiktok edits of this song with him 😭 hope y'all enjoy!
Did you really beam me up? In a cloud of sparkling dust Just to do experiments on Tell me I was the chosen one
You and Daniel grew up living next to each other in Perth, Australia. Your parents were close with Daniel's so it was obvious you two would be close. Your family would spend weekends supporting Daniel in his karting and Formula 3 days.
Once Daniel got into Formula 1, he would invite you to races. You would always say yes because he was your best friend and you had feelings for him. Of course he didn't know because you didn't want to distract him from getting a World Champion title.
Every time you were invited to a race, Daniel would take you to F1 events. He would beam you up as his girl friend. Not the girl he was dating but a girl that he's been childhood friends with.
It hurt you so much when he would tell people you were just friends. You wanted to be more but you didn't want to distract him from getting a World Champion title. You were in a cloud of sparkling dust as you ignored the questions people asked about you two.
"Hey Y/N," Daniel calls your name. You were currently watching the mechanics fix Daniel's car. "Do you mind if I hold you like this?" Daniel puts your back on his chest as he wraps his arms around your waist.
You blush by this interaction. Daniel has never been this close to you before. "What are you doing Daniel?" You giggle to hide your blushed cheeks.
"Just doing an experiment on you." He smiles at you while the cameras are on you. Daniel then kisses you on the cheek. "You're the chosen one." He whispers in your ear so the media couldn't hear what he was saying. You laugh at his whisper while he continues holding you like this.
Show me that this world is bigger than us Then sent me back where I came from For a moment I knew cosmic love
Later that day, Daniel won the Monaco Grand Prix. He was so happy about winning that he ran up to you and kissed you before going on the podium. You were happy at the moment because your best friend had won and kissed you. That high of happiest ended when Daniel did his post-race interviews.
"So Daniel, we saw that you kissed your best friend before going onto the podium. Are you and Y/N finally dating?" The interviewer asks Daniel.
Daniel smiles before he answers back to the interview. "Great question," He laughs and continues. "No we're not. It just felt right in the moment. She's my best friend and will always be that. She's always supported me through my F1 career and my passion to win a World Championship."
At the moment your whole world came crumbling down. It showed you that F1 and him winning a World Championship was bigger than your relationship with Daniel.
After the post-race interviews were over, Daniel went to his driver room to change into normal clothes. He then sees that you're crying. "Why are you crying Y/N?"
"You know you're a big jerk Daniel." More tears start falling as you continue to explain. "This whole weekend you've been playing with my feelings and I was thought you were trying to imply that you have the same feelings I do. But then you embarrass me to the whole world saying we're just friends."
Daniel watches you as tears continue to fall down your face. He didn't apologize or even comfort you. Instead he changes and leaves the room to head to his Monaco apartment. That night you decided to fly back home not wanting to celebrate with Daniel after his Monaco win.
For a moment you knew cosmic love, but it ended you being sent back to where you came from.
Now I'm down bad crying at the gym Everything comes out teenage petulance "What if I can't have him" "I might just die, it would make no difference."
Tumblr media
ynfan @/yourusername posted an instagram story earlier today at the gym with taylor swift lyrics as the caption. she hasn't posted since daniel publicly embarrassed her by kissing her before stating in an interview that y/n was "just a friend."
user1 the taylor swift lyrics 💔
user2 SHE WAS SO DOWN BAD FOR DANIEL 😭
user3 is teenage petulance shading daniel for his insolent behavior during the monaco gp weekend?
user4 i think she did. daniel was publicly being affectionate to her this weekend to then saying she was "just a friend." friends don't do that to each other.
****
After the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, you've been hitting the gym nonstop. You would listen to Taylor Swift songs and cry while running on the treadmill. Once you got home to your Melbourne apartment, your mom called you to see how you were feeling.
"How are you feeling Y/N?" she asks while you were cooking lunch for yourself.
"I feel like I'm dying," You tell your mom with all honesty. "I've always supported Daniel even when I started developing feelings for him. I hoped that maybe he would feel that same way one day. But not having him in my life makes me want to die. It would make no difference." You start crying as you express your feelings to your mom.
"I wish I could hug you right now Y/N." The flight from Perth to Melbourne was 3 1/2 hours. "Your father and I hate seeing you get hurt by Daniel. We all thought you two would fall in love."
Down bad, waking up in blood Staring at the sky, come back and pick me up What if I can't have us. I might just not get up, I might stay
A couple hours later, you woke up from a nap to a nasty blood bath in the media.
Tumblr media
f1news DANIEL RICCIARDO CONFIRMS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CHILDHOOD FRIEND Y/N: During the Canadian GP weekend, the Australian driver was asked about Y/N. Her absence in the paddock has been noticed since the driver wasn't happy throughout the weekend. Ricciardo says "Y/N and I are not on speaking terms at the moment. I guess what I did really hurt her." The driver says with no remorse.
user1 who wouldn't be hurt if their childhood friend/crush just friend zones you while playing with your feelings?
user2 daniel please fix this 😭 i need you and y/n to be together again 🙏
user3 was monaco gp the last we'll ever see y/niel 😢 it didn't seem like he wanted to fix what he did.
user4 what if we don't get y/niel ever again 💔
****
After seeing that instagram post, you didn't feel like getting up. Daniel had no remorse for what he said to the press. You stayed on your bed the rest of the night crying over Daniel.
Did you take all my old clothes? Just to leave me here naked and alone In a field in my same old town That somehow seems so hollow now
Since your weekends were already reserved for when Daniel had races, you decided to fly back and forth to Perth to visit family. Every time you land in Perth it gelt like Daniel had taken your clothes. The old you. You felt naked and alone because you and Daniel would always come home together.
As you walk around the fields your parents owned. It felt so hollow without Daniel. You two would always walk around your parents' fields talking about the future. Daniel would talk about him winning multiple World Championships while you talked about starting a family with a certain man. He didn't know but that certain man was Daniel.
I loved your hostile takeovers Encounters closer and closer All your indecent exposures How dare you say that it's -
Coming back to Perth overtime became easy for you. It didn't bring you sorrow anymore instead it brought you happiness from all the memories you made with Daniel.
Every time you would go swimming in the ocean, it would bring you closer and closer to the memories you had with Daniel. All the times Daniel had some accidental indecent exposures. You two would laugh when someone saw Daniel being 'indecent.'
It felt wrong to say that it's over. But you were finally healing from the one sided love you had for Daniel.
I'll build you a fort on some planet Where they can all understand it How dare you think it's romantic Leaving me safe and stranded

it wasn't meant to go like this
summary ― a split second and your world comes crashing down
pairing ― sam kerr x reader
warning/s ― fluff, angst?, injury
masterlist
Tumblr media
The 2011/2012 Women’s A-League was a promising year, Caitlin and you put on the blue jersey again. The season went on, Sydney FC taking on win after win.
Sam had come to watch your game in Newcastle, the weather was a little rough for this time of year but the game continued. The grass had soft patches throughout the whole field, rain from the night before not helping at all.
It was one wrong move and you were down, the pain rippled through your ankle as you fell to the ground. You vividly hear the blowing of the whistle, and teammates surrounding you as you let out a groan.
You knew long before the medics confirmed. You’d done it bad. The official report said you had a grade three lateral sprain in your ankle - a complete tear of the muscles. That was your season over.
They carried you off the field, teammates clapping you off the field as the medics continued to work on your ankle. The pain was only getting worse, the shock wearing off as tears spilled. It doesn’t take long for you to be placed in the medical room, Sam joining soon after.
She held your hand as they wrapped you up, explaining your rest period as well as getting you in contact with the team physio. They mentioned surgery but explained that they wanted to keep that as the last resort.
Sam kept you grounded throughout it all. Rubbing her hands up and down your back to keep you relaxed, talking about anything and everything under the sun to get your attention off the pain - and it worked. She even managed to get a smile and some giggles.
The following weeks were hard, you were constantly in pain. You weren’t sleeping well, your ankle wasn’t getting better as fast as you had hoped. Putting a damper on your recovery. Once the swelling had gone down you had been approved for air travel, taking the first plane back home to Perth.
Like many times before your families were standing there with ‘Welcome Home’ posters and balloons. Sam rolled both your suitcases towards your families as you hobbled over with your crutches.
Hugs and kisses were given all around, Sam’s sister taking the bags off her so she could help you through the airport and towards the cars. As much as you wanted to be able to do it all by yourself, you knew that extra support would be needed.
Physio appointments were booked within the week, and your mum, Roxanne and Sam shared the load of getting you to and from. It got worse before it got better. You were so overly tired that you became snapping, Sam receiving the brunt of it.
Fights were becoming a normal occurrence and on multiple occasions either you or Sam would stomp away. The fighting was pointless, arguments about who used the last bit of butter and where did you put my jumper? becoming a constant in your lives. It was pathetic but both of you were too stubborn to admit to being wrong.
Your most recent fight had been about you taking your painkillers, you had been refusing to take them the past few days because you believed you didn’t need them anymore. You knew the faster you were off the painkillers the faster you were to recovering and getting back on the field. Sam, on the other hand, knew you were lying straight through your teeth. She saw the way you would wince every time you put a little bit of pressure on your ankle, she heard you crying at night trying not to wake her up.
Sam had left with the front door slamming behind her, you watched through the front window as she walked across the street to her parent's house. You let out a scoff as you shook your head. If she wanted to throw a fit you’d much rather she do it in her own house, not yours.
You stay seated on the couch, the TV playing in the background as you played on your phone, temple run your new favourite game (thanks to Caitlin). An hour went by, and your legs started to cramp from staying in one place for too long. You felt around from your crutches, your eyes moving around the room to see they were leaning up against the dining table.
An annoyed groan leaves your lips, the distance way too far for you to make it. You turn your attention back to your phone, switching to another game to keep your mind off the cramps.
It worked for twenty minutes, but the cramping was now a dull ache. You looked up at your crutches once again, your brain trying to work out how exactly you were going to get from here to there without injuring yourself further.
Your best option was to get up and go as fast as you could, hoping that the speed would cancel out the fact that you would be using your ankle. Giving yourself a countdown, taking a deep breath before you pull yourself up from the couch. You take one step and then another, the shooting pain through your ankle winds you for a second but you’re determined. You take a second step, placing your bad ankle down once again. You think you have it, a cheer almost leaving your lips before you feel the muscle tighten before it snaps.
The scream leaves your lips before you hit the ground, tears streaming down your face as you lay on the floor. You don’t attempt to move, the pain taking over any attempt to get yourself back up again.
You don’t know how long you lay there, tears streaming down your face. You know you’ve done more damage. You can already hear the physio telling you we’re back to square one, you’re even further away from getting back on the pitch.
Outcome after outcome rumbles in your mind, the thought that you might have fucked it up so bad that you can never play again grows and grows.
You miss the sound of the front door opening again, as well as the bouquet of flowers Sam had bought as an apology hitting the ground as she lets out a scream. She runs towards you, her knees hitting the ground as she grabs your face making you look at her.
“Sam?” you cry out, grabbing onto her arm. The tears don’t stop as she runs her hand over your hair attempting to calm you down. “Sam, I hurt it. I made it worse”
You choked on more tears, closing your eyes as you brought your hands over your face. You can feel her checking over your body, you know her attention is purely focused on your ankle.
She gets herself comfortable next to you, her hand never leaving your hair as she pulls out her phone, the ringing tone enough for you to fall away from your face.
“Who are you calling” You hiccup out, watching Sam as she brings the phone to her ear.
“Your physio, we need him to look over you to see if there’s more damage or not” She doesn’t sound angry as she explains it to you, she uses her hand on your hair to bring your hand to her lips, kissing each knuckle.
“Hi, I’m Sam Kerr calling on behalf of Y/N L/N”
The physio came within the hour, and with the help of Sam, they moved you to your bed, as he looked your ankle over. You hissed as he pressed in, your hand gripped with Sam’s. After his assessments, you wait for the bad news. You wait for the ‘I’m sorry but you’re never going to play again’ but instead he gives you a smile.
“Everything seems okay, no further damage from what I can tell, but I’m more than happy to do another assessment in a few days once the swelling has come down again.”
“Wait. It’s okay?”
He lets out a small laugh as he nods his head “I think you scared yourself more than any damage you caused. It’s just a stress fracture from using it at such a high level after so long of not using it at all. Your foot just wasn’t ready for that much pressure quite yet. I reckon though in a week or two, with your exercises we might be able to take one of the crutches away”
You cry again, Sam pulling you into a hug as she kisses your forehead.
It was going to be okay.
You get the all-clear to play in March.
Your first goal since the injury equals Matilda's tie with New Zealand in a friendly match.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He was the dorky school kid who spent his weekends at the Australian Museum. Gary studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. His radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. Gary’s first gigs were spent as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist, and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary was appointed Science Editor and quickly developed the StarStuff Astronomy shgw, which he wrote, produced, and hosted. The program proved extremely popular, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience -- based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. That compares to the ABC’s overall radio listenership of 5.6 per cent. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times a week (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and it’s available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

Daniel comforting Josh after the playoffs loss against the chiefs would hit
Josh knows that Daniel’s in Australia. Warm and cuddled up to his family. Probably watching the game with his dad and Blake while wearing Josh’s jersey and those tiny shorts that he loved so much.
Josh had wanted to play good for him. Maybe if he played good and won, then Daniel would grin at him in that way only Daniel does. That way he’s seen Daniel grin at the Dutch guy that won’t leave Daniel alone in videos or the paddock. Man does Josh not like that guy, but he would never say a thing to Daniel because Daniel likes him so Josh tolerates him.
But it hadn’t turned out how Josh wanted. No they’d lost by 3 points. And Daniel isn’t here. Josh had lost and Daniel isn’t here.
Josh does the things expected of him. Says a few words to the team, motivation for next year. He speaks to the coaches and changes out of his team kit. He’d much rather head home and shower in his own bathroom than stick around to commiserate.
“Head up, yeah, we’ll get them next year,” someone says as he’s leaving Highmark.
Fuck, he wants to be wrapped around Daniel. But Daniel’s in Perth, surrounded by his family and whichever one of his friends trekked out to visit him.
So he’s very surprised when he sees a bundled up figure leaning against his car.
“Dan? What? How?” Josh questions, shocked but pleased at the sight of Daniel. He’s covered head to toe, but Josh can see the slightest hint of his jersey peaking out.
“I have some meetings in New York later in the week and thought I’d come early to surprise you,” Daniel replies wrapping himself around Josh. “Would’ve been here earlier if not for the delays.”
“Doesn’t matter as long as I get to hold you right now,” Josh replies. He doesn’t care that he sounds like a sappy boyfriend, not when he’s got Daniel in his arms after that hellish game ending.

Dangerous Romance Episode 1
The newest GMMTV Thai BL has dropped and starring Perth X Chimon, this enemies to lovers trope is set in high school. And so far, I’m liking it.
The first episode highlights the societal, economic and class differences between our 2 main characters (and their group of friends).
Tumblr media
We open with Sailom, played by the ever talented Chimon working hard in his part time job, while still maintaining his scholarship attending what appears to be quite a prestigious school (with a lot of the children being sent in expensive looking cars!) - and despite the financial hardship, you can see the cheeky side of Sailom (the way he answered the customer from the car wash shop 😂😂😂). I also love the small details (like how worn out his school shirt is compared to his schoolmates), again highlighting his financial situation. He has 2 loyal friends - both also on scholarships - Auto (Euro Thanaset) who is obsessed with an idol girl group, his mother working in the school canteen means he is always ready to feed Sailom when the latter is short of money. Then we have Guy (Marc Pahun!! So glad you are back on screen!), likely on a football scholarship? - alway ready to back up his friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Contrast with Kanghan, rich and unfortunately a bully. Clearly used to getting his own way, and being the top dog in school (anyone reminded of the F4 series?). He has the teachers wrapped around his fingers and nobody in school dares to go against him. But you can also see he has a soft spot for his grandma and Pimfah (beautiful View!!!! So glad to see her again!). And while his cronies (Max played by JJ, Nawa played by Pawin) shipped them together - Kanghan and Pimfah appears more to be close childhood friends who understand each other (I may of course be proven wrong as the series progress!)
Conflict arises when Auto got tangled up with Kanghan gang by agreeing to help them do a group project for money, but the plan went pear-shaped with Auto ultimately being beaten up. And that’s when the tug and war start between Sailom and Kanghan.
While Sailom tried to do the right thing by reporting the bullying, their homeschool teacher is not buying it (also Kanghan definitely has the teachers wrapped around his fingers) - “it’s just boys playing around. Now apologise and make up with Kanghan.”
It’s start a petty war from Kanghan’s side - throwing water/a shoe to Sailom, cutting up his bag/homeworks and harassing him at his side job
But, Sailom gives back just as good - he has some of the best line in this episode 😂😂😂
Tumblr media
“Do you want to be a hero?” Kanghan
“Why, do you want to be my heroine?” Sailom
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“There’s 2 type of people, the car owner and the car washers.” Kanghan (while slyly putting a credit card in Sailom’s pocket to get him in trouble) before Sailom slyly putting it back in the former pocket “There’s 2 type of people, a smart one and the person thinking he is smart.” Sailom
The episode ended with Auto being used to lure Sailom for essentially a beat up session in front of everyone (While Guy being locked up to stop him from interfering).
And again, despite Kanghan trying to humiliate Sailom by declaring he will forgive everything if Sailom kisses Auto - Sailom flipped the narrative and kissed Kanghan in front of the crowd (🤌👏👏👏) - now that’s a genius move by Sailom (or it could idiotic but we’ll see in next week episode 🫣)
Tumblr media
The first round of Sailom vs Kanghan goes to Sailom. He is smart, sassy and not phased by Kanghan and his groupies. Yes, it’s frustrating and troublesome, but Sailom knows the value of patience. He is also aware of his lower socioeconomic status - and how to circumvent around it. Whether or not he will remain patience as Kanghan intensify his attacks (or if the trailer is to believed when loan sharks comes knocking and his brother get into trouble) will be interesting to see.
Kanghan despite being a bully clearly has a soft spot for his family and close friends. And there seems to be a barrier with his father - on the surface his father seems encouraging but also not?- “I want you to concentrate in school, have fun and hang out with your friends. Don’t need to do run for school president, it’s not fun etc etc.”
You can see his face fell when he heard his dad say the above (also, this is the first time I heard an Asian parent not wanting their children to strive for the best 😂😅) - so, I’m not that surprised why Kanghan just go on with his days cruising, as there is no expectations from his dad..and he seems at loss what to do with his future.
Will be interesting to see how their relationship unfolds as the series progresses!!!

Never Let Me Go, ep 2:
“If you don’t eat, I’ll feed you.” Don’t tease him with a good time.
A WHOLE CROISSANT XD
The social class differences are differencing.
And Nueng just wanted to eat with someone rather than alone…
If driving the car will make him late for school, then walking damn well will. Why do you not care if your own son is late to school?
Poor boy. They put him in an advanced mandarin class. T_T
Chopper seems so…light and friendly. I’m not used to that from Perth.
Making Palm touch your neck is making him feel A Way.
I like him trying to trick Palm into saying his name.
Holy SHIT they really cut off his finger. My dude, now he has a medical problem he has to pay for. That’ll make it harder for him to pay you back. Like, damn.
Chopper is scared of his own dad. He just wants to live a normal life without all this cloak and dagger.
holy shit, Nueng takes shooting, boxing, and horse riding lessons? Plus piano and school? When does the boy rest?
Someone save Chopper. He is on the Struggle Bus.
“Swim longer. I want to watch you.” BOI. That’s not how you learn to swim.
Maggie’s ears look elvish. I like it.
Uh-oh. I think Palm just caught real Feelings. Thank you, Piano Man.
He’s doing a box step. It’s not exactly rocket science, Maggie.
Nueng is jealous.
“I’ll play piano there in my free time.” WHAT FREE TIME.
I’m sorry. That old man is selling what? Cotton candy wrapped in roti? Roti wrapped around sugar. I’ll eat it.
Ben, you’re a little weird.

Spotify Wrapped Ficlets - #1
anon requested #1, Encinitas by Goth Babe. Who else fits that number than our golden boy?
--
Maxiel, Post-retirement Max (roughly 2028)
All he wanted, slamming his suitcase shut and setting it next to the pair of cat carriers, was to be in Perth, at the farm, and next to Daniel where he belonged. He was so tired of summers, of weekends when he could fit them, of facetime calls with stuttering frames in minutes squeezed between sessions. When Daniel had first left the grid, Max didn’t know what to make of it since he knew he was coming back to Red Bull. Then the fiasco with Singapore, and Max was staring down the reality of a grid without the man he loved.
And it sucked. Not enough to make him quit, no, his love of racing and his team balanced it out. But enough to make the long weekends harder, to make the factory visits duller, and for each win that had come to be a little bit more quiet.
And now he was here, disembarking the long flight, shushing his cats, only to be met with a cure for the loneliness clinging to his bones. Relief dripped off his shoulders when he saw Daniel waiting at arrivals, a sign reading “Maximus” in his chicken scratch held in his hand. The cats yowled their displeasure about being set on the uncompromising ground, but they knew the drill from winter breaks past.
Daniel smiled into the kiss, the first of many in public to come, finally. Max leaned in for a second before Daniel could break away before his own smile made them step back, giggling like the school children they very much were not.
“Ready for the next adventure, Maxy?” Daniel grinned, the crow’s feet blooming, matching the joy and love that filled Max’s heart. This is what he wanted, all he wanted, through this god awful final year of his contract and a car that was fighting him tooth and nail when it wasn’t giving up the ghost. Retirement, and the choice to come home to Daniel.
Max matched his glee. “Of course, Daniel. The best to come, yeah?”

[ad_1] Jasprit Bumrah with his teammates in the Perth Test (PC: Debasis Sen) After 150 all out, millions of Indian cricket followers were hoping for a miracle. And the leader delivered. So much so that former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, on his way to Jeddah, messaged and asked how he could watch the game in Dubai on his phone. He did not want to miss the Bumrah spell!  His 6-over spell at the Optus stadium is now part of Indian cricket folklore. Conceding just 9 runs in six overs, Bumrah had the openers and the big fish in Steve Smith with sublime skill to open up the Test match for India. More than the wickets, the scarring he inflicted on the confidence of the Australian batsman could go on to win India a very important Test in Perth if they can continue with the momentum on day 2. I shudder to think that Bumrah was once considered a white-ball specialist. His awkward action was deemed unfit for Test cricket and not many gave him a chance till a fateful Durga Puja afternoon in Kolkata changed it all.  India were playing Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens at the time and the Indian team management had been invited to a Durga Puja organised by former CAB Secretary Biswarup Dey. Not having seen a puja in years, both Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun were excited to undertake the journey from the hotel to Bowbazar in the heart of North Kolkata. It was at the pandal that someone raked up the topic of the South Africa series scheduled for the end of the year.  “Yes, that’s where Ravi first told me about his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah,” Arun recalled during one of our many conversations. “During his years in commentary, Ravi was exposed to the best in the world and that helped him develop a profound eye for talent. Also, he has always loved the West Indians with an action close to Bumrah, for he feels they make it slightly more difficult for the batsmen.”  “We were in the car, and the South Africa series had been playing in my mind for a while,” Shastri would say later. “I wanted a fast bowler who could surprise everyone and could be the X-factor in our bowling attack. Bumrah was our man. That’s when I asked Bharat to have a word with him and tell him to be ready for the series.” When Bharat called Bumrah from the car with Ravi beside him, he was pleasantly surprised. “Clearly, he was not expecting the call,” said Bharat. “The moment I mentioned it to him, he warmed up to the idea and said he would be delighted to play Test cricket, for he always wanted to make a mark in the long form for India. He was a little upset with people labelling him a white-ball bowler and this was his opportunity to change things.”  Bumrah, a perfectionist, grabbed the opportunity with both hands. And when the Indians first stepped out in South Africa, he was the surprise inclusion in the attack. The rest, as they say, is history. What Ravi also did was not tell anyone else about the plan. “We had to keep it under wraps,” he recalled. “That was part of the plan. We wanted Bumrah to remain under the radar and unleash him at the start of the Test series. That’s why we did not mention it to anyone else.” Needless to say, it was a call that transformed India’s bowling attack in red-ball cricket, and gave rise to the best all-format bowler in the world. “The only apprehension was if he could last,” said Bharat. “That’s where you have to give him all the credit. He has worked extremely hard on his fitness and the results are visible to everyone.” In sport, we always speak of moments. This was certainly one of them that changed Indian cricket. Whether Bumrah the leader can change the fate of this Test match and the series is now to be seen.  The post How a Durga puja gave India’s Test team its Bumrah X-factor appeared first on Sports News Portal | Latest Sports Articles | Revsports.
