Creed shifts away from the bars. Remy pauses, confused.

“Rougarou.”

He mumbles out, coughing a little. 

“I'm not sure what that means kid.”

Remy trembles, the stories pressing at him.

“You- you stealin’ chilen when they stray from the paths in the swamps and turn into- into -into a monster.”

Remy presses into the wall, babbling. Creed chuffs.

“I don't steal children. Never wanted any cubs. Too much responsibility. My brother has a ton of pups, but none of them were stolen.”

Creed huffs, shaking himself a bit. The chains clink together as the man shifts. Remy swallows and coughs at the lack of anything to swallow. 

“Drink water kid.”

The man growls out and Remy worries his lip, staring at those inhuman eyes. He swallows and coughs again. 

He looks at his hands and tries to think. Creed has not done anything. Holding his nature against him won't do anything for Remy. Not really. Remy lets his hair shadow his face as he leans over his water bowl and sips. Remy flinches a little as Creed begins to talk.

“Back home I got a big pack. My brother always wanted a really big pack. When we were younger he was always carving little toys out of wood with his claws, hoping that one of them would appeal to a pup. We didnt grow up with any toys or statues or nothin’ so he wanted to make sure any pup he had had all those things. Gah. I thought it was sappy and stupid, till I noticed how happy it made his pups. Honestly, it was cute sometimes. 

Ugg. I miss those pipsqueaks.”

The Sussex Vampire: a bit about Perú

In the last two letters from my dear friend Watson we know about The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire so I have an excuse to dust my old book of history, some English-Spanish dictionaries and Todo Sherlock Holmes.

Mrs. Ferguson (we don't know her name. ACD, how hard was to call her María or Violeta?) and her maid Dolores come from Perú (I know I shouldn't use ´ but I have my Latino ID so I'll do what I want). She was daughter of a Peruvian merchant related to importation of nitrates.

After the Pacific War came a National reconstruction period (1884–1895). During this period Peru has huge external debt and lost many industries related to nitrate production, the occupied provinces of Tacna and Arica were under Chilenization. Latex and oil industries become relevant due to Industrial Revolution but the country was in bankruptcy. In 1886 the Grace Contract was signed between Peru and British bondholders to settle this debt, and the Peruvian Corporation was formed. This corporation agreed to cancel Peru's debt in exchange for £80,000 in annual payments, mining rights, and ownership of the Peruvian rail for 66 years. The corporation also agreed to build 160 kilometers of new railroad.

Nicolás de Piérola was elected president of Peru 1895, and the country began its period known as the Aristocratic Republic. During this time the economy was highly dependent of Britain: The Peruvian Corporation (trains), London Pacific (oil), Cerro de Pasco Minning Corporation (copper), Peruvian Amazon Company (latex rubber) Sugar Company (sugar) and Banco Perú Londres (bank) were the motors of the economy.

Mrs. Ferguson was probably from an aristrocratic family and received a proper education for a woman of her social status, including learning a foreign language like English. Her "alien religion" was Catholicism like the biggest part of the country because that religion reached almost every corner in South America (by choice or force) during the Colonial Era.

The maid Dolores had brown skin, so I guess she was indigenous or mestiza (Spaniard+Indigenous). Like her employer she was Catholic too but she hadn't the same education. There were efforts to increase the number of people able to read, but it was a common practice for kids to leave school and work in the same industries as their parents.

Dolores didn't study English like Mrs. Ferguson, that's why she use Spanish grammar when she speaks:

“She verra ill,” cried the girl, looking with indignant eyes at her master. “She no ask for food. She verra ill. She need doctor. I frightened stay alone with her without doctor.”

She no ask for food = Ella no pregunta por comida ✔

The translation into Spanish made by Juan Manuel Ibeas reflects this with the absence of some sounds and words:

—Ta my enferma gimió la muchacha, mirando con ojos indignados a su señor—. No quere comía. Mu enferma. Necesita doctor. Me da miedo estar sola con ella sin doctor.

And "leesten", IIRC in Spanish we don't have long/short vowels, so the /ɪ/ in listen can be /iː/ like in heel, details that make English a hard language for Latinos, and harder for someone with Dolores' background.

ACD wrote a whole chapter of "The Mystery of Cloomber" with some Scottish accent, so I doesn't surprise me. I like the level of accuracy of this accent. There are high chances that Dolores doesn't even read in Spanish, so this details are more accurate that I expected.

I understand (a bit) why Mrs Fergurson didn't dare to tell her husband what his son did. She was in a foreign country alone with her maid, she had to deal with another language, another religion and she doesn't have her family or friends there. I can't imagine going back to Perú by steamship in times when the Panama Canal was in construction.

Personalmente creo que está bien que hayan decidido matar a Nervioso, más que nada para profundizar lo tanto que pudo haber sufrido trabajando para los Panero de forma clandestina, lo peligroso que es este matrimonio, y asimismo para destacar su mala suerte en todo; me da harta pena igual, ya que Nervioso es mi sim favorito y mi chiquillo merecía lo mejor; PERO tengo una teoría sobre el ciclo de vida de este insano, o mejor dicho qué le pasa cuando fallece.

No me quiero explayar tanto porque no me gusta leer textos largos y así, pero bueno JFJDK, fallaré de forma estrepitosa 😔👊.

Considero que La Parca es muy bondadosa con Nervioso (al ser su primogénito, su único hijo y probablemente futuro heredero de su trabajo), entonces ella lo revive cada vez que él muere, teniendo en cuenta el estatus de mala fortuna de Nervioso y un cariño paternal por parte de La Parca. De esa forma justifico yo porqué Nervioso aún sigue vivo luego del video de Friday the 13th, y, a la vez, su aparición en Los Sims 4 (galería) como un sim vivo (no como Lila Reclutas, quien es un fantasma en esta versión); Nerviosito es un consentido en ese sentido 🔥🔥🔥

Two things:

1. In my country, lolo can be used to mean a young man (and lola a young woman). And, now that I think about it, one of our words for boyfriend and girlfriend are also very similar to them. As you would say 'pololo' for boyfriend and 'polola' for girlfriend. Not that chilenisms make sense for the MC to use in WWC. I just thought it was a neat thing to note. It would be amusing to use a nickname from a variety of Spanish the MC has no connection to at all.

2. This is the real reason I wanted to write this ask. Plainly, I was wondering if you have ever thought about putting some references of your other IFs in WWC or not? Mainly because, although I don't recall if all your IF projects take place in the same universe, some could easily be inserted to as a sneaky reference. For example, for the Hollywood IF, you could include a movie poster or a re-release of a movie that is original to the Hollywood IF (I don't know how the storyline is supposed to go, so I ignore if there are going to be multiple movies in which the MC would act in, or one singular movie; in any case it doesn't change much the idea above).

I had this idea going around in my mind for a while. But I decided to ask based on your post about editing season 1 once you had finished in its entirety. It could an instance to include such reference, specially since, I would assume, at that point you would have the other IFs more figured out in your head.

I'm really excited for what the future brings. I cannot fantasize much about the MC for the Hollywood IF as of yet, given how little we as future readers know. But I do have some idea already of who I would like to play as, even if incredibly undefined.

I also have some more questions about the Hollywood IF, yet I'm hesitant to ask them. I don't want to pressure you into revealing more than you are comfortable. After all, if you wanted to share more about it, you would without needing me, nor anyone, prompting you to do so.

I do like learning slang from other countries you know it was a thing that I saw in some Mexican telenovelas that anytime they wanted to make you know this male character is gay they would name him lolo or some variation of a non-masculine sounding name 😭

As for the references. Hollywood if doesn’t take place in the same universe as WWC. That would mean the supernatural exists within the Hollywood if when I want that story to be realistic so there can’t be unless I want to add a supernatural element to the Hollywood if (I don’t 💀). I don’t want all my ifs to be of the same genre. The mafia if and the Hollywood if take place in the same universe and I’ve talked about characters and references appearing in the mafia if of the Hollywood if since it’s only 40ish years between them. And it would make sense since there are ties between old Hollywood and the classic mafia (*cough* Frank Sinatra *cough*)

Also you can ask about the Hollywood if, I might say I can’t answer yet or I might be able to answer really depends on the questions
