CK animatronic maintenance and R&D Robotics contract with Faz Ent has ended, but their stories are far from over.
Dan's story started with Fazbear Entertainment. His dad, Oliver Rocha, had been a technician at Circus Baby's animatronic rental service back in the late 80's, before Dan had even been born. Oliver had been lucky: he and another technician, Morgan Smith, had been ambushed by the animatronics, but they weren't killed: instead, they were strung up on the stages in order to trick the sensors. Morgan managed to cut himself loose before he could run out of breath, and saved Oliver too. Dan and his brother Tristan had only ever heard stories about Oliver's experience, and they knew that he wasn't exaggerating about what happened to Eggs. So Dan wasn't surprised when upon getting his first job in robotics at some generic factory that manufactured endoskeletons (that he would later learn were the Glamrock endos), he got into an accident after just under a year.
Dan's accident left him with large scars on his face and neck, and tremmors in his hands whenever he tried to use power tools, meaning he'd have to get his certifications again. His then employer wasn't going to help him; he knew as much as the man had left him bleeding on the ground after his accident, so he quit and asked his Wife, Anna Kwemto, the founder of CK animatronic maintenance, if she was looking for a mechanical engineer.
After the contact between CK animatronic maintenance and Fazbear Entertainment came to a premature close in 2021, the ghost of a woman named Adelaide ripped through the computer systems, possessed Steve, and used strange technology to mind control Anna and Mark, causing the Adelaide Incident. Dan only survived thanks to Raha arriving late due to taking her mum's car in for an MOT, which spared her from the start of the final phase of Adelaide's plan.
The incident didn't change how he saw his colleges, and they all helped eachother recover from the horrors they endured. Whilst it did set back Dan's recovery, Anna and everyone else did thier best to help him through.
By the time Faz Ent took the last of their animatronics back in 2024, Dan had managed to re-earn his power tool certification thanks to a collaborative effort from not just Anna and the rest of CK animatronic maintenance, but with the help of Smith&Tea Robotics and R&D Robotics as well. And more importantly, he had a support network who he knew would help him if he ever had such a painful accident again.

i’m making this post mostly for myself but these are my two stories that i’m working on right now
1st story:
i’ve had the longest in my mind. medieval-type setting with at least 3 different countries/empires. each country/empire has different culture/government (for instance, there are at least 2 that have a democracy while the others are all monarchies) but the overarching religion/language is the same in all with certain regional variations.
Urraca: protagonist is female, average looks, mixed, plot officially begins when she’s 18 and extends at least when she is 30+, royal daughter (legitimized by father) but an inferior one since her mother is not the wife (expand on this in the character sheet later), revenge plot is main focus of her story along with succession war/coup plot. once revenge plot ends, court corruption arc will begin. EMPRESS WE GO BIG OR GO HOME.
ALSO A BIG BISEXUAL.
Elyas: other protagonist (will not have POV chapters) is male, mixed race, plots officially begins when he’s 19, 7th prince and possible heir but is also of a lower status since his mother is not the official wife, skilled in all studies but pretends to shy away from physical challenges (he’s actually very skilled in these as well), not considered suitable due to his acting like a fool with on direction but is secretly cunning and manipulative, overthrows eldest brother in coup, demolishes the monarchy to create a constitutional monarchy and destroys the tradition of the ruler having more than one spouse
ANOTHER BIG BISEXUAL.
other characters -
Alula: sister to male protagonist, transfemale, LIVES NO MATTER WHAT, also intelligent and avoids father’s previous marriage proposals thanks to her brother, shamed by others at court while growing up but is much more respected by the time the actual plot starts, A BIG LESBIAN, PATRON OF ARTS AND MARRIES A FEMALE DANCER/POET/ARTIST
main romance: Urraca x Elyas. Childhood acquaintances (studied together while Urraca was visiting the capital, MOM THING - WE’LL GET TO THAT LATER). He’s more into her than she is into him at first because she thinks he’s not reaching his potential. They work together to overthrow the government after they get married. Marriage is based on affection (he’s more so in love with her and she’s pretty much fond of him) and mutual benefit. It’s a monogamous marriage because Elyas went through some shit (tm) from his father having multiple wives and him being almost killed by the other wives so their children could be favored. Elyas is the kind to be a family banquet with the other princes and be like ‘I miss my wife’ and just get up and leave. LOTS OF TRUST AND ADMIRATION BETWEEN THE TWO. One daughter planned between the two and he spoils her to no end tbh he’d literally kill anyone for his baby. Leaves her as the heir to the throne despite mass protest from the court.
2nd story:
modern setting because variety and also because i want to use memes in my story. way more action-based, lots of fighting and more about improvement of people in life. five people form the GROUP. i don’t have all the names figured out tho ldksajflkdjs why is this ????
different realms that exist. human realm, all seeing realm (aka spirit realm or the ‘after life’ - they’re in charge of keeping balance in every realm, you could consider this is the realm that houses ‘gods’ and ‘deities’ that oversee everything), other realm (which houses beings that aren’t human or ‘spirits’ and has its own divisions due to rulership). there’s strict regulations on passing through either realm but humans are always prohibited from moving between any of the realms as they are the weakest out of all the groups physically.
‘barter’ system in place between human realm and all seeing realm. the ‘gods’/ ‘deities’ are largely dependent on people’s belief of them to exist and their power. they protect humans in exchange for putting a cap on their abilities to also protect themselves from being overthrown by their human worshippers (there’s a history of ‘gods’/’deities’ being overthrown and killed by humans). it’s possible for humans to have this cap removed for certain reasons (integral to plot).
protagonist #1: nora
22. she/her. bi. latina. trained fighter (all 3 human protagonists are trained fighters. they meet every week to beat each other up in the riNG DING DONG). childhood friends with kay. smokes. a bit rough around the edges.
protagonist #2: kay
22. he/him. idk much yet except for his lineage but that’s a secret for the rest of the plot. lives with nora in an apartment (they’re not romantically interested in one another).
protagonist #3: leon
23. less trained than the other two but definitely less of an asshole. wants to go to college but the plot puts everything on hold. works at the grocery store downtown and kay and nora go there to mess with him all the time.
all of the human protags are smart-mouthed and they really should just shut up.
protag #4: zero
WHO KNOWS HOW OLD. KINDA EVIL. FROM THE OTHER REALM. NORA TRIES TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM BUT .... . alas. becomes her teacher later one to get her ready for “STUFF” later on. nonbinary. they/them. doesn’t really like humans that much.
human: h them: oooooOOH MYG OOOOOO D >: ((((
them: i think you should use your brain nora: i think you should s*ck my *** : ))))
protag #5: aeri
ALSO FROM THE OTHER REALM. SHE/HER. the only smart one out of everyone. lives in the human realm with special permission because she actually looks human and can pass off other traits as genetic mutations. engineer. fascinated with human realm technology and brings ideas from human realm to other realm. AGAIN THE REALLY SMART BUT ALSO REALLY CUNNING ONE.

5 Favorite Apps for Summer Learning
Summer has a reputation for being nonstop relaxation, never-ending play, and a time when students stay as far from “learning” as they can get. For educators, those long empty weeks result in a phenomenon known as “Summer Slide” — where students start the next academic year behind where they ended the last.
“…on average, students’ achievement scores declined over summer vacation by one month’s worth of school-year learning…” (Brookings)
This doesn’t have to happen. Think about what students don’t like about school. Often, it revolves around repetitive schedules, assigned grades, and/or being forced to take subjects they don’t enjoy. In summer, we can meet students where they want to learn with topics they like by offering a menu of ungraded activities that are self-paced, exciting, energizing, and nothing like school learning. We talk about life-long learners (see my article on life-long learners). This summer, model it by offering educational activities students will choose over watching TV, playing video games, or whatever else they fall into when there’s nothing to do.
Here are favorites that my students love:
Flipgrid
App; freemium
Flipgrid is a video discussion platform where teachers (or even students) record a discussion topic or question to their FlipGrid account. Students respond to the teacher and then to each other with a short video, a recording, an attachment, decorations, or any number of other formats. Responses are collected into a grid format that’s easy to view and fun to read.
This is a private site that requires no student login or registration. No one can access the questions or answers except those included in the teacher’s dashboard. And, it’s nice that teachers can optionally moderate student uploads to confirm appropriateness.
Activity Suggestions
Once a month, add a question to the Flipgrid. It can ask where they’ve gone this summer, who’s visited them, or what books they read. If they have a summer book to read, ask how far they are. Students will then record their answers and view those of classmates. A fun way to inspire participation is to include students from the next year’s class so students get to know each other over the summer.
CK-12 Resources
App, Chromebooks, or any Windows device; free
The CK-12 website offers high-quality learning on a wide variety of STEM subjects delivered as videos, articles, FlexBooks (curricula), simulations, flashcards, activities, images, or lesson plans. Topics include math, science, writing, spelling, health, statistics, SAT prep, engineering, technology, astronomy, English, history and more — over 5,000 topics in seventy languages. With a focus on high school students, it is also great for passionate middle schoolers and college students looking to fill holes in their learning.
Activity Suggestions
This is perfect for a summer “Genius Hour” where students devote a certain amount of time each week to researching and pursuing a topic of interest to them. Or, share this site with high school college-bound students preparing for future classes or who need Independent Study for high school credit.
Flippity
Add-on; free
Flippity is an amazing free add-on that morphs Google Spreadsheets from a data aggregator to a multifunctional fun learning tool. If you have a Google account, you can add it for free. Once added, you can use it to create flashcards, quizzes, tests, spelling words, track progress, track badges earned, award certificates, for tournament brackets, and more. Every time I look, they’ve added more options. These are teacher-created and then shared with students exactly as you would any other Google document.
Activity Suggestions
Every week, share out a new Flippity project that students can finish while on vacation. Perfect choices for this would be a crossword puzzle, word search, hangman, Memory Game, MadLibs, Typing Test, a Quiz Show, and Mix and Match. Additionally, student accomplishments can be tracked using the Badge Tracker, Progress Indicator, or the Certificate Quiz.
Book Creator
Chromebook; free
Book Creator is one of the most popular new tech tools of the 2017-18 school year, enabling students to create and share books of any length in a variety of formats (including comics). Start by creating a teacher account, setting up the class, and inviting students to join. Your class can include up to 40 books (with the free account). Students create ebooks with images, text, video, audio, voice recordings, stickers, background, and more. Once finished, the book can be emailed or opened in iBooks, Google Play, iTunes, or any number of other applications. It can also be downloaded to Google Drive and read or shared from there.
This amazing tool is simple enough for most age groups 2nd grade and up.
Activity Suggestions
Have each student create a book of something that happened over the summer — or their entire summer. Save it to the class Book Creator account so students can read classmates’ books and keep up-to-date on what everyone is doing in these nonschool weeks. You might want to include future classmates in the account so they can get to know the friends they will be spending the next year with.
GCFLearnFree Tech Basics
App or desktop; free
GCFLearnFree.org provides up-to-date quality tutorials in the essential skills high school students and adults need to live and work in the 21st century. This includes Microsoft Office, reading, math, Work and Career, and more than 180 topics, 2,000 lessons, 800 videos, and 55 interactives and games. Learning modalities also include full courses, infographics, and more. No login or registration required–just get started. Students access the GSFLearnFree website, click through to the topic they want to learn, and then go through the lessons at their own pace, in their own time, wherever they best like learning. To track their progress, have them set up a free account (with email and password) so the site can track completed lessons and provide a transcript that can be delivered to the teacher when school returns.
Activity Suggestions
Drill down to the tech skills students may not have for college and career by encouraging them to take GCFFree’s Tech Basics over the summer. Or, have high school students access the GCFLearnFree Work and Career activities. These include writing cover letters and resumes, money basics, job success, and more.
***
If you have a class filled with future lifelong learners, let them fly this summer with one or more of these exciting activities.

THE FUTURE IS FEMALE: A TALK WITH OVERCOATS
By: Pooja Aggarwal, Communications Coordinator
On Friday, April 28th, I got the chance to see Overcoats play at the Red Room. Overcoats is a female duo (Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell) that is taking the music industry by storm. They have just released their debut album, YOUNG, which features minimalist beats, intriguing harmonies, and honest lyrics.
The chemistry between Hana and JJ on stage is undeniable. They opened their show with a long, reassuring hug and then spent the first couple minutes just getting into the moment and looking out into the crowd. One of my favorite moments of the show was when they played "The Fog", which is about the power of individualism. Right after, Hana declared, "The future is intersectional feminism". Later in the show, they did a beautiful cover of Hozier's "Cherry Wine". The show ended with one of their hit singles, "Leave the Light On".
Before the show, I got the chance to talk to JJ and Hana about their new album, their writing process, and the reality of being women in the music industry:
Pooja: I know you both met in college but what have your musical journeys been like individually? We're you both always musical or was it something that really developed when you met each other?
JJ: I think we were both addicted to singing. Our parents always tell us embarrassing stories about how we wouldn't shut up in car journeys. I never learned any instruments so I always sang. I never really performed until college so that was new. I think Hana did a lot of performing in high school.
Hana: Yeah I was in high school a capella and I've dabbled in instruments since I was younger. My parents had me take piano lessons when I was really young and then I eventually took an interest in guitar. I have since picked up a few other things, but vocals and singing was always my main passion. But yeah, I would say we both did some singing in college, but nowhere near as much as now. It was an exponential growth for sure.
Pooja: Your voices match so perfectly. I remember the first time I listened to your music I was so surprised that there were two people singing rather than one! Do you remember the first time you both sang together? What was that moment like?
JJ: I think it's interesting because when we sing individually we have somewhat different voices - we definitely don't have the same exact singing voice. For some reason our voices really mesh when we sing harmony. We had sung different songs in a capella in college. Anytime there was double doors with a little area in between with amazing echoes we would go in there and sing whatever we wanted. People thought it was weird but that's when we realized that our two voices without the rest of an a capella group sounded good.
Pooja: That's awesome! By the way, congratulations on your debut album, YOUNG. If you could describe YOUNG in a sentence or two, how would you describe it?
Hana: YOUNG is an album about growing up. It's meant to make you move and heal the soul.
Pooja: I would definitely agree with that statement. One of the tracks, "Nighttime Hunger" really spoke to me. Can you talk a little about that song and what it's about?
JJ: For us its about how you kind of end up battling a lot of demons in the dark. In college, especially when the sun was going down, I would think, oh my god what am I doing with my life, and then when light pours in, everything would be okay. We wanted to write about that kind of experience and feeling. I guess reclaiming it because the chorus seems like an anthem to scare away those demons.
Pooja: What is your writing process like? Is it something that you guys do totally collaboratively, or do you mostly write on your own and then come together?
JJ: We do a mixture of things. Sometimes we sit down and write a song from start to finish line by line. Sometimes it's more of us bouncing ideas back and forth with voice memos.
Hana: It's really fun to do both. It's good to sit and write a song together and to write separately because of the tension between both of our ideas. If we're writing from different spaces it can create really interesting dynamics and contradictions.
JJ: I think that's what we like in our music. If Hana is working on a folk song, for example, and I take it and add a really crass beat, it's something you shouldn't be doing and that's what's exciting about it. It's these folk lyrics that really speak to the head and the heart and then dance beats on top of it.
Hana: We try to f*ck songs up.
JJ: Once they've been f*cked up, we feel that they're Overcoats.
Hana: Somebody wrote in an album review that said there are no "Hana songs" or "JJ songs". In order to be an Overcoats song they really have to be a mixture of both of our ideas.
JJ: Our ideas are not even that contradictory because we do have the exact same vision for our music. We discovered that in many small incidents involving choosing the kick drum to put in one song or choosing a synth sound. We would choose the exact same one out of a choice of 50 or something like that.
Pooja: That's chemistry.
JJ: Yeah it is chemistry. We don't have opposite visions that we're trying to meld. We have one vision and we occasionally have different sonic paths to that vision.
Pooja: Is there any advice you would give to young artists, specifically female artists, about working in a male-dominated music industry?
JJ: I think the thing that I want to tell a lot of female young musicians that I see play is don't be self-deprecating. There's no need to be. I used to do this and be really self-deprecating on stage and sort of like, I don't know what this song is but here we go. I want to just look at them and tell them, you got this girl. You have created this expression and you should share it! Everybody wants to be here listening to you.
Hana: I would say believe in your ideas. I feel like I've experience a lot, particularly working in a recording studio. I would set something up a certain way or want to do something a certain way, and I would have this male producer say, well this is how its usually done. There's kind of this knowledge that they try to place on you - mansplaining. I think it's really important to believe in your own ideas because you don't have to do things the way somebody tells you to do them. You don't have to do things the way they have been done. Women are silenced a lot with different ideas because they are pressured into a man telling them how something should be done.
JJ: Especially in a technological arena. I remember instances where a male producer that we'd be working with would cut you (Hana) off and tell us what he thought we actually wanted. He'd say, I think you're looking for this sound. Hana would have to say, no we're looking for this. As an end result, we got called "b*tches" by the recording studio that we we're recording at before this album in previous recording sessions. We got labeled as "b*tches" or "bossy", or "hard to work with" because we know what we're doing and we know what we want.
JJ: It was a different story working with professional producers that we had invited into the project. But with the sound engineers who were recording the sessions, it was ridiculous.
Hana: We were really lucky to work with three male producers on the album that were all wonderful, but this is something that a lot of women have gone through.
JJ: I think that it's also not singular to the music industry. There are so many male dominant spaces where you get labeled a b*tch if you stick up for yourself, but we have to keep fighting that everyday.
