The best thing about my three all-time faves is that they absolutely could be friends.

I talked in the past about Killer and Lust having plenty of similarities (they both come from situations where violence was normalized to them, their souls and emotions were messed with against their will, and they both tend to be objectified a lot, with Killer being seen as a weapon and Lust as a sexual object). But also, they have plenty to give to each other. Killer can teach Lust how to defend himself better and Lust has a lot to teach him about self expression, individuality and so on.

They're a great duo already, but I can make the dynamic better by throwing Red into the mix.

My guy comes from a world that doesn't fit among the darker AUs like HorrorTale, DustTale, or Something New, but it doesn't fit among the lighter ones either. Violence was very much normalized there and he's used to being a weakling compared to those around him. Nothing but easy EXP (I don't doubt that he and his brother had come to rely on one another a ton during their time in UnderFell. Those two are codependent af and nobody will ever convince me otherwise).

He can empathize with Lust's and Killer's feelings of being something other because he was. However, he cam also teach them a lot. He can teach them how to stand up for themselves (because, while Killer knows how to fight, that guy is the worst advocate of his own boundaries), and how to truly trust. He'd be out there helping to reconnect with their bros (and maybe helping Color too since we're at it, because if Killer's there Color is never too far behind) and that's a hill I'm willing to die on.

Also, my brain gave me the name "shades of love trio" for them and it fucking slaps, so one more reason to make them buddies

This is probably just full programmer projection but how pissed do you think Turbo was when fifth gen games started rolling into the arcade? Guy takes all this time to learn code and learn the different assembly languages like z80 and 6502 and maybe even m68k and he's probably reaching a point where he thinks he has it all figured out.

And then around the mid-ish 90s games along the same vein as Sugar Rush start coming out.

And now not only are they running on an assembly language Turbo had probably not seen before (MIPS), but they're also being programmed mostly in C, a completely different language that he will be learning for the first time without the help of any book or reference cards.

And so now he's almost worse off, because not only does he have to juggle figuring out which MIPS opcodes are the same and which opcodes are different from the previous assembly languages he learned (and handling 32 bit architecture) but now he's also gotta learn what inline embedding is and how to do it in a language he is only now encountering.

Oh to be a fly on the wall (or bug in the code lmao) when he was dealing with that.

listen i know arakawa vehemently refused the idea of introducing a love triangle/a love rival in silver spoon

but heres the thing

she already did

her name is ayame minamikujou

she is introduced as mikage's childhood friend. shes loud and condescending and annoying. but most importantly she is viscerally jealous of hachiken's spot in ezo ag because it means he gets to go to school with mikage.

she believes he took the place that belongs to her. she treats him poorly. refuses to remember his name and picks whatever number comes to her mind instead. to a point that becomes ridiculous. like what the fuck is this

she shows zero respect towards him but she. compliments mikage a lot? under the guise of being a rival of course but like we know how gay rivalries tend to be. she shows a lot of faith in mikage's abilities and pushes her to be better. she's even the whole reason mikage becomes less nervous and competes as well as she did.

i dont have the panels but did i mention that she founded an equestrian club at her school and is its only member? going through all that trouble just to see mikage in competitions? probably getting hounded by faculty to get more members or to give it up? all that for a girl? interesting. very interesting

anyways the day hachiken collapses she drops by to be a general nuisance, but when aki asks for her help, she calls her dad to bring her horse with zero hesitation

the second she hears aki intends to go to college, she decides she wants to go too (once again under the guise of "competition", which is fooling absolutely nobody by now)

when she fails and shingo pushes her to try again, she complains that it means she would be aki's junior.

what this means :

a- confirmation that just like many other things literally her only motivation is to be with aki

b- as pointed out by hachiken, she fully believes that aki will get in through her recommendation

when aki's recommendation is accepted she brags about knowing aki had it in her all along. and like, she's right. she believed in mikage the whole time (even though she shows it in her weird ojou-sama ways)

bonus: she hates men

the entire thing is hilarious in and of itself (imo she is THE funniest character) but what makes it funnier is the idea that arakawa didnt put in a love rival at the request of her editor, just to write a character that is essentially a mockery of the idea.

even funnier than that is the fact that hachiken was sitting there, worrying sick about the possibility of aki and komaba being together because of a few misunderstandings, when this girl is essentially claiming that she will steal his gf whenever she's on the page

OC-tober (late) Day 7: Personality

it started just as "me projecting on a character i happen to like" but i've grown increasingly fond of interpreting riko as transmasc (or really any form of trans who's unaware at this point in time). not in a "girl is rowdy? must really be Boy!" sense but rather in a "young trans person's life cut short on the cusp of grasping a better one for themself" sense

i just think there is something very transgender about riko, her (his for this post's sake) whole life convincing himself he's happy being treated as vaguely "special/different" and then. "Assimilated" - and i don't say this to deny riko's genuine feelings he shows about merging with tengen in the second episode, as i think they're more than just "what he tells himself to make himself feel better", but rather to express that while he's never questioned his lot in life, there's still more he's missing in ways of friends, community, and experiences, being only 14 after all, having his closest friend be his caregiver, having no strong feelings about the deaths of his family - and he only realizes this when he's granted all of that for only a few days.

being shown community and support by others and realizing, only when you have unconditional support and safety, there's more to life than assimilating and filling in the role you've been told you have to fill and have convinced yourself you want to fill. realizing you can be more. realizing you can make friends and have fun outside of the people you simply exist around. realizing you can thrive rather than just survive. realizing that the loneliness you feel needing to 'assimilate' isn't going to go away until you feel safe and loved enough to reject it entirely and start living the life you want to. yeah

i also just think (similarly to how i hc junpei as transfem) it's a tragic little show of "what could have been", for riko's life and all the opportunities and the person they could have been, regardless of gender, to be cut short.

tldr: i need to get off my ass and write the riko lives au where he transitions
