Remember this thing that i made?
Good times, good times
Either way, i actually wrote down a more detailed responses!
Get ready for dat headcanon action!!
I'll type it out in seperate categories
The "thanks" category:
Beat: "Thanks? I don't know what are you trying to achieve here"
Rhyth: "Awww thank you!! I love you too, you're my best friend ❤️❤️"
The "laughs nervously" category:
Yoyo: *pulls up his hood in embarrassment*
Garam: references the "stay cool" line, after which it cuts to him throwing a person in the sewers halfpipe
Doom Rider: runs away in the most goofy way possible (probably falls down the stairs too)
The "I'm sorry" category:
Corn: literally says the thing. Probably also says the rawest line about how this is truly the moment when the leadership gets tested(or whatever that one line was)
The "who doesn't?" category:
K: goes on about that he's aware and but he can't accept the confession, because he prefers his ladies to be cel-shaded
Gum: literally says this after which bombards you with whatever tutorial she has to say to you at this point
The "horrible decision, really" category:
Cube: just her saying this, while sitting in her evil chair in the evil lair while being in the evil mask lit up by evil li-
The "laughs hysterically" category:
Rapid 99: "Hah! What, are you kidding?"(reference to that dialogue when you don't have enough souls)
Love Shocker: laughs, and says "What a joke. KILL THEM GIRLS!!" after which two more LS appear
Hayashi:

The "finger guns" category:
Boogie: optimistic looking *finger guns* (while thinking: "I DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY EVEN ARE")
Jazz: unamused looking *finger guns*(while having a very compressed image of a 😳 in her mind)
Immortals:

The "i know" category:
Roboy: "Well obviously. It couldn't be any other way. Unfortunately i don't date noobs so get out"
Combo: something referencing that post-game line of "be careful not to crush on me" or accuse them of being a goldfish liker
The "why" category:
Soda: literally saying this, but with the most dramatic possible angle and rendering
The "YEET" category:
Clutch: *steals your graffiti souls*
Poison Jam: throws you off a high place and references the "nothing in life is free you gotta work for it" line
Last "if only there was someone who loved you" category:
Zero Beat, Noise Tank and Gouji standing together and silently judging
#(also intending to have almost all of these end as an implied and not implied rejection because i'm funny like that)#( i am probably only person alive who ever referenced that dj k interview. oh well)#jet set radio future#beat jsrf#rhyth jsrf#corn jsrf#yoyo jsrf#garam jsrf#doom riders jsrf#dj professor k jsrf#gum jsrf#cube jsrf#rapid 99 jsrf#love shockers jsrf#hayashi jsrf#boogie jsrf#jazz jsrf#immortals jsrf#roboy jsrf#combo jsrf#soda jsrf#clutch jsrf#poison jam jsrf#zero beat jsrf#noise tank jsrf#gouji jsrf

The GG's Guys (Part 1) ᯓ★ I swear I chose to do these guys first because they show up in the game before the other ones do, but coincidentally they're also my favorites out of all the males 😅 Here you go, @tofu-lemon :) P.S. We're gonna ignore the clipping of Combo's boombox. He needs to have it!! That'd be like Super Mario without his hat and mustache.
★ Corn: hair / hoodie + cap + shirt / cargo pants / sneakers / chain
★ Yoyo: hair / vest + shirt / shorts / sneakers / glasses / crossbody pack / gloves / socks
★ Combo: hair (get to work pack) / tank top (poolside splash kit) / pants / sneakers / glasses / ear piercings / chain / rings / boombox
★ Beat: hair / hair overlay / crop top / leather pants / sneakers / headphones / glasses / necklace / gloves

JSRF Headcanon Breakdown
okay I've been sitting on this for a LONG while and I just need a place where I can ramble about my dorks and worldbuilding headcanons so here we fkin go.
please remember, these are MY headcanons and interpretations and they're subject to change. thank you.
height & age chart hc(s):
most of the ages were grabbed from the jsrf wiki. if the character didn't have a specified age, then i'd either find their jsr age and tweaked it up by a year or two, or come up with one myself. highest age i'd consider is 26 or 27 because the GG cast is full of teens and YOUNG adults.
the reason Yoyo is short compared to all the other males is due to malnutrition during his important developmental years. I think he's a child of neglect, like, "mommy had to spend 23/6 working to pay off daddy's debts" type neglect, and Yoyo had to raise himself, which means he grew up mostly eating ramen and other cheap foods because trying to cook and accidently burning down their crummy house was a genuine fear of his.
general hc(s):
corn - pretty quiet but hella observant. not afraid to voice his grievances tho. certified fact checker
gum - group's older sister. corn's right hand women and voice of the operation. whips people into shape real quick
yoyo - local dumbass and gremlin. prank master. cares little for his own safety. the average "i hide my depression behind humor" type. why talk about my problems when I can talk about my new shiny Pikachu? lied about his day/achievements to make his mom happy. adhd incarnate
beat - tries not to care but ends up caring way too fucking much. the one that bails people out of jail and hands them over to gum to get their ass whooped. peak example of repressed homosexuality. secondary fact checker
combo - gentle giant group dad. live and let live, unless youre a cop, then get f*cked. he's seen some shit. don't mess with his children homies, but all around chill dude. probably carrying an unregistered blicky tho (never got caught lacking again). bro is an absolute demon at uno.
rhyth/mew - skimpy but not slutty. pastel colours. glitters and unicorns and all that shit. but she will snatch your ankles and your wallet without you noticing. second in command of yoyo's prank group. edible maker, shares weed stash with clutch sometimes.
boogie - southern sweetheart. calls everyone sugar or hun. pretty laid back. 90's disco/diner era aesthetic. one the two in the group that actually knows how to cook more than grilled cheese and ramen.
garam - chaos incarnate, 3rd member of yoyo's prank team. day one homie for life.
jazz - the mom friend. blesses these dumbasses with wisdom and life advice (this includes relationship advice). loves reading like the absolute book nerd she is. secondary cook.
cube - my chemical romance listener. slow to trust but loyal to a fault. will murder your enemies for you. says shit how it is. honourary 4th member of yoyo's prank squad.
soda - maladaptive daydreamer, possibly "suffering" from autism (he's like me fr). this is the mf that sends random questions, memes, and bug facts in the gc at 3am.
clutch - THE pothead. this guy is buzzed out the wazoo 25/8. kind of has that asshole older brother energy. bullies you but only HE can bully you. everyone else will get their shit rocked. basically makes fun of whatever problem you're going thru but helps you with it anyways.

the radio watches (might come up with a better name later lol) are how they broadcast when a race is talking place, which is how DJ PK is always narrating races.
world-building hc(s):
jsrf may be a re-imagining of jsr, but I like to use jsr as a loose basis for the lore behind jsrf. for example, Beat is the leader of the GGs is jsr but not jsrf. instead of ignoring one over the other, I merge them by imagining that Beat was the leader, but handed over leadership to Corn to handle personal matters. then when he rejoins, preferred not to take it back despite making jokes about doing so.
these broadcasts are hosted on a rudie only server, which means you need credentials, and you can only get credentials via a reference from an existing account holder (aka another gang member or the gang leader). solo rudie's are pretty much cooked unless they have connections.
the only reason the rokkaku police always showing up is because they either get tipped off by civilians or by other gangs who'll sometimes give anonymous tips for something in return.
the watch can also be used as a walkie talkie and has optional location sharing for gang members.

Hi!
My sister told me to open an ask blog, she said it could be fun so I been working on it for a while. You can ask whatever you want, or at least meanwhile we could have a safe space, this is made for fun after all.
Anyway, have a quick look to our funky cast!
(These designs took a lot of time to be done, so this how they're gonna look for this whole thing)
Tbh the only rule here is to be kind, as I already said this blog is meant to be just for fun, a safe space, but anyway
Hope we can enjoy this!

OH MY GOODNESS...I JUST THOUGHT OF THE UTMOST INTERESTING IDEA!
Coin makes his return...as a ghost...
I feel like this could work, *especially in JSRF*. I'm hoping it can work in the new game as well.
I've recently drawn doodles of this idea to see how this would work. On paper. But there's also this:
[I'm still thinking of how Ghost Coin will look, so the design on the image might be temporary]
I'd imagine that you'd unlock him post game, there would be a secret way to get him.
Passer-byes might ignore his presence or comment on a "cold breeze", because of his body not able to touch, hold and feel some things. This might give him an advantage as certain entities just go through him.
I don't know if he'll take damage to enemies or do graffiti, heck, even trying to equip the graffiti spray.

What a phenomenal game.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was everything I wanted and more. As an OG fan of Jet Set Radio, and a diehard fan of Future, this was just...beautiful.
Please go play this game.
#bomb rush cyberfunk#BRC#Jet Set Radio#Jet Set Radio Future#JSR#JSRF#ive only got three gripes. 1: switch version has a few bugs. not that many surprisingly! but a few. and the load time on it is slooooooow.#but when it loads its fucking glorious#2: porta potties lower your police heat/change your outfit. however theres like 2-3 per map. and the maps are massive#its fun fighting police but by endgame its fucking annooooooying. and I just wanna play and see all the outfits while I get all the combos#3: All the music in the advertisements? made by Nakanuma? you wont hear them until endgame. Which was really disappointing tbh.#The soundtrack is good but Nakanuma...he just hits SO much differently.#maybe Im looking at it through nostalgic glasses or the ads got to me but his songs not being there until the last few hours of the game?#still the game is fucking awesome and worth the asking price theres so much replayability imo. Its a strong 9/10.

all that said. despite so much of this stuff being heavily future-based. i find og jsr more fun to actually Play LMAO
#mod noname#not yoyo#like. i dont know if i can say one is better than the other#they are very different games that try to do very different things#and they have diff strengths and weaknesses too#like i prefer the og's artstyle but future has more fun settings#and i think i geeeenerally would say im a future ost guy (though theyre both very good)#(us!og jsr has dragula which is hilarious to me and a point in its favor tho.)#and future obviously has more story stuff going on. and hits my preferred sweet spot of zaniness i think#but og jsr is just straight up more fun for me#the combat in future is not great imo and i def prefer how FUCKING STRESSFUL og jsr's enemies are LOL#but that said - i am also a guy who likes to Dodge things more than fight them!#and also while future's maps are like. big and complex#that actually makes things HARDER for me because my ass gets lost SUPER easily#so the comparatively more compact maps in og jsr is more up my alley#i also like og jsr's fucked up overly precise grinding/combos mechanics because im sick in the head.#ultimately i think theyre both flawed but enjoyable games though#and their flaws are very endearing to me#so many things in both games that just leaves me like “WHAT?? BUT WHY????” but in a charmed sort of way#why the fuck do the 'exit' routes in og jsr exist. actively hostile game design#the jsrf noise tank cleanup. why even#those games just Did Shit man

[Review] Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5)
Jet Set Radio Future 2 is here, and it's all I ever wanted.
When Team Reptile made Lethal League and—more precisely—its sequel, they did an excellent job capturing the feel and aesthetic of Sega's Jet Set Radio games in a new genre. Now they've only gone and bloody done it - made an actual Jet Set Radio homage game, and it's an absolute stunner! Specifically, this is a pitch-perfect pastiche of Jet Set Radio Future, acting as a sequel to the 2002 classic in all but name, and since that particular instalment is a personal favourite of mine, I couldn't be happier.
BRC seems to deeply understand what was great about JSRF and then faithfully and lovingly recreates it, with some new ideas and refinements to boot. In case you need catching up, it's a sort of urban street punk adventure: you get around, grind, and trick on inline skates, tag graffiti all over, contest with rival gangs, and avoid the overzealous police force. The world is colourful and detailed but a bit low-poly with a cel-shaded filter, and levels are set up as huge skatepark playgrounds. All the while a soundtrack of fresh beats including hip-hop, house, and electropop accompanies you.
In BRC the structure of story-related tasks broken up by exploration returns, the levels full of collectibles to give you new colour schemes, music tracks, graffiti designs, etc. as well as just setpieces to "platform" around. A fast-travel system helps you get between areas, some of which replay the hits of JSRF while others explore new territory like a mall complex or industrial oil rig; the setting of New Amsterdam nods to the developer's Dutch origin but in practice it feels like it would easily fit in Tokyo-to (disclaimer, I have never visited The Netherlands). In addition to skates you have skateboards and BMX, each one having slightly different manoeuvrability plus the chance to open certain doors in the game world: for example, a skateboard can trick on fire hydrants to get elevated to a handful of secret areas. This gives more of a reason to have different ones on hand but can feel like an arbitrary passkey check.
Movement is aided by the new boost pack mechanic, which gives you an enormously useful air-dash. A boost meter gives you some speed but can also freshen up trick combos and extend your manual, while it's refilled by tricking (like in Sonic Rush), so doing these cool lines and combos feeds back into movement in a satisfying way. Cans have been done away with entirely so you can tag at any time without worry, and graffiti minigames have actually been brought back from the original JSR, except here they're super quick and snappy, and your inputs determine which of your unlocked tags goes up which keeps the visuals fresh.
A handy new feature is the flip-phone menu (reminiscent of The Arcane Kids' vaguely JSR-esque Zineth). It's great for flavour but also lets you get tips from teammates or contact new recruits, check out your range of graffiti designs and how to write them, consult a persistent minimap while highlighting tag spots, or change the currently playing music. And speaking of the soundtrack, it's sublime, a heady mix and perfect tonal accompaniment that even includes three tracks from the funky uncle himself Hideki Naganuma (much like Hover before it)... and if you ask me they're some of his best.
Another way BRC expands slightly on JSRF's template is a bit more emphasis on plot, with a central mystery revolving around recently-decapitated protagonist Red, his new cyberhead, and his connections to the previous top dogs in the city's counterculture. This framing fumbles at times, but it gives more purpose to your interactions with other rudies and conflicts with the cops, and interstitial sequences between chapters lets the game reinterpret JSRF's surreal climax in a dream context.
I've been eagerly awaiting this game and as a big fan of JSRF it didn't disappoint. BRC takes everything I loved about that (now slightly creaky and inaccessible) game and gives it a fresh coat of paint. I've seen people gripe about the price and playtime but both are about on par with the game that it styles itself as a love letter to, so it would be disingenuous of me to complain about either. Better by far to celebrate what an awesome achievement this game is in recapturing a unique classic while brilliantly modernising it. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk reminds me why I love video games.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, beat September 11th.
Y'know how I said JSRF went hard? Hoooooooo boy. This game fucking RULES. The gameplay is like JSRF on crack and I'm not even exaggerating a little. The art style feels like a great combo of what I liked about the first two, and the soundtrack, while I don't like quite as much, still goes hard and captures that same energy perfectly. The graffiti system is such a massive improvement that makes you feel so cool and aaaaa it's just a great game. The story is definitely...there, but I still feel way more attached about any of these characters in terms of writing than I ever did with both JSR games.
Also Vinyl my beloved she's so cool

bomb rush cyberfunk is rly damn good, feels kinda like a mid point between OG Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future, but with some improvements over both (graffiti system is slick and fun, being able to switch to just walking to kinda slow down and plan out your next move) but two small things is I feel like momentum decays a bit too quick and can slow the game down a bit more than id prefer and also I think the overall area design from a "graybox" gameplay standpoint is a little looser with a bit too much "blank" space between rails or whatever to grind on, and it doesnt feel quite as good as JSRF in the flow of stuff to combo on across an area, but I think to some degree its by design to encourage the use of manualing tony hawk style and trying to build up and use boost to cover gaps, so its not nessecarily a negative just different
