What’s the architecture/layout of old Bur, how do modern people perceive the ruins?
The city in its peak was very large and spread over both shoreline and a network of small islands. These islands comprised a waterfront district connected by a network of bridges and canals, where a large portion of its non-agricultural lower class lived.
It had a fairly well organized and efficient freshwater+sanitation system across most of its span (the canal district had less effective plumbing largely due to logistical difficulties, most of its wastewater was instead flushed by rain powered cisterns). The water system was powered by the Hsuke river and made fresh water readily accessible throughout the majority of the city (though few homes had direct freshwater plumbing). It had several major public baths, and the homes of the wealthiest members of society had their own private bathing pools.
In this part of the world, it is broadly regarded as once being one of the most beautiful cities to have ever existed. It was particularly noted for its water gardens (still a fixture of present day Burri culture) which were absolute marvels of engineering for that period, with the majority of these being entirely artificial and supported by its network of aqueducts. These hosted thousands of ornamental plants, fish, and fowl, as well as fruiting trees and shrubs. They were treated as a public work meant to benefit all citizens, and existed throughout the city.
The palace in particular was noted as impressive, in part for its architecture but mainly for its gardens. These hosted 'exotic' plants and a menagerie of animals from across the empire's territory, and existed in part as a symbol of the state's power and reach. It was a trend for emperors to bring in the fiercest animal from each conquered province to the grounds, with the an-nechoi being the beast of choice from the lands across the sea to the east, with one (Probably erroneously) cited as killing thirty servants in the process of moving it into the gardens.
The palace was located within the temple district. This district housed over a hundred shrines to the various lesser deities of the pantheon, and temple complexes to the seven chief deities (the firstborn gods who created the world, all other gods were later descendants). Old Burri temples were Kinda similar in shape to a ziggurat, though had an accessible interior space and a central tower which housed the shrine. At this time, the chief gods were believed to physically inhabit their temples. Each god had its own high priest permitted to attend to their shrine, with the emperor being the high priest to Inanariya (king of the gods) and the only person permitted to directly commune with this deity. The foundations to these temples are relatively intact in the present day, though none of the towers remain (collapsed in earthquakes with no one to rebuild them).
The city was heavily fortified, having one external wall surrounding most of its length, and an internal wall surrounding the palace/temple district (which doubled as a fortress).
---
The period of sea level rise began with a 500ish year period of mostly gradual increase, which occurred slowly enough that most infrastructure could adapt very easily and the problem went unnoticed by most (the city of Bur experienced most of its Growth during this time). It then culminated with about a century of (relatively) rapid rise, which is the direct cause of the city's abandonment.
The canals flooding had always been a problem during storms, but this began to occur with notable frequency, alongside the water level as a whole rising quickly enough to be noticed on an immediate human timespan. The canal district was maintained for a while by rerouting some of its waterways and building up barriers, but it was the first part of the city to be abandoned. Things got more serious when the mainland parts of the city grew increasingly impacted by storm surges that never seemed to fully retract, and major parts of its surrounding farmland were hit by surges and tidal waves, and rendered too saline to remain arable.
The actual single biggest cataclysm was the collapse of the city's mainland sewage system. It was built with flood canals as a failsafe, but these were built to withstand heavy rain rather than an encroaching ocean. Storm surges would cause large segments of the city to be flooded with sewage (including some of the freshwater plumbing), and serious disease outbreaks would follow.
These issues were enabled/exacerbated by earthquakes (the region is geologically active and this isn't unusual) that further damaged and mingled the sewage and freshwater systems. One earthquake and its subsequent tidal wave was a turning point, and the resulting breakdown of (already strained) infrastructure rendered a large swath of the city uninhabitable in the space of about a week. This also just caused immediate damage to much of the city's architecture/walls, and collapsed the tower of the temple to Inanariya (never a good sign). This is when the full exodus began, first with people flocking to un-flooded parts of its city and farmlands, and those who could afford it fully relocating to other cities/towns.
All of this issues were compounded by the 1st Burri Empire already being in a period of collapse at this time. This was largely a matter of simple overextension. Its borders were constantly under attack by rival states/its victims, sometimes with great success. Bur's own population had burgeoned well past what the imperial core land could sustain, and its cities relied predominantly on extraction of foreign grain/goods to feed their people. It lost most of its eastern land holdings in a fairly rapid timespan (overextended with wars at multiple fronts), which caused frequent famines in its core.
This put pressure on its final emperors to invest in increasingly desperate expansionist projects, while attempting to keep up public morale with lavish public works and objectively stupid vanity projects. The attempt to excavate a canal at the Viper seaway's 'tail' (one of the few eastern regions it retained secure control of at that point) was in part a desperate act to revive its economy by opening up/monopolizing a new trade system. The amount of money and manpower sunk into this ultimately doomed project was followed by Bur being fully ousted from its eastern holdings, and was one of the final straws in its collapse.
People in the city of Bur proper were dealing with the double front of starvation and their homes + streets + immediate water supply being flooded with seawater and literal human feces. These issues impacted the lower classes first and most severely, but ultimately transcended class boundaries. Famine grew more and more rampant, not only with the loss of the colonial holdings that supported the population but of farmland in the imperial core- much of the city of Bur's immediate farmlands were unproductive due to repeat inundation with saltwater during surges, and the farmland along the Yamage river to the north was rapidly being captured and pillaged by the Hsem (historical enemies, a nomadic group with a khait warrior culture from further west).
All this was fucking unlivable in of itself, but also had very obvious implications in the context of Burri emperors also being high priests and the chief intermediary between the gods and the people. Not only was the government failing to sustain its citizens to begin with, but signs of divine disapproval were deeply apparent.
So the last days of the 1st Burri empire were a chaotic period of civil unrest, most acute in and around city of Bur proper. This involved near-constant peasant revolts and several attempted coups. The last Burri emperor (of the First empire) ultimately fled the capital of Bur and reestablished in Titenegal, declaring it the new capital. This was then sacked by the Hsem within a year and after that it was fucking Joever.
The city of Bur was functionally abandoned by this point. People still Lived There and there were several attempts to set up a new government, all of which failed in the short term. After the collapse was complete, its inhabitants were mostly just peasants who built up new homes further inland and sustained themselves on the remaining farmland. Few people lived permanently in the city proper due to all of its intact infrastructure being effectively non-functional without the governmental bodies/human labor to sustain it.
---
It should also be noted that it was Extremely not just Bur that was flooded, the sea level rise was worldwide (resulting from a collapsing ice sheet) and almost Every coastal city during this period experienced the same issue. Bur's demise was just notably dramatic in that it was once the most heavily populated human city that has Ever Existed, and directly correlated with the fall of the empire it hosted.
The flooding was fairly gradual, but it's been 7 centuries since the first Burri empire's collapse and the fall of its capital city, and many contemporary records were lost to the immediate chaos and to the large span of time since. Cultural memory tends to reframe the flood VERY rapid on a human scale, many of the stories describe the city being swallowed in a single wave as an act of divine punishment (the popular notion at the time that the last emperors deeply displeased and shamed the gods has stuck into the narrative, often exaggerated into stories of them being horrifically debauched blasphemers guilty of the worst disgraces imaginable). Even more conservative accounts tend to imagine the totality of the destruction taking place over the span of about a year (merging the memories of the immediate earthquake devastation with more gradual elements of its slow flooding). People widely believe that most of its residents drowned in the city's cataclysmic demise, and that the ruins are now Extremely haunted.
The state of the flooding is not 'completely under the sea' and you can still walk/wade through most of the inland ruins (the canal district is effectively submerged, with most structures that Would be above the water level having collapsed against the strain). As such, some people Do Live Here. These people are mostly smugglers and pirates using the ruins as a hideout, and/or opportunistic hunters and fishermen who won't let ghosts stop them. Entering the city ruins is currently forbidden (largely Because of the criminal nature of basically every motive to go here (even hunting, which is considered poaching)), but enforcement of this rule/active patrols to prevent entry are inconsistent.
The majority of Old Bur's inhabitants are animals. The un-flooded parts of the city and its gardens are now a host to a thriving community of native plants and animals (and a few descendants of escaped non-native zoo animals/ornamental plants that adapted well to the conditions).

The egret shown here is a foreign species originally brought as an ornamental bird. In the centuries since its first import, it has become widespread and occurs on both sides of the Mouth seaway. It can hunt in both freshwater and saline environments, and a very large population lives permanently in the ruins of Old Bur.
Its common name is the ghost egret. Contemporary Burri folklore holds that the ghost egrets of Old Bur are literal ghosts, carrying the souls of those who died in the cataclysmic floods.
#[[JUST REALIZED you didn't even fucking. ask about the timeline of the flooding I just kinda went for it]]#[[its relevant to its contemporary state I guess????]]]#Added the photo without linking to the original post becasue it is WILDLY outdated.#Among other things I cited the population of the original city of Bur at 'over a million people'. Which is contextually ridiculous#Also (because this probably gets confusing) everything here describes the first of two empires out of Bur which was by far#the larger one. The second had a similar pattern in its downfall (overextension - famines at home - war and revolts at multiple fronts)#but was significantly less dramatic and had a much cleaner rebound (it ended in a successful coup that the contemporary#Burri Republic directly descends from)#I used to describe 3 Burri empires which. I don't know why I did that because the 1st of the three was an ANCIENT land empire#stemming from further west where contemporary Bur was its easternmost extent of Conquered lands. This collapsed like ~1500+#years before present and has no directly obvious impact on modern conditions whatsoever (it DID have major impacts#though: it's what first brought khait to this region and some of its ancient roads are still used in the largest continuous land#trade network in the northern hemisphere)

I was prompted to post these a bit ago bc of my madness posting abt the Xiyao laundry audioextra upload someone posted like last week and I think there is really a lot there in the Xiyao laundry thing in general (hashtag release the Yunping tapes) and not all of it is smth I see ~talked abt as much as I think it deserves SO . Collected thoughts on Xiyao laundry
OK so like Yeah they're cute. I absolutely get why people's primary reaction to this is that it's cute and I think this is not even wrong. The politics of uselessness r complicated and I Will be returning to this but a legitimate angle of this is that LXC, who has spent his life largely defined by the fact that he pretty much excels at everything expected of him, has nothing expected of him and gets to be incompetent at something he ~feels obligated to do and have that not actually be a fail state, still get offered the same kindness regardless of his ability to be exceedingly capable/responsible etc.; meanwhile MY, who historically has had pretty much no one ever gaf about whether he's struggling or overworked or generally about him as a person (and the audiodrama extra version even has a bit where MY's coworkers are shit talking him including talking abt how he's probably not even actually doing any work), has someone earnestly caring about that, if ineffectually, and materially recognizing his workload as important and effortful and trying to help him with it. That is I think legitimately kind of sweet! Especially if one interprets the "he didn't even know who I was" line as true and as in the audiodrama extra this is set b4 MY figures it out! They appreciate each other in ways they don't usually get to be appreciated and it's nontransactional in this way and ;x;
HOWEVER. #Nuance. There's Other Angles.
I've talked abt this before inc on my blog but I do kind of never get tired of thinking abt it: there's a reason LXC is incapable of doing laundry and it's not just inexperience it's that he is physically incapable of the task bc of his cultivator strength!!!!! And the disparity of cultivation level is explicitly a class thing w/ JGY wrt 3zun especially!!! No matter his intention Zewu-jun CANNOT SULLY HIS HANDS WITH THE TASK bangs my head against a wall. It's such an innocuous detail yet it captures how from even this early on in their relationship and in this context it's not ignorable how much LXC is in fact a nobleman where JGY is not and this is a literal physical difference and it's in his very flesh and it has explicitly destructive results. See again vampire AU posting
And going off that it's notable how this does in fact also end up creating more work and while MY doesn't begrudge that in the moment and it's pettier here and arguably inextricable with the first point (LXC is not only incapable here he's actively bad at something, he actively makes smth worse and he's forgiven for it and that's genuinely kind of nice) it's it's also worth noting more grimly given how their relationship ends. It's not just destructive it's destructive to MY specifically
And on the notes of "inextricable from first point but also tragic" – it's sweet tht LXC gets no external consequences for this (yet lol) but is that really something he can Accept. It is an arguably underexamined element of Sunshot Xiyao how fucking miserable LXC is; he might be in an environment where this isn't fucking him up but he did bring his complexes here and you don't suddenly know how to accept that kind of grace yknow – and, and this is tangentially related to the stuff I was posting earlier today, this is one of the first of several kinds of vulnerability that LXC's almost only able to experience with MY/JGY. Considering how much that's arguably a running theme for them and considering where that leads that's also quite Foreshadowing Dismal!!
This is an audio drama exclusive but the way in the audiodrama extra ver that MY realizes who LXC is here and then ~lies about it is also crunchy as helllllll
AND between the coworkers thing in the audiodrama extra and the added scenes in the donghua and this and the notion in general (which comes from MXTX's post) that it's important they do the laundry themselves bc the robes would give LXC away it's a highlight of how genuinely precarious this is for MY which is another thing that both makes it more sweet and more. Despair.
It's just so lovely how it is both indicative of how genuinely good they are to and for each other, the ways in which they're meaningfully and significantly compassionate and helpful to one another, and also of the ways in which their situation here is precarious and high-stress and dangerous as fuck, AND also the ways in which they hurt each other so so bad, and how all of those things are largely different facets of the same qualities and the same significances. And That's My Post. Stream Apple Pie by the Scary Jokes
#Xiyao#Lan Xichen#Jin Guangyao#Another one where I want to Talk About It very bad so if anyone has things to say (positive negative neutral tangential) plsssss do#I posted this in part bc the now mutual who prompted me I had just had a lovely conversation abt LXC with in the replies#of another post I made. Let's frolic together yay yay yay#This is unedited and mostly off the cuff. However I will stand by it#Also. When I say the politics of uselessness are complicated I mean ~contextually and in MDZS in general not really as undermining tht poin#I do believe very hard in the right to be useless. As a useless thing#It's just a whole thing to discuss is uselessness in MDZS. Class and ability and such all relevant. I should talk about this but Another Po

OH YOUR VERLAINE AND RIMBAUD POSTS AND THE TENDENCY OF ASAGIRI TO FLIP FLOP THE MENTOR/MENTEE OR ADMIRED AND HOW RIMBAUD WAS THE YOUNGER ONE BUT IN BSD VERLAINE WAS SOCIALIZED BY RIMBAUD
With Rimbaud and Verlaine, it's worth remembering that bsd!Rimbaud is Verlaine. His skill is Illuminations, but he gave Black #12 his birth name, Paul Verlaine. bsd!Verlaine was not originally named Rimbaud, but his youth, passions, and duality are Rimbaudian, while bsd!Rimbaud's more coddling temperament, at times paternal and at times impassioned, and last sentiments for bsd!Verlaine, are seemingly references to irlVerlaine's poetry about irl!Rimbaud. (Such as Watercolors: Green, an English translation of which I shared in a separate post.)
Notably, Verlaine published Illuminations on Rimbaud's behalf and influenced the content and arrangement that was published. His legacy is often related more to his relationship with and publication of Rimbaud than his own poetry, according to the journal articles I've been reading. bsd!Verlaine's Brutalization incantation also comes from Arthur Rimbaud's Les Sœurs De Charité.
But the bsd iterations of Rimbaud and Verlaine aren't wholly distinct either, each carrying fragments of the other, sometimes blurring together. That, too, is a homage to the philosophies of the irl!poets. For example, Rimbaud, at times, writes from Verlaine's perspective in Une Saison en Enfer.

Rimbaud's poetry is also marked for its dialogic perspective-shifting, and he wrote through and lived within a philosophy of ambiguity, duality, and self dissection (at least during his youth):

irl!Verlaine, too, had a dual personality at times:

So, I don't think Asagiri flip/flopped Rimbaud and Verlaine's roles; I think he's commentating on, illustrating, and interpreting where their poetry, legacies, and passions became thoroughly entangled, as filtered and processed through bsd's themes. I think Asagiri enjoys plucking tragedy from reality and asking, "What would it have taken for them to have found reason and purpose absent any?"
That said, I also don't think Asagiri is ever really inversing mentor/mentee roles, even in regard to Akutagawa and Dazai. irl!Akutagawa was not irl!Dazai's mentor, he was a profound influence who lived and wrote just prior to the era of modern Japanese literature in which Osamu Dazai made in his name. I think Asagiri is commenting on (i) where they were deeply alike in mind and heart, which is why Dazai found solace and reflections of himself in Akutagawa, and (ii) on the stylistic dexterity Dazai could have lent to Akutagawa had he been in the position to do so, specifically regarding the way Dazai intepreted the I-novel genre through perversions of the truth as a means for expressing sincerity and gut-wrenchingly raw autobiographical candor without flaying himself apart the way Akutagawa seemed to when bullied into confessional literature by the cultural zeitgeist.
(Akutagawa was criticized for his sharp brilliance since the era was consumed with confessional literature, in comparison to which Akutagawa's stylistic precision seemed to many distant and aloof. Parasocialism is older than Christ, and BookTok is a descendent, not the progenitor, of corrosively vapid takes.)
The choices in bsd are playful but sincere inquiries into + conversations with the works, legacies, emotional turmoils, and overwhelming humanity of the referenced authors. But, while I think there's immense profundity in call and response, especially across eras, literary cultures, and artistic mediums, I also think Asagiri is more consumed by revelations than reflections.
I'm also not so sure whether we can call Rimbaud socialized by any contemporary connotation of the word—

#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bsd rimbaud#bsd verlaine#rimlaine#irl rimbaud was absolutely feral#i know what youre trying to say re: socialized#but i dont think that meaning has any relevance here either#rimbaud was young but he was hardly malleable or impressionable#he was distinctly abrasive to and defiant of influences he didnt himself pluck to be absorbed#such as absinthe and french symbolism#i know there's an urge to contextualize him as a teenager because he very much was one#but there is a lot that we generalize about teenagers and children and any group really#that become useless at best and harmful at worst if we try to force their fit when considering individuals rather than broad approximations#same when trying to apply what we know of individuals to broadly approximate groups

Fun fact about me, the way I discovered fanfiction was in the Year of Our Lord 2014 via Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons and the first fic I ever read was a fucking. Jack Frost x Hermione Granger RotBRD fic that no longer exists where Hermione’s parents die in a fucking car crash. can i tell you all about my conspiracy theory that roberto chose to do heathers as the season 3 riverdale musical specifically to SEO-bomb and suppress out of google-documented existence that horrible right-wing heathers 2018 miniseries that was developed as probably the most blatantly contemptuous cash-grab riverdale rip-off of all time so far

heathers the edgy tv reboot was essentially the evil (straight, boomer-oriented) version of riverdale that tvland funded. it came out in 2018, was hated by everyone and undoubtedly flooded the riverdale media team's google alerts during its whole short and notorious run
and nowdays. well. guess how many qualifiers you have to add to your google search to find reviews of that horrible 2018 heathers reboot where all the minorities were the real bullies because they could cancel people. it's a lot of qualifiers if you don't want to just see chapter fifty-one: big fun
#watching it now with katie bc i can't stand the thought of watching something i have to try to like that isn't riverdale#it's so terrible#anyway. we shouldn't lose this contextual riverdale lore#it's so relevant now when we are once again reminded about roberto's pettiness and interest in schemes and long games and contrivances#it's amazing that someone could try to make riverdale and notice so many details about its style but miss the mark so so badly#like it's so bad and so hateful. the hatefulness really can't be understated this show is a meme about librul snowflakes#and it has a character who is such a jughead knockoff but the kind of jughead knockoff your worst older relative would design#would love to get the jughead nation's takes on 4chan guy weird weirdo JD from heathers (2018) tbh. i'm obsessed with how much he bothers m

My Thoughts: Young Sheldon 7x02 A Roulette Wheel and a Piano Playing Dog
Look how cute he is! Cute as a button! 😙 Awwww! Baby! It is so difficult for me to watch Sheldon struggling. Imagine being a fish out of water your entire life where your one socially acceptable trait is your intellect, which surpasses everyone’s, only to be thrown into A WHOLE OTHER COUNTRY, taking the fish metaphor to a whole other level, only to discover THE one quiver in your arsenal is utterly moot.
Damn. My poor baby string bean! But he handled it so well. He pushed through! I am proud of my Shelly! It is the aspect of why YS is better than TBBT because they allow for Sheldon to be a more complex individual and don’t treat him like a child, even though he is literally a child. The show allows circumstances to push against him, to make him stronger, and the narrative isn’t constantly belittling him as if he can’t handle life at all. It is actually quite a big deal that Sheldon was able to keep his mouth shut and humbled himself under an authority in order to learn what he needed to. And he did this by HIS choice! He listened to what those around him where telling him, and chose the wiser path. He didn’t have to be coerced, manipulated, or browbeaten into it, which was often the route TBBT took.
Well, his tutor DID use physical reinforcement, but a wrap on the hand is good for the boy. 😁
Which brings me into my next thought, I don’t think this moving back and forth from Texas and Germany is going to work really well for the storytelling. I want to see how the whole Cooper family is doing, of course, but I am primarily watching this show for Sheldon! I don’t feel like they are able to spend the amount of time necessary to really explore this experience he is having. It feels so rushed. I don’t like it. I want more time to process Sheldon’s life lessons here and how he is feeling about it. It is the same old story! This is literally one of the biggest problems with American media.
They. never. give. enough. time. to. the. story. EVER. !!!!!
🤦♀️ Why are you the way that you are, American Media. I hate so much everything that you choose to be.
Anyway, I did love the heart to heart chat between Missy and Georgie this episode! That was so sweet! They are learning what it means to have responsibilities and that growing up requires so much thankless sacrifice. I love the bond that Missy and Georgie have, and I am glad we got to see them process this experience together. And way to go Missy for not only stepping up, growing up, and being so mature and on top of things, but she also is learning about boundaries! Damn girl! 🔥 I know Mary Cooper loves serving her family so I love that aspect about her, but the boys definitely shouldn’t leave all the house stuff to the women folk, as if they have to be served and waited on. Missy is killing it! 💪
Missy and Sheldon, two sides of the same coin! I hope to talk more about that later! 😉 Now it’s time for...
My Favorite Sheldon Cooper Quotes: Sheldon: "And they laughed at me for not knowing something they knew! Who does that?!" Mary: ". . . you do." Sheldon: "This is no time for a teachable moment! Your child is hurting." Mary: "Sorry." *pats him on the arm* "There there." Sheldon: "I guess that'll do. Now how about a hot beverage?" Mary: 😑
Sheldon: “Oh! I see the problem! This is stupid! You can’t just invent dimensions. There is this one, this one, and this one.” Mei-Tung: “You forgot the dimension of time.” Sheldon: . . . Sheldon: *holds out his hand* Mei-Tung: *slaps it with a pencil* Sheldon: “Ow! . . . Thank you." Sheldon Prime: "I wanted to give up and runaway. But I had read enough comic books to know that heroes don't quit. Instead of running I decided to stay and face the biggest challenge I've ever had: keeping my mouth shut. This turned out to be a pivotal moment in my life. By being open to people smarter than me, I grew as both a man and a scientist. Humble. Brilliant. I really am the whole package!"
#and the boy's not wrong#sheldon cooper#young sheldon#my thoughts#my sheldon cooper thoughts#I loved the piano playing dog reference#although the dog reference is unfortunate#I hated when TBBT compared him to a dog#but this is more contextually relevant#iain armitage#missy cooper#the cooper family#7x02#A Roulette Wheel and a Piano Playing Dog#yes I used an office reference in a young sheldon review

so, there's this bit from Chapter 1 in the castle prison, where Ralsei asks us to think about Susie and we watch the fight with Susie and Lancer, etc; it returns to this scene here

given recent chapter context... was it ever confirmed this specific sentence was about the Susie scene? because the two don't exactly line up. it's more like Ralsei (and maybe Kris) was talking while we weren't looking.
(edit: they're also standing in a different spot, for whatever that's worth 🫵)
#deltarune#deltarune chapter 1#deltarune ralsei#deltarune kris#it's early enough in story and vague enough contextually for later story stuff that I'm not gonna tag spoilers ok? ok👍#spark talks about nothing of relevance

Random note before I force myself into the WIP I don't want to look at again
The Emperor, when it comes to directly stated positive opinions, doesn't even scratch the top 5 of people Ilztaun would believe. And he only gets away with this due to it being more based in his own bizare trust issues and with the only people who can say something and have him believe it the first time are
Minthara, Jaheira, Lae'zel, Dame Aylin, Karlach, and finally Gale. but Gale only after having the 'do.not.kill.yourself.' conversation in act 2, and really only has the one time....but uses it well when he does.
#He also has some deeply ingrained sexism that he doesn't notice enough to unpack but that's besides the point#this is only relevant once or twice mind you. one of which he gets very smug about it.#the other less so. but anyway....#.....He trusts mean women so much....#and also Dame Aylin and Karlach but one is contextual and the other is more complicated#but Karlach kinda just doesn't fuck with him from showing up at a bad time for not immediately seeing through anything

Honest to god I don't get the use of TMA. Like by default it's weird to identify by who doesn't or does hate you but even besides that, isn't it the same to just say transfem? Like I'd imagine that this as another branch of misogyny is rooted deeply into society and the system so technically no transfem would be exempt from it.
#luly talks#like its so weird to have it as a introductory label. it'd be relevant if we're discussing oppression but. i think i can take a guess on#that by contextual clues y'know.

Relationships aren't always roses and frills. Woe post of flaws be upon ye
Unfortunately, there's no amount of learning to communicate better that makes it always completely smooth sailing. Stretch is fickle and locks up, and Edge will just entirely avoid things depending on what the issue is, and what's upsetting either or both.
Stretch really isn't a talker by nature, at least not about his own problems. It's one of his biggest hurdles to overcome when opening up to someone, and even then there are times he just...can't. Pressing or coaxing, from either party, usually just ends with Stretch snapping angrily or slipping into a pretty serious avoidant depressive state.
Also why he struggles to get into therapy. It's like the more negative the feelings brought on by it are, the harder it gets to find words or verbalize at all. It can be incredibly frustrating and overwhelming.
And while Edge has certainly come to understand this about Stretch, he can also be very...difficult to read at times. Depending on mood or cause of a dip, a wide variety of things can help. But unfortunately that also means a wide variety of things can hurt if Edge doesn't read the situation correctly.
His mother hen type nature can exacerbate this more so, because Edge really struggles with letting someone he cares about deal with something on their own. Especially if he’s not fully confident it's actually helping them, which it doesn't always for Stretch.
As for Edge.
To put it bluntly, Edge is sensitive. Once he’s opened himself up to someone, it is ten million times easier to hurt him. And wounds tend to linger. What makes it worse is that, rather than frustrate him and turn into a grudge of sorts, usually, regardless of how angry or upset he had been at the time, his mind will mold it back around and he will see it as a failing on his end, to at least some degree.
His mind runs on a bit of a feedback loop, and when something "fails", he internalizes it. Tries to recalibrate. In a perpetual state of learning and adapting, which isn't always good. He’s essentially trying to shape himself into whatever "works best" for the situation, in this case, the relationship, and that means even if it's not necessarily what works best for him.
Coincidentally, a large part of why he avoids and represses things. Anything he suspects could be a point of conflict, well, if he never acknowledges it, then it'll never be an issue, right? And it's honestly more subconscious than anything, stemming from it being ground into his mind from a very young age to only ever really openly acknowledge "important" and "relevant" things, and to keep everything else to himself as much as possible.
Given how important honesty is to Stretch, obviously this is a point of contention in and of itself. But because of the whole "sensitive" thing, he really has to find ways to...not be angry at Edge. Not to an unhealthy degree, but coming at Edge in a state of frustration is not going to end in either of them bettering the situation.
Of course, this also leads to Stretch sometimes needing time away to calm down and try to figure the actual root of the problem, how to approach it and address it in a clearer way. But when he does this in a bad mood, especially if in the middle of/end of an argument, Edge gets very, incredibly stressed. No matter how frustrated he gets with Stretch, he hates upsetting him, and so when Stretch ejects like that, even though they've both come to learn why and its importance, he gets incredibly worked up.
Depending on what the conflict was over, he gets very frustrated and has to work out the anger, or he becomes deeply self flagellating, mentally punishing himself for how badly he handled the situation or if he feels he was the cause.
Stretch of course isn't a stranger to being overly critical of himself, either, but the way both of them are self destructive is quite different. It didn't take long for Stretch to realize when Edge gets in a headspace like that it can literally be detrimental to how he will perceive their conflicts or relationship overall going forward.
If it was not very clear by this point, they both have a very significant problem with trying to prioritize the other to even their own detriment, which the other is usually aware of and only fucking. Ouroboroses the situation.
They both deeply resent being a strain on the other, but sometimes toes are stepped on. Sometimes they argue. Sometimes they say something that hurts the other and it happens. It happens in every relationship. And they are both frankly terrible at accepting this.
Thankfully though, Edge usually does wind up in therapy. And thanks to that and Stretch and educating himself more on his own time, and Stretch coming to realize a lot of his own bad behaviors usually wind up hurting Edge, too, they've both become a lot more self aware, and work on these things at their own paces.
As for some less serious flaws.
Stretch is really easily bothered by "scraping" noises, so sometimes Edge's cooking makes him want to scream. Not always. But the sound of the knife on a cutting board, silverware on ceramic dishes, etc etc. Edge also grinds his teeth sometimes, which falls into the same category. Luckily he can usually dissuade him from it with kisses.
Stretch likes all colours. All of them. Even the ugly ones that Edge knows will clash terribly but it's Stretch's house too and if he really. Really wants that god awful rug well. Then maybe they can just put it in a room he will not be spending much time in. This reaches beyond home furnishings of course.
Edge's strange tastes in music can be deeply antagonistic for Stretch but he won't say so because he loves when Edge vibes to music while he cooks or bakes or cleans and he doesn't wanna take that away from him. Even if he does have to sometimes wear headphones in his own dang house to block out whatever travesty Edge put on.
Stretch loves fireworks. Fireworks deeply upset Edge. Even though Edge tells him to go off and enjoy fireworks with friends on the relevant holidays, Stretch insists on staying with him to help him stay calm.
Stretch loves to repeat stupid phrases he picked up online. Sometimes they are extremely stupid. And Edge has to accept the fact he will do it in public.
Edge puts off ungodly amounts of heat for one single monster. He is also extremely cuddly and takes it personally when Stretch won't snuggle with him. This can make summer difficult, at times.
Stretch is a teaser by nature, and Edge is usually fine with it...but. Sometimes the line gets crossed a little, and neither are happy about it.
They sometimes bicker for fun. Sometimes it becomes a little too real and they wind up actually a little annoyed at each other. Usually it's fixed with laughing about how stupid it was and kissing <3
#they make me so very unwell#typically they really don't actually argue or have serious conflicts almost ever#they *might butt heads every now and then but they really are doin pretty well most of the time#spicyhoney#papship#papcest#sns thoughts...#didn't post last night bc weird headspace but it became contextually relevant lol
