Figuring Out My Phone Use
I keep struggling to write this because it keeps going long. Maybe I'll write an essay on it someday. But for now here are some paradigms and changes that are helping me renegotiate my relationship with my phone. This is Android focused but I think there are things Apple users might be able to glean.
Paradigm Shifts
In the 00's the wellness industry fixated on weight and we're entering an era where it'll focus on screen time and phones. Conspicuous consumption of wellness alternatives is incoming - victim blaming to follow.
Companies profit off of me using my phone in certain ways and they profit off of me being anxious about using my phone too much. Using my phone in ways that don't drive profit for them and being relaxed/unashamed about my phone usage is key.
What would I buy to replace what I use my phone for? That's now what my phone is for - everything else can come off of it.
Consuming more products to "fix" issues with my phone should be done sparingly, ideally as a last resort. I can start with what I have/where I am.
Rules for My Phone
Nothing with infinite scroll
Nothing news focused
Where possible, no ads
These rules are born out of experimentation. They're my technology intolerances. The same way I don't eat gluten because it makes me break out in hives and I'm stuck in bed for a week, I don't use infinite scroll because I wind up brain fogged and extremely irritable.
My advice would be to note when you feel crappy after tech use and see what aspects of it were involved.
My Phone Set Up
I am using an older phone (Samsung, 2020) running Android. I use minimalist phone as my launcher - 10/10 would recommend. I bought the lifetime tier and haven't regretted it. Their customer service has been very helpful in my experience.
I've styled it a bunch of different ways but this is my current set up

I made a custom green theme, because I love green, but they have several dark and light modes that come stock. So don't let my taste put you off of it.
I decided the main things I would buy to replace my phone were a phone, camera, ereader, ipod, and some sort of gaming device. I also have a family Discord server I use to keep up with my parents and siblings and Anylist is the glue keeping my household together.
So that's what guided what I kept visible, especially on the home screen. I have the phone icon set to open Signal which is my messaging app of choice. Camera icon opens the camera. Swiping up automatically opens a search engine which I have set to DuckDuckGo - highly recommend.
I've renamed the apps so the focus is on what I use them for - and I gave them little heart icons for the cute factor. I have a large micro SD card and the music and books I use are stored locally - we canceled Spotify and most other streaming. So everything I use in that regard, I load on to it with my computer - not difficult to do at all.
Everything else that didn't get pulled off with the three rules above and I wanted to hang on to went into the heart folder at the top of the second picture. I can still type their names into the search bar to find them. Minimalist phone allows me to rename apps so if I keep typing in the wrong thing, I can just change the name - so handy.
I have most Google products disabled and hidden - meaning they won't pop up if I search for them. I'm working on switching to Proton - which yes I know has it's own issues but still would likely work better for what I want. I probably will not keep email on my phone when I switch. If I need a QR code, I'll just screenshot it on my laptop and message it to myself.
I wanted to make my games visible so I play them more. I don't mind winding down with one of these. They're not ones I tend to binge. I play a few rounds/days and I'm done. It's a nice way to wind down.
If I had to have mobile only social media or other problem apps for work - I'd ether be asking for a company phone or I'd find a cheapish secondhand one and put it on that so I can put it away when I don't need it. But that's me.
Hope this gets gears turning for someone out there. I've had a version of this set up for a couple weeks and love it. I hope you find what works for you.

I like to think Peter had a backpack on him with all his important stuff. He probably knew that they wouldnt be returning to the base so he made the effort to pack a bag with his stuff and maybe some of the others things. The others probably made one too with their things but not as big as Peters bag since he can hold more without feeling strained and cause hes sentimental like that.
I can see Bucky making a quick military bag with only the basics so Peter has to pack some of his stuff into his. He dosent mind.
With this in Mind, Here a list of whats in Peters backpack.
-A DVD set of the original Star Wars Trilogy, The Prequels and TFA. (He dosent like thinking about TLJ)
-A hand held Videocamera and a Photography camera, each in their own protective cases
-Noise canceling headphones
-A small comic book colletion he maneged to build through out the months (Old Penut strips, missalanious incomplet comics, a decent Invincible collection and the Walking dead lol)
- His laptop with all of his Zombie research and saved videos and pictures hes taken during to 8 months
- A photo album he maneged to get in his on his one and only visit to his apartment. It has old pictures of May, Ben and his parents when they were younger. Some kid photos of himself with them and somemore recent ones with May and Ned. He had been adding a few more photos of other people that he finds online and with the others during their time together. Its nice to have a fisical memory of them
-One of May's sweaters that he also snaged
-Bens Watch. He dosent wear it, he just has it
-His Fathers glasses. Same with Ben, He dosent wear them, but its nice to have them
-A plushie his mother made for him as a child that somehow is still around
- An Ironman glove he stole frim of of the suits
- A crappy busted gameboy he found that he frankinstined into being able to have like 200 games hacked into it
- A hacked Ipod with like 10000 songs he downloded onto it on a whim at 3a.m the night before
-A Few notebooks filled with a mad mans rambling and formulas on anything and everything, not trustung his laptop after it deleted all his data a few months before
-Miscellaneous bits of Tech stolen from here and there and a box filled with the chemicals for his web fluids
-Couple of his and Buckys clothes so that they dont have to only be wearing their suits
-One of Bucky Jackets Peter knows he likes and would regret leaving behind
-A few of books Bucky has gathers in their time together
-A box of plain Ramen cups and bags of spices for the ones with that need to eat more
-Just a bag of stray candy
-A supersolder friendly med kit made for him and Bucky after one to many incedents
- A water filter and gas mask for the more toxic areas
-A Knife Bucky left behind
-His ID just incase something happend to him and he needed to be identifyed
-A few thousand dollers Krut and him took for funzzies one time while looking for food. He dosent need it, but his they somehow ended up is somekind of civilication, he wants to have some money on him for everyone
-The hat that was part of his Indiana Jones costume
-An extra thick bedroll Hope made him pack
-And last but not least his shitty phone that only last him like 3 hours
He tried putting everything into his normal backpack, but Happy forced him into using a bigger one that wouldnt break and helped play tetriz with everything
Peter had the backpack when he fell from the Plane.

C/W ::: In NO particular order ::: Soft, sweet. Kats and y/n missing each other. Turns to more than soft and sweet. Mild masturbation mentions, mutual masturbation -> F!orgasm, P->V, recording herself for Kats, a fun little set up that's been bubbling around in my mind for a couple of weeks now. They're happily ever after whatever.
WC ::: 2123
Proofread one or twice. Sorry if I missed anything horrific.
Katsuki was out of town on a week long mission. He had been gone for almost 4 days now and you missed him so much it hurt. He missed you, too. Your touch, your smile, and the sound of your voice. But what you sent him made him miss you even more.
He was just getting into his room for the day. You'd messaged him earlier that you were going to send him something. But you were going to wait until he was in for the night. You both knew he couldn't wait to watch it until he was in for the evening. So you told him to let you know when to send it (for real - not 'oh yeah, I'm totally in my room now, babe.').
"Hi Kats. I know you're not going to be home for 3 more days or so. But I miss you, baby. I miss you ... so, so much. So I thought that I could do a little something for you. Y'know, just in case you miss me, too. I hope y'like it. I hope you come home soon. I love you so much an' I miss you more, baby. Come back to me quick, Kats. I fucking love you so much, Dynamight."
You left the camera on top of the dresser as you went out of the shot to change into a set of bright orange lingerie. You remember him saying once how he loved the color against your skin.
You started to record the video in front of a mirror, so he could see your whole body moving beautifully to the music (to his favorite song). Your hips swayed to the beat, your ass jiggled with every movement, and your tits bounced deliciously.
Katsuki was already feeling himself getting flustered. He reached down and pushed the growing tent in his pants back as best he could, imagining it was your hand reaching to touch him as he watched you dance. You were so fucking hot to him, and he wanted nothing more than to be with you right now.
He was so pissed that he was the one who had to be sent on this stupid task. But it was all part of the job. Katsuki knew this. It still made him mad that he had to watch you through the screen of his phone (though he'd watch it on the tiny screen of an iPod if he had no other options).
He unzipped his pants and pulled his hard cock out, giving it a few strokes while he watched you dance for him. He imagined you on your knees in front of him, sucking and licking him as he ran his fingers through your hair and brushed your cheek with his fingertips.
You danced around in front of the camera some more and you continued talking to him.
"Do you remember the night we met? It was in July and god, it was so hot outside. We were out with our friends. You with yours and me with mine. And I saw you pouting in the corner. You looked like a kid who was just put in a time-out."
You laughed as you recalled the memory and then your smile dropped. You missed him so much right now. So much more than you have ever before when he's out on a job.
"Kats, I miss you so much. I don't know if I can wait for you to come home, baby." You shook yourself out and got back to swinging your hips around for him. "I have a confession to make, I watched you so closely that night. I needed to run into you. So I watched and waited for you to head to the bar and I walked up to stand next to you and said 'I'll have what he's having' and the bartender handed me an ice water."
He snorted out a laugh as the memory surfaced for him. "Tch, that dumbass gave you one of those stupid umbrellas and a mashed cherry 'n I sent that shit right back and told him to fix it." He stopped stroking himself at the thought of first meeting you. It made his heart ache, your absence was hitting him harder than it usually does this time around, too.
You continued, "Anyway, the crappy little umbrella and the cherry that looked like it'd been through a round or 2 with a blender. You had such a hissy fit about that for me. Oh man, and you were so pissed when I told you I didn't even like cherries."
You stopped dancing and got right in the lens of the camera and just talked to him.
"When I finally convinced you that I didn’t give a shit about the stupid cherry, you loosened up a bit and started talking with me instead of just at me, hah! I knew right then, that night, I knew that I was going to fall for you. Did you know you were going to fall for me, too, Kats? What are you doing right now? Are you ... touching yourself? What are you thinking about?"
You backed away from the camera and he let out a low growl when he saw you'd taken your bra off.
"Call me, Kats. Call me right now, baby. Please ... I need to hear your voice."
You had been waiting for this. And the call you'd been hoping for finally, finally came. You smiled to yourself knowing that he was watching the little clip you'd sent him and that he was at the part where you told him to call you. You couldn't wait to talk to him.
"Hi." You said.
"I'm thinking about how you taste, babe. Your lips, your neck, your pussy."
You shivered at his words and you started to feel that familiar tingling sensation between your legs. "Kats, you know I can't help myself when you talk dirty like that."
"Yeah? You getting wet for me? Show me, baby."
You took your phone off speaker and put it up to your ear. "Hold on a sec, Kats. I just gotta get comfy."
You moved to the bed and pulled your panties off. "Okay, baby. I'm ready for you."
"Good, I'm so ready for you. I've been hard since I opened that video. You look so fucking hot. And then you told me to call you. Fuck, you're so sexy."
You could hear the sound of him stroking himself through the phone. It turned you on so much that you couldn't help but moan as your fingers slipped between your thighs.
"Wan' you so bad, Kats." You whined. "I miss your cock, baby. I miss your hands on me. I miss your lips on my skin. I miss the way you make me feel. I miss everything about you, Kats. Fuck, I'm so wet."
"Yeah? Tell me what you're doing, babe. Tell me how it feels."
"I'm rubbing my clit, Kats. It feels so good, baby." You moaned into the phone and you heard him moan back at you.
"You getting close, babe? You gonna cum for me? I wanna hear it, I want you to cum for me right now."
"I-I'm close, Kats. Oh fuck, I'm so close." A beeping in the background started and you groaned and told him to hold on a second, that you had something to take care of really quick. "Baby, don't move a muscle. Don't go anywhere, ok? I'll be right back."
He looked so sad as you put the phone down.
"Right ... back," you said.
He nodded.
His head shot up at the knock on his door. "NO, no thank you. I don't need towels or ... I don't need anything. BYE! Fuckin' read the sign on the door. Do not disturb. Fuck's sake."
Another knock. He was getting pissed. He pulled his pants up and dropped his phone on the bed, and then he went to the door and yanked it open.
"What the actual fuck is your problem?" He shouted. "Can't you see I'm ---" he stopped when he saw you standing there, holding your coat open, wearing the same lingerie you had on in the video.
A sly, shit-eating grin crept across his flushed face.
"I can ... you gonna invite me in so I can too?"
He grabbed your arm and yanked you inside, slamming the door behind you and pressing you roughly against it.
"Fuck, I missed you so much," he said as he wrapped his arms around you and buried his face in your neck, inhaling the scent of your perfume.
"I missed you, too, Kats. So fucking much." You kissed him. You missed the way his lips felt against yours. You missed the way his tongue slipped between them and teased you.
Katsuki slid his hands down your back and cupped your ass, giving it a squeeze before lifting you up onto his waist.
"Wh-what are you doing here? How'd you know where - who did you -?"
"I'm here because I missed you. I talked to the agency and they told me. More specifically, your secretary. She told me what room she'd booked for you and booked one for me right across the hallway. She deserves a raise." You told him between kisses.
"Fuck, she's gettin' one. Paid vacations ... whatever she wants. C'mere, c'mere.” He carried you to the bed and laid you down, slotting himself between your legs. “You still wet for me, baby? Did you finish?"
"No, I didn't. I wasn’t going to without you." You started to pull your coat and lingerie off and he watched with his mouth open and his dick straining in his pants. "Get naked, Kats. I wanna see you, baby."
He stripped as quickly as he could, leaving his clothes in a pile on the floor. He stepped towards you and you both reached for each other. Your hands found his cock and he moaned as you started to stroke him. His fingers found their way between your legs, and he started to rub your clit.
"Oh my god, Kats. I missed your hands so much. Don't stop."
"I won't, I promise. I won't stop until you cum, baby." He kept rubbing as he moved his mouth to your breasts, sucking and licking your nipples.
"Nghh, that feels so good, baby. I'm gonna cum for you. I'm gonna --" you arched your back and cried out as you came. Katsuki kept rubbing as you shook in his arms.
"That's it, baby. Cum for me. Fuck, I love you so much. You're so fucking hot, babe."
You smiled at him and then pushed him back onto the pillows.
"You didn't think we were done, did you? Not until you fuck me, Kats."
He grinned again as he lay back. "Then what are you waiting for? Get on me, baby."
You straddled his hips and eased down onto his cock.
"Fuck, Kats."
He hissed through his teeth as he watched himself disappear into your body. You swallowed him so completely.
"You feel so good, babe. I missed you. You missed me filling you up like this, huh? You missed my cock in you, baby?"
"Ohhh, I missed your cock so fucking much, Kats. I've been thinking about you fucking me every night since you left."
You started to move on him. Slowly at first, but then you picked up the pace. Katsuki held your hips as you bounced on his dick.
"That's it, baby. Just like that. Fuck me harder."
"Oh my god, Kats. You feel so good in me, baby. I missed you so much. I missed this, I missed us, I missed everything about you, Kats. I love you so fucking much."
You were starting to get close again and Katsuki could tell. He wrapped his arms around your back and pulled you down on him harder and faster.
"That's it, baby. Cum on m-… cum for me. Cum all over my cock. I'm so fucking close, too."
You cried out as you came for the second time, and Katsuki couldn't hold back anymore. He came inside of you, his cock pulsing as he emptied himself.
You collapsed on top of him, both of you panting and sweaty. Katsuki held you tight and kissed you all over your face.
"I missed you so much, Kats. So fucking much."
"I'm so glad you're here, baby." He smiled. "Me too. I love you."
You smiled back at him and kissed him. You both knew that you had the whole night to stay there, to be tangled up in each other. Tomorrow you had to head back home.
And you both intended to make the most of the time you had with the other until the sun came up.

It’s been a little bit since I was here last.
Facebook currently feels like everyone is screaming into one of those plastic echo microphones from a five and dime store. The signal to noise ratio is terrible; I can’t believe I’ve kept with it for so long. Meanwhile, returning to Tumblr feels like that remote beach spot where you and your high school friends used to hang out; the place where you’d take photos with crappy film cameras and listen to midwestern emo on your iPod. Honestly, I don’t mind how desolate it is here, it’s still familiar.
While I was on my Tumblr sabbatical, I finished my Amazon, picked up a handful of weird Benzes and rescued a few stray cats. Oh, and a dog, a big sweetheart of a dog.

r we having fun yet?
Is it just me or have we hit a road block? I miss my old life but I don't at the same time. 2022 is really testing my limits... I really truly think that back when crappy Internet, digital cameras and iPods were a thing was truly the best time. Can I have that please and all of this? I am 26, graduating Master's this year and going in for another degree just because I was too scared to study music management abroad back in 2015! Idk I just hope it is all worth it in the end. But I do want to get an iPod again for real

I need to come up with a cute name I could use for a youtube channel. I’ve been thinking about starting vlogging with my crappy ipod camera (until I have something better) for a while but I don’t think I want to carry over PrideandPen to youtube I’m 100% open to suggestions while I’m thinking on it if any of you have some (I don’t really have a single idea of what I’ll be vlogging about, it’ll probably be a combination of this and that and I’ll just see how it grows)

Songshot #1 Part 2

Loving can heal
Loving can mend your soul
And it’s the only thing that I know
_____________________________
*Three months later*
Kara was waiting. She was waiting for the next letter to come in.
It had been a week since the previous one and their absence was making her nervous. Ever since she had gotten to the school to receive a letter about how cheesy she was on the second day, they were what kept her going.
Sometimes she would sincerely wonder why she was even here. Kara knew she could’ve gone to a school closer to her girlfriend at her tech school, but no, she had to get her dream college.
Sometimes she hated the goals she set up for herself, especially when they interfered with Lena. Her girlfriend.
Kara tapped her foot impatiently on the floor. Her letter should arrive should at her sister’s, which was where she told her girl to send it to. No one would be able to read their letters then.
So what if no one would ever do that at such a high class school! Maybe she was jealous of anyone who would know about her ‘secret’ letters. They were from her girlfriend after all.
Kara saw the truck outside the window and rushed out to get the mail. And a letter addressed from her girl was right on top.
_____________________________
I swear it will get easier
Remember that with every piece of ya
And it’s the only thing we take with us when we die
_____________________________
She rushed to open the letter and read it right in the middle of the front yard.
“Dear 'My true love’,”
Kara chuckled at the reference of what she put on the photograph she had given the girl almost three months ago.
“I apologize for my lack of response to your messages. It’s been a little rough lately. My mom came to visit and you know how she is, and apparently I have about five hundred homework assignments to complete. You know how it is.”
The usually always bright blonde girl was now a little darker by reading the news. Oh how she wishes she had just settled for a closer college.
“On the other hand, I think I know what I want to be. Like a field and everything! I think being a researcher or inventor would suit me. It would be wonderful, just think of me as one!”
The girl once again chuckled a little seeing Lena’s enthusiasm about the subject. Kara could totally see her as a fancy scientist as well, so that just made it better. She finally got to the end of the letter.
“Okay so I have to go. I’ll try to write more this week or whatever since this will get to you in like three days. Bye!
P.S. The pictures are from my phone, not some stalker’s!”
She burst out laughing at the last sentence and looked around for the photographs mentioned. When she saw the first one, she couldn’t help but stare.
______________________________
We keep this love in this photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Our hearts were never broken
Time’s forever frozen still
_____________________________
The photo Kara saw first was of her and Lena. The two of them were on Lena’s bed, just smiling at the camera. If she remembered correctly, this was before they got together and they were doing math homework that night.
She analyzed first herself, seated on her right and then the girl in the left. She had no doubt that the brilliant, blue eyed girl was much cuter than her.
She couldn’t stop grinning at the photo. The Kara in the photo was looking straight into the camera, while Lena was blushing beside her.
It was adorable.
She flipped it over, knowing a message would be on the back. It was like a code between the two now.
It read,
“Now that was awhile ago, right? I was such a weirdo to not delete it since we weren’t together at the time, but I’m glad I have it now! (Or technically you do…) The other picture wasn’t taken by me in case you are wondering. It was Winn who took it! Love you!”
Kara smiled one more time at the scene on the photo before turning her head to the other picture.
It was almost better than the first one.
_____________________________
So you can keep me
Inside the pocket
Of your ripped jeans
Holdin’ me closer
'Til our eyes meet
You won’t ever be alone
_____________________________
This one only had the girl she loved on it, and she was just sitting on their park bench they always sit on, listening to music.
It was simple but beautiful.
Lena had her eyes closed in the shot, and her head was slightly tilted, as if she was listening very closely to the headphones on her ears.
Kara’s grin only got wider when she saw that the girl was wearing the ripped jeans that she said looked good on her.
They really did.
She flipped it over and started to read the short message.
“We were at the park studying and Winn stole my phone while I was listening to my iPod. He took it and threatened me to send it to you or else.
P.S. Did you see what in my pocket?”
The blonde was slightly confused, but flipped it to the front again anyway.
There, sticking out of the pocket of her ripped jeans, was a photograph.
Her photograph. The one she had given Lena that day she left.
And that made her heart burst with joy.
_____________________________
And if you hurt me
That’s OK, baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won’t ever let you go
_____________________________
*One month later*
Lena was waiting.
Waiting for her letter.
It was Thanksgiving, but the blonde girl hadn’t come to visit.
She was slightly scared.
She was just sitting in her room, waiting for something, anything really.
Maybe for her hero to come in. Maybe for a sign that could show her what to do.
She felt like crying, but suddenly she heard a ring tone belonging to a certain blonde female.
She picked up her phone and answered immediately.
“Hello?”
“Hey…” came the response hesitantly.
“Where are you? You said you would visit in break!” The distraught girl said, almost in tears.
“I’m sorry…. something happened and I have to take care of it.”
The girl was suspicious of the blonde on the other side of the phone and almost voiced her concern before Kara start talking again.
“Listen… I can’t send any letters right now, okay? I can’t really receive them either.. so please stop.”
The girl had tears running down her face but kept a solid tone.
“So, I’ll see you at Christmas break?”
She had to stay strong. Kara was on the other side. She couldn’t hear how hard this was for her.
“Yeah… I love you, all right. Bye.”
The line went dead in her hands.
She couldn’t help but cry a little, even if she knew this would eventually happen.
Lena knew the blonde was becoming stressed out, she had written that to her. She also knew her boss for the crappy job she worked at was a jerk.
She knew Kara well enough to know that she would stop if it was all too much. It didn’t make things better. Lena sighed and thought of an idea.
She was emotional, and she wanted to write something. Lena had always dabbled in poetry. Her mom had discouraged it but… maybe this bump in their relationship would be perfect inspiration.

What do reviewers don't like about Palm?
What do reviewers don't like about Palm?
Before I get to Palm review myself, I read the great reviews on this phone and try to summarize the most fundamental criticisms I have found in reading.
summary of complaints
When I read all this, the following comes out to me:
missing nfc chip
missing jack connector
missing volume buttons
worse camera
life mode not only switch off notifies notifications but also WiFi and LTE
small phone size
messaging applications are unusable due to keyboard size
low battery capacity and low battery life
older versions of Android OS - 8.1 Oreo
high price
It seems to me that many experienced reviewers do not know what they want from such a phone. Before I go to the review, I will have to play with the phone, try out the possible use scenarios and maybe come to that.
Anyway, I recommend reading all the linked reviews and viewing the photo galleries because the view of Palm is truly breathtaking… d8-D
android authority
However, what was upsetting was how much power drained when the phone was in standby mode. Overnight, I could expect at least 20 to 30 percent of the battery to be gone if I didn’t plug it in.
The Palm Phone’s cameras get the job done, but don’t take it with you if you want to capture high-quality memories.
android police
The screen is too small to be comfortable with modern apps that expect more real estate—things get cut off, and typing is awful. TCL's attempt to make the experience minimalist with features like the launcher and Life Mode fall flat, too. The Palm Phone is fun to play with for a few minutes, but I can't imagine regularly taking this thing with me on a night out instead of my real phone. The awful camera alone is enough to put me off.
ars technica
What are you supposed to use this for? Is it a new-age iPod? A smartwatch alternative? A smaller phone to take on your fitness activities? It's not really good at any of these things.
First, the $350 price tag puts it firmly in smartwatch territory, which is a huge problem for justifying a lot of Palm's supposed use cases. You can get an Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular access for $380. You can also get an LTE-equipped Wear OS or Samsung watch for around this price.
Palm calls this phone a "wearable" and sells a variety of cases, armbands, and lanyards designed for easy portability, but nothing is more portable than a smartwatch. So, if you're looking to travel light, just get the smaller device.
The Palm phone isn't a great music player thanks to the lack of a headphone jack and physical volume rocker. Sure, you can pair Bluetooth headphones to it, but you can also just pair Bluetooth headphones to your smartwatch, which is going to be smaller and more portable.
The Palm phone also can't beat a smartwatch for fitness activities, since a watch is going to be lighter and easier to carry. Plus, a watch will do heart-rate tracking. Maybe you want to bring a real phone, because you hate the lack of a keyboard on a smartwatch and don't want to speak to your device in public—but the Palm phone is too tiny to comfortably type on. The body is so skinny that you can't hold it with two hands, and the keyboard on this skinny screen is so small that a fingertip presses about four keyboard letters at once. You're relying on autocorrect so much that you might as well use Wear OS' tiny keyboard.
Plus, a smartwatch has one more major feature that the Palm phone doesn't support: NFC. If you're out for a jog, you can run into a shop and buy a drink with your smartwatch. You can't make a payment with a Palm phone.

No. The Palm doesn’t offer any value. The camera isn’t good, the battery won’t last you more than a few hours while you’re out, and it’s frustrating to type on. You’re better off saving yourself $350 by simply tapping on the ‘Do Not Disturb’ button on your (already expensive) Android or iPhone and going about your day.

The Palm seemed like it could be the right device at the right time: it’s a tiny, secondary smartphone for times when you want to be more present in the real world. To the company’s credit, its namesake phone is a beautiful, well-built conversation starter. Unfortunately, the Palm’s size will make it too difficult for some to use, while some compatibility issues and poorly executed features are sure to frustrate others. Ultimately, Palm’s ambitions were admirable, but its first device feels like a half-baked answer to a serious problem.

Even though I didn't find the Palm as good at its job as simply adhering to those habits (and others), I'm still compelled by the idea and think it could be improved. I can live with its slow performance, but I'd like to see an even better camera and a more robust battery. Those enhancements would certainly add to the cost, but I feel that's not such a hard sell, and a more accurate picture of the Palm idea: I don't want a crappy phone, just one that's better suited to being more present IRL.

The idea of having two phones isn't insane. You might already have a work phone and a play phone, for instance. I've seen that as far back as Nokia's fashion-phone line from 2005. I personally wouldn't mind a tiny weekend phone. I'm the guy who's been asking for smaller smartphones for years now. The Palm phone, beautifully designed and tiny, should be the phone of my dreams.
But it fails to function well. I can forgive a low-cost phone for not having a Pixel-quality camera. The Pixel 3 costs $800. But the Whatsapp and iMessage problems, the weak Wi-Fi, the scratchy call quality, the tiny keyboard, and the lack of volume buttons all add up to a phone that's irritating, not relaxing, to use. Many of these annoyances are probably fixable with software updates, which just puts the Palm phone on the list of products that had to come out in November, whether or not they were ready.
slashgear
The Palm Palm, or whatever you’d like to call it, is a great effort by a company whose head seems like it’s in the right place, but not quite going the right direction. When I first imagined that this Palm device, I thought it was sort of absurd. I thought it was ridiculous mistake. Now I’m convinced that it was a really great effort put toward a device that might be sorta doomed.
Especially considering the cost of the phone, there can’t possibly be a large enough population of users ready to toss down cash for the privilege of having a phone for their phone. Imagine paying $350 USD for a phone that’s only able to act as a second phone for the phone you’ve already got in your pocket or purse.
tom’s guide
We all need to spend less time staring at our phones, so at least there's a good idea behind the Palm. But part of the problem is that the phone lacks the courage of its convictions. If we're supposed to use the Palm only intermittently, why preload it with apps that are contrary to that mission? And, why let people add even more apps that can potentially suck away time and attention? Features that do serve Palm's stated mission, like Life Mode, could stand to be fine-tuned, and it should be easier to control the phone's volume.
Then there's the matter of the Palm's $350 price tag — which isn't insignificant at a time when the prices of fully featured smartphones are on the rise. It's tempting to compare and contrast a companion phone like the Palm to an LTE-enabled smartwatch. You'd certainly pay more for the watch — the Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $499 if you want LTE connectivity — but you'd get a device that offers the same features as the Palm in a form factor that's better suited for at-a-glance uses. And the watch throws in health and fitness tracking features not found in the Palm.
the verge
The core of that ethos is something they call “Life Mode.” (Or, because the founders are dads, hashtag dad mode.) More than any other feature, the Life Mode on the Palm phone is what makes this a “time well spent” minimalist phone. When you turn Life Mode on by tapping a palm tree icon, it enables a set of Do Not Disturb and Low Battery settings.
In Life Mode, your notifications are obviously turned off, but Palm is also turning off the wireless radios. The cellular and Wi-Fi radios will only turn on when the screen is on. (Bluetooth will also turn off but stay on if you are connected to headphones.) It’s a much more aggressive way to turn off notifications and deny incoming phone calls. Palm specs the phone at eight hours of normal use without Life Mode on, so if you toggle it the Palm phone is expected to last a super long time on a charge.
Oddly, the Palm phone is not running the latest version of Android which has a bunch of Digital Wellbeing features built right in. The company tells me that they didn’t want to conflict with those Android 9 Pie features. Perhaps an update will come in the future, but it’s a miss for now.

life mód vypne nejen notifikace, ale i WiFi a LTE
malé rozměry telefonu
messaging aplikace jsou nepoužitelné kvůli velikosti klávesnice
nízká kapacita baterie a malá výdrž
starší verze OS Android - 8.1 Oreo
vysoká cena
Po pravdě mi přijde, že mnoho i zkušených recenzentů vlastně neví, co od takového telefonu chtít. Než se pustím do recenze já, budu si s tím telefonem muset pořádně pohrát, vyzkoušet možné scénáře použití a třeba na to přijdu.
Každopádně doporučuji pročtení všech linkovaných recenzí a prohlédnutí fotogalerií, protože pohled na Palm je opravdu úchvatný...d8-D
android authority
I’m wearing something white today. I bought flip flops recently. I always buy my flip flops from Old Navy. My boyfriend’s birthday is in April. I really want a red ipod with a video camera. I haven’t logged into myspace in a while. The computer i’m currently using is black. I haven’t eaten breakfast today. I’m wearing jeans right now. I can hear a tv. Moving out of my house soon would be awesome. One of my friends is pregnant. Things have been going alright with me lately. My period is almost gone. I wish there was something fun to do in my town, but there never is. I saw Brooklyn’s Finest in theaters and liked it. I also saw alice in wonderland. I recently returned a book to the library. I’ve written an essay for a friend. I’ve painted my toenails in the past 3 days. The weather was SO nice 2 days ago. Today it’s drizzling cold rain. I know someone with an extensive DVD collection. My hair is in a ponytail right now. ^I’m not liking the way it looks at all. I remember when myspace was a top priority, lol. I’m currently broke. I haven’t received a paycheck this week. I have more than 2 earlobe piercings in each ear. ^I have 5 to be exact. I get along with my best friend’s boyfriend. I have an old and crappy ipod nano. I don’t have many close friends, and i like it that way. One of my friends recently broke my trust. My mom graduated high school a year early. All of my friends, except one, smoke pot. I’m the only one out of my friends who doesn’t drink alcohol. I’ve had my license for over 2 years. My best friend is in high school.
One of my friends was born in Georgia. I wish I had a tree house |: I’ve been to either Centegra or Lifetime. Fat cats are awesome. “Fireflies” is overplayed & annoying. The rush is worth the price I pay. I don’t care much for April Fool’s Day. I have some family in Texas. I would consider myself to be in the ‘middle-class’ Photogenic I am not. It’s currently raining outside. I’ve been to a hotel in the past month. Cherry blossoms are beautiful. ^But not my favorite flower. I have little teeth. Demi Lovato isn’t that awesome. I have heard Glitzy Glam. I speak random Spanish ALL the time. I own a shark’s tooth. One of my friends has a belly ring. I’ve heard of Ren Patrick. My school has a fishin’ club. I watch ANTM. ^I could never be a model. Babysitting comes naturally to me. I hate looking like a tourist. Katherine Heigl was better looking blonde. Too many Peeps make me sick.

The complete Facebook Live toolkit for musicians
What you need to take your Facebook Live game to the next level.
Here’s the thing about Facebook Live: you can go live with nothing more than your phone!
Hardly any toolkit needed at all.
And if we’re going to learn a lesson from Steve Lacy, it’s to just start. Don’t wait around for the perfect equipment, the newest gadget, the best lighting rig. Take what you have, even if it’s just your phone with its built-in camera and mic, and begin.
You’ll fumble, you’ll get better, and maybe you’ll find that the least amount of equipment yields the best results. It worked for Dawn Beyer, who earned more than $74k in under a year by playing short concerts on Facebook Live using nothing more than her phone.
That being said, there a few affordable items that can, under certain circumstances, make your live-streaming life a lot simpler. Most likely the simpler it is to “go live,” the more you’ll do it, the more fun you’ll have, and the better your broadcasts will become.
Here are five items that can improve your live streaming on Facebook:
1. A lightning/USB mic
The built-in mic on your phone is fine. But if you want something better than fine, there are affordable options for external mics.
I love the Shure MV51 digital condenser microphone.
Firstly, it comes with two cables (USB to USB for PC or Android devices, and Lightning for use with iPhones, iPads, or iPods).
It has a kickstand so you can easily prop it on a nearby table; but if you have to get the mic in just the right position, it’s easy to remove the cap from the bottom of the kickstand and mount it to a mic stand.
This is a small, rugged, portable, multi-purpose digital microphone, so putting it to the test against the best condenser mics would miss the point. When you compare the results you get with this mic versus what you’d pick up with your camera’s built in microphone, though, there’s a world of difference. I’m no audio engineer, so these could be imprecise descriptors, but compared to my phone’s built-in mic, the MV51 provides clarity, smoothness, mellowing out some of the harsher stuff, and it adds a little roundness without sounding smashed.
So yeah, it sounds good AND gives you a ton of flexibility, since the thing has a number of presets to choose from, including:
speech
singing
acoustic instrument
loud mode
flat mode
This allows you to quickly find the right settings for quiet acoustic performances, loud shows, voice/podcast type stuff, and more. Plus with the swipe of your finger you can adjust the gain right on the mic.
A built-in headphone output helps you reduce latency when monitoring, and — these newfangled devices are so smart — it also knows to power up when you phone’s video camera is enabled.
Because the MV51 either requires a mic stand or a flat surface nearby to prop it on, there’s one other mic worth considering for your Facebook Live efforts: Shure’s MV88.
The MV88 is a super small stereo condenser mic made specifically for iOS devices, and it plugs right into the device — so the phone is actually acting as the support brace or “stand” for the microphone. Again, this saves you on having to bring a mic stand or worry about having a table or desk nearby, and that more minimal approach may inspire you to “go live” more often in more locations.
The drawback is that, while you can rotate the MV88 to a degree, you might not be able to get a perfect angle to the sound source AND a perfect camera angle from your phone at the same time if you happen to be oddly positioned in the frame. In contrast, the MV51 can be placed independently of the phone (though you still need them to be close enough together to be connected by the cable, of course). If you’re just sitting in front of the camera strumming a guitar though, the MV88 should do the trick.
2. A smartphone tripod…
… so you don’t have to lean your phone against a stack of books or a tree, and…
3. A small LED light
I breezed over #2 because you can get a smartphone tripod AND small LED light together in a package like this one from Livestream Gear.
The light is battery-operated, of course, so you gotta keep it charged, and expect it to only work at full brightness for about 30 minutes. After that it’ll slowly dim for another 30 minutes or so. But that’s plenty of time for your average Facebook Live broadcast.
Then just remember to put that battery back in the charger when your live stream is done.
4. A taller tripod
If your location doesn’t allow for a good spot to place the smartphone tripod, you can remove the mount for the camera and light and attach it to a standard tripod. This is definitely an “extra,” but if you’re not always going live from the same location, it might be worth getting one of these.
5. BeLive.tv (and a good webcam)
This last option is going to send us in a whole different direction, but if you want to incorporate screen-shares, pre-roll video, split-screen interviews, customized branding, or other fancy elements into your broadcast, you might want to check out a platform such as BeLive.tv, a third-party tool which helps you stage a pro-looking presentation and publish it (live) as a Facebook Live stream.
Be warned: There’s a monthly subscription fee that might seem hefty if you’re on a tight budget. But if you’ve gotten to the point where you’re wanting video elements that aren’t supported within Facebook’s native “Live” features, this is a good avenue to explore.
The reason I include the “good webcam” above is because as the host you can only go live through BeLive.tv from a desktop. If your computer’s built-in camera is crappy, invest in something that captures HD.
Did I forget any essentials? Let me know in the comments.

Locker room opening
#1
Every footfall in a steady beat against the treadmill sent a pulse up into Liv’s temples, one she’d been ignoring with varying success throughout the session. It was one of those days, she had them every so often. When she did, she would spend the day running and running and running herself into a migraine so she had ‘no choice’ but to forgo everything else she might have done that day to sleep it off instead. It was taking procrastination to a weird level.
Liv could get stuck in a bit of a rut when she had nothing to occupy herself with, or, nothing she wanted to occupy herself with. On a Monday with spring break in full swing, the garage shut and her schoolwork caught up with, the gym seemed like a way to successfully occupy her time while simultaneously keeping her from doing anything productive. Attempting to stave off the pounds of chocolate brownie she had consumed during her latest period was an added bonus. It beat laying around drinking beer and playing videogames like she was prone to do.
As the digital digits rolled up and over the 5K mark, Liv shut the treadmill down and kept pace with the slowing belt until she could stand still, lazily letting it deposit her off the end of machine with a thud of her old sneakers hitting the floor. Even in the excessively air-conditioned student gym it was always an urge resisted when Liv didn’t immediately dump the contents of her water bottle over her head. It wasn’t like anyone not already paying attention to her would notice anyway; she was a sweater, already slick with moisture.
It was only ever an urge resisted because Liv knew there was a much steadier stream of water – hot or cold – waiting to be showered over her after each workout. As someone who vastly preferred showers to baths, and who only had a tub in her small en-suite bathroom in her crappy six room student house share, Liv would readily admit that the main reason for her being such an avid gym-goer was the free 24/7 access to powerful unlimited showers via the locker rooms.
As she sluggishly made her way in that direction, past another row of treadmills and other cardio equipment currently in use, Liv barely paid any mind to the other gym goers as she pulled off her loose-fitting tank top, leaving her in a sports bra that was more for gym aesthetic than function. She was still dabbing away the moisture at her forehead and chest when she made it to the locker room, music instantly finding her ears when she opened the door.
The expected noise of voices to accompany the music didn’t reach her. It was sometimes the way, during the busier periods of term when the gym was packed, to enter the ladies locker room to the sound of music and chatter – customary with a group of girls hitting the gym as a pack, getting changed together. As Liv rounded the corner towards the three rows of lockers divided by benches, she found the opposite to be true.
Although the room was obviously in use by the other female gym-users she’d passed outside, there were no signs of anyone. No voices coming from the other rows of lockers, no movement either, no sounds of running water coming from the far side of the room where the showers were.
Sighing in mild annoyance – the kind that was largely unwarranted yet easily stirred in LP when she had a headache – Liv headed in the direction of her locker in the middle row, her mild annoyance swelling ever so slightly when the source of the music increased in volume the closer she got. It was coming from a locked locker (with the key still in), three down from hers. 112.
Any other time and it was probably a beat she could get down with, even if it was a little too pop and cheese for her taste. She wasn’t sure if it was her headache, or whether the metal locker was amplifying the tinny speakers of the phone or ipod, or whether it was just annoying, but the music seemed way too loud compared to the relative quiet of the locker room.
Dumping her shirt and bottle onto the bench, Liv pulled her own locker key from the pocket of her shorts, moving it about in her fingers while she rounded the locker at the end of the middle row to peek around and into the right. Nothing. It wasn’t much of a jingle with two keys on a ring, but Liv rattled them nonetheless, hoping to wordlessly announce her presence to the owner of the music and have them rushing to politely shut it off in the presence of another who might not share their tastes.
No such luck.
She backtracked past the center row and leaned around into the left. Empty, as she suspected.
Trudging back into the center row towards her own locker, Liv passed the offending locker as the song changed from what sounded like a rap song in a language she couldn’t understand (but recognized as maybe Japanese or Korean) to more of a dance/pop song where the voices singing were either female or very soft male voices. Liv resisted the urge to turn the key and switch the device off. Who left their key in their locker anyway? The person might as well have been asking for someone to mess with their shit. Even before they left their music on to broadcast to non-consenting gym members.
Another urge resisted, Liv took a deep breath and instead opened 115, grabbing her towel and the small waterproof drawstring gym bag with her change of clothes. As she headed towards the showers, she thought maybe by the time she’d showered, changed and returned, whoever’s music it was would return and shut it off. Or maybe her luck would change and the device would run out of juice, or maybe someone else would come in with less patience and poorer manners and turn it off for them both.
While she showered, unbelievably the music echoed through the locker room and into the shower with her, even being heard over the hot rushing water which would have otherwise helped with her head. The frown she could feel furrowing her brow hindered any progress the warm water may have made in soothing her headache, and by the time she was dry and changed and back in front of the offending locker Liv Parker was well and truly ticked off over well… nothing worth being annoyed over, really.
Letting down her heavy bun of braids, Liv rubbed at her scalp while she wandered back towards the door to the locker rooms. Her newly shortened braids still fell just below her shoulders; their weight had been the main reason for the trim. The ends hung loosely in undone waves now, swaying harmlessly (they used to whip her if she turned sharply) against her chest while she leaned out of the door to check if anyone was coming.
For a girl who used to sling on the side among other things, Liv was conscious of the excessive amount of caution she was using in preparation for turning a key in a lock and pushing a button. Nevertheless she made her way back to 112, took one last look to the left and the right, then turned the key. The music was transitioning into another song when she found the phone, clicked the screen on and hit the pause button. Liv let out a long-exaggerated sigh into the silence that surrounded her, wishing she’d done this before the shower. She was somewhat tempted to go and enjoy a second more quiet and peaceful shower before heading home, but testing the weight of this stranger’s phone in her hand, Liv thought against it. There was always tomorrow.
So instead, Liv clicked the screen off, replaced the phone and relocked the locker, key in place as it was. She gathered her own things, pulled on her jacket and backpack, locked her locker and pocketed the key. As she headed towards the door, she paused as she passed the now silent locker. She half expected it to start playing music again, just as one last act of annoyance.
It didn’t. Liv turned on it anyway. Casting a glance over her shoulder, she opened the locker once again, grabbing the phone and clicking it on. The lock screen came to life, the song paused where she left it and an idea came to mind.
It was spring break. She was annoyed and bored and headache-ridden – but there was no reason she couldn’t make light out of a situation that had taken place in the locker room physically, but primarily in her own head. The owner of the source of Liv’s irritation could at least be privy to what had gone on – to some extent. No one else would be.
Liv click and held the little camera icon in the bottom right of the lock screen, dragging it up until the front-facing camera showed her face on the display. She gave a sigh at the deep furrow still ever-present in her brow. Perry was probably right about those frown lines.
Watching her face in the display, Liv tried to work her frown into her best ‘really????’ expression, eyebrow cocked, mouth pulled into a left of center hint of a smile. She clicked ‘edit’, and added some text to go across the image just below her chin. She typed:
‘112. Idk how you managed to leave your music playing, but next time’
Muttering a “Yikes,” under her breath, she erased it, started again.
‘Dear 112. You left your loud music on. P.s key in locker = risky move. Love from your disgruntled moody neighborhood gym-goer, 117.’
Before she left, Liv looked over her picture, read and reread over her message once, twice, eventually biting the bullet and clicking ‘save’. She could have just left it there, but before she clicked the screen off, Liv hit ‘set as’ then ‘set as lock screen’. Just to send the message home, why not?

10 UNDERUSED CHARACTER QUESTIONS ~
── repost, don’t reblog!
INTRODUCTION
NAME: jung minseo / michelle jung AGE: 20 PICTURE/GIF OF YOUR MUSE:
WHAT WOULD BE THEIR TWITTER NAME? WHAT SORTS OF TWEETS WOULD THEY TWEET?
She already has a twitter account. It’s private and for personal connections only. Once the group debuts they will no doubt make her get rid of it to avoid any sort of fans hacking or scandals coming about due to it. Right now her twitter handle is issues_kr - due to a Julia Michaels song that she heard and fell in love with. No doubt once the group is allowed to have official twitter accounts she will have a name that is some relation / correlation to the group.
WHAT’S THEIR FAVORITE GENRE OF MOVIES? OF MUSIC?
Music she is all over the place. Her ipod is sorted into moods rather than genera, since music should reflect what you’re feeling at the moment and inspire something inside of you. Being a dancer most of the stuff she listens to tends to have a good beat, though she can dance to just about anything if she puts her mind to it. As for movies, she loves everything from horror to romantic comedies to disney / pixar movies. She’ll watch everything once. But she is a bit of a snob and won’t watch any b horror movies, since the crappy special effects - acting and camera work give her a headache.
WHAT’S ON THEIR TOP QUEUE ON NETFLIX?
Currently the top of her queue on Netflix is Marvel’s Iron Fist. Mainly because she wants to see if it is as bad as everyone is saying it is. And because she has a small obsession with all of the Netflix Marvel shows in general and doesn’t want to skip out on one of the crew that will eventually become the Defenders. Due to busy schedules consisting of practice she hasn’t had time to start it yet. Usually opting instead for something with instant gratification, like a movie she’s already seen a hundred times and won’t feel bad passing out in the middle of.
WHAT’S THEIR FAVORITE SCENT? DO THEY SMELL LIKE THAT?
Clean / fresh scents are her favorites. Freshly cleaned laundry. Bath soaps. Lavender. And citrus. She is the one in the dorms always using aroma shower tablets that end up making half of the dorm smell like a lavender field. She is a bit obsessive when it comes to her cleaning rituals, which leads her to showering sometimes multiple times throughout the day. And luckily the groups leader is obsessed with doing their laundry, so she never has to go without new fresh smelling outfits to slide into.
APPLE OR ANDROID?
She’s had both, but prefers android products. Mainly for their expandable memories - as she is always the one downloading a ton of phone games and maxing out her memory with a quickness. At this current time she is debating what to delete off to download the latest and greatest game, seeing as she is too broke to buy another memory card at the moment.
FAVOURITE SEASON? LEAST FAVOURITE SEASON?
Minseo’s favorite season would be torn between Spring and Fall. Mostly because she is in love with the warm up of spring, flowers blossoming and the world coming back to life after a long winter. And fall because of the opposite. Everything is cooling off and calming down. The world seemingly getting ready to sleep for a little while. - Least favorite season would be summer, due to all of the heat. She’s not much for sweating when she isn’t dancing or doing some sort of physical activity, so she won’t do it if she can at all avoid it. Thus summer always seems to rub her the wrong way. The whole walking outside and starting to sweat immediately, it’s just not the thing for her.
ARE THEY A BOTTOM, TOP OR VERSATILE?
Top or bottom bunk in the dorm doesn’t really matter that much to her. Though she prefers the bottom, since she has a horrible habit of rolling around in her sleep and falls out of bed a lot. Which on the bottom bunk isn’t that terrifying, on the top however it could lead to injury. Plus on the bottom she can put up a blanket around the outside of the bed and sleep in her own personal fort every night. Yes I totally turned a sexual question into one about sleeping arrangements. Fight me.
DESCRIBE THEIR MORNING ROUTINE. DO THEY WAKE UP EARLY OR SLEEP IN? DO THEY PRESS THE SNOOZE BUTTON A BUNCH OF TIMES OR DO THEY IMMEDIATELY GET UP?
If she had any choice in the matter, she wouldn’t get out of bed until the afternoon and then would spend all night at the studio practicing her dances. But due to her trainee schedules she wakes up before the sun is even out, but not until pressing the snooze button a couple of times. After which she stumbles into the shower and doesn’t fully wake up until after getting out and putting on her clothes to leave for the day.
