Inkscape Tutorial - Create and Apply a Crayon-Style Seamless Pattern Fill In this video tutorial, I design a seamless crayon-style pattern fill in Inkscape v.1.4. This video explains the creation of seamless scribble/ colouring-in patterns using crayon patterns as patterns along paths. The lines are contained in a clip group that is turned into a pattern to colour in the design. Additional lines and different layer blend modes are combined to create an illustration that looks like a page from a colouring book coloured with crayons. This tutorial has some more advanced techniques and it helps to have an understanding of path effects and patterns. There is a lot of information compressed into 20 minutes. If you prefer a click-here-do-that style tutorial, this might seem too fast. I try to show and explain the approach to this style to encourage you to create your own designs.

tough love?
Tumblr media
in a world that expected silence, joshua gave his son softness.
pairing: joshua hong x reader warnings: boy dad!joshua, parents au, teeth rotting fluff, domestic asf word count: 1.2k a/n: i seem to only be able to write about joshua lately so here u go 🤓 + im actually sobbing at this baby shua pic im crying
𖤓
most people say joshua would be the perfect girl dad.
the quiet warmth in his eyes, the softness in his voice, he just looked like someone meant to raise a daughter. you could just picture him tying pink ribbons into pigtails, learning how to braid hair through youtube tutorials, walking around with sparkly stickers on his cheeks because “my daughter said I’m a unicorn today.”
and you understood why. he’d be wonderful at that — raising a little girl with tender care, the kind so many women grew up needing but never quite received.
however, you thought otherwise. in your heart, he was a boy dad. it was like he was made to raise a son, your son.
you could see it in how he held him close like a secret he’d waited his whole life to be told. how he loved him in a way that rewrote everything the world ever said about what fathers and sons should be.
because while the world expected fathers to be stern and boys to be strong, joshua gave your son something else entirely — the space to be soft. to feel deeply. to cry without shame, to reach for comfort without apology, to be both gentle and enough.
you saw it the moment your son was born.
they placed him on your chest first, and you watched joshua’s hand shake as he reached out, touched the tiniest part of your baby’s arm, and whispered, “hi, buddy.”
he was crying before the baby was.
not from fear. not from shock. not from the weight of it. but from the kind of overwhelming love that settles into your bones.
“he’s perfect,” he said, voice trembling. “i’m gonna love him so well.”
and he did.
joshua carried your son everywhere those first few months. in wraps, in slings, tucked against his chest like he never wanted to let go. he hummed lullabies into his hair, traced soft circles on his back, and spoke to him even when he couldn’t understand the words yet.
“you’re safe,” he’d whisper. “always safe with me.”
the baby didn’t know what those words meant yet.
but he felt it. and you did, too.
your son’s first real tantrum happened over a broken crayon.
he was three. overtired and overstimulated. crumpled on the floor in tears, fists balled up, face red and frustrated.
you were about to kneel beside him when joshua gently touched your arm.
“i’ve got him,” he said.
then he sat down the floor sitting across his son, letting him cry. he didn’t flinch, didn’t correct. he just waited. letting him express his feelings while also letting him know that he was there.
“hey. that was your favorite crayon, huh?” he asks softly.
he receives a tiny nod through hiccups.
“it’s okay to be sad about that. i get sad about things too.”
the crying didn’t stop right away. but your son crawled into joshua’s lap minutes later. not because he was told to, but because he wanted to. and joshua wrapped his arms around him like he had all the time in the world.
that was the moment your son learned he never had to be alone in his feelings.
sometimes, the world got louder than joshua could control.
like the day your son came home from daycare with red-rimmed eyes and stiff shoulders. he wasn’t crying anymore, not visibly, but you could see it in the way he avoided joshua’s gaze, how his small hands stayed balled in his lap during dinner, barely touching his food.
joshua knelt in front of him, “did something happen today, bud?”
your son hesitated, “i cried when i missed you. and some of the boys saw.”
joshua’s hands stilled.
“they all laughed at me,” your son continued. “said boys don’t cry. that i was acting like a baby. like a girl.”
each word came with less confidence than the last, like he wasn’t sure anymore what was okay to feel. like he was repeating a rule he didn’t understand but was suddenly supposed to follow.
joshua didn’t scold. nor did he try to explain it away. he just opened his arms and asked gently, “can i show you something?”
he climbed into joshua’s lap, pressing his face into the curve of his shoulder.
and there in the middle of the playroom, he let a single tear fall.
your son pulled back, wide-eyed. “daddy… are you crying?”
joshua nodded. “yeah, i am.”
“why?”
“i cry when i feel big things. like love. or sadness. or when i hear you say something that makes my heart heavy.”
your son looked at him with sad eyes.
“and today, hearing that they laughed at you, that made my heart hurt a lot.”
your son looked confused for a second. then his little arms went around joshua’s neck.
“sorry, daddy.”
“no need to be sorry,” joshua whispered. “it’s good to feel things. you’re allowed.”
and that was the moment your son learned his softness would never make him less.
they had a language all their own.
not in words, but in the way your son instinctively reached for joshua’s hand when he was unsure. how he laid his head on his dad’s shoulder when he was sleepy. how he never hesitated to say, “i love you, dad,” because he heard it so often, it just lived in his chest.
joshua was the kind of father who kissed his son’s forehead when he dropped him off at school. who packed handwritten notes in his lunchbox.
he wore matching pajamas with him on movie nights.
let him fall asleep against his side during bedtime stories. held him during fevers, nightmares, scraped knees, never once rushing the hug.
people still said joshua gave girl dad energy.
but if they could see what you saw, if they witnessed the way joshua raised your son with open hands and open arms, they’d understand.
this wasn’t about pink or blue, softness or strength.
this was about a boy who grew up knowing he never had to earn his father’s affection.
that love wasn’t conditional. that tenderness wasn’t weakness. that he could be everything he felt and still be whole.
joshua didn’t just raise a son.
he gave him the gift of belonging in every hug, in every gentle word, in every time he held him a little longer than the world said was “necessary.”
and one day, when your son is grown, you hope he remembers all of it.
the warmth. the softness. the safety.
that his father never made him feel like love had to be tough to be true.

Things I've discovered the game needs more of while making no CC Sims:
Colorful patterned tights and socks!
Skin details! (Throw us some eyebags or something, please.)
Makeup that doesn't look... like that. (Seriously, why does 75% of it look like a toddler smeared crayons on their face?)
High-waisted pants and skirts! (We have enough low-rise options, I promise. And then those low-rise options look even worse if you're trying to dress femme on a masculine frame. 😭)
ASPIRATIONS! (Why are there so few and why are they all so boring? So many of them are just glorified tutorials for exploring different worlds that I end up giving all my Sims the same ones.)

Okay guys, by popular demande, here's a tutorial on how to color Cosmic Peppino
The noise will come soon enough, don't worry
Note ! : I do realise how restrictive my tutorial is now, keep in mind that the software I'm using is Krita, and thus it possesses layer modes and stuff. I'm really sorry ibis paint users... I guess with enough finagling with the eyedropper tool you might achieve a similar result ? If you want help, let me know
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used a crayon looking brush for the shading, but if you want to do it with a hard brush that's completely okay ! You can color him in your own sauce if you want, i'm sure it'll turn out great :) . Don't forget that C Pep's colors become brighter and warmer when stimulated !
Tumblr media
I'll be on my way to make C Noise's tutorial
See yaaaa !

Y/N, waking up: what the...where am I?
Sun: welcome to your mandatory art lessons, sunshine! Are you comfortable? Do you want some tea?
Y/N: excuse me, what was that first part again?
Sun: a little bird told me that you have been struggling with your art progress. In my endless generosity, I have decided to take matters in my own hands and provide assistance! I shall give you infinite knowledge.
Y/N: did you weld the doors?
Sun, pouring tea and humming happily: only a little! There is another exit that only I know the whereabouts of. You have to earn it, first.
Y/N: this is madness. Let me out of here!
Sun: worry not, my true love! You will get good in no time! Just look at how well Moonie is doing over there in the corner!
Moon, covered in crayons and papers, staring at the wall: I have been here for several eternities and I still can't get that circle right.
Sun: see? He is so happy! Now, sweetheart, let's start. Do not disappoint me.
Y/N, groaning and picking up the drawing tools: I should have cherished those video tutorials when I had the chance.

Affinity Designer Tutorial - Create and Apply a Crayon-Style Seamless Fill Pattern In this video tutorial, I design a seamless crayon-style pattern to be used as a bitmap in the fill tool. This video explains the creation of seamless scribble/ colouring-in patterns using crayon texture intensity brushes. This pattern is exported and used as a bitmap fill to colour in the design. More layers, lines, and different layer blend modes are combined to create an illustration that looks like a page from a colouring back coloured with crayons. This tutorial has some more advanced techniques and it helps to have an understanding of symbols, brushes, and fx. There is a lot of information compressed into 15 minutes. If you prefer a click-here-do-that style tutorial, this might seem too fast. I try to show and explain the concept of how to approach this style and encourage you to try your own designs. To make it easier, here are the crayon brushes: https://2dgameartguru.gumroad.com/l/fpuqqh and the texture I used [along with 6 more in different styles]: https://2dgameartguru.gumroad.com/l/uzywh [Put a zero in the price field to get them for free!] Enjoy!

ㅤ. 𓂂 Twisted Wonderland ⊹
💐 it’s almost Valentine’s Day!
✿ ͡ ݂ Epel, Lilia, Ace, Cater
ㅤㅤ. ‿‿ ‿‿ ୨ ୧ ‿‿ ‿‿ .
♥︎: Valentine’s Day special! I selected only a few characters this time because writing all of the students took so long! I hope you guys liked it anyway!… Guys, I actually don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, so if it sounds like something you wouldn’t do in Valentine’s Day or found it kind of unusual, I apologize 😓😓😓 Anyway, besides that, writing these silly headcanons are kind of fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
♥︎: He’s nervous, but very excited for this day. He even highlighted the holiday on his calendar. He prepared these candy apples for you, carving them into abstract, and cute shapes. He had even written, and made you this childish, but lovely Valentine’s Day card. Inside, there’s the cheesy, infamous pick up line “you’re the apple of my eye” written in cursive, and in bright red ink. Be grateful, because he spent all day crafting it up. At first he’s nervous to give it to you, but he sucked it up, and watched you closely try his candy apples. He’s so proud of them, that he kept on babbling “is it good? Is it good?”—his hidden dialect slipped. Then when he catches his excitement, he’d probably blush in total embarrassment.
Tumblr media
♥︎: He’s so experienced with the upcoming holiday. He knows all sorts of things ladies covet for in this romantic occasion. He was originally going to try something new, and cook up his “special” dish for you, but thankfully Silver nagged him enough not to. So he bought, and prepared the usual heart-shaped box of chocolates, a bouquet of your favourite flowers, a stuffed animal of your favourite brand with his cologne sprayed on it, candy, perfume, a specially handwritten card in his signature dark, gothic stationery, and jewelry of your favourite kind. He’s those types of boyfriends who would go far to make you the Boo baskets or whatever. He knows what could make you swoon, it’s his thing. But you can’t help but wonder how he knows so much of your interests. Then, when the holidays came, and the moon was taking it’s throne, he’d lure you into the dark cobblestone paths of Ramshackle, and surprise you with the basket, and the little knick knacks he made, carefully arranged inside.
Tumblr media
♥︎: He’s broke af, so he decided to craft everything. Listen, he never has the time to pick up new hobbies besides shoot a basketball into a hoop, or be a twink with Deuce, and slack off in his studies, but since he really likes you, and favours you… it’s just one time. He had enough pocket money to buy these candy strips, and make them into these edible roses—he definitely found the tutorial on Youtube Shorts. He also tried sculpting you this really ugly jewelry dish; he knows it’s ugly, but he hopes you like it. It’s smothered in glitter of your favourite colour, and he even wrapped it in a satin ribbon! Then, of course, he made you a card. It’s poorly coloured in crayons, the letters are wonky, and even F is written backwards. But you know, he just hopes you’re happy. Then when it’s time to give it to you, he’d slip the gift bag into your hands, foolishly smirking at you.
Tumblr media
♥︎: It’s the time of the month for showing off his editing skills, and surprisingly, he’s pretty good in that Alightmotion stuff. He edited this photo album of you, putting in your favourite song, and adding these sick effects in it. He posted it in his Magicam story, but it ended up getting only 3 likes (from you, him, and his alt account). He can’t help but be a little disappointed, but since it was meant for you, he’s happy only you two got to see it. He also bought you a Djungelskog—the money came from his patron—and of course, the usual card, and a cheap box of chocolates. He’s especially teasing today, always sneaking pictures, and recording you while you open up his gift. He’s so proud of the edit though.

i look up to your art so much! i have a few questions if ur comfortable answering!!!
1. what app do u use to draw ? and what brush do u use?
2. were there any tutorials or videos in general you watched to be able to draw like that? im very curious on this question in general bc i love the way u draw poses. im very jealous of how well you do that! 😫 (if you have any vids you recommend, pls send it i begggggg)
3. how long have u been drawing? i got back into drawing last year and have been practicing since but i still struggle a bit 😣
HELLO! thank you so much for liking my work and for the questions!
Q1: I use Clip Studio Paint Pro, the brushes i use is a mix between free downloaded ones my friend gave me and paid ones. Main one i use is Cat Scratch but my other 2 options that i use are the fine pencil and mechanical pencil. i download so many brushes all the time that im not even sure they are default csp brushes or not, and i wouldn't even be able to find the original links anyway. The brush i used while working on the Sleep Walk animatic was "tantan"
Tumblr media
(examples of my fine pencil and mechanical pencil if you want to try and find something similar)
Q2: wow thank you that is a very nice complement (i personally think i still need some work on my posing). I watched a LOT of gesture drawing videos, i honestly don't remember all of them too well, i will send over this one and this one. Also the book MORPHO anatomy for artists: Simplified forms by Michel Lauricella is on my desk at all times. I also recommend Line of Action, its a free website that imitates figure drawing studies. it's helped me a lot since where i am right now, i don't have the resources to actually GO to figure drawing classes. But for videos in general there's this fav animatics playlist i have that i go back to whenever im in an artistic slump.
also heres a list of my fav artists atm (literally didn't ask but im putting it here anyway): TheBrujoAri, fourleafisland, jam_etc, abyssalzones, Mayuko Watson, Megan Lloyd, Stephen Silver and satoshi kon (also just a bunch of moots of mine <3)
Q3: now thats a hard question. short answer: since i knew how to pick up a crayon. long answer: i've always loved cartoons and comics, animated youtube in the 2010s was what i was watching on the family computer 24/7. but that's normal for a kid tbh, the difference is i just never grew out of it! i'd say it was around 5th grade (11 years old) when i stopped and realized "wait i want to like do this whole drawing thing seriously", then i never stopped.

What crayons do u use to make them look so bright?
The crayons I use are crayola, but most of the colored pieces I have posted recently are actually color pencil! Brand is Castle Arts, but the time of day I take my photos and photo editing do most of the heavy lifting!! I'll try to show off in an example:
Here is a photo of my Doey Play-doh drawing right now (my very yellow light in my room after dark):
Tumblr media
The color’s aren’t too bad but obviously everything is tinged yellow and it looks kinda wonky! This is why after a certain time of day I can’t post my traditional art anymore because all my photos turn out like this.
Here is the photo I took earlier today, entirely unedited (in-direct sunlight from my window). I find around 11-4 has the best lighting from my window. You want indirect sunlight because if it is directly on the piece you get a nasty glare! Cloudy days can actually be really good for photos.
Tumblr media
Our colors are looking much clearer, but they are still kinda washed out compared to how they look in person. Now, this is where photo editing comes in! I use the filters built into my phone to adjust my photos after I take the picture, usually I do it pretty subtly just to boost colors but sometimes I like to be more exaggerated (like with this drawing, this is the same photo as above but after I have done some photo editing)
Tumblr media
I tend to click the “auto adjust button” then tweak it from there until I think it looks right! The auto adjust button is nice because it gives you a good place to jump off of when tweaking. Photo editing is a MUST for traditional art because unless you have a really really good camera (and even then) the photos will never be quite as vibrant as the actual drawing. Sometimes I tend to undertune or over tune photos as my phone screen shows colors very differently from my monitor (I think both are wrong TwT) and I have to find a happy middle ground. For this piece here I think I over adjusted and you can almost see a faint red tint.
Knowing the right time of day to take photos for traditional art is super helpful, but photo editing is absolutely game changing!! There are a ton of tutorials out there if this is something you have the desire to learn, and phones come built in with photo editors in the photo apps so you can play around with those too!! (There are also plenty of free tools for it as well, I like using Lunapic personally on my computer). I hope that helps answer your question! Getting a decent photo of your traditional art is a skill in its own right, I am still just barely getting the hang of it! For the longest time my main goal was making sure my art looked crisp (most of my photos came out fuzzy) but I am working on color quality more!

The soft rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm, golden hue over Joel's small apartment. Toys scattered, and crayon drawings adorned the walls, painting a vivid picture of life with a spirited four-year-old named Sarah. Today, he’s facing a new frontier: the art of styling Sarah's wild, curly hair.
In the heart of the apartment, the kitchen table bore witness to the unfolding saga. Joel, armed with an array of hair tools and a laptop playing a tutorial, stared intently at the screen. Sarah, a ball of energy in her favorite princess dress, twirled around, giggling.
"Daddy, look at me!" she called, her curly crown dancing with each twirl.
"In just a minute, sweetheart," Joel replied, his gaze shifting between the laptop and the intimidating hairbrush in his hand.
Transitioning to the bathroom, Joel and Sarah stood before the mirror. Joel, with a gentle touch, spritzed Sarah's hair with water, creating a halo of droplets around her head.
"It's cold, Daddy!" Sarah protested, her enthusiasm momentarily dampened.
"I know, darling. It's part of the process," Joel reassured, glancing at the online tutorial for guidance.
Joel attempted to detangle the curls with a wide-tooth comb. Sarah stood in front of the mirror, her curls seemingly possessing a life of their own, evading Joel's efforts.
"Daddy, it's pulling!" Sarah whined, her patience waning.
"I'm sorry, sweetie. Just a bit more," Joel said, beads of frustration forming on his forehead.
The bathroom became a battleground as Joel grappled with knots and tangles. Sarah squirmed, the process proving more challenging than anticipated.
"Can we play something else?" Sarah pleaded.
"Just a little longer, princess. We're almost there," Joel reassured, beads of sweat forming on his temples.
Returning to the kitchen, Joel embarked on the styling phase, attempting to replicate the hairstylist's intricate twists and turns. Sarah's patience dwindled, and she fidgeted, making Joel's task even more intricate.
"Daddy, I wanna go play!" Sarah insisted, tugging at Joel's sleeve.
"Just a moment, sweetheart. We're almost finished," Joel said, determination etched on his face.
In the kitchen, amidst the remnants of detangling spray and hairbrushes, Joel made a decision. "Alright, sweetheart, how about we go on a little adventure?"
Sarah's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Adventure? Where are we going?"
"To the store," Joel declared, scooping up Sarah into his arms. "We're going to find the perfect things for your beautiful hair."
Tumblr media
The fluorescent lights of the store illuminated rows of hair care products. Joel, pushing a cart with Sarah seated in the front, navigating towards the hair care section, a world of colorful bottles and promising labels. Sarah, nestled in the cart, scanned the shelves with wide-eyed enthusiasm.
"Okay, sweetheart, we need something that will make your curls happy. What do you think?" Joel asked, examining the array of products.
"Maybe that one!" Sarah pointed to a bottle with a picture of cheerful curls on it.
Joel hesitated, reading the fine print. "Hmm, let's see."
As he tried to decipher the mysterious language of hair care ingredients, Sarah giggled, her small hands reaching for another bottle.
"No, Daddy, this one! It has sparkles!" she insisted, pointing to a bottle that promised an extra touch of magic.
Joel chuckled, appreciating his daughter's keen eye. "Sparkles it is, then. A touch of magic for those beautiful curls."
Next, they ventured into the accessories aisle, a paradise of colors and shapes. Sarah's eyes widened at the sight of butterfly clips, hair bands, and ribbons.
"Look, Daddy! Butterflies!" she exclaimed.
Joel chuckled, appreciating the simplicity of his daughter's joy. "Butterflies it is, then! Pick out your favorites, sweetheart."
Sarah carefully selected a handful of butterfly clips in different colors, her eyes shining with delight. Each choice felt like a treasure unearthed in their quest for the perfect adornments. Joel watched, a sense of pride welling up as his daughter made her choices.
Back home, with their newfound treasures, Joel and Sarah settled in the living room. Armed with the chosen hair care product and the butterfly clips, Joel embarked on the next part of their quest.
"Now, let's try this magic potion first," Joel said, spraying the detangling spray.
As the mist settled on Sarah's curls, Joel gently worked his way through the tangles. Each stroke of the comb was a small victory, the detangling spray making the curls more manageable. Sarah, now more patient, sat with anticipation, her eyes fixed on the transformation.
"And for the finishing touch..." Joel added the butterfly clips.
Sarah beamed as the colorful butterfly clips were delicately placed, turning her curls into a whimsical masterpiece. Each clip held a story, a choice made with joy and excitement.
"Look, Daddy! I'm a butterfly princess!" she exclaimed.
"You sure are, sweetheart. A butterfly princess with the most beautiful curls in the world," Joel said, smiling.
