So I was listening to the new Warframe Isleweaver soundtrack, and this song in particular REALLY caught me.

We dont currently have any instances of violin/viola that I can think of in warframes sound track that are that prevalent, and I was like, hmm. It uses Duviri's/the drifter's theme, but not in the regular way, and other than that its all over the place, its Kinda... lacking in regulation. It's highs and lows and oh my god its Thrax, isnt it.

Anyway. Now there's an image in my head of Thrax playing what I'm currently thinking of as a 5 string violin/viola combo that'd cover the whole register here, and atm I'm oscillating btween violinthi and vilthiari

I think the primary reason in universe that the ic could easily write off the plight of HC/Illyria despite having severe personal reasons to never allow it to happen again is the fact that velaris exists and they spend their time and money there.

What I'm trying to say is that they don't have to look at the side effects that their inactions caused unless they want to. And since they don't unless they need something from the very people they condemned, the ic can spend time patting themselves on the back by getting blackout drunk at Rita's. Velaris is basically a filter on their reality, where responsibility and consequences don't exist for the group as government officials.

(There's an argument that could be made about windhaven functioning the same way, but I'd say it's a little more insidious than that; windhaven is a performance, with the inhabitants as unwitting actors in a grander show)

If the inner circle's respective roles forced them to be in the same environments they neglected, with the magic of the land binding them to the seats, all of them (with the exception of rhysand and armen) would be changing their tune. Mor wouldn't get away with wearing red to flaunt her superiority if she had to be present binding and burying every single child bride in Hewn, looking as if she's eager to send someone else to the slaughter. Cassian wouldn't make a show of buying blankets for poor families being all he can do if he had to share those winters without protection or infrastructure, the same ones that killed bastards unluckier than him. Azriel would be pissed at rhysand constantly if he could only be in dungeons of those imprisoned, reliving his childhood on loop as he forgets the difference of his victims keening in pain between his own.

Do I think they'd change for altruistic reasons? Not really. But their agreement to rhysand's "change takes time" would drastically change if they were equally as affected by the "takes time" part like everyone else.

i know there's a whole merlin queerbait discourse which is not what im going to get into but i do find it interesting that a lot of people use the excuse that 'the bbc didn't want any gayness' or 'the 2000s were unaccepting of lgbt characters/stories' and of course that is true, but most of my memories of early british tv include lgbt characters or storylines.

SO many times i think about some of the shows i used to watch as a child and realise queer characters and stories were included, but i never paid much attention to it until im thinking back and it's like 'omg they had that in early 2000s?! that's insane but so cool.'

there was doctor who, torchwood, eastenders, skins, hollyoaks etc. and like the first three shows mentioned are considered 'family' shows. those are just some from the top of my head and im sure there were some niche cbbc related short series which had queer characters/storylines too.

it absolutely isn't wrong to say there was a lack of queerness on tv because of homophobia. without a doubt that's true, but at the same time it's annoying to see people imply there were no lgbt stories back then

as they grew, they realized there was a distinct discomfort that they were not familiar with. eloise eventually came to terms with her identity as a woman, rather than the boy she grew up as. while some in the crows were less than understanding, the ones who mattered the most to her were.

after their ordeal putting a stop to a ring of antaam slavers and being sent away from the crows for a time, eloise took a contract with varric tethras to assist in stopping 'the dread wolf.'

while eloise did not consider herself the heroic type, she dedicated her heart and soul to their hunt - eventually bonding with lucanis over their shared occupation, as well as their regrets and troubled pasts. though there were many things that made the two crows different, including eloise's impotence when it came to cooking (much to lucanis' horror), there was in fact more that proved they were much the same. eloise was more the forward type, often using attempts to 'charm' others and in fact flirting with many of their lighthouse companions, lucanis was one of the few who disarmed her act. while the both of them were hesitant to face a relationship that could be truly real, they grew closer and closer throughout their mission.

i honestly don’t think anything compares to having your friends feel welcome and comfortable in your own home. that big smile on their face as they look around and you let them, feeling on display because they’ve never seen you like this, not really, and you wonder if they will find this lacking, if they will find you lacking. but they don’t. because they’re smiling and they’re complimenting you and you can watch a tiny part of them falling in love with this home just like you did the very first time you found it. when it’s all still a work in progress because it’s always a work in progress, but you’re both at ease now because this is your home and that is your friend and somewhere in the universe there pops up the thought that by proxy, this is their home as well if they so choose. for a while at least. for as long as they’ll stay.

I'd like to propose a new rule for fandom:

If you have the time and energy to complain that there are not enough people writing the types of fanfiction that you want to see because they are daring to enjoy themselves by writing other things that you personally don't like to read, then you also have the time and energy to sit down at your keyboard and write it yourself and are, by default, volunteering yourself to do so.

"Everybody is too obsessed with [popular ship]! Nobody's writing for my favorite ship!"

Then write it yourself.

"Everybody's writing SHIP and SMUT fics! I want something else!"

Then write it yourself.

"Why isn't anyone writing super in-depth 200 chapter fics with fully realized plots and character development?!"

Because that takes time and energy that not everyone is willing to invest in a hobby they're partaking in for fun. Oh yeah, and WRITE IT YOURSELF if you want it so damn bad.

There's nothing wrong with feeling frustrated that you can't find what you're looking for because you have specific taste, or perhaps your taste is different from that of the majority of the fandom. This is fine and understandable and I completely relate! But once you start complaining that the only reason people won't write what you want them to is because they're "lazy", "unoriginal", or any other insult you might think is clever, then what you're doing is demanding other people put down what they're doing to serve YOU.

Fanworks are shared with you, not made for you. Unless commissioned, fanfiction is not a commercial product and it is not held to any standards of excellence. It has an inherent right to be as polished or as messy, as defined or as vague, as the author pleases. All works of fiction about fictional characters have an innate right to exist. Your ideas are no different, but it is on you to bring those ideas into existence.

Your options are to find the fics you like, commission an author (under the table of course), or write it yourself. These things are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. NOBODY ELSE'S.

I wanted to know how do you interpret Tanya's gender. After reading chapter 58 of the manga i got the impression that she is definitely trans coded, but maybe thats just me

Very good question.

To be honest, when I think too hard about Tanya’s gender (and sexuality, for that matter) it gives me brain worms. Fun brain worms, but brain worms nonetheless. I can’t explain it. Everything she’s got going on is complicated as shit there’s way too much to think about.

Like, she was a man, but now she's a girl. But at some points she says she still sees herself as a man internally so is this MtFtM? How does that work. And if she accepts she's a woman now, is that just MtF or do we add more letters. More importantly: Was Being X being Transphobic or being the Greatest Trans Ally of All Time with the free divinely issued sex change.

Ok ok, jokes aside. Confession: I actually do not keep up with the manga, so I had to go find the chapter and read it first. Having read it now though, I see what you mean.

The conversation she has with the Salaryman/herself in that chapter really does read as essentially saying “I’ve accepted who I am now.” It’s a far cry from a much earlier part of the manga I remember where she has a breakdown about being a man/people seeing her as a girl.

A friend of mine was actually showing me stuff from more recent chapters of the manga (don’t know which chapter tragically, but I know it’s not currently translated to English) and from what I gathered of it, Being X was showing Tanya a dream of being back in her past life and in response she basically demanded to go back to being Tanya immediately. It is definitely not just you, I 100% see the trans-coding you’re talking about.

As for my personal interpretation of her gender, I touched very briefly on it once before, but I honestly think she wouldn’t want to label herself as anything. At first, this is out of hesitance and not wanting to acknowledge that anything might be ““wrong”” or ““different”” about her. Later on it turns into character growth, more along the lines of, “I don’t need the label to define me, I just am what I am/like what I like. I don’t care about it any more than that.” Yes this is 100% projection on my part. No, I won’t apologize for it lmao.

Of course, that's entirely my own headcanon. I definitely am not saying it’s the only way to interpret her, it’s just my personal thoughts. Especially since my opinion is subject to change on a dime depending on what I’m reading/working on myself. The Tanya gender is, in fact, transient, shifting like water.

Like. A transfem Tanya fic that focuses on her adapting to life in her new world and coming to discover she doesn’t actually hate her new body? I’d totally read that. I’ve seen a few fics that include that as a part of the narrative and those scenes of acceptance were among my favorite parts.

I get the feeling this is the route that the manga is going as well. It’s a bit of a shame that we don't have those aforementioned scenes in the light novel (or at least, I don't remember them), but I don’t think that Carlo Zen really intended that to be the focus/narrative in the first place. And honestly, I also think that’s a good thing because it allows for so much more room for interpretation and headcanon around Tanya’s character.

Anyway, the other direction is also compelling to me. A transmasc Tanya fic where, after feeling uncomfortable and hating how feminine he looks for years and years, he finally goes ‘Fuck this, I’m gonna go back to being a man’? I would read the fuck out of that too.

Could also be paired with him finally choosing to defect, where they think about it like, ‘Well there’s nothing to hold me back now, right? I don’t have to maintain appearances anymore. Also, since I’m defecting this would be a great way to hide myself. They’d all be looking for the wrong person. Two birds with one stone, how efficient.’ …Now we’re getting to fic ideas I won’t ever get to so it’s time to move on I think.

Semi-related to the Trans Tanya Concept, this actually brings me to a bit of a lore/headcanon/idea/question I want to present to the public for opinions. In Norden, during the inciting battle of the war, Tanya uses magic to “dope up” so she could enhance her strength and reaction time and kill pain. I took this to mean she used a formula to synthesize the narcotics/adrenaline hormone/whatever else directly into herself, right?

Can you see where I’m going with this? As long as you know which hormones to make, how they’re made up, and what quantities you need… Well, don’t you think magic HRT is completely possible? Of course, as I'm not sure it makes sense for Salaryman to have known the detailed specifics about it from the modern world, it would require a lot of in-universe research/science advancement for someone to actually do that, but theoretically...

The magic system in this universe has so much potential to be explored, I’m fascinated by what you can theoretically do with it. Although, this is long and off-topic already I think this should be the end, lol.
