Wade's marriage proposal to Callie (in the most dorky way😅)

AAAAAHHHH it is cute just by thinking about

I just LOVE these two🥰🥰

Oh, now there's a fun thing to think about.

It goes one of two ways, depending on the universe.

In the original 'verse, where she has Silver and Eclipse, Wade goes to the boys to see if it's okay with them. (They love him, so he knows it'll be okay, he just wants to make sure they're on board with it, especially Eclipse, who doesn't generally like surprises.)

He sits them down while Callie's off picking up a pizza or something.

"So, I wanted to talk to you guys about something."

Silver tilted his head, brow furrowed. "What?"

"WHO TOLD YOU???"

The two turned to Eclipse, and Wade furrowed his own brow. "Told me what?"

Silence settled over them, and Eclipse pulled his lips tight. "Nothing. Nevermind."

Okay, this was something Wade would definitely need to revisit, likely as backup for Callie. But nevermind, he had something more important to discuss.

"You guys know how much I like your mom, right?" The boys nodded. "And I think she likes me too, right?" Another nod. "Well, sometimes, when two people really, really like each other, they--"

"YOU'RE HAVING A BABY??"

This time all attention went to Silver, and Wade's eyes widened.

"Not that I'm aware of. Did Callie say something?"

Silver shook his head. "No, but it sounded like you were going to give us 'The Talk' and that usually means someone's gonna have a baby in the movies."

Eclipse frowned. "What talk?"

Silver blushed slightly, turning to his brother. "You know . . . where babies come from."

The darkling's brow furrowed. "I thought human babies came from sex. Not talking."

"No, I mean Wade was gonna tell us about sex--"

"I'm not giving you 'The Talk'!" This was spiraling very quickly, and Wade could feel his own cheeks burn the longer it went on. "I want to ask your mother to marry me!"

Silence returned, and the two boys stared at him. His blush burned hotter, crawling up to cover his ears.

Then Silver's face broke into an impossibly wide grin, and he squealed.

"You're gonna be our dad!!"

A little smile curled Wade's lips. "Yeah, if she says yes."

Another squeal from the hedgehog, and he launched himself to wrap his arms around Wade's neck.

"OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH! I'M GONNA HAVE A DAD!!"

Wade wrapped his own arms around Silver and gave him a hug as Eclipse sat still, his brow still furrowed. The deputy looked down at the boy, a tinge of worry in the back of his mind.

"Eclipse? You okay?"

The darkling looked up at him, the furrow deepening. "So . . . what about the baby?"

"THERE IS NO BABY!"

"Where is no baby?" Callie asked as she walked through the door. She balanced two pizzas in her arms as she kicked it closed. "What are you guys talking about?"

Eclipse hooked a thumb toward Wade. "He was going to give us The Talk because he's gonna have a baby." He paused. "I think."

She froze, her face contorted into confusion. "What??"

Wade practically shoved Silver off his lap as he leapt to his feet, hurrying over to take the pizzas from her.

"Hey, let's get these dished out before they get cold, huh? C'mon, I'm starving, let's eat and not talk for a while!"

Which continues into hilarious shenanigans as the boys try to help Wade set up the perfect scene to propose. Everything goes sitcomy sideways, until Callie's sure Wade has lost his ever loving mind, right before he proposes in the most dorky, adorable way possible.

Now, in my Knuckles MacPherson au, things would go a little differently.

Wade would still ask Knuckles for his blessing, and Knuckles, being the overprotective good boy he is, would demand Wade best him in Trial by Combat before he can win the right to ask his Me'na for her hand.

This concerns Wade, obviously, and he asks Callie about.

"Sooo . . . I was talking to Knux about . . . something, and he said I'll need to face him in Trial by Combat."

Callie rolled her eyes. "That boy. It's like his go-to way to solve anything. We were down to the last slice of pizza the other night and he pulled the 'Best me in Trial by Combat to claim the slice!' stuff."

"Whaddja do?"

She shrugged. "I accepted, but told him that because I was his elder, I reserved the right to choose what 'combat' we engaged in, and he agreed."

Wade nodded. He could work with that, he supposed. "What did you choose?"

"Rock paper scissors. Best three out of five."

"Oh, that's good."

She nodded. "Yep. Pure luck. No skill needed. He still won, but at least it was a more evenly matched battle."

So that's what Wade tries to do, but Knuckles refuses because Wade isn't his elder, he's his apprentice. A fellow warrior. And warriors do Trail by Combat the right way.

Cue the incredibly unevenly matched Trial, in which Knuckles--who's trying not to hurt Wade, not really--thrashes Wade at every turn. Cal gets a little annoyed at this, mostly because Knux can get a little competitive in these things.

Okay, a lot competitive.

After the last Trial, she steps in and declares it done. If they insist on doing another, it should be something they're evenly matched at, like Uno.

Segue into the Uno Game of Death.

It's a tense hour. They decided best two out of three games. Tension was thick in the air, and they stared each other down like an old west poker game.

The last moments of the final game. This was the tie breaker. Whomever won this, claimed the title of Champion.

Now, again, it could go one of two ways.

Wade wins. He slams his last card on the stack, stands up, points at Knuckles with a loud "HA!" before turning to Cal and yelling "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

Or, Knuckles wins, and Wade's feeling dejected because now he doesn't get Knux's blessing, and can't ask Callie to marry him.

Knux slams the last card on the stack, causing the table to shudder, before jumping up in his chair with his arms raised. "VICTORY IS MINE!"

He preens for a moment, before looking at Wade and nodding. "Now you may ask."

Wade blinks, looking up at him. "What? But . . . I lost."

"Of course you did. I am a fierce warrior, who is the master of every form of combat. You never stood a chance. But you kept trying. You didn't give up. And that proves your strength and courage, Wade Whipple. It proves that your heart is pure."

Knuckles nodded again, and gestured toward Callie. "You have won my blessing. Ask."

This catches Wade by surprise, and it takes him a few seconds to register what Knuckles said. Then he scrambles out of his chair, and turns to a confused Callie.

"Callie?" he said, taking her hands. "I want to . . ."

He cut himself off when he noticed he was still standing, and hurriedly went to one knee.

"You're so awesome. You're sweet, and kind, and funny, and stubborn, and about a billion other words I can't think of right now. You make me feel so good when we're together. So happy. And I always want to feel that way. I always want to make you feel that way. So . . . will you marry me?"

Callie stared at him, eyes wide and cheeks burning.

And she continued to stare.

Wade's smile faltered.

"Cal?"

Oh God. What if she didn't? What if she wasn't ready? They'd never really discussed marriage, like at all, what if she didn't want to? Oh she was just standing there staring at him this was a bad idea holy crap he was so stupi--

The thought was cut off when Callie dropped to her knees.

"Yes."

Wade blinked. "Yes?"

"Yes."

Now he stared at her. "You're sure?"

She rolled her eyes. "Wade, you fought my kid in Trial by Combat for two weeks. He gave you his blessing. And you . . . you make me happy, too. There's really no other answer I could give."

The two sat there, on their knees for another moment, before Wade laughed, pulling her to him in a tight embrace.

Then we get into wedding shenanigans. Because nothing ever goes smoothly.
