Daniel Cox at American Storylines:
This past weekend I participated in a panel discussion focused on Generation Z, the gender divide, and the political ramifications of the growing divergence between young men and women. At one point, the moderator asked a question I had never considered: “Is the gender divide less evident among young Christians?” On its face, the question seems very reasonable, and I said as much at the time. Although inter-denominational differences can be significant, many Christians share similar values that could potentially diminish the growing rift between young men and women. As it turns out, on many critical issues, young Christian men and women have decidedly different views. The gender gap in church is indeed growing. A few weeks ago, the Pew Research Center released their 2024 Religious Landscape Survey (RLS)—likely the most authoritative source of information on the state of American religion. It’s a massive study based on nearly 37,000 interviews that includes questions covering religious identity, practices, beliefs, and change. It also includes a number of measures on political and social attitudes. Because of the considerable size of the survey and its focus on religion, it provides a unique opportunity to tackle this question.1 Let’s start with abortion. More than six in ten (61 percent) young Christian women say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Less than half (48 percent) of young Christian men say the same. Young Christians are less supportive of legal abortion than their peers, but the drop off in support is substantially larger among men. The gender gap is even wider in views about homosexuality. Three-quarters of young Christian women say that homosexuality should be accepted by society, a view shared by less than half (49 percent) of young Christian men. That’s a 26-point gap. Young Christian women are also far more likely than men to support allowing gay and lesbian people to marry (75 percent vs. 57 percent). A majority (54 percent) of young Christian women say greater acceptance of transgender people is a positive development, but only 29 percent of young Christian men agree.
There’s some indication the gender gap among young Christians has gotten larger. A decade earlier, young Christian men and women were more aligned than they are today. In 2014, less than half of young Christian men (42 percent) and women (45 percent) said abortion should be legal in all or most cases. The gender gap in views of abortion has since quadrupled, with young Christian women becoming much more supportive of its legalization. This movement aligns with other surveys that show young women becoming increasingly supportive of abortion rights, especially after the Dobbs decision. Does this mean the growing gender divide among young Christians is due to young women moving left? Not so fast. When it comes to views on homosexuality the reverse is true. Young Christian women have hardly changed their views over the last decade, while young men have become less supportive. If the cultural divide has grown, how do young Christians’ attitudes compare when it comes to economics and the role of government? Here too, young Christian women are more progressive than men, but both groups are well to the left of older Christians. Three-quarters of young Christian women would prefer a larger government offering more public services. Nearly six in ten young Christian men say the same. Support is lower among young men, but they are far more supportive of a generous and active government than older Christian men. The Pew survey also shows double-digit divides in partisan affiliation and political ideology. Young Christian women are more than twice as likely as men to be liberal and substantially more likely to identify as a Democrat (15 percent versus 27 percent, respectively). [...] Rather, what seems likely is that young Christians are being exposed to the same cultural divides afflicting secular young people. Even if they attend the same church, the social context for young men and women is still quite different. Young Christian women have many more close friends who identify as LGBTQ than men, an experience that has a considerable influence on policy views. Social media habits may play a role as well. Social media algorithms increasingly segregate young women and men online; the content they are exposed to is often dramatically different, which may reinforce gender divisions. Finally, as marriage rates have fallen, even among Christians, there are fewer opportunities to learn more about the perspectives and experiences of the opposite sex in the context of a loving, trusting relationship. Louise Perry recently argued that the youth gender gap is better understood as a divide between single people. In many ways she’s right. The gender gap among single people dwarfs that among married couples.
Daniel Cox wrote in American Storylines about the gender gap on young Christian Americans (aged 18-24) on abortion and LGBTQ+-related issues in a survey conducted by Pew Research Center. The data revealed that young Christian women are more liberal than young Christian men.

collaboration spotlight — The Tea by Danny Gonzalez
youtube
Language is always in flux, and one of the more rapidly changing aspects is slang. Every few years, a new wave of words and phrases comes along to express specific concepts in new ways, and befuddle those not in the know. This love song somehow manages to cram most of the late 2010s popular vernacular into just a few minutes, with a tongue-in-cheek delivery that lets the listener in on the joke. The juxtaposition of an upper-crusty tea party as the setting for the video is simply delightful.
Details:
title: The Tea
performers: Danny Gonzalez, feat. Alli Fitz; Drew Gooden & Kurtis Connor (waiters); Chyna Staggs, Cassandra Ariel, Alexa Coelho, Brittany Dobbs Neff, Chris Ross, Michael Cerasoli, Clay DeHart, Daniel Martinez, Melanie Vanderford, & Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (partygoers)
written & arranged by: Danny Gonzalez
video produced by: PattyCake Productions
release date: 1 June 2019
My favorite bits:
the earnest delivery as they rattle off compliments that will soon become wildly outdated
Danny's deadpan "Yeet."
the actually sweet sentiment behind ♫ "tryna turn you from by bae to my fam" ♫
all the dance trends they included in the video
Alli's vocal skill as she repeatedly navigates between her head and chest registers
the surprise of everyone's wigs slipping off

Trivia:
The interior shots for this video were filmed at a tapas bar called Ceviche in downtown Orlando. Layne from PattyCake had also filmed VoicePlay's "Attention" music video at the same location two years earlier.
The audio track was included on Danny's "Bump This" EP, which had been released in late April.
As is often the case with modern slang terms, many of these turns of phrase originated in AAVE, and were then adopted into broader usage, losing some of their nuance along the way.
PattyCake fans might recognize a few of the partygoers. Cassandra Ariel has filled several roles across their series, beginning with Megara in the Princess Academy / Villains Lair crossover episode; Chris Ross plays Dr. Facilier in The Villains Lair; and Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie has been their LaFou since "Beauty and the Bieber".
VoicePlay fans may notice the colored globes in some of the rooftop shots, which Layne also used for their "True Colors" video that was released a month later.

2023 elections, a pretty damn good night.
Hello, if you're an American maybe you know there were some elections last night, here are some highlights
Rhode Island Special Election:
Gabe Amo was elected to Congress from Rhode Island's First Congressional district. The son of African immigrants (father from Ghana, mother from Liberia) Amo is the first black person to represent Rhode Island in Congress. His election brings the Congressional Black Caucus to a historic 60 members, an all time high.
Ohio Ballot measures:
In an overwhelming vote Ohio voters approved a ballot measure that puts the right to an abortion into the state constitution. This overturns the extremely restrictive abortion ban passed by the Republican state legislature in 2019 which was allowed to go into effect after the Supreme Court's Dobbs ruling.
A similarly overwhelming vote for a ballot measure legalizing marijuana in the state also passed last night. Both measures got about 57% of the vote in a state that voted for Trump 53-45% in 2020. It's being taken as a good sign for Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown's re-election campaign next year
Kentucky gubernatorial election:
Incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear sailed to victory over rising Republican State state Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Cameron had been vetted for the Supreme Court by Trump, was hand picked for the AG race and Governor's race by Mitch McConnell who its rumored wanted Cameron to replace him in the Senate one day. So this defeat is the end of the political life of what many Republicans hoped would be a star. Cameron and the KYGOP attacked Beshear for his support of trans rights, his veto of a trans care for minors ban, as well as his support for abortion and ran ads tying him to President Biden. Beshear won 53-47% in a state Trump won 62-36% in 2020.
Virginia Legislative elections:
Virginia's Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin hoped to take control of the Virginia State Senate from the Democrats who had a one seat majority in the upper house. If Youngkin could have done it he planned on passing abortion restrictions and anti-trans laws and use it to prove his future Presidential ambitions. Virginia Democrats not only held onto the Senate Senate they expanded their control by picking up 22 seats. Also special, Danica Roem the first openly trans person elected to a state legislature back in 2017 when she was elected to the Virginia state House won her race to become Virginia's first trans state senator. Not only did Democrats hold onto the State Senate, they took control of the State House as well, going from 48 seats to 51. A strong rebuke to Youngkin's Republican agenda and boxing him in for the last two years of his Governorship
Pennsylvania Supreme Court election:
In Pennsylvania Democrat Daniel McCaffery beat out Republican Carolyn Carluccio for a seat on the state Supreme Court. This secures a Democratic majority on the court ahead of year of challenges to abortion rights and ahead of the 2024 elections where Republicans will surely try to challenge the state's election results in court.
New Jersey Legislative elections:
Democrats already controlled the NJ State House and Senate but last night they managed to pick up more seats in both. Including flipping what was generally considered the deepest red district in the state. The 30th District went to Republicans 72% in the last election. However this time a Jewish Democrat Rabbi Avi Schnall won one of the district's two seats beating a Republican incumbent by 10 points.
I'm sure lots of other cool things happened last night in local elections and ballot measures across the country but those were the one's I noticed.

It's not even a couple of weeks, though. We actually have a precise timeline of the the second interview and it's nowhere near that long. When Molloy starts recording the first session, he announces the date as June 14th, 2022. And in the second season finale, the paper in which Rashid delivers the trial script with Armand's notes has a headline reporting the Dobbs anti-abortion supreme court decision, which was handed down on June 24th, 2022. If we assume that headline ran the next day, the entire second interview spans only eleven days.
That's right. Daniel Molloy, powered only by his complete intolerance of bullshit, managed to outsmart a centuries-old supernatural creature with mind-altering powers and wreck his eighty-year marriage founded in lies and brainwashing in a mere week and a half.
he saw right through his lies..
