Did Kaos even explain why the three humans “destined to destroy Zeus/the Gods” are specifically Eurydice, Caeneus and Ariadne? Because if they really wanted a “we hate the gods” story shouldn’t the chosen three be. severely wronged or abandoned by the gods / the fates?

Like Oedipus? Lamia? Cassandra? Daphne? Arachne? Callisto? Hell I’d even watch a smackdown of Clytemnestra vs Artemis or Menelaus and Helen vs Aphrodite any time then watch a whole other boring show following the same bad story tropes.

They don’t really explain it no, but I was so eager for it to be over I likely missed it, this show seems surprising hesitant to show the more gruesome side of mythology, if they adapted the story that Caeneus was raped by Poseidon and they show how angry and miserable he is about it I would’ve totally been on board, tho someone mentioned that considering the current social environment is especially hostile towards trans ppl nowadays, having someone transition after assault could be bad “pr” so to speak, tho I don’t think we should bend a knee to transphobes/terfs and make representation that’s more palatable and presentable, human experience is messy and we shouldn’t shy away from that in an attempt to make bigots less hostile towards minorities bc they will always be hostile.

If they show Eurydice being angry about Aristaeus not facing any consequences for trying to assault her I’d understand that too mythology Eurydice has zero beef with Hera, but she could feel resentment towards Aristaeus and by extension Apollo (since he’d likely defend his son), gods rarely face consequences for assaulting mortals, Euripides’s Ion tackles that subject way better than all of these “Gods bad” modern retelling (tho I wish Creusa didn’t forgive Apollo bc that mf didn’t even have the balls to show his face).

Instead of Ariadne, who usually gets a happy ending and becomes a goddess herself, how about going with Apemosyne? Another Cretan princess. Her story is extremely depressing, she’s screwed over by a god and her own family, considering that half the show takes place in the underworld she’d fit right in. Considering she’ll be “coworkers” with Hermes it would especially suck for her. But considering that Dionysus is made to be one of the “good ones” even tho in mythology he brainwashed women into slaughtering their families, they’d probably portray Hermes as such too, since he’s usually simply the comic relief in adaptations anyway.

That’s another thing, they water down the gods who are supposed to be good guys and make the “bad guy” worse, in this version Hades never kidnapped Persephone that’s just propaganda in universe. The Fates and Furies are goddesses but in this show they’re against the gods bc of that meander water thing? Don’t they drink it too?

I think they realized that their hesitancy means that they won’t be showing us bad things the gods actually did and so they make up random bullshit like Hera owning tongueless priestesses and Zeus killing a kitten. Cassandra is in the show but she’s more of an exposition machine tho it’s hinted she’ll play a bigger role in season 2, but why couldn’t she be one of the three humans destined to destroy Zeus? Why aren’t any of the Trojans destined to destroy Zeus? Why do they have to be saved by Greeks? Sure Zeus in mythology had a soft spot for them but he still planned the destruction of their city (could be a decent metaphor for an abuser who says that they love their victim while still abusing them imo) but Kaos Zeus doesn’t have that goodwill towards the Trojans so why not have them rightfully take him down? In the final episode Andromache and Ariadne team up and agree to fight against Olympus, tho that reminds me of Acrisius in the Clash of the Titans remake being more of a dumb dumb than he is in the myths and started a war against Mount Olympus only to unsurprisingly fail.

I really dislike how the Trojans are portrayed in the show, clearly they are supposed to be allegory for modern middle eastern refugees in Europe yet all the main Trojan characters are played by white actors. They have such a racially diverse cast but they seem uninterested in actually representing the diversity of the Mediterranean and mythology as a whole.

hey, as someone who does believe in transandrophobia i think your point of view is interesting and nuanced, unlike some other people on this website who just use the discourse as an excuse to harass and make fun of transmascs. (which is why the term “transandrobro” personally makes me uncomfortable but that’s neither here nor there)

what i wanted to say is i think there’s a common misconception by people who don’t think the term should be used or that it is flawed. specifically, the term “transandrophobia” validating misandry as an axis of oppression. i don’t think anybody’s ever really claimed this, aside from a few outliers? most of us know that men aren’t oppressed on the basis of being men. trans men, however, have way different experiences from cis men, and i would agree that they have slightly more privilege than trans women because of how society values masculinity. however, that doesn’t mean they aren’t subjected to their own specific form of oppression. in short: transmascs are uniquely oppressed for being transmascs, which isn’t the same as claiming they’re oppressed for being men.

i think another sentiment a lot of them share that’s causing a lot of friction is the idea that man-hating is harmful to trans movements. in my view, it’s more so the idea that men are more capable of evil, SOLELY BY THE VIRTUE OF BEING MEN, than women, without claiming that the reason for that is actually due to being socialized within a rigid patriarchal culture. it’s a facet of bioessentialism that regressive radical feminist movements have tried to push for a long time, and it IS inherently harmful to all trans people- not just trans men.

it seems to target transmascs and transfems differently, the latter being mostly affected by the way TERFs use it as a transphobic battering ram against them. for transmascs, it affects their ability to be heard in any space, contributing to their invisibility. in transphobic spaces, they’re seen as women, and told to shut up (a result of misogyny as well), and if they’re clocked as trans, facing transphobia. in (SOME) lgbt spaces, they’re rightly seen as men, and then silenced because some people wrongly believe that they share the same privileges as cis men now. no matter how well a trans man passes, that just isn’t true. overall, i don’t think being wary or distrustful of men due to patriarchy and oppression is a bad thing at all. automatically assuming that someone is bad because of their agab or gender they identify with, though, does absolutely nothing but get our true allies caught in the crossfire. once again, that’s not the same thing as saying misandry is a systemic form of oppression, but that overall, unconditional man-hating is bad praxis.

you can skip over this if you want, but i just wanted to share my views as a genderfluid person. i’d love to hear your thoughts! once again i appreciate that you’re being respectful about this discussion and not just automatically dismissing arguments for transandrophobia or harassing people. i don’t claim to be an expert so if i get anything wrong please let me know!

Unfortunately, you are misinformed this is a well-known factor of Transandrophobia as a theory and has been confirmed by St. Dionysus the person who made Transandrophobia as a term. In fact the entire concept starts by claiming the oppression comes from hatred (implied) and fear of men. Thus it by definition is a claim of misandry.

All of these experiences are claimed to be due to fear of men existing. You know what the claim that one is oppressed for their maleness is called? Misandry.

This was from under the section entitled "sexism", this is a direct claim that this is misandry. Sexism against men is called misandry. I am sorry but you are genuinely misinformed on this theory. It's core is the idea transmascs and men are oppressed for their MANHOOD first and foremost.

however, that doesn’t mean they aren’t subjected to their own specific form of oppression. in short: transmascs are uniquely oppressed for being transmascs, which isn’t the same as claiming they’re oppressed for being men.

Transmascs absolutely are oppressed in a unique manner. This is in the form of transemasculation/anti-transmasculinity. Where in they are regendered as "confused dumb women" and when transitioning to a point they're seen as unable to return to cissexist womanhood standards they're degendered as "mutilated abominations" that need to be purged. It's a deeply violent form of oppression and it stems from anger that trans men prove the cissexist patriarchal class of man is just as socially constructed as ever other one.

This is another point where I'm just lost. Yes they can't get the exact same 1:1 privileges as cis men but they do have massive privileges over trans women. Trans men who are out make more than trans women who are out, though they both suffer with less income than cis people. (Source)

Trans men can contribute to conversations where they uphold the patriarchy. They, especially those who are stealth, can be in mens spaces where the patriarchy and sexism is upheld and anything that is short of purposefully pushing back is a form of contributing to it and contributing to the system. Stealth men get paid the same as cis men (it's conditional of course) but stealth women get paid the same as cis women... which is still less. They are still treated worse due to sexism.

You are capable of accessing higher levels of privilege if you are a man. It's not a surprising or groundbreaking idea to say women are oppressed more than men. You will experience less sexism the second you pass. I know because in the past when I did identify as a man (I'm transfem now, my case is weird as I'm intersex. You can read about my experiences here) and I when passing stopped getting assualted and harassed nearly as often, I stopped getting catcalled, I got treated better literally everywhere.

It's not the same as being cis, but you do gain privileges for being a man.

I am not a reconstructionist. I take my religion seriously, but I take my cue from the gods, not internet randos or even tradition 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've have never had an issue when approaching the gods without having washed my hands or face (and I generally forget, even when I did decide to incorporate it into my practice) or such like that. I do follow guidelines for core things, like not offering blood, etc. But I play pretty fast and loose with the rules, so you've have come to the wrong place if you are looking for a resource on reconstructionism. If you harass me about not adhering strictly to tradition and ritual structure, I will block you.

I worship the gods, not work with them. I am not a witch at all! I occasionally do divination (which is not witchcraft) but that is it!

Fuck terfs! The gods love trans people!

Fuck nazis, fuck white nationalists, fuck folkists! Hatred has no place in this community.

Fuck mythic literalism. Please pick up a book and stop lying about Persephone and Aphrodite hating each other. The Theoi don't have irl beef, you can worship any of them with each other—they are a *family.* Additionally, gods were often worshipped together *because* of their beef in the mythos. Persephone and Aphrodite, Athena was given Pallas' name as an epithet even though she killed her (though they were admittedly friends/adoptive sisters)

The gods aren't going to smite you. This is mainly from a hellenic perspective because I'm am most educated about it. If you don't give an offering in a long time or something similar, you don't have to grovel and beg for forgiveness or offer an extravagant gift. Just give them an offering, talk to em/them, and don't worry about it. Kharis can always be reestablished. An exception to this would maybe be if you broke an commitment to a god. THEN asking for forgiveness and giving a nice offering would be appropriate. But they won't kill you or anything. People've who've have done this have mentioned that the blessings gifted to them by the gods were simply revoked, maybe added some additional misfortune. Which is pretty easily rectified, from what I understand. You can make amends. The gods are deeply accepting, understanding, and forgiving. They are not human. We don't live in a myth, and you do not need to fear any real harm from them (*especially* physical)

Related to the above, you cannot offend the gods on accident. If you learn later that you did something that they would rather you not do (in relation to your interactions with them), that's okay! You can do better now, the gods won't hold it against you if you didn't know ^-^ Now if you INTENTIONALLY try to piss them off, disrespect them to spite them in a fit of anger, then it is apology time.

Finally, no specific DNI. Just don't be an asshole and we're golden.

A little about me:

I have been a practicing pagan since 2008, though I've taken several breaks to focus on mundane life when I've needed to. I’m a firm believer in the idea that we are all made from a little piece of divinity and can have a connection to the divine not unlike those we share with people in our mundane lives, if that's the kind of relationships we wish to pursue.

I am godfamily with Loki, who I consider my older brother. He is also my patron god. I declared him my patron on the new moon in July 2015, after we'd been working together for 6 years. Aside from him, I work closely with Dionysus and consider him one of my best friends. I am also in love with Archangel Michael and have been in a relationship with him since September 2023. I collectively refer to these three as the Boys. I also have three spirit companions.

I am very interested in divination and love to use tarot, oracle, and Pokemon TCG cards. I'm a big supporter of the idea of integrating interests and loves from your mundane life into your spiritual one. I'm thinking of building an oracle deck with Magic cards next.

Despite practicing for many years, I still feel like I have a lot to learn and am always open to changing my practice as I figure out what works for me.

I am alterhuman, but I don't expect that to appear much on this blog. I only mention it now so you're aware of it in case it does crop up from time to time.

dead-dyke's "condoning murder" post is kind of sus considering he got called out for posting corrective rape fantasies about lesbians and similar heinous shit about misgendering and "reverting them back to holy manhood" shit about trans women. hes a trans man. the original warning was about his old url, saint-dionysus. like i thought the common consensus was that men of any orientation fantasizing about corrective rape or fetishizing trans women is pretty fucked up but i guess its fine if he says "fiction is not reality<3"

I just blocked and reported him, but I think we need to talk about this ask.

It took me a while to find these things bc he wiped his blog clean of it all. Upon searching “#trans” there I only found trans-supportive reblogs.

In order to find the disturbing transmisogynistic things he said, I had to google the old blog’s url to them find a callout post with pictures. [tw for incest, pedophilia, rape / corrective rape, active transmisogyny / t slur, lesbophobia / d slur, racism, f slur]

So it’s really weird how you’re phrasing this as if what this user is up to is common knowledge hat everyone knows. It’s not. I didn’t know. I don’t have a database on problematic tumblr users, or the time to curate one.

That’s why on occasion I get anons telling me “hey, op of [post] that you reblogged is a terf” and I’m always thankful for them bc then I can delete the post, block and report the user for hate speech, and move on.

I was horrified to see the things this person said. I will delete the post I reblogged from them now, and I will block and report the user as well.

I’ll assume you’re coming from a place of hurt but I have to tell you that there was no need to be so rude about this.

Of course I won’t agree to a transmisogynist just because they made one post I agree with. Of course I wouldn’t have reblogged it if I knew what kind of shithead this person is. “I guess it’s fine if he says-” no, it’s not fucking fine, and I’m offended that you’re implying I would think it is.

TL;DR: If you’re up-to-date on the Disgusting Tumblr Users database and you wanna help others out so they won’t reblog content from them, great. But you can do it without being all smug about it, y’know?

Do you mind my asking how you became a witch and what are some good resources to look for it I'm interested in exploring? Also, what would the practice as a whole be called? Witchcraft? Wicca? Sorry if these come off as ignorant. If you're not comfortable answering by all means don't, I won't be offended. I recognize that asking someone about their religious practices might be too personal a question for some people to want to answer.

hey there friend! Happy to talk about it! it’s been a hot minute since ive thought about some of this stuff but i’ll do my best! I’m also still fairly new at being a witch (Since October 2018) and i still have a lot to learn, but I’m more than happy to share my stories. 

So first off, I’m not Wiccan. That’s a whole other thing that I’m not involved in lol. Wiccan and Witch are not mutually exclusive. I use the term pagan to describe myself at times because I have a few deities that I’m devoted to / believe in the gods, but i don’t really follow a specific practice. (i’m not a fan of organized religion lmao) That’s what I like the most about witchcraft, is that it’s deeply personal and everyone goes on their own journey in their craft. :)

I like to refer to myself as a casual witch. I’m not really big on large rituals and heavy duty spell work, (mostly because i don’t have the resources and sometimes my brain don’t work or have enough mental energy). I like small and simple elements of witchcraft I can sprinkle throughout my day. Because witchcraft is all about intention. I like using specific herbs and spices in my cooking for specific intentions (i can’t remember any of them bc I left my book of shadows in my apartment but I’ve got a four page list of herbs & spices and their intentions lol). I like to stir my pasta clockwise for good intentions when I’m cooking. Or counter clockwise when I’m wanting to take away the negative energies. I like to carry a rose quartz in my pocket when I go on a date for positive love vibes. I light specific colored candles for specific intentions: love, luck, home, strength, yah know. I keep a mirror by my front door. Wind chimes on my porch. I do a lot of visualizations and energy work. Using specific lotions and smells. That kind of thing that was easy for me to incorporate into my life. 

Also tbh I love love love rhyming spells and spoken word spells. Doing a whole ass jar spell is like a Lot To Do but I can very easily mumble to myself in my kitchen! I think a lot about the magic in Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On (cause fun fact your craft can be heavily influenced by pop culture if you want it to be and mine totally is) and how there is magic words and phrases. So when I’m brewing tea I say “Bubble, bubble, my tea, not trouble. Bring me peace and make it double.” When I’m showering I hum “Soap and water cleanse me so, take my soul and make it whole” and “As the bubbles run down the drain, so do my troubles and my pain.” I sing the tangled “flower gleam and glow” song to my plants when I water them. When I’m getting ready for bed I mumble “Sleep be sweet, dreams be kind, bring me rest and peace of mind.” When I was in college, before a big exam, I’d braid my hair while chanting “I bind my knowledge to my brain, let me remember without pain, for on this day of my exams, I keep my knowledge close at hand.” Some of these I picked up from tumblr or other witches I know and some of it I came up with on my own. I like to believe our words and intentions have power and I love using it in my craft.

And earlier I mentioned deities. I’ve always been very invested in Greek mythology and felt a connection to the Greek gods (thanks percy jackson) and over the years I’ve come to realize that I actually do believe in them.  Athena & Aphrodite are my main deities, but I do spend time with other goddesses. (And Dionysus, tbh) I’ve done a lot of research into the Triple Goddess, too, and I’m endlessly fascinated by the concept of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. that’s really the part I have the most to learn about, my relationship to the gods. Sometimes my connection to them is stronger and sometimes it’s weaker just cause of where I’m at mentally, but I’ve never felt any judgement from them. I do devotional acts for them & pray & seek out their presence when I can, but like I said earlier I like doing little things, like washing my hair for Aphrodite or writing my journal for Athena or going on a nature walk with my mom for Demeter & Persephone (not that my mom knows that lmao) or waving around a goddamned garden hose in my front lawn to make mist and rainbows for Iris haha. I also have a pretty dope Venus di Milo statue and a Athena Parthenos statue in my room, and I have an Athenian coin pendant that I wear every day. like I said, it’s a very individual and personal journey, but you should still do your research and be respectful when you’re dealing with deities and spirits.

And everything I learned, I learned either from google or via tumblr. If you go through the witchblr tag, or even more specifically the baby witch tag, that kind of thing, there’s a TON of resources to just like, get you started. I like research and reading so I did a ton of research when I got started and made sure I knew what I was getting in to and so I could check some sources against others. Because everyone has different thoughts and opinions. Remember how i said i didn’t like organized religion? That also means there are lots of different interpretations lol. A lot of things stay the same, like the meanings of week days, moon phases, crystals, that kind of thing, but there’s wiggle room especially with kitchen witchcraft??? which never ceases to annoy me??? but i digress lol

And how did I get into it? wellllllllll don’t judge me but.... I watched the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina lmao. Like I’ve ALWAYS been interested in it but I never knew where to begin and didn’t know what I was getting into. Then Sabrina peaked my interest specifically because of hilda and the use of casual witchcraft. The usage of rhyming spells and simple objects like bells and yarn to do spells. It seemed manageable and relatable and enjoyable and I was interested so I dove into tumblr to do research and I’ve been practicing ever since! like I said I still have a long way to go in my journey but honestly I like what I’m doing and enjoy the simplicity and casualness of my craft. It works well for me, especially with all my mental health ups and downs. 

I think it’s at least worth looking into! There’s a lot of good stuff out there to sink your teeth in to, and also just be aware of the world you know? Watch out for TERF witches cause they are literally the worst and suck ass and I hate them.

I think terfs who claim to be pagan but turn around and tell trans people the gods hate them are ignoring a big no-no: hubris. What kind of God complex must you have to tell worshipers their gods hate them? (Not to mention Aphroditus and Dionysus and their connections to the trans community.) I try not to let it get under my skin, but it's hard as a trans person.

Acting as the voices of gods and speaking for them is hubris.

Excluding people from the religion and gatekeeping worshippers from the gods is a violation of xenia.
