It’s nice to get art compliments in the wild but sometimes they raise questions.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been drawing? Btw love your work
It’d probably be around 10/15 years now, though, realistically I’ve been drawing for all 22 years of my life, but I guess I started taking it like more “seriously” when I was like 8ish and really into pokemon. Fun fact: gravity falls was what got me really interested in animation! Here’s a redraw of an old thing I drew too :)

it’s getting so bad I somehow fell asleep and woke up 2 minutes later with infinite wisdom
Nightmare Jackson knows something. Hes planning on taking Jackson’s place forever, knowing no one would miss him.
Myra will pass, and in her will she leaves chase something. A small antique key she found when she was a girl. She knew he would know what to do with it, as she did when she was young.
Prunella and Deacon wake in the void. Prunella is haunted with nightmares shes had before, Deacon with his mistakes.
Prunellas mother has a key as well. She uses it avidly, to forget the past.

It’s spa dayyyy
It’s been a day for everyone, everyone is tired and it’s been a long day, so what is the best way to help with that? Spa day!
Mable was the first to do this, after seeing How tired everyone and how moody they were. Obviously this would not stand with her, no, they must be helped!
She got all the necessities, face masks (of all different colors and fruits), nail polishes, fun little games, and of course popcorn so they could all watch a movie.
Gaz, who had seen Mable going around and grabbing everything and looking like a feral animal, decided to help. And to be fair the man loves his skin care.
So he helps Mable get more face masks, this time getting some the under eyes or some where you just smear a bit on the places needed (to help with some of the sensory issues), also making sure that there’s some clear polish in case some so t want color- and making sure the polish helps with nail growth and the cuticle.
Finally it’s time. Everyone is in the living room, Gaz having a pale green mask on his face while he fixes Maomoa’s hair into a bun, getting it out of her face (they had to practice pry her here and promise her some deadly night shade if she co operated). Dipper has a small scrunchie holding his hair out of his face, a smear of black looking stuff on his forehead and cheeks.
Rapunzel painting her nails with some clear polish, her nails a soft pink color with little flower stickers on them. Mable having a pink eye masks on as she smears a small dollop of green on Kirby’s face- an even though it was a tiny amount it still ended up being to much-
Then you have Hermes who’s gossiping with Luz about gods know what. Everyone is in there pajamas and watching some kind of drama movie that Mable and Gaz had decided on, two very large popcorn bowls sitting on the floor and one small bowl of caramel corn (for luz and her sweet tooth). Snacks and games scattered along the floor.

"Welcome to the Theatre": Diary of a Broadway Baby
Welcome to the Big Dipper
December 18, 2024 | Off-Broadway | York Theatre | Evening | Musical | Original | 1H 40M
Tumblr media
Yikes. Although it was advertised as a ninety-minuter, I contemplated leaving no less than sixteen times: one for every song they crammed into this overstuffed, under-researched, absolutely horrid show. You know my rule about never leaving before the house lights come up for the last time, but damn was this little disaster testing my resolve. The writers have crafted a hyper-expositional collection of surface-level songs that do little to serve the plot or the characters, and the paper-thin book seems as if it were ripped right out of an eight-year-old's creative writing notebook. I don't think the writers seem to know how blizzards work. Or the Amish. Or school property. Or college. Or drag queens. Or anything, really. I won't waste your time rehashing what I saw on that stage tonight, and pointing out everything that didn't make a lick of sense, because frankly, I don't ever want to think about it again. So many questions, and yet I don't care to find out the answers to this botched execution.
But onto the real intrigue. I've been to several shows put on by York Theatre at the Theatre at St. Jean's on the Upper East Side, and every time has been because there have been ample comps available to me, and it seems like most of the audience is usually in a similar boat. No show has ever been more than half-full. I cannot understand how or why they're operational. I'm half-convinced this thing is the mattress store of off-Broadway and they're all just money laundering. The quality is usually on par with a community theatre, in both set design, writing, and unfortunately, acting. According to the 10-K forms, York makes about half as much revenue as, say, Signature Theatre, but puts out work at one-tenth the quality.
Two months ago, the long-time artistic director was essentially pushed out of his role because he had a record of saying, well, less-than acceptable things. (Racist, he was racist.) He was an old white man with old white man ideas of what made a show good, and judging by the dwindling audience base, it was not what sells, even on the Upper East Side. They do so few shows here. Some staged readings, a training program that's been on hiatus for years, and maybe one full production. Where is the money going? How are they funding both a film of this show (there were cameras there tonight, in fact) and a cast album? I'm fascinated.
Verdict: Someone Put This Dumpster Fire Out
