EXCITEMENT
INTEREST GONE
#/j bc the augment apparel is really cool and i love how people use it#this is just about how my brain skipped the image. read ''augments''#thought it was going to be ''more breeds get the augment tert''. read the caption. got disappointed#im just primarily an ancient lair and rarely ever touch apparel

Like I'm basically just parroting the thread here but some people really just don't get it like the disappointment with recent ancient breeds is the fact that they aren't really being pushed into interesting directions. Like it's not uncommon with ancient releases for people to speculate that there's a specific tert that "completes" their design which was then removed, most recent of which being the Dusthides and uhhhh Spore I think it's called idk I'm not looking it up. I don't believe this theory because it's fucking Crazy but like god if breed designs are feeling incomplete to people then that's um kind of a degree of failure? Does this make any fucking sense.

don't feel like rephrasing so here's just my takes on the update from discord. I can't really judge it as a site feature because the accessibility features enabled on my phone (which I use more for convenience, but which are absolutely not worth turning off for me) mean it does not function
I'm mostly upset that it's so incredibly broken. even the "expected limitations" or whatever feel like wrinkles that needed to either delay the update further or send it to the backburner until these were no longer potential issues. it's just so incredibly disappointing because yeah sure it's a feature that looks neat if you can see it. but it also blatantly doesn't work with certain customization features sometimes (overwriting eye types and line-breaking terts?? not functioning with silhouette scrolls?) and which has broken existing site features for people using certain outside accessibility features (generated dragon images/links no longer function as links)

i’ve recently returned from many many years away from the game and was so disappointed to see that the fest-themed terts are only for ancients

i dont like ancients because i think if we didnt have them then things would be more interesting for moderns. like is it just me or does it feel like staff have gotten more strict on modern tert genes ever since ancients came out???? genes like blossom or augment would work perfect for moderns, yet despite being highly requested, we've only gotten the most basic and flat patterned terts ported.
it makes me even more upset when people defend boring ancients with "its not the design that should break the mold, it should be the terts" and then staff release an ancient tert that makes me regret ancients ever being invented because it doesn't even break modern rules enough to not have them on moderns. but if it even hints at a 3d shape, has particle effects, or breaks the line by a miniscule amount we'll probably never see it on moderns despite modern genes already breaking some of these rules just because it started on an ancient.
yes i did post this because greenskeeper looks like a modern friendly version of branches. im disappointed as hell that it will never be a modern gene.

Saw we were sharing progens? Mine are... kinda underwhelming. Magpie was my custom, and I still like his colors, but wish I'd done like. double Spring or something. That would have been fun. Can't bring myself to scatter him though. At least his Stone tert is matchy with Capsule! Veil was my random - Platinum/Sand/Gold is a pretty good roll, but at the time I was disappointed (she also wasn't a Tundra). But I grew to appreciate her. I think I would have changed them more if I hadn't bred them. Since now they won't "match" even though their kids are exalted and it doesn't even matter. I did breed them a second time for my 10th frversary, and lucked out on only one egg - it actually helped me figure out some lore stuff! Maybe I'll post it sometime.

thoughts on the breed + poses under the cut! some positive, some negative, just my opinions
overall, i'm kind of... eh. i think it hasn't really set in for me yet that these are moderns. i got so used to ancients getting released that i forgot how huge of a deal it is to get a new modern LMAO
so, while i'm trying to kick my habit of judging new breeds based on the new line-breaking terts they get, i think i like these guys! as of right now i like imperials more, and imps aren't really at the top of my favorites list, so they're not at the bottom but they're definitely not at the top.
i'm kind of disappointed with the m pose. the ears don't stick out of the silhouette, and neither do the back legs, so trying to put apparel on either of those two places kind of ends up with a mess. i know the pose is swimming (which i do like), but it also kind of looks to me like the males are all stuck in a glue trap :'D though i WILL say i love how you can see the segmented wings in this pose better. the wings are one of the best parts about this breed imo
BUT the F pose though..... IT'S REALLY GOOD!!!!!! the ears stick out of the silhouette, the wings are folded with some perspective but you can still use apparel on them fine, and all of the legs are visible and sticking out. i like that their mouths are open, too. AND seraph looks FANTASTIC on this pose!!! i noticed the m pose makes seraph look a little less feathery.
hatchling pose is fucking adorable and i love it. ALTHOUGH the silhouette again is like.... hoo boy. it took me a solid minute to figure out what parts of the dragon were attached where when looking at the hatchling pose. it's kind of suffering from the same issue as auraboas, where there's just so much Stuff going on that it all gets squished together and hard to parse. also, if you don't register their head as being lower than their neck, it looks like they have a dialga head that sticks waaaaay back lol
i think i'll warm up to this breed more as i see more and more of them with good outfits and such. we're kind of in the first day stage where everyone has gen1s with funky colors, so i'm looking forward to seeing whether or not they'll grow on me and at least be on the level of pearlcatchers for me (i.e. pretty dang good)

Happy Starfall Celebration!
It's time!! I've had a lot of speculation with this fest, and it didn't disappoint- here are my thoughts:
Familiar
I'm so glad they chose asters instead of morning glories. And the cobra seems super fitting as a snake too! I love the cobra's skin with its subtle stars. Just so lovely to look at.
Apparel
It's so funny and pretty at the same time. I can imagine so many other Starfall apparel pieces that this could go with!
Gene
I don't think it could be any more perfect than this. It's a little on the chaotic side, but it's still incredible. A Bubblegum tert makes it makes it match nicely with Arcane primal's runes too. And it gives them a little halo- oh, it's so cute!
Joxar Recolor
Not bad as far as recolors go. I don't particularly like it, but it's definitely not terrible. No notes, I suppose.
Favorite Skin: Guilded Orbits
It's just absolutely stunning. The blues and the golds are a nice break from the pinks, magentas, and purples of Starfall. The space looks painted with watercolor, and the little brushes of gold on the edges are so sweet and beautiful. I am in absolute awe. I don't own Tundras beyond being fodder breeders, but this skin is going to make me change my mind.
That's all for now! Happy Starfall, everyone!

a little underwhelming, like others im disappointed they have wings but ill be damned if antlers isn't one of my new favorite terts
#i think it works *because* they are bald#i dont trust staff with adapting that gene on a hornful breed its gonna clash so bad#but the perks of being bald is their tert can give them unique horn shapes!#given theres only 3 for now#im surprised they didnt come with branches

Oh it's literally just a caterpillar..... no weirdness at all outside of terts. It's just a tomato worm..... Neat.
Feel like harp should've been on them as a base feature thing or you know they actually went weird with it instead of just drawing a caterpillar. I don't hate them, it's just yet another ancient that is just kind of there to me. Also they keep re-using the same male pose and I hate it, it's my least favorite male pose for any breed and they keep copying and pasting it.
Disappointment aside I'm happy they at least diversified bodies for once, I was getting so tired of the same exact dragon copy and pasted. Still wish most of these non-linebreaking terts would've gone to moderns when a lot of them are what people have been wanting for years. (Eclipse, gecko, etc. etc.)
#negative#their unique gene pool feels so small too; but I'd have to look at previous releases to see if it is#I'm sure the female pose will get really nice skins though; if people don't drop them immediately like they do most ancients

not to be that guy but the last time we got a good modern tert was like two years ago
can we have another? please? we have enough prim/sec duos now can we pls have a tert again
#as far as i saw the four most recent terts were:#koi which is default not Good status for being a gem gene#otherwise okay aside from the fact that it looks like a jpeg#then i cant remember the order but keel and glowtail. neither of which i need to say anything further on i believe#and then veined two years ago#which was the good tert#kata's chatter#negative#also yes i dont like the new genes#ribbon is okay and has its uses but looks weird on some parts#perfectly within the realm of 'not my cup of tea but otherwise good gene good job'#eel is just a disappointment bc of the mane/fin/etc thing#i also dont like the shape of the big blotch on the wing but like#its okay on some poses#the fact that manes/fins/etc just get a colour that doesnt even fit and No patterns?? disappointing as hell#on an otherwise complicated and colourful gene#makes it look unbalanced and straight up unfinished#also huge 'tundra butterfly mane' syndrome

You know what. I'm gonna have to agree that this update was a little disappointing, even though I didn't have my hopes up for anything major.
The concept is neat, I will admit that. I have two dragons wearing shimmerscale. It's a neat subtle effect that looks nice on them. But some of them are broken, there's too many gem items in comparison to the 3 treasure items we got, the opacity is too high on two of them, and some of them straight up do not work on apparel and linebreaking terts.
I had yet to be disappointed by a new feature until we were given this one. Maybe in the future we'll get better effects that work and look nice.

Hmmm, might just scatter the first guy. His tert is just a disappointment, the other can actually work it tho omg
Pistachio/Latte/Ultramarine and Royal/Peacock/Caribbean. Oof I might turn these 2 into scatter projects if nobody is interested in them as is.
