I finished DS9 and here's my first offering to the fandom.

The show is just SO GOOD!! I wanna talk about it so bad, so I will spam the tags quite a bit... My bad. Also, the people who said Bashir would get better - you were right, he became a lot more fun! Plus he's got a teddy bear, that's peak character right there.

Libraries are fantastic, but you have to understand: there is a tradeoff, which is: you don’t get to hang onto materials indefinitely.

You can’t yell at us because you’ve decided to use a library music score for 3 months and you have to at least bring it to the library before checking it out again. You can’t yell at us if you can’t renew it because someone else placed a hold so they can use it too. Don’t get snippy if you signed an agreement saying you understand you get this laptop for 4 weeks and then you have to return it.

Yes, libraries are fantastic, but things have to be accessible to everyone, not just  you.

there's something uniquely fucking annoying about having your time and energy wasted when you're disabled in such a way that means you only have a very limited energy budget per day. like i can't even go man that was stupid time to do something else! because even though the thing was stupid it also sucked all my ability to think directly from my brain. thanks. helpful

Hey, it’s been a while. :)

I’m doing alright, just plugging away at my dissertation. The other day, I took a break to sort things out—cleared my desk, gathered all my notes, and organized them by chapters. It was kinda nice to see how far I’ve come. Made me think of something I heard on a podcast:

“We all start from not knowing and learn through the process”

Feeling quietly motivated to keep moving forward, I’m so grateful.

Yesterday I made some progress with my preparations for the exam. I still find it hard to concentrate and to be really present. I find myself distracted easily and I really wish I could take a real break.

been hearing rumors that the "i'm always straight" lines may have been cut from the GN and IF that is true, I expect everyone will be super mad about that--and ngl i'd mourn the loss of it too because it has become iconic to me

But. i can't believe i'm playing devils advocate for this, BUT it is not entirely unreasonable for an adaptation of this work to decide it does not want to reference Ronan's sexuality yet......coming to terms with his sexuality is (one) part of his arc in the 2nd book. Adam Parrish being ~the 2nd secret he doesn't want to admit to himself~ , Ronan's catholic guilt homoerotic nightmares and the like, all characterize his sexuality as something he might vaguely be aware of but seriously struggles to openly admit. I don't think he even uses the word gay or any other word to describe himself in the whole series? (unless I'm forgetting something?)

So, idk, it's not unreasonable to want the (hypothetical) audience to also not be aware of it until Ronan is forced to directly grapple with his identity next book.

i think this is one of those things that has become very dear to the fandom over time, but if i look at it objectively without my feelings, i just.....i do understand why someone could conceivably decide that this off-handed bitchy "he's gay btw" joke is not of dire importance for the sanctity of the story 😭 in the 'pros don't outweigh the cons' sort of way....
