Is the book!Dracula's background as a dark sorcerer who became a vampire at the folkloric Scholomance (think Hogwarts if it was run by literal Satan) ever made mention of or referenced in Castlevania related material? You know given Castlevania actually does something with Dracula's status as a powerful magician on top of the vampire thing which usually falls to the wayside in adaptations.
….Come to think of it I'm pretty sure the only Dracula related work that actually does something with that plot point is the recent Nosferatu remake.
Kkkkkkkkkind of?
The Japanese manual of CV3 implies Dracula is an evil sorcerer who was in pursuit of power, and sold his own humanity to the Evil God. Not only he became a vampire, but he sold the soul of his own son, Alucard, to become even stronger. So yeah, originally, Alucard was born human but turned into a vampire by his own dad sacrificing his humanity.
Tumblr media
ドラキュラ公は自らの力を絶大なものにするため、その身を悪魔に売り渡すまでになっていたが、それだけでは満足せず、自分の息子にまで悪魔との契約を行うよう強要したのである。 "Dracula went so far as to sell his own soul to the Devil in order to increase his power, but he was not satisfied by that alone and forced his son into the contract."
It also implies that he was the real Vlad III, since Dracula's Curse takes place in 1476, the year the Impaler died. Much like Dracula's book implies that was the vampire's original identity.
If you look at his appearance in CV3, you can see how he looks more like a sorcerer:
Tumblr media
He uses a scepter to raise the flames in the first phase, something he never does again in the series.
Of course, in the most recently established canon, this was all retconned. Dracula was born as a human alchemist who yes, turned himself into a vampire, but not by selling his own soul - on the contrary, he stole another vampire's soul, effectively becoming the devil in this situation. The "borrowing even more power from the Evil God" part is still canon as per the Curse of Darkness manga, though. We don't know if his unique powers, like turning Grant into a monster, are a type of magic or related to his status as a Dark Lord. The Devil Forging that he taught to Hector and Isaac is also described not as magic, but alchemy, so tied once more to his LoI-established backstory.
(naturally this also heavily impacted Alucard's origins too. Add Lisa's role in the lore, and effectively this makes him the biggest retcon in the series. ngl i do like the idea of a father selling his own son's humanity for power, I wish they kept it somewhere)
Strangely enough, he has a sorcerer design in Castlevania Chronicles too, but as it's a remake of the first game, I'm not sure it's relevant:
Tumblr media
This answer got too long lol. I guess tl;dr: that was the original plan, but then IGA turned Dracula into a more classic Demon King.

Kisses for Trevor - Alucard (naughty)
But not too naughty. Yet definitely suggestive. More St. Valentine's gifts! The good stuff is of course having to be left elsewhere cuz paranoia.
Also Alucard is definitely a top. Something he got from daddy, likely.
~ + ~
… Of course he would be proven wrong, in a way, when Alucard still had Trevor’s holy-laced blood in his system. Just like their initial meeting, the older man’s back is against something and at the mercy of Dracula’s heir. His heart beats faster, pangs of excitement he never felt before blossom all across his body. There’s hissing at his throat while elongated fangs break the skin near his collar, trailing along his pulse. Those are the tools of a killer, matching with the total eclipse happening in Alucard’s eyes, now bloodshot. Hungry. He’s seeing red. Hearing red. Alucard explained how it felt very vaguely when they broke camp, but the brunette dared not press further fearing offending his fellow.
I warned you.
And yet Trevor isn’t helpless either, as he made a promise to him. Should he go too far, to the point of no return, the young prince had trusted he’d be put out like the animal he’s trying to become. He catches a glimpse of the Vampire Killer tightly wound in his hands and muscles taught, ready for action. Even with that venom, Trevor will be just as much of a threat.
But he doesn’t want to be.
Please, I need this.
It’s almost as if Alucard could read his mind. They sink in, Trevor shuddering and gasping as it hurts. A lot. He had thought it’d sting like a bee. It’s coupled with how his growing desire is an inferno now, with Alucard grasping onto him and shoving him further into the wall. He’s being lifted into the air however high, he didn’t know where the floor went as bright eyes roll closed, his thighs squeezing around his partner. Just what in the world is this man doing to him? Either way, blood stains the collar of his tunic, his bandaged hand threaded through and grasping onto fistfulls of white gold hair… and Trevor has been lost. Alucard stops his feeding of him long enough to raise his head and stare. Blue eyes slowly open again just to see him, wild yet calm all at once, watching his pulse quicken, scrutinize his skin and the way he looked so. So.
He doesn't need to say anything. Trevor just knows how he looks now, and how he pulls more on his sweet fellow’s hair until he gets a tiny snarl in response.
“Now, you weren’t going to just stop there, were you…? Finish me off, at least, you great beast.”
There’s a short pause, sharp nails threatening to tear through thick leather gloves as they rake against Trevor’s clothing. Then. Alucard, still with Belmont blood painting his lips, speaks.
“As you wish.”

CVIII/CoD characters if they were in college in no particular order:
Sypha: she's the nerdy looking homeschooled girl dressing in the baggy clothes and glasses who looks like she has never been with a man ever in her life but mentions "Oh and my husband..." In which you pause and think wait she's MARRIED?! How?? She's incredible at science and reads like a beast. Might get involved with an engineering or nursing degree there's no in-between for her. Loves tabletop gaming and would destroy you in Mariokart.
Julia: opposite of Sypha (her best friend) who has the good looks for days but isn't married. Instead she's in a situationship with her brother's ex-boyfriend and doesn't know what to do about it. Also loves science, but has a leaning towards animal biology and being a vet or smth like that. She’s the roommate with a cat or dog or both. Will get on your case about doing the dishes. Gardening isn't her hobby, it's her lifestyle.
Alucard: he's the student who only does online classes...but at campus. Hiding in his dorm room. You only see him once in a blue moon when he comes out for a glass of water during the day. His major? Linguistics and library science probably, but you're not certain. Wears glasses like a total nerd. You're pretty sure that his dad is the suave and equally creepy history professor that has an eclectic series of reviews on rateyourprofessor.
Grant: he's the guy you see literally everywhere. He's at the campus events, the gym, the library, the cafeteria, your best friend's bachelor's party, and he's in at least one of your classes. Name it and he's there in the crowd. Easy to spot because he always wears the same pair of bright red shoes (adidas for some reason) and bandana. Always wears it, is he bald? You decide. Everyone knows he's a declared business major and is obsessed with sales and the stock market. However, he makes some questionable choices regarding money with how he has access to all the tv shows and movies and not a coin spent on streaming services. Has done drugs at some point and can ace the climbing wall like nobody's business.
Trevor: a local who happens to have the college in his backyard. When he's not in class or with the wife, man is eating it up at the campus gym or invested in some sporting event. He's the one that jumps to conclusions in class too fast, so you watch him and the professor argue for at least 10 minutes every class. But at the end of the day is one of the nicest and kindest individuals you've probably met. As much as he likes being physically active, man either has a major in family relations or education. Him and Sypha host a Friday game night at their apartment. Everyone's in love with him, but he is obsessed with his wife. There's some funny picture of him wearing thigh high boots floating around the student body and those boots just might be stuffed in the front of the closet.
Hector: he's part of the older crowd that's finally getting around to college in his mid 20s, because sometimes it be like that. Still not over the girl he loved in high school, who may or may not have died? You're never completely sure when it comes to him. Due to this, his romantic life is a hot mess between these two siblings whom he has both dated (separately) and a certain history professor that seems to be obsessed with him. Is a bio-chem major and history minor. A quiet guy at first, but actually really smart, sweet and is an underdog champ at performing above-average in class. Everyone on campus agrees his jeans fit him almost too well and a person can't help but stare sometimes.
Isaac: he's got the bad boy energy of being the student who has a past crime-record, but still weaseled his way into college because of how wicked smart he is. Dresses in questionable black clothing and doesn't believe in belts. He's low-key obsessed with that one history professor which may be why he and his ex-boyfriend broke up in the first place. However they still see each other all the time, because their majors are the exact same, but he's thinking of switching to micro-biology believing he will be the one to find the cure to cancer. Can be overprotective of his sister and vice versa. He loves getting paid to be an actor for the nursing program simulations, but all the nurses in training hate it. Drives a motorcycle because why the hell not.
BONUS
Saint Germain: the professor who's always late to the start of class, but always happens to be there for when you slip, fall in the ice and rip your pants.

1. Dracula, 1931
dir. Tod Browning
Tumblr media
For the past 4 years I have been trying to watch every Dracula movie ever made, currently at number 164. Most of them suck ass. This quest has brought ruin to my life. I have lost the respect of my friends and loved ones. Horrible, burning welts and boils have broken out across my body. I am disturbed by dark dreams of huge, black bats and baying wolves. Nevertheless, I will keep going. Because you, the good people of Tumblr, deserve someone to review every Dracula movie. So, for my first entry, here's one of the good ones.
Tumblr media
"Velcome... to my blog... blehoy..."
From director Tod Browning and cinematographer Karl Freund, this is the first OFFICIAL Dracula movie and one of the most iconic, for good reason. A lush, gothic film with delightfully heightened performances from its cast. Bela Lugosi is both suave and imposing as the Count, but Dwight Frye and Edward Van Sloane deserve equal praise as Renfield and Van Helsing respectively. All three, and the rest of the cast really, deliver such fantastic melodramatic performances, playing up the eery, moody script. The rivalry between Dracula and Van Helsing, who exudes such calm confidence despite being in grave danger, is highly compelling.

Tumblr media
Of course, it's also a visually impressive film. The sets are wonderfully gothic, all foggy verandas and old, creepy castles. The cinematography is dim and gloomy, with great use of light vs dark, long shadows creeping from every corner, and characters lit harshly in a way that adds a lot of depth. It's very striking!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
As beautiful as this movie is to look at, there are a few elements that don't work for me, mostly involving the script. I don't think it's necessary for a Dracula adaptation to be accurate, but this film in particular feels overly abridged, resulting in a blindingly brisk pace and the omitting of some important scenes. I personally find it confusing at points because it seems like the movie moves so fast that we're missing out on necessary details. But if you've read the book or are already familiar with the story, this isn't a huge issue.
Tumblr media
All in all, Dracula 1931 is a very pretty film that is effectively creepy even now. There are a few better Dracula movies out there, but it's a great place to start for any Dracula freak. I give it 7 BATS OUT OF 10.

Twitter is a terrible place for gushing because the character limit is not enough for me to go on about why I think peak is peak
anyway no thoughts head full of fluff and love about niche media that for unexplainable reasons has carved a place into my heart
