Steady Decline

Other names : It is not what it should be, The Fog Classification: Intersection of the lonely, the spiral, the end and the corruption. Varies upon presentation.

Steady decline is the contemporary fear of the decline of ones own faculties. Historically this fear may have been indistinguishable from the spiral, whilst modern medicines extension of human life without any clear progress towards extending the brains life span as an organ has lead to a distinct increase in this niche fears presence. As a entity, it encompasses not just the fear of losing your mind to the decay of your brain, but also the distrust of your own perceptions of reality and the incredible isolation of progression into this state.

Many of the conditions that can lead to this fear being a presence in a victims life are often progressive, extensive and deeply alter ones experience of their world, whether that be through moments of lucidity amongst the lack of it, or in behaviours and actions that are out of character or extreme for any person. As a reflection of this base fear, the presentations of Steady decline vary significantly in the key details, save for the simple fact that most are environmental. A victim of this entity may not necessarily be unwell in their own mind, but instead paranoid of the potential, which is often enough for the changes to begin occurring. Most observed victims will experience a series of strange encounters, that are not necessarily terrifying in their own right, that no one else in their life will have either witnessed, or have any memory of. The most coherent description, usually followed by who the victim thinks the monster isn't, is that they are humanoid with distended proportions. Regardless of their exact features, memories of encounters with these creatures should not be trusted, and any detail remembered clearly disregarded as part of the Decline.

Overall, this fear is linked to multiple of the other entities, and is both hard to detect its presence and escape its influence. All direct encounters on record, if these records are to be trusted, are explicitly fatal.
