The music is the movie

I’ve read various accounts of how closely “A Complete Unknown” - the new Bob Dylan biopic I watched a few nights ago - sticks to the facts.

As with every other biopic, the Dylan movie no doubt includes some sugar-coating - in both commission and omission - for dramatic effect, etc. Those moments are fairly obvious.

But who cares? It’s all about the music. In fact, I would argue that the music is the movie. Plot? Narrative? Mere hooks on which to hang the songs.

The movie had me singing like a madman. It got me back at my six-string, banging out all that three-cord truth from the mind of a true musical genius.

I had a blast.

Guess what song lyric rolled through my mind the instant I stepped outside Monday ... ?

Hint: It's q Bob Dylan song ...

Give up ... ? It's the lyric, "That long black cloud is comin' down ..." from the song "Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

Monday was that kind of day. Like competing bullies in a school yard, glowering clouds like the one in the photo pushed each other around the sky before finally joining forces in the evening for an attempt at rain. It fizzled after a couple of thimbles full.

As for "Heaven's Door," Dylan wrote the song for the soundtrack of the 1973 movie "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid." The record company released it as a single two months after the film's premiere. The song became a hit worldwide.
