This scene absolutely shattered my heart.
Star went from utter shock, to anger, and the feeling of betrayal in an instant.
The thought of her mother turning on her... her mom who she loves and looks up to... it was unbelievable. After all they had been through.
——————————————————————
This discussion is a bit lengthy so please bear with me:
Star and Moon’s mother-daughter relationship has always been complicated.
Star has mother issues (established in Season 1) and throughout the series we’ve watched them face problems and have different opinions on them, but at the same time we also watched their relationship grow stronger as seasons went on.
Moon was opening up to Star, trusting her more, believing in her, and it was beautiful.
Moments in episodes like Flag Day and Face the Music where Moon openly admitted this to Star was very moving and important for Star to hear. Her mom had faith in her.
Then we had the Battle For Mewni.
We saw how much Moon truly loves Star.
She would do anything to protect her daughter, even turning to dark magic to kill Toffee when thinking Toffee killed Star.
Moon and Star’s bond only grew stronger after this.
Now I’ll talk a bit about Moon and Eclipsa’s relationship:
In Stranger Danger, Star defended Eclipsa and hoped that Moon would change her ways and look at Eclipsa in a new light.
Moon was cautious, but during Total Eclipsa of the Moon she warmed up to Eclipsa to a degree, and in Butterfly Trap, Moon was angry at the MHC for lying and keeping the truth from them about Festivia and Meteora and supported the right for Eclipsa to be free.
After this it seemed like Moon bonded with Eclipsa and at least respected her...
Then, Tough Love happened.
The incident that Moon blames Eclipsa for.
Eclipsa fought off Moon, which caused Moon to go to the magic dimension in Divide/Conquer where she lost her memories, and after was sent to Pie Island with Moon not knowing who she was while also being separated from River and Star.
Star went through hell looking for Moon during these four episodes. Star’s entire mission was finding her mom. She refused to believe Moon was gone.
Their bond was incredibly strong at this point, and the thought of not having Moon around destroyed Star.
When Moon was found on Pie Island and went back to the Monster Temple, this is where the wariness started up again and Moon was not happy.
In Moon Remembers Moon outright told Star that she didn’t trust Eclipsa...
Which lead to her actions in Cornonation.
Star might not have seen eye to eye with Moon about her thoughts on Eclipsa but at the very least, was still craving Moon’s approval and wanted her to attend Eclipsa’s Coronation. Moon did, and Star was thrilled about it. She believed Moon went to support her, and that meant the world to Star.
(Turns out Moon also went so she could release Globgor from his crystal which was setting the plan into motion...)
When Eclipsa battled Moon in Tough Love, she was only doing to protect her daughter.
Despite Meteora’s raging attack on Mewni, Eclipsa still loved her and wanted to keep her safe, which if Moon was in Eclipsa’s situation she would’ve done the same thing.
THAT’S why this whole “betrayal” gets me.
Moon doesn’t think she’s betraying Star, or think she’s the villain.
Her face after Star screams “TRAITOR!” and blasts her with magic says it all. Moon is heartbroken that Star is fighting her.
Moon genuinely thought she was doing the right thing. Protecting her family and kingdom by assisting Mina and getting rid of monsters.
She states that she knew what the plan looked like (as if Moon turned on everyone) but she explains that Mina was going to attack anyway, Moon wanted the wand and throne back so that Mewni could go back to the way it used to be, so Moon figured she could get what she wanted, while also letting Eclipsa, Globgor, and Meteora live and let them move to another dimension.
I don’t understand why Moon thought this whole scheme with Mina would solve anything.
Clearly it ended up all wrong, and inadvertently harmed Star in the process.
We know Mina is insane and is strictly loyal to Solaria meaning no matter who had the wand, Mina isn’t stopping until the monsters were officially gone.
Of course Star wasn’t going to stand by and let this happen, meaning she was in just as much danger as Eclipsa and her family.
I wish Moon would’ve realized that Mina wouldn’t have listened to reason.
Moon isn’t a villain. Her judgement is just misplaced.
She is thinking with her head over her heart.
She loves her family and would do anything for them, as well as taking care of her kingdom, but that exclusively means Mewmans only.
Moon isn’t the one who deserves the throne to Mewni.
Star is.
Star is Mewni’s savior.
If Moon wanted the throne back that badly, I feel, if she had a calm open discussion with Eclipsa, Eclipsa wouldn’t have had a problem going off to live a normal life. She says in The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse that her “whole life is a time like this” meaning chaos, and all she wants is to live peacefully with her husband and daughter.
Star is the one who will bring unity.
Star is accepting of everyone, she cares about monsters and mewmans, fights for what she wants, knows what she wants to fight for, she even has her love life figured out.
Eclipsa flat out said that Star is far more advanced than Moon and Eclipsa were (or any of the others queens, really) at her age, which is true.
If Moon puts her complete faith and trust in her daughter, things will change for the better.
It will take time, but their relationship can mend.
Star the Underestimated will prevail. She will earn her crown, keep her magic, bring peace to her home where monsters and mewmans can live in harmony, and Star herself can live happily ever after with the love of her life.

Moon the Undaunted

Previous Queen: Comet King: River Johansenn Children: Star, River Jr. (Lil' River) Description: Moon assented to the throne after her mother's assassination when she was 17. While during her reign where was... not necessary peace, more of a stalemate between monsters and Mewmans, not really pushing for unity, but not wanting war either. As Queen she discovered a terrible conspiracy, her 7 times great grandmother Queen Lunaura wasn't the daughter of Queen Eclipsa, but a peasant girl who was transplanted onto the throne because the Magical High Commission didn’t want Eclipsa's half monster daughter on the throne or wielding magic. Her time as Queen ended when she was lost in the Magic Dimension during the Battle of the Butterflies, succeed by her daughter Star. Inspiration: A trace of her canon tapestry. Credits: Moon belongs to Disney and Daron Nefcy. Note: Yes, Moon had a son, Lil' River, who was born the year following Cleaved. And yes, the Queen after Eclipsa, the progenitor of Star's bloodline, was Lunaura, not Festivia.

Seeing just how much Star has matured this season has both warmed and broken my heart. She cares so much about all of Mewni, and tries to do what's best for Eclipsa, the Mewmans, the Monsters, for everyone, and without prejudice, though she sometimes feels like the only one. She's been bearing the weight of responsibility sturdily, but seemingly alone, while it almost feels like the entire world is against her.
She still Star, she can act impulsively, and sometimes expects things to happen far quicker than possible, but she's working toward a goal no one else seems to truly care about, but is ultimately for their good.
She's been mature about her use of magic. She understands her power, and uses it wisely.
She's basically been carrying Eclipsa's throne for her, arranging all the political meetings and contracts, doing everything possible to fix her image, and set up the coronation. She's been doing everything possible to fix any of Eclipsa's mistakes. She's been actively working towards unity and for all of Mewni in a way Eclipsa hasn't.
What really struck me in Coronation was her rant about wanting to be able to finally put this all behind her, and be a teenager again. About not knowing what teenagers even do anymore. And suddenly you can see it, the weight she's been holding for everyone. Even Moon has sort of given up. At least, she's given up her responsibilities. Season One Star was all about the fun, and that Star is long gone. Now she's stressed and more serious. She's not the Queen or Princess anymore. She doesnt actually have to do anything she's been doing. She could have left the kingdom to Eclipsa and been done with it, like Moon has. But she didn't. Instead she's taken up the mantle in a way she hadn't before, and as a result, she's grown far older than she should be and the maturity she now sports shine brighter than ever.

Ready, Aim, Fire
When faced with the Magical High Commission, no wonder Eclipsa needed such dark magic to survive. Learning what we have these past 4 episodes, it seems that Eclipsa is the only truly good person in Mewni’s history.
A person with God like powers, Glossaryck introduced an invasive species to the planet of Mewni and gave them magic, which then gave them an unfair advantage over monsters. And despite Glossaryck’s supposed neutrality, he created the Magical High Commission to keep monsters inline, he has been helping the Mewman royalty throughout their history maintain power and learn magic, it also explains why the Butterfly Kingdom became the dominant power on Mewni - this whole time Glossaryck set it up that way. He has been maintaining a balance of power that give Mewmans or should I say Humans the undeniable advantage, he set up the Magical High Commission to protect his own and Human interests on the planet. Glossaryck pretty much created a Human Empire and protected its interests every step of the way, and now Eclipsa is Queen she threatens all of that. Unity between monsters and Mewmans has seen as new independent kingdom form under Moon and Glossaryck and the Magical High Commission clearly cannot accept that. They want to maintain power of Humans as the superior species for a twisted end that I cannot even see. But I feel comfortable in declaring that Glossaryck is evil.
Also when Eclipsa spells are being described as dark magic by Glossaryck and the Magical High Commission who have very clear ulterior motives, I really start to question how dark they actually really are.

How SVTFOE should have ended.
A.K.A “ I just really love Eclipsa guys she deserved SO MUCH better so I’m gonna spew my ideas real quick to cope okay!?!”
I would have loved it when Eclipsa went off on Moon for betraying her like cause she has every right to, with all the crap she’d had to deal with for falling in love with a monster, being dubbed the queen of evil and pretty much having her baby taken away from her I would have loved to see her break down a bit. When Moon tells her to hand over the wand/kingdom she just straight up tells her “No.” turning the wand on Moon of course Star would probably tell Eclipsa to stop or go “Woah wait a minute” and tries to get between them and then she tells Star how sorry she is but she’s not gonna give her her kingdom so easily and how she is prepared to fight.
Of course Mina shows up not surprised that Eclipsa wouldn’t give up the crown so easily and probably rub salt in the wound telling her how disappointed her mother would be in her and Eclipsa in ranged just starts fighting her with out thinking and gets ready to use the spell with no name again but Star of course stops her midway, holding her down knowing good and well Eclipsa wouldn’t hurt her and Star tries desperately to tell her this isn’t the right way to end things Mina crazy and not caring because in her eyes Star has clearly shown to be on Eclipsa’s side and its best for the good of the kingdom that she dies with her. Moon Jumps in to protract her daughter using her magic and not knowing what to do in the rush of the moment probably just use her butterfly powers to teleport them all some where (Probably to some unknown area, just some place away from whats happening maybe in the another realm or something)
once Star wakes up trying to figure out what happened probably dose a goofy thing where she thinks she died or something but the Moon quickly grabs her hugging her asking if hes alright and she brushes off that shes fine and asks wheres Eclipsa and looks over and shes her hunched over, we over to see the her wand is broken and shes in tears trying desperately to put it back together Star sees this and tries to comfort Eclipsa and tells her that its no use trying to fix it and She tearfully tries to tell her that she has to try or begs Star to fix it for her because she has to go back and save her kingdom and her husband. Star doesn’t know what to say to comfort her accept “I’m sorry..”
And then she lashes out at Moon again demanding that she fixes it but of course she can’t fix it either so Eclipsa just on her knees defeated her baby just just sees her mother is sad and tries to comfort her and Eclipsa she hugs Meteora. Star just looks sad but then lashes at her mom a bit about what she did and how she broke her trust and Moon just tries to tell star what she was trying to do Star dosen’t agree with it at all but realizes that they don’t have time for this, Star just tires to be mature about all this telling her mom that what she didn’t wasn’t right and how she broke her trust but we can sort it out later and tells Moon “Look Mom there could still be time to fix this, lets go back and try to fix this together for the good of the kingdom.” Moon agree its probably the best thing to do right right now and Star has to be the one to sadly tell Eclipsa that its probably best for her to stay here with Meteora, I feel like she would want to try to help in any way she can but Star just tells her that she can’t and that her and Moon will take care of it and Eclipsa tries to speak against it but Star and Moon leave her alone for the time being
(So here I would put the part where Moon tries to tell Mina that Eclipse gone and that she would stand down but of course that doesn’t work she wants to kill all monsters and when Moon tries to break the spell and it doesn’t work out breaks a fight scene where Star and Moon combine their powers trying to stop them)
Cut back to Eclipsa just sitting there trapped maybe looking at her hands just disappointing with herself that she never learned how to use magic with out a wand, about how her husband is dying and how Star and Moon are probably no match for her mothers magic then Meteora starts giggling at something She looks over and sees its Glossaryck and dose like a funny freak out thing while hes all like “Hey Eclipca funny seeing you here.” you know being classic Glossaryck (RIP cause canon)
Eclipsa then pleads with him to get him to fix the wand or at lest teleport her out of here so she can help but says he can’t do that and only she can get herself out of here if she wants to and then shes all about how she can’t do magic with out her wand and want to do (maybe he’s being played with my Meteora cause baby loves him) maybe she talks about how even she could do magic she wouldn’t even know if she could defeat them and talk about how she wishes she could talk to her mother as ask her her and hes like “Well why don’t you shes right over there” She confused and looks over and sees her mother sitting far off and facing away from them
(okay for this I like to think they’re in some kind of magical sprite realm, like maybe this is a place where the past queens of Mewni spend or her mother is reaching out to her) I think it be nice for Eclipsa to reconnect and have a moment with her mother I feel like it was the ghost of her and shes talking about how sorry she was, thinking that her mother is probably disappointed in her but no, Solaria talks about how hated blinded her and how she filled with regret seeing how much this has hurt her daughter (Solaria love Eclipsa so much the fact that her magic was used to almost kill her daughter will hurt her more then she could know) I feel this is where Eclipsa talks about how helpless she feels and that she wish she was as strong as her mother, she only ever used magic to help herself and look what happens (looking at the marks on her hands from using dark magic) Solaria tells her that she is strong and how she always thought highly of her, Telling that shes even stronger that she could ever hope to be and that she can fix this because she believes in her, she looks back at Meteora and smiles and tells her child is beautiful and that she was happy to see her, Eclipsa then hugs the ghost of her mother crying happy tears then she fades away when Solaroa touches her face lovingly
This is where she dips down for the first time and gets her butterfly form for the first time, she makes a portal and with her baby in hand goes back to Mewni to help Moon and Star. tbh I want all three of them (and maybe baby Meteora joins in too since she can turn into a butterfly) combine their powers and defeat Mina (MAGICAL GIRL TEAM UP BLAST!) And after all this in butterfly form she goes to Globgor and lovingly heals him and they kiss With Eclipsa as queen she rains in a new area of peace with monster and mewmens living together and harmony
Also I would love it if Star Butterfly was known as the queen of unity “Star the united she was able to bring peace to the land”
HOLY FUCK MAN IDK WHOSE GONNA READ ALL THIS BUT I NEEDED TO GET MY IDEAS OUT

Do you think Eclipsa was a bad ruler?
no, i don’t think she was a bad ruler
i think she had her problems and wasn’t entirely fair or as serious as she could’ve been, she made a lot of mistakes and put a lot of her self interests above others.
but she did want to be a good queen and did want to bring about a new and better age and was willing to do better for her people even if she could be stubborn about it.
She was not perfect, and could’ve done better for her mewman citizens, but she was willing to improve and work on it and i can admire her for trying and improving.
i’m kinda upset star basically took that away from her pretty much in an instant.
eclipsa and globgor wanted to rule over a age of unity for mewmans and monsters and well....that kinda got thrown away against their will.
i’m sure they don’t mind, but plot wise i am bothered that we had a season building to make eclipsa a more accepted and better queen and she gets dethroned by the end anyway, rendering that kinda pointless.
cause i really would’ve liked to see her and globgor take over mewni but we didn’t really get any of that.

Celestabelle vs The Future Masterpost
Well, for better or for worse, the finale happened. While I didn’t hate it I think there are some problems with the way the villain was handled, and some loose ends that I don’t think were tied up in satisfying ways. With that being said, I’m going to lay down the key differences between the canon universe and my AU here. If you have any questions feel free to hit the ask box. If you’re gonna be mean about it realize first that this blog is not my priority. I’ve got a life to live outside of this and I just made this silly idea for fun. There are bound to be some plot holes and I might come back and change some things later. But for now, here we go:
1. This AU takes place in a dimension where magic works differently than in canon. There is no realm of magic. Instead, there are 6 fundamental types of magic that exist throughout the multiverse.

With proper training, any sentient creature can manipulate one or more of the different types of magic. Some creatures even have a natural affinity for certain types of magic.
2. This AU takes place in a dimension where, on Earth, there are super heroes.
Whether from exposure to super materials, innate powers, mastery of magic, super intelligence, or mastery of martial arts, there are those who call themselves heroes (and villains) and they do exist on Earth.
3. There are powerful artifacts that enhance magic power.

Artifacts such as the Butterfly Wand of Mewni enhance magic power in those who wield them. These artifacts are normally handed down from generation to generation, as is the case of the Wand. Created by Glossaryk and given to the first Mewmans, this wand has a direct link to him. Due to their immense power, those who own magic artifacts are rarely challenged except by others wielding similar power. This is why the Butterfly family was able to rule unchallenged for so long.
4. The Whispering Spell was designed to destroy the wand.
This one isn’t that far off from canon, considering we’ve already seen Star use the Whispering Spell in an attempt to destroy the wand in season 1. Instead of destroying magic, Star’s plan is to destroy the wand not only because it gives her family an unfair advantage over the other citizens of Mewni but because...
5. The Solarian Warriors were protected by the wand.
Even though Moon was not in control of the wand when she made the Solarian Fleet, she was still connected to it, and was able to harness its power. So long as the wand existed, there was no way to break the enchantment, since the Solarians took an oath to Solaria instead of Moon. Star figured out that the only way to defeat them, and make magic fair, was to destroy the wand. This act took the combined strength of all three former queens and destroyed Glossaryk as well as the Magic High Commission. Once done, the Solarians lost their power.
6. Star, Moon, and Eclipsa form the New Magic Commission
When the age of queens came to an end, and the Butterfly Wand was destroyed, the three former queens banded together to make a new council whose goal was to spread knowledge of magic throughout Mewni, and make it more accessible to everyone. They also worked together to unite Mewmans and Monsters together under one banner. This lead to the new era, an age of unity. Not only between Mewmans and monsters, but between Mewni and Earth.
7. Earth and Mewni are not cleaved together.
Simply put, since there is no realm of magic in this dimension, there was no explosion that caused Mewni and Earth to come together.
However, with the advent of accessible use of magic, citizens of Mewni and Earth can freely visit one another as often as they like.

So no consequences for Eclipsa for lying to Star about needing the book to improve her magic, spying by forcefully invading other's minds, breaking into Star's room and stealing her stuff? Only Globgor stopped her from doing exactly the things Rhombulus was trying to frame her for. I'm still with the MHC not trusting her, not because she is evil, but she is unreliable.
Absolutely, Star is very lenient with her, probably because she wants to believe that she made the right choice in giving her the throne (and because she likes her as a person and she still did more for unity than any other queen before her, even if it’s clearly not enough and not the right way for the long term), but I think she’s eventually going to have to accept that while Eclipsa has the right intentions and ideals, she doesn’t have the right personality and priorities to properly lead Mewni to a change. We’ll see if something changes now that Globgor is at her side, but I still think she’d much rather be a housewife and mother than a queen.

The difference between them and us?
Growing up, Pandora always found it vexing how peers or other royals would point out how she was different from the rest. Different in the way she looks, acts or talks. As if being different was wrong and it gave the right for people to judge and stare.
Granted, not many mewmans were thrilled at the start when Eclipsa got the throne back at first, still doubting her intentions. As her Aunt Meteora said, it just got worst when Globgor was free and they were back to wanting Eclipsa's head for it. Those few years of ruling peacefully was but an easy job. She thanked Star and Tom for being the help they need in the form of being ambassadors of peace and unity between mewmans and monsters.
Then, another trial was set to be tested. Eclipsa and Globgor needs to pass the throne to a much younger, more aspiring royal pair. And who better, if not perfect for the job than the then-newlyweds? They could still remember the mixed reactions from the crowd at the butterfly castle. Those who are firm with the old beliefs could not believe they are going to be ruled, once again by another mewman-monster pair.
But Tom and Star didn't mind the noise. They know they will have to accept it sooner or later. Like it or not, they are set to have a fair ruling over all.
It makes Pandora wonder when it was her turn to rule over the kingdom. Can she even take the pressure?
"Pandora?"
Oh no, she could feel the negativity already! The jeers, the boos, the imminent feeling of failure.
"Pandora?"
She snapped back to reality when she saw Moon, Eclipsa, Meteora and her mom looking at her with eyebrows raised. "Goodness dear, you've been dazing for a while. Is there anything you want to share with us?" Moon was the first to ask.
"I..I've been having some thoughts, Grandma Moon. About the whole thing between us and mewmans."
"Well now, the floor is yours dearie. Speak your mind out." Star pressed the issue further, since this was the topic of the day.
"Well.." The teen rubbed her elbow. "It's just that, no matter how far we get through this thing, there will still be others who don't get it. Others who speak ill of others just because they can. They harass and they call you names and it just hurts, you know? I mean, are we really that different?"
Four collective sighs was let out. Star went over to her daughter with a smile and patted her shoulder. "To be honest sweetie, not that much."
"R-Really?"
Eclipsa nodded. "Outward appearances should not matter and it never will. What defines a person is the actions they take. I saw it with my own eyes for too long. Take your uncle Marco for instance. He's like an earth version of a mewman, and yet, does he harm you?"
"No."
"Has he ever singled you out or make you feel like you don't belong?"
"Never."
"Has he ever not teach your father how to ride a dragoncycle?"
"Never, but it was funny to see Dad's dragoncycle not obeying him."
"That's besides the point. What I'm trying to say is, there are good and bad people in every groups, and we can't really say everyone is bad, even if the majority of them are jerks."
"I see your point there Eclipsa. That made me feel a bit better."
"And remember dear." Moon spoke in turn. "You will always have people who love you for who you truly are. Family and friends who will give their all to you." Pandora was bracing for impact when the older queens went by and hugged her.
"You know, this is nice and all but we can't eat our pies cold!" Meteora joked. The ladies had a good hearty laugh before they got back to their seats and resumed their afternoon meal.
Maybe this isn't as bad as she thought. Pandora isn't fooling herself when she still had her doubts over ruling and all, but she will take on the challenge, just like how they did.
(Another day, Another story at 3 in the flippin morning. I just wanted to do something for Pandora who belongs to @demon-draws. I hope I'm not boring you out or getting Pandora out of character too much TuT but still, enjoy the fic! )

SVTFOE summary
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Ok, a couple of minutes ago I watched the last episode of SVTFOE and my mind almost exploded. (but in a positive sense!) Wow, that was intense, emotional rollercoaster, but it makes that cartoon worth seeing, right?
1) First of all, STARCO. Yeah, It doesn’t feel right that they used Kelly, Janna, and Tom for ship’s development but actually, it determined the future!? Like, if it wasn’t Marco, who kept helping Star, she wouldn’t ever figure out how to save her kingdom several times? Without Marco, Meteora would not want to get revenge on him and therefore, would not be reunited with her mother. Aaand it is better that she was turned into baby, because she would start anew, without the influence of St. Olga’s brainwashing. (besides Meteora and Mariposa’s sisterhood <3)
Back up to Marco. SVTFOE is not only about Star and Marco’s love. It is about splitting and getting back together. Just look at it:
I. High Commission had taken away Eclipsa’s daughter, but with the help of main protagonists, they reunite. Then, because of Moon’s doing - love of her life is freed from crystal, as well.
II. Ponyhead loses her horn, her spark and she realizes that it is not the end of the world? She even gets an artificial horn. Earlier, she lost her identity in St. Olga’s school for wayward princesses. She was deprived of both of these things, but she RESTORED IT.
III. Ludo wanted the wand from the very beginning, but in reality, he wanted a functional family? His parents deprived him of happiness by treating him like trash, so he took over their castle. Then, his brother showed up to save him. The basketball match with Denis is a symbol of him slowly regaining his sanity/happiness.
IV. The first Mewnians come from Earth. It is very significant for the cartoon as a whole. The end of magic is equal to the end of Butterfly’s dynasty. And there is a tendency that if one thing ends, it must find the way to its roots. Let’s be real. ‘The greatest illusion is the illusion of separation’ and to be honest, MAGIC divided people and Universe. Yeah, I got it. In the Magic Realm, there are portals to other worlds, and we have dimensional scissors. BUT ACCESS TO IT IS LIMITED. There are magic users and non-magic users. It is a very risky deal because some of them misuse their powers. Ultimately, the magic was the reason, why the main villains did what they did. They were jealous or infuriated that such a power is reserved for Butterflies only.
Now let me come back to the ending of ‘cleaved’. The scene where the magic realm was falling apart and Marco and Star decided to stay there, hugging. I really liked that not because ‘ ooh that’s so romantic’. NO. Take into consideration, that the change in the realm of magic started with whispering spell of Queens of Mewni. Could Star do it on her own? No. Unity defeated magic. Then what about Marco? I’ll tell you. 1)He was the last wand user, so he had to end what the queens started 2) together with Star they represent the needs of everyone they love and care about. 3) They consider themselves as EQUAL, just like it should be. I think that ‘magic’ was initially an expression of feeling and beliefs, but later on people by using it as a tool, corrupted it. To conclude, ‘the hug’ was like a reset button. That is why the worlds mixed up into one. Additionally, Marco was the last piece to bring people of Mewni back to Earth, because HE WAS FROM EARTH.
2) Marco and Tom’s bromance. From enemies to besties. I love that trope. It is obvious that Marco triggered Tom’s character development. What is beautiful about their relationship is... (KARAOKE!!!) that later on Tom doesn’t perceive Marco as a rival, on the contrary, as a buddy, who would help him whenever he has problems with his girlfriend. I refer to that episode, where Star, River, and Marco were looking for Moon and exactly to the moment when Tom immediately called Marco right after he hung up with Star. That was adorable, just like their other interactions. Not to mention the fact that Tom would sacrifice for Marco! (3rd season finale)
3) Last minute character development of Janna and HP (i would like to elaborate more in a seperate post)
I must admit that also Miss Skullnick turned out to be a good teacher, who cares about the safety of her pupils. (’Interdimensional Field Trip’ episode)
4) Mewni’s social division:
I like how it was highlighted that if you have money, you are treated differently. It shows how unjust the system was. However, episodes: ‘Monster Bash’ and ‘Cornball’ are the great examples that people and monsters are the same and there’s hope to built together prosperous future. Allow me to quote Buffrog: ‘Our generation is garbage. But the little ones... may turn out ok’. Very good and strong message, to which we can relate to in the real world.
WHAT I REALLY REGRET:
- HP is freakin’ dead. (just like other members of the High Commission, but I do not pity them)
- all Star’s (Eclipsa’s and other queen’s too) spells are GONE/dead.
- Glossaryck, you slippery (probably dead AGAIN) pudding eater I want answers.
Overall, that was a pretty neat show.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL or The Art Student’s Awakening (A Review)
Oh hey, it’s another review by me that nobody asked for! Ok, this one is actually gonna mean a lot to me since this show is pretty much the reason I even started posting things on this site to begin with (thank you and curse you Tumblr), so I need to get it all off my chest.
Short version: It’s really fuckin’ good, and y’all should check it out. The ending could have used a little more finesse, but it’s still pretty damn good.
Long version: *gasps for air*
Ok let’s start with the story. Yeah, it’s certainly a rollar-coaster. What starts out as a fun little-romp-of-the-week type of story...

...becomes this tale of power corruption, racism battle, and a tale of trust in one another and unity among the people.
Whether or not it handles that well seems to be half and half. On one hand, grace under fire this show is not. It does seem a little rushed in the last season, and you can really tell it wanted to be a bit longer, flesh out ideas, but didn’t have time for it (I blame the Mouse on that).
I mean I dunno about you, but a show that introduces time travel right the fuck out of nowhere in a medium never seems to end well, this show is no exception.

That and they reeeeeaaaaaally try to knock you unconscious using a hammer with all the prejudice allegories.
On the other hand, good characters can make a shit story seem like high-class art. And good characters this show has in spades (no eclipsa-related pun intended).
Firstly, Star Butterfly herself. It seems stupid not to start with her. And... yeah she’s a really fun protagonist. Not only is she basically Sailor Moon hyped up on too much nose candy, but she has an incredible story of growth to go with. She starts as a fun-loving monster battler that’s too eager to run away from her problems to this teenager facing the looming shadow of adulthood head on and ready to ditch her past of monster-ism(?) for good, never to let such discrimination see the light of day again. Not to mention Eden Sher just absolutely brings this character to life, even if it’s just little things she says like “yeah totally totally totally” or “we got burger juice on the wall rug.” Something in her performance just absolutely friggin’ works wonders. I’d say she’s probably one of my favorite protagonists out there that “the big D” has come up with, but my favorte character they’ve created in a looooong time? That award...
... goes to mother-fuckin’ Marco Ubaldo Diaz. I cannot BELIEVE how much they won me over with this guy. I think it’s because I saw so much of myself in this guy to the point where I am convinced he’s my long-lost brother. This B0I starts out as this paranoid play-it-safe ‘nother brick in the wall type who just wants to get through his teenage life without any kind of trouble, and by the end is a guy who’s ready to shrug off getting impaled by an evil unicorn being ridden by a corrupted version of Star’s half-demon ex just to get him to snap out of it (it just now dawns on me how fuckin’ batshit this show is). I just love how as he’s easing up on his paranoia, he learns to stop taking himself so seriously and let loose every now and then. Adam McAruther deserves praise for playing this guy, and I don’t know who could ever play this guy like he did. If no other takeaways for this show were to be, it’d be that Marco is in a lineup of my favorite fictional characters of all time.
Now I sense some ears (ok fine all ears) are waiting for me to talk about the two together, so I’ll touch on it once, and make an entire post on it later: It’s great. It’s pleasing to the eye, it’s wholesome for the soul, it makes them both into better beings, the opposite attracts thing is done beautifully, the chemistry could make Bill Nye proud, and I think their ending was as good as it could be for them... though I do hate how long it took to get there.
OK LIGHTNING ROUND GO (can’t get ‘em al, so sorry):
-Tom: I like the guy, definitely a more relatable and visible character arc and his design is neat.

-Jackie: I wish my lesbian venice beach girl got more appreciation, but I luv her none the less.
-Janna: I luv my strange bisexual filipino witch-wannabee (you know what I said is true don’t deny it)

-Moon: Never really gave her full trust, but was not disappointed by her in any way, despite various actions in the end.
-River: I liked him in the beginning season, sorta trailed off by the end.
-Kelly: Not sure why she was there, but she was cool.
-Eclipsa: We stan that queen! Loved the fact that her motives were so grey, and you every could tell if she was going to turn out to be truly bad or not.
-Globgor: We stan that king! I adored how he actually was a threat back in his day, but now regrets everything he ever did then (plus him size shifting in fights is creative as hell), wish we could have had more of him, but it’s cool that we got any at all really.

-Glossaryck: I loved him, true chaotic neutral god. He was such a troll, and he has my respect (and to think all he wanted to do was die).
-Ponyhead: I hope that sack of shit gets donated to a glue factory.
But what is a good story without good villains? Well, this show wants to have a ton of good ones, but nothing really sticks to the wall too well, though they do leave an impact.
LUDO: This is how to do a comedic villain right. You have fun with him in the beginning, and then you make him into a legit threat the next, and by the end give him a redemption arc so as to let him go back on his old ways without soiling his actual good moments as an antagonist. He was the one who surprised me the most.

TOFFEE: Ooooohhhhhhhhh everybody loves this lawyer-lizard B0I and so do I. This guy’s plan was 1: not evil at all, 2: his methods were borderline black and grey, and 3: it was still going on in the background of the story of the entire show since his arival. His personality was cool, suave, persuasive, manipulative, downright terrifying sometimes, and he was just so good at it. While everyone certainly wishes we had more of him, what we got and how long le lasted just cements him as probably one of my all-time favorite villains ever really.

Ms. HEINOUS/METEORA: Oh shakespeare where art thou? Such a wondrous work this tragedey is. Heinous just starts out as a villain who pushes the patriarchy so you can say “fuck that shit,” tries to steal youth for herself, wants to kill Marco for ruining her perfection, y’know yahoo. But the moment you realize her name is Meteora, and what her past has been like... yeah, this is a fuckin’ shakespearian villain for certain. It gets to a point where you begin to agree with what she’s doing, and you’re glad thing turn out all right for her in the end, but god-damn she was such a captivating force to go up against. Scar can suck one compared to this.
MINA LOVEBERRY: I wanna say this was a good attempt at an Aku-type villain (humor and terror in perfect balance), but yeah she could have been handled better. For what we did get with her though, I’m content with it. It’s just funny to see hobo-usagi here just hulk out and talk with a southern accent about what is essentially senile racism n’ shit. There are hints to a tragic past that led to this, and that was nice, but overall not exactly a swan song.
In fact, that’s kinda how the whole ending was wasn’t it? It was serviceable, but nothing big to write home about. I could have definitely used a little more polish to flesh out some things, but we got left with enough to tide over I suppose, though I so wanna see more.
I mean, look at this new world we were left with! Could you imagine a new season just exploring that? It sounds like so much fun! However, the crew have this “leave them wanting more mentality (ha! hope you were paying attention to that foreshadowing!),” not to mention I have seen the creator Madame Daron Nefcy encourage all the creative fans this show has to do all sorts of stuff (of which we seemed to have wasted no time and not even waited for the show to end to start doing *glares at the fan-made-starco kids everywhere*).
Really, at the end of it all, I’d compare this entire series to a friend doing a cannonball from a high-dive. First, you’re amazed that they decided to climb the ladder. Second, you’re in awe of the guts their showing to prepare for the jump. Third, you gawk as they actually did jump off into the water from the height. But fourth, you see them underwater and watch them un form the ball and into a weird janky zero-gravity water thing swimming up for air, not to mention you remembered they didn’t swan dive. But that doesnt mean the plunge was all that bad, you enjoyed watching all the steps to it, didn’t you?
Overall, the score I shall leave it at would be... 7.5/10, and an easy thumbs up approval. It’s ending and other aspects have a lot to be desired, but the story and characters are too good to ignore.
Check it out if you haven’t already (probably binge it), and to Madame Nefcy (if by some stroke of a miracle you see this) thank you so much for creating this show. I am so glad I saw it despite my gripes, and I’d gladly see it again.

🎶 Take me out to the corn game, Take me out with the crowd; Buy me some corn shakes and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I never get back🎶 it’s the Cornball! Mewnies own Super Bowl where it’s actually more like the sport taken from Calvin and Hobbes! Which makes me wonder how Star didn’t figure out Football from “School Spirit” was a sport!? (shrugs) Play Ball!:
*Cornball!-Look! Buff Frog is here! Last we saw of him, he took Katrina and his other Buff Children out of Mewni due to the whole Monster/Mewman unification goin’ nowhere from “Is Another Mystery”, now he’s back! And his kids are grown up! Star had brought the Buff Frog family to the Cornball Games to get him to come back to Mewni now that Pro-Monster Queen of Darkness, Eclipsa, is in charge. Weeeeeeeeeeeellllll, it’s not that easy. Which brings me to the next question. 6.What is the current outcome of Monsters and Mewmans coexisting with each other?...........................Bad, very very very Bad!
Well f***ing HELLO PEOPLE! WERE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION!? Cuz I know f***ing well Star hasn’t! You want me to bring out the list!? (long awkward pause (annoyed sigh) pulls out scroll that unfolds across the floor) 1.“Butterfly Follies”, start of the final season, the Mewmans put on mockery play of River and Star to show how much they hate them for “making wrong choices” and being “idiots”, 2.“Swim Suit”, Rhombulus, a member of the Magic High Commission, refuses to take part in any of the new rule of the liberation of monsters even by the queen, 3.”Yada Yada Berries”, practically everyone tried to assasinate Eclipsa (and it was actually Mina), 4.”Down by the River”, despite the justice Eclipsa did for giving back the monsters homes, she didn’t really think of the Mewmans when they were kicked out leaving them homeless, 5.”The Ponyhead Show!”, minus that sweet little girl, everyone else hated Eclipsas song about how she’s trying to manage (and Ms.Ego Pony Head, is to blame for starting it having all the Mewmans compacts hacked, so they couldn’t shut it off thus fueling their hatred more), 6.”Surviving the Spiderbites”, aside from the alliance that was made between the Spiderbites, they don’t wish Globgor to be free and that just hurts Eclipsa and last but certainly not least, from the last ep before this, Washed up Mina Loveberry is coming after Eclipsa! (pants) You see it now!?
Just cuz this is the first Cornball game with Monsters and Mewmans playing against with each other and how things have changed, doesn’t mean it’s “better”. Buff Frog is damn well aware of that, thank you Buff Frog! And his point is further proven when the Cornball game starts off with the team leaders of a Monster and Mewman player pick their own species as teammates much to Stars chagrin (so much for intergration😒). She calls them out on their prejudice, but as the episodes I just listed, they never listen! And the game turns into a war zone. Ugh! This is what happens when you put a former teen princess in charge of unity. Second half of the final season and there’s still no improvement here folks on the whole Monster/Mewman settlement.
What is she gonna do!? IDK!? Despite there being adults who are supposed to be more mature and responsible like how Star is on occasion now, they’re not showing it and even Eclipsa is too preoccupied with motherhood to give reason into this! So what is the future!? Wait a minute, the children! Yes! Children are the future! While the “semi second Mewnipendence Day” was goin’ on, the children of the Monsters and Mewmans went out to actually play the game and have fun. Intergrated!. For them, they don’t see species, they see friends! They get along perfectly and everyone is touched. There’s still some hostility, but if the Generation X of Mewni screwed up in the past, then the Generation Z of Mewni can fix the future! Here’s hoping.
🎶I believe the children are our are future, Teach them well and let them lead the way🎶 Okay, so things are looking up higher than I thought and that’s a good thing (at least for the time being) and if this keeps up, maybe Mewmans and Monsters can finally live in harmony. Welcome back, Buff Frog! We missed you! And if Eclipsa can take some time and make some kind of settlement between the two worlds, I’m sure it’ll be home. A little note for the aftermath of the Severing Stone, Marco is doin’ fine just hangin’ out with his “Break-up Buddy” as eccentric announcers for the Cornball and it’s too soon to tell if the whole thing worked or not. Give us a little more insight and we’ll be the judges of that.
(“When You Wish Upon A Star” theme music plays and the children of Mewni rejoice)
Announcer:”Kids you just won the Cornball! Whattaya gonna do next!?”
Children of Mewni:”We’re goin to Disney World!”
(cheering intensifies)

Shining Star
Lets get this started :)
The show has really come far in terms of when it first premiered. It became more than a simple slice of life fantasy adventure about a magical princess from another dimension and turned into an idea that sometimes things are more than they appear to be and with that comes the moment when one must find themselves in a world that can be so misunderstood.
Even Star Butterfly herself has changed as well.
In the beginning of the story, our dear Star has been living a fairy tale life; she is a princess and future queen of the Kingdom of Mewni and is granted a magic wand that she can use at her disposal. Though she may be a princess, Star herself doesn't really want the responsibility or even the role of such a thing. She does what she wants to do whether it be fighting monsters or taming wild unicorns or just being herself. There can be no doubt that Star was a very reckless and irresponsible person.
Then Mewnipendance Day arrives and changes the narrative completely.
Star has been shown that the history between her fellow mewmans and the monsters were never on equal terms and this deeply unsettles Star, far more than anyone would realized. When she sees her friends reenact the "Great Monster Massacre", Star - instead of enjoying and celebrating the occasion as usual - becomes frighten and outright horrified of the whole event. That day Star saw the truth behind Mewni's actions and it terrified her. It had never occurred to Star, in her entire life living in Mewni, that what the kingdom had done and what they were doing to the monsters was unfair and wrong. Right until Marco questions her about it, Star has only ever believed in the notion that monsters were evil.
From that moment on, Star wanted to right the wrongs that her people have done.
So she decided to become a "better princess", protesting for better mewman and monster equality of peace, unity, and friendship. Star begins this process by trying to establish a petition of friendship and later with throwing a huge party at the ancient monster temple with all the teen rebel monsters and mewni royals attending together. Star even went so far as getting back together with Tom, who was inspired by her to be a "better prince", and by defending Eclipsa to be given a fair trial against the MHC and her mother's wishes.
In a way, Star seemed to be on the pathway to mending the tensions between mewmans and monsters. She indeed has become a much better princess as Star finally embraced the responsibility she has run away from for so long and seemed to be on her way to becoming an even better queen. Star has finally accepted her role and identity as princess.
That is until Monster Bash came that it made Star realize she didn't exactly know about her own family and that secrets were being kept from her finding out.
Once more, Star herself became lost once again with the truth that was kept from her whole life. This, more than anyone else, will leave them questioning who they really are and what they should do next.
Imagine one day, if you will, that everything that you believed in and thought you knew was all a complete lie. What would you do? How will you react? And most importantly, what does this mean of your identity?Who exactly are you now?
This has been an essential question that Star has been facing and now it has become more symbolic as the series nears its conclusion. If you want a more in-depth analysis on this, go read Vaylan’s analysis on the death of the self - Its amazing!
But more importantly, Star has changed so much from the beginning that it is almost unbelievable. She may have not been from a royal family and even though her home may not be as perfect as she believed, it didn't stop her from growing as a person, from caring about others, and from protecting her friends and family.
Star's journey has brought about several (or all if you want to be technical) life changing events concerning the Land of Mewni and its future. It cannot be coincidence that every time Star has learned something about the past of Mewni, the more each one of Star's decision has practically opened Pandora's box and it doesn't look like it is going end anytime soon.
These decisions have brought upon major change. It has practically started a ripple effect that has touched everything and everyone. This doesn't mean her choices were right or wrong in anyway. Far from it. In fact Star's actions seem to bring the necessary change that Mewni needs and with it, a better, brighter future for everyone: both mewmans and monsters alike.
Because if Star hadn't learned the real truth behind the Land of Mewni, she might have continued onward thinking that it was alright. That Mewni was good, the MHC were her allies, and that the monsters were bad. If that hadn't happened, perhaps the secrets involving Mewni and the Butterfly family would have remained hidden:
If Star had not destroyed the wand in exchange for Marco's safety, she may never have known about the contract that Moon had made with Eclipsa all those years ago in the exchange for the Darkest Spell.
If Eclipsa hadn't been defended from being crystallized again, Star may have never known that her family were lied to and were made as an puppet under the control of the Magic High Commission.
If Eclipsa hadn't protected the kingdom against Meteora, then Star wouldn't have felt necessary to returned the wand to Eclipsa as atonement for the sins of her own family.
All throughout these past three seasons, Star Vs have given us revelation upon revelation of the evil that is Mewni: the kingdom’s oppression on monster kind, The Magical High Commission’s role in tampering and withholding secrets, and in keeping magic within the noble and the rich, and out of monsters/peasants reach. This is the true forces of evil that Star needed to defeat against but it wasn't until she needed to find herself that it became so much clearer.
All it really took to gain this knowledge was the destruction of the royal magic wand, the reveal of the Butterfly family secret, and lastly the all powerful magic wand being given away by its acting queen: Star Butterfly herself.
This series really has come far and I cannot wait to see what happens next for our dear shining Star!
Thanks so much reading!
