Match Review: Manchester United U21 1-1 Hertha Berlin U21

A tough game but a fair result for United's U21s at Salford.

United kicked off their Premier League International Cup group stage against Hertha Berlin and almost had the perfect start when Ethan Wheatley hit the post inside 30 seconds.

Berlin woke up from thereon in and whilst put under pressure from United, they found it quite easy to play a killer through ball when sat deep and to stretch United and force them back down the field into their own half.

A half-time refresh and the substitute Zach Baumann into midfield combined to give United the lead in the 64th minute with a low driven finish just inside the Hertha box whilst under pressure from two defenders.

The game would remain very end-to-end until the 93rd minute when United's desperate attempts to scramble a corner out of the box saw Tyler Fletcher kick out the legs of Berlin no7 Ensar Aksakal, who proceeded to score the resulting penalty and force the 1-1 draw.

Group C features PSV, the group favourites, as well as Norwich, Fulham and Liverpool from England. United's next game is... against PSV on October 30th - again at home. A result there would make up for this game for sure, but it's a big ask...
