#even sasuke as sakura’s HUSBAND shows no love towards her but looks ANNOYED when she swoons over her ring

If Kishimoto really wants people to believe that Sasuke loves Sakura and that they have such a good marriage then he's doing a piss poor job at it. You don't see people arguing if Minato loved Kushina or not or if Dan loved Tsunade or not. You don't. The fact that there are so many people arguing whether Sasuke loves Sakura or not, and many people believing he doesn't is just proof that Kishimoto failed somewhere or else there wouldn't be this much controversy surrounding this matter. It's either Kishimoto implying Sasuke does not love her, either Kishimoto intending to portray his idea of a good realtionship/loving husband through SS and failing miserably. Sasuke did not look happy when he saw Sakura in Gaiden first time after 10 years of absence. He couldn't even bother to send a letter to her and Sarada to let them know he was alright and thinking about them during this period. And no, please don't come at me with that bullshit excuse that he didn't keep in contact because he wanted to keep the secrecy of his mission and did not want any private information to leak and that's why he was only keeping in contact with the Hokage or whatever. No one says that if he ever bothered to write them he had to go into details about his mission. He could've just told them he's alright, that he misses them and hopes they're fine and that would've been great too and wouldn't have compromised his mission in any way. The man has space time abilities for fuck's sake. He could've easily teleported to see them and then go back to his business. In my opinion Kishimoto wrote SS in this ambiguous way to appease both the SS haters and the SS shippers. He knew SS fans were going to be happy with whatever he threw at them even if it was the absolute bottom of the barrel and he knew the antis were gonna have a good time using Gaiden to further tear the ship apart. This man is either terrible at writing romance either a huge troll who enjoys pitying his readers against each other. Or maybe both. And I assure you, I don't even hate SS, despite what I have written so far, nor do I ship something else. And Sasuke is also my favorite character. I'm indifferent to this pairing and maybe that's why I can have a more objective opinion on it than its shippers or its haters since I'm not biased due to personal feelings of either distaste or love for it. SS can be seen in both a good and a bad light, but to be honest the balance is more inclined towards the bad light.
This is just more of the stuff that I've heard plenty of times before. I'll firstly preface this by saying that I'm very highly critical of Gaiden because it included pointless drama for the sake of pointless drama. It's execution was horrendous to say the least, but I'll always still appreciate the message that Kishi was trying to relay. However, I will always take issue with those who defend the notion that Sasuke doesn't love Sakura. Hence, the following.
Minato wasn't drowning in hatred due to a supernatural phenomenon which cause him to push away love in favour of the darkness. Dan wasn't made to undertake a preposterously long mission while intending to keep everything about it confidential. Why on earth do people think they can just compare any random relationships to SS's and go "well look at this couple! Why couldn't SS have been more like them?". Well here's your answer - Because their situations were nothing alike. But why do people constantly believe that those relationships are the only models for what a loving relationship can be? The struggles that Sasuke and Sakura faced during Gaiden were not due to issues with each other, but rather, they were shown facing hurdles which they overcame together. They were perfectly happy with each other, and not once did their dedication to one another ever falter during Sasuke's mission. Just because the couple faced hard times does not mean their bond is any weaker. On the contrary, the fact they they faced those hard times together and came out of them just as strong if not stronger than before, is a testament to the strength of the relationship.
You wanna know what I don't see? I don't see people questioning Neji and Hinata's relationship despite Neji trying to kill her during the Chuunin Exams. I don't see people questioning Hiashi's feelings towards Hinata despite essentially disowning her because he deemed her to be a failure. I don't see people questioning Gaara being the Kazekage despite him previously being feared as a killing machine who slaughtered many innocent people, by the very same villagers who now respect him as their leader. I don't see people questioning why Kabuto was trusted to become the head of the Orphanage and taking care of the future of the village, despite being a notorious war criminal. No, but of course people will question SS right? Despite them just being another example of the same theme.
It's either Kishimoto implying Sasuke does not love her, either Kishimoto intending to portray his idea of a good relationship/loving husband through SS and failing miserably.
Kishi flat out said, that the love between the Uchiha family is the real deal. He's not implying anything, and if he truly failed at depicting this, then SS wouldn't have consistently proven to be the most popular canonised pairing for years following the manga's ending.
Sasuke did not look happy when he saw Sakura in Gaiden first time after 10 years of absence.
And you think that's indicative that he doesn't love her? Are you serious? The entire time, Sasuke was very clearly shown to be aggravated because people who weren't supposed to be at his and Naruto's secret meeting place kept showing up. He didn't look happy when first meeting Naruto either, despite not seeing him for just as long. So what? You think that means he doesn't care about Naruto either? He was aggravated that Sarada was there because she was supposed to be in the village safe from all this, he was annoyed with Naruto for allowing the kids to follow him in the first place, and yeah, he didn't jump for joy when seeing Sakura because again, she was meant to be watching over Sarada in the village. One of the biggest incentives for his secrecy was to keep Sarada safe, and everything that was happening then, was the opposite of that.
You can call it a "bullshit excuse" all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that this is the reason that was given. But it's like people just refuse to acknowledge the fact that Sasuke admitted that he had made a big mistake, and refused to allow Sakura to apologise because he knew that he was the one at fault:
I mean what? Do people think that Sasuke has to be perfect or something? Is he not a human who makes mistakes just like everyone else? Sasuke knew that he took his secrecy too far, he hadn't anticipated the adverse affects his absence would have on Sarada, and he apologised for his mistake. Why? Because he cares, for goodness sake it's not hard to comprehend. I seriously would have never thought that people would actually question whether or not he loves his family. Why would Kishi promote a loveless marriage in his manga aimed at young boys? It just boggles the mind. If Sasuke didn't care about them, he wouldn't have thought he did anything wrong by his lack of contact with his daughter. I emphasise with his daughter because Sakura was still somewhat in contact with Sasuke as she was kept informed of what he was doing.
In my opinion Kishimoto wrote SS in this ambiguous way to appease both the SS haters and the SS shippers.
Why would Kishi care about appeasing the same fans who harassed him so badly following the manga's conclusion, that his editior had to respond in broken English and basically tell those entitled children that the story doesn't belong to them? I'll reiterate that there's nothing "ambiguous" about their relationship, nor is Kishi implying anything. Gaiden made it crystal clear, that the love between the Uchiha family is the real deal, there's nothing ambiguous about that statement, there's nothing ambiguous about Sasuke giving Sakura the forehead poke, and there's nothing ambiguous about Sasuke flat out clarifying that his heart is connected to Sakura's.

Written for @harunosakuraweek Day 6 - Soulmates/Family
Rating : Mature
Relationship : Haruno Sakura and Uchiha Sasuke
Summary : When Sakura dreads death, Sasuke finds the meaning of Soulmate
~
No matter how annoying it could be, Sasuke secretly enjoyed Sakura’s chattering. Sasuke was always amazed - though he seldom showed it - by how Sakura could talk about a patient she had attended earlier that day and in the next moment rant about something mundane. The shrill tone that her voice carried when she talked about her day left him amused sometimes.
However, not all days were the same. Some days were peaceful, like when Sakura lulled Sarada to sleep or when she snuggled while he read.
Sasuke hadn't found a consistent pattern. He embraced her presence in whatever form she offered it — he would delve deep into the comfortable silence they shared and never complained about her mindless ramblings.
Patience was something she had mastered, he knew. She had done so because of him. So when the thick layer of patience slipped down from her skin, he spared her his raging flames. Instead, he listened to whatever she had bottled up, how his actions had hurt her in the past… and sometimes in the present time, too.
Patience was not the best weapon in his artillery, but whenever Sakura threw tantrums at him, his heart felt a soothing ache. Later he would smirk and playfully poke her forehead when she would come crying, feeling terrible for everything she had said. Love wasn’t an easy task, that’s what Sakura had taught him, and in times like those he reminded her the same.
The concept of a soulmate wasn’t quite clear to him, but in living with Sakura, he understood it was the art of proving he was the right person for his better half. For Sakura, it came naturally, but for Sasuke, he had to tame and train himself continuously till he could achieve perfection.
Her low greeting of “I’m home” didn’t catch his attention, but when he saw Sakura’s blank face, he figured out something was wrong. He felt even more uneasy when she stared at Sarada, asleep in his arm, with eyes he had never seen before. Sakura gave him a smile, her eyes not reflecting their usual gleam, before passing by his side.
It had always been hard for Sasuke to probe into people’s mood and emotions, but Sakura was acting strangely. He wanted to believe he was mistaken, but the sharp shift in her behaviour stirred some restlessness within him. He walked silently inside their bedroom and laid his sleeping daughter down in her crib, guarding her by pillows.
Resting with Sarada till Sakura joined them was undoubtedly the best option, but instead he followed her towards the bathroom. He could hear the sound of water running from shower. He sighed, gathering courage, his fist clenching at his side.
He rationalized his wandering thoughts by telling himself to wait till she took a shower. Barging into her privacy felt very wrong to him, but he was always driven by impatience and uncertainty. Hesitatingly, he knocked on the bathroom door.
..........
Sakura held back her tears until she locked herself inside the bathroom. Her palm flew up to muffle her sobs while tears streamed out of her eyes. The images from the day earlier played in a loop in her mind. All she could hear was a child wailing, and all she could see was a man’s agonized face, mourning over the death of a woman.
That woman had been her patient — a patient whom she found similar to herself. Sakura used to take out a few minutes from her rounds to check on her when her husband and son visited her patient. She had seen her own family within them, and that had become a reason for her to smile amidst the busy hours of her hectic shifts.
Her patient had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Sakura had been determined to do everything to save her life. Sakura’s efforts had been bearing fruit, and her patient had been responding to her treatment, but suddenly things had spiralled out of her control. In spite of her efforts and hopes, her patient had died earlier that day, and she realised how it felt to part with a loved one. For the sake of medical professionalism, she acted calm and detached from the situation in the hospital, but as soon she stepped inside her home, she couldn’t hold it in anymore.
She undressed herself and stepped into the shower. She needed to steady herself up. She tried to pacify herself as cold water ran over her body. The more she tried not to think about it, the more her heart was gripped with regrets and fears, until she heard a soft knock. There’s no way she could face Sasuke like that, and she thought it’d be better if she didn’t answer.
..........
In the few seconds Sasuke had to wait till the door opened, he began to question his decision. He heard her footsteps, before the sharp metallic sound of lock broke his chain of thought. He heard Sakura moving again until the sound of water spilling over her body resumed. From the gap of the slightly opened door, his eyes fell on her heap of discarded clothes. This was something else that was different from Sakura’s normal behaviour, and it gave him a tug to push the door open and enter.
Sakura’s shoulders were slumped and her right hand was pressed against the tiles supporting her weight. Her eyes were tightly shut, not acknowledging Sasuke’s presence.
He took in Sakura’s body under the shower — the wet pink locks sticking to the side of her face, the arch of her back, and the shaking hand that was barely holding her up. She looked totally broken, but he couldn’t help but admire her beauty.
A bout of anger coursed through him. He wanted to ask what was bothering her, but he couldn’t. He realized he wasn’t like Sakura who could easily find a way to calm others. During their journey, Sakura would hug him tightly to ease his thoughts when he brooded about his past.
He calmed himself as he slipped out of his garments before walking to join her in the shower. He almost sprang away when the cold water touched his body. He knew Sakura always preferred bathing in hot water after her shifts. For another few moments, he stood, staring at her back, watching her quivering form, not knowing how and what he could do to ease her up. The more he watched her slouched body, the more helpless he felt.
Uncertainly, he placed his palm on her stiff shoulder. Once Sakura had told him that helping your partner through difficult times was also a kind of love. Sakura had proven her love for him, and it was his turn to prove that she didn’t make any mistake doing so. Moreover, to let her know that he was there when she needed him.
Sakura jerked from the sudden touch and her eyes flew open. She was so engrossed in her thought that she didn’t notice Sasuke was behind her. She turned her head back to meet Sasuke’s gaze and faked a smile.
Sasuke silently pleaded that she would let him know the cause of her suffering, but he gently squeezed her shoulder and could only say, “You okay?”
Sakura nodded and turned again, facing the wall. A part of her wanted to tell Sasuke that she wasn’t okay, but she couldn’t. Sasuke knew this pain a lot better than she did, and she didn’t want to peel the bandage from Sasuke’s own wounds.
Sasuke traced a path over her shoulder, kneading the skin. Her breaths came out shaky, but she could feel the knots easing. Eventually Sasuke dipped his hand at the nape of her neck, slightly squeezing and rubbing there. He repeated the action, his hand down her waist as he placed soft kisses against the arch of her spine.
The sensation that ran through her body overwhelmed her senses, easing her heavy thoughts. It was easier to give into her desire rather than struggle to settle herself. Unable to think straight, she pulled Sasuke’s palm to her breast. Sasuke was conflicted, because Sakura had always relied on verbal communication rather than her actions to guide him. Taking that as a cue, Sasuke palmed her supple mounds.
He had always been attracted to his wife, but sex was the last thing he wanted at that moment. Sakura’s strangled moans were turning him on, but he reminded himself he was there to comfort her. He tried restraining himself, but it was harder than he had thought.
Sakura looked towards Sasuke, confused when he retracted his hand. Sasuke captured her lips as soon as she turned back. Sakura took her time to respond initially. Their deep kiss made goosebumps break out all over her skin as cold water ran over their bodies.
As they pulled apart, Sasuke turned off the shower. He smirked when he heard Sakura yelp as he pulled her into his lap at the edge of the bathtub.
“Anata?” Sakura asked, her voice laced with concern.
Sasuke wanted to tell her that he was there to ease her burden. He nuzzled her neck, bringing a small smile on her face. Sasuke’s unruly hair tickled her nose and she giggled, adjusting her position. She realised Sasuke was trying to help her in his own way, and it was comforting that he hadn’t yet asked about the reason.
As he felt Sakura’s body relax a little, he mindlessly drew a pattern over her stomach before flicking lightly on her clit. Sakura moaned breathily, focussing her mind on the pleasure.
Sasuke’s fingers soon fell into a steady pace, caressing the sensitive bundle of nerves. Sakura stifled a moan, biting her lips. Sasuke groaned as Sakura’s smooth thigh rub against his erection, arousing him more.
Although pleasure was all over her mind and body, bits and pieces of her memories were still flashing. It wasn’t the first time she had lost a patient. But now that she was a mother and wife, the incident had left a mark on her.
What if something happens to me? Would Sarada and Sasuke-kun be okay?
Sakura closed her eyes, waiting for pleasure to take over, but instead she was haunted by the thoughts of losing them. Tears started forming in her eyes and she turned her face away.
She took breaths so she could reciprocate to Sasuke’s touch, but it was hard to just wipe away the trauma and fear from her mind. She started losing her rhythm until she felt Sasuke's mouth pressing against the shell of her ear and she heard him say, “It’s okay. I am here.”
Her lower body reacted much faster than she could register. She gasped and arched her back, body spiralling with pleasure. She experienced seconds of bliss, moaning and sighing before falling limp on Sasuke’s chest.
The orgasm hadn’t been the best, but for her it was one that meant most. Sasuke’s words were more precious than anything, and that made her realize that she had to be there for him too.
It was essential to love and to be loved back. She had made Sasuke believe that loving again didn’t have to be painful. Sakura sighed softly, reprimanding herself for forgetting the same, but she was glad Sasuke had reminded her in his own way.
Sakura turned back again, this time with a big smile on her face, with eyes shining with tears of gratitude. The burn in Sasuke’s chest that had arisen when Sakura came back home was finally soothed.
The face he had wanted to see was finally there, and he couldn’t help but to smile back. Maybe Sakura was right when she had said to him once that he could fix things as well, no matter how broken he was.
Soulmates. He sat there brooding as he considered it, holding Sakura close to his body. Sakura’s love had seeped through the broken crevices of his soul and kept the pieces together. Unknowingly, he had again become lost in his world of thoughts when Sakura gently tapped on his jaw.
“Should I take care of that?” Sakura asked, blushing, pointing towards his semi-hard erection. Sasuke groaned in embarrassment, and Sakura giggled. Nothing could have sounded more melodious for him then.
This time, she pulled him in a kiss while she traced his abdomen. They pulled back abruptly when their daughter’s cries drifted in from the other room. Seeing the disappointed look on Sasuke’s face, Sakura giggled again. She pecked Sasuke on the cheek and promised to come back soon.
She shot an apologetic smile as she wrapped her body in a robe before exiting the washroom to feed her daughter.
Although he hated being left unattended at that moment, Sakura's chortle and Sarada’s wailing now-a-days were reminders that he had a family.

konoha is a feeling
ao3
rating: k+
summary: a day in sasuke's journey, where he thinks of home... its burdens, and its joys. sasuke-centric, sasusaku.
// "...There are days that he considers it, considers leaving Konoha, his home, behind. It would be the easier path, starting from scratch in a new village, without a history that was written bloody by ancestors he hadn't even known he had." //
It's a rare day of leisure, generously warm and sunny, and Sasuke, on his journey of atonement, finds himself feeling out of place on the narrow streets of a small village, that he has stumbled into. There’s a thrum of sellers advertising their fresh vegetables, citizens striking bargains, and childish tantrums at the sweet dumplings cart.
Maybe it's because he's an outsider watching the intimacy of a society that has known its people for years, or the fact that he's covered head to do in protective ninja clothing in comparison to the villagers who walk carefree in civilian clothing, but he is starkly aware that he sticks out like a store thumb.
So, he hurries into the restaurant closest to him, and sinks into an inconspicuous booth. The waitress arrives almost instantly, greeting him with a smile and asking him what he would like. Blankly, he realizes he rushed in without even seeing what sort of a restaurant it is, so he asks, "... What would you recommend?"
"Our ramen broth is our chef's speciality," she says enthusiastically, and Sasuke's lips quirk at the corners, thinking of a certain blonde who ate nothing else, "... I'm sure you'll find it to your taste!"
"I'll have one serving, please."
"... Are you just visiting, Sir?"
Startled at the conversation continuing longer than it needed to, he looks up at the waitress. "... Yes." It's curt, as he usually is, but his voice doesn't betray the unsettled feeling in his chest as he takes in the green of her eyes - it's a different green, not the right green - the strawberry tinge on her blonde hair, and the warmth of her smile.
"I'm sure you'll love it," she flashes him a bright smile, "So many visitors often want to move here permanently!"
"... I could," she giggles, consciously, and Sasuke's discomfort starts to show through his stoic demeanour, "show you around later, if you'd like.
He often shows himself out of uncomfortable situations with a detached silence that manages to discourage people from pursuing responses from him, but after two seconds of silence and Sasuke having to suffer through an extremely hopeful expression from the woman in front of him, he manages, "... I'm leaving in a few hours."
She looks disappointed, and dejectedly brushes it aside, leaving to bring him the food that he's been promised. A sigh escapes him, and it's then that he realises he's been holding his breath this whole time.
He tunes out the low hum of conversation amongst the restaurant's patrons, the last statement of the waitress playing more on his mind than it should.
...There are days that he considers it, considers leaving Konoha, his home, behind. It would be the easier path, starting from scratch in a new village, without a history that was written bloody by ancestors he hadn't even known he had.
There was a sinful appeal to it, a freedom that temporarily quelled the burdens of guilt and shame that he carried with him in his journey. It never lasts too long, like most things that seem too easy to be true. His bubbles of illusion always burst when he is reminded of the gravity of everything he would have to leave behind.
Konoha is not just the stares of people who whisper as he passes by, wondering why the Hokage pardoned a nukenin who had harboured ambitions to destroy their little village. Konoha is not just the Uchiha grounds that have remained a graveyard ever since the Council decided to extinguish the flames of the Uchiha, with his brother's hand. Konoha is more than his academy class that toes this strange line of half-truths, swinging between respect for his strength and concern for his violent past.
Konoha is also a sensei who is actually so much more than that, a protector, who has raised him and forgiven him like only a parent would. Konoha is home to the friend who'd saved him - reached out into the jaws of despair, where he'd made a home for himself, and pulled him out before he was consumed by it. In moments like this, where the selfish, weak threads of his mind tempt him to leave all that behind, Sasuke is reminded that Naruto would save him again, save him from his own escapism, and bring him back to the bond that he has by now realized that he cannot live without. It brings about an odd feeling, a foreign smile to his face.
But Konoha is more than Naruto and Kakashi... and this was the complicated bit; Konoha was also her.
Konoha was also Haruno Sakura, with her pink hair, and green eyes that seemed to shed tears so easily - for him, so many tears that she has shed for him, and that notion twists in his heart - and the I-love-yous that spilled from her lips so often, that have only grown more fervent and genuine regardless of his actions towards her.
The waitress returns to his table after he is done with his meal, and he is quick to offer his money and leave, and not linger on the resemblance in her features that pulled him into this spiral in the first place. He closes his eyes to her hopeful smile and the niceness that she probably doesn't dole out to every customer, the green eyes and the light hair that reminded him just how heartsick he was for her.
It doesn’t matter if he indulges in the fantasy of leaving everything behind, and starting over in this village whose name he doesn’t even know… maybe even with the woman who served him his lunch, a woman who he didn't have any history with.
A woman who he's never called annoying, or left behind, or knocked out, or tried to kill.
A woman with whom he'd have nothing to apologize for apart from coming home late or working too hard or letting her win arguments for the sake of peace.
... It doesn't matter, because when he looked at her, he wasn't really looking at her, he was looking at the shadow of a woman through regret-tinted glasses, wishing he could go back and rewrite his story with - his - Sakura.
Because no matter how much he travels and atones for his sins, he hasn't even scratched the surface of the atonement he must beg for with her, and that is a journey that he doesn't even know where to start.
.
.
.
As he walks out of the restaurant, his ears pick up on the chatter between the middle-aged couple who run the joint.
"You always do this dear! I know you want to feed the customers well," the woman chides her husband affectionately, "but you have to be mindful of ingredients, or else we'll run out..."
"Ah," the husband chuckles, "... What would I do without you, Natsumi?"
It's a simple picture of domestic banter, and in that moment Sasuke is honest with himself about how much he craves something similar. And he allows himself to wonder if he can ever have this, permission to love his wife simply, and happily, without the stain of regret and irredeemable actions.
But while these thoughts of his are often sombre, dark, and unforgiving, he knows Sakura is the exact opposite. And so, he vows to take just a little more time, to wander these hopeless thoughts just a little while longer, till he can begin to muster up the forgiveness for himself that he knows awaits him in Konoha.

SSM20 #8: Let’s play pretend
Sakura tells Sasuke the reasons why they should get married. RTN!AU (Rated T)
When his father calls for a family meeting, Sasuke half fears it’s been finally revealed that he was the one that burned down the garden shed and not the neighborhood teens as he claimed.
But when his mother also arrives with a stern expression, Sasuke realizes this is worse than a bit of light arson.
He fidgets at the dining table nervously as he watches his father nod to his mother to begin.
“As you know,” she starts, “you are getting to age where one should consider settling down.”
Sasuke groans.
“Mother!” But she raises her hand to silence him.
“Sasuke, this is a good opportunity for you and the clan.”
“What about Aniki?”
His mother’s face adopts a sour look, not pleased to be interrupted. “Your brother has his own duties. You should only concern yourself with your own.”
Sasuke tries to protest once again but his mother’s stony features leave no room for argument.
“I’d expect you not to embarrass yourself or the clan,” Her expression is one of usual exasperation at his antics. “Sasuke, it is time for you to grow up.”
---
Sasuke has always been quite bitter that his brother is allowed to gallivant around the countryside with his band of questionable acquaintances while the responsibilities of their clan are dumped onto him.
And it’s not that he doesn’t want to get married either! Having spent so much of his life devoted to his family’s whims, Sasuke at least wants to choose who he wants to spend his life with.
Secretly, he quite enjoys the daydreams where he comes home to have a quiet night with the love of his life and what he is sure to be their small squadron of children.
So Sasuke comes up with a plan.
He supposes if he makes himself an utter unmarriageable fool, this nonsense would be over. Even a name as prestigious as Uchiha would not be enough to secure an engagement if he is the most undesirable human being in the world.
So the day of the marriage interview, he tries to look like the failure his family assumes he is. Sasuke puts on a sweat suit he wore out to training two days ago paired with his sandals and mismatched fuzzy socks. He doesn’t brush his teeth and doesn’t even style his hair. He even spends a few days trying to grow a beard.
Sasuke looks like an absolute disaster. Which is quite a hard thing to do he might add; curse his beautiful face!
He arrives at the casual diner he had chosen feeling confident and clever, because what could be more disappointing to start off a potential marriage than a place he knows has more health violations than he has fingers?
That is until he realizes who his mother managed to set him up with.
Sakura-chan, beautiful as ever, is sitting in the sticky booth the hostess leads him to with a cup of what he is sure is black coffee.
Sasuke immediately regrets every life choice he has ever made. He wonders whether activating the Izanami right now would save him from dying of embarrassment.
A thousand thoughts are running through his head all at once. Is this a joke? What is Sakura-chan doing here? What about Menma? Should he turn around and walk out like nothing happened?
However she glances up at him with those lovely eyes of hers and Sasuke cannot help but blurt out the most pressing thing tumbling around in his short-circuiting brain.
“I thought you wanted to get married for love?!”
Not missing a beat, “Good morning to you too, Sasuke. I see you know how to impress a lady.”
Sasuke wonders if he can throw himself out the window.
But his pride dictates that he cannot embarrass himself anymore in front of Konoha’s fairest, so he squares up, grits his teeth, and slides into the booth.
“Don’t change the subject,” taking in her own outfit. White coat and business casual. So it must be clinic day. “Why are you here Sakura-chan?”
He cannot think of any reason why Sakura would suddenly want to marry him; Sasuke has always considered the greatest tragedy and irony in his life is the fact that the love of his life does not feel the same way. So he waits for her explanation.
Sakura, to her credit, always is cool and collected and is logical to a fault. She does not shy away from his questioning facing him directly to answer.
“Your mother asked me to consider a marriage into the Uchiha clan.”
Sasuke rolls his eyes, “Just because you two get along doesn’t mean you have to humor her, especially when it comes to getting married!”
She takes a sip of her coffee, now not quite looking at him. Almost guilty. “She told me that if I married either you or Itachi-san, your clan would back my bid for Hokage.”
Anger bubbles in his stomach. Envy burns down his throat. Betrayal is bitter on his tongue. It is one thing for his mother to meddle in his life, it’s another for Sakura to be so callous as to use his love for power.
“Why are you meeting me then?” His brother might be a flighty vagabond, but Itachi is the heir and he is the spare.
She seems to understand what he is truly asking. “Sasuke, you are a rising star in the Konoha. The people of this village trust you greatly.”
“You can’t stand me.”
“You’re annoying but I don’t hate you.” She smiles sadly, as if enjoying a particularly cruel joke. “I don’t think I could hate you, truly.”
“Sakura-chan, with all due respect, between your father and the Fifth’s recommendation, I don’t think you need my family at all.”
Sasuke takes a deep calming breath to hide his frustration, trying to act nonchalant, “But if you still want to get hitched Kitten, I’m all for it.” He even throws in a lighthearted wink.
She ignores his last comment. “My father and Tsunade-shishou are popular with the people, but the council is not fond of either of them. Too peace loving apparently.”
“My family isn’t very popular with the council either.”
“But the Uchiha clan is one of the oldest clans in Konoha, its influence is enough to convince other families. Enough to over rule the council.” Sakura smiles wryly, “In return, the Uchiha clan will have ties with the Hokage office. Think of it as a strategic alliance.”
This is just like Sakura, cold and calculating. Sasuke does not hate it; her ambitions are part of her charm.
“What’s in it for me then?”
“If you do accept, your parents would be satisfied you are an upstanding, successful citizen and will no longer have any right prying in your affairs.”
He doubts that it would stop them but allows her to continue, “I also don’t plan to…interfere with your extramarital activities.” Sasuke begins to feel a sense of dread as Sakura continues, “A marriage of convenience if you will.”
This is his boiling point and he finds himself shouting.
“No, it’s a sham! How you could have completely given up on love?!”
Sakura is a woman who has always been loved shallowly and one can only be the object of admiration for long before realizing it’s only empty reverence. The one thing she always craved is the unconditional love she lost so long ago along when her parents passed. Sasuke cannot believe Sakura can give up that so easily.
“You’re the one who doesn’t understand anything Charasuke!” She is now equally angry, “Do you think I want to use my husband’s name to get the Hokage’s seat!? How everything I’ve spent my life working for amounts to nothing in the eyes of the council?! ”
“It doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your own happiness for this!” Because even now, even though his affections for her are unyielding and painful and true, he just wants her to be happy.
To find love and be loved, even if it isn’t with him.
“I’m running out of time!” She is shaking now, in anger, in frustration, in a hopelessness Sasuke has never seen. “Tsunade -shishou told me that the council is considering making Menma the Hokage after she retires.”
“Menma? What? He can barely carry conversation!” And he is impulsive. Just as likely to start a war as he is to end it.
Sakura looks sick, “Menma has a strong shinobi, but that’s all he is. He is not suited for politics. He only knows how to end conflicts with shows of strength.”
“Do you really think that Menma will actually accept the position?” Because regardless of their disagreements, Menma is still his best friend. Menma isn’t the type to seek power wantonly.
“Maybe, maybe not. But he is now married to the Hyuuga family. And you know how easily he can be influenced.”
Sasuke wants to defend his friend’s honor but he admits she has a point.
“So when your mother came to me about this...I don’t know I just thought this might be my only chance.
I know this is unfair to you, which is why we can just pretend to be a married couple in name only. You are under no obligation to change your ways Sasuke.”
Sakura is resigned to her fate to a supposedly loveless marriage and Sasuke hates it.
“But I cannot let Menma and the council turn this village into a battlefield. I cannot let them ruin my parent’s legacy.”
This is insane. It’s not right. She may be the logical one, but he has always been the romantic.
This is not at all how he imagines their life together would be.
Sakura takes in his uncharacteristic silence as the end of the conversation and gathers her things.
“You don’t have to answer me right now, just think about it.” And with that she departs, leaving him alone in the booth.
---
Sasuke has always pretended that his family’s obvious favoritism and Sakura’s indifference towards him, never bothered him.
He distracts himself with pretty girls and pretty flowers. But really, he just does not have the courage to face the reality of being the fallback and second place.
That no matter what he does or how hard he works, he will never measure up to the Uchiha’s prodigal son or even his best friend.
He just wants someone to look at him and only him.
And maybe that's why he has always been so drawn to Sakura, the daughter of fallen heroes.
Because maybe she just also wanted someone to see her tears. To realize what was underneath her facade.
The pretty girl who cries when she is alone so she doesn’t bother anyone else, yet in front of the rest of the world is the image of stunning grace and confidence. Who heals him when he bleeds and listens to him when he cannot bear the expectations of his family anymore.
He admires her bravery. He falls for her kindness.
Sasuke loves her, he has for a long time.
He wonders if she knows this.
And so that’s why he is waiting outside the clinic later that afternoon, in his best clothes, clean shaven, with a bouquet of lavender flowers.
No more pretenses.
He will give her his name, the world, and their marriage will be anything but loveless. He will make sure of it.

Chapter 7
“So, where are we going?” She whispered on his ear, getting on the back of his Harley, holding her ball gown up her thighs, arms wrapped around his middle, before she pressed a mischievous kiss on his cheek.
“Party’s over, I’m going home” He responded, with a hint of seriousness in his tone she hadn’t heard in quite some time.
“I’m coming with!” she chirped, then continued on a mocked seductive voice, “you know what they say about graduation”
He scoffed at her implication, “We’ve already had sex before, Sakura” He explained, trying to rid himself of any feelings she was bringing up in him, to get out of going home with her, to remember his plans. Knowing if he waited longer, she’d end up changing his mind and making him stay. That just wouldn’t do.
“Yes, but it’s expected! we might have lost our virginities a loooong long time ago” She explained between drunken giggles, taking another sip of the small flask of alcohol they sneaked into their graduation party. “Still, expected it is, and we shall not disappoint! Come on, my parents are not expecting me tonight”
“Fine, let’s go” He relented. He would have to do this the hard way.
She didn’t even question him when he took roads that lead nowhere near his home or hers, assuming, since it was a special night, they were heading to a hotel or something. But when he pulled over the side of the empty highway, and held her hand into his shaky one, she finally wondered, “Sasuke-kun… what’s going on?”
“I’m leaving” He said sternly.
“Where… why?” She asked, shivering when the cold wind caressed her bare shoulders.
He took off the blazer she had forced him to wear to the party over his jeans and t-shirt, since he’d refused to wear a tux, and wrapped it around her, taking one last selfish moment to kiss her forehead, before getting back on his bike and revving it up to speed away.
“Sasuke-kun wait! please don’t leave…” She screamed behind him. Watching as the lights of his motorcycle faded in the distance, her tears felt cold against her face, clouding her vision from the last glance he gave to her. To the beautiful girl, in a bright shinny gown, whose heart he’d just broken.
She felt lost, scared, and alone in the highway that promised nothing more than a long way home, with no one to come back to her. She didn’t know how much time it passed before she started making her way back, nor did she know how long she walked before she reached the corner of their street, where Sasuke’s now abandoned house stood, dark and imposing as the boy himself.
It was then, as she looked into the former Uchiha household that her sadness turned to anger. The numbness that masked the pain she felt from her bleeding blisters, started to fade away. She took off her heels in anger and threw them at the front facing window of his house.
The sound of shattering glass was so loud, it echoed in her ears even as she woke up from her vivid nightmare. She almost thought someone had broken into her apartment as the sound felt so real, the dream so convincing she actually felt as if she was walked all those hours to reach her home.
Her ability to remember details and facts always surprised other people. Sakura always had a knack for memorizing. But this didn’t feel like remembering, this dream felt as if she was reliving one of the most traumatic events of her life, she thought it must be some kind of karmic punishment.
She was fully awake then, much too early for her liking on that Saturday morning, considering the sun wasn’t even up by then, still she was unable, as much a she tried, to go back to sleep, she thought she might as well take advantage of the early start, thinking of the mountain of documents she had procrastinated in completing during the week, on account of all the drama she had to deal with her new employer.
She also remembered she had pending work in the case Naruto had assigned her to. After her glorious day at court, she received a ridiculous settlement offer for her client, so pathetic it must’ve definably be a delay tactic by prosecutors office, she denied it without consulting either Sasuke or the defendant, still she had to draft a counter proposal, which she had also postponed.
So, she decided to take a run before that, to get rid of the jitters that had her practically bouncing up and down. She put on her sneakers and took off as fast as she could, trying to leave her anxieties behind with every step. She continued until she felt breathless, and her lungs ached in the wake of that cold morning, she noticed was closer to the building where the firm was located than to her apartment, by that point she decided it made no sense to go back, if the documents she needed were only a few miles away.
She was covered in sweat by the time she reached the office building, her pink tresses sticking uncomfortably to her neck, she had really pushed herself this time, her legs felt unpleasantly numb, lungs practically burning, she wondered how unprofessional it would be if someone were to see her like that.
Ino had explained to her that the office was mostly empty during the weekends, with the exception of the whichever assistant was scheduled to keep watch. So, she pushed the thought of her disheveled appearance out of her mind, it’s still so early and I’ll definitely just be in and out in a flash, she thought.
The offices were open, but every light was off, and no one was at the front desk, since the clocks were barely hitting 6:30am she paid no mind to it. Turning all the lights on as she stepped in, she made a mental note to bring in some flowers and plants to brighten her office up a little, the minimalistic style was much too sterile for her liking.
She threw herself into her pending work, typing almost furiously a much more decent amount for the settlement of her proposal, being a doctor herself, she knew reputation was very important for a surgeon, so she factored in a public apology from the hospital board to Dr. Senju. She was in the zone, although having to wear business attire and heels every day instead of comfortable shoes and scrubs was annoying, she couldn’t deny the fact that negotiations made being an attorney almost as exciting as performing surgery.
Her flow was interrupted by the sudden appearance of red hair behind her laptop, one hand at her hip, the other one holding her expensive purse, Karin stood right in front of her desk, “What are YOU doing here?” she asked. The way she enunciated YOU brought only one word to Sakura’s head. Vicious.
“Sorry Uchiha-san” Sakura said. “I just had some work to do, I didn’t think anyone was in, I didn’t mean to scare you”
“You don’t scare me” Karin replied, although pleased at how Sakura addressed her by her husband’s last name, she couldn’t help when her insecurities towards the pinkette bubbled up inside of her.
It was Karin’s turn to man the office, and although she usually didn’t, she decided to show up that weekend. She woke up before Sasuke did, her actions keeping her up during the night. She couldn’t bear to look at him, knowing that without an actual reason, she had rat him out and without having anywhere else to go at that time, she showed up at the office on whim. She didn’t expect to see Sakura already at the office, typing away with self-satisfied smile on her face.
“Ah… that’s not what I meant…” Sakura said, a drop of sweat rolling down her forehead.
“Whatever just turn off the lights before you leave” Karin answered before she continued, rolling her eyes.
“Okay, no worries, say hi to Sasuke for me” Sakura told her.
That riled her up. That seemingly innocent comment hit her like a slap to the face, she knew what she was doing, Karin was sure. She was going to destroy everything she had work to build with Sasuke Did she even know what she was doing to her and her husband? She pursed her lips and turned to walked away in anger, the clacking of her heels loud in the empty space.
It occurred to Karin then, that she hadn’t had the opportunity to give Sakura the keys to the office. Of course, for security, the entrance to the practice was controlled by card access with their badges. But if the doors were to be locked from the outside… well.
She only hoped that would send Sakura the message, I know what you’re doing, stay away from my husband or I’ll make your life a living hell. She locked the front glass gate that stood between the lobby and the elevator, where the badge reader was located. Of course, she could still take the back stairs and get out of the building, but with it being a weekend the lights of the staircase would be off, lite only by the red glow of the emergency exit signs. The thought of a scared Pinkette, running down 20 flights of stairs in the dark amused her, reminiscent of the days she worked for Orochimaru. Terrifying people to do one’s bidding was a habit she never quite got rid of.
Sakura continued her work, trying to get the image of Karin practically storming off on her. Was it something I said? She wondered. Once she completed the official counteroffer, she emailed it to Sasuke, Naruto, and Dr. Senju, along with the original proposal, explaining in the body of the email, how insulting the offer was, and that she had, of course, rejected it a soon as it came her way, listing in detail why it was unacceptable in the first place. She only hoped, Sasuke and Naruto wouldn’t be upset at her taking the initiative, being a newly hired employee of the firm.
She then immersed herself into the documents that were required of her, as a newly hired attorney, thousands of pages of contracts, and confidentiality agreements, non-compete clauses that she had to read carefully and sign, and date, and initial, over and over again. Sakura continued up to the point that when raising her eyes, she saw lines of letters ingrained into her sight. The sunset disconcerted her, how many hours had she actually spent reading boring contracts if she arrived even before the sun had risen in the first place? This was supposed to be an in and out thing!
She saved her documents and shut down her computer, finally making her way home from her long and unexpected work hours. She dreaded the fact that she would have to walk back all the way to her apartment, deciding instead to call for a ride. She patted her body in search for her phone, freaking out for a millisecond before she remembered where it was, at home in the purse she failed to grab before going for a run. She sighed at her own forgetfulness, how she could memorize complete volumes of law and medical books but forget to do simple things like bringing her phone with her and locking doors was beyond her.
Turning off the lights, Sakura walked over to the elevator and tried to push open the glass panel doors that separated it from the lobby. It wouldn’t bulge. What’s going on?!
She walked over to the emergency exit to the stairs, resenting the additional physical activity on her already exhausted body. She tried to push the door open, and again it didn’t move. What the actual FUCK! Emergency exits should never be bloqued!! She thought. What am I going to do? Great day to forget you phone Sakura.
X
Sasuke woke up to a killer hangover, lips parched painfully, eyes refusing to adjust to the sunlight, his usual migraine amplified to the thousandth. He stood up from the living room couch where he had passed out the night before, his neck was sore from having slept in a weird position, as nice as the black leather couch was, an expensive purchase made by Karin, it didn’t actually made a comfortable seat, let alone makeshift bed.
He marched to the kitchen, dragging his bare feet on the cherrywood floors, and drank as much water as he could stomach to soothe his hangover thirst. The apartment seemed eerily quiet. Although the flat was large enough for both of them to do their respective activities without interrupting the other’s, he always managed to catch some kind of noise from his wife, be it the tv from her bedroom, or the inessive buzzing from her always incoming text messages and calls, still the apartment was completely silent, which meant she was not home.
Downing a couple aspirin for his headache and grabbing pajamas and fresh sheets from the linen closet, he went into his home office and laid down on the couch in there, much softer and comfortable than the living room’s, but still not a bed. He thought it was about time he purchased a bed for himself, given they almost never sleep in the same one, even less willing now that he found out about her bedroom activities. He always thought it disrespectful, buying a second bed when his wife expected him on the same room, but he figured it didn’t matter much now.
He looked up at the ceiling, trying and failing to close his eyes and go back to sleep. He remembered the night before with the kind of accuracy he could expect from how drunk he was. Still, a couple of things stood up, the soft touch of Sakura’s fingers coating his cheek with ointment, the shy look in her eyes as she very unexpectedly apologized, her so very beautiful laugh when he, much to his own sober embarrassment, requested her to call him ‘Sasuke-kun’.
She made him feel as if the last 10 years hadn’t happened, like no time had passed and they were just two teenagers together. The feeling of a thousand birds in his stomach, brought by thinking of her, prevented him from relaxing and going to sleep like he initially wanted.
So, he undressed again, putting on a pair of jeans and t-shirt and made plans for his day, go out and get something to eat, call his trainer and get some much needed time at the gym, and then if he had the energy for it, get some work done. He grabbed his training bag and headed out from the apartment. The sun at its highest point indicated that he had sleep past noon, despite of how tired he actually felt.
By the time he was done training, martial arts being the only thing that ever truly relaxed him, he sat in the parking smoking a cigarette, the clock marking already 7 pm, and for the first time in the day looked over at his phone. Lot’s text messages from Naruto, as he expected, mostly containing things like pictures from his baby boy doing something cute, an email from Sakura titled settlement offer and counteroffer and missed call from the office.
She must have some problem with the proposal and finally decided to get help… he thought. It wouldn’t hurt to go into the office now and catch up with the case.
He didn’t like to be out of the loop, especially considering how public this case already was. He drove to the building, expecting to find it dark and empty as it usually was during the weekends.
He nodded in greeting to the only security guard on site and made his way toward the firm. Walking out of the elevator and opening the locked glass gate, he noted how the only light on was coming from his own office, he didn’t give it much thought before he went over and encountered a sight, he was sure to never forget.
Sakura was on the floor of his office, dressed in tight leggings and a lose shirt that hung loosely around her chest and revealed her stomach and tiny sports bra. She was bent over, pink locks hanging above her head and reaching the floor, legs straight displaying her backside to him, in a position he vaguely recognized as a yoga pose.
He almost choked on his own saliva at the sight. He coughed to clear his throat, causing the pinkette to lose balance and drop to the floor startled.
“Sasuke-kun!! I’m so glad you’re here!” She yelled, jumping back to her feet and readjusting her shirt, before she practically threw herself at him, hugging him in excitement, to which he only froze. He could feel the heat spreading to the back of his neck, needless to mention the heat in other areas at the contact.
“Sa.. sa… Sakura, what are you doing…” He stuttered, unable to gather his thoughts.
“Sorry, I took a nap and your office is the only one that has a couch, but it was so uncomfortable, I was just stretching now” She answered taking a step back in embarrassment at her own reaction. She was just so relieved to be saved from actually spending the night in.
Still unclear with that explanation, he asked, “But why are you here?”
“Am… I came over to do some work, but I was locked in… I couldn’t leave… The emergency exit is locked too! Such a hazard by the way!” She offered in return.
“The front door doesn’t lock from the inside” He asked in confusion, someone else had to lock the door from the outside for her to become trapped in.
“Yeah… Karin was here, she must have locked the door by mistake” Sakura explained, since it had happened to her a couple of times, locking doors by mistake when your head is somewhere else, was something that happened to Sakura all too often, especially on her car. Even so, she couldn’t shake the feeling she had pissed off Karin for some reason, maybe Sasuke told her about how she punched him right in the face a couple of days ago, maybe she was annoyed because she was expecting an apology too.
Sasuke only sighed in response. He pinched the bridged of his nose in annoyance. Why his wife felt the need the need to do things like this he never knew.
“And you’re okay?” He asked, bringing the subject back to the matter at hand. “Why didn’t you call anyone?”
“I did! I called the security office, no one answered, it’s terrible by the way if this were a real emergency, someone could’ve gotten hurt, lawsuit waiting to happen!” She responded, causing a confused look from Sasuke. “I called anyone whose phone I have memorized, but no answers, and I forgot my phone at home too”
Sasuke pulled out his phone, remembering the missed call he had from the office earlier. “You called me too?” He asked her.
“Yeah… I didn’t actually have your cellphone so….” She said, and Sasuke noticed how her face went blue all of the sudden, sweat dropping off her forehead. “I found your card in one of your drawers” Sakura told him, pointing at his desk.
“You went through my desk?” Sasuke asked her, a small smile playing on his face that betrayed the annoyed tone he was trying to portray. She must have not noticed thought, since her cheeks blushed scarlet red as she fiddled with her thumbs and started to explain.
“Yes… Sorry I was desperate! I didn’t know what else to do! It was the only thing I saw I promise!”
Sasuke was amused at her embarrassment, he couldn’t look at her with a straight face as she was muttering excuses about how his business card was the first thing she saw when opening the desk drawer, and how she didn’t look into anyone else’s. It made him glad, since while it would’ve made much more sense to look into Yamanaka’s desk for phone numbers, she only thought of him when she needed help, but he didn’t voice those thoughts, instead he asked, “How long have you been here?”
“Since 6am… I didn’t actually notice I was locked in until a few of hours ago thought, I was reading over some materials and got distracted”
It was so like Sakura to get engrossed in reading and forget about everything else. He couldn’t remember how many times she was late to see him back in the day, because she forgot to get ready while reading some romantic novel she was so engaged in.
“Let’s go then” He said, noticing how late it was.
“Yeah, yup, sure” She stuttered, walking out by his side, staying quiet to avoid embarrassing herself again. She always did say too much when she was with him. His presence completely intimidating as always.
Walking out to the parking lot, he looked around trying to find Sakura’s car among the few left in the building. “How did you get here?” He asked her, already informed that she didn’t bring her phone to call herself a ride.
“Am… I ran” She explained. “I was trying to get some exercise this morning, and I was closer here than to my apartment so…”
“You’ve had quite day” He said, trying to sound as uninterested as he could manage.
“Yeah, no, it wasn’t so bad… I wasn’t” Sakura began, but was interrupted by the loud growling of her empty stomach.
Sasuke chuckled quietly at the sound. “You haven’t eaten” He said, again a statement not a question. He pulled her by the arm, taking her hostage to his car. “Let’s go get you something to eat” He insisted when his pull met resistance.
“I’m fine! I had like 8 cups of coffee” She said.
“Sakura, you’re a doctor, you know skipping meals isn’t healthy” He reprimanded, speaking as if to a small child.
Sakura pouted her lips, she didn’t like to be talked down to. Still she relented, walking over to the passenger side of Sasuke’s car, before that last sentence really resonated in her head. “How did you know that?”
“Know what?” Sasuke asked, already getting inside of his car.
She got inside too, and continued in return, “That… I’m a doctor?”
“Oh… Naruto told me” He mentioned awkwardly. He didn’t want to tell her that most of his conversations with Naruto, and late-night internet searches of late involved only a certain aggressive Pinkette. “When you got hired, for background proposes”
And that was the end of that conversation, with Sakura strangely engrossed in her thoughts while Sasuke mostly basked in the comfortable silent they fell in.
He took her to a fancy restaurant in the middle of downtown, with people mostly dressed in expensive looking dresses and suits. She felt terribly underdressed, with her leggings and lose shirt, that had not too long ago been drenched in sweat. She looked over at Sasuke, who just stood waiting for the maître d to get them to their seats, he was dressed casually in a white v neck shirt and jeans, but he looked stunning, like he someone you would see in the cover of some magazine.
The maître d and waitress definitely noticed, eyeing him down every chance they got, hearts practically shinning in their eyes, as they were handed the menu, which Sasuke took from her hands and returned it to the waitress without letting her look.
“The house steak and cherry tomato salad for the both of us, then the anmitsu for her” He told the waitress without ever looking at her.
“Yes sir” The waitress said, but not before over at Sakura with disgust on her face. Definitely wondering what I’m doing in the presence of someone as handsome as he. Sakura thought.
“Don’t you think I might have wanted to order something different?” She told Sasuke in reproach.
“Do you not like what I ordered…?” He asked, his face completely bank of emotion. He specifically remembered anmitsu being her favorite food, if you could call a bunch of sugar actual food.
“That’s not what I said… just why are you so… bossy?”
“Do you not like it that I’m bossy?” He asked in teasing, flashing her a dashing smirk that made her skin feel tingle. “Besides, aren’t you the one who’s always calling me Boss?”
“Well yeah…” She said, confused by Sasuke’s actions. One day he is amicable but professional, the next day he’s all angry and quiet, frankly an asshole, calling her names and accusing her of sleeping with Naruto, and then seems concerned about her, taking her out to eat and teasing her, some may even call it flirty.
“Have you been diagnosed with bipolar disorder?” Sakura asked suddenly, amazed at her own boldness.
“You’re really annoying you know that?” He told her, “And rude, why would you even ask that”
“Well… because I’m a doctor, and your displaying symptoms commonly associated with multiple personalities” She explained, admittedly she was rude in asking, still his changes in mood definitely gave her whiplash.
“No” Sasuke answered seriously, then stop as the waitress brought down their meal, and asked in a much too friendly manner if there was anything else she could bring him, which he turned down without a pause.
“Eat” He ordered.
“Thanks…” She muttered taking a bite of a small piece of meat, before she glanced over at Sasuke starting with his salad.
“Here, let me” She took his plate from in front of him, and started to cut down the steak for him. She didn’t even know why he’d order something he would have a hard time eating without even asking the waitress to bring it already cut.
“I can do that on my own” He protested but made no move to take the plate back from her.
“I know” She answered non chillingly. “But I want to help”
“Hn” was the only sound he made in return as she handed his plate back.
“So… how did you lose it?” Sakura asked quietly, busying her hands with her salad.
“Lose what?” Sasuke asked, expecting some snarky comment like ‘your mind’, he was well aware of how he’d treated her on the last few days.
“Your arm… I’m sorry, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, I was just curious” She said, waving her hand dismissively, noticing the change in Sasuke’s expression.
He took a moment to consider if he wanted her know the whole story about his arm. Deciding instead to spear her the gory details of his tainted past, he said, “Motorcycle accident, 8 years ago”
Sakura figured that’s all he wanted to say in the matter, so she didn’t press. They continued eating in silence until they finished their dinner, with Sasuke observing Sakura attentively while she made pleasing faces and sounds at the taste of her desert.
Sasuke requested the check, which was promptly brought by the heart-eyed waitress. Sakura look at him with a smile on her face, sugar did put her in a much better mood, he noticed, and extended her hand to take the bill, Sasuke handed it without saying anything but still handed the waitress his credit card.
Sakura only shook her head in disapproval, she opened the check, mentally noting how much she owed for her meal, fully intending to pay Sasuke back for it, when she noted the phone number written down by the waitress. Bold she thought, took the piece of paper and placed in her pocket.
They both got back in the Sasuke’s car and drove away to Sakura’s place.
“You didn’t have to do that you know” She said, trying to look at the road instead of looking at his handsome face.
“It’s nothing” He muttered.
“You didn’t even look at the bill… even after the waitress put so much thought in it” Sakura said in between giggles and placing the check in his hand.
“What?” Sasuke asked in confusion, parking in front of Sakura’s building, taking the paper she was offering and looking at the loopy handwritten phone number. “Bold” He commented.
“Hahaha that’s what I thought too… You’re as popular as always” Sakura said, hand in her face trying to cover her giggles.
“I guess you would know” He told her, sporting his trademark smirk.
“You’re right, maybe I should go back there and give her the link to your fan girl website, wouldn’t want to leave her without the pleasure of your godly image”
He chuckled at her joke, Sasuke’s laughs where rare and infrequent even when he was younger, and they never failed in giving Sakura goosebumps and butterflies in her stomach.
“I really like your laugh” She confessed. “It always does things to my stomach, maybe that’s why I’ve never been able to forget about you”
He instinctively reached out for her arm, pulling her in and clashing his lips against hers. Sakura was stunned for a second before she returned his kiss, pressing gently against his lower lip, her mouth slightly open.
He took advantage to the parting of her lips to begin to kiss her more assertively, his tongue fighting hers for dominance. She reached to grab a handful of inky locks at the nape of Sasuke’s neck and pulled, her kiss almost as aggressive as his.
It was as if he awoke a hunger that she didn’t know still existed inside of her. She needed to get closer, closer until there was no more space between them. She bit his lower lip playfully, to which Sasuke responded only with a predatory growl.
He moved down to the crook of her neck, kissing and biting the tender skin, leaving his mark on her, encouraged by the pleasured gasps that escaped her lips.
“Sakura…” He whispered in her ear before leaving another love bite under it.
That brought her back to reality. She pushed him as hard as she could after she reprimanded with a strong “NO” and got down from the car, slamming the door loudly and running away to the protection of her apartment.

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (i haven’t actually thought too much about these so i’m going with my gut here but dicey and i were talking tonight about the generational difference between naruto and jiraiya when it comes to loyalty. jiraiya grew up in a time of war and is a solider, he was trained to be loyal to the village. if it came down to it, he’d kill even tsunade if she betrayed the village. naruto is loyal to people. if sakura betrayed the village, he would never give up on her, just like he never gave up on sasuke. naruto wants to protect the village because the village is where the people he loves live. naruto’s entire narrative arc is about bonds so i’m pretty sure he’s a hufflepuff) best quality: god i just wrote a fucking essay above about it- his loyalty and bonds to other people. everyone he meets is now his friend whether they like it or not ! he was just such a lonely kid, desperate for attention, for love, for acknowledgement, anything at all. and it would’ve been so easy for him to sit in that, to let himself hate the village, to resent them- but he didn’t. he set out to prove them wrong and he did. he is so, so, so fucking good. worst quality: HIS TASTE IN MEN. okay like, on the real, it’s not his fault and boruto isn’t real but it’s such UTTER BULLSHIT that the entire fucking series he met these people who got fucked over by the village status quo and he promised them he was going to change it when he became hokage and he fucking didn’t. its BULLSHIT. it’s not his fault, that’s not him, but GOD i’m MAD. ship them with: SAKURA, sasuke, gaara, shikamaru, sai, kiba, hinata. brotp them with: SAKURA- in fact all of the above list. he has great dynamics with them. also, kakashi, iruka, jiraiya, tsunade, choji, i like to imagine his and ino’s dynamic as fucking hilarious when they’re older. oh and i want him and karin to be annoying cousins together like PLEASE i DESERVE THIS. needs to stay away from: STOP SHIPPING HIM WITH KAKASHI!!!!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!! GO TO JAIL!!!!!!!!! misc. thoughts: that’s my fucking BABY i’ve shed SO MANY TEARS over this blonde idiot. he’s so good.
sakura
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (again, havent thought about it before now, but my gut SCREAMs gryffindor. she’s so...punchy, and head strong, and hard working. just like. all the gryffindor traits!) best quality: sakura’s character development lives rent free in my head. like. okay. sakura always had potential. she ranked high in her classes, she had better chakra control than naruto or sasuke, mastered things quicker than them, was observant and book smart. but physically and emotionally, she was weak! she could not hold her own in battle the way naruto or sasuke could, and often her fear got in the way, if not straight up controlled her. when naruto and sasuke fought, she could do nothing but beg them to stop. when sasuke left the village, he easily knocked her out. and sakura knew she was the weak link of team 7. so she resolved to get stronger. she sought out tsunade and trained with her for four years. and like, tsunade is an insane person. sakura would break her bones and tsunade would have her keep training and just heal them later. she mastered healing. she mastered chakra control. she developed fucking superhuman strength. she refused to be the weak link anymore, to just sit back helplessly while naruto and sasuke fought. she’s from a civilian family, she has NOTHING in terms of innate ninja abilities like literally everyone else in her class, but she became the strongest female ninja of her generation and surpassed her legendary sannin mentor through sheer hard work and determination. FUCK. she’s so cool. worst quality: again, this is NOT HER FAULT, it’s bad sexist writing, but sakura is such a fun and obnoxious character who matches naruto beat for beat, but when sasuke comes around she’s a shell of herself. even when she’s MARRIED TO HIM she doesn’t act like herself. she’s reverted back to that inflatuated 12 year old she’s long outgrown! bro, WHAT! ship them with: NARUTO AND INO. and. ok. listen. i’ve become soft for sasuke/sakura’s potential. if sakura got to be herself with sasuke, they’d be, at the very least, FUN. and sasuke/naruto/sakura is so fun. also rock lee is so sweet, i would not have been mad if they’d been endgame. brotp them with: NARUTO AND INO. kakashi, tsunade, hinata, rock lee. needs to stay away from: STOP!!! SHIPPING!!! KAKASHI!!! WITH!!! HIS!!! STUDENTS!!!!!!! misc. thoughts: i knew i would love sakura. look at her. she has pink hair and she punches things. 10/10. but she quickly, quickly became not just my favorite naruto character, but one of my favorite characters in all of shounen anime. the ball was dropped with her, multiple times, but she’s still such a dynamic fucking character with the best character development.
sasuke
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life | there aren’t words to describe how i feel about him hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (sasuke is...hard. i think the argument for gryffindor could also be made, but i’m leaning towards slytherin) best quality: i’m so tired. the thing about sasuke is....he deserved so much better than he got. i can’t tell you what his best quality is because his entire character arc is him being self destructive. he’s not fucking well!!!! the good parts of him he either tries to snuff out, or the story glosses over them to show how far he’s fallen. I think, the one good quality that refused to die, is his protectiveness. Him protecting Naruto in the Zabuza arc was such a pivotal moment for him, for his and Naruto’s relationship, for Team 7, for the story. It was the moment where everything changed. He was so desperate to protect Naruto from Itachi, he was super protective of Sakura in the forest of death, and even in Shippuden, he’s protective of team Taka, and unfortunately the moment I finally broke and said fuck it, I love Sasuke, is when he protected Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi from the infinite tsukiyomi. worst quality: his extremism lmao like. god. again, dicey and i have talked about this, how characters who challenge the status quo are portrayed as ~crazy~ and extremists so yet again, its BAD WRITING but also PROPAGANDA! god. but like, i’m sorry, fuck the village but he wanted to go after people who were not involved in what happened to Itachi. I understand his anger, but I wish the narrative had treated it and him with respect rather than throwing a fucking dart at a board to decide what Sasuke’s character arc was going to be about this week! ship them with: naruto, suigetsu, juugo, and again, lowkey sakura. brotp them with: naruto, sakura, kakashi, team taka, itachi needs to stay away from: STOP SHIPPING HIM WITH HIS TEACHER AND BROTHER. YALL. misc. thoughts: i’m so fucking tired. what was kishimoto trying to do with him! i don’t understand! sasuke was right! he was fully right to hate the village, to demand change. why did kishimoto have the village repeatedly doing heinous, evil things, validating sasuke’s resentment, but sasuke was portrayed as being in the wrong. ALSO, the ENTIRE. FUCKING. POINT. of naruto is bonds, and how important friendship and love is, and sasuke’s entire GODDAMN NARRATIVE is about him breaking those bonds to become stronger, and destroying himself in the process, and everyone he loves telling him this isn’t the right path, and FINALLY he accepts it- and then in boruto he’s JUST. ALONE? HE HASNT MET HIS DAUGHTER IN 12 YEARS WHEN FAMILY WAS SO IMPORTANT TO HIM???? I HATE IT. I HATE IT. THIS IS SO BAD. SASUKE DESERVED BETTER.
kakashi
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (i want to say ravenclaw and make team 7 representation of all the houses but that man is a gryffindor through and through) best quality: honestly kakashi is a lot of good things but he’s not a character i look at and go “oh i love him because he’s _____. i love him because he’s a character who has suffered so, so much, who has depression and ptsd and truthfully he just wants to fucking die so fucking bad to the point obito has to tell him “fucking no, stay and live”, but he never gives up. he might be 3 hours late because he couldn’t find the strength to get out of bed, but he still got out of bed eventually and showed up. so, actually, i guess that’s his best quality. he keeps going. worst quality: so like. how did he end up a teacher. i’m just wondering. LISTEN, HE LOVES HIS KIDS SO MUCH. but he is NOT well suited to teaching, he does not fucking like kids, sasuke and naruto are TRAUMATIZED and he’s just like “hm. when’s the new book of icha icha paradise coming out?” BROOOOOOOOOOOOOO ship them with: GAI IS HIS LEGAL HUSBAND AND SOULMATE. obito is his ex-boyfriend who he’ll always love an idolized version of. brotp them with: naruto, sakura, sasuke, yamato, rin, asuma, kurenai. needs to stay away from: [screeching] STOP! SHIPPING! HIM! WITH! CHILDREN! YOU’RE! GOING! TO! JAIL! also i fucking hate kakashi/iruka THEY NEVER TALK?????????? WHY IS IT SO POPULAR?????? misc. thoughts: it’s fucking unfortunate how much he got to me. i knew i wouldn’t dislike him but he ended up being one of my favorite characters and i’m so mad. my reputation of hating fan favorites is on the line here!

——–
The only time that Sasuke Uchiha had felt incredibly nervous was back when his father was mentoring him on how to use Katon. Though many years had passed, he could still vividly remember that heart-pounding, stomach-twisting sensation of not knowing if he’d be able to produce an impressive result as his father’s eyes were fixated on him.
And now, he could feel the same thing with what he was planning to do.
Although they didn’t really have the best father-son relationship, he knew that if Fugaku Uchiha was still alive, he’s the best person who could give him the most logical advice that he needed at the moment, considering that they were, in many ways, similar in terms of their personality.
That’s why absurdly, he wished his father was here to tell him how to execute his plan in a step-by-step manner like how he passed on to him the Great Fireball Technique.
Sasuke wasn't the kind of person who finds asking questions necessary, a manifestation of the superiority that tended to be his facade even in his most vulnerable state. But if only he could, there were lots of questions that he would like to ask his Otou-san.
How exactly did father ask mother to marry him?
Did he feel as insanely apprehensive as I am right now?
Did mother actually say yes on father’s first attempt to ask?
How many chances does a man have anyway, just in case...just in case the woman says no?
These, and probably a lot more.
With thoughts all over the place, Sasuke fidgeted on the couch as he watched Sakura make funny faces at the giggling Suika on the floor of the Hozuki’s living room.
She’s still so annoying, he couldn’t help but think. Doesn’t she have the slightest idea about how much he was falling in love with her all the more each day?
Observing Sakura with Suika has been one of his favorite past times ever since the redhead baby was born. It just showed him much of the pureness of her heart towards people, children in particular. And it only solidified his resolve that he has made the right decision – probably the best in his life so far – about spending the rest of his life with his female teammate in his genin squad.
He planned to ask her that special question today, when the opportunity arises. His brain has been trying its best to figure out how to do so ever since he came out of the hospital weeks ago. But being Sasuke Uchiha, there was no grand preparation and sappy romantic gestures despite the ridiculous suggestions of his best friend and the disgusting persuasion of his sensei for him to read his favorite book. All he knew was it was completely fixed in his mind that this woman was the one he wanted to marry.
And today was the day that he’s gonna make Sakura Haruno say yes to being an Uchiha.
So while they were waiting for the Hozuki couple to finish packing their belongings, he was on the alert for any open chance to bring up his question in the same way he has his guard up whenever a possible enemy is lingering around.
“Is something bothering you, Sasuke-kun?”
Tch. Why does she have to know him so well?
He tersely shook his head, eyes on Suika who was curiously staring at him with her tiny hand in her mouth.
“You know I’m always here to listen when you’re ready.” Sakura showed that breathtaking smile of hers that seemed to be reserved just for him. TCH!
“Oh, you want to go to Uncle Sasuke? Okay! Okay! Stop bouncing!” She then giggled to the kid, leaned to carry her, and then placed her on Sasuke’s lap.
Suika stretched an arm out to reach for his face, and for a moment, it was effective in drawing his gaze away from Sakura. But the head medic moved closer to wipe the side of Suika's mouth with a bib as the baby babbled incoherent words.
For a second, Sasuke's mind went blank, bringing him to a different timeline wherein quite the same scene was happening as if he was in a genjutsu. It was breathtaking. His heart constricted with longing for the surreal image to become a reality, despite it being far-fetched.
Years ago, he never imagined that he would have the chance of having a family of his own. And yes, even up to now, the idea was still something that his mind wrestled to accept as something that he deserved.
But then, his eyes met Sakura’s once more. And just like all the other times that he has met her gaze, something inside him changed and made him feel like it's just so easy to drop all his hesitations because of her – for her.
“Sakura...I–”
“Wow! I can’t believe it’s our last day.”
Their heads suddenly whipped towards the bedroom door as their redhead friend exited, followed by her husband who had just finished sealing their baggage in a scroll.
Half irked yet half relieved with the interruption, Sasuke sighed as he handed the baby to her frowning mother. It was a good thing that Sakura didn't realize he was about to tell her something important.
Maybe later, then.
Suigetsu shrugged. "Some things really come to an end, Karin."
“That’s sadly true,” Sakura joined in the conversation, approaching the Hozuki matriarch to pass on the baby's bib. “But the good thing is that every time a season ends, a new one is about to begin.” She smiled at the woman who has become one of her closest friends.
It was saddening to see their family leave, but she’s just so excited for them to finally reside in a place they could truly call their home. Besides, they deserved it after everything they've been through individually and as a family.
“It’s time to go.” Everyone turned to the Uchiha who was already standing by the door.
So with a toothy grin, Suigetsu placed an arm around his wife’s shoulders before saying, “Let’s go, Karin. I’m excited for you and Suika to see Hidden Mist.”
The walk towards the gates of Konoha seemed like a trip down memory lane. So when they finally reached that familiar arc that welcomes and sends off Konoha's villagers and visitors, Karin wasn't able to stop herself from handing over Suika to her husband and then throwing her arms as tight as she could around Sasuke.
"Karin. How many times should I tell you to get off me, especially because you're a married woman?"
The redhead chuckled at that, amused with how detached he still was – well, except for a certain pink-haired maiden. "My husband wouldn't mind though!"
Sasuke rolled his eyes but found himself glancing at the other woman with them, wondering if she would mind about the situation. However, he only caught her laughing cutely at the ordeal. He couldn't bring himself to scoff.
Pulling away for the Uchiha to be comfortable, Karin sheepishly said, "Thank you so much for everything, Sasuke. I'm so glad that you've found redemption for yourself. No doubt, you'll be able to help more people inside and outside this village. Like us. I will never forget this."
Karin realized that staying in Konoha was the happiest moment of her life so far. And she knew that despite her initial doubts about the idea, everything wouldn’t happen if her husband didn’t force her to join Sasuke in going to this place for her and their baby's safety. Yet she never expected that the decision would be life-changing for all of them.
Suigetsu agreed with a nod. “Sasuke, you've done so much for us. I owe my family’s life to you. I honestly can't thank you enough."
The former leader of Team Taka was stunned at the way his teammates expressed their gratitude to him. He never even thought that there's anything anyone should thank him for. If anything, it was them that he should've thanked for they've shown him a glimpse of what a transformed life and an assured future look like. But as usual, he was not exactly good with words.
Remembering how they've witnessed the majority of his worst years yet they're still here to stand by him, Sasuke's eyes softened as he gave the couple a simple yet meaningful nod in response.
The pink-haired maiden beside him was smiling the entire time. Sakura didn't know all the details of Sasuke's journey with Taka, but to see him developing such strong bonds even outside of Team 7 was something that she considered a breakthrough. It gave her joy knowing that this scenario was an assurance to Sasuke that he won't ever be alone anymore.
"Before I forget, please bring these pills that would help in keeping you from the cold during your travels," Sakura then handed a small pouch to Karin. "This is helpful especially for Suika since this would be her first exposure to such cold weather."
If Karin was able to stop her tears from falling while talking to Sasuke, she wasn't able to contain it anymore while staring at the pouch given by Sakura. This woman has done so much in bringing out the best in her without her knowing. And so, she also enveloped her in an embrace that's so rare for Karin to give, well, except when it's for her husband and Sasuke.
“Sakura, you’ve saved my life not just once. And then you've shown me the kind of life I never imagined I could still have. Thank you for trusting me and for believing in my potential.” Karin sniffed while Sakura gave her a pat on the back, unable to stop a tear from falling as well. And then the redhead pulled away, instantly wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand with a big smile at her senpai. "I'm not usually like this but—ugh! It's because of the two of you!"
At her loud remark, Sasuke raised an eyebrow while Sakura ended up cackling with a hand on her stomach.
"Whew. At least it's not me this time." Suigetsu snickered too, rocking the baby in his arms that was awakened by the voice of her mother.
Karin almost landed a punch to her husband's liquefiable head, but thanks to Suika's sleepy murmur, she opted to avoid violence to carry the baby again. "Ssh. I'm sorry, kid. Mama's a little different today because of your godmother and godfather." She stuck a tongue out at the two and Sasuke could only snort as Sakura continued to laugh.
"Ha. Sorry, Karin could be crazy at times, or…" The Hozuki patriarch paused and pretended to contemplate. "...actually, most of the time."
"Hey! You're lucky I'm holding your daughter!"
"Kidding, guys. I love that woman nonetheless."
Sakura and Sasuke didn't fail to see the tinge of maroon on the redhead's cheeks before she turned around to hide it. Uncomfortable with such things, the Uchiha scoffed at the sight of his old teammates. But then, he slightly jerked as something hit his side almost close to his ribs.
When he shot a sharp glance at the woman beside him, Sakura was just smiling innocently at the Hozuki's. Yet this doctor might need to heal something later, courtesy of her pointed elbow.
Suigetsu noticed the interchange and smirked a little, having high hopes that one day, these two would finally end up like him and his wife. He then grinned. "But really, the two of you have made a difference in our lives. We'll surely remember this and even tell Suika one day. Sasuke, you better visit us in one of Orochimaru's hideouts. And then bring Sakura-san with you."
"As if I'd want to go back there."
Scrunching her nose, Sakura shivered at the prospect of being in the aforementioned place.
Karin wasn't able to stifle her guffaw as she faced her friends again. "But we don't know, Sasuke, what if you'd eventually need to visit? And that would be nice! I want Suika to meet you both one day!"
"Tch. You'd really want your daughter to grow up in that dumpsite?"
"Oi! You kind of grew up there too!" Suigetsu teased.
Staring blankly, Sasuke fought the urge to burn the couple with his powerful eyes for the sake of their daughter. And then he said, "You better leave now. It's almost dusk."
"Fine then, yes, sir!"
"Take care of your family, Suigetsu."
"Always. And you, take care of Sakura-san!" There was a smirk on Suigetsu's lips as Sasuke remained silent at that. But he knew full well, Sasuke would cross time and dimensions and even give his life just to protect Sakura. This time, his strength would be used not for his own selfish agenda, but for the sake of the people he cared for. Just like what he did for Suigetsu and his family.
"Oh. This is real now, isn't it?"
Sakura reached out and gave Karin's hand a squeeze, looking down on Suika who was now awake after all the commotion with her parents and godparents. A giggle escaped her tiny lips upon seeing Sakura, making Sakura frown a bit as her green eyes met the baby's purple ones. "Yes, it's real now, Karin. But this ain't goodbye. See you soon." She smiled one last time before moving aside, waving a small goodbye as the Hozuki's finally exited the village hidden in the leaves.
Sasuke and Sakura silently remained on their posts as the two figures became smaller from afar.
Until Sakura murmured, "They're such a beautiful family, aren’t they?" Slowly, Sasuke tilted his head to gaze at her. And at that very moment, everything felt right. He took in her beauty as the setting sun made her face glow and the breathing wind made her cherry blossom hair sway in slow motion. It reminded him of those times in his redemption journey that he marvelled at the sight of Cherry Blossom trees because it made him feel like she was beside him, albeit far away.
Now that it became real, he thought of how wonderful it would be to have more peaceful moments like this with her. So as they stood in the place where he first broke her heart, he finally chose to drop all hesitations so he could do what he wanted to accomplish before the day ends, with high hopes that he could also give Sakura a new memory with him in this place.
"Sakura. Do you...want to have something like that?" The Hozuki's were already out of sight but his first female teammate continued to stare at a distance. "A future family?" She smiled, clutching her hands to her chest as she thought of the only man she'd want to spend the rest of her life with. And then she said in a soft voice, “I've...I've always wanted to." "I want to have that too...with you."
With wide eyes, Sakura turned to Sasuke who was now looking at the path his friends walked on. There was no trace of humor on his face, only an expression that showed solace and expectancy. “S-sas—”
"But Sakura...it is clear as day that you deserve the best. And that’s...that’s not me." Sasuke’s gaze fell to the ground. "I'm not even exactly a good man, so I'm far from being the best for you. There were so many things that I've done that destroyed and hurt so many people, including you and the ones that you care for. So even though I'd...I'd really want a future with you, I don't think you deserve someone whose past is as wicked as mine."
"Sasuke-kun, all those is exactly what you've said – a part of the past. My love for you is not based on what you've done or what you would do. It's simply based on you, Sasuke-kun. Just you. Anything else doesn't matter, as long as...as long as I know that you deeply love me." She paused. "Do you love me?" There was a momentary pause as he looked up at her dazzling eyes. But it wasn’t because he was doubting his answer, for Sasuke has always been sure.
For a second, he wanted to chuckle at the irony that Sakura Haruno could read words and situations, analyze lab tests and battle strategies, but she couldn’t read and analyze the feelings that Sasuke Uchiha has for her.
It was not her fault that he hadn’t made himself crystal clear yet though.
So he thought of the best way to vividly convey his answer to her question and firmly address her uncertainties about her standing in his life all this time.
He then settled in responding through the best and significant way he knows. Smiling a little, he gently tapped her forehead right below the diamond-shaped mark of her strength before saying, "You should know that by now.”
Just like the first time Sasuke did this, Sakura's eyes widened and her lips parted a little as her cheeks became painted with pink. The only difference now was that she stared back at him with recognition, eyes brimming with tears of none other than joy. To know that her love was reciprocated for such a long time already made her feel elated more than ever.
For so many times, she has almost given up in waiting. But it was true all along, being loved back by the man she has always loved was worth the long wait. She regrets nothing for even after everything, it all came down to this. Sasuke looked away as he remembered something. "That time you've been avoiding me because of Karin...it made me realize that I couldn’t stand a life without you." He muttered something like "Never again" and then faced her with his mismatched eyes focusing intently – lovingly – on her green ones. "If you’re willing to make things work together with me...Sakura, marry me." Sakura's tears finally fell upon hearing those last words that she thought she would never hear from this man. She didn't even have to contemplate on what she would answer for she immediately said, "I could never imagine loving and marrying anyone else, Sasuke-kun."
And then she tapped his forehead in the same way he did with her, making Sasuke's eyes widen and his heart flutter in a way that he never felt before. His lips curved into a smile as he pulled her into a long embrace that surprised even him. But as Sakura melted in his arms as if she had always belonged there, he felt completely relieved that he got the answer he had prayed to receive from her. Maybe this was what Suigetsu had felt when Karin agreed to spend the rest of her life with him as well, he thought.
The satisfied smile on Sakura’s lips after they pulled away made Sasuke’s heart skip a beat. It still felt like he was dreaming, the fact that he was staring at his wife-to-be. “Let’s go home.”
“Yours or mine?”
Sasuke slowly grabbed her hand, after all, he has every right to do so now. “Ours. From now on, you have to be comfortable around the Uchiha compound. I’ll just walk you back to your place tonight.”
As the two of them walked hand in hand back to the village, two pairs of eyes continued to watch them from the nearby trees.
“Heh, Kakashi-sensei, this is a lot better than the last time the three of us were here with Karin, ‘ttebayo!”

Everything CH5 AU SasukexOC
He didn't have to wait long. Mai's room was just next door, the walls incredibly thin. Stepping out of the shower, he could hear Sai's voice through the wall, hear every word he said clearly.
"What did you expect? You changed your number again."
"Yeah. Why didn't you take then hint?" Mai smoothly responded.
After a brief pause there was a soft thud on the adjoining wall. Sasuke took a deep breath and waited for the slightest indication that she was in trouble.
"Don't touch me, Sai." Mai spoke calmly but her heart was racing. He had backed her up against the wall, there wasn't an inch between them.
She had done everything she could think of to shake him off, ignored him, changed her number, she'd even gone so far as to sit down with the guy and nicely explain why they couldn't be together but it never worked. He just couldn't let go. She slapped away his hand when his fingers moved to caress her cheek. In the year he and Ino had been together she hadn't allowed a thing to happen between them. She wasn't that type of friend. She quickly grabbed the towel that was slipping from her naked body, slapping him had jerked it loose.
Sai's eyes became heavy with arousal, it had been so long since he had seen her naked. Someone else had the privilege now.
"He doesn't know your body like I do. He doesn't make you scream or leave you begging for more like you did with me."
Images of the way she and Sai used to make love flashed into her mind, the intensity, the limits they pushed. She had to admit, it was good and even though her current boyfriend was an amazing lover he certainly wasn't as attentive to her needs as Sai had been. Her silence was all he needed to brush his lips over hers. Overcome by thoughts of them together, she had a moment of weakness and didn't move away.
"Do you miss my touch?" He whispered against her lips, sliding his hand over the curve of her hips.
Her eyes fluttered closed.
"Do you want it now?" He breathed, his voice heavy with desire. His fingers followed the route he was all too familiar with, he had lost count how many times he had fantasised about sliding his hand up her inner thigh and letting his fingers feel how wet she was for him.
Her eyes flashed open and she suddenly punched him in the stomach. He stumbled backwards, holding his abdomen and laughing.
"If I tell him about this, he'll kill you." She said, frowning. Resorting to that threat was the only thing she could think of to keep some distance between them.
"Probably." He shrugged, heading towards the window. "But I don't think you'd do that to me."
Her room was on the ground floor, the drop barely a foot. He jumped through the open window and made his way around the building. Mai closed it firmly behind him, catching sight of her own reflection in the glass. She hadn't even realised she had been smiling. Sai's advances were annoying but there was still a thrill in having a man desperately craving her affection, if they were both single she might have let him have his way if he worked hard enough for it.
In his mind, Sasuke was trying to piece together everything he had overheard. The only things he knew for sure were that Sai clearly wasn't over Mai and that she had a boyfriend. Her comment about Sai's life being at risk by hitting on her didn't sound like a joke, it made him wonder who she had gotten involved with.
He left his room and paused outside of hers, wondering if he should check if she was okay. After confronting one unwanted man in her bedroom already he decided against it. Just as he passed by she yanked open the door, nearly making him jump.
"Oh. Hey." She greeted him warmly.
"Hey. You ready?"
He felt relief wash over him, she looked fine, the sparkle in her eyes was still there. Either she was extremely resilient or she was just used to guys becoming obsessed with her. Probably the latter, he decided. She was an easy girl to fall for.
The entire group hit the beach. The guys left it to the girls to find a good spot on the sand, then they set up some parasols and lay out the beach towels. Ino, Sai, Sasuke, Sakura and Mai stayed on the the sand while the others made a dash for the ocean. Mai found herself between Sasuke and Sai, their respective partners in their opposite sides. If she was bothered to think about it, she might have found the situation a little awkward but it was too hot for that. With only a bikini covering her modesty she felt sure the boys would be sweating more than her anyway.
"What do you think of this one?" Sakura asked her husband again, showing her husband yet another almost identical selfie.
"Looks good." He sighed, accidentally missing the enthusiasm out of his reply this time.
"You don't like it?" She gasped, taking offence from his lack of interest.
"Let me see!" Ino shrieked, suddenly clambering over her boyfriend and Mai to grab Sakura's phone.
Sasuke breathed a sigh of relief, he wasn't sure how he was going to get out of that one for a moment.
"Your hair looks messy, that's why. Let me take one." Ino began snapping away, something that began to get on Sai's nerves as well as Sasuke's.
"I'm going to get us all some drinks." Sai carefully placed his sketch pad on his towel and got to his feet.
He had barely taken a step when someone he didn't recognise at first came stampeding over towards them. Mai half opened her eyes, checking what the commotion was. The middle aged guy didn't look familiar to her either.
"I've got my eye on you two. Any funny business and you're off the beach!" He shouted, jabbing his finger through the air accusingly at Sai.
Sai swatted his finger away, if he wasn't in the company of ladies he might have broken it off. Mai leapt to her feet, it wouldn't be good if Sai lost his temper. Judging from the stranger's red shorts, she assumed that he was a life guard.
"Have we done something wrong?" She asked gently.
The man's face gradually got redder as he struggled to put exactly what they had done wrong into words.
"Yes! You were both naked!" He finally spat out.
Realisation slowly dawned on Mai, she was starting to remember a certain night of passion she and Sai had shared on a beach. They had just been driving, not even paying attention to which beach they stopped at, she hadn't even noticed it was the same one they were on now.
Ino and Sakura jumped up, eager to hear more. Sasuke silently moved behind Mai, ready to intervene if needed. He knew just dropping his profession into the conversation would settle things down.
"That was years ago." Sai chuckled, finding the whole thing hilarious.
Mai snuck a glance at Ino and was relieved to see that she could see the funny side. She had her arm around Sai's waist and was howling with laughter.
"We'll be on our best behaviour this time." Mai assured the life guard, without feeling the need to mention that they were no longer even a couple.
"O-okay." The life guard replied, flustered.
He seemed far more embarrassed speaking to Mai, something she was quick to ignore but for some reason Sai wasn't.
"You seem a little nervous making eye contact with the lady. Could it be that she's the reason you remember us?"
"Sai, stop it."
"We were here most of the night. It took you a while to stop us." He continued, ignoring Mai.
The man was lost for words, coughing and spluttering, trying to utter a response. Sakura was still doubled over laughing but Sasuke and Ino were both looking at Sai suspiciously. Mai nudged him with her arm and he quickly replaced the smile that had faded and dropped his little interrogation. He almost revealed how possessive he was of Mai.
"Just kidding. We're not together anymore, it's this one you have to look out for." He beamed and pulled Ino into a kiss.
Smooth, Mai silently remarked to herself.

Naruto: 25 Things That Don't Make Sense About Sasuke and Sakura's Relationship

Naruto is well-known for its action, drama, and intense storylines following the rising ninja Naruto Uzamaki and his friends, Sasuke and Sakura. It is one of the most beloved ninja animes ever to exist.
However, many fans also care a great deal about the relationships- aspect of the anime. After all, by the start of Boruto, most all of the main ninja are paired off and have children.
Fans have debated couplings for years, speculating who fits best together. One of the most notable, and most talked about, is the marriage of Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha.
Sakura spent most of the series infatuated with the Uchiha heir, but he seemed to have little interest in her.
By the end, though, he seems to have changed his tune and become much softer towards her. Eventually, by Boruto, they have married and have a daughter, Sarada Uchiha.
However, fans talk a lot about this coupling for more reasons than rooting for them. Many also question the logic of their pairing. After all, they have a lot of history, and not all of it is good. Some were even surprised to see them marry at all.
Sasuke was a fan favorite anti-hero/rootable villain with little time to worry about romance. Yet here he is, married to the girl who loved him far longer than he deserved. The idea of it sounds kind of romantic, so why do fans remain skeptical?
25. SAKURA DUMPED HER FIRST BEST FRIEND FOR HIM

Sakura grew up bullied and alone. Her first best friend was Ino, someone who defended her and encouraged her to be stronger.
The two cherished their friendship. However, as they aged, boys started to interest them.
When Sakura discovered that Ino liked the same boy as her, Sasuke, she discarded their friendship and declared them rivals.
This broke both girls' hearts and was an overreaction to the situation.
They didn't need to lose their friendship over a boy. It never made any sense for Sakura to chose Sasuke, who she barely knew, over her best friend.
24. SAKURA ASKED TO JOIN HIM WHEN HE WAS EVIL

Despite her adoration for Sasuke, Sakura dedicates herself to becoming a great ninja.
However, during the Five Kage Summit Arc, she asks to join him. At this point, he's ended lives and done terrible things.
Her love for him eclipses her morals and beliefs. Sakura wants to do good and help others, yet she was willing to forgo that for him.
That kind of devotion is unhealthy and shows how senseless her feelings for him were. She was willing to give up who she was to be with him.
It's hard to think any relationship can recover from that level of twisted.
23 THEY ONLY HAVE ONE CHILD

While it's said Sasuke and Sakura married for love, there was another big reason for him to marry: children.
By the end of Naruto, Sasuke is the last surviving Uchiha clan member. If he wants his family to live on, he has to produce children.
Regardless of their marital issues, if this was important to Sasuke, they should have had many children, but they didn't.
It'll be hard for a whole clan to regrow from the shoulders of one daughter - especially if she takes her future husband's name.
It's illogical for the couple to have stopped at one child if they wanted to give the Uchiha clan its best chance at revival.
22. SASUKE SHOWED NO ROMANTIC INTEREST FOR YEARS

Sakura shows affection for the young Uchiha heir from the second she meets him. Sasuke, though, shows little to no interest in her.
His first serious interactions with her, when they first became Team 7, involve him calling her annoying.
For years, their relationship stays friendly at its best and antagonistic at its worst.
His focus becomes his revenge and his quest for power. Sakura is irrelevant to all of that.
It isn't until after the Fourth Shinobi War that Sasuke shows any interest, and even then, it's minimal. It makes little sense for that to be enough to constitute a marriage.
21. ALMOST THEIR ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN LONG-DISTANCE

Even though Sasuke and Sakura do marry, they spend little time together. The longest time they are in the same place as a couple is when Sakura follows him on his atonement.
During this, they supposedly fall in love, have Sarada, and get married.
After Sarada's birth, Sakura goes back to the village to raise her safely. Other than than period, approximately a little less than a year, the couple is almost always apart.
It's understandable for Sasuke to be gone on important missions, but it seems ludicrous for him to barely take the time to come home.
It's a detriment to his relationships with his wife and his daughter.
20. SAKURA'S DESPERATION FOR SASUKE'S APPROVAL
Strong-willed and determined as she is, Sakura bends a lot of her opinions and goals to fit Sasuke's approval.
She only ever started to be kind to Naruto because he disliked her talking badly about him. She also only ever tried to work on her abilities to show him that she was strong.
Her beliefs in becoming a good ninja were powerful, but they all warped to include Sasuke.
What makes least sense of all is that Sasuke was a terrible, selfish shinobi. She never should have placed her worth on his approval. Also, she only had long-haired because she thought he'd like it. Yikes.
19. THEIR RELATIONSHIP WAS RUSHED

After the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke finally concedes to Naruto's pleas to come home. This is the first and only time he shows any deeper affection towards Sakura.
Though their reconciliation is tender, them becoming a couple was terribly rushed.
There were a lot of terrible things and painful feelings between them, even if love was there, too. They never got time to deal with these feelings.
Sakura just forgave him, and Sasuke just suddenly loved her.
Then they were married, had a kid, and that was that. It barely made any sense.
18. SASUKE MADE DECISIONS FOR SAKURA WITHOUT ASKING HER

Once Sakura marries Sasuke, a lot of her life is decided for her. Her husband often makes decisions that will harshly effect her without telling her.
For example, he keeps taking very long missions away from home without her input.
Also, he leaves her alone with their daughter, Sarada, but expects her to be happy with being a sole caretaker. He refuses to let her come anywhere with him for a very long time.
Even if these decisions are meant to protect her, Sasuke stifles his wife's individuality by making them. This behavior hardly makes sense in a marriage.
17. THEIR DAUGHTER QUESTIONS HER PARENTAGE

Sasuke is away so often and for so long that Sarada often questions if her parents are really her parents.
First, she questions if Sasuke is her father because of his absence. Later, she questions if Sakura is her mother because of the lack of affection between her and her father.
Eventually, she's convinced of her parentage, but it's still a startling issue. Even in unique couplings, children don't often question their parents so whole-heartedly.
It becomes a serious point of contention for Sarada. They try so little in their relationship that their own daughter is unsure about it.
16. SASUKE ATTRACTS ADMIRERS DESPITE HIS CRUEL INDIFFERENCE

More women than just Sakura loved the Uchiha heir. The most important rivals were Ino and Karin.
Despite their devotion, Sasuke gave all three women the same treatment: cruel indifference.
He's known to insult them, ignore them, and rebuff their advances. This becomes more extreme, though, when noted that Sasuke has violently attacked both Karin and Sakura. Yet both women still loved him.
Their level of devotion is absurd, particularly when it isn't just one women so attached to him.
It's several. It's insane that they still adore him despite such terrible treatment.
15. SAKURA FORGETTING WHAT SASUKE LOOKS LIKE
When Sasuke is away, Sakura does struggle with missing him. Unfortunately for her, he's away far more often than he's not.
This becomes even more heartbreaking when she reveals that she hangs up pictures of him not just because of her love. It's so she doesn't forget what he looks like.
While depressing, it becomes a new level of sadness when realizing that she spent years obsessing about his looks. His appearance was a huge part of why she first became interested in him.
For her not to remember that only clues fans in on how ridiculously long Sasuke stays away from home.
14. THEY AREN'T ON THE SAME PAGE AS PARENTS

Sakura is quite devoted to parenthood, while Sasuke isn't. This comes to the extreme that when running into his 12-year-old daughter, he doesn't recognize her.
Sakura tries to spend time sharing information about her father without revealing the grueling, traumatic parts of his past to the young Sarada.
Sasuke simply says nothing to her about it. Also, the few times Sasuke does train Sarada, Sakura has no clue and just gets surprised by her daughter's new abilities in action.
While 12 years apart takes a toll, Sakura and Sasuke should be nowhere near this disjointed as parents. They could at least trade pictures and give each other updates.
13. THE EMOTIONAL WEIGHT OF THE HEAD-POKE GESTURE

The Uchiha head-poke gesture is an important part of Sasuke's life. After all, it was something dear to him from before he lost his family.
However, his use of the gesture with his own family is overstated. The head-poke has become his only go-to sign of affection.
While well-meant and meaningful, it hardly makes up for his negligence and resistance towards being a present husband and parent.
It's framed as such a monumental, sweet thing for him to do, but it is just a small way to say he cares. A cute head-poke doesn't replace the years he chose to not be with his family.
12. SASUKE'S COOL REACTIONS TO SAKURA'S CONFESSIONS

Sakura confesses her feelings to Sasuke twice. Once, when he first tries to leave and join Orochimaru. The second is during the Fourth Shinobi War, to encourage him to stay.
Her confessions are always said in desperation, trying to protect him or get him to stay. Sakura pours out her heart to him.
Sasuke, however, often reacts to them coolly or with malice. The first one he reacted by calling her annoying. The second time, he calls her annoying again and then literally crushes her heart with his hand.
Later, the show tries to tell fans that Sasuke does love her, but after these terrible displays, it's hard to believe.
11. THEIR RELATIONSHIP'S LACK OF ROMANTIC CONTACT

Though Sakura and Sasuke are married, their displays of affections are stunted at head pokes and side-hugs. This behavior makes sense with his personality, but hardly hers.
Nontraditional methods of affections make sense for them, but there is a level of nontraditional that nears on platonic.
To be believable, the couple needs a few more ways of sharing their love and feelings, even if they are unique. Otherwise, they seem instead like friends with marriage and a kid.
This hardly matches up with the deep levels of affection Sakura feels for Sasuke.
10. SAKURA TREATING NARUTO AS A REPLACEMENT BOYFRIEND

At the beginning of Naruto Shippuden, Team 7 has disbanded to train on their own terms, each with a different Sannin member.
Sasuke remains with Orochimaru, but Sakura and Naruto reunite after two years apart. The two rekindle their friendship and recreate Team 7 with Sai.
Without Sasuke, Sakura spends most of her time with Naruto. She uses him to fill the void in her life, to the point she goes on dates with him.
She knows his feelings for her, and knows she doesn't reciprocate them, but does it anyway.
With Sakura's devotion to loving Sasuke and Naruto's friendship, she shouldn't have done such a mixed singalled, cruel thing to her best friend.
9. SASUKE NEVER WRITES HOME WHILE AWAY ON MISSIONS

Sasuke leaves his family for 12 years to go on missions. While he's protecting their village, he is neglecting his wife and daughter.
The least he could do is write, send pictures back and forth, maybe know what his daughter looks like nowadays.
However, Sasuke doesn't even do that. Messages might be hard to send and at some times could jeopardize missions, but there had to be times that communication was possible.
After all, he must being sending word back to Naruto about missions.
It makes no sense that Sasuke couldn't have sent his family sparse letters to show them his love and affection.
8. SASUKE'S POOR COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Though they love one another, Sasuke and Sakura have a severe communication issue. Between parenting, going on missions, expressing feelings, all of it, Sasuke doesn't often say the things he should.
This communication issue comes to a head during a moment in Sakura's Hidden Novel. There are rumors circulating that Sasuke could be evil again.
She wants to defend him, but she has to be honest that she doesn't know. She hasn't heard enough of him to answer the question honestly.
Sakura's inability to know if the man she loves is evil again reveals a glaring flaw in their relationship, one that doesn't make much sense.
7. SAKURA'S INITIAL OBSESSION WITH HIM

Sakura started loving Sasuke when she was a little girl. The crush sprang from his looks and his abilities. She saw how he was in class and became infatuated.
The crush became nonsensical, though, when she chose to reject her best friend over him.
When she obsessed about being on his team, his opinion, his growth and strengths as a ninja, and her thoughts always lingered to him.
Young Sakura even keeps her appearance how she think he might like it, not how she;d prefer.
Her crush grew into a deeper, more balanced love, where Sakura starts to think more on her own. But her love for him did begin as obsessive, possessive, and nonsensical.
6. THEIR FIRST DATE ONLY LASTED 2.5 MINUTES

In Boruto, Sakura and Ino go to hang out at an overlook by the ocean. Her frienc mentions that she knows this is where the Uchiha couple had their first date.
Embarrassed, Sakura says it was only two and a half minutes. However, she admits the place brings back fond memories of him.
The place clearly means a lot to her, just because she was there with Sasuke. Yet, their first date barely lasted a few bits of dialogue.
After war and the world nearly ending, fans would think Sasuke might want to enjoy the company of his new love.
Sasuke never seems to grow a romantic side, though, and remains distant as ever.
5. SAKURA'S DETRIMENTAL INSECURITIES IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP

Sakura has a hard time, raising their daughter alone while he's far away. Though she insists their love is strong and they show their intimacy differently, she clearly struggles with several insecurities.
At the mere suggestion that she's not his wife, Sakura breaks down her own house with a punch to the ground.
The question isn't even from some rival or enemy - it's from her frustrated and confused daughter.
If their love is as strong as she insists, Sakura shouldn't be so easily sensitive about their relationship.
However, she clearly is, and it shows how fragile her connection sometimes is with Sasuke.
4. SASUKE NEVER PUTS SAKURA FIRST

Throughout Naruto, Sakura put Sasuke before everything. Before her friendships, such as Ino and Naruto and ahead of her safety, trying to bring him back home and, later, to end his madness.
She put him in front of her future, even, as she sacrificed her shinobi lifestyle to become a good mother to his child.
On the opposite end, Sasuke never puts Sakura first. He may love her, but his priorities lie first and foremost with protecting the village and succeeding in his missions.
Their love and marriage are painfully uneven, and it doesn't make sense for a lasting union to be that way. Though, it seems to be the way they have decided to do things.
3. SAKURA GAVE UP HER KONOHA LIFE TO FOLLOW HIM

After the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke leaves town to atone for his sins. The first time, he tells Sakura thank you and says he will come back home.
Off-screen, he comes back to visit and this time Sakura joins his journeys.
Though, to follow Sasuke, Sakura had to abandon her life as a Konohakagure shinobi and follow whatever missions he might decide to be on.
She spent years training for her work and position, only to drop it all to be by his side. As dedicated as she was, it makes no sense for her to give up her life to follow him. Especially when, later, he only leaves her all over again.
2. SAKURA CONTINUED TO LOVE HIM WHEN HE WAS EVIL

At one point, Sasuke was an international criminal being hunted by most all shinobi. He had committed heinous crimes against others, including attacks, theft, deception, and taking lives.
Despite this, though, Sakura loves him. She says it's because she sees the real him underneath it all, and hopes the person he was will return.
Even though it comes true, that belief is senseless. Sasuke cruelly attacked, insulted, and undermined her as a ninja and as a person.
Sakura loving the old Sasuke makes sense, but the new one should have destroyed her romantic interest in him.
1. SASUKE TRIED TO END HER LIFE

The most alarming and troubling facts about their relationship is that Sasuke tried to destroy her.
When he was knee-deep in his quest for power, no one mattered but him and his brother. Neither of his two closest friends, Naruto or Sakura, would be allowed to get in his way.
When Sakura begs for a second time to come back, that they could be happy together, he quite literally tries to crush her heart.
If her love for him hadn't shattered before, that moment should have done it. However, the couple married regardless. True love conquers even purposefully endangering a partner's life, it seems.

Hearth- a Naruto Fanfic (CH 2)
Hi, I don’t own Naruto or any of the characters in this story.
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13035782/2/Hearth
Two
SASU
“Strip down here.” Sakura ordered. From my place just inside her household door, I could not help but immediately halt. I could feel my jaw drop. Sighing and quickly looking away, she elaborated. “Sasuke. You look like shit. You are a mess. You’re full of mud, stinky, and to top it all off, I just cleaned my house last night. So please. Take off those filthy rags, and I’ll show you to your room.” The tips of her ears were dusted in a light rose, as were her cheeks. Was it because she was upset, or because of the implications that her telling me to strip could provoke, had she not elaborated? “I’m sure all your clothes are dirty, I think I might have something sitting around that’ll fit you…” she trailed off, or I stopped listening. “Hn.” was all I could manage to say. If I opened my mouth further, I could not guarantee that I wouldn't be harsh with her. Who’s clothing would I be wearing what man would she-, no, what man would DARE to stay in her home? Her home is off limits. Sakura is off limits. I would have to have a little chat with whoever decided to stay here. I’ll have to somehow get her to tell me who was here last. Almost as if she was reading my mind, the next words out of her mouth answered my questions.
“...Naruto was here about a week or so ago” she smiled slightly, and my previous rage and determination to beat the man who stayed in her home to a pulp was slightly forgotten. The dobe was in for a beating. Didn’t he have his own place to stay?? More importantly, I was stuck wondering about the fact that her small, wistful smile affected me so much. Gods, what is happening to me? Tuning back in from my inner ramblings, she continued on with her little anecdote. “Hinata had just left for a diplomatic mission to Suna, and he claimed the “house was too empty without her warmth”, and he didn’t want to stay there alone...he was soo mopey. It was kind of cute, actually.” She giggled, and with that, it was back to Serious Sakura. “Leave your pack by the door, I’ll get your laundry started. You know where the bathroom is. There should be towels and washcloths in the cabinet next to the sink. Your room is the first left in the hallway, there’s fresh linens and everything. I’ll leave Naruto’s clothes outside of the door, for when you’re done. After that, we’re having tea. Did you eat already? Well...we don’t have to have tea, I’m sure you’re tired and all, since you’ve been travelling so long…” She trailed off, looking slightly unsure. The entire time she was talking, I was just staring. It was quite amusing, how quick she could go from rambling about Naruto, to bossing me around like a wife would to her husband, to being shy and unsure. I didn’t like that Sakura, the one without confidence. It reminded me of the times in which I had made her think she was anything less than strong and important. I didn’t understand what she could be unsure about, though. Of course I want to spend time with her.
Without a thought, I found myself raising my hand to poke her forehead. “Sakura...thank you”. As I walked away, I wasn’t sure if i could hear a slight gasp, or if it was just my imagination hoping so. On my way down the hall to the bathroom, I stopped in front of the room that was to be mine for the next couple of days/weeks/months. How many men has she helped? Does she boss them around like she did with me? Does she demand that they have tea together, and then become shy after? Does she was their laundry as well? I hoped these small little things were only for me, but I could not be mad at her if they werent. Sakura is a caring and affectionate person by nature, and she would never turn down a comrade in need of help.
SAKU
It was hard to believe that Sasuke was here in the flesh, I mean, he had been gone only for 5-ish months, but he never told me when he would be back, or really if he planned on coming back. It crushed me. When he left, he did say he would take me with him next time he came to the village, however, he was extremely vague on when that would be. Knowing him, it could have been years before he returned. Then again, he proved me wrong by returning here. On top of that he returned to me before seeing anyone else. Why did he come to my house rather than seeing Kakashi sensei? Perhaps he needed healing of some form.
“Sakura.” a deep voice broke my internal musings, making me drop the mug I was grabbing from the cupboard.
“OH! Sasuke, I didn’t realize you were already out of the shower, what kind of tea would you like? I have camomile with lavender, irish breakfast tea, or jasmine. I can run out and get a different kind if none of these are to your liking…” UGH why does this always happen to me around him? I am always a nervous blubbering fool and it drives me crazy. He must think I’m insane.
“Tch, you’re a kunoichi, you should be more aware of your surroundings, Sakura. Camomile is fine.” Sasuke reprimanded as he walked further into my tiny little alcove of a kitchen.
“Are you sure? I know you like matcha the best. I’m fresh out, actually….” Nervously I began rummaging through my fridge. As for food, I have some rice, some fruits, and I know for a fact that I have some dried cuttlefish somewhere. Are you hungry, Sasuke-kun? I don’t have much- today is my grocery day.”
“...Sakura, how can such a renowned healer only have leftover rice and dried fish in her house? We’ll go shopping. At the very least, I can cook in return for your letting me stay here.”
I couldn't help but stop dead in my tracks. Not only was he teasingly reprimanding me, but he also was offering to cook for me, too? Run my errands with me? Before I even had time to respond, I felt Sasuke’s presence right behind me. “Annoying girl, do you even eat?” Leaning over my crouched form into my fridge he picked up an old soggy looking stalk of celery and tossed it on the kitchen counter. “Lets go, we’ll go shopping now.”
In a sudden bit of clarity, I could only see two issues with our little outing. “Sasuke-kun, what about letting Kakashi know you’re here? And Naruto? If he finds out from someone that you’re here, he won’t shut up for daaaays. I mean it! When I left for a mission without saying goodbye he cold shouldered me for two weeks after I got back. Of course, he came burling into my house the moment I returned. I suspect he just wanted to know I was okay.” I said with a light giggle. “He then turned up his nose and stormed out of the door he just threw open. Didn’t even say a word!!”
“Hn. The dobe can come to me if he has an issue with my being here. I’m not his boyfriend. I don’t have to come to him right away any time I step foot in this village. As for the old man, I suppose we’ll stop on the way to the market. The guards probably told him I’m back the thirty seconds after I stepped through the gates.”
In the short hour and a half that Sasuke has been back, I’ve noticed a change in him. What happened in those months he was gone? I can almost feel the lighter aura coming from him, when once, in his presence, all I could feel was his self loathing and bitterness towards the world. Maybe he found love on his travels? Oh my god...maybe he has a girlfriend and she’s helping him restore the clan? Or maybe he found out he is terminally ill and decided to live his life to the fullest??? One thing I know for certain, I would not take this new, lighter Sasuke for granted. I mean, for the most part he has always been more open with me, but today, it’s like he has let down all of his walls with me. A slight poke on my arm snapped me out of my ramblings. “Sakura, what’s going on with you today? You’re out of it. You should see Tsunade.”
“I’m fine, Sasuke-kun. I guess I’m still processing the fact that you’re, well, here. I expected you to be away much longer than this...I missed you.” I said, gathering my cardigan, wallet, and my keys. We should get a move on, the market will be getting busier this time of day, and we want the best options. Tally-ho!!” And with that, I grabbed his wrist and dragged him out of my little slice of heaven and into the bright midday sun of a calm Spring day. Instead of taking his hand out of my grasp like I expected him to, he grabbed my own and gave it a light squeeze before dropping it to my side. The blush that adorned my face was out of my control. Why is it that the simplest gestures caused me to spiral into a mess of emotions? We walked lazily to the Hokage tower, soaking in the first real day of sunshine and temperatures above 45° that Konoha has seen in about three months. Sasuke’s shoulder would occasionally brush mine as we avoided the bustling citizens wandering the streets. It might have been because Sasuke was here at my side, walking close enough that our hands were touching, but I felt as though everyone and their mother was out today, and they were all staring at us.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The trip to see Kakashi-sensei wasn’t as momentous as I had thought it would be. As Sasuke said, Kakashi already knew of his return.
“Ah Sakura! My favorite student! To what do I owe this visit?! And Sasuke too?” His eyes crinkled up above his ever present face mask. “Is there some love advice you two are in need of? I can lend you a copy of my Icha Icha books!”
With a glint in my eye I was about ready to throw one of the many stacks of papers on his desk to the ground. “Actually, Sensei,” I said with a sarcastic sneer, “Sasuke just stopped by to let you know he has returned to the village for the time being.”
“Ah yes, I knew the minute he walked past the gates. As you know, we just got new and improved security systems that can help detect chakra signatures from 5 miles away!! Although I am happy to see you two...I was getting a bit bored with all the paperwork here. Heh. Are you sure you don’t need those books? Could you maybe tell Shizune that you need them anyway? If you don’t I can take them off your hands...please? Sakura, my favorite! I need just a tiny tiny break from all of this dreadful Hokage business, and she’s taken that one escape away from me! She trusts you! She’d tell you where she’s hidden them in a heartbeat!”
“Sasuke,” I whispered, “We need to leave. Now. It’ll only get worse from here…”
“Some Hokage you are, old man. Lets go, Sakura.”
“No! Don’t go! Unless...are you going to get my books?!?!”
As we quickly made our way out of the Hokage Tower I made sure to stop by Shizune’s office.
“He’s getting worse, Shizune. He’s up to his neck in paperwork. Maybe offer Icha Icha Paradise as a reward for getting some of his work done?”
“Sakura! Sasuke-san! Was it that bad? When I left him about twenty minutes ago he was doing alright….” The poor girl...she got stuck with two Hokages who hated paperwork. One who had a drinking problem, and the newest one who had an addiction to his porn books. I could see the wrinkles from stress forming on her forehead. I sure dodged a bullet with that one, as Kakashi asked me to be his assistant when he first got elected into office.
“Yeah, Shizune, it was that bad. Anyway, we’re off. Lots of things to do, places to be, horny Hokages to avoid….you know, the usual!” with that I dragged a stunned Sasuke out of the doors and into the crowded streets. Sasuke stopped in his tracks, and stared at me with wide onyx eyes.
“What the fuck just happened?”
“Honestly Sasuke, I’m not too sure myself. He’s usually not this bad. Shizune always takes his books away for a little bit to try to goad him into working. He sets up elaborate schemes to get them from her. It kinda feels like we stepped into an alternate dimension for a bit, right?” I said, tiredly. “Let’s get to the market. I could really use a quick cup of coffee and maybe a light snack while we shop. And to forget about whatever that was.
SASU
As we walked through the village together, I couldn’t help but glance at the pink haired girl--no, woman, next to me. The years have been kind to her, and although we are still young, we have all been through so much. The young woman next to me is far different from the girl I knew before I left. Once upon a time, she was a tall, gangly little thing with bright green eyes, and a forehead too big for her face. Now, at almost 20, she’s grown into that forehead, her eyes still that bright, spring green despite all that she has seen.
“Sakura, you’re short.” I stated. She used to be taller than me. Now, she only comes up to my neck.
With widened eyes and a flustered expression, Sakura responded a little too quickly to hide her shock at my observation. “Wha?! No I’m not! I’m average height, thank you very much! You-you’re too tall!”
“Hn.” I said, looking away. “It’s cute though..” I muttered into the breeze without a thought. I could feel the tips of my ears burning. Why is it that these thoughts come so easily to my brain? With a sigh, I couldn't help but wish that I was able to suppress them more.
“HUH? What was that Sasuke-kun? Do you care to repeat it? I am not short! Hey! Are you listening to me?”
“Sakura. Shut up.” I said, ruffling her hair, a slight smirk forming at the corners of my mouth. With a pout, she stomped off in the direction of the coffee shop closest to the market. “Annoying” I muttered to myself more than anyone. With a headstart to the little cafe ahead of us, I had to jog a bit to catch up. The place must have been newly built after Pein’s invasion. As the old Konoha had hardly any cafes. The only one being an old teahouse that hardly had any visitors. This place, however, had a new, yet homey feel to it, with large glass windows allowing the bright sun in, little tables inside of a delicate white fence surrounding the small patio, and green plants hanging everywhere. I could see Sakura spending her time here when she wasn’t working at the hospital, training, or reining in Naruto’s crazy antics.
I just got to her in time for us to order our drinks. Sakura ordering a chai tea with extra cinnamon, and a raspberry danish was no surprise to me. The girl had an insatiable sweet tooth, which was one thing that never changed throughout our childhood.
“Sasuke-kun, did you want anything? My treat!” Her previous annoyance with me seemed to be forgotten.
“I’ll take an iced coffee, no sugar, and room for cream. I’ll find us somewhere to sit.”
“Hm, okay! Somewhere by a window, please!”
For some reason, I felt light today. The biggest part due to Sakura’s presence. She made me feel calm, despite all of the worries floating in my head. I knew the moment I decided to come back to the village that I would ask her to leave with me, but I didn’t know how she would answer. Perhaps she has decided that she’s needed in the village, working at the hospital. She mentioned, one brisque fall evening before I left, that she wanted to open up a mental health ward for orphaned children. It was one of those nights where I found myself unable to leave her presence, although I couldn’t place why. Now, after months of being away I could finally realize it. Her presence was something I could no longer be without for more than necessary. Her smile was something I wished to see every day. The way she blushed and looked away smiling when she caught me staring, like just now, was something that comforted me on my travels. Sakura Haruno had loved me for a long time. I came to realize I’ve loved her just as long. The avenger in me shoved those feelings so far into the recesses of my soul for most of my life. The darkness shrouded so much love from my precious people, and I was blinded. Sakura deserves better than me, but I made an unspoken promise to her, and to myself that day five months ago. I promised to be a man worthy of the love she has curated for years. To be worthy of her. However, that didn't stop me from wondering, did she still want to travel with me? Did she still love me the way she did, all those years ago? My mind was heavy with the thoughts that she may not want that, or me, any longer. After all, I have left her behind so many times before.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Sasuke-kun!! What should we make for lunch? I was thinking some sukiyaki? Or we could keep it simple and do miso soup and rice?”
“Sukiyaki sounds nice, lets go check Mr. Yuashi’s stand for the vegetables. He always has the best selection.”
“Ah, Sasuke, he’s in the hospital currently...nothing to serious! Just a simple case of pneumonia...but I don’t think his wife was able to run the stand alone. Mrs. Uzuko however, has a nice stand as well. She grows all of her vegetables in a little garden outside of the village! That’s where I usually get your tomatoes from. She actually gave me a small cherry tomato plant since I was constantly buying them.”
“Hn, let’s go there then. It seems as though more is changing in the village since i’ve been gone. What else is new, besides the coffee shop?”
“Well, since the war ended, we were able to hire contractors from other villages to help us get back on our feet after the invasion. Beforehand, we didn’t have the manpower to spare anyone for those projects, and we couldn't ask anyone from other smaller villages for help, since they were all trying to stay safe from Madara and all that was happening. There has been an influx of small shops opening up now since we have more space. It’s been really cool, actually. Civilians from other villages have been moving here to try and expand their businesses, and it’s greatly improved our trade with different nations. Just recently, I found a new plant shop that opened up near the old Uchiha district. His name is Sechi and he’s from Suna. Oh my gods, Sasuke! He has some amazing herbs and plants that can only grow in the hot desert environment! I made a really cool salve that can help with sunstroke. The leafs can also be used to cure vomiting and heartburn. He also-sorry, am I rambling? I’m rambling. Anyway, the village always seems to be growing these days. It makes me happy.”
Sakura could talk for hours, and when that used to annoy me, I now found myself being pulled in by every word she said. I realized I hadn’t said anything since she stopped talking 45 seconds ago. She would probably take that as me not wanting to talk, solidifying her thought that I would presumably be annoyed by her ramblings. “The relationships between Hidden Villages and smaller ones alike seem to be strengthening. Change within the shinobi world is changing. That gives me hope. Thank you, Sakura, for telling me.I would like to see that shop sometime, but for now... Let’s get our ingredients and go home, I’m getting hungry.” With that, I grabbed her hand, pulling her towards the small line in front of the produce stand so we could finally get back to the solace of her small apartment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SAKU
Never in my life did I expect Sasuke to be such a proficient chef. The minute we arrived back to my house, he was a tornado of efficiency in the kitchen. Somehow, he managed to find everything he needed without any help.
“Is there anything I can help with?”
“No.”
“Not even cutting the vegetables?”
“No, Sakura, just go do whatever. I’ll call you when the food is ready.”
. . .
“Actually, do you have any sake? I didn’t see any in your cabinets. That would go well with this dish.”
“Hah! You’re really asking me, the Fifth Hokage's apprentice, if I have any sake? Of course I do! You don’t train under Tsunade-shishou and not learn to have sake on deck, just in case. That woman would tear my house apart looking for some if Shizune even took it away from her for more than two days.”
“Off you go, then.”
With that, I was dismissed from the kitchen. Sasuke really seemed different, like there was a burden lifted off his chest. My earlier thought of him having a woman outside of the village floated through my mind, but I decided that he wouldn’t have held my hand earlier if he had someone else. I know with my heart that Sasuke is loyal to those he considers his precious people through and through. Although his past actions may contradict that, he isn’t leading a path of redemption for no reason. While Sasuke was busy cooking our lunch, I got to organizing a box of old pictures that my mother had dropped of the day before. As I was shuffling through them, I came across a picture of Team Seven in the Land of Waves. A picture I completely forgot taking. It was our first big mission, and we didn’t even know it at that point. It’s crazy how time has passed, how each of us has persevered against all odds. Although we don’t always get to see each other at the same time, what with Sasuke traveling, Naruto being with Hinata, and Kakashi being the Hokage, that family tie will forever be there. Those are my boys and they always will be. Lost in my reminiscing, I didn't hear Sasuke come up behind me until he was crouched down behind me, looking at the picture in my hand, his breath warm on my ear.
“We were such spring babies then. We had no clue how big of an opponent we would be facing with Zabuza and Haku. We didn’t know of the trails we would all have to face in the coming years.”
Gasping, I dropped the picture. “Geeze, Sasuke-kun, can’t you make some noise when you’re walking around?? But yeah, we had no clue then...I remember you being so unwilling to take that picture. Actually, this is the first time I’ve seen it. After that mission, I didn’t even bring my camera with me anymore. I completely forgot about it. My mom must have developed the pictures for me...I would have liked to have this when you were gone.”
“Why’s that?
“So I could look back on times that were simpler. Times when you were still here. I now understand why you left, however I still don’t think it was the right choice. Part of me is greatful, still. Without your leaving, I think I would have stayed stuck in my old ways. Relying on you and Naruto to protect me…”
“I’m sorry Sakura. You deserved better than that. But I’m glad you’re stronger because of it.The food is ready. Let’s go eat.” he said as he pulled on a lock of my hair. “It’s grown out a bit, I like it at this length. It suits you well.”
With a slight blush, I made to get up, but not before Sasuke held out his sole hand to help me up from my position on the floor.
“Thank you. For being here, and for making lunch. Sasuke...if you don’t mind me asking...how’d you cut the vegetables and tofu with one hand?”
“Simple, I summoned a hand made from my susanoo.”
“Sasuke-kun, you’re ridiculous. I would have helped, you know.”
“Hn. Too bad.” he said with the slight smile he’s only shown in my presence.
--
The food was better than I expected. Not only was he confident in the battle field, but he was in the kitchen as well. Was this man skilled in every aspect of life? My imagination got the best of me as I imagined coming home from a long day to a shirtless Sasuke, adorned with the lemon printed apron I keep hanging up in the kitchen, inviting me to the bedroom...in this fantasy, he cooked me a lavish breakfast in bed, and he was the dessert. The blush that covered my face was impossible to hide.
“Sakura, is everything alright? You’re flushed.”
“Ha! Haa..yeah, I’m fine! Must be the sake getting to me. Although I know how to handle my alcohol, it doesn’t stop me from getting blushed really easily!!!!!!” I lied through a sip of said sake. “This is amazing, Sasuke. Is there anything you can’t do?” I let my inner thought slip out, despite my wish to keep those thoughts strictly to myself. Perhaps the alcohol was getting to me more than usual.
“Hn, you’ll just have to find out.” Voiced the smirking Uchiha from behind his own cup of sake, the somehow deeper vibrato of his voice cascading across the table. What exactly that meant, I wasn’t sure of, and I couldn’t help the shiver of a n t i c i p a t i o n that went down my spine.

Matters of the Heart - BoruSara Fanfiction

Hey guys, I'm finally able to post this chapter! I did it first time and it showed a few technical mishaps. Although, I think, the app actually deletes spaces of the content I post when it is done from PC. It's getting seriously annoying!
Anyways, let me stop the complaining here itself and move onward of the last chapter. Yes, this is the last chapter of this story! Hope you'll enjoy it!
Love to amazing @anastasiapancake for helping me with this chapter!
Chapter 7
What She Loves
The morning sunlight streamed into the room through the window. The beams of the light flickered on his face and the rustle of leaves was soft. Boruto groaned and rubbed his forehead, wishing for the sleep to vanish from his senses.
His eyes went in and out of focus as he blinked but finally a mop of black hair entered his field of vision. The warm body pressed against his was an electrifying sensation and Boruto almost jumped out of the bed, a hand slapping over his mouth to prevent him from letting out a scream.
She was sleeping. Her serene smiling face was a sight to withhold. The soft sunrays illuminated her resting figure and bathed it in an ethereal glow, and for a few moments, Boruto just sat there, taking her form in and carving it into his memories.
Then the memories of last night’s events rushed in. He found himself blushing red when he remembered her being pressed into him and how her beautifully unique smell that filled his nostrils still lingered. He remembered the doubts he had confessed, along with the feelings that he has suppressed for so long.
And...to be fair, finally being honest with her felt as if the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders.
“You know it already, don't you? I always have and always will.”
Her words had engraved themselves into the deepest part of his mind and the memory of her expressive onyx eyes shining with so much warmth, all for him, made him feel like the luckiest man alive in the entire world.
He had fallen in love with his best friend and she loved him back. Honestly, it was such an overwhelming feeling that Boruto still had a hard time processing it.
In all his thoughts he never paid attention when Sarada’s eyes fluttered open.
“Good morning Boruto.” She gave him a small sleepy smile and it was the most adorable thing ever… aside from Himawari’s smile. Not that he’d tell anyone that.
Boruto almost squeaked when he realised how creepy he would have looked to be staring at her while she slept, so he ducked to hide his face.
Suddenly Sarada wailed slamming her alarm clock, “Are you kidding me?! I’m about to be late. And I have a meeting with one of the only contractors willing to work for damage repair in the outskirts of the village.”
“Oye! Calm down! You still have twenty minutes to make it.”
She nodded and jumped to the bathroom and Boruto quickly scampered around the house and went to the kitchen to prepare something for her to eat. Well, he was pretty well familiarized with the Uchiha house and it included the kitchen as well.
As soon as he entered the kitchen a familiar voice called out and he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand.
“Boruto-kun?”
He gulped and slowly turned his head towards the direction of the voice, unconsciously stepping back when he found a set of curious crystal green eyes stare back at him in confusion.
“H-Hey Aunt Sakura!” he raised his arm to wave at the older woman as a sign of greeting, already sweating buckets. He was aware of how feral Sakura Uchiha was when it came to her daughter’s safety. Well, he had seen her throwing a guy twice her size across the village when she had learned that the bastard was stalking her then fifteen years old daughter. He knows and swears on his life that he is not that kind of disgusting creep in any form but still… he would like to keep his bones intact, especially after coming out of the hospital a week ago, thank you very much.
“Did you… just come out of Sarada’s room?”
Shit. God may save him now.
Sakura had seen him practically since he was an infant so it was not exactly hard for her to read how his body tensed and he turned a burning shade of red. She inwardly giggled at how obvious the child’s affection was for her daughter.
“I guess you did. Did you two have se-”
“NO! We didn’t!” Boruto screamed, scarlet faced and almost hyperventilating.
Sakura took immense pleasure in seeing him so flustered and then wondered if the onset of old age is making her sadistic. The boy was generally so cocky and rambunctious that it was only during these moments that he looked like his mother’s son. And it felt good to see a little bit of Hinata in him.
Sakura grinned cheekily and Boruto turned his head on the other side.
“I thought you were in the hospital, with Uncle Sasuke.”
“Oh, I was. But it's nice to clean up and eat something at home once in a while, don't you think?” She winked at him.
“And your master is such a man child. He said he wanted home food.”
She stirred something in the pot and then pointed him to sit what he obeyed. She sat in front of him and a knowing smile graced her lips.
“So…?”
“So?”
“So…?”
Boruto tilted his head in confusion trying to map out the reason why his aunt was playing with him when his eyes widened in realisation.
“It... can't be! You know?!”
The smug smirk on Sakura's face was definitely more than enough of an answer.
“Your mother told me! She said you've been running around entire Konoha to find the perfect one for her.”
“Yes. Because she doesn't deserve anything less than perfect.” His voice turned small at the admission.
“You're wrong Boruto.”
Sakura's features softened and her green eyes glimmered with years of wisdom in matters of the heart.
“She deserves what she loves, you know.”
Of course. Yes.
“Thank you.” The amount of gratefulness seeping through his voice and the brightest smile she has ever seen him giving, warmed the older woman's heart. To her, these kids were someone who deserved all the love and happiness in the world. Maybe it was just a mother's heart speaking but Sakura would dare to pluck the stars off the sky for them.
“Help me.” She asked him and he immediately agreed, jumping off his chair and running around the kitchen to assist her. She prepared two bentos, one for herself and one for her husband.
Enough food was left for two people when Sakura patted him lovingly on the head, noticing how she had to tiptoe for it and left for the hospital.
By the time Sarada arrived, Boruto already had arranged a breakfast table for two. Sarada hummed at the sight of him in an apron, the sleeves of his shirt rolled up to his elbows and large bangs falling on his cheeks.
The scene looked so domestic and so homey that Sarada could actually imagine this being a part of their lives forever.
He must have sensed her presence and looked up, his blue eyes glimmering with something she couldn't place a finger on.
“You're here! Come on!”
He invited her and she joined him on the table immediately, gulping down the well cooked breakfast.
“Mom was here?” She asked between the bites.
“Yeah. I know I'm good at cooking, but even I can't prepare a delicious meal like this in just fifteen minutes -ttebasa!”
Sarada rolled her eyes but then noticed something weird. His food was untouched and he seemed...fidgety?
Was something wrong? They sorted out everything yesterday night, didn't they? Is he trying to say that everything that happened that night was a lie? Or did she say something to annoy him?
A million possibilities rushed through her head, each worse than the previous ones.
…
“Sarada…I'll see you tomorrow.”
“No.”
“Eh?”
“Stay.”
“W-what?”
“I said stay. I don't wanna sleep alone.”
“Sarada…”
“Please!”
“Alright.”
….
When Sarada thinks about it, she might have behaved like a petulant, spoiled brat. It was too soon for them to share a bed (in literal sense, for actually sleeping). But it was her being so needy and cranky about it.
I am sorry.
She wanted to say but the words got stuck in her throat, refusing to come out and also not allowing her to swallow them down.
“Sarada.”
The call of her name brought her out of her stupor and she found herself staring into his brilliant blue eyes.
She was even more confused when he left his chair to approach her, stopping a few steps before.
“Boruto?” He might have heard the insecurity in her voice because he gave her a gentle smile which brought her doubts to an end.
“Look.” He started, a hand running up against his golden locks, a nervous habit, “-I know it's really out of nowhere and frighteningly too soon after yesterday's night. And specially after having made you wait for so long, I completely understand if you don't want to accept it immediately. But I have to do this. Because I want you to know that I won't be backing down. I'm completely serious about our relationship.” “Boruto?” Sarada felt a little alarmed at his words and even more when he knelt on one knee in front of her. She's seen this happening. Countless number of times - in movies and serials and even once or twice in real life. But nothing had ever prepared her for this. Pulling out a black velvet box, he offered her a ring - in fact, an engagement ring - a beautiful silver band, with a perfectly cut Ruby on the top. It was beautiful. “Sarada Uchiha, will you marry me?” Sarada still sat there, jaw slacked. She couldn't even begin to process the event happening in front of her, let alone force out a response. Even after waiting for a few moments, Sarada was unable to reply. But Boruto did not deter. It looked as if he already knew the answer. His blue eyes were calm and soft. “W-what is the meaning of this, Boruto?” Sarada asked shakily. His lips curved into a smile. “It is what it looks. I want to marry you.” “B-but-” He didn't let her continue, raising her hand to his lips, to drop a kiss of promise on the back of her hand. “I said it before, didn't I? I know it's my turn to wait now and I'm willing to do that as much as it takes. Because if it is you for me in the end, then it's worth the wait.”
There was a silence filled with anticipation before Sarada asked softly, “What if I refuse?”
“Then I'll ask again, tomorrow! No problem!” he said, loudly, with enthusiasm and Sarada found herself shaking her head fondly.
“But what if I say no again?”
“I'll ask again, the next day. I'll keep asking till you decide you want to say yes.”
A laugh escaped her lips at his stubborn will. And she will not be surprised if does this exactly. She has known him since they were infants. And by now she knows him better than he knows himself.
As much as the ring looked pretty, and as much as she wanted to say yes, she decided that she will not.
Call her cruel but she wanted him to have a taste of his own medicine. And now with the chance right in front of her she wasn't letting it slip through her fingers.
Smirking evilly on the inside, her heart filled with glee, she leaned down and pecked Boruto on the cheek.
And to her utter amusement, he instantly flushed red. Leave it to him to propose to someone with a straight face and then burn red from just a little kiss on the cheek. Sarada giggled to herself and left him on one knee there, his jaw still hung open, the shock from her actions still strong.
She had work to do after all.
She is almost at the exit of the house when he sprinted to her at a furious speed.
“Oi! Oi! Sarada! W-what was that? A yes or a no?!”
“Boruto.”
“Yeah?”
“Shut up and kiss me already.”
Alright! My lovelies, this was the final chapter! So, what do you think? Was the ending satisfactory? Did you have fun reading it? I'm super-duper excited to hear your thoughts!
I know I should have included the link of all previous chapters but since the Tumblr doesn't let up posts with links show up in tags, I did not. (Well, it never does for me nowadays) But if you want the links then you can send me an ask or anything!
And...well, you might get an epilogue to this story! A oneshot! I hope you'll are interested!
Happy winters!

Maybe the reason we got this ending (Naruto as a whole) is to show the face of regret and lying to oneself and others and where that gets you...like think about it for a second reallly think. We as a Fanbase all knew Naruto loved Sakura from beginning till 699 we all knew this, we also knew that Sakura cared more about Naruto than any other character at the end of the manga I mean we have the CPR scene, the speech scene, etc...then we see a sudden shift in characters as a whole especially sakura (also Orochimaru and the introduction of Kaguya eww) I'd like to further my reasoning into why sakura in the end of Naruto is OOC not even her own Fanbase sees it. I'd like to further my data into a few singular points. The ending point of the original Naruto and Shippuden. We see a sudden confession made by Sakura to Sasuke which can clearly be seen as obbsesive guilt-tripping. As she yells in both cases 'you can't leave me' or 'you can't leave me again' but a major detail with that statement is Sakura never had Sasuke for the entire series, she was always that crush you had but grew out of it and focused on better things and people like Naruto. Which is why Sakura is one of the only characters at the end of the series to actually and truthfully fall in love with a character...Naruto. I know a lot of hate will com my way by saying this, but hear me out. We see that Sakura initially mocks him being a child for having no parents but eventually learns more and more about him rather than the villages portrayal of him. We see her initial change of disgust and resentment to respect and encouragement throughout the Chunin exams especially. We see that Naruto has a definitive idea of who he wants to be and who he likes and dislikes, I express this in the way that everyone should be familiar with. The Zabuza speech, one of the most iconic and memorable moments in both anime and Manga it truly shows the longing and want for love by a character meaning Naruto knows what love is, we get further evidence for this in his attitude towards gaara hurting sakura and his will to protect sakura, this is also seen in many other popular anime at the time (bleach -ahem Ichigo and Orihime) we see that a very subtle character as Naruto knows these types of emotions because he's always wanted those emotions felt towards him. Especially love. So I come back to Sakura and why she is so OOC, well first off she still calls Sasuke 'Sasuke-kun' which is an expression of well interest mainly romantic interest. Same with 'Chan' We understand this because we'll everyone and their mother has looked it up. I say the problem when Sasuke is introduced is it's pointless, and only allows for the Kaguya Sage garbage to make less sense tbh. (I'll get that another time) Then we get into the death scenes of both Naruto and Sasuke and we see who parallels with who, who is meant to save who. Sakura with Naruto and Karin with Sasuke. It's very clear This progresses and Kaguya is defeated then literally 15 years of character and relationship buildup is ruined, sakura confesses again to Sasuke, meaningless and stupid Sasuke shuts her up with 'you're annoying' and fake kills her, but do t forget he has tried 3 times already so what can you say. We see that all her initial feelings that were clearly built up between Naruto and her were just ruined in a matter of pages where she gets rejected twice and nearly killed. Which shows that her reasoning to become stronger and move on was pointless and every single aspect of her was pointless to then be made into a housewife which is infuriating as a person that actually likes her as a character. Then she just forgives Sasuke after everything the dude has done at a drop of a hat, like wtf? I mean Kishi I get it you're a terrible writer but at least have some integrity... Anyway we see that Sakura in the last somehow becomes a love guru even though she is 'in love' with Sasuke who rejected her and tried to kill her multiple times. But anyway we see her as a character become well more bland only being a super powered girl who still has a child hood crush. Like what was the point of character growth? Then we see her in Gaiden basically depressed and sad at the fact her husband is never home and her daughter basically is in a fatherless home until duhdudun plot compelled them to meet where as Sakura who supposedly used to be the head of the konoha hospital is now a common housewife basically reduced to a bland uninteresting character. That is Sakura Haruno sadly

Only You
Prompt: First Love, Sasusaku Month Day One
Summary: When Sasuke and Sakura realise who their daughters first love was and in the process find out about eachothers. (Post Gaiden)
“I think Sarada has a crush on Boruto.”
Sasuke has always taken pride in being a careful person, he’s rarely the kind to let things fall from his only hand and even if on the off chance something does, his reflexes are fast enough for him to catch the item before it hits the ground.
But when Sakura walks into their house after a long shift at the hospital to make one of the most ludicrous announcements he’s heard in a while he can’t help but drop the stirring spoon he held in his hands.
“What?”
His voice is silent and deadly. On a normal mission it’s enough to paralyze whoever is on the receiving end in terror but Sakura simply laughs it off, her husband hardly looks threatening in his his homely blue apron which matches the head band that thier daughter had helped him tie to keep the hair out of his face.
“I’m going to kill him.”
“Oh darling I think you’re over reacting.” Sakura states as she wraps her arms around his waist and stands on her tip toes so that she can peer over his shoulders to see what he’s making (it’s Sarada’s favourite sweet dish) “I think it’s cute that he’s her first love.”
Sasuke sighs, his immediate plans of killing a certain blonde haired idiot (No, not that one, his son) subsiding.
It’s easy to give into his wife in moments like these when they are alone. He knows she’s tired, the soft yawn she tries to stiffle as she presses her cheek to his back is a testament to that.
Sasuke doesn’t have the heart to break out of her grip for he knows that at times like these when Sakura is tired, chakra depleted and cold he’s her favourite pillow.
He’d never admit it out loud but he was quite proud of that particular designation.
Plus it’s not like he’d actually be able to wriggle out of her embrace considering her ungodly strength.
Besides the more time he’s given to think, the more painful he can make that moronic brat’s death.
He suppose Sarada would be mad at him for the first couple of days but he was sure she’d get over it after he taught her a new jutsu.
Sakura hums softly as he stands there letting his brief spike of anger simmer down along with syrup he’s stirring to her soft tune. It’s a lullaby she’s humming, one that he’d sung once to her during her pregnancy days when she had trouble sleeping. It’s the same one Itachi used to sing when he was a child and it’s calming effect still holds true after all these years.
“Darling.” Sakura starts,“Who was your first love?”
Sasuke blinks, all his creative plans to kill Boruto brought to a abrupt stop by her sudden query.
“What do you mean?” Sasuke’s voice is harsher than he means it to be and while he tries to convince it’s because something is stuck in his throat he is well aware that it’s just an excuse to cover up the fact that he’s the slightest bit hurt that even after all these years the answer is still a mystery to Sakura.
“Oh!” She says jerking away from him, her hands falling away as she steps back. Wide veridian eyes stare back at him as he turns around to face her, irritated that she let go.
For a moment she stands there still before she starts stuttering out,“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t realise. I didn’t mean to pry- I was just curious and-”
“Sakura.” He interrupts,“What are you talking about?”
She blinks,“Your first love, she was an Uchiha wasn’t she? I’m sorry I didn’t mean-”
“What gave you that idea?”
She blinks up at him. Even after all these years there are some insecurities she can’t shake off. It this habit of hers that bothers him the most, maybe because every time she displays her unsurity about their relationship Sasuke is overcome with a tidal wave of self loathing for he knows that all her insecurities stem from the fact that he’d treated her like crap through out the course of their childhood.
“I just thought-” she sighs breaking off,“Never mind.
“Tch. Annoying.”
She lowers her head,“You’re right that was a stupid.”
He lets his lips curve into a small smile, amused by her reaction. For some reason he never gets tired seeing her like this; embarrassed and shy.
It’s one of the more contrasting things about his wife because while she’s one of the strongest people he knows, nothing less than deadly in battle, she’s also one of the kindest. As a kid he never believed one could be both, strong and kind but in the past fifteen years of their marriage Sakura has spent everyday of it proving him wrong.
While she’s kind to everyone she meets, this side of her, the one where she’s shy and unsure is reserved only for Sasuke and he isn’t ashamed to admit that, that’s just how he likes it.
And that’s why he loves teasing her at times like these because he’s the only one who can and get away with it.
“Who was your first love?“ He asks nonchalantly.
Sakura looks up at him incredulously.
“What?” She asks,“ Is this a joke?”
Sasuke simply shrugs as he turns away from her to add the finishing touches to his dish.
Her eyes are defiant as she pokes her head into his line of sight,“I’ve loved you since we were five years old I’ll have you know. It might have been a superficial crush at first but I’ve only ever liked you.”
“Only me?” Sasuke says as he pours the contents into a bowl,“That’s hard to believe.”
Her eyes narrow,“If not you, then who? It’s only ever been you.”
“Not even Lee when he saved you during the Chunnin exams?”
“No.” She replies,“And if you recall I hugged you then and not him.”
“Not even Naruto when you kissed him?”
“That was CPR by the way.” She counters,“And you kissed him too. Twice.”
“Kakashi?”
“Are you kidding me?” She started,“That’s ridiculous.”
“Sai?”
“Where are these names even coming from?” She huffs,“ This is-”
Before she can finish, Sasuke quickly bends down and brushes his lips against hers shocking her into silence. It’s an awfully short kiss and when Sasuke pulls back he smiles as he looks down at his wife’s closed eyes and puckered lips.
“For the record you were the first and only person I’ve ever loved.” Sasuke states.
Her eyes flutter open and she stares at him confused for a moment before her mouth forms an ‘oh’. Then her questions begin,“Really? How? When? I thoug-”
“Sakura.” He cuts her off giving her a look.
“Right. I’ll shut up.”
“Good, then it’s easier to do this.” He leans down and kisses her again. The tips of his fingers graze against her skin as he cups her cheeks and lifts her face towards him his lips moving against hers effortlessly.
While Sasuke is a reserved man, there is absolutely nothing reserved about his kisses.
Sakura still remembers the first time Sasuke had kissed her she’d felt all her unsurity about their relationship melt away. While his kisses are commanding, they’re all consuming and absolutely and completely honest. He leaves no room for her to doubt his feelings for her because the way he kisses her always makes her feel like he’s laying his soul bare for her to see. Only her to see.
Because in the end for both Sasuke and Sakura it had only ever been each other since the very begining.
Sakura is about to wrap her arms around his neck and pull him closer to deepen their kiss but Sasuke abruptly breaks away once again leaving her hanging.
Sakura pouts as Sasuke starts walking towards the living room. She can’t see the smirk on his face but she knows that he’s thoroughly enjoying messing with her.
“You don’t play fair.” She grumbles as she follows Sasuke.
He sits on the couch and gently pats his lap. Sakura happily bounds towards him, her complains forgotten and takes her place on the couch by lying across it with her head resting on his lap.
They stay like that for a while as Sasuke reads a scroll regarding the latest details of his mission and Sakura stares up at him carefully memorizing all the details of his face for she knows that when he’s gone it’s these moments she’ll cherish the most.
“You know we both married each other’s first love.” Sakura comments offhandedly,“Do you think Sarada will do the same?”
“The brat won’t live long enough.”
Sakura snorts,“You’re not going to kill him, Naruto will never let you hear the end of it if you do.”
“I can handle the dobe.”
“You’ve been trying to get rid of him for eighteen years now, how’s that working out for you?”
“Tch.”
“If you actually consider it, it’s kind of cute really.” Sakura continues,“Naruto and Hinata’s son with our daughter. Plus Sarada is really open about her feelings too. I thought she’d be like you and be in denial about it for at least five years.”
“I was not in denial about it.”
“If I was your first love that means you must have loved me since we were genin, right?” Sakura prompts,“And you were pretty much an ice cube those days.”
“I wasn’t in denial, I just didn’t show it.”
“So you were in love with me since we were genin.”
“Sakura.”
“Okay fine, I’ll drop it.” Sakura relents,“So anyway today I heard her and Choucho talking about Boruto and that’s how I gussed. They were fawning over how his blonde hair catches the sun rays perfectly and-”
Change of plans, Sasuke was going to first torture the brat and then kill him.
“- just how mature and responsible he is-”
When did he brat become mature and responsible? Just the other day he remembered his daughter complaining how childish and careless the dobe’s son was.
“- how his blue eyes pop perfectly against his white clothes and-”
Sakura stopped abruptly when she saw the look on Sasuke’s face.
“What’s wrong?“she asks lifting herself up from his lap and turning around to face him properly.
“The brat kid only wears black.” Sasuke deadpans,“His training clothes are black and pink.”
“Then…..” Sakura trails off as realisation dawns on her.
For a moment they stare at each other, green against mismatched black and purple.
The next second Sakura is up and Sasuke is right behind her, heading for the door.
“I’m going to kill the dobe.” He mutters poisonously as he opens the door.
Sakura brushes past him,“Not if I get to him first.”
All the way across town in the Hokage’s office, Naruto sneezed. ______
I’ll be honest I really want to see Sasuke appear in the Hokage’s office with his apron and matching headband and beat the hell out of Naruto with his stirring spoon.

70' prompt for SasuSaku ✨❤
Drunk and Married
~*~
“Fuck!”
“Shh, just act normal.”
Sasuke glared at Sakura then. Act normal? She really wanted him to act normal… The last thing he’d expected for the night was to find blue lights surrounding them and just when he was so close to-
Earlier that night-
It was Naruto’s birthday. Of course Hinata had gone all out throwing a huge party for her husband, and everyone was there. The alcohol was limitless and everyone had a great time, though Naruto wasn’t a drinker, and he’d ended up being carried to bed long before the actual party was over.
Sasuke had a few drinks when he and Sakura had first arrived, but being that she was downing the drinks like they were going out of style, he’d long since quit drinking so he could drive them home safely.
No way in hell was he staying the night at Naruto’s with all those people. Plus, he really wanted to get Sakura home. She was drunk as fuck, and when she had alcohol in her system, Kami did she know how to work him… in all the right ways.
For the past hour she’d been giving him suggestive looks, brushing up on him purposely and even whispering naughty things in his ears. He was so worked up by then that he wasn’t sure how they’d ever make it home.
When his wife was drunk, she always had a way of making him crazy.
There were no boundaries.
That’s what led him to grabbing her drunk ass up over his shoulder and carrying her out of Naruto’s place without a word. She was laughing the whole time while going on and on about his ass as he walked. Sasuke would have normally found such a thing annoying, but he rather loved his drunk wife, and all her annoying antics.
“Oooh, Sasuke-kun. You’re being such a man! I was just having some fun, why are we leaving?” Sakura giggled.
“You know why.” Sasuke grumbled, just as he reached his car. He opened the door and leaned down to place her inside carefully. “Buckle up.” He ordered, narrowed obsidian eyes on her wide emeralds that stared up at him from her seat heatedly.
He glared at her then before stepping back and slamming the door. If she kept looking at him like that, there was no way they’d ever make it home. She was doing it on purpose. He knew she was.
Once he was behind the wheel, he started the car and glanced at her. He eyed her meaningfully until she buckled her seatbelt as he’d told her too. She huffed as she did, but did so none the less.
Sasuke got on the road, all too eager to make it home. His grip on the steering wheel was so tight his knuckles were white and his mind was far from the road. He was ignoring her presence in the car well-enough. But she’d been working him up all night and therefore, all he could see was her naked as the day she was born and sprawled on their bed, eager to have him.
It was when he seatbelt came off a moment later that he glanced at her in annoyance. “Sakura!” He pushed her back into her seat as she went about crawling over the console. “What the fuck?! I’m driving.”
“Stop being such a mean ass.” Sakura groaned, still leaning over close to him and not bothering to buckle back up.
“Soon as we get home I’ll show you a mean ass.”
“Hmm.” She reached towards him, her hand casually rubbing across his chest. He glared at her, eyebrow arching when he noticed the sadistic smirk on her face.
“Sakura.” He called her name in warning, while pulling her hand away from his body and pushing her back once more. “I’m not fucking around.”
“I like fucking around…” She murmured seductively, biting her finger.
Sasuke cursed under his breath and forced himself to ignore her and keep his eyes on the road. She obviously didn’t care about their well being at all. He knew this for a fact when she snuck her hand over to get a feel of his leg, her hand roaming from his knee to his thigh. He flinched the instant she came in contact with his length, which was already hard and ready.
“Ooh, Sasuke-kun.” She purred, her hand wrapping around him through his jeans then.
“Fucking stop!” Sasuke groaned, nearly running off the road as he pried her hand away from him. She had no idea what she was doing to him.
Sakura pouted then, he rolled his eyes when he gazed over at her and noticed this.
“Stop being like that. If you stop distracting me we can get home, and the sooner we get home, the sooner I can fuck you.”
“Mmm. But… I don’t think I can wait any longer.”
“Oh ye-” Sasuke jumped in his seat when she grabbed a hold of him again. He slammed on the breaks and forced her back into her seat and buckled her himself. “Godammit, Sakura! Stop it already.”
“You stop it.” She stuck her tongue out at him as he shook his head and went back to driving. “I don’t know why I can’t touch you just a little bit…”
“Because, I’d like to make it home. Wouldn’t you?”
“Eventually, yes.” Sakura agreed, her hand coming over to feel up his arm, across his back and up into his hair.
Sasuke’s eyes threatened to close as she massaged his head and at this point, he didn’t know what the fuck to do with her. Her nails raked down the back of his neck and he shuddered before glaring at her once more. “The fuck are you doing?” He glared harshly at her as she went about removing her seatbelt once again.
“Shh. Stop being such a pain in the ass. Just drive. Let me play.”
“We’re gonna wreck.”
“Not if you drive right.” Sakura argued as she reached for him once more, but this time, Sasuke didn’t stop her.
However, when she went about undoing his belt clumsily, he grabbed a hold of her hand. “No way in hell.”
“Just drive, damn it!” Sakura growled, slapped his hand away and proceeded to get into his jeans.
Sasuke glared at the road ahead, trying hard to think about anything other than Sakura and the way she was touching him so skillfully. The way her hand was so soft against his cock. Fuck, he couldn’t think about anything else.
“Sa-” He groaned when her mouth suddenly closed around him, the road completely forgotten as his head lolled back against the seat. “Fuck.”
By some miracle, he pulled himself together in enough time to prevent any accidents but he knew if he didn’t pull over now, they’d be in a ditch long before they made it home. The road was deserted, and so it seemed safe enough to pull over and cut the engine and deal with his current situation. Mainly his annoying wife who was just as horny as him.
“What happened?” Sakura sat up and asked when the car had come to an abrupt stop.
“Don’t ask questions.” He muttered after taking his seatbelt off and shoving his jeans and boxers down his legs.
Sakura’s brows raised in interest and she licked her lips as she stared at his erection. Sasuke took his shirt off next and tossed it in the backseat.
“Get naked.” He told her then, not missing the was she shivered at his words. She wasted no time though in hurrying to remove her panties from under her dress.
Once Sasuke had his seat as far back as it would go, he didn’t wait for her to remove her dress, he grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. Sakura straddled his waist immediately, groaning the instant his cock was positioned against her entrance. Sasuke cursed, unable to believe how soaked she was, how easily he’d slipped between her folds just before she slammed herself down on him, taking him to the hilt with one swift move.
“Oh fuck!” He hissed, arms wrapping around her tiny waist and holding her tight to him.
She moaned loudly at his ear, nails digging into his shoulders as her cunt fluttered around his throbbing cock. Neither of them moved for several beats, until finally Sasuke’s hands grabbed at her ass and forced her up and then back down on him again.
Sakura whimpered as she started to move herself, her lips against his ear, her hot breath giving him endless cold chills every time she exhaled. He gripped her hips roughly when she took his earlobe between her teeth. She moved effortlessly, and with such precision that Sasuke was all too lost in the sensation of it all.
Even after a year of marriage, numerous fucks and more than enough experience, she was still so tight he could barely handle it. She was always so wet and ready for him, but more so whenever alcohol was involved and Sasuke fucking loved it. His favorite place in the world to be was buried deep inside his wife. But when she was like this, he was on cloud nine.
Her lips trailed down his neck, kissing and suckling. Her teeth scraped against him and she nipped on his neck lightly. Her fingers dug into his thick hair, tugging gently, all while she rocked her hips continuously. Before he knew it, he was on the verge of climax, every muscle he owned grew taut and a deep groan rumbled in his throat. His hands tightened on her hips when she stopped suddenly, too suddenly. He was so close.
“Fuck! Shit!”
Sakura went to scrambling off of him so quickly, he didn’t know what to think. “What the fuck, are you hurt?”
“It’s the cops!” Sakura shrieked, while straightening her dress and frantically smoothing out her hair.
Sasuke glanced through his rearview mirror, barely making out the look of blue lights flashing behind him through the fogged up windows. “Fuck!” He growled, going soft instantaneously as he hurriedly pulled his pants up and secured them in place.
“Shh, just act normal.” Sakura said just as a knock sounded on the driver window which was far too fogged to make anyone out.
“This is your fucking fault.” Sasuke snapped before turning the key to roll down the window.
Said cop was grinning quite wickedly at him as he came into view and Sasuke couldn’t help but glare at him.
“You kids out hiding from your parents?” He teased and Sasuke’s fists clenched in his lap.
Before he could lose it, Sakura interjected. “No, actually we’re married.”
“Oh?” The cop seemed even more amused then, he even laughed. “Well that’s interesting. I’ll need to see your license and registration.”
Sasuke gave Sakura a cold glare as he went about digging out his wallet. If she had only listened to him, they would have been home safely by then and fucking without issue. Yet, here they were, interrupted on the side of the road, by a cop no less.
After handing over the requested information Sasuke glared straight ahead, arms crossed over his naked chest as the cop went back to his car.
He was pissed.
“Relax, this is actually pretty funny.” Sakura giggled.
“No the fuck it’s not.” He growled.
He’d been so close, just right there and fuck… now the whole night was ruined.
As he brooded over this turn of events silently, the cop returned and handed back his license and registration.
“I’m guessing I’ve ruined your fun enough for the night.” Was the cop’s smug remark. Sasuke’s jaw tensed but he said nothing, wisely. “Go on home, do what you want there. Not here on the side of the road.”
“Thanks officer!” Sakura waved to him as Sasuke stared the car and rolled his window up without another word.
“You’re so fucking annoying.”
“Shut up and hurry home, I’m not done with you yet.”
Sasuke just shook his head. He really had no idea what he was going to do with her, but he knew he had to get home sooner rather than later. She owed him big time for this.

What it means to be a father
Summary: Sasuke explains to Sarada why he didn’t see her in the past 8 years.
P.S: This takes place on the chance that the group had to sleep outside the village after Sakura was saved cause it was getting late and the kids were tired.
‘‘What’s wrong?’‘
He was leaning on a tree, his wife’s head resting on his shoulder, his arm around her resting body when he noticed the flap of the tent open to reveal his daughter.
‘‘Emm, I couldn’t sleep.’‘ she said, she was fidgeting, which was a tell tale sign that she was still nervous around him, and he can’t blame her, since he raised his sword at her and that’s something that he will add to the list of things he did to harm his loved ones.
Sasuke remembered that he still doesn’t know why his daughter showed up in the first place, he understood that he thought Karin is her mother, but that’s too silly, so he resolved to talk to her about it.
‘‘Do you want to take a walk?’‘
‘‘Yeah, yeah sure.’‘
Sarada watched as her father awkwardly, but so very gently, maneuvered her mother so she was leaning on the tree comfortably.
Sarada smiled a little at her father’s gentleness, her mother once told her, after much nagging from the girl’s part, that her father is a man of actions and that he couldn’t form appropriate words easily.
‘‘Come on.’‘ he said as he walked in front of her, and she followed.
They walked in silence for a while Sarada suspected it’s because he didn’t want to wake up her mother, uncle and chou-chou, who she suspected wouldn’t wake up even if they were talking on top of her
He stopped abruptly and turned towards her, staring her right in the eye.
Sarada thought she’d be intimated if he stared at her like that, but how can she be scared if all she can see in his eyes is love and something else that’s bordering on shame.
‘‘Sarada.’‘ he said as he leaned down to her height, eyes still meeting her own.
‘‘Papa’‘
‘‘I’m sorry.’‘
‘‘Huh?’‘
‘‘For raising my sword at you and for living eight years of your life without a father.’‘
‘‘Papa it;’s okay’‘ No it wasn’t, cause she still felt a little bit of hate towards him, but she knew there is no point in expressing it and that she should enjoy her father’s company, a company she craved since she was 8.
‘‘No, you need to understand, I grew up without both parents and I thought that you’ll be fine with just your mother, but I was wrong and selfish.’‘
‘‘Selfish?’‘
‘‘If I saw you in the times I would come back to relay a message to your mother, I know it would hurt me ,and you, and that you will eventually come to hate me if you already don’t, but what I wanna say is that I did what I thought was the best for you, maybe I was wrong, no I was wrong and I want you to know that I love you.’‘
‘‘Papa’‘ Sarada felt all the hate she harbored a minute ago fade and it was replaced by understanding, her father suffered too and if he did visit her during his short visits to konoha he would have done more harm than good.
Sarada got a little teary eyed so Sasuke raised his hand and wiped the tear from under Sarada’s eye, his hand stayed on her cheek , his thumb still under her eye.
‘‘You look like your mother.’‘
‘‘No I don’t.’‘ that was what started this whole fiasco.
‘‘Your cheeks, your eyelashes, the form of your eye ,your big forehead.’‘
‘‘Hey!’‘
‘‘You act like her too, you have a hair trigger temper, kind, silly, annoying.’‘
‘‘Papa!’‘ she tried to act annoyed but she failed, which was made apparent by the small twitch of her lip.
‘‘And brave, so brave.’‘
He put his hand on her head and ruffled her already messy hair and Sarada felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time, fatherly pride.
‘‘Stop it papa, I already got your chicken butt hair!’’
Sasuke freezed for a second upon hearing the old nickname, there was a time in their travels when Sakura would call Sasuke duckbutt, or chicken butt, much to his annoyance, but he supposes he started it when he called her pinkie.
And of course she would tell Sarada about that, annoying women
The tall man put his hand on her shoulder again.
‘‘You okay?’‘
‘‘Yeah.’‘ she said a smile surfacing at her father’s concern.
‘‘Good, now come on Sara.’‘
Sara, Sara, Sarada repeated in head, she was remembering something suddenly remembering something , something that was buried in the deepest part of her memory.
‘‘Papa can we get icecream?’‘
‘‘You’ll spoil your dinner Sara.’‘
‘‘But please.’‘
‘‘How about we get it after dinner.’‘
‘‘OKay!’‘
‘‘Go and play now Sara.’‘
‘‘Thank you papa!’‘
‘’Someone is happy.’‘
Sakura said upon noticing her smiling daughter and her husband come from the behind the trees.
A thought suddenly struck Sarada upon seeing her mother.
‘‘I’m grounded aren’’t I?’‘ she asked
Sakura’s smile widened.’
‘‘Yeah and you’ll be helping me clean my library.’‘
Sasuke pitied his daughter cause he’s seen Sakura’s library, it took them a whole day just to move her books from her apartment to their home when they were newlyweds.
‘‘Mama’‘ Sarada whined.
‘‘Don’t mama me, now come here and help me up.’‘
Sarada grumbled, but walked to her mother and extended her hand, expecting to pull her up, not to be pushed down.
‘‘Mama!’‘ Sarada said, trying not to giggle as her mother’s arms wrapped around her and squeezed.
‘‘Too hard mama.’‘
Sakura loosened her grip on her only daughter, who rolled of her mother to lie next to her, but Sakura’s arms were still around her.’‘
‘‘Mama you can’t do that I’m too old for that kind of thing!’‘
‘’I don’t care if you’re gray haired, you will always be my cute little dork.’‘
‘‘stop it shanaroo!!’‘ the girl screeched as she looked at her father who was smirking.
‘‘Don’t shanaroo me shanaroo!‘‘
this time Sarada surrendered to her laughter, and Sasuke realized that it’s the first time he heard that beautiful melody since 8 years.
Sakura cupped her daughters face in her hands .
‘‘You silly, silly girl thinking I wasn’t your mother.’‘
‘‘That was kinda stupid.’‘
‘‘Kinda?’‘
‘‘Nobody has a big forehead like me except you.’‘
‘‘Sarada!’‘
Sarada started laughing again and Sakura joined her.
Sasuke’s heart melted at the scene, but sorrow will always follow him.
To see all this and then have to let it go, it makes Sasuke’s heart twist painfully’
The world is cruel, but, he thought as he heard his daughters and wife’s conjoined laughter, it’s worth it, if he could protect those smiles he’ll go through the pain he is feeling now a thousand times more, cause that’s what it means to be a ninja, that’s what it means to be a husband and, most importantly, that’s what it means to be a father.

SasuSaku Month - Day 12: Lights Out, Words Gone || [Fanfic] Storm (Part II)
Title: Storm (Part II)
Rating: K+/PG
Notes: Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience. As I told you yesterday, things came up in RL and could not write to my heart’s content. Furthermore, this chapter has given me quite a few problems and I had to rewrite some parts once and again till I was satisfied.
As always, if you find something strange, please, tell me ^^ I hope you enjoy this second part :)
Words: 6257
.
STORM (PART II)
They arrived at Sasuke's house more than half an hour later due to the heavy traffic that filled the streets and some detours they had to take when the police officers asked them to. Sakura could perceive he was clearly annoyed by the situation and did not know how to feel about it. If it had not been for her, maybe he would have arrived earlier. By that time he could have been comfortably watching television at home. Or sleeping, as Naruto had said.
After one last turn, he entered the private car park under the building and took the lift to reach the floor where his flat was. When the doors opened, he turned left and she followed as fast as she could. He seemed to be in a hurry. He stopped at one of the three apartments in the corridor and unlocked the door. Then, he motioned her to enter.
“Sorry for the intrusion...”
She stepped into the hall and stood there as he took out his shoes and entered the house.
“Come on” he urged her. “I'll get you to the bathroom.”
“But, I'm dripping.... if you could give me a towel first...” he frowned, not really understanding why she was so reluctant to go in. “And you'd need to have a shower too.”
“I can wait. You, on the other hand, with that drenched kimono are bound to catch pneumonia if you don't get warm soon.”
She still did not seem convinced and stayed where she was.
“Do you want your grandmother to kill me for not taking good care of you?” he asked her in an irritated voice, putting a hand on his hip. That seemed to make her react.
“L-Lets do something...” she said, her teeth starting to chatter. “While I-I change, you can shower. It'll take me at least ten minutes to take it off...” she looked at him with widened eyes. “Please...”
He sighed, annoyed, but in the end complied to her wishes, understanding that it was the only way to convince her to do as he said. He guided her to his bedroom, at the end of the long corridor that had been on their right when they went in, and took a bathrobe from his wardrobe, giving it to her. Then, he took a few clothes for himself and closed the sliding door.
“I'll knock when I finish. You can put this on after you undress.”
He went to the entrance and shut the door behind him. Sakura stood there for a moment feeling a bit shy, before a shiver run down her spine and she hurried to put the bathrobe in her hands on top of a nearby cupboard and started to take off her clothes which were not as damp as before since Sasuke had turned on the heating system of the car during the journey. She started taking all the garments of the obi as she removed the pads and cords needed to keep the complicated knot in place. Then, with utmost care, she took off the cords that closed the furisode and the garment itself. It was a family heirloom from the beginning of the previous century, and she hoped that the specialists that took care of her family kimono collection could return the old silk back to its previous state. Looking around and not seeing a place where she could put or hang it, she crouched and, touching the wooden floor lightly making sure that it was perfectly clean, she spread it slowly. After she had made sure every single part was perfectly smoothed out, she took the last pads and cords and took off her under kimono. Her undergarments were slightly damp but they were not uncomfortable, so she decided to keep them on. She downed the bathrobe, sighing with pleasure at the soft warmth it gave her.
After she finished extending everything on the floor, she looked around the bedroom, not being able to contain her curiosity. It was a big, scarcely furnished and full of contrast. The walls were painted in white but the furniture was black. There was a full-length mirror opposite the door and a bed on her right with two bedside tables on each side. Opposite it, there was a low cupboard with a television on top and next to it, the built-in wardrobe from which he had taken the clothes. She wandered around, taking a look at the pictures on the wall, and then looked out of the window splattered with water drops. From there, she could see the grey landscape the city had turned in. She went back to her kimono and touched it again. Then, she put her hands behind her and rocked on her feet a few times, putting her arms behind her. Even though she was tired, she was feeling a bit wary of sitting on the bed. It seemed a very intimate gesture and she felt like an intruder who had broken into his most private world... She exhaled and walked slowly around the room again. If only he came soon...
.
The heat was soothing on his skin. Sasuke put his hands on the shower wall and let the water fall over his back, easing the tension in his shoulders. Sakura had been right, he needed that. He opened his eyes slowly. He was starting to question if bringing her there had been the correct decision. It had been a spur of the moment, seeing her in such pitiful state, but he had not stopped to consider that what he saw as an innocent gesture, others could read something else, like in the films that his sister-in-law liked so much. And that precisely was the last thing in his mind. Apart from her being someone from an important family that was not convenient to anger, their circumstances were not similar to those of a normal couple. Were they even one? For their families surely not, at least until an engagement was sealed. For him... it was more like a partnership. They enjoyed each other's company as they pleased those around them, and a the same time, gained some freedom from the expectations placed on them. Whatever her feelings toward that situation were, he had yet to know.
He sighed and closed his lids again, turning and combing his hair back under the water one last time. The best thing, maybe, was to face the situation as naturally as possible. He closed the tap and immediately, a faint chill made him tremble. Picking up the towel he had left in the hanger by the door, he put it around his waist and pressed a few buttons on a panel above the bath to start filling it with hot water for when Sakura entered. Then, he came out of the shower.
.
She had finally given into her tiredness and had sat down on the edge at the feet of the bed when he knocked on the door and she sprang to her feet.
“You can go in now. It's the second door on the right. I'll leave some clothes for you in the changing room. Take your time, alright?”
And before she could thank him, she heard his footsteps move away along the corridor.
She opened the door a bit. The aisle was totally empty so, she went inside the bathroom hastily and closed the door. The room was still a bit warm from the shower he had taken and she blushed at the thought of him there. She shook her head quickly to dispel if from her mind and feel even more embarrassed than she was at being almost naked in a bathroom that was not her own, and started to take out the pins that held in place her hair. Soon, her locks fell down her back and shoulders. Then, she picked up the belt around her waist and pulled, untying the bathrobe. She could not help feeling nervous as she discarded the last pieces of clothing, being in a foreign house, and quickly entered the bathing area.
Then, she looked briefly at her reflection in the small mirror hanging on the wall in front of the stool as she sat down. She was a disaster. Her make up had almost disappeared, the only trace a long trail of mascara down her cheek, and though her hairstyle had withstood, the locks that went down her back now were lifeless and matted. What a sight to show to her prospective husband...
Husband... It was a word that she still did not like too much. Even though she had dreamt of it since she had been little, in that moment its meaning was not as dreamy as she had fantasised. In her current situation, it meant an obligation and expectatives, doing what was correct. Despite the fact that she had started to have deep feelings for Sasuke, she was still not sure if she wanted him as her husband. In their case, marriage was something too serious, it was a commitment for life, because, in their world, people did not divorce under any circumstance. How much gossip had she heard at events and parties about couples that seemed amiable but hated each other with a passion? Who kept lovers on each side? And definitely, that was not what she wanted for her life. Despite the bond that they seemed to have, Sasuke and she did not know each other at all yet, and she was afraid of making a decision based on feelings that could eventually fade and her sense of duty.
After finishing her washing and showering, she put her wet hair in a messy bun and entered the hot bath, feeling her cool skin prickle at the contact with the water. However, she started to relax soon.
Once at ease, her mind went back to the topic. It was also true, though, that she knew many married people who, after meeting at an omiai, had fallen madly in love with each other, like one of her cousins and her friend from the kickboxing lessons, Tenten, or had learnt to love their partner dearly, like her grandmother.
She pulled her knees to her chest and leant her chin on them.
Maybe being married to him was not so bad. If he returned her feelings at least a little, maybe they could be happy. However, she had to find what was in his heart first. And though she had overheard a snip of the conversation between Sasuke and Naruto related to their dating period and the limit of three months, she was willing to extend it the time they needed. The pace of their relationship was already forced because of the circumstances and the people who surrounded them. She was not going to pressure him or herself and end up making the wrong decision.
With a sigh, Sakura came back from her musings and she realised she had been there enough time to make her fingertips wrinkly. If she did not come out soon, Sasuke could start thinking that something had happened to her. She put her hands on the edges of the bath and stood up. He had left a big towel by the door and she dried herself with energetic and quick movements before coming out.
As he had said, she found some clothes on top of the wash basin cupboard, a clean dark blue T-shirt with a big uchiwa fan in the front, that made her laugh a little, grey sports trousers and a black sweatshirt with a zipper and a hood, and the logo of Waseda University on the back. Also, he had left another set of towels for her to use.
She dried her hair with one of them and dressed quickly. As she had expected, the clothes were too big for her, and the arms and legs were completely covered by fabric. With a huff, she folded the extra fabric, finding her feet and hands again. Turning to the mirror, she was pleasantly surprised when she found a comb, a toothbrush and a tube of tooth paste. She traced the comb with a finger, smiling softly. So, he was thoughtful regarding the little details too...
After combing her hair in a low ponytail that hung over her shoulder and checking her appearance once more, she went into the corridor and stopped when she reached the living room. Sasuke was in the kitchen with his back to her, preparing something on the cooker, and for a moment, hiding in the shadows of the corner, she observed him. His short hair that he usually combed back and stood at its ends at the back, was down and brushed his nape, still a bit damp. He had a towel around his neck to prevent the water from seeping into his clothes, which were very similar to what she was wearing. She felt a soft tingling of excitement at the back of her neck and could not help smiling for a moment before berating herself.
'You're such a child...'
.
“Thank you for letting me use the bathroom.”
He turned to her and studied her for a moment before nodding and going back to what he was doing. She stepped into the room not knowing very well what to do. Sit? Go to the kitchen? Maybe that was the correct thing.
“Sit down” he said pointing to the dining table in the living room. “I'm just finishing.”
She nodded, even though he could not see her, and went there. The living room was big and scarcely furnished as well. There was a sofa in the middle of the room opposite the enormous television that was set on a low cupboard, and a low glass table between them over which there were some folded newspapers. In the background, there was a large window with purple curtains open through which she could see the rain still falling heavily and the blurry lights of the nearby buildings. The table that she was sitting at was just in front of the masonry bar which separated the living room from the kitchen. Sasuke finished whatever he was doing and circled the bar carrying two cups and two spoons in his hands. He put one of each in front of her as he took a sip from his drink.
“Here, this will warm you.”
The cup was filled to the brim with steamy hot chocolate whose sweet aroma filled her nostrils. She looked at him as he sat beside her, at the head of the table and set his on the wooden surface.
“You're drinking chocolate too?”
He looked at her puzzled.
“Yes, why wouldn't I? I prefer it to coffee in the afternoon when I'm not working”
“I don't know... Maybe because I don't see you as a person who likes sweets.”
“And I don't” he put his cup on the table in front of her. “Taste it.”
“It's not neces-” she started to say waving one of her hands in front of her nervously, a faint colour covering her cheeks, but he interrupted her. “Do it.”
Hesitant, she put the tip of her spoon in his drink and then in her mouth. Immediately, she made a face.
“So bitter...”
She immediately took a bit of her own to get rid of the taste in her mouth, and he smirked a bit.
“It's a special brand of powder made of pure cocoa.”
She made a sound of acknowledgement, still taking small sips of the hot beverage to avoid burning her tongue.
“This is good” she commented looking at her cup.
Sasuke was opening his mouth to answer when her smartphone, on top of the low table, started to ring and Sakura looked at it puzzled, standing up.
“I took the liberty of taking it out of the bag” he said. “You forgot to do it.”
She picked it up and looked at the screen, surprised to see an incoming video call.
“Grandmother?” she murmured softly, and Sasuke looked at her.
She pressed the button and Chiyo appeared on the screen, looking past the telephone, sitting formally at a low table in the dining room of the main house. Then, she looked at the screen.
“Ah, so this works after all” she commented.
Her father appeared behind her and made a small sign of apology before going out of the room.
“Grandmother, what...? Why are you calling me?”
Sakura returned to the table and sat down, looking at Sasuke, who was drinking from his chocolate, apparently uninterested.
“I wanted to know how my granddaughter was, is that inconvenient?”
“Of course not, I didn't mean that... But, a video call?”
“So?” Chiyo asked ignoring her question.
“I'm fine” she put both arms on the table and held her phone at a distance. “Mum probably told you that the storm caught us by surprise after having lunch and that there had been an accident, so Sasuke-kun decided to bring us here so we could dry ourselves” she bit her lip softly. “The furisode was drenched... Sorry, grandmother” she finished with a small bow.
“Don't worry about that” her voice was a bit warmer than before. “Masuko-san will probably be able to fix it and leave it as new. It's not the first time an old kimono gets wet”
Sakura nodded, a bit relieved and then, she saw her grandmother look to one side and then, the other.
“So, where's Sasuke-san?”
She looked at him, who left the spoon in the cup, and then tilted the phone so he could see her too.
He bowed politely.
“Good evening, Haruno-san. How are you?”
“I'm fine, thank you” the woman nodded her head. “Thank you for letting my granddaughter stay at your house.”
Sakura observed them as they had such formal conversation. He was explaining Chiyo about the car crash and the circumstances that made him decide to bring her to his house. And she noticed that there was a small crease between his brows and that his posture had become a bit stiffer than before. The air around him had changed too, as if he was not relaxed anymore. As if he was on the defensive. Something she did not like moved inside her.
“I'm planning to take her home as soon as the rain subsides, no matter the time, though...” he was saying as he bowed a bit. “I hope you don't mind that she spends the night here in case it doesn't happen.”
“Well,” her grandmother had pressed her lips and Sakura knew that she was not very happy with the suggestion. “I suppose that if it's necessary, I'll have to leave her in your care...”
“You don't have to worry about anything.”
“I'll be fine” she cut in the conversation, feeling it was time for her to lift the tension between them. “I'll be home in no time, and I'll make sure that I don't fall ill” she showed her her cup. “I've taken a long bath, I'm wearing dry clothes and now I'm drinking something hot” she smiled. “And you know I have a robust health.”
“That's true... Well, I hope that you're right. Both of you are very busy people and cant' afford to get sick.”
“We know.”
Chiyo looked around for a moment, frowning, and then stared at them again.
“Your father has gone... As if I knew how to use one of this modern things...” she grumbled. “How do I end this?”
Sakura tried to suppress an amused smile.
“Just press the red button on the screen, like in your telephone.”
“Alright” they saw her stretch her hand toward them. “Sasuke-san, give my regards to your parents, please.”
He nodded and the call ended. Sakura sighed and left the device on the table, putting her hands around her cup.
“Don't mind her, Sasuke-kun” she looked at him. “She sometimes overreacts a bit in certain situations.”
His only response was a nod before taking another sip of his hot chocolate.
.
Soon after finishing their drinks and chatting about trivial matters for a while, Sasuke suggested starting making dinner, although it was still a bit early. He stood up and picked up both cups, carrying them to the sink, and Sakura decided to take a look at the state of her clothes and turn the kimono around, so it could dry properly.
When she came back, Sasuke had taken out some fish and prawns from the fridge. He had finished peeling the seafood and was starting with the fish. Also, he had put a fruit bowl with tomatoes near him. She could not help a quiet giggle as she saw he was wearing an apron with a print of little snakes. Trying to compose a neutral face, she entered the kitchen.
“Let me help you.”
“Sit down, you're a guest” he replied without taking his sight from his task.
“But I can't be sitting while you do all the work. Please, let me do something”
He stopped then, and looked at her with his brows knitted.
“Do you know how to cook?”
“I learnt in Home Economics at school, though nothing very complicated, I must confess...”
He sighed a bit annoyed.
“Fine” he opened a drawer on his left and took out an apron. “Put this on and start cutting the tomatoes for the salad.”
Sakura smiled, taking the orange apron and put it on, smiling a bit seeing the small picture of a fox with nine tails on the front.
“It was a present from the idiot.”
Sakura looked at him confused.
“Id-? Oh, you mean Hinata-san's husband...”
“Yes” he picked up the knife again and continued cutting the fish in fillets.
She giggled a bit, seeing his exaggerated scowl and then grabbed the first tomato and put it under the water in the sink.
Sasuke stole a glance at Sakura as he picked up another piece of fish from the plate. She had started humming and had a little content smile on her lips as she arranged the slices on a big dish. It was soothing having her around. He had always lived alone in that flat and though he occasionally received a visit, it was the first time he let someone take care of the housework. And he liked the experience.
“Is this the seasoning for the salad, Sasuke-kun?” she asked, pointing at the different glass jars filled with salt and soy sauce among other things that were near her on the counter.
“Yes.”
He finished cutting the fish and cleaned his hands in the sink. Then, he started to prepare the batter for it and the prawns.
When he finished, Sasuke washed his hands and went to the living room to turn on the television. The forecast programme appeared on the screen and he called Sakura. They watched together as bits of videos showed different places affected by the storm. They explained that though it had been expected that it rained in the afternoon, the violence of the discharge was not, and a series of graphics showing how cold air currents in the upper layers of the atmosphere had collided with warmer ascending ones forming the dark clouds that now covered the centre east of the island. They predicted that it would subside on the early hours of the morning and have completely stopped by sunrise.
“Your grandmother must be really happy now...” he said in a flat tone of voice, and Sakura nodded once, slowly, thinking exactly the same.
When the programme finished, they went back to the kitchen and, as Sasuke fried the fish and the prawns, she set the table and finished seasoning the salad before carrying the dish to the living room.
They sat down and watched the news as they ate, since Sasuke had turned the television toward them, giving their opinions from time to time about some of the topics that were mentioned by the news anchors.
Sakura insisted on doing the dishes after dinner, and in the end, Sasuke had to comply. While he was watching the sports, he heard the sound of plates and pans being washed and felt strangely comfortable with the homely atmosphere that had invaded his flat. The fleeting idea of having her there every day crossed his mind, but he shook his head, not really wanting to go deep into that topic yet. Probably what Naruto had said about considering the idea had something to do with that. And, as he had answered him, it was still soon. He breathed deeply before turning to her.
“Do you usually watch something at night?” she paused while drying her hands in a cloth and looked at him.
“Sometimes, why?”
“To change to that channel. At this time I'm always at the office or having dinner with clients, so I hardly ever follow any series or programmes.”
“I watch the Friday night drama with my mother and my grandmother, and some celebrities variety shows.”
“Is there any on today?”
“No, so we can watch whatever you find interesting.”
She went to the living room and nodded respectfully before sitting down near him. In the end, he found an old film about samurai and they watched it together. It was past eleven o'clock when it finished, and Sasuke turned to the window. It was still raining heavily, and inwardly, he sighed relieved. He was tired and sleepy, and he did not feel like driving her all the way to her house and back.
He stood up, turning off the television, and suppressed a yawn.
“We shouldn't have stayed so late” she gazed at him concerned. “You look exhausted.”
“The film was quite exciting” she half closed her lids and he felt the need continue the sentence. “Otherwise, I'd have fallen asleep in the middle of it.”
She rose from her seat too and bent to pick up her smartphone from the low table.
“Alri-”
“Oh,” he said suddenly, interrupting her, his face showing a somewhat discontent expression. “I forgot to change the sheets” he sighed wearily. “Better do it now...”
She tilted her head, confused.
“Is it really necessary?”
“Of course” he eyed her as he circled the sofa. “You're not going to sleep under used covers.”
“No way!”
He looked at her, surprised at her outburst. She was looking at him with knitted brows and her arms crossed across her chest.
“I'm not going to throw you out of your bedroom, Sasuke-kun.”
“But-”
“No.”
He frowned.
“You're my guest.”
“I'm an intruder” her green eyes glinted. “Even though you were tired from the New Year ceremonies with your family, you went out with me and got drenched the same. I'm not going to make you sleep in a spare bedroom or the sofa just because I had to come here.”
She breathed deeply and after a few seconds of staring at each other, he sighed, annoyed.
“Fine” he conceded, and she smiled widely. “But don't get too used to win arguments” he looked at her with half closed lids. “I'm tired and this is pointless.”
Sakura kept her satisfied expression for one more moment and he huffed.
“Do you need anything?” he asked making his way to the kitchen.
“Just a glass of water, please” she followed him and stopped by his side as he picked up two from a cupboard and filled them.
In that moment, a specially loud thunder made them jolt and at the same time, the lights of the flat went out.
“Don't move” Sasuke instructed her, leaving the glasses on the sink.
Slowly, sliding his hand along the counter as he walked, he made his way to the kitchen door. He found the switch and pressed it a few times.
“I'm going to check other rooms but it seems like a power outage. It's dark outside too.”
Sakura moved restlessly in the darkness, hearing the rustle of his clothes and the noise of the switches in the back of the house. It was true that once a sense failed, the others heightened, and she had never liked the feeling of over awareness that came with that.
Then, his footsteps became louder and louder, signalling his return. Something touched her hand on the counter, and a gasp escaped her lips, realising at the same time that he was the one who had touched her. Suddenly, she was conscious of the warmth irradiating from somewhere by her, and could not help feeling flustered when she realised that it had to be his body.
“Sorry...” his low voice sounded near her head, and she shook hers, though he could not see her, feeling goosebumps in her arm.
His fingers suddenly left her and the heat disappeared too. He probably had taken a step backwards, and Sakura suddenly felt alone in the intense darkness.
“There must be a torch in one of the drawers on your right, could you get it?” the words reached her ears again a bit farther this time.
Putting her other hand on the counter to avoid losing her attachment to the physical world in the darkness, she slid her hand along the cupboard until she touched a handle.
“Try the second or the third. The first one has the cutlery and you can hurt yourself.”
She did as told and a few minutes later she touched what seemed a flashlight.
“I think I got it.”
She felt it and found a button. When she pressed it, a flash of light appeared.
“Good!”
“It's better if you keep it. I know the house and it's easier for me to move around. And I have my phone” he said pointing to the living room, where both devices were.
“Okay.”
They went out to the kitchen.
“Are you still sure that you don't want to use my bedroom?”
She shook her head.
“I am.”
He nodded and, picking up his phone, he disappeared in the corridor, her voice reminding him of her clothes extended on the floor of his bedroom, and came back a few minutes later with a blanket and a pillow, which he put on the sofa.
“Then...”
“Sasuke-kun” she interrupted him, her expression a bit embarrassed. “Would you mind if I move the sofa?” he looked at her puzzled. “I'm used to falling asleep looking at the window, and I feel restless if I don't.”
“I don't” then, he went to the seat and positioned himself on one side. Sakura left the torch on the table and moved to the other, and in a few seconds, they had put it facing the window.
“Is it fine like this?”
“Yes, thank you.”
He nodded and then, closed the curtains.
“Then, good night” he turned to her and nodded politely before starting his way back to his bedroom.
“Goodnight...”
.
Two hours later, Sasuke opened his eyes slowly. He turned his head and looked at the time in his smartphone, sighing tiredly. He had managed to get some sleep, but it had been restless, mainly because of the noise outside. He turned on his right side and in that moment, the flash of lightning reflected in the ceiling, slipping through the upper part of the thick curtains. A thunder sounded outside and he turned to look at the window over his shoulder.
He sat up and switched on the lamp on his bedside table, but it did not work, and he remembered that there had been a power outage. Sighing again, he touched the screen of his phone and realised that, with the sudden blackout, he had forgotten his glass of water in the kitchen. Throwing the covers back, he stood up and picked up his robe from the foot of the bed. He went to the kitchen with the help of the light of the screen, not wanting to turn on the torch to avoid waking Sakura up. Picking up his glass from the sink, he drank a few sips before filling it again. He turned briefly to the living room at the same time lightning flashed outside, surprisingly filling the room with brightness, and he saw her lithe figure outlined in the light. She was sitting on the sofa, watching the city through the portion of the window she had uncovered. So, she was awake too...
“You can't sleep?”
She startled and looked at him, who had approached the sofa quietly.
“Oh, sorry, I didn't hear you, Sasuke-kun...”
“And I didn't realise you hadn't noticed me. I apologise...”
She shook her head with a soft smile.
“I was just... not thinking...”
He looked at her, surprised for a moment. Then, he smiled briefly, tiredly, as he took a seat next to her.
“I'd need some of that.”
She smiled for a moment and then, turned again to the window. He propped an elbow on the back of the sofa and rested his head on his hand, watching the elements outside. There were some buildings in the background where the light had been reestablished, and in that moment, the street lamps near the building flickered for a few seconds and lit.
It was easy to think about what had been in his mind for the last weeks in the darkness of that silent room, everything that he had been delaying because his company was failing and he could not distract from his objectives. And he knew that the ones who had triggered that had been his brother and Naruto with their questions and their prying in his business.
He had known that there had been something special between Sakura and him since the moment he had seen the photo. That little feeling of familiarity, the memory of happy childhood moments had been what had compelled her to meet her. However, a part of him had hated everything that that encounter had implied because it meant letting himself be manipulated by his family and remember the power that they had over his life and decisions. He was ready to reject her, to make her reject him. But he had found himself unexpectedly drawn to her, to her manners and her attitude, to her little gestures... And he had not been able to choose his freedom.
He looked at her serene profile and though he tried to be subtle, she seemed to perceive his glance, because she turned and regarded him with her big clear eyes. They were like two pools of dark silver in the semi-darkness, filled with questions and, deep inside a longing that called him.
He lifted his hand and brushed softly her cheek. It was like the touch of a butterfly and she leant imperceptibly against it. Her lips parted slightly and his pupils, completely black and unreadable, flew to them in a brief glance.
To hell with arranged marriages, dating periods and expectations of the family. In that moment, there were only her and him in that dark room and nothing outside that world existed anymore. And he realised in that precise moment, when he discarded all the labels that they all had given to their relationship, that he loved her, the woman of strong convictions and lovely smiles who thought of others before herself and had a streak of stubbornness hidden under her gentleness. The woman who now was before him.
“Sakura...”
It was the first time he had said her name since they had met, and that single word, uttered in a soft murmur, had resounded deep inside him, making his heart beat stronger against his chest. She had realised too, since she suddenly held her breath, her eyes widening and her cheeks becoming dark in the faint light. The sight was too much to resist, and he leant forward.
The first kiss was a soft brush of his lips on hers, probing, giving her the opportunity to reject him, but she did not do it. Opening his eyes slightly, he looked at her for a brief second, imprinting in his mind her closed lids and her soft expression, and then closed them, kissing her again, this time more firmly. The arm resting on the back of the sofa went around her shoulders, bringing her to him, and she leant forward, putting her hands on the seat for support. His thumb traced her cheek, setting on her jaw as his lips moved over hers slowly, coaxing an answer from her but never trespassing the limit of a chaste seduction. Not until she told him her true feelings.
With a soft sound, they separated gently, and Sasuke basked in her red cheeks and how her eyes opened slowly to look at him for a moment, clouded and filled with a warm light that not even the shadows of the room could hide. Then, he kissed her forehead, feeling her hide her face in the curve of his neck, and breathed deeply enjoying the fragrance of his shampoo in her hair, something that awoke a warm feeling in his chest that spread to every corner of his body.
It was something sweet that he did not dislike.
