touch headcanon

is Hel touch-repulsed? no, not exactly.

mostly she feels nothing except for the realisation of contact, which is the issue in her opinion. everyone around her feels the warmth and pleasantness of touch. since forever Helena had always felt pleasure only at the suggestive caressing which implies more will follow.

hugs, pecks, patting her hair, massages, holding hands and/stroking skin... it does nothing for her. she is simply aware of the action happening.

she assumes that perhaps a specific combination of factors might lead to her experiencing that feeling of closeness and connection people refer to.

to this day she isn't sure if that's what she'd felt with Albert Hughes. he wasn't very touchy himself and she actually used telepathy with the man, so that experiment doesn't count. with Isabelle she had a more physical relationship. if she ever felt anything, it may have gotten lost and went unnoticed amidst the passion.

what she doesn't like about people touching her is that they don't ask, they assume she'd enjoy it... and it's a strong reminder that she experiences not a smidge of what the other one does and demands of her in return. she can't amend it, that's why she prefers not to do touchy things unless it's necessary.

the perks of this being: she actually can allow a person she dislikes to touch her if the job demands it. she can power through it, because where there is no strong attraction there is no strong aversion too. her awareness of the touch doesn't equal physical displeasure. the lack of desire to allow people to touch her is predominantly in her head. in a way, it bugs her that she can't benefit!

the more prepared she is to the idea of touch, the more indifferent and tolerant she is toward it.
