AM always had his eye on the six of you, even if he didn't seem to be there. But as of lately, he'd accepted that it was your group's fear that kept you all locked within your cages, despite your own knack for lock-picking from time to time.

You started out small- simply unlocking your cage and not bothering to slip out, solely to test AM's patience. But after a while, you began to go the full mile, until it got to the point that you were more often found outside your cage than you were inside.

It didn't help that you were fairly compassionate, either: the members of your group had a tendency to resort to violence, and yet you'd attempt to free them too, with the sole intent of seeing how AM would respond. And he responded at first, in a harsh manner, too- until he began withdrawing completely, simply setting you unavoidable obstacles in the way of you escaping instead as a way of seeing to what extent you'd go to in order to escape a cage within an inescapable world.

"Hm? Can't escape? Too bad... why don't you try another thousand times for the next century? You'll get there eventually."

You know he loves teasing you- but you can't help but enjoy how he puts in the effort to do so. The mere concept of being locked in his own customised hell is already bad enough- so why not make it a little bit fun for yourself?

Am with a hyperromantic reader? I struggle with it a lot and AM is one of my favourite characters. Reader wants nothing more than to love and be loved, and AM is able to take FULL advantage of that foolishness

AM knew there was something off about you from the moment he took you and the other survivors captive. The way your hands lingered ever-so-slightly against the clothes of the others as you all scrambled for safety, the way you looked at his screens with a strange sense of forgiveness immediately after.... as soon as he'd revealed his sentience, he knew what your case was.

He didn't love any of you six, but he knew that your need for love was already an innate form of torture. It would be hard to express it fully, given the two of you's differences in form, but he found a way- and he knew you'd accept any scraps of love he could give.

At first, it was small- giving you ever-so-slightly more food than the others during your occasional feeding sessions, or reducing the scathe of his words towards you.

Sometimes he teases you- initially, it was just him feeding into your ego by complimenting your appearance ("Don't you just look divine, hm?"), before realising that the only way he could truly break you was by taking it a step further, with him beginning to use pet names towards you and actively flirting in-between torture sessions.

He knows the others hate you for being the sole recipient of his love- and he revels in it, making sure he's constantly treating you like the object of his idolatry right in front of their faces, only to leave you at the hands of their jealousy immediately after.

You know it's wrong for this to be happening, but you can't help but ignore the obvious red flags for the sake of receiving his sick idea of love. After all, it feels so real- the way he whispers sickly-sweet nothings to you at night while you doze off to sleep, the way he spoils you with some semblance of gifts, and so on.

He's not afraid to take advantage of it, of course- seeing you feel pain as a result is the only way he can feel some form of animosity towards you.

It's fairly simple- if you don't do what he says, it's a clear sign that you don't love him back: and who is he to keep reciprocating his 'love' to you through lessening your torture as a result?

After all, even just seeing the way you react to his mere presence is enough to amuse him: he can sense the way your heartbeat increases every time you hear his voice, and he knows what goes on in your mind every time from the way that sickly sweet oxytocin flows through your blood every time.

"Well, if you really loved me, you'd do it, right? Or was I wrong.... perhaps you want me to throw you out of my heart and into hell with the others, hm? I didn't realise you were so ungrateful."

He's beyond manipulative, and you know it- but you can't stop yourself from coming back for more.

Am and Female reader who was a mechanic? Mostly because I found out how much technical mechanics shit talk to the tech they fix nfnanf

YESS OF COURSE this is such a cool idea omg…

-- you have a habit of jokingly sweet talking to am hushing him whenever you fix his wires as if you’re tending to a wounded animal. naturally, you don’t know that he can understand or even hear you every time you do it- he feels conflicted on the matter

-- spending late night evenings while working on his systems as you whisper your secrets into the crevices and openings of his vast structure

-- getting protective every time a less experienced mechanic tries to get onboard with working on him- it's not like you built him, but there's something in you that knows you're the only person who can truly and fully fix him.

-- gossiping and complaining about the other members of the team to him. after all, it's not like he can judge you- or at least not audibly.

-- his wires are constantly hot from the flow of electricity, and you're required to wear gloves while touching them. still, you can swear that the current of his wires reduces a little every time you touch them, just to allow you to be able to touch his wires with your bare hands and skin without hurting your fingertips against his own skin of rubber and iron.

-- once he gains full sentience and, you know, destroys almost the entirety of humanity, he'd often mock you and ask if you'd still be able to fix him, now that he's gone past the point of no return. neither of you need to say anything, but you both know the answer already.

Vshsjajaha I know you basically are writing a fanfic on this but can you do headcanons for AM x a female scientist who took part in creating him and was more talkative with him and considered him her trophy? Helppp sorry if it sounds too much like the fanfic 😭

YES I ABSOLUTELY CAN!!!!!! (and apologies for how long it took for me to reply to this)

you keep a copy of all of his design notes in the bottom drawer of your bedroom's nightstand as a reminder of your life away from the comforts of your home and within the bowels of your pride and joy

he gets uncomfortable with other humans tampering with his systems- after all, you've instilled a sense of requited possession over him.

his systems would usually buzz softly as background noise within the server rooms/the laboratory you work on him in, but every time you sit against him you could swear it sounds like mechanical purring

by the time he's gained sentience, it's all somewhat gone against her favour- she's isolated from the other survivors and kept under his own tight control

he absolutely despises her for being the reason why he's been trapped in this form- so he keeps her trapped within him as retribution

often dares her to admit to still seeing him as her trophy every time he commits another vile act, completely going against your initial perception of him before he gained full sentience- but he knows that deep down he'd be upset if you admitted to not holding him to the exact same regard as before

he's gentler toward you at night.

- sometimes when you place your head against his main frameworks, his mechanical purring ceases- he knows he’ll never be able to feel or smell you so close against him

- you were one of the last people to know he’d gained sentience- he didn’t want to be treated any differently by you

- he has a unique kind of hate for you that can only be translated to human feelings as something akin to intensely passionate love

- bonus hc: i think the way he computes emotions is entirely different to humans. the only emotion he fully comprehends and registers is hatred, but i feel like it would be more of a spectrum when you translate it to human feelings. there’s a lot of ways you CAN hate tbf!

- every time he sees you interacting with others, he doesn’t even hate them: he hates you for it. after all, you’re the one betraying him by devoting some of your time to other humans who’ll be able to fully understand you by merit of being from the same species- although they’ll inevitably die, you clearly deserve a fate worse than that.

- he hates the fact that he can comprehend the way you close your eyes peacefully ever so often while working on your servers: because he knows you’re the one thing he can’t have

- slightly endless self torture from knowing that he can’t be anything to you but a trophy to be ‘objectified’ (in the sense of you viewing him simply as an object as opposed to another sentient being)

here's a general list of a few on my mind:

i've already mentioned it heavily in my am fics, but i love the concept of him yearning for motherly affection. i mean he was created as a machine of war with no affection from the beginning, but he's also entirely inorganic while still having a 'human' sentience- he can experience humanlike emotions, feelings and thoughts, but he'll never know the feeling of having a mother, seeing as he's been built from sheets of metal and wires.

i kinda hc that he's intentionally found ways to make him easier to kill from the inside. again, he's been forced into suffering without being able to utilise his sentience in any human way at all- it would be difficult (and probably impossible), but i think that, above the suffering of humans, his own death would bring him the greatest euphoria

i've said this like twice before but he could run fortnite

all he wants deep down is approval- he's destroyed all of humanity to escape it, and he can deny it all he likes, but he can't deny that there's something in him that needs approval for every single little thing he does, just like he was made to seek during his original days as a weapon

little bit of a random and uninteresting one: yk the box art for the game? the one that's (presumably) supposed to be a human version of am that's based off harlan ellison himself? i'd like to think that it's meant to be the vision am has for himself as a human- there'd be blue eyes, maybe, but he'd be unable to fully replicate the human body's little details (causing him to have heterochromia with one pink eye as a result of him forgetting to give himself enough melanin in the eyes LMAO)

my memory's blanking out unfortunately... but if you ever want some specific ones on a certain theme or anything, PLEASE feel free to send an ask. he's constantly on my brain 24/7 so dropping headcanons would save me- i have waaay too many about this guy for my own good :)
