assorted thoughts on ep 134, written as i listen. im so unwell about this show rn
martin having to correct himself from archival assistant :(((
ADELARD DEKKER???
wait wait wait WAIT! A FIFTEEENTH??????? A FIF TEENTH?
the extinction is TERRIFYING. nuclear winter.
so interested in what gertrude had to say about this considering jon was never taught about it. and then why is peter lukas so intent on teaching martin about it????
The Mother of Puppets is a SICK ASS name for a ritual holy shit?? Terminus too but the Web is so sketchy lmao
but WHY wouldn’t the eye want to stop the extinction??? or is peter lucas just so intent on it?? and how would the avatar of the eye be a participant in stopping it
and martin coming to peter lukas after the flesh attacked?????? WHY specifically
”Like a grubby jesus” show has comedic chops too i love it when they just bust out a hilarious line
MARTIN was stacking tape recorders on the coffin????? i thought they just appeared,, holy shit. okay.
”we’re you compel” peter not being able to comprend that martin did it of his own free will because he CARES. or he knows that martin cares and it’s his goal to STOP that.
he’s for SURE worried about jon, even though he says he isn’t, and knowing if jon could compel martin EVEN THROUGH the influence of the buried would be incredibly important to know. he’s working WITH the eye, but i don’t know if i trust The Lonely to work with anyone for any extended period of time.
#fizz listens to tma#ep 134#these posts are jumping to analysis faster now#because i’m SO into it now and i care SO much about these characters atp#putting this in the tags because it isn’t really episode relevant but it IS#but i really like how the show’s exploring/using martin’s long-developed crush on jon#it really does feel so intentional not in conveying some sort of future romantic connection between them#but it’s using it as a vessel for horror which is TERRIFYING#like martin’s connection to jon (and his care for the archive to a lesser extent#feels like a source for manipulation#and it leans into the web i feel#this twisting of his care for another person#esp since we NOW as listeners are seeing jon change from actively avoiding interaction with martin#and describing him as a nuicance#to ACTUALLY saying TO HIS FACE that he misses him#i as an audience member feel kind of??? manipulated when listening to their dynamic#because it’s always one-sided in one way or another#or either party is so desperate for connection or safety#i LOVE their relationship but i don’t think i want it to continue as a romantic connection#if that makes sense#i dont know#i’m curious to hear how esp martin’s side of it is explored#and again#i just#i LOVE jon so so much#every time i think about it i feel a little ill but he cares SO MUCH for the archive staff#his FRIENDS that hes finally decided to TRUST#that are all pulling away from him in some way or another#even when he tried to help (daisy)#or when he didn’t have time to fix anything before it was too late (tim)

technically, the newest page could have just been a gif, but i preferred the idea of letting readers view the light-speed lines for as long as they wanted
Tumblr media
i also didn't know that, in AS2 at least, you could export gifs with movie clips and it would just. work kinda?
there's some very obvious visual glitches due to actionscript not running (gif exports in flash ignore any and all AS) but the fact that movie clips play at all is insane to me. i love working in animate 2020 for 6 months until i get fed up with it because it's ANIMATE UGHH

Eddie is jerking off, +18
As the darkness enveloped him, Eddie's eyelids fluttered open, his pupils adjusting slowly to the faint moonlight that seeped through the curtains. He lay there for a moment, his mind foggy and disoriented, trying to recall what had woken him from his restless slumber. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the soft hum of the air conditioner in the corner of his room.
Eddie's hand instinctively reached down to rub away the lingering sleepiness from his eyes. As he did so, his fingers brushed against something else - a hardness that seemed out of place among the tangled sheets. His gaze drifted downward, following the path of his hand until it came to rest on his own erect cock.
A slow smile spread across Eddie's face as he felt a familiar thrill coursing through him. It was an old habit, one he'd developed during his teenage years when sleepless nights and repressed desires had driven him to seek solace in the quiet darkness. He didn't bother to turn on the light; instead, he let his eyes adjust further, drinking in the dimly lit contours of his own body.
His hand closed around his cock, feeling its smooth texture as it responded eagerly to his touch. Eddie's breath quickened as he began to stroke himself lazily, the sensation sending shivers down his spine. The room seemed to fade away, replaced by a world of pure sensation - every nerve ending attuned to the gentle pressure and release of pleasure.
His fingers danced across the sensitive skin, tracing the ridges and valleys like a mapmaker charting unexplored territory. The softness of his palm contrasted with the rigid length of his dick, creating an intoxicating mix of textures that left him breathless.
His thumb brushed against the swollen head, sending sparks flying through his nervous system. He squeezed gently, coaxing out a bead of precum that glistened like dew on a spider's web. The salty sweetness filled his nostrils as he inhaled deeply, savoring the primal scent that was uniquely his own.
His cock responded eagerly to each pass, swelling further with each downward glide before releasing its pent-up tension with a soft hiss.
As he pumped himself faster, the friction generated by his hand created a symphony of sensations - velvety smooth skin giving way to ridged flesh, each stroke building upon the last to create an unstoppable momentum. Eddie's eyes rolled back in his head as he succumbed to the pleasure coursing through him.
His breath came in ragged gasps, each exhale punctuated by tiny tremors that ran from crown to base. Sweat beaded on his brow, mingling with precum as it dripped down onto his stomach like tears shed for lost innocence.
In the moments leading up to his orgasm, Eddie's world narrowed to a single point - the sensation of his cock throbbing in time with his heartbeat. The room receded further into darkness, leaving only this one moment, this one feeling that was both fleeting and eternal.
As Eddie's climax crested, his hand moved in frantic circles around his cock, milking every last drop of pleasure from the swollen flesh. The air seemed to vibrate with tension as he approached the precipice, his body coiled like a spring ready to unleash its pent-up energy.
And then it happened - a burst of white-hot semen that erupted from the tip of his dick like a geyser unleashed by some ancient geological force. The first jet shot across the room, splattering against the wall with a wet smack before dripping down onto the carpet like molten lava.
Eddie's eyes snapped open as he felt himself being emptied out, each pulse sending shockwaves through his entire body. His mouth hung agape as he watched in rapt fascination as stream after stream of cum arced through the air, painting an abstract masterpiece on the walls and ceiling.
The room seemed to spin around him, a kaleidoscope of color and sound as his orgasm raged on. His hand continued to pump himself, milking every last drop from the spent cock until it finally subsided into exhausted stillness.
As the final droplets fell away, Eddie lay there for a moment, his chest heaving with ragged breaths as he gazed up at the ceiling in stunned silence. The cum-stained walls seemed to loom over him like sentinels guarding some ancient secret, their sticky residue a testament to the primal power that had just been unleashed within him.

Defunct ME1 Website Codex Entries
In the interest of preserving rare documents related to Mass Effect, I'm transcribing here the Codex entries which were on the ME1 website when the game first came out. They are reproduced here as they form much of the basis by which we understand Mass Effect ; in some cases, they are phrased differently from the Codex in the actual game, with additional information, or contradictions (e.g. the given length of the Krogan Rebellions). Link here : https://web.archive.org/web/20130326112139/http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/galacticcodex/index.html
Each Codex entry comes in two parts : the "lede" on the starting Codex page, and the entry itself. In an archiving interest, associated polls are included, though they do not represent anything more than the intended market's opinions prior to the game's release. Everything is quoted verbatim, though I have done some formatting modifications for ease of reading.
Note : since this was very much part of the promotion for ME1, the intended audience is clearly human, but it's difficult at times to see if it's an in-universe "we" or an IRL "we". The polls, however, are clearly out-of-universe.

The Advent of Humanity on the Galactic Stage
In the decades since our first encounter with the greater galactic community, humanity has risen quickly to prominence, establishing colonies throughout the stars. However, our population growth and military strength have led to resentful speculation that an invitation to join the ranks of the Council itself is imminent. [Read More]
The Advent of Humanity on the Galactic Stage
In the year 2148, humanity discovered Prothean ruins on Mars. The remnants of Prothean technology scattered amongst these ruins allowed them to develop mass effect fields and faster-than-light travel. This led them to discover and reactivate the mass relay at the edges of Earth's solar system, giving them access to the mass relay network spanning the rest of the galaxy and bringing them into contact with the greater galactic community.
2148 AD : Humanity discovers a small cache of highly advanced alien technology hidden deep beneath the surface of Mars. Building on the remnants of this long extinct race - known as the Protheans - humanity quickly masters the science of mass effect fields, leading to the development of faster than light travel.
2149 AD : Spreading out through their own solar system, humanity discovers that Charon, Pluto's moon, is actually a massive piece of dormant Prothean technology - a mass relay - encased in ice.
Once activated, humanity discovers that the mass relay allows instantaneous travel across thousands of light years to a synchronized mass relay in another part of the galaxy.
There they discover several more dormant relays. Over the next decade humanity expands rapidly, establishing colonies and activating dormant relays to open up more and more unexplored regions of space.
2155 AD : To defend its rapidly expanding empire, humanity assembles a massive fleet and constructs an enormous military space station at the nexus of several key mass relays…even though they have yet to encounter another intelligent space-faring species.
2157 AD : Humanity makes first contact with another space-faring culture: the turians. Unfortunately, the encounter is far from peaceful. Over the next several months a brief but tense conflict known on Earth as the First Contact war ensues.
This conflict draws the attention of the Citadel Council - a multi-species government body that maintains peace and stability throughout the known galaxy. The Council intervenes before hostilities escalate further, revealing the existence of the greater galactic community to humanity and brokering a peace between them and the turians.
2165 AD : Humanity continues to expand, founding more colonies and establishing trade alliances with many of the other species who recognize the authority of the Citadel Council. In 2165 the Council makes official recognition of humanity's growing power and influence in the galactic community. Humanity is granted an embassy on the Citadel, the political and economic heart of the galaxy.
2183 AD : Commander Shepard - a promising young officer in the Human Alliance military - is assigned to the crew of the Normandy, the most advanced prototype vessel ever designed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Turians: Friend or Foe?
We fought these raptor-like aliens in the First Contact War, but have since settled into an uneasy co-existence with them. Despite their code of honour, discipline, and work ethic, the question remains whether these Council members are friends or foes. [Read codex entry]
Citadel Council Race: Turians
The turians were the last of the Citadel races to join the Council. Their features are avian, making them resemble humanoid birds or raptors. They have a reputation for skill and bravery in combat, but they are not known to be bloodthirsty. A rigid code of honor and strict discipline are the hallmarks of any turian officer. This includes humane treatment of prisoners and conquered enemies. A turian patrol unit will never willingly leave behind one of their own, no matter what the cost of saving them.
Turian society is highly regimented and very organized, and the species is known for its strict discipline and work ethic. Turians are willing to do what needs to be done, and they always follow through. They are not easily spurred to violence, but when conflict is inevitable, they only understand a concept of "total war." They do not believe in skirmishes or small scale battles; they use massive fleets and numbers to defeat an adversary so completely that they remove any threat of having to fight the same opponent more than once. They do not exterminate their enemy, but so completely devastate their military that the enemy has no choice but to become a colony of the turians.
Other species see them as "men of action," and they are generally regarded as the most progressive of the Citadel races. Since their culture is based on the structure of a military hierarchy, changes and advances accepted by the leadership are quickly adopted by the rest of society with minimal resistance.
WEB POLL : Turians are an honourable and disciplined race. Why do you think humanity warred with them immediately after first contact in the year 2157?
There was a misunderstanding that blew out of proportion - 64%
They feared our potential and saw us as competitors - 23%
They probably always attack first to probe for weaknesses - 11%
They wanted the planet Earth and our colonies for themselves - 3%

[The website proceeds to try to set up a dilemma as to whether the turians can be trusted by connecting first to Nihlus's Codex entry - the "Friend" - then Saren's - the "Foe".]

Spotlight on the Krogan Race
Explore the reptilian race known as the Krogan. Part one reveals how their harsh and unforgiving homeworld has affected their evolution. Part two delves into their tragic history and waning foothold in the galaxy. The final part spotlights Urdnot Wrex, one of the last krogan Battle Masters. [Read more]
Krogan Series Part 1 - Krogan Biology
The krogan are a species of large reptilian bipeds native to the planet Tuchanka, a world known for its harsh environments, scarce resources, and overabundance of vicious predators. The krogan managed to not only survive on their unforgiving homeworld, but actually thrived in the extreme conditions. Unfortunately, as krogan society became more technologically advanced so did their weaponry.
Four thousand years ago, at the dawn of the krogan nuclear age, battles to claim the small pockets of territory capable of sustaining life escalated into full scale global war. Weapons of mass destruction were unleashed, transforming Tuchanka into a radioactive wasteland.
Due to the brutality of their surroundings, natural selection has played a significant role in the evolution of the species. Krogan reproduce and mature at an astonishing rate. Their large shoulder humps store fluids and nutrients, enabling them to survive extended periods without food or water. Their thick hides are virtually impervious to cuts, scrapes or contusions, and they are highly resistant to toxins, radiation, and extreme heat and cold.
Biotic individuals are rare, though those who do possess the talent typically have strong abilities. Their most amazing physiological features are the multiple instances of major organs; these secondary systems are capable of serving as back-ups in the event of damage to the primary biological structures. This redundancy makes them difficult to kill or incapacitate in normal combat scenarios.
WEB POLL : What do you think is the most interesting part of krogan biology?
Redundant organs - 50%
Rapid reproduction and growth rate - 21%
Thick hides impervious to many dangers - 16%
Large shoulder humps that store fluids and nutrients - 14%

Krogan Series Part 2 - Rise and Fall of the Krogan
Roughly 2000 years ago the krogan were a primitive tribal species trapped on a world suffering through a nuclear winter of their own making. They were liberated by the salarians, who "culturally uplifted" the krogan by giving them advanced technology and relocating them to a planet not cursed with lethal levels of radiation, toxins, or deadly predators.
But the salarian intervention was not without an ulterior motive. At the time, the Citadel was engaged in a prolonged galactic war with the rachni, a race of intelligent space-faring insects. The salarians hoped the krogan would join the Citadel forces as soldiers to stand against an otherwise unstoppable foe. The plan worked to perfection: within two generations the rapidly breeding krogan had the numbers to not only drive the advancing rachni back, but pursue them to their home worlds and eradicate the entire species.
Saviors of the Galaxy
For a brief period the krogan were hailed as the saviors of the galaxy. However, without the harsh conditions of Tuchanka to keep their numbers in check, their population exploded. Overcrowded and running out of resources on their new home planet, the krogan spread out to forcibly claim other worlds...worlds already inhabited by races loyal to the Citadel.
The so-called Krogan Rebellions continued for nearly three centuries. The krogan sustained massive casualties, but their incredible birth-rate kept their population steadily increasing. Victory seemed inevitable. In desperation, the Council turned to the recently discovered Turian Empire for aid. The turians unleashed the genophage on the krogan home worlds: a terrifying bio-weapon engineered by the salarians. The genophage caused near total infant mortality in the krogan species, with only 1 birth in every 1000 producing live offspring.
The Genophage
No longer able to replenish their numbers, the krogan were forced to accept the turian terms of surrender. For their role in quelling the Krogan Rebellions the turians were rewarded with a seat on the Citadel Council. The krogan, on the other hand, still suffer from the incurable effects of the genophage. Over the last millennium krogan numbers have steadily declined, leaving them a scattered and dying people. Faced with the certainty of their extinction as a species, most krogan have become individualistic and completely self-interested. They typically serve as mercenaries for hire to the highest bidder, though many still resent and despise the Citadel races who condemned them to their tragic fate.
WEB POLL : Was use of the genophage on the krogan justified?
Yes, it was necessary to stop the krogan from taking over the galaxy - 53%
No, it was cruel and should not have been used - 42%
Other - read my comments - 6%

The Quarians - Galactic Nomads
A nomadic race of humanoid aliens, the quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. They dress in a scavenged assortment of materials, hiding their faces behind visors, goggles, or breathing masks. Some believe the quarians are cybernetic, a blend of machine and biology that can survive for a time in the cold vacuum of space. Others believe the quarians are simply so used to living on their substandard, makeshift ships that they never remove their survival suits.
Three hundred years ago the quarians created the geth, a species of rudimentary AIs, to serve as an efficient source of manual labor. But the geth rebelled against their quarian masters and drove them into exile. Now the quarians wander the galaxy in a flotilla of salvaged ships, secondhand vessels, and recycled technology. Other species tend to look down on the quarians, seeing them as scavengers and condemning them for unleashing a dangerous synthetic life form on the rest of the galaxy.

Geth: Universally Violent Creatures
Residing in the Terminus Systems, the geth are a humanoid race of networked AIs who overthrew their masters 300 years ago in a brutal war. They have evolved since then into numerous sub-forms, and everyone in the galaxy approaches them with extreme caution. [Read more]
Hostile Entity: the Geth
The geth are a bi-pedal, humanoid race of networked AIs that resides in the Terminus Systems. The geth were created nearly 300 years ago by the quarians as laborers and tools of war. When the geth began to question their masters, the quarians attempted to exterminate them. The geth won the resulting war. The example of the geth has led to legal, systematic repression of artificial intelligences in galactic society.
The geth can learn and grow intellectually, but they progress far more slowly than an organic being. Still, the story of the geth's creation and evolution serves as a warning to the rest of the galaxy of the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence.
The closer geth physically are to each other, the more intelligent each one becomes. Effectively, they "share" brain power. An individual geth has only a basic intelligence on par with animal instincts, but in groups they can reason, analyze situations, and use tactics as well as any of the organic races.
Over time the geth have evolved into numerous sub-forms - from the diminutive but highly agile hoppers, to the gigantic, lumbering geth armatures. It should be stressed, however, that in all forms the geth are to be approached with extreme caution as they are universally violent creatures.
WEB POLL : The geth are out of control and feared throughout the galaxy. What will you do the first time you encounter a geth?

The Batarians, From Bring Down the Sky
Debuting in the Bring Down the Sky downloable content pack, the batarians are a disreputable species infesting the Terminus Systems and menacing human colonies. [Read more]
The Batarians - A New Race in Bring Down the Sky
A race of four-eyed bipeds, the batarians are a disreputable species that chose to isolate itself from the rest of the galaxy. The Terminus Systems are infested with batarian pirate gangs and slaving rings, fueling the stereotype of the batarian thug. It should be noted that these criminals do not represent average citizens, who are forbidden to leave batarian space by their omnipresent and paranoid government.
In 2171, humans began to colonize the Skyllian Verge, a region the batarians were already actively settling. The batarians asked the Citadel Council to intervene and declare the Verge an area of "batarian interest." When the Council refused, the batarians severed diplomatic and economic relations, becoming an inward-looking rogue state. Money and weapons funneled from the batarian government to criminal organizations led to many brutal raids on human colonies in the Verge, culminating in the Skyllian Blitz of 2176.
The rest of the galaxy views the batarians as an ignorable problem. The government is still hostile to the Systems Alliance, but beneath the notice of the powerful Council races. It is not known what the average batarian thinks about their enforced isolation, as the Department of Information Control ensures that only government-approved news enters or leaves batarian space.

Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams
Williams is a reliable and dedicated officer, but her aggressive instincts and blunt speech might lead to complications should she be required to interact with civilians. [Read more]
Systems Alliance Profile: Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams
Personnel File
Name: Ashley Madeline Williams Rank: Gunnery Chief Military Vocational Code: B4 Current Posting: 2nd Frontier Division, Eden Prime
Date of Birth: April 14, 2158 Place of Birth: Vercingetorix Outpost, Planet Sirona, 61 Ursae Majoris System Blood Type: B-positive
Genetic Enhancements:
In-utero vision correction (maternal predisposition for nearsightedness)
Class-B Alliance Infantry Upgrade Package
Dossier
Following family tradition, Chief Williams enlisted in the Alliance Marines directly out of high school and was assigned to the Recruit Training Depot in Macapá, Brazil.
During training, she certified proficient with the standard-issue M7 Lancer assault rifle and light and standard weight combat hardsuits. She completed certification in zero-gee combat aboard the Rakesh Sharma Orbital Platform in Earth geosynchronous orbit. For Hostile Environment Assault Training, she was assigned to Fort Charles Upham on Saturn's moon, Titan. She was awarded a commendation for her bold assault technique in a field exercise simulating an attack on turian point defense emplacements.
Drill Instructor Gunnery Chief Ellison noted her steadfast endurance and aggressive instincts, and promoted her to the role of squad leader. After observing her effective tutelage of the less skilled members of her training unit, he promoted her to platoon guide. She maintains a friendly correspondence with DI Ellison.
Chief Williams has served in a number of ground force garrisons on Alliance colony worlds and industrial outposts. She has repeatedly requested transfer to a shipboard posting, but each request has been denied without comment by her superiors.
Every year since enlistment, she has used her mandatory week of leave to visit her family on Amaterasu. In 2181, she made an exceptional request for a week-long leave of absence from her posting at the Czarnobóg Fleet Depot, citing family issues.
Personal Observations
Chief Williams' platoon has logged unanimous positive feedback on her leadership in the recent fitness review cycle. Private Nirali Bahtia praised her focus on team-building exercises and "tough but fair" discipline.
Williams is a reliable and dedicated noncommissioned officer, but her service in rear-area garrisons has prevented her from gaining actual combat experience. Her aggressive instincts and tendency to speak bluntly are suitable for a field unit, but might lead to complications if her duties require her to interact with civilians. Additionally, her political opinions may be problematic, given the focus on improving relations with the Citadel.
WEB POLL : Ashley is part of your party as you carry out Spectre missions. Do you think her inexperience, bluntness, and aggressive tendencies will pose a problem?

Systems Alliance Profile: Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams - Profile Updated
From: Ashley Williams ([email protected]) Sent: June 17, 2183 22:03 UT To: Sarah Williams ([email protected]) Subject: Re: Hey sis
James left today. He's been reassigned to one of the new Rapid Response Bases out in the Kepler Verge. Lucky bastard. It's like the ancient west out there – pirates and slavers coming out of the Terminus Systems all the time. He gets to play the cavalry, riding out in frigates any time someone's house gets burned down.
I made some speech about how he was a valuable asset to the squad and he better make us look good out there, blah blah. I suck at speeches. I was cribbing from something I read back in history class. I don't think anyone noticed.
I'm going to miss him. Don't tell anyone.
So you think James is cute, eh? Yeah, well, when you said I should "go for him" – not gonna happen, kiddo. See, we have rules about "fraternization." You don't do The Deed with your fellow troops, especially if they're under you in rank. There's all sorts of problems that can happen when two people in the same unit get together.
Let's say your unit is in a tight spot. Some bug-eyed aliens are going to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have elbows. Nasty. You're told to guard the rear. To let everyone else escape, someone is ordered "hold this spot until we're gone." Someone has to be left behind. You think it's going to be someone you're sleeping with?
I've served with these guys for eight months now. Yeah, some of them make me feel tingly (and yeah, James was kinda scruffy-cute). I hope I never have to decide who lives and who dies. But if I have to, my decision can't be muddled up by magic-sparkly-hearts-and-stars feelings.
Anyways, I'm gonna knock off here. I've got dog watch in a few hours. Want to get a shower and a meal before then. Talk at you tomorrow.

Spectre Agent Nihlus Kryik
Nihlus Kryik is one of the Citadel Council's most decorated Spectre agents. Born in a small mercenary outpost outside Hierarchy space, he learned the hard way to fight for what he wanted. His father died when he was 16, and his mother forced him to join the turian military. His outsider status made life difficult; though he was always at the top of his class, his superiors and peers never truly accepted him.
As a soldier, Nihlus' skills were unquestionable. His attitude, however, often got him in trouble. On several occasions, he disobeyed direct orders to do what he thought was best. Although his instincts were usually proven right, his notoriety grew. Even when he single-handedly routed an enemy patrol, and saved his squad from ambush, his commanding officers berated him for his recklessness. His military career seemed to stall before it even began.
After being reassigned to a new squad for the third time, Nihlus was introduced to Saren Arterius, a fellow turian and a Spectre. Saren was impressed with the young soldier. He befriended Nihlus and offered to mentor him. Within a year of meeting Saren, Nihlus was asked to join the Spectres.
Free from the restrictions of military procedure, Nihlus excelled in his new role. He quickly stepped from his mentor's shadow and established himself as one of the Council's top agents. Since then, Nihlus has completed countless missions as a Spectre, each one more difficult and dangerous than the last.
Cool under pressure, Nihlus has an uncanny ability to find an enemy's weakness and exploit it. Though his methods aren't as brutal as Saren's, he will not hesitate to efficiently and thoroughly eradicate anything or anyone that stands in his way.

Agent Profile: Saren Arterius
Saren Arterius is the longest serving turian member of the Spectres. Recently, he has become an outspoken opponent of human expansion in the galaxy, and many fear he may soon decide to take matters into his own hands.
Agent Profile - Saren Arterius
Saren Arterius is the longest serving turian member of the Spectres - the elite military operatives answering directly to the Citadel Council. For 24 years he has been an agent of the Council's will, a zealous defender of galactic stability in the unsettled border region of the Skyllian Verge.
Official records of Spectres are sealed, but it is known that Saren followed turian tradition and entered the military at the age of 15. In 2155 he was promoted to active service after only a year of training, though it is unclear whether his unit was involved in any of the battles against human forces during the First Contact War of 2157.
In 2159 he became the youngest turian ever accepted into the Spectres. Intelligent, cunning and capable, Saren quickly developed a reputation for ruthless efficiency. Although there were a number of unsettling rumors about the brutality of his methods, there was no denying his results.
In recent years Saren has become an outspoken opponent of human expansion. Like many other non-humans, he believes the Alliance has become overly aggressive in its efforts to establish the people of Earth as a dominant species in Citadel space. As a Spectre it is generally believed he will continue to follow the will of the Council in this matter, but there are some - particularly among the Alliance - who fear Saren may soon decide to take matters into his own hands.

Krogan Series Part 3: Wrex, Krogan Battle Master
Urdnot Wrex is one of the last krogan Battle Masters: rare individuals who combine powerful biotic abilities with the devastating firepower of advanced weaponry. Born into clan Urdnot, he quickly gained fame for his prowess in battle. He became a leader of one of the smaller Urdnot tribes while still a youth - the youngest krogan to be granted the honor in 1000 years…until he was betrayed by his own people.
The betrayal opened Wrex's eyes to the truth about the krogan: most would rather die in battle than try to rebuild their society through peaceful means. Realizing the warrior culture that once valued courage, strength, and honor had been reduced to glorifying pointless violence, Wrex turned his back on the rest of the krogan.
Over the past three centuries he has served no master but himself, working as a bodyguard, mercenary, soldier of fortune, and bounty hunter; there is little in the galaxy that can still surprise him. He doesn't speak often, but when he does his words are direct and often shockingly blunt - and people tend to listen.
Despite his brutish appearance, Wrex rarely loses his temper. The mere threat of his anger is usually enough to get what he wants. When his fury is unleashed, however, it is a truly terrifying sight.

TECHNOLOGY
M35 Mako
The Mako is a light infantry fighting vehicle you'll get to use when exploring planetary environments. Equipped with laser-guided ordnance, micro- thrusters, and laser detection arrays, it's an essential tool to have in your arsenal. [Read more]
Technology : M35 Mako
For 20 years, the standard "battle taxi" of the Systems Alliance Marines was the M29 "Grizzly" Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). While excellent in long-term planetary campaigns, the Grizzly's bulk and weight made it unsuitable for rapid deployment across the Alliance's expanding sphere of influence. To fill this increasingly important role, the M35 "Mako" IFV was designed to fit in the small cargo bays of Alliance scouting frigates. The M35's small size and low weight allow it to be easily deployed to virtually any world.
Since Alliance marines may be required to fight in a variety of planetary environments, the Mako is environmentally sealed and powered by a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell. For deployment on low-gravity planetoids, it is equipped with micro-thrusters and a small element zero core, which can be used to increase mass and provide greater traction.
The "eezo" core can also be used to reduce mass, allowing the Mako to be safely air-dropped. This allows frigates to deploy their shore parties while limiting the ship's exposure to defensive anti-aircraft artillery. When used in conjunction with thrusters, mass reduction allows the Mako to extricate itself from difficult terrain.
The Mako's hull is covered with laser detection arrays, which forewarn the crew of enemy laser-guided ordnance. Ground-penetrating radar allows detection of anti-vehicle mines and other subsurface anomalies. These will be brought to the attention of the crew by the vehicle's micro-frame computer system.
Several combat support vehicles using the Mako's basic chassis are manufactured for Alliance surface garrisons. These include a recon drone controller, a mobile air defense platform, and the M38 military ambulance nicknamed "Moby" because it is painted white during peacekeeping operations. Shipboard Marines exclusively use the tactically flexible and heavily armed base model.

Normandy
Optimized for solo reconnaissance missions deep within unstable regions, and using state-of-the-art stealth technology, the Normandy is a prototype deep scout frigate. [Read more]
Technology : Normandy
Frigates are swift, flexible warships. Unlike larger vessels, they are able to land on planets. Although lightly armed, Alliance frigates usually carry a squad of marines for security and groundside duty.
The most important role filled by frigates is scouting and reconnaissance. Thanks to mass effect technology, ships and communications can travel faster than the speed of light. Sensors, however, are limited to the speed of light. If an enemy ship is a light year away, a stationary observer will only be able to see it when its light arrives in a year.
An attacker will always gain surprise against a defender; attacking ships moving faster than light will arrive long before their light speed-limited sensor data does. For defense, fleets are surrounded by spheres of scouting frigates. These vessels detect enemy ships passing by them, and transmit warnings to the main body. The Normandy is a prototype "deep scout" frigate, developed by the Systems Alliance with the assistance of the Citadel Council. It is optimized for solo reconnaissance missions deep within unstable regions, using state-of-the-art stealth technology.
For centuries, it was assumed that starship stealth was impossible. The heat generated by routine shipboard operations is easily detectable against the absolute-zero background temperature of space. The Normandy, however, is able to temporarily "store" this heat in lithium heat sinks deep within the hull. Combined with refrigeration of the exterior hull, the ship can travel undetected for hours, or drift passively for days of covert observation. This is not without risk. The stored heat must eventually be radiated, or it will build up to levels capable of cooking the crew alive.
Another component of the stealth system is the Normandy’s revolutionary Tantalus drive, a mass effect core twice the standard size. The Tantalus drive generates mass concentrations that the Normandy "falls into", allowing it to move without the use of heat-emitting thrusters. The heat sink and Tantalus drive systems allow the Normandy to loiter undetected in an enemy system to monitor traffic, or drop infiltration teams on enemy worlds. Should the Normandy’s design prove useful in field tests, it is expected that a follow-up class incorporating "lessons learned" will be produced.

Interview to celebrate the opening of the Ryoko Kui Exhibition
About Delicious in Dungeon: Story making
Q1. Your first long-running series has lasted for about 9 and a half years. Has it been different from your previous experience drawing short stories?
A1. Compared to short stories, the series has been easier because the same characters appear each time. But I was surprised to find that I got tired of drawing the same characters too many times.
Q2. You have said before that the overall structure of the story was decided before serialization began, but how much of that had you communicated to your editor? Also, what kind of communication did you have during the series production?
A2. The goal was something we discussed and had decided on from the beginning. The goal itself was simple, but the path to get there was more difficult and took longer than imagined.
Q3. Regarding the overall story concept and development, did you write out or put anything down in writing (such as the plot)?
A3. I did, but it was simple.
Q4. Did you come up with the dishes based on the monsters you wanted in the story? Or did you come up with the monsters based on the dishes?
A4. It depended on the story, but usually the story came first followed by the monsters or food. I feel like that was most often the order.
Q5. As you progressed in drawing the series, what elements of the characters, story, or world expanded or grew in the most unexpected way?
A5. Nothing particularly unexpected perhaps. When I used to draw web manga, I tended to think up inconsequential settings. So, from the beginning I tried to restrain myself as much as possible and not expand too much. I was surprised when my editor said "Let's expand it more," in the second half of the series.
Q6. "Delicious in Dungeon" starts with a relatively simple setting, but as the series and the labyrinth exploration continues, the map slowly expands little by little in the readers' minds. It becomes more three-dimensional, revealing the secrets of the world, and taking on a multilayered structure. Are there any sources that you used as a reference, or which influenced you in creating this multilayered structure?
A6. A long time ago, when I was working on my personal web manga (fantasy), I drew it however I wanted, thinking that "Only people who can read this will read it," but I regularly received feedback that it was "unreadable", so I tried to make it as easily. accessible as possible.
Q7. The series combines many elements, including "fantasy", "gourmet", "battles", and "puzzle solving", but I think it's also important that it is a "comedy" which makes people laugh. Could you let us know if you have a creative commitment towards depicting humor?
A7. My hopes are that I can make it fun for people to read.
[page 5]
About Delicious in Dungeon: Drawing manga
Q1. Please tell us about the drawing tools you currently use, both digital and analogue.
A1. In terms of analogue tools, I use a light box, a G pen, a round pen, and a brush pen. And for digital, I use CLIP STUDIO PAINT and a Wacom LCD tablet. Screentone pasting is always done on the computer, so ultimately it all ends up as a digital manuscript.
Q2. Do you have any rules or reasons for using digital and analog separately?
A2. I'm always looking for ways to draw better and save time, so the exact approach is probably different for almost every chapter. Personally, I feel that analogue methods create more appealing lines, but I feel like digital saves time, so maybe I'll do a digital rough sketch and do the inking by hand… I might have been using a G pen, and maybe I'll try out a turnip pen, or this time I'm short on time so I'll draw it entirely digitally, but with digital I can redo it over and over, so maybe analogue is still faster, and so on and so forth. I'm indecisive in this way and so haven't developed a consistent process.
Q3. I understand that you prepare 3D data for your assistants to draw the backgrounds. What kind of data did you make for "Delicious in Dungeon" ?
A3. You could call it 3D, but it's not a proper model, just something to help with the rough sketching. I line up cubes to share the perspective and sense of scale, and they use it as a reference.
Q4. At the beginning of the series, the characters and backgrounds were somewhat simply drawn, and it seems like they became richly detailed over the progression of the story. What was your intention behind using these different styles?
A4. It's simply that my technique isn't stable. I thought I'd put a lot of effort in at the start. I remember being confused when my editor asked me to add more in to the drawing, and I wondered "Where…?"
Q5. Thinking about the food, were there any menu illustrations that you were particularly satisfied with, or which you struggled with?
A5. I've never liked my own food illustrations. But the times when I read other people's manga and thought "That looks delicious," I think it's been more an influence of the movement, the staging, and the situation than the drawings.
Q6. For the world maps and the terrain of each continent, did you refer to any maps of the real world? I feel like the shape of the 'island' is similar to the shape of Fukuoka Prefecture or Kyushu.
A6. I didn't reference any specific geography, but I did try to put thought into things like whether a developed city would be near a river or the sea, and what the coastline would look like. I'm pleased if it feels similar to a real place, because it means my interpretation was pretty accurate.
About Delicious in Dungeon: Other
Q1. Which is your favorite monster?
A1. Nightmare.
Q2. I'm sure you have received a lot of feedback from readers in countries and regions outside of Japan. Please tell us if there was anything from them that made you happy, was unexpected, or which made a lasting impression on you.
A2. When you play foreign games, there are times when you think "Why did they translate it into Japanese like that?" But having been on the side of having something translated, I've realized some things are unavoidable, or endless, and there are many things that don't matter either way from the author's perspective, so it was interesting.
About Ryoko Kui's short story collections and herself
Q1. Dragons are a consistent and important motif in your work. Was there any particular work or experience which inspired this? Also, are there points about drawing dragons which you find interesting or have had to work hard on?
A1. It's less about liking dragons, and more that I'm interested in the worlds in which dragons exist. When I draw dragons, the depiction in itself has a sweet feeling to it. I have never had a pet reptile, so I don't have a very good understanding of them.
Q2. Unomiya University in your story "The dragon's school is on top of the mountain" has a Faculty of Dragons, Department of Environmental Studies, and Department of Technology Studies, and a Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. If you were to enroll in the university, which department or faculty would you like to enter?
A2. I probably wouldn't be accepted….
Q3. The collection includes a short story staged as an essay manga. Are you a fan of essay manga? Please tell us about any genres of essay manga that you like.
A3. I love all kinds of essay manga. I read them often.
Q4. If you were to make your own game, what kind of game would you like to make?
A4. I prefer being a player when it comes to games.
Q5. When did you first start drawing illustrations (doodles)?
A5. I don't exactly remember when I first drew a picture, but I think I started drawing manga around the fourth or fifth grade of elementary school. in my notebooks and had my friends read them.
Q6. What is the most fun part about drawing manga?
A6. Every part is fun and hard in its own way.
Q7. Please tell us if there is anything you "just can't stop no matter what".
A7. My procrastination habit.
Q8. Could you please tell us if there's something you want to draw now?
A8. I've been working continuously since the serialization, so I'd like to take about 2 to 3 months to just draw whatever I want.

Kai with his babies?
Tumblr media
Tides of Fatherhood
kai (merman oc) x reader
warnings, children and babies, you have twins (a boy and a girl) no childbirth/labour mentioned, only afterwards, kai speaks choppy english still
word count- 1,380 words
Tumblr media
Kai's golden eyes softened as he gazed at the two small bundles nestled against you. They were newborns, still fragile with tiny limbs and delicate scales that shimmered faintly in the dim light of the cave. You could see their small gills fluttering, adjusting to their new world. Their tiny bodies curled closer to you, seeking warmth and comfort.
Kai had never been more terrified.
The water lapped gently at the edges of the rocky cave, the sound mingling with the quiet breaths of your children. Kai crouched beside you, his large, webbed hands hovering nervously over the pups as if unsure how to touch them without breaking them. His English had always been halting and rough, but right now, he struggled to find any words at all.
You smiled at him, tired but full of warmth. "You can touch them, Kai. They're stronger than they look."
He hesitated for a moment before finally reaching out, his fingers trembling as he gently stroked one of the pups' tiny arms. His touch was tentative, as though he feared his strength would be too much for their fragile forms. But the pup responded to his touch with a soft, contented sound, their small eyes fluttering open briefly before closing again.
Kai let out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding, his broad shoulders relaxing slightly. "They… ours," he whispered, his voice thick with awe.
"Yes," you said softly, watching him. "They're ours."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raising two newborns had proven to be a far greater challenge than either of you had anticipated. Your pups were half-human, half-merman, and their needs were unique. They needed water to breathe, yet their lungs were also developing to survive above the surface. The air-pocket cave you lived in became both a refuge and a playground of trial and error.
Kai adapted quickly, more so than you expected for someone who had spent his life beneath the waves, in a world so different from your own. He learned how to cradle the pups in his large arms, his touch always gentle despite his size. He built makeshift cribs out of driftwood and seaweed, creating small nests for them in the shallows, where the water would kiss their skin but not overwhelm their still-developing lungs.
Kai was fiercely protective from the start, always watching, always alert. "I… guard," he would mutter, his English improving little by little as the weeks went on. He often stayed near the cave entrance, scanning the ocean with those sharp golden eyes of his, ever-watchful for any danger that might threaten his family.
But when he wasn’t standing guard, Kai was with you and the pups. He was an eager learner, mimicking the way you held them, the way you spoke softly to soothe their cries. At night, the pups would sleep on either side of you, with Kai close by, his hand always resting on one of them as if needing to reassure himself they were real.
One evening, as the moonlight filtered through the water, casting shimmering reflections on the cave walls, you found Kai crouched over the pups, one in each arm. His usually stern face was soft, a rare smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he hummed a low, gentle tune. You couldn't help but watch, warmth blooming in your chest as you saw him embracing fatherhood so naturally.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When your pups began to crawl on land and swim through the water things became a lot more chaotic.
They were fast. Faster than you expected. With their small tails and webbed hands, they zoomed through the shallow pools of water in the cave with surprising agility, leaving you and Kai scrambling to keep up. Kai, ever the protector, would dart after them, his large frame moving gracefully through the water as he scooped them up, one under each arm.
"You stay close," he would say, his voice firm but filled with affection as he brought them back to your side. The pups would giggle, their laughter like the soft chime of seashells clinking together, always wriggling out of Kai’s grip the moment he set them down.
It wasn’t long before they started exploring the world outside the cave. Kai was hesitant, always on edge whenever the pups swam too far from the entrance, but he knew they needed to learn. And so, he would guide them through the shallow waters, teaching them about the ocean, pointing out different creatures as they swam by.
"This… fish," he would say, showing them a colorful school of fish darting through the coral. "Not eat. Friends."
The pups watched with wide, curious eyes, soaking in every word, every lesson. You watched them too, heart swelling with pride as you saw the way Kai cared for them, teaching them in his own gentle, patient way. He wasn’t just their protector—he was their guide, their teacher, their father.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time your pups reached the age of five, they were a force to be reckoned with. Their personalities had begun to show—
Hali, your daughter, was calm and thoughtful, often following Kai around with wide, observant eyes, while your son, Aenon was mischievous and energetic, always looking for new ways to test the boundaries of their world.
Kai loved them fiercely. You could see it in the way he interacted with them, how his eyes softened when they tugged on his fins or asked him a hundred questions about the ocean. His English had improved dramatically, though it was still broken at times, and he would often stumble over words as he tried to explain things to the pups.
"See… stars?" he said one night, pointing up at the dark surface of the ocean, where the light from the moon and stars filtered down. "Those… light in sky. Far away."
The pups looked up, their eyes wide with wonder. "how fare" Hali asked, her voice filled with awe.
Kai nodded, smiling. "Yes. Very far. But… we see them from here. Always watching."
The pups seemed to take comfort in that, their eyes still locked on the stars as they drifted off to sleep, nestled in the warmth of their father’s arms.
Of course, it wasn’t always easy. There were moments of frustration, especially as the pups grew older and more independent. Kai struggled to balance his instinct to protect them with the knowledge that they needed to explore, to learn on their own. It was hard for him to let go, to allow them to make mistakes and face challenges without his constant presence.
But he tried. For you, for them, he tried.
One day, after the pups had ventured out farther than they ever had before, you found Kai pacing near the cave entrance, his hands clenching and unclenching as he muttered to himself. "They… too far," he growled, worry etched into every line of his face. "What if… hurt? What if… something bad?"
You placed a hand on his arm, stopping his pacing. "They’ll be okay, Kai. They’re strong, just like you."
He looked at you, his golden eyes searching yours for reassurance. Slowly, he nodded, though the tension didn’t fully leave his body until the pups returned, laughing and unscathed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time the pups were old enough to venture out on their own, Kai had become a different man. He was still fierce and protective, but there was a softness to him now, a warmth that hadn’t been there before.
He had raised two beautiful children, and they were as much a part of him as the sea itself.
As the sun set one evening, casting a golden glow over the water, you and Kai watched as your pups swam together, laughing and playing in the shallows. Kai's hand found yours, squeezing it gently as he smiled.
"They… grow strong," he said quietly, his English now more fluid, though still touched with his unique cadence. "Like you. Like me."
You smiled, leaning into him. "Like us."
Kai nodded, his eyes filled with pride as he watched his family, the love in his heart as deep and vast as the ocean that had brought you together.

What if Spider was Spider-Man?
Just got done watching Spider-verse and now I can't help but think about Spider as the Pandoran version of Spider-Man.
-) While practicing his archery a mile away from Hell's Gate, Spider is bitten by a strange arachnid creature unlike anything catalogued on Pandora: Eight eyes, a small bioluminescent body, and too many limbs that skitter up his arm too fast for him to bat away with his bow.
-) The pain on his upper arm is searing, cold venom is flooding his system, and his body is shaking. Spider knows he should tell Jake and get himself checked out, but Jake is spending time with his family, and Spider doesn't want to bother him. Instead, Spider stumbles back to Hell's Gate alone, locks his bedroom door, and sleeps for days, plagued by fevered dreams of glowing silk threads covering his entire body in a cocoon and the feeling of being watched by all eight eyes.
-) Eywa does not speak, but he feels her. The bite was no freak accident. It was an acknowledgement. A transformation.
-) The mutation amplifies his strength, speed, and reflexes to rival young Na’vi. He can leap through the trees with uncanny grace, run silently across branches, and wrestle his siblings with ease.
-) Spider hits a sudden, aggressive growth spurt. His bones stretch, he shoots up like a weed, and his posture shifts. He grows into a broad-shouldered, coiled force of nature in just a few days. Norm jokingly asks, "Did Jake feed you a special protein powder?" But Spider just shrugs, quietly avoiding the question with lowered eyes.
-) Against RDA soldiers, Spider is terrifying. He moves faster than their sensors can track, weaving traps of glowing silk webbing that strangle, immobilize, or slice. He’s even developed kill zones in different parts of the vast forest, leading enemies there like a spider luring prey into its web.
-) Spider's methods of killing are precise. He drops from a tree in total silence, snaps necks with his super strength, and webs the body into the trees as a warning. In moments of desperation, he uses a special venom-infused bite passed down from the spider that changed him. It paralyzes instantly and causes intense hallucinations. Some unfortunate survivors go mad from the encounter.
-) Spider takes no pleasure in killing, nor does he look forward to it, but when he kills, it is swift, silent, and deliberate. Spider kills because he knows that every RDA life he spares will cost dozens of innocent Na’vi or creatures. To show mercy is to be complicit because these people will never stop.
-) Even Lo’ak gives Spider a curious once-over and mutters, "You been lifting boulders or something, bro?"
-) Spider wants so badly to tell everyone about his abilities, but he fears that Neytiri will misunderstand and see him as a threat. No one trusts him as far as they can throw him, and as far as Spider is concerned, he's on his own.
-) When Spider connects his webbing to a living thing: beast, plant, even another person, he feels a tug in his chest, a strange warmth in his mind. It’s not language, but sensation. A feeling. Spider’s webbing can read an enemy's next move, like a spider sensing a fly tremble in its web. He wraps it around their weapons, and in that fleeting connection, he feels intention. He dodges before they shoot. He moves before they do.
-) Spider can breathe the air, but keeps his mask on to avoid suspicion.
-) His "spidey suit" is made from his webbing, and he even wears a handmade mask to hide his identity. At first, the mask was entirely blank until Spider decided to draw eight eyes on it, giving him a more intimidating look.
-) The cat is out of the bag when Spider uses his webbing to "heal" Netyam's injury, but that's a story for another day,

Hellooo, may I request reader dating a Spiderman! Leon (I'm such as a sucker for re2 Leon and the thought of him as spiderman) hcs??? He thinks he does a good enough job covering up his superhero identity, but unfortunately for him reader had that figured out for quite a while. He's not as sneaky/careful as he thinks he is hehe

So If You Need A Hero, Just Look In The Mirror!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Spiderman!RE2!Leon x GN!Reader]
Tumblr media
Leon has long been Spiderman before he decided to date you, hiding this aspect of him when he was courting you to let him be your boyfriend. He felt guilty that he had to hide his masked persona from you but he knows that it’s for the best in order to keep everyone close to him safe. An ordinary 21 year-old officer in blues by day, a web-shooting hero swinging from the buildings of Raccoon City by night.
You know that Spiderman exists and you admire him, doodling his mask on the corners of blank papers when the day is slow and idle; what you don’t know is that your boyfriend is Spiderman. Yet even without that knowledge, you consider yourself incredibly lucky to have someone so gentle and kind like he is; not everyone has a boyfriend that is patient and slow to anger.
You both would schedule dates and Leon’s schedule is free when all of a sudden, he has to go somewhere and reschedule the date. He would always appear sheepish and regretful when he had to break the news to you, especially when you were so eager to try out the dishes at the restaurant you two had reserved. You asked about it and he always responded with “it’s complicated” in a bashful and silent voice so you thought that it had something to do with a difficult family situation or a tough work environment. He usually didn’t share about them and you didn’t prod for more information, offering comfort and reassurance instead yet you still wondered what disrupts his evenings like this. You were confused about this habit but not overly suspicious.
You noticed that Leon would frequently come home with small cuts and bruises to the face, arms, hands, and torso.
“Leon, what are they making you do at work?! Why do you always come home battered in bruises?!” You exclaim as you look at the cut in the high point of Leon’s cheek, light pink and still bleeding slightly. His face is on your palms, tilted to the side as you try to get a better look at his injuries.
“You know how crime is now, they’re getting more violent,” Leon explains as he tries to ease your worries. “A few delinquents got me but I’m still in one piece.”
“But still!” You reasoned as worry creased your forehead. “Aren’t there other officers with you too?”
“Yes there are and they’re just as injured as I am,” he responds. He really wants to give you the honest explanation of his wounds– the fact that they’re from fighting crime as a hero named after an arachnid and not because of a rough encounter with some petty criminals– but he can’t; it’ll put you in harm’s way. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I didn’t graduate at the top of my academy for nothing, did I?”
You sigh and nod, but not before you look Leon sternly in the eyes with a pout. “But that doesn’t mean you’re totally invincible, Leon.”
He smiles, listening to you scold him on and on while you dab ointment on his wounds.
Leon often catches things as they fall mid-air and reacts faster than the average person, which both his partner and coworkers notice. The station attributes the replacement of the old bookshelf due to his sharp senses, having informed the station that they had to find a new one to take its place. Leon simply heard a tiny, faint creak of one of the planks holding up dense files which meant that about any time now, if they didn’t take any action, it would collapse and cause a mess. He always explained it with him having a sharp sense of hearing and being agile but in reality, it’s because of his heightened senses that he developed after the bite.
Whenever the news of Spiderman comes in the news, he’s always ready to drop whatever he was doing and see himself on the TV by footage of people who've seen him with the mask and suit. He watches intently, worried that his identity would be leaked and even a single frame of his face would be identified even if he makes sure that his mask always stays on. You chalk up his keen fascination with the hero as admiration and being a fan-boy, chuckling at the sight of seeing his boyfriend look so serious as he watches the friendly neighbourhood hero save the day once again.
You went home early one day, pleased that your boss decided to close up hours ahead of your usual closing time. When you got home, the house was dark save for the small beam of light peeking through the gaps at the bottom of the storage closet’s door. Interested, you walked close and heard some thudding and heavy breathing coming from the closed door. You swiftly turn the knob and walk in to see Leon standing half naked in his boxer shorts and a red something bunched out behind him on the floor. New bruises and scratches adorned his muscular torso, yet to be cleaned and tended to by your boyfriend in front of you.
“Leon?!” You bellowed. “What the fuck were you doing?!”
His hands come up to cover the bruises, looking at you with a terrified expression as a flush blooms in his cheeks and chest.
“Listen, I can explain–”
“Are you cheating on me?! Is that a girl’s dress behind you–”
“No, sweetheart, please– I’m not cheating on you or anything like that! You know I’d never do that to you–”
“I’m giving you 3 minutes to talk, Kennedy. Start. Now.”
Leon fumbles around, trying to find something– anything– to cover up with but he gives up, nearly bare as he tries to survive the crushing pressure of the situation. He starts off by picking up the red something you eyed earlier, holding it out properly so you can truly see that it is not a dress but a bodysuit with details resembling webs.
“I’m… I’m Spiderman.”
“I have a mental facility on speed dial–”
“No!” He turns his wrist to face skyward and shoots a web that aimed for your phone, snatching it out of your grasp. Your cellphone is now in his hand. “Is that enough proof or do I also need to lay eggs like a spider does so you’ll believe me.”
“No!” Now it’s your turn to explain, swatting him on the shoulder as you take the phone back. “Fine, fine. I believe you. But I did have the idea that youre him for a long time now.”
The color from Leon’s face drained again, heart threatening to burst inside his chest.
“How… how…” he quietly asked as he tried to inspect your expression, trying to name an emotion based on your face.
“I mean… when you’re suddenly gone in the evening when we go on dates, you say you’re going to the RPD but you don’t rush home to get your bag with your permit and badges and stuff. When I get home and you’re still gone, it’s just sitting at the foot of your bed. You also always smell like something burnt or maybe rusty, which you don’t normally smell like when you get home from work. And don’t get me started on your injuries– they’re way too much for a police officer who apprehends petty criminals from time to time.”
The blond is at a loss for words, mouth bobbing up and down but with no words coming out.
“You look like a fish,” you comment. He blinks to ground himself and tries to calm down.
“I thought I did a good job at hiding it,” he softly mutters.
“For a while, I thought you were cheating on me and then I thought you were some gruesome murderer or something.”
“What?! No!” He exclaims, his hands waving to dismiss the idea. “Cheat?! Murder?! No, I’d never!”
“Good. So… you really are Spiderman.”
“Yeah… kind of relieved that this is out now, though I didn’t want you to find out this way.”
You displayed some coldness towards your boyfriend for a little bit, letting him know that hiding things from you isn’t good and that he should’ve been open but you cut him some slack, acknowledging that he did it for your well-being and that it’s also hard on his part too because the weight of his double life can be crushingly heavy.
Leon’s become more comfortable, sometimes cracking a spider-related joke or two with you. Of course, he made you swear that you’ll be the only one to know who Spiderman really is and you promised– for the safety of everyone involved with Leon. Now with this information, sometimes you buy little spider-related trinkets or some Spiderman merchandise that stores sell to fluster him.
He’s decided to take it upon himself to teach you some self-defense moves in case a villain decides to use you to their evil plans in order to taunt Leon, a situation both of you hope will never happen.
One day, you asked Leon to wear the suit for you in your shared apartment. After locking all doors and shutting all blinds, he walks out of the storage closet he keeps his costume in and appears in front of you. He poses first and climbs to the ceiling, hanging upside down as he looks at you. Feeling a little daring that day, you ask if you can lift his mask up to the bridge of his nose and place a careful kiss on his lips as he’s still upside down, planning to ask you if you two can have upside down kisses more often after this one.

Want to keep using Ad Blockers? Stop Using Chrome, Switch to Firefox.
So with the rollout of Manifest V3, Google Chrome is pretty much crippling all ad blockers on Chrome. Effectively, ad blockers can no longer update their lists without fully updating their plugins. It's pretty shitty.
And you may be asking yourself -- what can I do? The answer is simple:
Switch to Firefox. Now.
Now I've been a Firefox evangelist for a long time, I know, but it's a free, open source browser made by a nonprofit org. It's literally the most ethically developed any software could possibly be. It's on every major desktop platform, and it's just... good.
Why would you use a browser made by a corporation that literally removed "Don't be evil" from their mission instead of this? I know that, like, a long ass time ago Chrome was faster, but that's not remotely true anymore. Heck, on Mac Chrome eats way more RAM than Firefox. It's ridiculous.
That's not even mentioning the fact that the amount of Chromium engine browsers out there is kind of ruining the web. Mozilla has their own rendering engine built on open web standards, and diversity in rendering engines helps everyone.
So yeah. If you're using a computer, go get Firefox. They have an Android version too. (They sorta have an iOS app -- but that uses Webkit because of Apple's limitations on third party browser engines -- but it will let you access your sync'd Firefox passwords).
Make your life better.

Oil is Thicker Then Blood (Part 94)
It was N who took Tera in for her playdate two days after they'd dragged in the second pod. It wasn't at Delilah’s house, or even at his apartment, nope, it was in the same room the mothers group was held, and the moment he walked in, daughter in tow. (Wearing a brand new little hair clip made from his old hat pin.) He felt startlingly out of place.
For starters, he was the only male drone there. There was Delilah, Clover, Martha and Ginger; all names he'd heard in passing aside from Delilah, and a smattering of children of various ages, Zoey and Cain being the two eldest, playing together on a colorful plastic slide.
Bonnie and Axle were too young yet to play with the toddlers, so they were put up in cribs where they could do what pillbabies do… which at their age, that was mostly sleep.
But that left Toby and Kiara in a little playpen together, Toby ambling around, stacking blocks and… putting them in his mouth, and then knocking them over again.
Kiara was sitting upright, looking between Toby and her mother nervously, she looked upset-as always, even more so at being left alone in the playpen.
“Uh… Hello?” N called out, nerves laced in his voice as he sat a baby bag, with both toys and bottles for when Tera needed it, down next to an empty chair.
“Oh N! You made it!” Delilah was the first to greet him, coming up to lightly hold his arm while smiling brightly. “Sorry, Originally this was just supposed to be between Tera and Kiara… but then Ginger found out about it and-”
“- And I said why not have all the kiddies in one big playdate!” Ginger appeared before him, she was definitely Hals sister, even had a bit of the same accent.
“You must be Uzi's husband! It's nice to finally meet you in person! I'm Ginger!” She stuck a hand out and shook his hand firmly, he grinned awkwardly. “We're not- Uh, just N is fine.”
“And hello Tera! You're here with Daddy today! How exciting!” She turned to the toddler resting in his arm, who smiled back at her with a toothy grin.
“You can put her in the playpen with Toby and Kiara!” Delilah directed him over to the small playpen, And N and Tera exchanged a look.
“You wanna play with them baby bat?” He asked softly, and Tera nodded rapidly, grinning from ear to ear.
“Alright, just be careful with them.” N gently placed her down in the pen, she stood for a moment, wobbly before falling on her butt and moving into a crawl, exploring the pen and all its toys.
As Papa was dragged away by the other ladies to gossip, she wandered her way through colorful plastic balls, wooden blocks and plushies that had exchanged hands several times, she booped one in the nose and it's eye popped off.
She jumped when the button suddenly came off, hissing at it in warning before the fact that it wasn't alive registered in her still developing systems.
“Mmm!”
The sound caught the young droneling by surprise, and she turned. Kiara was clumsily crawling towards the edge of the pen, trying to get to her mom because clearly- she wanted nothing to do with all these people.
“Ma! Mama!” She called, but she wasn't quite loud enough for her mother to hear her over the sound of the other kids playing.
After a moment of trying, she seemed to realize she couldn't be heard, which made her more upset…
Tera could see it coming before it happened, Kiara's fist curled, her mouth turned down and her eyelights scrunched. She was about to start crying.
“Hi! Kia! Hi!” She belted, both as a distraction and genuine greeting, crawling over a quickly as possible, tumbling over herself to cross the distance faster.
Thankfully, that seemed to stop the outburst. Kiara whipping her body around to look at the source of her name being called.
“Hi…” Kiara replied, not quite making eye contact with her purple eyelights, she made herself look even smaller, looking as defeated as a toddler could.
“Feel bad?” Tera asked, her grasp of language was getting better by the week…
“Go…” Kiara muttered, though in tye context given Tera understood that she wasn't telling her to go away, and that she wanted to leave.
Not understanding personal space, Tera shoved her face through the arms blocking the other toddlers face, all but making the girl give her all her attention. “Why?”
Kiara looked at Tera's giant toothy grin, body wiggling like an excited puppy and giggled softy, breaking through her sniffles.
She shook her head, which only made Tera cock hers to the side and get even closer to the girls visor, vibrating.
“Loud.” Kiara finally said, covering her audials to try and demonstrate what she was trying to say to compensate for her lack of vocabulary.
“Loud.” Tera repeated, sticking her tongue out in thought before getting an idea and scampering over to the same plush from earlier and grabbing it with both her hands.
Since this teddy bear plush was bigger then she was, it took a bit of effort to pull it with her- even harder when she was used to crawling with all four of her limbs instead of just two. But she slowly dragged the heavy plush over, making tiny noises of strain before stopping right in front of Kiara.
“Teddy!” She said proudly, presenting the plush bear proudly.
Kiara blinked at it, hands clumsily coming up to grip the fur of the bear. She looked at Tera, then the plush, before slowly crawling on top of it, burying herself in it.
“Good now?” Tera asked after a moment, sitting like a dog, and her head cocked to the side.
“G-good now.” Kiara repeated, snuggling up the the bear for comfort, covering one audial up entirely. Tera grinned, feeling proud of herself.
“Yay!”
And that peace lasted for a good minute, maybe minute and a half before Toby got bored playing with blocks by himself, and began to waddle over to where the girls were. Kiara slowly calming down from being overwhelmed, and Tera happily entertaining herself pouncing on a plastic ball.
And he began to drag the plush bear out from underneath the toddler, either curious of it and wanting to play to or being just a little bit mean in the way toddlers can be.
“No! Bad!” Tera grabbed the other end of it with her teeth, growling as Toby smiled, pulling harder.
Kiara snapped up, looking between the two, gripping onto the plush harder as the ratted out thing got pulled in two direction.
For Toby, it was a simple game of tug of war. For Tera and Kiara, it was life or death.
Tera pulled and hissed and growled, using all four limbs to tug the foot of the bear in her direction, but found a good match in Toby using both arms and standing upright. Kiara whimpered, not wanting her comfort to be taken away.
They both pulled
And pulled
And pulled-
Riiip!
The leg Tera was pulling with her teeth came off abruptly, throwing Toby backwards onto his butt and Kiara off the plush and onto the floor.
Tera was confused on why there was cotton in her mouth and all over the floor for a moment before all hell broke loose.
Toby began to wail, being upset and confused about being knocked over suddenly, Kiara was next, her cry was peircing, and Tera winced, dropping the severed leg onto the ground, and looking guilty.
“Kiara? Oh! What happened?!” Delilah immediately turned from her conversation to peer into the playpen, Ginger and N following suit.
“Looks like your kids fangs ripped the stuffed animal.” Martha pointed out, it didn't help that Tera had made herself look small and very guilty.
“Now Martha, all these toys are old… we don't know-” Delilah was cut off by Toby.
“She hurt me! She broke it!” He cried.
Tera didn't know what to do, she hadn't meant to, she just didn't want him to take it from Kiara.
She opened her mouth, to try and protest, or even to apologize in her own unique way when he screamed again. “SHE GONNA EAT ME!”
She froze like she was made of ice, looking up at her Dad, who looked like his heart just shattered into a million peices. Ginger quickly got up and silenced her child with a quick tap on the bottom.
“Toby! You know better! You can't just accuse people of that! She's a baby!” Ginger looked incredibly upset, and Toby did too, still holding on the now amputee teddy bear and bawling his eyes out.
“Come here sweetheart… I'm sorry you got mixed up in that.” Delilah picked up her daughter, comforting her and coaxing her down from her tantrum, and N picked up Tera, who wouldn't meet his eyes.
“What happened…?” He whispered gently, but Tera didn't know how to answer that, she didn't have the vocabulary. So all that came put of her mouth was “Sowwy…”
“I think… I think we should go…I'm sorry everyone.” N began to pack up briskly, a million thoughts cascading through his head as Tera held back tears.
She wasn't gonna eat him.
Why did he say that?
Was there something different about her?
“N-No! N, stuff like this happens all the time. Toddler's are drama queens.” Delilah assured him, trying to defuse the situation but already having the sinking feeling damage had been done.
Kiara, now comforted by her mother, looked at both Toby and Tera, Toby was still bawling his little eyes out, while Tera was trying to do it silently. Little tears of confusion running down her visor.
“Mama!” She got her mother's attention and shakily pointed to the girl. “Good.” She said.
Then she pointed to Toby. “Bad.”
Delilah looked starstruck, and so did everyone else. Tera whimpered, sniffling and trying to bury herself into N's coat.
“Huh…” Clover mad a noise of intrigue.. and Delilah smiled.
“Yeah? Toby's the culprit Huh?” She asked gently, and Kiara nodded rapidly, looking at the green eyed toddler with a wicked glare.
“Ooh look at that face! She mad!” Ginger laughed, holding her own son loosely. “It wouldn't surprise me, he's had a habit of starting trouble…”
“Still, Tera probably scared him with her fangs.” Martha deadpanned. And N felt his soul drain out of him a little more.
“I still think we should go… I don't think Tera wants to stay after that.” He packed up his baby bag and made his way out the door, waving goodbye at the group while Tera curled into him.
“Bad? I? I Bad?” Tera asked, sniffling.
“No. No you're not bad, accidents happen.” He responded immediately. Closing his eyes as he gave her a swift kiss on the forehead.
Tera though… Tera didn't quite believe him.
