Unfortunately, the season 3 episode Magic Duel positions gender swapping as a very impressive feat of magic, likely one that's entirely impossible.

When Trixie believes Twilight has successfully gender swapped Applejack, she says "no one can do that spell" and Twilight agrees, showing her it was just Big Mac painted orange to look like Applejack.

Since Twilight appears to be the foremost expert on magic in Equestria, we can assume her opinion to be fact. The phrasing does imply that the magic exists, but that perhaps no one alive has the magical capacity or skill to use it.

Pinkie is a hardworking pony whose been trying to make a life for herself on her own after leaving the rock farm she called home for so long. She was then taken in by Mr and Mrs Cake,and quickly became liked amongst the locals. After all,a sweet is served best with a smile!

Pinkie = Gray/White (Surprisingly, but it's because of the rocks in the rock farm and it's most of her family members' palette)

Rainbow = Green/Magenta (Applejack and Scoots. Formerly red but it was only because it was cool to her, she didn't have any actual reason)

Twilight = Green (Spikey-Wikey, lol)

Applejack = Yellow (Feat. my headcannon of Pear Butter loving yellow due to buttercups. So, she likes it because her mom did.)

Fluttershy = Green/Brown (Because of nature)

Rarity = White/Gold (Color of grace, royalty and elegance.)

Scootaloo = Red/Blue (Because of RD mentioning that it was her favorite color once and it's RD's coat color.)

Sweetie = Sky blue (The color of the gems making Rarity's cutie mark)

Apple Bloom = Green (My headcannon, when she first opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Applejack's eyes. And she's loved ever since without knowing why.)

Cracking his eyes open Simon groaned and stretched his limbs hearing his joints pop.  He opened his eyes to a brightly lit room and he yawned, turning onto his side to search for you. Blindly he reaches a hand out to your side of the bed, feeling the warm but empty sheets. Though not as warm as he would have liked. With a grunt he threw the covers off and sat hunched on the edge of the bed. He sniffed, the morning light streamed through the windows and the smell of bacon came sauntering past his nose. 

Getting up to head downstairs he maneuvered into the hall. The walls were covered with pictures of his family. Wedding photos, family reunions with the 141, birthdays with Soap wearing funny hats and pulling bunny ears over people, and school awards hung on the walls almost cluttering the space. Turning the corner he spotted his baby girl as she sat on the floor of the living room staring up at the tv.   

“Just take the broken limbs down Rarity. Don’t you care about nothing other than prettyfining?”

“Some pony has to, you are making an absolute mess of the town square Applejack.” 

Simon felt his heart swell at the sight and the sound of sizzling came to his ears. He wandered over and leaned against the wall to watch you cook. You were still in your sleep wear and you were making bacon and eggs. Admiring your curves he stood silent. 

“My Little Pony, My Little Pony

Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahhh…My Little Pony!”

 “Ella? Can you turn the tv down a notch sweetie. I don’t want to wake your Dad yet.” You called.

He smirked, hearing Ella’s exaggerated sigh. “Fiine.” 

Strolling over to you he wrapped his arms around your waist, giving you a good squeeze. You squealed a hand shooting to his arm, “Simon!” 

He pressed close to you and kissed your cheek, “Mornin’ doll.”  

“You sneak. You shouldn’t be up yet.” You flipped a piece of bacon making another round of sizzles and dropped your utensil. Wiping your hands you turned in his arms and put your palms flat against his bare chest feeling the hair there. 

“Why’s that?” 

“I was planning to bring you breakfast in bed.” You lean up to sweetly kiss his lips and you part with a sigh. 

“We still can,” he brushed his lips against the shell of your ear and you shuttered at the feeling of his stubble. “Among other things.” 

You laugh and push him away. “Your tea is already on the table. It should still be hot enough for you.” 

He smirked and took his drink to the living room. “Mornin Ella.” He kissed his baby’s head and ruffled her blonde hair. 

Ella batted his hand away but didn’t tear her eyes from the screen, “Mornin Daddy.” 

Simon sighed, dropping his weight onto the couch to relax. “Watch ya watchin pumpkin?” 

“My Little Pony.” 

“It's an easy feat, and magic makes it all complete!” 

“You have my little ponies Do you know you're all my”

“Very best friends!”

Ella’s eyes were glued and he smirked. “Oh, yeah? What’s it ‘bout?” He raised his mug to his lips sipping his tea. 

“Rarity and Applejack are fighting.” 

“Which one's Rarity?” 

“The unicorn.”

“Gotcha.” 

“Applejack! Rarity! Applejack! Rarity!” 

A purple unicorn came on screen from a tall tree. 

“Who’s that?” 

“Twilight Sparkle.” 

“And what's she do?” 

“Daddy I’m trying to watch!” Whining Ella flopped up onto the couch curling up into the corner. 

He took another sip of his tea to hide his smirk. “Si?” He threw his arm over the couch and leaned back watching the ponies race for shelter. 

“Hm?” 

He listened to your footsteps as you approached and you leaned over the couch, circling your arms around him. “How many pieces of bacon do you want?” 

“Three’s good.” 

You kissed his cheek and straightened, “Ella sweetheart, how many do you want?” 

“Two please.” 

“Alright, breakfast is almost ready, I’ll call you soon.” 

Simon extended the couch and put his feet up, “Daddy, when is Uncle Johnny coming over?” 

“He’s having lunch with us.” 

“Yes!” She cheered excitedly, crawling over to him and curling into his side. “Do you think he brought me a present?” 

Simon snorted, wrapping an arm around her. “That suck up can’t go a day without getting you something.” Not that he was any better.

“It was a dark and stormy night just like this one and three ponies were having a slumber party just. Like. This. One.” 

“Which one’s your favorite?” 

“Rarity.” 

“Why’s that?” 

“Because she’s so pretty.” He hummed and took another sip of his tea. “Which one is your favorite Daddy?” 

Simon tilted his head considering, maybe he should get her a plushie of that unicorn for her birthday.

“Twilight.” 

“Why’s that?” 

“She’s purple.” 

“Then you place one marshmallow on the top of the chocolate and be sure it's centered, that's critical, and then carefully put another perfectly square graham cracker on the top.” 

“And done! Ta-da!” 

You came back into the room, “Didn’t you guys hear me? Breakfast is ready.” 

With a grunt Simon pushed himself off the couch, “Sorry love, didn’t hear ya.” 

“Oh, but Mom can’t we eat in here?” Ella flopped against the couch like a fish out of water pouting. Handing you his mug, Simon scooped Ella up and threw her over his shoulder. 

She shrieked, giggling as he paused her show. “You heard her Ella, breakfast is served.”

You laughed as you watched your husband carry your baby to the kitchen. Hearing a couple of knocks on the door you frowned and checked the peephole. Gasping with excitement when you saw who it was. 

Turning the lock you pulled it open and grinned, “Johnny!” 

Johnny stood with flowers in one hand and a box in another. “Mornin’ Y/n!” 

You beckoned him in and shut the door behind him. “I thought you were gonna be here at lunch?” 

“Yeah, I just got excited.” 

From the back you heard Simon call for you and you grinned, “Come join us for breakfast! I’ll make you a plate.” 

Johnny followed you into the kitchen, “That's alright, I don't need nothing.” 

“You sure?” 

“Yup, already ate. Mornin’ Lt!” 

Simon looked up from his daughter at the same time Ella screamed, “Uncle Johnny!” 

Johnny dropped the box and knelt to the ground quickly catching her as she barreled into him. “Ai, how's my girl doing?” He kissed her check. “You little bugger.”  

She giggled in his hold and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. “I missed you.” 

Johnny smiled. “I missed ya too.” 

Simon sat in his chair, “Mornin.”

Soap playful pulled out Ella’s chair and sat her in his lap so she could eat. You joined them sitting across from Simon. 

Content to just watch and listen to the conversation flow as he ate, Simon shoved another bite into his mouth. He was happy. Honestly happy. 

And it was all because of you.

How uh. How would the human counterparts react to both being ponies and their respective pony counterparts?

I have actually written a few of these!

So the main thing is that everyone's aware of the situation by now so no ????? at it.

Anyone going through the Portal, whether it be Human-to-Pony or vice-versa, is going to have a good little bit of not knowing how to function because ya know. Number of legs, Hands vs hooves. That sort of thing.

The Twilights meeting the other went about the same as Canon. Though with Pony!Twi going 'okay /logically/ I know I should have a counterpart but I started to doubt it after the first two trips??'

Pinkie and Pinkie have known about each other for a while so it's less 'getting to know each other' and more 'they are combining their power to go whole hog on all the plans they've made'

Thankfully the Rainbows met during a scenario where they had a task to do so the competition on which one is 'better' is reeled in but yes they're 100% trying to get used to the new forms so they can have feats of athleticism.

The Raritys also met each other during a thing with a task though that was more a crisis, but later they had a LONG talk about fashion culture between their worlds.

The Applejacks were actually kinda similar because of a bit I wrote with like. There's a scene where Pony!Twi brought some snacks with her and Human!AJ could actually taste the difference between what she brought. And now she wants to do some science of her own to see how close apple species are and if they have a seed from a tree in one dimension but grow it in another will the result be from Dimension 1's version. Dimension 2's version, or a new species?

I'm not sure entirely what the Fluttershys would do, but I do know they're the most hesitant to cross over and probably only meet because Twilight got tired of chasing Discord down when he hops through and sent in the Big Guns™

God the first two Trixie focused episodes are sad

You ever think about how the Trixie & Twilight rivalry, as brief as it was, started because Twilight and friends fundamentally misunderstood what a stage magician was?

Like if we look at unicorns that Twilight has had as her villainous opponents the line up is;

King Sombra, the dictator keeping himself alive with dark magic, who wants to conquer and enslave the Crystal Empire,

Starlight Glimmer the cult leader, stealer of cutie marks, and ruiner of multiple timelines,

Sunset Shimmer attemptive dictator and stealer of an element of harmony,

And Trixie, who's big original crime is that she's a stage magician and Twilight (and her friends) doesn't understand what that is, and that the stuff that Trixie does during her debut episode are in large part, just part of the job of being a magician.

Being a boastful liar is part of stage magic, the whole point is that you fool the audience into thinking one thing is happening, when really another thing is happening. They're entertainers, their job is to shock and awe the audience with feats of, what seems like, magic and impossibility.

Also, people seem to blame her for the Ursa Minor being brought into town, but Snips & Snails did that. Sure they did that because they took Trixie boasting about defeating an Ursa Major at face value, but also they're elementary age children.

Where are there parents, and why can they get out of their houses and into the wilderness to approach dangerous, magic, wild animals in the middle of the night?

Just because Ponyville is such a small town that no one understands what a stage magician is, and what that job entails, doesn't mean Trixie was a villain in her introductory episode.

Trixie is an entertainer, if you don't like the entertainment she's giving, you guys can just leave and ignore the show she's putting on?

But during her original show it seems like most of the mane six ponies are just complaining that Trixie is bragging a lot, and it starts being said right after her opening line of being "the great and powerful Trixie", and then Rainbow Dash just literally starts heckling her.

Then when Rainbow Dash ends up humiliated, Applejack tries her hand at literally trying to out perform the professional entertainer, and it's the same for her. And then it's the same with Rarity.

They're all concerned with trying to put this literal stage magician "in her place" more or less, but if this was real life and someone tried to do this at a magic show, they'd 100% be escorted off the premises.

Our heroes spend like the first half of this epsidoe harassing a stage magician who's just trying to do her job.

It's shown that in the aftermath, Trixie was turned into the town laughing stock, her wagon, her home, was getting vandalized, and it got to the point she had to leave town.

They ruined her reputation, so she had to take up working on a rock farm instead of getting to work in stage magic, her passion and special talent. Something we hardly, if ever, see ponies do in Equestria.

Then they wanna be all shocked when she comes back for revenge with the Alicorn amulet.

No shit she came back for vengeance using a corrupting magic amplifying artifact.

They turned her job and reputation as an entertainer into some kind of magic power dick measuring contest, and then ruined her life as a result, because Twilight (and her friends) didn't like her attitude.

Also, Twilight forgives Trixie the most reluctantly out of any other redeemed evil unicorn, and all the others did much worse than Trixie, when she was in her right mind and not influenced by the Alicorn Amulet, ever did.

Both Sunset and Starlight do much, much worse things than Trixie did, without any kind of magical corrupting influence like the Alicorn Amulet even being involved, and they're forgiven instantly by Twilight. While with Trixie she has to stop and think about it before forgiving her.

Trixie's biggest and least forgivable sin in Twilight's eyes is that she's annoying and Twilight doesn't like her personally.

The whole plot line is even more irritating, because Twilight uses what is essentially stage magic to beat Trixie during the Alicorn Amulet episode.

Because then it's not even that the mane 6 doesn't understand stage magic, and the idea that stage magicians ham things up and lie to sell a performance.

They just decided they hated Trixie after hearing the opening line of her stage show, and then they ruined her career because they didn't like her.

Hundreds of Beavers is one of the funniest damn movies I've seen in a long time. A mix of Looney Tunes cartoons, wilderness epics, video games, and old-time silent comedy, it's 108 minutes of non-stop, rapid-fire slapstick with barely any dialogue that gets going in the first five minutes and never lets up until the very end, constantly escalating its jokes into the ridiculous in ways that never failed to put a smile on my face. It's the kind of movie where, at nearly two hours, I should've gotten bored given my distaste for comedies that run overly long, but just as John Wick: Chapter 4 managed to pull off the feat of maintaining non-stop action movie energy for nearly three hours, this movie had me laughing out of my seat constantly. If this movie is playing anywhere near you, be it in theaters or on VOD, you owe it to yourself to seek it out.

The plot is simple. In the rugged forests of 19th century northern North America, applejack maker Jean Kayak loses his farm in a comic mishap and now has to survive in the winter wilderness with his limited wits, whereupon he eventually crosses paths with an army of beavers building... something a bit more elaborate than a dam. The only outpost of civilization for miles around is a fur trading post, where Jean both trades pelts for equipment and sets out to win the heart of the owner's beautiful daughter, who's also the trading post's furrier who skins all the beavers he brings them. From that setup, we get a constantly escalating series of comic mishaps and set pieces as Jean sets out to trap rabbits, beavers, and other woodland critters while they in turn try to outwit him -- not a difficult feat, as it turns out. This is a film that runs on cartoon logic where realism takes a backseat, with holes in the ground serving almost as a portal network in the forest and both Jean and the beavers building increasingly outlandish contraptions to kill each other with. This film doesn't have an MPAA rating, but if I had to give it one, I'd probably give it a PG-13, with some light sex jokes (specifically one involving the trader's daughter) but nothing explicit and all the beaver death presented in an extremely slapstick manner that's more Wile E. Coyote than Red Dead Redemption.

Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, the film's co-writer alongside its director Mike Cheslik, plays Jean, and he is an immediately larger-than-life figure, a parody of a 19th-century outdoorsman and hunter-trapper who starts the film cocky and dimwitted and eventually turns into a cackling madman as it goes on. Working entirely without dialogue, he delivers a phenomenal comic performance purely through his expressions as Jean is subjected to every indignity under the sun in his quest. The entire cast understood the assignment, but this was the guy who had to carry the whole film on his shoulders, and after this, I'd happily pay to see him in other films. No less important, however, were the titular beavers, all of them, together with most of the other animals in the film, played by humans in furry animal suits. If Jean is like Wile E. Coyote or Elmer Fudd in live-action, then they're like Bugs Bunny or the Roadrunner, their obviously human proportions adding to the sense of these creatures as mischievous little critters who seem to be enjoying the torment they put Jean through. The overall aesthetic of the film, shot in black and white with gleeful disregard for realism in its special effects, not only makes the painful slapstick that Jean is constantly subjected to feel, well, more slapstick even as it touched on some surprisingly dark areas (including the funniest scene of an animal getting skinned you'll ever see), it also creates the feel of watching a live-action video game, specifically a mix of an open-world RPG with Jean's quest and accumulation of gear and a Super Nintendo side-scroller with the fantastical environments he goes through in that quest. This was a longer-than-usual comedy, but it was one that, between its non-stop onslaught of jokes and the constant progression of its story, never got old or felt like it was spinning its wheels.

The Bottom Line

Great comedies are hard for me to review without giving away the best parts, and this was a great one. I expect everyone involved with this movie to get a lot of attention going forward, such was the great time I had watching it. This is probably gonna be on my personal "best of 2024" list when the year is up, and I'm telling you now: go see it.

2024 Media I’ve Experienced #3:Transformers/My Little Pony:Friendship In Disguise

My relationship with Transformers and MLP is complicated, I was never into either as a kid purely out of stigma from the Michael Bay Transformers movies or the reputation behind Bronies. I have watched Friendship is Magic in 2021 and I loved it and only recently have I gotten into G1 Transformers in October 2023 getting to Season 3 and I have watched the original movie.

As for this crossover I think it’s just good. Each comic has 2 stories revolving around two characters from both series teaming up like Rarity and Arcee, Spike and Grimlock, or Fluttershy and Discord fighting Soundwave. The art while made to be overly cutesy to the point of making the Transformers look cute still looked nice and had the same charm that some of the Friendship is Magic comics had. One of the main problems is that the Mane 6 and other FiM are always stealing the spotlight from Transformers characters, being the characters that always save the day and have way more screen time. Don’t get me wrong they are more recognizable characters to kids at the time compared to the 80s Transformers but it sometimes feels like MLP feat. Transformers. But I do like how these characters interact with each other: Fluttershy befriends the bots inside Soundwave and they turn on Soundwave and Rumble, Pinkie Pie hosts a cooking show with Gauge and they don’t really like each others food due to them being ponies and robots, and Applejack rounds up the entire Apple family to get rid of the Insecticons infesting her farm. Overall while it feels more appealing to those who like My Little Pony more, I found myself enjoying it from the perspective of a person who only recently gotten into these franchises. 7/10

Death Battle is officially canon...

The first story has the Wonderbolts teaming up with the Decepticon Planes. And we have a confrontation with Rainbow Dash and Starscream. Death Battle has Rainbow Dash win and honestly I still think she does despite the lightspeed feats the recent DB gave Starscream. But as confident as Rainbow Dash is in going 2-0 against Starscream, Spitfire is worried.

It is odd that Spitfire say they’re only stunt ponies when they have come to help in situations. Granted, as badly as the Guard Ponies but they were helping. So the writer of this story is Ian Flynn. You may know him better for his Sonic work, but he has written MLP stories before... Feats of Friendship... I will say I do enjoy his Sonic works.

Back to the plot, the two groups have to capture the Sombrafied people and Starscream suggests bombardment. The other Decepticons disagree because there are fellow Decepticons among them. So that’s when Rainbow Dash makes the suggestion: The Wonderbolts create a cover doing the Barometric Bomber into a Crop Duster followed by Dash doing a Sonic Rainboom. That’ll cover the Planes to fire the missiles to capture the mind controlled people.

It works as everyone cheers for Rainbow Dash over Starscream. Even the other Decepticons. In the second story, written by the person who made Gauge, Applejack is wandering the Cybertronian Desert when she runs into a Transformer called Wildwheel. He’s from Cyberverse apparently and they just added him to the story. I don’t blame them because he screams cowboy.

Applejack is trying to find a way home. Wildwheel don’t like people on his land. So they’re at an impasse. Before they can duke it out, they take out Quickstrike in one strike each. In what seems to be a second attack, Applejack is surprised she’s in one piece. That’s because Wildwheel took out Skids before he could attack AJ. Seeing these Sombra controlled beings as a bigger threat, he decides to team up with his fellow Cowboy and the two walk into the sunset.

This issue is just fun. Rainbow Dash and Starscream officially interacting. And AJ teaming up with a cowboy in a cowboy setting is just really fun. And the next issue continues that fun where another Decepticon from another Transformer series shows up. And he is a complete knock out.
