Y'know what? Fuck you- *Full Parties your WAA lawyers and assistants*
Credits to @locke-rinannis for the FFXIV Trust Banner template :D
Rambling for each choices under the cut + alternate Charley The Plant banner:
GNB Phoenix: I had thought PLD would work for the whole 'truth and justice' schtick, but I don't want him to have the same class as Edgeworth (also a PLD in my mind) so I went for something 'out there'. Reckon GNB's good cuz, imagine those evidences and frequent "Objection!" are his literal bullets while he goes up close to the opponents.
MNK Mia: Case 1-2 aside, I always headcanon Mia have at least some form of self-defense via hand-to-hand combat given that her concept arts revolve around making her a biker attorney.
MCH Apollo: Perceiving + won't you believe it, Chord of Steel. I always imagine Apollo would be the MCH to Klavier's BRD and (maybe) DNC Nahyuta.
DRK Athena: Unironically couldn't think of a better job for Athena other than DRK. Just imagine a Dark Knight that, not only listen to their own heart, but also listen to other people's heart.
SMN Maya and Pearl: Spirit channeling. Full stop.
AST Trucy: Troupe Gramarye has card motif, so it's only logical that Trucy would get the card-themed job (her astroglobe is her magic panties lmao). There's also another reason but that'd be going into spoiler territory...
WHM Charley: LET THE DAMN PLANT HEAL! Also because WHM is the most connected to nature compared to other healer jobs. Cordyline Stricta is his species name but I figured it'd be a cool sounding job name lol. I made two banners for Charley, actually. The other is this one:
#Final Fantasy#Final Fantasy XIV#FFXIV#Ace Attorney#Gyakuten Saiban#FFXIV Trust#FFXIV Trust System#FFXIV Duty Support#FFXIV Trust meme#Phoenix Wright#Mia Fey#Apollo Justice#Athena Cykes#Maya Fey#Trucy Wright#Pearl Fey#Charley the Plant#graphics#edit for template link incoming cuz I'm still afraid tumblr's gonna swallow my post if I post a link here

Oh, Thancred.
Took him to the second dungeon and witnessed as he stubbornly stood in the death wall around the outside of a boss after being knocked into it, superboliding like a boss to live through it and absolutely refusing to move.
I fuckin love that guy.
#ffxiv#thancred#it was just a silly AI bug but it's so on brand for Thancred I can't knock it#I love the trust system

VIth legion engineer unit trust party.
architectus ordinum: aquilinus lux silvius.
a gun wielder with additional magitek weapons as support. favours the magitek bit and a replica-sized armoured weapon. from his position of engineer officer, he has come to possess and occasionally use a gunblade as well.
legionarius: tacitus oen urbicus.
a gladiator-style tank with a basic shortsword and lantern shield. he heads the party and takes damage first, but as commander, aquilinus is the true leader.
medicus: octavia jen corvinus.
utilises scientific garlean medicine to cure allies. slower than aetheric healing, but can be highly effective.
architectus: renatus jen amata.
also a gun wielder, he and aquilinus often switch roles - one focusing on magitek piloting with the other as a ranged firearm user. because the guns require reloading, covering for each other proves a helpful strategy in overcoming the inability to use automatic aetheric bullets.

Hey Penny. Between you and a couple other sources, I've been getting really into FFXIV. There's no chance I'm going to be able to catch up before Dawntrail. I'm still doing post game ARR getting ready for Heavensward, but I'm still having a blast and have been bugging some friends to play with me, so thanks for getting me into a new hyperfixation I guess.
YEAAA im so glad to hear it! sincerely do not worry AT ALL about catching up before dawntrail. there's still gonna be a lot of new stuff once the expansion launches for u to enjoy like the visual update and the system changes to glamour! just keep taking the progression at ur own pace! :D you'll get there eventually and youll be glad you took ur time, trust me as someone who chose to take TWO YEARS to catch up to shadowbringers haha. it was so much slower than i had any reason to take it, but it was all worth it cause pacing myself out to my own taste allowed me to savor the journey. and the game really is ABOUT the journey. it's absolutely not one of those "the game begins at max level" kind of MMOs.
hope u continue to love it and that u can find some friendlies to play with too!!

Now that I'm back on FFXIV, I got unexpectedly strong feelings about the call for "innovation" of the game, which often just feels like people wanting another WoW clone.
I've been through this with another game before: back in 2012 or so my previous go-to MMO, Old-School Runescape introduced what they called "Evolution of Combat", making the combat of the game more similar to cooldown-based MMOs like World of Warcraft.
For a long time I wanted Runescape to have "more interactive" gameplay, but what we got was much less distinct and it snuffed out the game's long-standing identity, which had its own charm.
And as a result, the game lost a huge chunk of its playerbase just to essentially chase a trend.
And so much of that desire for "innovation" actually feels like people wanting another generic copy of that game they percieve to be "better", for whatever reason.
And I hope FFXIV's team is really measured and careful about this kind of feedback — I trust them to because they usually are, but above all I really want FFXIV to be FFXIV.
I don't want them go give up on story (a core element of the game's identity in my eyes) because people have prejudices towards the voice actors or more validly, they have issues with the story from a critical standpoint.
I want them to look at the issues people have within the game's own ecosystems and address them from there.
For a few common criticisms I've seen:
- What can you do to make the levelling journey more substantive from a gameplay perspective, where story is broken up by just about the right amount of gameplay?
- What are the elements of the story that can be improved? How can they shift what they are doing to improve the pacing of the narrative and make sure every leg of the story keeps you engaged?
- What can they do to make job design more distinct between playstyles within the game's own systems?
This kind of scorched-earth feedback feels extremely defeatist and boring. We had a few missteps, so let's just give up on this entire decade plus long history!
I think when people say they want "innovation" in this context, they're actually just upset there isn't more content.
And that can be fixed without demolishing the unique identity of the game, too.
I also think a subset of players kind of discovered that they actually don't really like FFXIV "as a game" and their solution is to just scrap it for a game they do like, when in truth not everything should be for everyone and it is entirely possible this game isn't for them no matter what it does while staying true to itself and that's okay.
I also think getting tired of a game you've played for 10 or 8 or even 5 years is natural. I think few games, no matter how much they innovate with their updates, could keep you engaged forever. Sometimes it's time to move on.
I suspect I might get tired of this game in a couple of years, that's just how consuming media works.
And even now, as I'm slowly working through everything I want to within the game, I think I might eventually just sub every main patch or even every couple of patches (or more).

I really wanted to love Dawntrail. I loved Tural, I loved Wuk Lamat, & I loved all the original things that they introduced in this expansion. However, I still left MSQ feeling unsatisfied.
A lot of players feel the same way, but they pin the blame on Wuk Lamat instead of the real culprits of Dawntrail's mediocrity— the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.
(TLDR: this expansion should've had a non-Scion majority cast of companions)

Wuk Lamat doesn't have enough supporting characters around her that have good chemistry with her or who fit nicely into this story about learning about the other cultures & connecting with the other peoples of Tural.
The Scions can't & don't really contribute to Wuk Lamat's (or Koana's, or Erenville's, or…) character development, so their main role becomes looking &/or smiling at each other knowingly in stilted pauses of cutscenes that are focused on a non-Scion character, or to fill the role of Trust/Duty Support NPCs. This heavily drags down both big & small moments in the story & I think that it's the origin of the many complaints about Wuk Lamat being on screen too much.
I get the feeling that the developers included all of the Scions in place of well written, new companions because of some obligatory most marketable/popular character inclusion &/or they just didn't have faith in the player base being interested in any other long-term companions they could cook up for this next story arc of FFXIV.
Despite their attempts to justify the inclusion of the Scions, I just can't suspend my disbelief when it comes to most of them coincidentally ending up on Tural after disbanding & going their separate ways after Endwalker, & again after Endwalker's post-patches. They've become a crutch that is holding back FFXIV's story after the end of the Hydaelyn-VS-Zodiark arc.
If they had bothered writing a new supporting cast of companions that actually had some chemistry with Wuk Lamat, Koana, Erenville, & so on, that were much more invested in & connected to the Promises' causes, Tural, & Alexandria, we would be much more inclined to care about these characters, places, & story beats, & MSQ would have been leagues more impactful than it is.
Sure, let the Warrior of Light, Krile (who wants to track her grandfather's activity overseas), & G'raha(who we have been promising adventures to for the last two expansions) go to Tural as Wuk Lamat's foreign allies in the rites.
Instead of Alphinaud & Alisaie insisting they join Wuk Lamat's crew, why not let Wuk Lamat recruit Turali hunters/warriors to her cause as she completes the rites? She would have had much more characters to get along with & learn from that could actually contribute to her character development & Dawntrail's story.
Instead of recruiting Thancred & Urianger, why doesn't Koana recruit one or more of his combat-capable friends/peers from his days at the studium? It makes more sense than two strangers that are conveniently Scions, & we would learn more about Koana in a more natural way besides.
Instead of Estinien conveniently coming along for MSQ 97+, why don't some of the Alexandrian rebels who want to put an end to Zoraal Ja's reign & the regulator system actually join us in battle when we go to fight him & then go to shut down the supercomputers motivating Sphene-bot to harvest all life outside of Alexandria? They deserve to play a bigger role than just being cannon-fodder to push the plot forward or part of Gulool Ja's cast of baby sitters.
Instead of Y'shtola showing up just to explain interdimentional portals, why don't we allow other characters to be intelligent enough to reach those conclusions?
We're going on new adventures after the conclusion of the Hydaelyn-VS-Zodiark arc, so why aren't we getting enough new characters to carry that new story too?
Heavensward was great because the story was carried by our Coerthan & Dravanian companions.
Stormblood was great because the story was carried by our Othard & Gyr Abanian companions.
Dawntrail was mediocre because Wuk Lamat was forced to hold the story up alone most of the time.

Your fantasy AU sounds fun… Do you have any other thoughts?
Mostly just world building if I'm being honest. The real spicy thoughts could count as spoilers so I'll try to put some fun things first before the building block stuff.
Yuu has a lot of physical damage on their body, and a pendant they're extremely protective of but don't remember why. I had a specific idea for that pendant was in the first outline but since I'm not 100% on this being a JadeYuu fic anymore I'm keeping it vague.
Yuu has some vague memories of being in a coma and several people talking to them, but they don't know who they were or what they talked about. It really hurts their head to think about, but they truly trust Idia and aren't afraid of him or Ortho. Somehow they know neither of them are responsible for what happened... or maybe they just don't blame them?
Idia is the one who brought Yuu to his and Ortho's house, but not everyone who should knows that they're there. Ortho doesn't know how Idia knew where to find them and has decided to not ask questions.
Ramshackle Party currently consists of Ace, Deuce, Yuu, and Ortho! Jack, Epel, and Sebek might join later but I'm undecided if they'll be permanent or temporary members. Ace is meant to be a rogue, Deuce used to be a barbarian who has been training under Trey to try and be a proper knight, Ortho is an alchemist, and Yuu is a mechanist a la FFXIV. Or gunslinger if you prefer that. Grim still follows them around and insists he's a great mage but his magic is... well you know.
Oh and Jack is a druid, Epel is an unwilling palidan/squire, and Sebek is also a palidan sworn to the oath of the crown.
Speaking of Trey, he and Riddle are influential members of the Queendom's royal guard, with Riddle being the Commander and Trey being his Second. Cater used to be a freelance information broker who has settled in the Rose Court as the chief of it's spy network, but he's publicly known as a semi famous bard. Neither Ace or Deuce know his real job ha.
Speaking of information brokers, Azul is still a merchant. He doesn't have a monopoly on physical goods since Sam is still here, but his information services can't be beat. He's actively involved in mapping the labrynth floors and has a lot of pull within the Adventure's guild. The twins still work with him but Floyd like to run off and explore the labrynth on his own for funsies sometimes.
Leona is actually a fairly influential politician in this AU, he's lacking the color scheme but he's in his Duke of the North era. He's known for being the first real adventurer in the labrynth, but how that came to happen, and all of his current personal life, are unknown to the general public. He sends Ruggie to bother Idia a lot.
No one knows how many floors the labrynth has, the S.T.Y.X. keeps detailed track of the known floors and assigns them a difficulty ranking based on things like terrain, monsters, weather etc. The Charon units are stationed at all known entrances to check if people trying to enter have the proper adventurer rank and to keep an eye out for dead mages.
Speaking of that, only mages can be resurrected if they die in the labrynth. Magicless people do occasionally venture in, but usually as merchants and never past floor 10.
The Adventure's Guild has a ranking system that determines how deep into the labrynth you're allowed go. Idia is an Obsidian ranked adventure, which prevents him from forming a party with Ortho who is only Bronze rank. Idia's party he gained that rank with has since disbanded, which makes things annoying for him as adventures are required to form a party with a minimum of four people before adventuring. Ortho has only really met one of Idia's previous party members, but he looks up to him a lot. Idia never talks about the other ones.
I have an idea for what I want to do with Malleus but it's a bit... weird? And I'm not 100% sold on it yet. I need to think more. But I know Briar Valley doesn't have much of a presence in the Labrynth or it's nearby town as they have been able to prevent it from spreading into it's territory. Silver and Sebek do occasionally participate in some of the exploration of the lower levels S.T.Y.X does though.
#<3 asks#twisted wonderland x reader#twst x reader#fantasy au#to be clear i know what's wrong with yuu i just haven't decided on who is “responsible”#or if i want it to be vague and write a general route and then add scenes w specific characters

I absolutely love your FFXIV character charms, they're so cute! If you're planning to make any more Dawntrail NPCs down the line, could I request Shale?
Hmm I'm not sure! The charms are themed on the Duty Support/Trust system, and since I don't think Shale has a canon class idk if I could make her fit yet 🤔 But I'll keep your request in mind!

nine people i'd like to know better
Tagged by @salemssimblr 💖💖💖
Last Song: Timber by Ke$ha & Pitbull
Favourite Colour: Green, easily. Specifically, more jade-ish range of greens, but I also love a good ‘OH GOD MY EYES’ vibrant lime green, as well.
Currently Watching: Jack diddly. I’ve really fallen out of watching much TV for...A LONG time now. My ADHD has commitment issues (that keep getting worse) when it comes to watching new shows.
Currently Reading: See above rofl.
Sweet, Spicy, or Savory: SPICY. My father was someone would would drink straight from the Tobasco bottle, and I inherited that shit (well, in my case, not Tobasco specifically because I hate the FLAVOR, not the heat). Recently I put what I’d consider a ‘mild/moderate amount’ of cayenne pepper on some lackluster chili to improve it, and my mom made the grave mistake of taking a bite of it, and she was just about ready to follow the light to the pearly gates 🤣 When I told her that’s mid-range spicy for me, she looked UTTERLY horrified and went ‘I didn’t think anything could be spicier than that!’ Oh sweetie...no.
Relationship: Nope and probably never will tbh – at least, I’m not going to seek one out, because between being ace and my serious health issues that would almost guarantee someone getting sick of my ass FAST even if they didn’t mind asexual bit. If it happens randomly, though, sure – I’m not adverse to it.
Current Obsession: I guess working on my FFXIV sims save, now that I’ve found a reliable system to make them look close enough to the originals to at least be recognizable.
Last Googled: ...Probably was my attempt to find some masc-frame stacked bracelet CC. Or finding the eyeglasses slider for Thancred’s god-awful hot weather wear I based off his level 100 trust glamour. Most my searches lately have been INCREASINGLY NICHE CC/mod bullshit rofl.
Currently Working On: Bouncing between grinding cosmic exploration in FFXIV (getting extra rewards from the gamblerabbit to give my friends who don’t like crafting!), and working on continuing to sort the hellpit of my cc archives in hopes of a PROPERLY cleaned and organized mod folder (one day because boy is THAT one hell of a pipe dream).
Gonna tag a few folks I've seen in my activity feed recently-ish 💖 But no one's ever obligated to do it if they don't want to, of course! @misspepeshi @pigeonesque @imeepysims @necile

thoughts on all the DA4 news this past week, from a tired old veteran who's been wandering the bloodied plains of the DA fandom since Origins' release:
I still don't believe that this game actually exists and won't until it's in my hand, in my PS5, I've clocked 50 hours, and I hit credits.
After the news came out that there were 7 companions, I told a friend I would need a solid 4/7 of them to be pre-existing characters in the canon. Harding, Neve, Lucanis, and Emmerich put it at exactly that number, so good show there.
The "Hero Shooter" character reveal trailer was a massive mistake. BioWare and the influencers they're paying had to spend the past two days doing frantic PR to convince people that the game doesn't actually look like that, it's not indicative of the game's tone, it definitely feels like Tevinter Nights and not Fortnite, and it's not a fee-to-pay live service game. They should have led with the gameplay video.
All of the people freaking out about Lucanis being labelled a "Mage Killer" just goes to show that DA discourse truly is a circle. (Also, read "The Wigmaker Job", it's so good.)
The dialogue suuuuucks. Wow, it's been a while since I've encountered a game that respects its audience's intelligence this little. [Earthquake] Harding: "The tremors are getting worse!" [demons show up] Neve: "And we've got demons!" Is BioWare expecting the core player base to consist of people who have never encountered media before? The extent to which the game over-exposits is quite actually mind boggling. I'm genuinely curious if there's anyone who watched this video who didn't come out of it feeling insulted by the game's lack of trust that you have basic cause-and-effect recognition skills. I know people like to bandy about "media literacy is dead", but surely it hasn't gotten so bad that players need to be told out loud "Watch out for lightning" when a boss shoots lightning at them. I'm hoping this was just included for the sake of the gameplay video, but several of these very bad lines seem pretty integral to what's happening on screen, so I guess we'll see.
The dialogue and voicing for the trash mobs is especially bad. I hate to say the word, but I truly think "cringe" is applicable here.
Nice FFXIV reference. (Listen, if this game is going to play follow-the-leader with any one other game, since apparently DA can't get away from that habit, FFXIV is the one I'd want them to chase. Certainly a better fit than Overwatch.)
The battle system seems fine. Reminds me of DA2's, which was perfectly cromulent. Sincerely, I don't expect deeply satisfying gameplay from DA, they've never delivered it before, no need to start now. Passable is fine.
Happy to see the DA2 dialogue wheel return too. Hope that means the invisible personality system comes along with it.
No rivalry system :( Again :(((((
Seriously though, the marketing for this game is a massive mess and their marketing lead should probably be out of the job. All of the news from this week has led to increased confusion about what the game is, what it's called, whether it is DA4 or not, whether it's a single player RPG or not, whether it's an effective franchise reboot or not--and they're all but shadow-dropping it (theoretically) after 10 full years of releasing no other Dragon Age games. This franchise has close to no momentum (many people considered it outright dead until this week), and now that they're ready to start actually talking about DA4, they've completely stumbled out of the gate and given themselves only 3-6 months to come up with a PR plan to correct for that. Embarrassing, frankly.
I guess that's it. The new gameplay video has returned my mood on DA4 from "absolutely the fuck not" after the character reveal video back to a resounding "I nothing this game", which is...actually maybe a worse place for me to be. The last time I went into game feeling a hollow nothing from the promotional materials, it was FFXVI, and we all know how that turned out for me. Anyway, in conclusion:

#dragon age 4#not being a hater this is just how dragon fans talk about dragon age#but also i am being hater#as far as i'm concerned bg3 is da4

Been reading through some of your FFXIV posts on a whim and I just remembered a couple of your “Ysale should’ve lived” posts and I was wondering. If she were to join the Trust party, what’d you have her as?
First answer of Thaumaturge/Black Mage makes sense but then we have Y’shtola and G’raha to make a Black Mage trio
Paladin would be cool since she does do that in Heavensward dungeons but there’s still that overlap with G’raha
I had a partial thought of Bard since Shiva does use a bow in her fight but I’ve also seen a couple cool posts a while back when the new HW duty supports were announced and that Ysale’d be a tank that had her as a Dark Knight
That is a good question and I am probably not the best one to answer it since I haven't yet used the Trust system very much! I know that in Duty Support Ysayle's unique class is "Oracle of Frost" which can be either tank or magical DPS. I think that if Ysayle became a Scion and stuck around for later expansions, it would be neat for her to pick up a new class as many of the other characters do. We'll assume that we want it to be something unique since it seems like they generally try to avoid class overlap in the Trust system (G'raha and Y'shtola being the only exception).
So when I look at the current Trust avatars I notice a glaring absence of physical ranged DPS, which makes Bard my first choice! I think it can fit her character too, as Ysayle's role in ending the Dragonsong War was in some ways that of a storyteller, bringing to light a long-forgotten history. As she comes to terms with the fact that she cannot truly become Shiva, perhaps she chooses to honor her patron saint instead by telling her story in song?
She's going to need a new look, of course! Please forgive my bad posing, but
Ysayle, the Dragonsinger.

Knocking out some wondrous tails before Dawntrail to turn in for exp once early access hits. Decided to do Tower of Zot with the trusts so I could collect some gear for my retainers. I really do think the trust system is fun. Sometimes you can afk and they will still kill everything lol. 😂 I wish we had more posing options inside though.

On another note, I met up with a long time gaming friend. We've been friends since Pangya days (old MMO golf game) and we actually met up in Japan at one point when I was visiting. He got into FFXIV recently and is super addicted. We're on different data centers but thanks to Materia DC we were able to meet up and add each other to our friend lists! 😄
