honestly the debate about whether feyre was qualified or not to be high lady wouldn't be such a big deal if the story stopped trying to frame her as the best at everything. it's ok if the only reason she is initially made high lady was to make her rhys' equal in the sense that he does not hold more power over her, and technically, legally, cannot command her, or force her to do anything. she's his mate, so he feels comfortable doing that very early on into the relationship. it's a statement of his love and trust of her, or rather, his respect of her as her own person. but as @ofbreathandflame elaborates on here, it doesn't actually say anything about feyre herself, and to claim that she has done something to earn being high lady causes problems and conflict, because, well, she didn't. she didn't earn the title at all. there are qualities she possesses that may give her the potential to be a good leader, but she is not there already.

and then of course there's the problem that even if the story focused on rhys 'making feyre his equal', there's still confusion, because she fundamentally is not his equal. and it's never elaborated on because sjm can't without highlighting the contradictory nature of it all, but rhys did not arbitrarily become high lord because he earned the support and was sworn in. it's not clear when a high lord begins his reign officially, but it's implied that it starts when the magic 'chooses' them. the magic chose rhys, not feyre, and that fact will always mean that he holds some level of power over her. and that's a whole other topic with no real solution, but i don't think it would be as much as a problem if the story didn't try so hard to insist that that dynamic did not exist at all.

and to be clear im not trying to criticise or shit on feyre, this is more in defense of her than anything. girl deserves better than being lied to.

Governess Fay has been in charge for damn near a century, and she's still chaotic good about her responsibilities

straight up, Blakk once tried to buy out New Neo, only for Fay to laugh him out of her office because New Neo makes more gold than god

Blakk had wanted to buy New Neo and turn it into a Dark Water farm, and major strong hold. but again was laughed out of office.

this led to him digging though New Neo's constitution and finding out he could challenge the Cavern Head to a set of three challenges for ownership.

^[technically the figureheads/leaders can't participate, they have to pick three induvial to participate in their place for each match, a Race, a Talent display and a high stakes Entertainment Duel. Blakk took a demotion as head of Blakk Industries preemptively, giving ownership temporarily to Maurice, before officially issuing the challenge, so Blakk himself could do the third challenge. Loopholes baby]

all Blakk and his team had to do was win one of three matches,

spoiler alert they lost, bad, and where permabanned from New Neo Cavern

the three New Neo-ites who participated where Ace, Doc and Mane, while for Blakk Industries it was, C.C., Saturday and Blakk himself.

this happened between the whole Club Slug thing and the Slug Run, its a whole thing

And yes this is what prompted Blakk to Higher Vance Bolt for the Slug Run

Blakk paid to not have the whole NN-C ordeal monetized, and all footage delated, because it was just embarrassing

Status be damned, Fay wants to deck BOTH Jimmo Shane and Will Shane for very different reasons

Doc (the Cave Troll doctor) is trans, MtF

The Mane line is confusing as shit because technically, while it is considered a 'bloodline mantle', the third Mane isn't actually related to the to the others-

Ace, uses they/them pronouns, and is non-binary. But is in no rush to get top surgery.

^[so, two odd centers ago, this particular ancestor used to the Champion of the Eastern Caverns, and was not too thrilled about it since they were more of a free spirited individual. so when their sibling came of age, and became a Slug-Fu Master, they kind of dumbed responsibilities of Campion(and Joo-Joo) on their sibling, and went off to do their own thing. Some how some way, they found an active Terra Portal, and ended up in the 99 Caverns with no real way back, and ended up befriending a band of traveling entertainers/misfits and they founded New Neo together, and yes, the former Champion did teach his friends Slug-Fu and that ended up being the base of what's now known as the 'New Neo Style', unfortunately no one in modern day has truly mastered the art, or unlocked their Chi, but three individuals Doc, Ace and Mane but to varying degrees]

Julie and the Phantoms and The Bright Sessions almost exclusively at this point, but I also have Percy Jackson and Supernatural fics on Ao3. Back in the day, I wrote a ton of PJO on fanfiction.net and then a handful of fics in like 8 other fandoms.

My JatP Big Bang fic from last year! A lot of shit happens before we get to the happy part but it actually does end really nicely for everyone :)

I feel like I did... once... I do not remember what it was for or about and i'm pretty sure I deleted the comment. which is probably good in the long run that it happens rarely enough that i forget the details.

I occasionally write smut. I do not consider myself good at it. So I often don't post any. Closest I've got is the above linked mark bryant's different trauma fic and its like. five paragraphs in one scene.

I do! Haven't posted a ton, I don't think I have any on ao3, and a lot of what I call a crossover in my head and google docs is just a fandom crossed with ocs @joyandthephantoms and I made up and like to put places.

description, exposition, action, setting. basically all the things you don't need in good fanfic which is why i like writing fanfic :)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

fine if the translation is really obvious from context, fine if in small doses where it wouldn't be suuuper annoying to google the translation. whole conversations i will inevitably skip, although i did read a really cool Captain America fic once where there was some German dialogue and on ao3 the paragraphs were hyperlinked so that you hovered over them and saw the translation.

Percy Jackson! my fanfiction.net accounts are still up, but don't look at them, they're not good /lh.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

not sure there's an easy answer to this! sometimes i write things just to write them and post them just to get them out of my google docs, and sometimes i write things cause the idea won't let me go, and i post them cause i'm really proud and want some validation from strangers (and friends!) on the internet. my favorite one is whichever one I'm most proud of in the moment, which is usually the one I just finished, but even the ones I feel don't hold up as well or that i could've written better, i'm still really proud of, cause i made a hat! This was fun! i haven't been active on this account for a while, but i liked getting back into the swing of things, so if anyone still looks at this blog and actually read this, feel free to send me an ask with more questions/comments about my fics! i always like talking about them :)

Greetings to all from far and wide! Whether you're a long-time follower, a mutual from another platform, or just someone who stumbled in through searches, I offer my sincerest welcome to my humble rhythm gaming abode!! This sideblog is where I share everything I've got to share with regards to rhythm gaming, ranging from new scores to personal comments to reflections on events/sessions! Alas, I'm rather verbose in my passionate writing of these comments, so I sincerely apologize if the scroll seems daunting,,,

For some backstory, I was first introduced to music games in 2011 when my dad arrived with an Xbox 360 w/ Kinect and the latest Dance Central (2010) game. Being only 5 years old at the time, I kinda sucked at the game and was immediately disinterested. But over time, I kept at it until I could 100% complete game on Easy, then Medium, then Hard, an improvement met with more Kinect dance games that I continued to complete and love fondly.

However, it wasn't until 2018 that I started playing my first true rhythm game: "RoBeats!", which (despite being a Roblox game) taught me a ton about other rhythm games through songs and fundamentals. I stuck with RoBeats and osu!mania for some time until I stumbled upon videos of arcade rhythm games in Summer of 2019, and wondered if I'd ever get the chance to play them myself. Then, just as September 2019 began, I visited my local Round 1 arcade with family and saw almost every rhythm game that I'd seen in those videos I saw over the summer. It was a beautifully overwhelming and overstimulating sight, and hyperfixated little 13-year old me was excited to try all of them.

I started visiting whenever I had the chance to exclusively play the rhythm games, slowly warming up to each of them until I settled on my initial least favorite, DanceDanceRevolution. And soon after, I joined this online community of arcade rhythm gamers and had so many beautiful encounters there, from making new long-time friends to even visiting dedicated remote events, ones that filled me with an indescribable euphoria that I just couldn't keep to myself. So as a personal passion project attempt to describe these feelings, I've dedicated this blog to archive every rhythm game score I've gotten since that fateful September 2019, including the aforementioned comments and reflections! I hope through these posts that I can articulate my love and passion for the scene and its art as best as possible, and I hope it can be an enjoyably entertaining scroll for you as well! ...though given that's 5 years of content and counting, it's a rather long scroll, so I apologize in advance or belatedly...

Hello! I saw your post about promoting your fanfiction. Got any tips on how to do something like that for a fellow writer? I do link to my tumblr in my AO3 notes, but got any other suggestions?

Sure, but you got to understand that I am not really doing anything special myself. You also need to understand my philosophy on fanfiction in general.

You don't write fanfiction into a void. You write it into a community. Popularity of fanfictions isn't determined by an author's skills. There's no panel awarding fanfictions merit for imagery or plot structure.

Word of mouth is law. I can actually see spikes in people reading CTB whenever another person mentions me or my fic on their own blog.

But you can't control word of mouth. You really can't. It's about luck and hoping that you not only get noticed by the right people, but that they're willing to let you know that. So there's technically not a lot that you can do change that.

But you can make it easier for people to find you. You can also control how you bring community into your little sphere of the fandom.

A lot of this advice plays into that: how to draw people in and keep them engaged.

Things To Do On AO3:

When linking your Tumblr on AO3, use HTML code to hyperlink it. If you just copy and paste the URL or godforbid just state your name, you're going to be relying on the reader to go the extra mile and when given the option, most people won't.

(Rule of thumb on the internet: make it clean and make it easy.)

Also have a clear Call to Action associated with that link. You can’t just drop it there; you also gotta entice people to click on it and go to your tumblr too. So just tell them what they can find on your blog that's related to what they just read. Some suggestions include offering previews, updates on chapter progress, drabble requests, additional lore tidbits, and (if you're a short fic writer) discussions of upcoming projects.

I have at least once linked to specific posts that I thought readers would like, but I don't plan on doing that again unless it was for stuff absolutely pertinent to the story.

As for more general advice: keep your tags and summary clean. Some people read the tags first, so don't clutter them with too many jokes or meaningless tags. Hit genre, fic tropes, and one or two fandom specific tags. I also add one or two freeform tags that clarifies parts of the premise that you know will draw people in.

(Example from CTB: "Warriors is a very complicated person" and "Warriors does not know Time is Mask")

Only put your summary in your summary. No update schedule, no table of contents, no gratitude for the reader. Keep that stuff in your author's notes.

A good tip for formatting things on AO3 is to remember that most people read fics on their phone. So you have to optimize formatting for smaller screens. That means that chunks of text will look larger than they do on desktop, and large chunks of text are harder to read.

And finally, reply to your comments. Seriously. You gotta do it. No one is going to think you're annoying. Reply to your comments and let people know that you see them, you are grateful that they are there, and it matters to you that they care.

(And extra tip for you is to remember the people who do comment. Develop relationships with them. Tell them that you remembered something they said in chapter 5 so you knew they were going to freak out on chapter 8. Love flourishes in the comment sections of AO3)

Things to Do On Tumblr:

You got to announce when your fic updates, and you can't do a plain personal text post. If people are going to spread the good news about your fic, give them something good to spread around.

I've found that every fandom is a little different about what is and isn't acceptable for announcement posts. I use a story banner, but for something quick and dirty, just hit the Share button on AO3 and change the link to the most recent chapter (it defaults to the first chapter).

Announcement posts need to have clean and simple formatting. Use bullet points, indentation, bold words, etc. for maximum readability.

I don't include everything in the story info box on my announcement posts. I stick to the following: chapter number/title, rating, warnings, pairing (for romance stories only; list the main pairing only) additional tags, and summary.

(I don't include relationships, characters, or fandoms since I assume people are finding this through the tags or other fandom blogs).

On my announcement posts, I hyperlink to new chapters twice: one at the top, one at the bottom. This is so that people don't have to scroll to find the link.

Use the fandom tags. Seriously. Tag the characters, the fandom, the pairings, etc. Tag everything.

Time of first posting really doesn't matter overall, but try to get your first reblog as soon as possible as I find that posts don't appear in tags until they have at least one note. Having a friend reblog; a burner sideblog works too.

Reblog you announcement post multiple times over the next few days. Try to hit the major times of day (morning, afternoon, evening, night), taking into account time difference. This will increase the chances of your followers seeing your posts.

Stop pinning about posts or what not and pin your chapter announcement posts to the top of your page. When people go to your blog, they should know right away that you updated.

If you write fanfiction and you're directing people to your tumblr, congrats! You are now a writing blog. Make more posts about your story. Post deleted scenes. Complain about finding typos. Make memes. Make it big, make it small-- I don't care. Posting about your story keeps people interested on top of fostering more of that community we want.

And if you post about your story and you mention the characters? It's a fandom post! Throw the fandom tags on it!

Interact with other people in the fandom too! Send people asks (off anon!!!), leave replies, or reblog with comments in the tags. Let people know that you're a living being and you're here to interact.

(And, no. You're not being annoying. This is a social media platform. If someone wanted to be left alone, then they wouldn't be making posts. Go interact with people).

We all see those people in the fandom who have, like, 20 anons a day asking questions about their content. And if you're promoting yourself, you probably want to be like that too. Stop waiting waiting for people to ask. Go into this with gusto and start acting like you already have that audience. Not every post is going to hit, but people will know that you're opened to being talked to, and that's going to build up a community of people who are going to stick around to see what you're going to do next with your story.

So remember, don't go overboard with the plugins if you don't must.

In case you were to manually delete those remarks in WordPress, it would take at least an hour or two, maybe longer. However, with WP-Optimize, it only takes moments.

Search and Replace Official description: A simple search for find strings in your database and then replace the string.

Why it is handy? When creating a web site, sometimes the web hosting is not connected to the domain name yet. The URL of this development site might be something such as 111.11.1111/~user/. So during evolution hyperlinks in the material might look like this 111.11.1111/~user/about-us/.
