top 5 blazblue character designs
YIPPEE BLAZBLUE
I feel like my tastes are known but I still will take this chance to gush a bit about the characters and design philosophy of em that Ive always been real fond of :)
No particular order here or else I'll be here all night formatting on mobile. More under the cut!
HAKUMEN it goes without saying I LOVE HAKUMEN'S DESIGN SO MUCH. The taloned tabi, the silhouette of wide pants and closefitted shinguards/torso. The faces/eyes scattered across his armour while the face is totally blank—made more unreadable and inhuman by the slats of neck guard. Fox-ears built into the helm shape to feel both animal and mechanical like antennae...and obviously the longass hair to sell the "tailed" look.
I remember reading really early on into liking BlazBlue—I can't remember the source, come maul me if I'm wrong—I read that Hakumen as a character and design was made when Mori was in middle or highschool, the idea of "what is really cool," and much of those ideas stayed. I not only really respect that and think its charming as someone who still likes MY own designs from that time, but, as it turns out, middle schoolers are still right. Hakumen is very cool. Augh. Fucking? Time travelling fox-robot samurai who's here to kill his brother to save him and also himself because his old self wanted to do the same thing for the wrong reason and thay thought disgusts him. Also him and Tsubaki in general make me start to choke (positive). God ok I have four more guys to discuss. Yes i also like Susanoo but I feel like thats a copout, I like that he's both animalistic and brutal martial arts as the God of War. Anyways CONTINUING
VALKENHAYN R HELLSING I will admit that he is an old man in a suit and that speaks to me but that he's one of the strongest beings alive as a old man in a suit ohh. And he's a werewolf ohhhh. Shifting just his body parts to kick and rip with his claws, quickly leaping back and forth between a normal bone-breaking jab or knee or biting and snarling—the dance between raw force and refined precision and a brutal tear's always been sooo cool to see and think about. I also think his ribbon in his hair moving to his wolfy tail is very cute. A man of sharp extremes from refined to flashing his fangs, human and wolf, cool and very cute. I like him :)
TSUBAKI YAYOI her uniform is so nice uruururururugh. Big cape and the way it drapes around her in combat like wings... Her sword and buckler/Izayoi looking so unique for being a "basic sword and shield for the hero"-type of deal! The eye on her hat's always been really striking too—the only "cold" colours being her and her uniforms eyes.....................Sparing a glance at Hakumen's recurring red eyes for no reason here. Knightly angel women and her flower-like "tassets" hanging off her clothes. Its a uniform which plausibly feels like it could be a uniform—she doesn't have anything uniquely "hers" or "for this female character" while still being really standout and clean. Her design's just really good guys. You can do so much.
Really want to mention her masked look too at least really quick here. my girllllll...
RAGNA THE BLOODEDGE well of course I really like his design. Yeah him being here is partially obligation because I love his character a lot but both things inform each other in the end. Mr Grim Reaper, Enemy of the World, red-and-black with a demon's arm on one side and a rebuilt one on the other. His big red coat and the oversize shoulders! The massive baggy pants—I love the silhouette he has. Blood Scythe/Aramasa/His sword transforming and able to clack around and shift's just. Always been such a cool design. Seithr-powered man, devil-smoke powered man, ashes of your own old dead self-powered man. Ragna is fucking cool auauauuuaghrhg.
And it DOES only make it more charming that he has a good heart, has a bit of a Kicked Puppy charm about him if you can pardon uhh that implication. He is just some fucking guy and he likes barbecues. He is sweet and cares for stray cats. His dad is a cat. He blows up the government regularly. He's a rebel who visually looks really clean if "intentionally trying to look like someone you should think is cool", which is both dork-charming and cute and also actually yeah cool because it's not a visual mess.
I like that his arm underneath is all belts and bandaged—Bloodedge only wearing half his coat for example is such a good look and it shows his clean black shirt underneath, which feels a lot like... Under that big eyecatching rebel coat of his (personality), Ragna's... Ragna, I don't know. I hope that makes sense. Knowing his personality makes me like his design a lot more than if I didn't I think.
As mentionned in Hakumen's block of text however: I already really like chuuni-ass designs, so combined in Ragna he makes me unwell entirely.
And last (I am running out of images allowed per post :((((( )
Kitty peepaw. I am cheating slightly here. I like the Kaka Kittens' big hoods too and think they're very cute and very eyecatching and I adore them always—the kittens especially being stompy little things that travel in packs are really cute. I love that Jubei, actual strongest thing in the world, has the oversized paw sleeves too. There's cat claws bigger than his body stored in what looks like emo kids' oversize hoodie sleeves. He's so simple and still the imagery of that coat gets reused several times over and it looks good every time. Orange kitty peepaw. AND he has an eyepatch, how can I not like eyepatches.
There are my 5 favourite BlazBlue designs :> Sorry if them all being C series or smth is boring wauh. I can spend as long as I want thinkinh about it but I do always seem to come back to these guys, give or take one change depending on the mood. Unchanging faves are Hakumen and Tsubaki for sure and forever though.
#LONG POST#REALLY FUCKING LONG POST#IF MY READMORE BREAKS I AM SO SORRY EVERYONE. I AM PUTTING A BUNCH OF TAGS TO HOPEFULLY DISSUADE SHOWING UP IN MAINTAGS#JUUUUST IN CASE..... ANYWAYS#smellpelt#BB designs have an important place in my heart but these guys especially have a special place in my Brain#To the extent they're a sort of inspiration I jiggle around in there for fun in shapes and clothing and pushing it around/reusing/etc#I dont have much to say about them but I like to think about their design choice: Azrael Kagura and aforementioned Susanoo#Azrael's coat kick esp and the sort of. i guess wrestler aura around him. I can't pick it apart but like it. the pant leg sleeve is neat#Kagura I like holding him up to Jin comparatively. You can read his personality off the difference with the open shirt+I prefer#How Kagura's mantle+loose flappy sleeves look to Jin's. Is it the detail? It feels there's more to 'read' there. I like his ed. of uniform#And while Kag is wearing tight fitted pants I like them more than how thin Jin's legwear makes it look. just personal pref idk#Susanoo (MUST DIE starts playing loudly) it is known.#blazblue#Thank u for your prompt i lov and mis blazblue so bad forever mwah mwah I love you BlazBlue#My asks

HII HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
As promised, here are seven wips from the last uhh 3 years I've been writing dragons book fanfic on my silly gay computer. They're a mix of unfinished/abandoned/in-progress-but-not-that-important-rn
There are summaries in square brackets between each separate fic with a quick description of what the fuck is going on, when it's going on (e.g. book number, where appropriate) and main players/relationships. (plus a fun little word-count and look at the last time i touched the file… yeah, fun… whoops). These have been bolded to hopefully make them a bit easier to see while scrolling at high velocity.
All under the cut because it's too long for me to do that to your dashboards 🫡
[Lucy & David, chatting about author photos post-book 4. 475 words. (Oct 2022 💀)]
“Hang on…”
David paused, finger still wedging the spine of the book open. He was staring at the flap of the dust cover, frowning slightly to himself.
“Did you use my student ID for my author photo?”
Lucy leant in closer. College David was a little younger than David Rain – same dark blue eyes, but with a rounder face and hair that hadn’t been bleached white by his time elsewhere. The dusty brown still crept in at the ends of his hair, where it was now stuck to the inside of his collar.
Lucy couldn’t remember how many times she had taken down her copy of The Nutbeast and stared at the little card. It was odd to compare the man who’d lived only in her head for so many years to the one sitting on the edge of her bed.
He looked tired now. In-her-head-David had never been tired.
“It was the only one mum had.” She said.
It was the truth; Liz had run through his entire film collection and hadn’t found a single photo of David’s face. He’d been more of a landscape photographer – lots of buses and bridges that hadn’t consoled her as a child. Well, a younger child.
David cocked his head to one side, looking decidedly distraught. “But it’s awful – that’s not an excuse!”
She glanced back down, as though the image might have twisted into something else in the time she’d released her focus from it.
Nope. Still David, if a little pixelly.
“It looks fine.”
His hair was staticky and spidering out in a mess of flyaways, and David had a slight manic glint to his eyes, grinning in an angular, uncomfortable way. There might have been a stain on his shirt – it was hard to tell.
“It does not.”
Lucy cocked an eyebrow. “And where did you want us to get another? Your return address isn’t even real.”
He flailed the book wildly, “I don’t even have parents! That makes it double your fault for not having a photo of me.” The cover was still propped open an inch or so, the paper caught on his ring. “There has got to be a better one in this house.”
“Can’t fix your face, David. They’re all going to look like that.”
“This is inhumane!” he sputtered.
Despite it all, Lucy found herself smiling.
“We used it at your… not-funeral too.”
“I’m sorry.” David scoffed, eyes very wide. “You used my student identification photo at my funeral?”
“And where were we meant to get another one? You were gone remember? Can’t exactly call ghostbusters and ask them to snap a photo of you.”
David frowned, nose wrinkling at the bridge.
“I don’t think they do that – they bust the ghosts, remember?”
Lucy rolled her eyes. “You’re a very annoying ghost. Maybe I should give them a ring regardless.”
-----
[Lucy & David, the audacity that some people have to move on and remodel the kitchen while you’re gone, really. 535 words. (March 2023)]
Irrevocably and stupidly, the only words he can get out of his mouth are:
“You moved the fridge.”
It’s not incorrect – it used to push up against the backdoor, and no amount of goodwill could stop you from nearly decapitating Bonny when he pattered through the cat-flap on short notice.
Now, it’s on the opposite wall – plastered in the same old stickers and fridge magnets reminiscent of days gone by. It’s the same fridge where he used to drink straight from the milk carton and look out over the rockery and crooked garden fence, but it doesn’t face the window anymore. David would have to turn fully around, which rather defeats the purpose.
It’s nothing intelligent, nothing profound – so much, so fucking much, has happened in five years and the only thing he can think about is the fridge, Lucy filling her water in the moonlight, barely tall enough to reach the faucet, and the rattling of the entire house in the winter months, post it notes and postcards and crayon drawings of a clan of squirrels.
There are new drawings now – Alexa’s, he thinks vaguely – but it’s not the same. She holds her markers much tighter.
It shouldn’t be a shock. It’s been so, so long since he was last here, but in the same breath it’s as though David had only closed his eyes for a second to rest, and the house has grown and shifted around him.
He knows that this is how things work, he hadn’t expected or wanted them to dig in their heels and sink into the snow with him. It’s a good thing, he tells himself, that things have changed, but he chokes on the inhale anyway.
He’s been left behind.
Lucy leans into the counter, dragging the cuff of her jumper between her thumb and forefinger. She bites the inside of her cheek the same way she did five years ago, but that’s wrong too.
It’s something in her eyes, something heavy and dark that’s never going away – she’s tired, much more tired than a child has any right being, and it seizes something in his chest.
He did this.
She sighs, moving to play with the collar of the jumper instead.
“Bonny likes to be big now and household fridges aren’t really made to withstand the force of a hundred-pound tiger… it got old real quick.”
David wants to say something, to lapse back into the way things used to be, but his mouth betrays him. He nods instead, and Lucy keeps tugging at the green fabric at her neck. It’s his old geography society jumper, he notices absently. It looks older than he feels, silver lettering faded black and brown, eroded away entirely in places. He hadn’t been to many of the meetings, not after truly being inducted into the Pennykettle’s nonsense, but the dusty smell of the common room and their pilfered coffee machine fills his nose.
It makes him want to gag. Where exactly are those members now? The idea of what will become of them if he fails has the prickle of ice rising just under his skin.
How can things be so much the same and so different all at once?

[Henry & David: excerpt from the wider ‘wouldn’t you be mad as hell if you were a normal guy and found out your birth dad is your landlady’s new boyfriend?’ au, post family dinner explosion/revelation. 703 words. (September 2023)]
“Exiled from my own house.” He muttered darkly.
Henry arched a massive eyebrow. “You don’t pay the rent, boy.”
“I do – that is literally the one thing I do.”
“That’s rough, man.” Tam mumbled, hands weighed down by the tall coffee mug he had pilfered. It tipped dangerously as he raised it to his mouth, threatening to douse them all in yet more sludge. Henry frowned and steadied it with one hand. Tam blinked slowly and reset his angle.
“There’re camping beds under the stairs. You can set yourself up in the living room.” Henry narrowed his eyes at the two of them, “You will not be rumpling my upholstery by sleeping on my sofa.”
Tam hummed, setting his mug down owlishly before slogging out of the kitchen. He looked much more jelly than human, and David had half a mind to go and help him before he gave up on assembling the bed and curled up in a heap on the floor. He wasn’t sure if that had been on Henry Bacon’s extensive list of house rules or not.
“Did you know for long?” Henry asked quietly.
The tone took David off guard, breaking him out of his considerations of how comfortable Henry’s plush carpet was and how likely it was Tam was going to get a good night’s sleep in the inevitability that he collapsed from exhaustion.
“Know what?”
“Don’t be stupid boy.” Henry huffed, his eyes softening more than David had ever seen. It was an odd expression for the hard lines of his face. “How long did you know Arthur was your father?”
He laughed.
Turning his wrist to check the face of his watch he answered,
“Oh, about seven hours.”
“Mm, so ruining dinner was a crime of passion then.”
“Or you could say Arthur ruined dinner twenty-three years ago. Ultra-pre-meditated.”
Henry sighed.
“Don’t start writing crime novels, boy. You’re dreadful.” “It must have been a shock to the system then, you’re not one to get angry.”
David shrugged. It sounded almost like a compliment. Two years ago he would have told you with full certainty that dragons were a fantasy. Now they warmed his tea in the mornings. A lot of things had changed in his life since then.
He shifted his mug between his hands and took another sip. The dregs were starting to cool.
“It would have been better if it had been literally anyone else. Arthur’s been so… kind to me since we met and all this… it’s just-” his nose scrunched, “highly contradictory to everything I thought I knew.”
David’s family had come up in conversation before – once Henry Bacon had hold of a thread he yanked and yanked until it came loose, no matter how many loose teeth he took with it. Perhaps that was why he and Tam got along so well.
It was no secret how David felt about the concept of his father. Henry Bacon had shared enough choice words about the man himself that David had to wonder what calculations were running in the back of his mind. Was he unravelling all of his interactions with Arthur, sliding the threads under a microscope? Was he a good man? Honourable?
David didn’t have the answers to that himself.
He shook his head to clear it.
“It doesn’t matter. He’s barely a father – he wasn’t there to raise me and he certainly wasn’t there when I needed him.” He rolled his mug around to observe the escaped leaves. “I think you did a better job at that.”
“Arthur’s… a complicated man. I’m sure you two will be able to have a civil conversation once this is all said and done.”
When exactly does this get to be done? He wasn’t sure anyone could tell him that. Not for all Arthur’s understanding of the universe and all its components therein was there an equation he could use to fix this. Replace x and y and find how he had missed this. To be so impossibly close and so far away at the same time. No doubt, he would have invented time travel before he would have noticed what sat right in front of him.
David hummed into his empty mug.
“Sure.”

[Tam/David, General Pennykettle Clan. David is weird after being resurrected, and everyone has questions about Co:pern:ica. There is another family dinner because those are all I write apparently. Tam and David go for a smoke break. 3067 words. (November 2022)]
“’Not like it can kill me anyway.” He says. “I didn’t eat for four years, it’s not like a bit of smoke will do me in now.”
The silence is suddenly oppressive, and when David looks up the entire damn table is staring at him, slack-jawed. He has missed something.
He quirks an eyebrow.
“What?”
“Four years?” Liz is still holding the plate of roasters, stuck in the motion of sliding more onto her plate with the flat of her knife. There is something akin to real horror in her eyes.
“I was dead for one, yes.”
She extends the plate to him jerkily. “Then you’d better make up for it now.”
Ah! Yes, the human concept of starvation, he’d forgotten that one. Generally pretty upsetting to the average person – makes sense.
David pushes the plate back her way, gentle not to disturb the roasters as he laughs. They’re the herb covered kind and it would be a dire shame to spill them all over the floor, no matter if Bonny might thank him.
“No, really. I’m fine. Had other things to worry about – slipped my mind if anything.”
Other things, yes… let’s say that, shall we?
Arthur has inclined his head towards him in the way that means he’s grabbed the string of an intriguing theory and intends to tug it until the entire tapestry unravels. He gets that look about him a lot.
David shivers despite the British cold always being abrasively hot to him these days. What an odd image to set him on edge.
“Would you call that typical for the Fain? Not needing to sustain a physical body?”
He rolls the unlit cigarette around between his fingers.
“No,” David hums, “I don’t think it’s a Fain thing, I think it’s a dead thing.”
“But you’re not dead now, are you?” There’s a tension in Zanna’s words that he wasn’t expecting. If he were sentimental he might have called it concern. But he’s not sentimental, he’s Fain – he doesn’t do that anymore.
David shrugs. “Not entirely sure if I count as alive either.”
“You do.” She’s quick – always has been to cut off the things she doesn’t want to hear. Zanna has made it clear enough that she doesn’t like the thought that David Rain was never real, that he was some construct given life. He can’t blame her.
“Can we not talk about how you’re dead or not dead.” Lucy snaps, her plate clinking a dangerous tone when she slams down her fork. David flinches at the sound. Tam has his eyes on him again. “You’re finally back and I don’t want to think about -” she glares at the fireplace, “-all that. I just want to have dinner again.”
He feels a twinge of the heaviness and lightness of space winking back at him. The same sensation of holding Bergstrom’s pocket watch in his open hand and staring into its face, and all that that entails.
Good, it seems to say to him, you’re not here to be liked.
“’Course. Sorry, Luce.”
She shakes her head, and seems to think better of whatever was on the tip of her tongue. She picks up her fork again and returns her gaze to the plate,
“Whatever, answer Arthur’s physics questions.”
David slides his Yorkshire pudding onto her plate in some semblance of a peace offering. Lucy douses it in gravy and almost smiles at him.
“It’s probably an… Illumination thing, rather than a Fain thing.” He tucks the cigarette into the pocket of his shirt. With the way Arthur has crossed his hands on the tablecloth there is no way David is going to get a smoke break any time soon. “I was in limbo for a long time, but I remember that my parents used to cook.”
Those eyes are all on him again. Even Bonny has plodded back into the living room to stare at him, though he’s probably waiting for one of their entourage to drop a piece of chicken.
The cat glides under the table, and from the sound of pattering paws David can hear him settle in Arthur’s lap. The professor removes a hand from the table to rest in Bonny’s fur. Then his eyes move from the patch of wall over David’s shoulders to his face.
Right. Being stared at. That’s what’s happening.
“Not my parents,” he corrects. “One of me’s parents.” That’s worse.
“The me that does not have this specific earth body, but existed in Co:pern:ica.” Better? “The me that had parents.” Nope, that’s even worse.
No one looks like they know what to say. He can’t blame them. This whole family thing is a mess.
“We do eat.” He settles on, then shoves a piece of parsnip in his mouth for good measure. He is safe for the next five to twelve seconds, if he really pushes it.
They’re curious, but no one wants to touch that mess, so Arthur breaks the quiet of everyone glancing off awkwardly at various décor, grimacing slightly. “You had mentioned that the Fain don’t do many menial tasks unless they’re unavoidable – if you remember it that way, then you’re likely right.”
“Well, I don’t remember it, but based on Co:pern:ica David, I’d say so.“ Good Godith, what was in that fucking wine? “His parents cooked, so they had to eat. Probably...”
The looks return, so he moves on quickly, waving his hands vaguely.
“Multiple timelines,” he says, “There’s several me’s, doing about the same thing now. Several you’s too. I’m just aware of them because of the d- Illumimation thing.”
Why did you say that?? Now they’re going to want to know-
“There’s multiple of us?” Tam looks at him over the rim of his glasses, half-smirking, “What, am I still a journalist?”
“Uhhh…” Well. “Of a sort. It’s hazy, but I think you worked for the media.”
Don’t say he got arrested, don’t say he got arrested, don’t say he got arrested for treason and left for dead, don’t say he used to look at you with admiration in his eyes, and that stupid overgrown haircut, don’t say you were jealous of the way he looked at Rosa, for God’s sake David you can keep your thoughts to yourself you stupid bastard.
“You guys have a media?”
Oh great, you’ve just made him more interested. Good job, jackass!
David tries to make a non-comital sound in the back of his throat. It comes out strangled. Zanna frowns at him as she sips her wine.
“Very… State-operated, if you get my drift.”
Tam, ever the journalist, has just opened his mouth to probe for more answers when Liz cuts him off. She has piled up the empty plates in her quadrant of the table. David hopes it isn’t obvious that he’s floundering, but from the fact that she’s diffusing the situation he has to accept that it probably is.
“Well, don’t leave us hanging – who were the rest of us,” she laughs, “who was I?”
You used to read me to sleep. You painted the walls of my bedroom green when I said the grey made me sad. You were the only person we knew who made things with her hands instead of Imagineering them. You went to the Dead Lands and made life. You were my –
“You were a potter.”
Tam rolls his eyes,
“God, are we all boring?”
It makes him oddly defensive for some reason.
“Zanna worked at the librarium.”
You know the reason. You knew all of these people in a way they can never know. You’ve loved them every universe you’ve been alive in. You always will. They cannot know that. It would be too hard. It would make you cry, and the Fain don’t cry.
“Librarium?” Arthur asks, Bonny’s round face pouting over the edge of his plate, eyes focused on the sliver of ham across a moat of gravy. It’s safe for now, it’ll take at least another ten minutes for Bonnington to figure out that he can step up onto the table.
“It’s… basically a library, but the books are alive and it’s run by Henry Bacon.”
“Mr Bacon?” Lucy looks frankly appalled at the idea.
“A weird Fain Mr Bacon, yes. I think I – I think the other me was living there.”
“Like when Gwiliana kicked you out.”
David snorts. “Yeah, like the week from hell.”
He shakes his head, re-adjusts course, then looks back to Arthur. “We haven’t had physical books in over a hundred years – the librarium was where they all went, Henry-” he nods to the woman on his right, “-and Zanna kept them in order.”
He sips from his glass.
Probably a bad idea, you’ve been running your mouth all night. Shut up.
“They were bloody tricky bastards.”
Zanna looks at him oddly. Her brows are pinched but she doesn’t seem overtly disgusted with the idea. It’s possibly the first time she has been at least neutral on the discussion of the Fain.
On the discussion of who you are.
“You couldn’t have lived at a library. You would’ve made a pig’s ear of it.” Her voice is not cold – it’s a joke, probably. She thinks it’s funny.
“Oh, I did.” He pauses, tries to recall the details. The librarium is hazy for some reason.
He recalls Rosa and her kicker boots, lying in the grass by the well, firebirds overhead. He remembers being eleven, reading about pianists… then being… twenty? He decides not to poke around too hard in that gap, though its vastness is mildly concerning.
He worries that there is something there that is worse than not knowing.
You felt that way before. When you were first living at the Crescent. You had huge gaps in your childhood. Scattered dates and one or two fixed points. You don’t even know if that was real. You don’t know if you want it to be.
David swallows thickly, “I don’t… actually remember what happened while I was there – while he was there. But he must have been there about ten years – that’s what the memories tell me anyway.”
You wanted me to leave the librarium so I would stop distracting you. You made me daisy chain bracelets and we used to curl up in the hammocks together to read. There wasn’t enough room but I would race you to see who could finish their volume faster. You almost always won, but I paid more attention to the details. I never did understand what was meant to be more or less important – it was in the book, so it had to be relevant, right? Mr Henry said we complimented each other nicely.
David is vaguely aware that he has slipped into a long silence. He watches Tam glance across the table at Zanna. His fingers itch for that cigarette.
“There are two of us left wise guy.” Lucy says, finally pushing her plate away. She hasn’t touched the sprouts. She never does. “What did Arthur and I get up to?”
He pretends to think for a moment, leaning back in his seat. His plate still has a mound of mash and peas. It’ll get cold and start going soggy soon. He hasn’t felt hungry since he died. He’ll still eat it.
David rolls his shoulders.
“Arthur was a physicist – it goes over my head but I think it was something to do with time.” Arthur tips his head not unlike a dog. He would love more details but David isn’t lying when he says he doesn’t get it.
You were my dad. You worked a lot. You did a good enough job when I did see you.
“I think… you had a cool name. It’s on the tip of my tongue”
Lucy snorts. “Boring. Just me left!” She arches a curious eyebrow – the one with the carefully placed slit. “And I better be more interesting.”
This is vague too. She’s young – no, really young – and then she’s… less young? But still a little kid. There’s the same chasm in his memory.
How can I know she’s my sister and have no idea when she was born? How do I have no clue what happened after I left – is it just too close? Do I need to write it down?
At the thought of writing a familiar green snout noses its way into his head. Zookie sits on his desk, looking up at him expectantly. The little dragon taps his pencil on the edge of his pad in a way that betrays some irritation. I can’t believe you’re making me fish through your memories, he’s saying.
Nonetheless, Gadzooks scribbles down his answer, then flips the wire-bound book so David can decipher it.
Angel.
It makes his mouth go dry. What the hell did Lucy have to do with an angel, and why does it make him so uneasy? Zookie shrugs and, as he dissipates like smoke, David takes a long drink.
When he finally has enough sense about him not to melt into the carpet or storm off into the night and never return, he smiles at Lucy.
“You were the most boring child I’d ever met in my life. You liked maths.”
“I still like maths!” Lucy snaps, rolling her eyes. “I’m an engineering student!”
David shrugs, “You literally can’t get more boring, Luce.”
She lobs a pea at him and Liz starts gesturing at the two of them with her ladle. There’s the usual lecture about acting like adults, and how Lucy really should know better by now, but David isn’t listening. His eyes keep drifting to the window, out into the garden. He feels odd, though he can’t place it.
He shakes it off – talking about the Fain, delving into the memories of people who are him but not quite always has him disoriented afterwards – that’s all.
And whatever Gadzooks is on about will either happen or it won’t. He can dwell on it later. For right now, Tam is staring at him over the head of his beer – half empty. That seems a little more pressing than Zookie’s one-word puzzles.

“I’m gonna go take that smoke.” David says, already out of his seat by the time Zanna can send him a wayward glance. She still seems uneasy – she sees something in his face that she doesn’t like, her brows furrow further and she returns to her wine.
Liz sighs, but makes no move to stop him. “Just don’t throw the butt in the bushes,” she says, “I don’t want you setting all of Scrubbley on fire.”
“Will do.”
He sends her a mock salute, then dips around the door into the hallway.
Tam is three feet behind him when his hand is on the front door. “Figured you might need a lighter.”
David looks back to him before pushing the door open. “You are a shock Mr Farrell! A poet and a smoker – Liz will never approve.”
He gets a wry smile in response. “You started it – you’re the favourite ‘round here anyway. We can call you a bad influence on me.” He pats his jacket pocket – it’s the one with the tartan print lining that comes through at the hood and the cuffs. “Do you need that light or not?”
David pushes the door the rest of the way open, then stops it open with his weight.
“I think between us we should be able to manage.”
They sit on the brick wall that lines the entire front side of the Crescent. It’s perhaps a little too low even for David, but it beats standing around in the cold air, shifting your weight from foot to foot until the cigarette is biting your fingers.
Tam extracts a beaten-up silver lighter from his pocket, then fiddles with the latch for a moment. The cigarette resting on his lip wobbles as he swears, failing the ignition several times.
“No juice?”
He sighs.
“Not even a spark.”
David shrugs, “’s alright, I do have a back-up for when handsome journalists don’t have a lighter.”
He leans closer into Tam’s space, cupping his hands in a small bowl.
He had done this before – maybe not in this life, but the echoes of the action were strong enough that he could feel the order of operations like a phantom pain.
He felt vaguely that he was cupping his hands more to protect it from the wind than as a necessary motion. It would appear when he closed his eyes and thought it – dreamt it.
He conjured up the image of a small candle flame, the orange hue and white core, flickering slightly but solid enough in shape and colour.
Someone was talking over his shoulder – several someones, whispery and faint on the wind. The main voice was familiar enough – Liz, but not quite. He chooses to ignore the difference.
He feels the bright heat and the wobbling shape, forces it to become real, then David Rain opens his eyes.
It isn’t that impressive for a little light that has completely shattered several laws of physics. It looks more like David is hiding a birthday candle in his palms. A very small, very shit birthday candle. Been there, he thinks.
Tam, however, had clearly not been there. His eyes have gone wide, and the cigarette looks in serious danger of tumbling straight out of his mouth.
“Fuck me.” He mumbles.
“Not right now.” David says, raising his hands to his mouth.
The flame is real enough to catch, and David is soon offering his palms to Tam. He bends his head to accommodate the spark.
Once the second cigarette is lit, David pulls his hands away from one another, extinguishing the light. Tam takes a drag, still staring wide-eyed over the rims of his glasses.
“Jesus fuck. Have you always been able to do that?”
David laughs. Have I, indeed.
“First time.”
“Christ.”
He takes a drag of the cigarette. Two men puffing smoke on the front door-step of the dragon-potter’s house – it was no wonder that rumours of real, scaly dragons have popped up in the neighbourhood. David imagines there might be more rumours of that calibre soon, but pushes it to the back of his mind.
“You had something to ask me.”
He considers denying it for a moment, then lets it go.
“I did.” Tam says, chewing over the next syllables in his head before he finally lets them loose, “Are you alright?”

[David/Zanna. I hit early series David with the transgenderism beam. Zanna does David’s makeup, she has feelings about it. 1038 words. (31 December 2022… omg happy birthday ‘transes ur gender.docx’)]
It’s a joke.
It’s a joke.
Zanna has joked approximately a thousand times that he has the right face for makeup. That David has nice lashes and deep eyes and a just slightly soft jaw. He is indulging in the joke.
It means absolutely nothing, other than that he has a sense of humour.
In fact, it’s so funny that David is sat stock-still. Committing to the bit and allowing his partner to work her magic is going to make the outcome objectively so much funnier.
It’s a little bit secondary school sleepover – not the type that he’d ever been to, of course, there were a few more dicks and a bit less lip-gloss at those, but the thought remains – David perched on the edge of the bed, Zanna leaning tantalisingly into his space, a look of wicked concentration on her face.
He continues to avoid Zanna’s eyes. If he catches them then he’ll just start laughing, and then Zanna will start laughing, and then they’ll be a mess and the joke won’t get finished. Given the time she’s spent on his eye-shadow, it would be a shame at this point.
Lucy had never really been into makeup, or at least none of the fancy stuff. But she had found the idea of doing him up absolutely hysterical. She’d offered a hundred times but the thought had always struck something deep inside him – annoyance, was it? That she felt like he was a doll to practice on, maybe?
That she would absolutely fuck it up on purpose?
And considering the whole joke is that Zanna’s going to make him look like a girl, what would’ve been the point in fucking it up? They’ve already established that being overly serious is hilarious.
That looking convincingly like a girl when he’s not one is the peak of comedy.
On the desk over Zanna’s shoulder, Zookie huffs. He twiddles the pencil between his paws, scaley eyebrows drawn together.
He flips the page and looks up at David. Whatever he was hoping to see, he does not, and the dragon shakes his head, tapping the book with some impatience.
Hmph, David thinks, if only you had some way to tell me things that we’ve used a dozen times. Or a language we both speak. What a crying shame.
“Alright?”
“Fine.” His voice is a little rough from disuse and nothing else. They have been sat in silence for quite some time.
“Sure?” a brush flicks around the corners of his eyes, “It’s not getting in your eyes, is it?”
“No.”
She snorts to herself, dropping the brush back into a basket of the bastards.
“You’re being very talkative, darling.”
“Sorry, I forgot I was meant to.”
“Relaxing when other people do your makeup, isn’t it?”
David hummed.
“Becca always falls asleep when I do hers. Nightmare when you’re meant to be going out somewhere.”
“Becca?” He tried to conjure an image of Zanna’s older sister in his mind. The result was a woman who was very much normal. Or at least, not someone who dresses remotely like her sister. “Isn’t your style a little… much for her?”
“Oi! She’s not boring, you know. And anyway, I can tone it down, and I am right now. I wasn’t aware you wanted me to make you a gothic princess, David.”
Oh, that might have been ni- funny, it would have been very funny.
It would have been nice to see himself in so much makeup because it would have enhanced how funny the entire situation was.
Which it is right now – funny.
When he doesn’t answer, Zanna knocks him gently with her elbow.
“I’m joking, you clod. You’ve got a perfectly normal face going on. The old ladies in Sainsbury’s will live.”
The idea of leaving the house like this – whatever this looks like – sends a jolt of ice down his spine. It’s an electric feeling that he doesn’t know how to place. It sits deep in his chest in a way that almost hurts. Somehow he’s not sure that it’s a bad hurt.
He forces himself to laugh, though it comes out a little mechanical. If Zanna notices, she is too busy trying to drag the eyeliner across his face in a straight line to comment.
“What’s the point then? Go big or go home, eh?”
-
“Et, voila! What d’you think?”
He looks himself in the eyes and a jolt of panic runs the entire way through his body.
Oh God.
It’s a thin pane of glass in the Pennykettle’s bathroom, but David is half convinced that if he reaches out, his hand will pass straight through the frame.
That’s not him. It can’t be.
He watches himself crumple before he feels it happen, and once he cracks, the entire thing goes.
Zanna’s arm wraps around his middle, and she starts to pull him gently away from the mirror. David’s feet are cemented to the tile, they continue to stare over her shoulder at the reflection. They’re not convinced they could look away if they tried, as if some ancient magic has bound them to the spot, encased them in ice.
Their reflection is crying. Zanna brushes a hand through their hair carefully.
“Hey.” She says softly. “We can take this off, if you want.”
She’s already leaning for the makeup wipes when David’s head shakes.
“It’s not that…” Their voice catches, much smaller than it ever has been before. “It’s not bad.”
Then what is it?
The eyeliner has tracked all the way down to David’s chin now, and Zanna wipes away the offending drop before it can stain their jumper. Only when she blocks the mirror fully from view does David look back to her.
“No?” she asks. She’s whispering, like this moment is something that could be broken by a raised voice. David’s not so sure that’s wrong. They find themself leaning minutely towards Zanna. “Then what is it?”
“That’s me.”
The waves finally crash to shore.
It washes over Zanna quickly, and David watches as the words hit them both full force. Her eyebrows arch, and the whites of her eyes widen around her dark irises. But just as quickly, any surprise is gone.
“Oh.” She whispers. “Oh, love.”

[Tam vs Lucy. After winning at the battle of Isenfier, everyone bickers. Tam suffers. (yoinked from larger wip about the fallout of Isenfier) 576 words (June 2024)]
Tam blinked to clear his head. Right…
“The… cat.”
Lucy frowned in that vicious way that all teen girls seemed inherently skilled at.
“She’s a girl now: keep up, Tam!”
He raised his hands in mock-defence, “Right, sorry. And this girl is… our problem why, exactly?”
Lucy huffed again, as though she thought Tam was being particularly dense. Perhaps he was, but he rather thought he was owed a little more leniency on account of only recently having been un-buried-alive. God forbid he be a little behind on his dragon apocalypse lore.
“She’s one of us. She stays.” She crossed her arms in front of her chest and jutted her chin in Tam’s direction indignantly. “There’s room in the car, anyway.” She added, as though that was that.
Tam chose to ignore that this was his car, and that it was rapidly going to become a tight squeeze if they continued to adopt every miscreant they encountered in the West Country. Surely ‘Bella’ had family, somewhere? She hadn’t always been a cat - right? - and therefore didn’t really have to become their problem. Though, undeniably, it was difficult to argue with the rapidly deflating look on her face; if she started to cry Tam wasn’t sure he’d be able to argue. Perhaps someone could lay in the boot if it got too cramped. Maybe Zanna would do him a favour and knock him out before he had to do the tetris-ing himself.
“That’s very kind of you, Mr Tam.” Bella said, as if Tam had anything to do with the offer. Lucy gestured wildly and with finality to indicate that everything had, obviously, been sorted.
Zanna and David were exchanging looks to the side. “We’ll discuss this in the morning,” Zanna eventually settled on, “No one’s going back to Scrubbley tonight anyway.”
Lucy started.
“Why not? We have to tell mum that everything’s okay – she needs to know it worked and that the ix are gone and-”
David clapped her on the shoulder, having to look up a little to counteract Lucy’s lankiness.
“It’s fine, squirrel. We’re all going to have a chill evening to cool down from saving the world, and let Liz know over the phone not to expect us back yet-” He pat his chest, where the inner pocket of his jacket sat, and blanched. “With the phone I don’t have anymore… where the hell has that gone?”
David let go of Lucy’s shoulder and began to check the rest of his numerous pockets. It was a bizarre interpretation of the dance Tam’s father had done every few feet when he walked through an airport. After smacking enough of his clothing and finding them bereft of his beaten up mobile, David eventually gave up, slicking a hand through his hair and sending dust and soil through it in dark streaks.
“Well, that’s somewhere. Never mind, I’ll call her at the lodge.”
Tam patted at his own jeans and was, for a moment, fooled by a particularly hard wad of dirt. He was forced to admit that he too had lost his phone. It was going to be a damn pain to replace.
“There’s not going to be any electricity at the BnB. This entire place is shredded.” Tam said, as he certainly didn’t have a phone of his own to offer.
“I’m sure I can figure something out.” David said.
Zanna rolled her eyes.
“Why do I hate the sound of that?”

[Sophie & Zanna, end/post book 2, reflecting on the whole ‘wait is this cheating??’ situation (no it’s not, it’s Zanna having a big gay crush on Sophie that she will never completely recover from/come to terms with). They should’ve made out 😔. 277 words (November 2024)]
“Sorry, I – I didn’t know. About you and David.” Once she’d said it, Zanna wasn’t strictly sure it was true. She’d known David had a girlfriend; she just hadn’t cared. It didn’t seem that David had either. She felt herself flushing at the thought, well aware that she’d been caught in the act.
“No harm no foul.” Sophie said, an easy smile on her cherry pink lips. Her eyes crinkled at the corners – the irises very blue, like syrup dripped through ice. She didn’t seem to care in the slightest that Zanna had been enabling her boyfriend to cheat on her. “I was on my way to break up with him officially and we were pretty much over in October. You’re not on my territory, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Sophie’s territory truly hadn’t concerned her at all – clearly – but Zanna still felt offbeat, an uncomfortable sweat building at her forehead. Sophie was far too calm about the entire affair, her straw blonde hair tied back in a ponytail low at the base of her neck, strands tickling her face. She brushed one away with her knuckles and brought her hand back to rest in her coat pocket. There was a security in the way she stood – relaxed, unbeaten by the breeze.
Zanna tucked a loose braid behind her ear, the beads and charms clinking in uneven tones.
“It wasn’t his idea.” She found herself saying regardless, feeling like a child at confession. “I kissed him first.”
Sophie’s eyebrows quirked curiously. Her smile widened, top lip curling away from her teeth. She inclined her head gently. “I would imagine so. He’s dreadfully slow with anything romantic.”

I'm waiting for my headache to pass until I can do something actually useful, so here's a list of actually important questions one could ask Aleksi during his Twitch streams instead of "prank call [bandmember]" (HE FUCKING CAN'T AND HE'S EXPLAINED WHY SO MANY TIMES STOP ASKING JUST STOP STOP STOP) or "have you seen the Flatline sausage video" (first of all what, second of all go back to tiktok you children 😭) or "where's/how's Rilla" (okay tbf this is actually important but also she's a dachshund so she's probably just chilling there's no need to spam about it though 💀)
edit. ohhhh he's streaming tonight at 8 PM Finnish time 🥺
So what were the sleeping arrangements in the LA house? (I mean, we have a pretty solid idea already but some confirmation wouldn't hurt 😌)
Were you actually going commando under that romper last summer? 😳
How come you and Olli were the only ones getting sick during the US tour last year? 😏 (idk if some crew members were also sick?? but that doesn't fit the Olli/Allu lore so shhhh I don't wanna hear it)
If you were in Posse again and you were asked to tell a funny joke and you WEREN'T interrupted by the host this time, which joke would you tell? 🥺
Who's your favourite/go-to roommate on tour and pls don't break my Olli/Allu heart by saying Niko? 🛌
What did you and Olli do in that backstage room from which you came out together with Olli wiping his mouth during the Deadzone mv shoot? 👀
Remember when you were play-fighting with Olli that one time and he just picked you up and carried you away? Yeah, I wonder what happened next, if you don't mind sharing? 👉👈
Most importantly for me personally: when you're walking Rilla, does she walk in front of you, you know, like dogs normally do (*glares at Osku & Bobby 😒*), or is she dragging behind you, constantly stopping to look behind herself to idk see how far from home you've walked I guess, because our dachshunds do this all the time and it's endlessly frustrating 😑
#for legal reasons i'm joking omg chill i'm not actually gonna ask him any of this 🙄#(...👀)#some of these are shippy (olli/allu) so. maybe don't open the readmore if that bothers you lol#yes i'm basing my whole life around aleksi's twitch streams these days thanks for asking :)#hoping for a rainy evening one of these days just so i can watch him play the sims 4 lol come oooooooon 🥺#i've had a rough fucking monday and my eyes are about to fall off their sockets so i get to imagine ridiculous blorbo nonsense as a treat 😤#ollixallu

tip jar
[ID in alt + readmore]
IMAGE 1: psych fanart of shawn spencer holding a furby in his childhood bedroom, exclaiming, “dude! did you know i had a furby?!” on a red rotary phone.
IMAGE 2: shawn and gus sharing a pineapple drink. shawn is excited abt sharing it with gus while gus looks apprehensive/flustered about it.
IMAGE 3: gus showering, peeking an eye open as a question mark pops above his head. a shadow forms behind the curtain.
IMAGE 4: shawn pulling back the curtain and nonchalantly asking gus a question: “hey are we—stop screaming, it’s just me—are we out of cheetos?” gus shrieks and covers himself up.
IMAGE 5: shawn holding lassiter and gus’s heads in psychic concentration. annoyed, lassiter asks, “does he have to do this every time?” gus responds indifferently, “you get used to it.”
IMAGE 6: shawngus redrawn as twink boutta pounce meme. gus is infodumping about special interest #148, explaining what T-rexes used to sound like, while shawn looks at gus fondly, very much not listening.
IMSGE 7: shawn putting his fingers up to his temples, directing all of his energy at a floating slice of pizza. gus pretends to look shocked, holding the pizza up by a string behind his back. lassiter is taken aback, wondering, “how is he doing that?!”
IMAGE 8: headshot busts of lassiter looking annoyed, shawn and gus looking at each other with a knowing apprehension, and juliet looking serious.
IMAGE 9: lassiter grabbing shawn by the collar and shoving a finger in his face, angrily saying, “now you listen here, spencer—“ shawn is distractedly looking down at his mouth and smiling like the cat who got the cream. a tiktok screenshot in the background reads: me instigating a fight becuase the guy was hot and i want him on me.
IMAGE 10: juliet, gus, and shawn redrawn as the powerpuff girls applebees comic meme. gus rambles about state capitals while shawn says exasperatedly, “stop talking about states.” juliet turns to gus and asks “do you wanna go to applebees?” gus responds, “sure, hang on,” then turns to point at shawn and says, “fuck you.” shawn crosses his arms petulantly.
IMAGE 11: various shawn doodles. the 1st looks unimpressed and says, “i could solve all of the unsolved mysteries myself. it’s not that hard.” the 2nd is a redraw of a screencap subtitled: [shawn meows]. the 3rd shawn has his hands up in unearned surrender, saying, “i’m staying out of this” while an arrow pointing at him reads: guy that started it. the 4th is a redraw of shawn covering his mouth in a laugh.
IMAGE 12: 2 shawn doodles. the 1st shawn walking in with a speech bubble of a textpost that reads: hi sorry for ghosting you im being tormented by psychic horrors beyond your wildest comprehensions. the 2nd shawn gestures to himself humble-braggingly with a speech bubble of a textpost that reads: talking about your feelings is SO important i won’t do it but you guys definitely should. an arrow points to him reading: local man w/ undiagnosed adhd + autism allegedly “proud of not having to go to therapy.”
IMAGE 13: 2 gus doodles. the 1st gus is leaning over as if to gossip and says, “heard about pluto? that’s pretty messed up.” an edited textpost above him reads: absolutely love it when gus goes “lately i’m obsessed with” and then says the most mundane thing ever. the 2nd gus points to a laptop agitatedly with a speech bubble of a textpost that reads: did it hurt? when i told you google it and i was right.
IMAGE 14: gus is obliviously typing on his laptop as shawn is staring at him in concentration with his fingers to his temples. brain wave doodles are sent in gus’s direction. shawn’s thought bubble is a textpost that reads: it’s so rude when someone doesn’t feel you yearning deeply for them… bestie how much more brain waves do i have to fire at you.
IMAGE 15: shawn is leaning on gus’s shoulder with an airy delight and says with a speech bubble of a textpost: love the way we finish each others sentences. it’s like we’re soulmates or the beastie boys. gus smiles at him fondly.
IMAGE 16: shawn and gus as furbys named shawnby & furgus. shawn is pineapple-themed with a pony bead necklace that says SIKE! gus is blue and purple with busines pinstripes and a purple-pink tie.

i was initially just going to put this in the tags but since i dont want to just be talking out of my ass:
this is the authors note on page 87 in the 6th homestuck book. which discusses the content of page 3252 of the webcomic (the jade jadesprite karkat convo)
he calls karkats past current future selves thing a practice of "faux splintering"
and explicitly compares it to dissociative identity disorder. and continues with the following
"He's broken himself up into various 'identities,' compartmentalizing them by where they are in time rather than who they are, in the same way one might in response to trauma, grief, shame, or anything else that might trigger that kind of psychological fragmentation"
like the only difference between karkat and every other plural ass character is that most of karkats bullshit is confined to the (relatively) simple mechanics of time dilation rather than physical alternate selves in (sort of) physical alternate bodies (excluding the standard cases of alternate selves in dream bubbles, ofcourse).
which inadvertently implies that karkat is more truly plural, and it is not just simply the consequence of weird sburb classpect kernelsprite timetravel magic system bullshit. it all takes place in his own (singular) head. (which isnt my genuine stance but an interpretation that could be made)
one could potentially read it as simply the changing opinions that come with time (over the span of only 8 hours) rapidly bolstered by his self hatred and implied inability to truly take responsibility for his prior faults (or perceived faults). which is even stated in the above section,
however, in the ccg and fcg conversation starting on page 4685 (the one where karkat types with red text) we watch ccg converse with a version of himself mere minutes ahead of him, reach the point where hes in fcg's shoes, before responding to the same minutes prior pcg with (naturally) the same level of aggravated vitriol.
near the end the conversation, after the roles have entirely reversed, fcg has this to say
fcg is so 'dissociated' from the state of mind that he was in 10 minutes ago as (p/c)cg, and even after that point, to where he doesnt even believe the feelings occured, or atleast cant determine where they came from.
above are two excerpts from the pluralpedia page on emotional amnesia...
i think you'd be right that he'd resent the insinuation that it wasn't "just all him."
but he'd also be wrong about that fact, like most things karkat thinks he knows.
your guys' trans headcanons suck ass. start making plural headcanons
#ofc plurality isnt the only circumstance in which someone can get emotional amnesia#but like. if he isnt plural hes got some sort of dissociative disorder thats for sure#i wanted to find something that suggested feferi was plural too but unsurprisingly i dont have that much to work with#but#idk#her whole thing with being the catalyst that created the dream bubbles#+ having interest in seeing what happens when she falls asleep before even knowing about them despite karkats warnings#and also like#what ever the hell post fefeta dream bubble ghost feferi and nepeta had going on#thats pretty damn plural#long post#i would have put it under a readmore but recently thats been breaking all my formatting#so im not going to risk that#like i think a singlet reading of karkat is possible.#if you just take every overbearingly plural thing he does and find an excuse that makes it technically caused by something unrelated#but realistically hes some sort of fucked up osdd-1. definitely monoconscious. probably median. potentially blurrian? nightmare#if youve got your own reasoning for why you dont think karkats plural im open to hearing it but#mythinks

ms paint. you know her. u used her age 8 to make loads of rainbow ovals all over the canvas and then scramble it with selection tool. now u will know her true powers with my handyrandy tips under the readmore. some will be pretty basic and others are very special.
this post has 8 cool trix to learn for you. enjoy and i may do another in the future if i remember/learn more stuff
some of it might be common knowledge. but its got some deep cuts. all tips have gifs to show process easily.
🙂 enjoy and i hope this encourages you to fuck around in mspaint more
soundtrack for this post (loop it while you learn for advanced learning experience)
TIP 1) the right click trick
left and right mouse click correspond to col1 and col2 respectively, which u can see in the top bar. this applies to all brushes and the fill tool like above. when using shapes col2 will be the fill colour (if you have solid fill selected). right clicking with shape maker will reverse the colours use on the shape.
TIP 2) right click eraser
this one is extremely helpful for lineart or add shading. the eraser always uses col2. so your eraser can technically be any colour. but here's where you get powers: right clicking with eraser will only erase onto col1, with col2.
TIP 3) transparent selection change a guy destination
the beloved transparent selection tool works based on what is selected as col2. so long as you have the correct colour as col2 you can make any image transparent and put it on top of anything else. and yes this works with photo bg as you can see.
TIP 4) the gradience
this one is a little more complex. you want to start off with any canvas size, and make as many diagonal coloured bands as you want. (protip: holding down shift makes a perfectly diagonal line with line tool)
then you need to resize the canvas to a width of 1px (make sure you resize by pixels, and do not maintain aspect ratio). then resize again back to its original width (or a different width i cant stop you). you will have your lovely gradience.
TIP 5) superimposter
so. you got a cool gradient and wanna put a guy on it. heres what i do:
i open a 2nd mspaint with same canvas size and draw whatever i want on there. i then pick a completely unrelated colour to my entire piece, and set that as the bg. you could use white, pink, geen, whatever you want as long as it doesnt appear somewhere else in ur drawing. copy the guy.
go back to your gradient tab. ensure that col2 is set as that bg colour you picked (lilac for me). have "transparent selection" enabled. paste your guy in. cue fanfare
TIP 6) advanced superimposter
the great thing about this method is u can put multiple gradients in multiple areas of the image. this is where it gets all japanese printmaking type of shit. ukiyo-esque
all you need to do is make another canvas with a new gradient, ensure col2 is set as the colour you want to replace, then paste your original piece onto the new gradient. now my guy has a soft fade. you can do this as much as you want. (you could even make a canvas with a texture or photo and paste your drawing onto there)
TIP 7) "sketch layer"
so as you now know, col2 is what is removed when you click "transparent selection". which means you can also remove any instance of a colour from ur drawing. which means you can have a unique colour for sketch layer and remove it from the drawing later. i admittedly dont do this but it is a great trick to have.
now combine this with lowering your dpi for smoother lines. may seem obvious but it helps. its like a free stabiliser whenever u want.
TIP 8) rainbow art
now this is where you can get dizzee rascal "bonkers". check out my small and shitty rainbow trick. you can select anything and hold down shift, then drag with left mouse, to turn that selection into its own brush. i even did it with a guy. and you can of course do this with a photo as well.
🙂well that it for now. hope you liked it thanks for reading now back to your regularly scheduled tgcg programming

Hi! I'm a big fan of your art, and I just wanted to know, did you study the WOY art style? I'm asking because the way you draw each character, Hater especially, is so expressive! Do you have any tips with expressions? Thank you!
thank you so much!! and to kinda answer your question: while what i do is, technically, studying, that's not what it feels like. i genuinely just enjoy looking at character sheets. a lot of the time they'll include little notes about things you wouldn't think about unless you're told to, like wander's eyes typically angling towards each other at the bottom or sylvia's eyes obscuring the full width of her neck.

(i have any one of these open in my reference panel almost always! not only are these full of tips & tricks for your everyday sketching, they're full of rules for each character, which are meant to be broken in interesting and fun ways.)
[im gonna pack a bunch of other, tangentially related tips and tricks and thoughts into the readmore, including my personal breakdown of hater's expressions specifically, so feel free to give it a click. long post ahead]
a lot of stuff can be picked up by just watching the cartoon as many times as you want. i have watched every episode (minus big fucking baby episode, which i hate) like 6 times over, sometimes more (looking at you the rager), and that has definitely solidified my wander over yonder visual library.
also, wander over yonder's art style already fits in with the way i draw, because i LOVEE long curvy lines and super crisp & clear silhouettes!!
as for why/how i get hater so expressive.... that mainly has to do with the fact that i think he's So Cute. He's So Cute and i wanna Squash Him. and his character design reflects that!!!
his hood is his eyebrow and his eyes may or may not be rolling around in their sockets, and his nose is a little upside down heart. but all of the lord hater emotion is stored in the chin. lord hater has a bunch of specific and VERY malleable options for mouth shapes, depending on what makes the expression and lipsync look clearest.
you can keep it super simple, with a clear divide between his top and bottom jaw, and do several round bumps for teeth, which they do a lot when tweening, like this:
this kind of seems to be his default state, depending heavily on the episode and when it was made and who was drawing him the most, of course.
you can also keep his jaw and skull distinct, but keep his teeth straight and flush with each other, which helps for sharper expressions, esp. anger or frustration, but can also work for a good "squee". he also sometimes pouts so hard his chin eats his mouth, which is, again, cute.
if you're having trouble keeping an expression clear while also maintaining the distinction between his jaw and the rest of his skull, it's pretty common also to forego most of the overt skeleton bits, save for a few hatch marks to indicate teeth (sometimes squiggles or bumps, when he's yelling about it). in my head i affectionately refer to this style of hater expression as the "peanut sans"
none of these convey the intensity of emotion you're looking for? fear not, you can also always just go Full Skeleting. and give his teeth a full outline. this is great for Pain and Strain and Nefariousness.
and then there are a million expressions in between and possibilities within these parameters beyond your wildest belief. nothing should hold you back from a really fucked-up lord hater expression. not proportion. not structure. ESPECIALLY not symmetry. please. make his chin bigger. make his head bigger. make one eye bigger. make him look in two different directions. scrunch his nose up. whatever it takes. by all means. i implore you to have fun
(honorable mention. his W face. the face when he says the consonant W. sometimes OO. i'm. obsessed. with it . he looks. kity)
anyway. lord hater tangent aside. i could also share my own process for expressions, but it really just hinges on what looks appealing/what i like the most/what communicates the emotion i want to communicate the clearest, and it varies between characters and people.
it helps to, again, build your visual library, and look at lots and lots of funny faces, both in real life and in cartoons you like. make funny faces in the mirror and try to focus on what parts of your face change shape or interact with other parts of your face when you do something like smile really wide or drop your jaw. your skin is taut, and there's a bunch of muscle and fat attached to your bones, so when one big bone moves, a bunch of muscles and fat under the surface will shift around too, and understanding that relationship is really helpful in the long run, both for drawing real people and for drawing cartoons.
and the easiest way to retain information like that is to have fun while you study. stop thinking of it as studying and start thinking of it as gathering information on this thing you like a lot and want to do more of, like when you scroll through someone's account to look at all their art, and just. do more of that. do more exploring and observing. since animation is my special interest, this part is pretty easy for me, but it does still take practice to get into that mindset, especially when you convince yourself you have to be super strict and rigid to make it in the art world. focus on drawing and observing what makes YOU happy first, and everything else will follow.
and don't worry about taking notes. don't worry about remembering everything you look at. just look at things you like, and think about them for longer than you usually would. think about the shapes and colors. what makes that drawing so darn appealing to you, besides subject matter and the vague concept of an "artstyle"? you'll be surprised just how abstract what appeals to you can be. for me, with expressions especially, it comes down to random shit like "i like when the edge of a character's mouth creates a tangent with the outline of their head" instead of "pretty eyes" or other, vaguer elements. and that shit i like becomes a part of my artstyle, but only when it fits in and looks appealing, because you can't do stuff like this in every single drawing & retain a full range of expression
ANYway. i hope this made some sense/helped at least a little. i like lord hater a lot. and i also like to draw

warnings!! smut - p in v! low-key mean rafe but he's cute at the end. first fic!! this is just pure smut.
"please baby!!"
"fuck, look at you..." rafe breathes, his eyes raking over your curves. "so fucking perfect. so fucking mine." he leans down, running his mouth along the swell of your breast. his teeth catch the lace of your bra, tugging it down to expose your nipple.
he doesn't hesitate before drawing the hardened peak into his mouth, suckling greedily. his hand comes up to palm your other breast, kneading the soft flesh. rolling and pinching the nipple between his fingers until you're arching into his touch.
:readmore:
his hand then slides between your legs, pushing your panties aside. his fingers find your slit, stroking through the slick folds. "fuck, you're so wet for me already," he groans, circling your clit with the pad of his thumb. "gonna fuck this tight little cunt so hard, y/n. gonna ruin you for anyone else."
"please!!" your whiny plea is all he needs.
rafe wastes no time, with a low groan, he rips your panties off completely, leaving you bare and exposed. his jeans are next, the button and zipper flying open as he shoves them down his hips.
his cock springs free, long, thick, and hard as steel. the swollen head is flushed a deep, angry red, already leaking with need. rafe takes himself in hand, stroking up and down his length as he stares at you with wild, lust-blown eyes.
"brace yourself, baby," he warns, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "im not going to be gentle."
with that, he grips your thighs and hikes your legs up around his hips. the head of his cock notches against your entrance, teasing your slick folds. then with one hard thrust, he thrusts himself inside you, burying his thick length.
you're so tight, your walls clenching and fluttering around his invading cock. rafe groans, his eyes squeezing shut.
"fuck, babyyy..." he grunts, giving you a moment to adjust before he starts to move. he moves quick, pounding into you with deep, powerful thrusts. the sound of skin slapping against skin fills the air, mixing with your cries and his harsh pants.
"that's it, baby. take it." rafe growls, one hand gripping your hip while the other finds your clit.
his thrusts grow faster, harder, more erratic - you know he's close.
"fuck, baby... gonna... fuck... gonna cum..." rafe grits out, his body tensing.
he captures your mouth in a searing kiss, his tongue plundering your mouth. its sets you both to your release. when he finally pulls back, you're both left panting and shaking in the aftermath.
he leans his forehead against yours, "you're so perfect, i love you."
"i love you more." you smile weakly, pulling him closer.
"impossible." he showers your face with kisses.

(WATCHER) Unfortunate Evolution is Present-Day Pebbles. And Pebbles is Fine.
And I have proof!
VERY HEAVY WATCHER SPOILERS AHEAD.
Hi I know I said I would only start posting theories on friday, but I actually cannot keep this in any longer.
A lot of people's initial reactions to seeing UE and the Rot Worm was thinking that this was FP in the future, and that he became the worm
But I have GREAT proof as to why this isn't true, and why Unfortunate Evolution is actually a cerebral realm within the FP region, almost like a peek into his mindspace
(Behind a readmore so I don't jumpscare people with spoiler screenshots)
You've clicked on this? Well now you should know that-
THERE ARE ALSO SPOILERS FOR THE THRONE AHEAD
Anyways, spoiler warnings aside.
1.The background is not at all real

The background of UE is a fractal-like grid of cubes of what looks to be something organic. Like a framework. It looks like neurons, or a mycelium reaching into the infinite darkness. Not at all indicative of a real world.
These extremely rotted regions are on the fringes of reality and are unstable, being more a underbelly dream realm version of the world.

OAOA even says so themselves, Its too far. After a certain point, its all like this.

As well as this, attempting to warp out of ANY regions with sentient rot in it (the purple rot) which includes the Fucked Up And Evil Vanilla Regions and UE returns the message: "This fringe is already too unstable"
We also know that there are multiple strands a creature's cycle can follow simultaneously, as it explores all possible options before settling on one perceived possibility. From an outsider's POV anyways. To you, you're the particle exploring every possibility in a dream realm, before the "box is opened" and a single outcome occurs. Much like quantum physics, actually!
These are strands on the absolute fringes of the Rug of Reality (As I like to refer to it, because Drainage Pearl), being dissolved into a sea of lumps and nothingness as entropy decays it, whilst the idealized version of these regions still exists and is currently the Chosen Path.
(Actually in a way, this is why I do not believe Watcher's takes place in the material world. They are already stuck near the fringes of reality, one where OAOA is exploring, and which all the other echoes avoid. That is for a different post.)
So Unfortunate Evolution is not a strand perceivable from the material world, then what is it? Why is it current Pebbles and not a future one?
Well, if you take a look at the map of the place, its ONLY Unfortunate Development, except UE has even less rooms, so it might even be a past Pebbs!
Even with all that, the Rot Worm could NEVER be Five Pebbles, nor could it be a rotted Void Worm. It's its own thing.
Iterator puppets, Voidspawn, and Void Worms all have the neuron glow. Even PRINCE has it!

The rot worm does not.

And I checked!
Rotworm has no light. The other 3 (In the order I mentioned) Do
(Glowloop is a sound, by the way)
So this is a realm on the unstable fringes of reality, only filled with the rotted parts of Five Pebbles, who's only inhabitant is a single, unenlightened worm.
I think Pebbles is haunted. UE is his cerebral realm, almost like a nightmare caused by the rot. And though his rot isn't sentient, as its blue and doesn't have the same spores (he got the knockoff version. I will elaborate more in a different post, again. Lot to talk about here), some entity out there KNOWS he has the rot, and is thus lurking within the background realms of his realities as a result.

Hey since your requests are open, could you maybe draw Hal? Doing anything, I don't really care what (only if you want)
day 96
YES i actually got 2 thinking about hal today thanks to this post (and my tags even passed peer review yippee thank u) ANYWAY. in addition to all of that. I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT he and aradia would be friends.
ok i wrote all this out and it got long and kinda rambly bc im tired so im putting it under a cut lmao HALRADIA FRIENDSHIP RANT IN THE READMORE
i think there would be.... maybe a little tension given that aradia eventually ended up in Her Own Flesh And Blood Body and hal would presumably not have that option?
but overall i think after the way her friends treated her as a robot, and the experience of going from experiencing life as a living breathing organic person to a bodiless entity to HAVING a body but that body not being the same as the one you remember.... idk! it's like EXTREMELY EXTREMELY SPECIFIC AND MORE THAN A LITTLE TRAUMATIC and they could share it with each other!! how fucking lovely is that.
not to mention they both kind of have a history with equius?? (assuming this is post arquiusprite in some way. i certainly have an extremely self-indulgent "everyone lives" au for this scenario where they're able to safely separate into their pre-sprite components and then hal and aradia become buds.)
REGARDLESS i think it would be interesting for hal (who has ostensibly nothing but positive shit to say about his connection to equius) and aradia (who has some truly fucked things to say about her experiences with equius) to Talk Through All That.
not 2 mention the parallels that can be drawn between dirk/hal's perception of their relationship with jake being this kind of... Manipulative Pining Weirdness, and aradia being on the other side of somebody else's Manipulative Pining Weirdness and sharing that perspective without even knowing about all of that dirkjake backstory OUGH im tellin u it is all a very complex and wonderful scenario to consider and like, im not even much of an alpha kid aficionado tbh. hal experts chime in on the comments i know youre out there and i wanna hear your takes.
#day 96#year 5#aradia megido#lil hal#homestuck#im not kidding btw HAL ENJOYERS WHAT IS THE VIBE HERE#also to clarify i think hal's confusion is largely due to the. Hey How Did You Get A Flesh Body factor more than anything#aradia's situation is uhhhhh Strange

Every Day Dangers
Jason Todd x Reader
Summary: Jason prepares for a lot of uncommon dangers but what about a regular everyday building fire.
:Readmore:
Jason spent a lot of time making sure your shared apartment was safe for you while he was away on patrol, and he triple checked it all before he left for a mission. He had security cameras at all the entry points, he had an alarm system that would alert him and stream that video footage right to his helmet if anyone dared break in. He had a gun stashed in the apartment for you and he made sure you know how to use it properly. He had knives taped in inconspicuous places all over the apartment. There was no place in that apartment that you wouldn’t have something to defend yourself with until he could get to you. What Jason had not considered was you needing to fight to escape the building itself.
You had gone to bed early that night without anything to do and with Jason being away on a mission this week. Your Friday night was spent curled up with a book in bed, cocooned in blankets and pillows and reading until you passed out with the book still open. You were sleeping hard, completely oblivious to the smoke filling your apartment and the temperature rising. The smoke detector began to go off in the kitchen and you stirred but you didn’t think it was anything more than your alarm clock and you were not coherent enough to realize it was actually a warning. You kicked the covers off you as you got overheated and rolled over still mostly asleep. Eventually you started coughing and that finally woke you up fully. The air was thick and smoky and you couldn’t catch your breath. You reached for your bedside lamp and found it wasn’t very useful in providing visibility through the thick smoke. You were coughing and gasping for air, fire, the apartment is on fire you realized through the disorientation of just waking up and not being able to breath or see clearly. You needed to move, you needed to get out, you stayed low and used the wall to guide you toward the living room. You hurried to the front door of your apartment but jumped back with a hiss as you grabbed the doorknob, it was so hot it burned the palm of your hand. Your adrenaline was keeping the pain bearable as you began to feel frantic, trapped. The fire was in the hallway, you bumped into a piece of furniture and you began to hyperventilate, you were panicking. Smoke stung your eyes making it more difficult to see as they teared up. You wanted Jason, you needed to hear his voice…your phone. He would lose his mind if he knew you went back into your bedroom to look for a phone while the building was burning. Problem was you weren’t thinking logically right now, you were freaking the fuck out. You got on the floor and crawled back to your room and quickly shook the blankets nearly crying out with joy when your phone quickly tumbled to the floor. You grabbed it and hit his contact putting it on speaker as you crawled back towards the living room noticing the bottom of your front door now had flames licking at it. Sweat beaded your brow as the temperature went up a notch further.
“Hey baby I was just about to call you”
“Jason!!!” You gasp out “The buildings on fire, I can’t go out the front door, I’m scared” you frantically told him coughing between every few words.
“Fuck! Baby you gotta use the fire escape, I know it’s scary but just don’t look down okay, you gotta get out of there NOW!” Jason didn’t hesitate, he knew exactly what you needed to do and this is why you had to get your phone, you needed him, he is great in a crisis and you are learning first hand right now that you, are not.
“Jay” you whimpered
“Now, y/n!”
“Okay, okay I’m going, I’m putting you in my pocket please don’t hang up”
“Never baby I’m right here, you gotta do this but I’m right here with you you’re going to be okay, open the window and tell me when you’re outside”.
You slid your phone into your pocket of your shorts and hoped it wouldn’t fall, hoped you wouldn’t fall too. You were terrified of heights, you never understood how Jason did it every night leaping from rooftops and grappling across buildings, and that was the easy part of his job. You pushed the window with your good hand, cradling your burned one close to your chest. You crawled out of the window onto the fire escape feeling a wave of nausea hit you. You began to mentally chant to yourself “you have to do this, you have no choice, suck it up y/n”
“O-okay Jay, I’m on the fire escape” your voice wobbled and you knew Jason could tell how terrified you were.
“Good, take a deep breath for me sweets, I’m out there every night I’m going to tell you exactly what to do to get down safe, trust me”.
“I trust you, I just hate this so much”.
“I know baby, I’m sorry Im not there with you. Listen okay, the first bit is easy just hold onto the railing and walk down the metal stairs, don’t rush but I’d like you on the ground as quick as you can be.”
“Okay, can you just…can you keep talking to me? About anything, how are you? Do you know when you’ll be home?”
“Yeah baby I can keep talking to you, if you think I’m not already working on getting back to you after this you have lost your mind. Fuck the job, you’re more important. I hope you know that.”
“I do Jay, I love you and I just really want to see you. I needed to hear your voice, it’s why…why I went back for my phone”. There was a heavy silence and you rushed to fill it. “I know I shouldn’t have but I was panicking and I couldn’t think, I needed to call you.”
“You can bet your sweet ass we will be doing evacuation drills from now on baby. I get it but yeah I don’t love hearing you went back into danger for a phone. We can talk about it later though. Are you hurt at all?”
“I burned my hand, I ran for the front door first and the doorknob was scalding hot, otherwise I’m fine. I was asleep, I didn’t wake up until I was choking on smoke”.
“The alarm didn’t go off?!”
“The smoke detector did, yeah but I must have slept through it, I didn’t notice it until I was already awake”.
“Shit, okay. I’m sending Alfred to come and get you, he will patch up that hand and check your lungs. Where are you now?”
“Going down the last flight of stairs, Jay idk if I can jump the last bit, it’s too high.”
“You don’t have to baby there is a ladder that you should be able to push down, be careful with your hand, can you rip some of your shirt to wrap it?”
“Um, I think so, this is your shirt though Jay..”
“I don’t give a fuck about the shirt, rip it and wrap your hand”
“Right, okay I’m pausing to do that, I’m at the ladder thing now”
You found a weak spot in the seam of the sleeve and ripped it off wrapping the fabric around your palm wincing at the feeling. You used your teeth to help you hold the fabric and managed to tie it off with one hand. Then you began working on shoving the ladder down and with a few solid pushes it dropped with a clang into place.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, that was just the ladder falling into place.”
“Okay, good, your almost done baby, next step is the ground and Alfred is already on his way. Just climb down this last little bit, easy work, you got this”.
His reassurance was exactly what you needed to hear, you took a second to steady your nerves and then worked your way down the ladder. “Jason, it doesn’t reach all the way”
“I know, you’re going to climb it all the way down, let yourself dangle off the end of it and your feet will only be a few feet above the ground. You can do this”
“I hate this so much”. You muttered as you did what he said climbing down until your feet were on the last rung, you used all your upper body strength to work your way down the last few rungs with your hands, made increasingly difficult by your burned palm but you were happy for the fabric barrier that was there. You looked down and could see you weren’t far off the ground but you still didn’t like the idea of dropping to the ground below. You closed your eyes braced your self and let go. Letting out a shriek of fear as you did.”
“Y/n?!, what happened? Answer me”.
“I’m okay, just got scared when I let myself drop. I’m on the ground now. Where do I go?”
“Cross the street love, get away from the burning building please, Alfred should be there any minute.”
You took your phone off speaker now that you were safely on the ground and brought it back up to your ear. You made your way across the street as fire trucks started to arrive and you saw many of your neighbors, most of whom you had never met, also lining the sidewalk staring up at their homes burning.
“Oh god Jay, this is bad, the whole building….all our stuff”
“It’s just stuff, the only thing in that apartment I can’t replace is you, fuck I’m so glad you’re okay. This isn’t the kind of emergency I expected, break ins, enemy attacks, that’s the shit I planned for. I’m so sorry baby, I should have had a plan for the basic emergencies, should have gotten you more comfortable using the fire escape, fuck”.
You could hear him spiraling now that he knew you were out of harms way. His voice now shook as he likely was thinking worst case scenario and of coarse he found a way to blame himself. Jason is a protective man, he takes responsibility for the safety of others.
“Jason this is not your fault, stop that train of thought right now. You can’t see the future, you can’t stop everything from happening. I know you want to, but it’s not possible. What you did just do was help me. You talked me through a terrifying moment, you kept me calm and you kept me safe. I was panicking before I called you, I think I would have froze up if it weren’t for you Jay. This isn’t something to blame yourself for so please, please don’t”.
Jason let out a heavy sigh on the other end of the line, there was a pause and then he said “yeah, okay I’ll try. I love you y/n I’m so relieved you’re okay. I’m on my way I’ll be back at the manor in a few hours. Alfred should be pulling up now do you see him?”
You saw the familiar looking car pulling up right in front of you and watched Alfred climb out. He put a reassuring hand on your shoulder and guided you to the car where he held the door open for you as you climbed in.
“Yeah, just got in the car. I love you too Jay, drive safe okay no speeding”.
“No promises sweets, I’ll see you soon. Let Alfred patch you up, no complaining, I need to know you’re ok”.
“No promises”. You quipped back with a smile on your face even though you knew you would do as he asked.
“See you in a bit baby, be good, I love you”
