I made it easier to back up your blog with tumblr-utils
Hey friends! I've seen a few posts going around about how to back up your blog in case tumblr disappears. Unfortunately the best backup approach I've seen is not the built-in backup option from tumblr itself, but a python app called tumblr-utils. tumblr-utils is a very, very cool project that deserves a lot of credit, but it can be tough to get working. So I've put together something to make it a bit easier for myself that hopefully might help others as well.
If you've ever used Docker, you know how much of a game-changer it is to have a pre-packaged setup for running code that someone else got working for you, rather than having to cobble together a working environment yourself. Well, I just published a tumblr-utils Docker container! If you can get Docker running on your system - whether Windows, Linux, or Mac - you can tell it to pull this container from dockerhub and run it to get a full backup of your tumblr blog that you can actually open in a web browser and navigate just like the real thing!
This is still going to be more complicated than grabbing a zip file from the tumblr menu, but hopefully it lowers the barrier a little bit by avoiding things like python dependency errors and troubleshooting for your specific operating system.
If you happen to have an Unraid server, I'm planning to submit it to the community apps repository there to make it even easier.
Drop me a message or open an issue on github if you run into problems!

— SEVEN MINUTES

Tony takes care of Peter, even if he’s not actually there
Iron!dad and Spider!son (ish)
wc: 2.5k
warnings: fighting, gun violence, mentions of death, blood and injuries, imagine Peter got a bit more time with Tony, May, and Ned + MJ…
authors note: hehehehehehe I’d recommend listening to “White Ferrari” by Frank Ocean and “For the First Time” by Mac DeMarco while reading this! ENJOY!! 😁😁

There were bodies scattered all around the misty lot. Various weapons and gadgets not too far from the mercenaries. Peter was slumped on the ground, his back against a lamp post and his hand on his abdomen. It was supposed to be a simple deal bust. He’d disarm the sellers and buyer, arrest them, and turn in the weapons to the authorities. The deal had almost been struck when the sellers shot the buyer. Peter knew he had to swoop in, even if the buyer was a bad person. He was horrifyingly outnumbered, tall and muscular mercenaries all surrounded him when he swung onto the sight. They all loaded their exotic weapons and opened fire on him. He’d manage to run away and hide just in time to figure out a plan to disarm them.
He was atop the tall lampposts in the darkness and slowly one by one he snatched away the weapons from them. What he hadn’t considered were the backup weapons they concealed on their bodies. As Peter fought them hand-to-hand, he started to tire out. He’d been fighting and jumping and running for the past three hours and it was the middle of the night. The amount of mercs seemed never ending and he was starting to slow down. His punches got softer and his movements became slower. By then, everyone but him had their smaller guns and knives out. Various bullets and knives grazed his skin but none of them lodged into him. Peter wasn’t one who used guns. He didn’t know how to use them and he didn’t want to. It was only when he realized that him and his webs stood no chance that he picked up a stray gun.
The smell of iron filled his nose as he looked around the lot. All of the mercs holding onto their limbs lodged into them, some unconscious. He thought that the fight was over, that he could go home, get some rest. Only when he heard the ringing in his ears and the tingling throughout his body did he realize what had happened to him. He turned around quickly and stopped the punch that was aimed straight at his face. He was gripping the other hand with his full force though, the one that lodged the crowbar deep into him. The ringing and tingling happened again but this time, it was amplified. He knocked out the merc before him and felt a bullet strike into him as he turned around. It seemed as the more he turned around, the more bullets there were.
He saw three mercs on the ground aiming their guns at him as they held onto their wounds, using their last breaths to kill a child who just wanted to do good. More and more bullets struck him as he ran away at an inhumane speed. The sound of guns shooting slowed as did his speed and breath. He ran to the closest lamppost he could find and he collapsed. That’s how he found himself in this position. Looking up, and seeing a familiar face.
“Mr. Stark?” Peter huffed out.
“Kid what did I tell you about chasing bad guys with guns? Now look at you, c’mon get up.” Tony scolded the injured boy.
All Peter could do was look up in disbelief. Blood was pooling out of the little holes all over his chest and back and more was coming out of his abdominal wound. It was a waterfall, and Peter was the small edge of the cliff that couldn’t handle any more of the weight. He groaned out in pain and threw his head back, hitting it quite hard.
“Leave me alone! You’re not real! You’re dead you’re dead you’re dead!” He yelled out as he attempted to curl up into a ball.
The crowbar was still very much deep in him, slicing more of his organs as he moved around. He held onto the bar and started to pull it out.
“Don’t do that! That’s the only thing that’s giving to a chance to stay alive. Now get up and start walking.” Tony’s voice rang in his ear again.
He looked back up at Tony, who was now reaching out his hand to Peter, and pulled himself up, gripping onto Tony’s hand. Tony kept Peter steady as he limped forward at a snails pace. He was dizzy at this point, his body felt lighter, and his vision was darkening. They walked towards the darkness, where the road was hiding behind and Peter felt his body getting lighter and lighter with each short step he took.
“I…it all hurts Mr. Stark…” he took more labored breaths while gripping onto the handle of the crowbar.
Tony could only look at the kid with compassion oozing out of his eyes when he started to speak again.
“Remember when you stopped that bank robbery?”
“Which time” Peter chuckled, even though it hurt every part of his body.
“You know what? I’m gonna ignore that and continue with what I was gonna say…” Tony chuckled too “…remember how mad I was?”
“Yeah, you wouldn’t let me leave the apartment without telling you where I was and checking in every five minutes.”
“I couldn’t let you away from my attention for too long because every time I did, you’d get yourself into some trouble.
They giggled together and the memory of Peter getting scolded by Tony flooded his mind. It was as if he’d been transported to that moment. One moment he was walking in a dark parking lot and the next he was in the living room of the Avengers compound. The entire moment felt like a cutaway in a show. It all happens in the way he remembered.
He relived the scolding from Tony. “Do you know how stupid that was!? They had never seen before weapons! Ones I’ve never seen before! I swear you’re gonna give me a heart attack one day, kid.”
He relived Tony apologizing. He heard the soft knocks on his door and saw Tony walk in with a tight lipped smile. “Uh…I want to apologize..for the last night. Even though you’re young and semi new to the whole hero thing, you dearmed the robbers and turned them in to the authorities without hurting yourself or others. Good job..I guess.” He felt Tony’s awkward side hug along with it.
He relived receiving Tony’s apologetic gifts, even after he apologized. Tony’d given him a new and more advanced suit along with many little gadgets and gizmos, one of them being his little robot buddy A.P.R.I.L (Assistant Programed to Remember I Lived). “Look it was difficult to come up with an acronym okay? It’s to remind you that you lived through the robbery and that you can live through tougher things.”
“Feels like you need this more than me” Peter laughed.
They walked limped for another few steps before Tony spoke up again.
“Hey what was the name of that girl you were dating?”
Peter’s heart skipped a beat “…uh MJ…” he hadn’t said her name in so long…
“Cute name, is it actually MJ though?”
Peter laughs at Tony’s comment, blood pooling out faster because of it.
“Well it’s Michelle Jones but she prefers MJ.”
They inched forward a few steps, Peter’s steps were starting to falter.
“I remember the day I asked to be her boyfriend—like officially.”
“Oh yeah? Tell me about it.”
“Ned gave me a bunch of ideas like to make her an elaborate sign and a hundred different types of other odd things…”
“Dude you have to make it epic! You could to buy her a bouquet with a hundred count of her favorite flowers and each flower has a thing you like about her AND THEN you show her the light up sign asking her to be your girlfriend!” Ned rambled.
“Or…I could just take her out to a restaurant or cafe and ask her…?”
“Nah that’s lame! You see, girls love when you spoil them, you have to go all out!”
“So how’d you actually ask her out?”
“I was simple with it. I took her to this cafe slash book store and asked her over a drink.” Peter gave the best shoulder shrug he could at his state.
“So MJ…” Peter played with the page of the book he’d picked.
MJ looked up from her book and gave a questioning look at Peter. He could feel his pulse pick up and palms sweat when she looked up. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail—with the exception of her bangs—and he could’ve sworn she had a halo and wings appear once he looked at her. “I wanted to ask you something…” Peter started.
MJ takes the bookmark from its position beside the book and closes it between the pages. She slides it slightly off to her right and rests her head in her palm, waiting for him to continue. She gave him the sweetest smile he’d ever been given and all the words evaporated from his mind. “What is it Peter?”
Peter swallowed hard and started speaking, trying his best to not stutter. “Since we both like each other and have gone on several dates and stuff…may I be your boyfriend?” Peter takes her hand in his and smiles at her as she takes her time answering his question.
She taps her fingers to her chin and tilts it up slightly, acting as if she’s in deep thought. Her smile is wider than ever and Peter basically feels time stop seeing her. She lowers her head and stares him straight in the eyes, giggling. “Of course!”
He starts giggling with her and leans his head forward, snaking his other hand to cup her cheek. She too leans her head forward and closes her eyes in anticipation. It’s when his lips finally press to hers does Peter’s heart stop pounding so hard. They molded so perfectly together, he couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. It was slow and deep. No tongue, no lust, just deep yearning and pure love.
“I’m not sure where she is these days. I tried to talk to her after the whole multiverse fiasco with Mr. Strange but I chickened out when I got there…” Peter dropped his head at the painful memory.
“It’s okay Pete, it’s not your fault.” Tony rubbed his hands against Peter’s arm, feeling him get colder and colder.
Peter picked up his head and looked at Tony as he let his tears flow down his cheeks. Tony caressed the tears off his cheeks and gave him a side hug. “It’s okay, let your tears out.”
Peter was sobbing against Tony’s embrace. It hurt, physically and emotionally. He was so tired. He had no one left. May wasn’t there to comfort him anymore, neither was Ned, and neither was MJ. The last memory played in his mind at the thought of May. It was the day she and Happy had their first date.
May came out of her room in a beautiful soft yellow and pink dress a bit past her knees. Her hair was in a half up half down style with loose curls and she had her signature purse slung over her shoulder. “Wow May you’re so pretty!” Peter complimented as she walked over to the shoe closet by the front door.
May looked at Peter “Are you sure? It feels…” she made a circular motion in the air, referring to herself “…a little much.”
“Yes! Where are you going?”
“I…have a date.” May grinned as she got her sandals out of the closet.
“Ooo who’s the lucky fella?” Peter asked while wiggling his eyebrows and the brightest smile plastered on his face.
“Happy! You know, the chauffeur guy that you always hang out with?” Peter’s smile dropped.
“Wait you’re going on a date with HAPPY?”
“Yeah…what he’s nice, funny, and he’s got a charm to him!”
“What he’s literally always grumpy! Does not live up to his name!”
May chuckled at Peter’s disapproval as she walked towards him. She cupped both of his cheeks and smiled. “He’s a good man Peter. You just have to warm up to him.” With that, May squeezed his cheeks and shook his head from side to side.
He started laughing at her action and pulled off her hands from his cheeks. “Fine. But if he hurts you in any way, I am not afraid to hit my elders.” He half joked.
May laughed at his half full threat and lightly smacked his shoulder. She pulled him into a hug and he fell into her embrace with no hesitation, closing his eyes.
It’s only when he opened his eyes he’s facing cold harsh reality again. He can see the warm street lights ahead of him along with the few cars swooshing by. His knees are faltering at this point and Tony is long gone from his side. Maybe Tony was never there. Maybe his brain had tricked itself to imagine someone helping him to ease the pain of the loneliness in is last moments. Whether he was actually there or not, he was glad he got a proper last moment with the only father figure in his life. Peter limps two more feet before he collapses on the sidewalk. His knees fall onto the cold hard concrete and he finally pulls off his mask, breathing in the, not so fresh, New York City, air.
He leans forward and rests his left hand on the ground while gripping onto the crowbar with his other hand. His vision is blurred and he can feel his eyelids getting heavier. With all of the might he had left in his body, he pulls the crowbar out. The rest of whatever blood he had left in his body spills out with the crowbar no longer there to aid in stopping the bleeding. The crimson liquor coats the gloves of his suit, pooling out too quickly. The pain speeds throughout his body for the last time as his arms give out. He’s in a fetal position facing the ground, holding onto his wound.
Only when he is taking his last breaths does Peter Parker finally feel relaxed. He breathes in and out deeply as the sound of the world dissolves from his ears and he finally hears silence. He smiles his last smile and he accepts the warm welcome of death. Because it is only when he dies that he realizes that death isn’t a dark, hooded, skeleton with a scythe. It’s his mother, Mary “May” Parker, holding her arms wide open for him to fall into.
It’s said that in the last seven minute of someone’s life, their brain is active, going back through their memories. Peter is content knowing he saw his family for the last time before he died.
“Oh my god look!”
“What?”
“Is that Spider-Man?” the girl pointed at Peter’s corpse. They ran towards it, to get a closer look
“Holy shit it is!” The boy yelled.
“Shit look at him! There’s holes over his body!”
“What are you looking at Ned? Call the cops!”
“Jeez I’m already on it MJ, chill!”
A sense of familiarity washes over her as she pushes the body of the fallen hero to his side. She sees his expressionless face and she feels nostalgia prick at her brain like static. She taps her friend kneeling beside her. “Does he look familiar to you?”

All Too Well - Steve Rogers
Pairing| Steve x OC (Samantha Scofield)
Fandoms: MCU x Prison Break |
– Six Months Ago
Location: Washington, D.C. – Trader Joe’s on a rainy Tuesday Time: 7:36 PM
Samantha Scofield did not believe in fate. But standing in the middle of the frozen foods aisle, in worn jeans and a hoodie two sizes too big, mascara smudged from the drizzle outside, she wondered if the universe was playing some kind of joke.
She was staring at a box of dinosaur chicken nuggets, trying to decide if Emma would forgive her for not getting the alphabet kind, when a deep voice spoke behind her.
"Those are the superior nuggets, in my humble opinion."
She turned—and there he was. Steve Rogers. In sweats, a navy ballcap pulled low, and a soft smile that somehow made her feel like she’d been seen. Really seen.
Samantha blinked. "You have an opinion on dino nuggets?"
Steve shrugged, one hand in his hoodie pocket, the other holding a basket full of almond butter, Greek yogurt, and two pints of mint chip ice cream.
"I used to babysit a kid who refused to eat anything that didn’t resemble a stegosaurus." He nodded toward the box. "Trust me. These win every time."
She couldn’t help it. She laughed. It wasn’t graceful. It wasn’t planned. It just… happened. Loud and real and warm in her chest.
"I’m Samantha," she said, almost without thinking.
Steve hesitated for just a second—like the name meant something. Then he nodded.
"Steve."
They stood in silence for a moment. Just two strangers in the middle of a quiet store, surrounded by overpriced kale chips and organic mac and cheese.
"You new in the area?" he asked gently.
She nodded. "Something like that. Me and my daughter just moved back."
Steve smiled, soft and understanding. "If you ever need restaurant recs—or backup in the nugget aisle—I’m usually here Tuesdays. It’s quieter."
Samantha tilted her head. "Is that a casual invitation to shop together?"
He smirked. "Only if you promise to help me figure out how to pronounce quinoa correctly."
She grinned. "Deal."
And just like that, the quiet rhythm of her life shifted. Not with a bang. Not with danger. But with a dino nugget and a smile.
Samantha rarely allowed herself to breathe these days.
But tonight, under the soft hum of a downtown D.C. restaurant patio heater, with Steve Rogers sitting across from her and smiling like she was the only person in the world, she felt like maybe—just maybe—she could exhale.
"She’s a tough kid," Steve said, sipping his coffee. "I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone talk about a ten-year-old like that and actually be proud."
Samantha grinned, looking down. "Emma’s… a force. She gets that from her dad."
Steve tilted his head, an unspoken curiosity lingering in his eyes. He hadn’t pressed about the father yet, but the name remained unspoken between them. She wasn’t ready. Not yet.
"I was thinking," he continued gently, "maybe I could meet her soon. Only if you’re ready, of course."
Before Samantha could answer, her phone buzzed on the table. She hesitated, heart sinking when she saw the school’s number.
"Emma got into a fight."
Everything moved fast after that.
The elementary school hallway was buzzing when they arrived. Samantha stormed past the front desk, Steve trailing behind her, only to stop short when she spotted him leaning against the wall, arms crossed, dark gaze locked on the principal’s door.
Brock Rumlow.
Steve’s eyes narrowed instantly. "You didn’t tell me he was her dad."
"You didn’t ask," Samantha muttered, pushing forward.
Brock looked up. His expression shifted the moment he saw Samantha—softened—and then cooled when he noticed who was with her.
"Rogers," Brock said flatly.
"Brock," Steve replied, voice equally sharp.
"Nice of you to show up." Brock's smirk was all teeth, but his eyes didn’t leave Samantha.
"Boys," Samantha snapped, "we’re not doing this here."
Just then, the door to the principal’s office opened. Emma stood there, arms crossed, face bruised but proud.
"She pushed me first."
Samantha knelt in front of her. "Emma—"
"I didn’t start it, Mom. I just told her not to say mean things about you." She glanced at Brock. "She said you were trash, and that I must be too. So I shoved her."
Steve blinked. "What kind of ten-year-old—?"
Before they could respond, a shrill voice cut through the tension. "Of course you would raise a little criminal."
Samantha’s entire body tensed.
She knew that voice.
Megan Blaire.
Samantha slowly stood and turned. There she was—the same fake smile, the same cruel glint in her eye. Only now, Megan had a designer bag, a little Botox, and a husband standing behind her who clearly had no idea what kind of monster he married.
"Well, if it isn’t Samantha Scofield," Megan sneered. "Guess old habits die hard."
Steve instinctively stepped forward, but Brock beat him to it.
"Careful," Brock growled. "You’re talking to my daughter’s mother."
Megan blinked. "You’re—wait. You’re the father?"
"Surprise," Samantha muttered.
Megan’s husband, clearly confused, looked between everyone. "What’s going on?"
Samantha gave him a tight smile. "Ask your wife about the time she stuffed tampons in my locker and carved 'SLUT' on my gym bag."
Megan’s face went pale.
"And how I gave her a black eye for it in tenth grade," Samantha added sweetly.
The principal cleared her throat awkwardly. "Let’s—uh—focus on resolving the issue between the children."
Steve gently rested a hand on Samantha’s back. She looked up at him, surprised by how grounded it made her feel.
"Emma defended you," Steve said quietly, after the conversation with the principal finally ended. "She’s got your fire."
"She’s got a lot of Brock’s, too," Samantha whispered.
Behind them, Brock knelt beside Emma, brushing a thumb over the bruise on her cheek. "You okay, kiddo?"
Emma nodded. "Mom was like me when she was little?"
Brock grinned. "Worse."
As the hallway emptied and the families parted ways, Megan’s husband stared at her in disbelief, the cracks in her perfect life starting to show. She was humiliated. Samantha didn’t gloat, but she didn’t hide her satisfaction either.
Outside the school, Samantha paused between Steve and Brock.
"Guess we all learned something today," she said tiredly.
"Yeah," Brock muttered. "Like who you’ve been dating behind my back."
Steve scoffed. "Maybe if you weren’t such an ass, she wouldn’t have kept it a secret."
Brock stepped forward. "Maybe if I didn’t still love her, I’d care a little less."
Samantha stepped between them before fists could fly. "Not here. Not in front of Emma."
Emma opened the doors just then, skipping toward them. "Dad! Uncle Steve! Can we get milkshakes?"
Steve blinked. "Uncle?"
Brock rolled his eyes. "Guess that’s progress."
Samantha let out a long breath, shaking her head. The chaos of her past and present had finally collided—but at that moment, surrounded by her daughter and two very complicated men, she smiled.
Because love—real love—was always messy.
And Samantha Scofield had never been afraid of messy.

After I deleted a bunch of projects (thankfully non-critical, though representing a great deal of work in total) during a recent fresh OS install, I realized that my backup practices are practically non-existent. Any tips or sources on getting started making, and eventually automating, effective backups?
I am stealing the concept here from jwz's backup guide, but I am recommending different tools, focusing on personal files only, and also addressing Windows. jwz's guide is a good reference:
Doing a way, way better job than most people of backing up one single system is very easy. Let us begin.
The most basic step of having decent backups is getting your hands on two external hard drives at least big enough to hold your entire system, and putting a label on them that says "BACKUP ONLY DO NOT USE FOR ANYTHING ELSE I AM BEING FOR REAL HERE"
Once you've got those, plug one into your system wherever it spends the most time. If you have a desktop then that's solved, if it's a laptop hopefully you already have a USB hub you plug it into when you sit down to work or whatever and you can just leave it there.
Now set up regular scheduled backups to that device. On Windows and Mac, there's a built in tool for backing up your system to an external drive. We'll assume that you just want to back up your user files on Windows and Linux, since doing full system backups isn't tricky but is kind of unnecessary.
(Ugh. Windows seems to be trying to phase out Windows Backup and Restore in favour of their File History thing. That's annoying, let me log in to windows and check how this actually works. Mac in the meantime)
Mac has Time Machine. Time Machine is extremely good, and you can tell Time Machine to save its backups to a disk. Point Time Machine at your external hard drive and tell it to schedule a backup however frequently you want. If anything goes wrong in the future, you can ask Time Machine to look at that backup disk and it'll show you a few versions of whatever you backed up there. I'm not a Mac user but I think you can even use Time Machine to transfer between an old computer and a new one.
Windows now has File History which I have never used in my life, they added it after I stopped using Windows. Same idea though, pick some folders and back them up to an external storage device. If anything goes wrong, use File History to go back through that device and find the version of the file you wanted. I don't know if there's still a way to access the older Backup and Restore system.
On Linux, my favoured way to manage simple desktop backups is Deja Dup, a GUI for Duplicity. Duplicity can do a lot more than just backup to a disk, but we'll start there. Install Deja Dup, open it up, and follow the prompts to back up your user files to the external drive. Deja Dup can also do backups to remote storage servers, Google Drive/Onedrive, and commercial storage providers like Amazon and Backblaze. It will even encrypt your backups if you are worried about Amazon spying on your files or whatever. If something goes wrong, point Deja Dup at your backup drive and it will offer you a suite of restore options covering a few versions.
Now, you have a permanently plugged in hard drive that will always get rolling backups you can restore from. These aren't safe from, say, ransomware, or your house burning down, but at least you won't lose anything when you update a computer or accidentally delete something and have an ohshit moment.
Now you take that other drive you bought, and do the same backup you're already doing to that. Now you go put it somewhere else where it's readily accessible and won't be accidentally used for anything, keep it at the office, give it to your dad, whatever. Set a reminder on your phone for once a month. Once a month, go get that drive, run another backup, and put it back. You now have better backups than many medium sized businesses.
This is impractical to scale beyond one PC, but if we're being honest even when I had like half a dozen laptops, only one contained much of value. Back up the system you care about.
Don't worry too much about making sure your backups are space efficient, like, yeah it would be a good idea to exclude game installs and stuff from your backups to save space but if that sounds daunting or time consuming literally do not do it. Decision paralysis is brain poison, just back it up and sort it out later. 2TB external hard drives are cheap.
FURTHER STEPS YOU CAN TAKE:
Easy Cloud backup: Backblaze personal backup on Windows and Mac is $6/month and pretty easy to use. If you are struggling to keep track of a monthly remote backup, or you want an easy remote backup. Backblaze is a reasonably reliable company and one of the Go To Companies in the world of data reliability. Yes, it's a cloud subscription. If you don't want that don't use it.
Network backup: If you have access to a storage server, that can be a good way to make a remote backup without having to shuttle disks around. That could be a physical server if you maintain some kind of lab, or it could be a cloud storage provider like Backblaze B2 or Onedrive or whatever. Deja Dup specifically supports backing up to a lot of different network storage providers, and even if you only have a fifty or sixty gigabytes of network storage on hand, your most essential personal files can probably fit in there.
Drive failures: Eventually one of your drives will fail, either your storage drive or your backup drive. If the storage drive fails, well, that's what the backup is for, go get a replacement and restore from the backup. If your backup drive fails, well, that's why you have two of them. As soon as humanly possible go get a replacement drive, and substitute it in for the dead one.

Hey! Question for anyone out there who
is working on archiving stuff in case it gets lost, and
is more familiar with coding than I am.
---
I've been backing up my Tumblr regularly for years now. I'm trying very hard to get into the habit of saving everything I create that's of value to me and NOT relying on a website I can't control to keep it saved…
And the problem with Tumblr's innate "download-a-backup" function is that once you've downloaded it, it seems you can't fully access it unless your Tumblr blog still exists and you have an internet connection capable of viewing it.
Which, like, defeats the whole purpose of a backup?
???
And there is no reason that HAS to be the case! The backup does download the text of all your posts, and a copy of every image you've ever posted! You CAN look at all these things individually, on your computer, in the backup folder you downloaded, without accessing the internet at all.
But for some incomprehensible reason, the backup doesn't create real links between them!
At least, not the images.
It does give you a whole lot of individual html documents containing the text of your posts. And it does give you a big "index" html document with links to all of those.
---
---
And as far as I can tell, all of THAT works fine, whether you access it on your own private computer, or upload it all to your own self-hosted html website, or whatever.
But the images embedded in those posts are NOT the copies that you have in the big, huge, giant image folder that you went to all that trouble to download with your backup!
They're the copies that Tumblr still has stored on THEIR website somewhere.
And the images will not show up in your downloaded posts, unless 1. Tumblr still has that content from your Tumblr blog up on their site, and 2. you are connected to the internet to see it.
So… the whole Tumblr download thing feels kinda useless. Unless we can fix that.
---
There are apparently other methods of downloading one's Tumblr blog. But from what I've read, the reliable methods that actually produce a usable archive with embedded images?... are methods that require using the command terminal on your computer.
I am not enough of a programmer to feel comfortable with that.
Maybe, if someone could give me good enough instructions that I could trust not to mess up other stuff on my computer in the process, I might try it.
But right now, I'm just focused on trying to fix the archive I already downloaded.
---
The closest I get to being a programmer is editing html documents in a code editor. (I have BBEdit for Mac, the full paid version.)
And I've made some progress in learning GREP (regex) commands in there. Because that's basically an extra-specialized version of doing search-and-replace in a document, and the logic of it makes a lot of intuitive sense to me.
Anyway. To illustrate what I'm saying. Here is the link to a post of mine on Tumblr with 2 embedded images.
It is a slightly hornyish post, and LGBTQ-focused, and contains an image from a movie copyrighted by a very litigious corporation.
And I'm not saying any of that, in itself, is enough to fear for its continued existence on Tumblr.
BUT, I'm not saying I 100% trust Tumblr with it, either.
So.... because of that, and the fact that it contains two embedded images with different extensions.... it's a good example to run my tests on.
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like on Tumblr:
---
---
Here is what the post looks like in the folders generated by the backup:
---
---
The "style.css" document in the folder is what it uses for some of the formatting. Which is pretty, but not necessary.
Html documents stored on your computer can be opened in a web browser, same as websites. Here is what that html document looks like if I open it in Firefox-- while it's that same folder-- with my internet connection turned on.
---
---
Here is what it looks like if I open it after moving it to a different folder-- internet connection still on, but no longer able to access that stylesheet document, because it's not in the same folder.
---
---
Either one of those looks would be fine with me. (And the stylesheet doesn't NEED the connection to Tumblr or the internet at all, so it is a valid part of a working backup.)
But here's where the problem starts.
These are the two images that this post uses. They're in another folder within the backup folder I downloaded:
---
---
But the downloaded html document of the post doesn't use them in the same way it uses the stylesheet.
It doesn't use them AT ALL.
Instead it uses whole different copies of them, from Tumblr's goddamn WEBSITE.
This is what the downloaded post looks like when I do NOT have an internet connection.
(First: from the same folder as the css stylesheet. Second: from a different folder without access to the stylesheet.)
---
---
Without internet, it won't show the pictures.
There is NO REASON this has to happen.
And I should be able to fix it!
---
This is what the code of that damn HTML page looks like, when I open it in my code editor.
---
---
First, it contains a lot of stuff I don't need at all.
I want to get rid of all the "scrset" stuff, which is just to provide different options for optimizing the displayed size of the images, which is not particularly important to me.
Which I do using the Grep command (.*?) to stand in for all that.
---
---
This, again, is basically just a search and replace. I'm telling the code editing program to find all instances of anything starting with srcset= and ending with a slash and close-caret, and replace each one with just the slash and close-caret.
This removes all the "srcset" nonsense from every image-embed.
Which makes my document easier for me to navigate, as I face the problem that the image-embeds still link to goddamn Tumblr.
---
---
My goal here is to replace those Tumblr links:
img src="https://64.media.tumblr.com/887612a62e9cdc3869edfda8a8758b52/0eeed3a3d2907da3-7c/s640x960/8fe9aea80245956a302ea22e94dfbe2c3506c333.jpg"
and
img src="https://64.media.tumblr.com/67cdeb74e9481b772cfeb53176be9ad8/0eeed3a3d2907da3-c6/s640x960/785c70ca999dc44e4d539f1ad354040fd8ef8911.png"
with links to the actual images I downloaded.
Now, if I were uploading all this backup to my own personally-hosted site, I would want to upload the images into a folder there, and make the links use images from that folder on my website.
But for now, I'm going to try and just make them go to the folder I have on my computer right now.
So, for this document, I'll just manually replace each of those with img src="(the filename of the image)."
---
---
Tumblr did at least do something to make this somewhat convenient:
it gave the images each the same filename as the post itself
except with the image extension instead of .html
(one of the images is a .jpg and the other is a .png)
and with numbers after the name (_0 and _1) to denote what order they're in.
This at least made the images easy to find.
And as long as I keep the images and the html post in the same folder--
and keep that folder within the same folder as a copy of the stylesheet--
---
---
--then all the formatting works, without any need for a connection to Tumblr's website.
---
---
Now.
If only I knew how to do that with ALL the posts in my archive, and ALL their embedded images.
And this is where my search-and-replace expertise has run out.
I know how to search and replace in multiple html documents at once. But I don't know how to do it for this specific task.
What I need, now, is a set of search-and-replace commands that can:
change every image-embed link in each one of those hundreds of html posts-- all that "https://64.media.tumblr.com/(two lines of random characters).(extension)" bullshit--
replacing the (two lines of random characters) with just the same text as the filename of whichever html document it's in.
then, add a number on the end of every filename in every image-embed-- so that within each html document, the first embed has a filename that ends in _0 before the image extension, and the second ends in _1, and so on.
I am fairly sure there ARE automated ways to do this. If not within the search-and-replace commands themselves, then some other option in the code editor.
Anyone have any insights here?

Kagami: (pulling out her phone) “Hey, what’s your Wi-Fi password?”
Konata: (offended) “Wi-Fi? Kagami, please. What do I look like, a casual?”
Kagami: “I just wanna check something real quick—”
Konata: “You think I’d subject my packet data to the electromagnetic soup of 2.4GHz interference and neighbor noise? Absolutely not.”
Kagami: (already regretting asking) “So... no password?”
Konata: “There’s no Wi-Fi. I run Cat6 throughout the house. All devices are hardwired into a managed switch. Static IPs, full subnet segmentation. I’ve got a pfSense box running on an old ThinkPad just to monitor ingress traffic.”
Kagami: “...Okay, but I just want to check Discord.”
Konata: “Use the guest terminal.” (gestures at a dusty beige CRT monitor on a side table)
Kagami: “That thing looks like it runs Windows 95.”
Konata: “Wrong. Void Linux. Headless. SSH in if you know how. Oh, and it’s on VLAN 40 so you won’t touch my NAS.”
Kagami: “You have a NAS?”
Konata: (beaming) “RAID 6, baby. 48 terabytes raw. ZFS snapshots. All my anime, games, and ‘research materials’ backed up nightly. Try that with your mom’s router from 2007.”
Kagami: “I hate that you’re like this.”
Konata: “That’s why you keep coming back.”
Tsukasa: (wandering in) “Konata, your computer closet is making whirring noises again…”
Konata: “That’s just the backup cronjob. Or the drive rebuild. Or the fans compensating for power draw. Don’t worry about it.”
Kagami: (sighing) “I just wanted to check my messages, not get inducted into the NSA.”
Konata: “Too late. Your MAC address is already logged.”

The Mark of the Bees
Title largely unrelated to subject matter (The Mark, book eight of the Left Behind series). I just wanted to say "The Mark of the Bees." And now I have. Thank you for your indulgence.
The characters, in case you've forgotten:
The Tribulation Force: Rayford Steele, pilot; Buck Williams, journalist; Chloe Williams, organizer; Kenny Williams, infant; Tsion Ben-Judah, internet evangelist and ex-rabbi; Chaim Rosenzweig, new Israeli convert; Mac McCullum, backup pilot; Abdullah Smith, backup to the backup pilot; Albie, former black-marketer, espionage expert; David Hassid, IT guy on the inside; Annie Christopher, David's girlfriend; Hattie Durham, bitter ex-girlfriend of the Beast.
The Global Community: Nicolae Carpathia, risen lord and deity of the GC, in other words, the Antichrist; Leon Fortunato, Satan's little helper; Viv Ivins, role unclear.
Okay, so Nicolae's just come back from the dead, but, despite extremely limited changes in demeanor, our lead characters know he's possessed by Satan. Alright, what does this mean for Nicolae himself? Is his soul in Hell? Is he trapped in his body? He had a decent relationship with Satan already; maybe they're copiloting? Stay tuned while I figure out which answer is funniest.
Tsion leads Chaim in Bible study, saying that soon he will be "an expert about our own people," meaning the Jewish people. Because, as we all know, Christians know more about Judaism than Jews do.
Many of the group's capers owe their success to Albie's fake identity as a GC officer. Rayford seeks a similar false identity, hoping that David can get him into the system at a higher rank than Albie. Never mind that Albie has proven himself better at this whole "Impersonating the enemy" business - Rayford's the leader, so he should outrank him in disguise too.
Buck gets a new car, which the narration gushes about. I guess I can't begrudge the authors their hobbies.
Rayford and Albie go looking for Hattie, who wound up in GC custody in the last book. On the way, they find Steve Plank, Buck's old boss who vanished from the story a few books ago. He's wounded and deformed, but he converted and opposes the GC from the inside under a false identity. I suppose the only question now is how he'll really die, given that no character with more than a few pages of relevance can leave the story any other way.
It turns out that Annie was killed in the last book, randomly lightning'd to death by Leon, but we only learn about it now. I think it would have been more impactful for David to see her die at the hands of the enemy rather than finding out about it after the fact, but maybe that's just me.
Hattie becomes a Christian, and I can only assume that her days are numbered now that her ongoing struggle has been resolved.
Tsion, via his blog posts internet transmissions, tells people not to take the titular Mark (of the Beast), despite the threat of death for not doing so, because it will irrevocably damn them to Hell, but he also says that True Christians with the seal of God on their foreheads "will not be able to turn [their] back on Christ." It's never explained what this means for people who might take the Mark. Do you lose your salvation if you take it? Does the Mark not affect the saved? Will the Mark simply not apply itself to a sealed believer? I have many questions and the book is very slow to answer them.
Leon discusses the rollout of the Mark, mentioning that people can choose "design and size" as well as its location. A few preset designs have been mentioned, but I wonder - can you design your own? That'd be kinda fun actually - a visual mark everyone gets, but everyone puts their own spin on it. New worldbuilding idea...
"You can just squeegee me off the floor and pour me down the drain." I will give you no context because it's funnier that way.
Nicolae's office is being renovated, and he asks for several full-length mirrors, because "Why deprive myself of the joy others luxuriate in? They get to look at me whenever they want." I aspire to this level of confidence in my body.
This series has exactly one running joke, and it's at the expense of Abdullah's limited English - he used the word "pout" as an adjective rather than a verb once, and now people ask him if he "is pout." It's funny only by comparison to the rest of the book, but I'll take what I can get.
Apparently "amateur craftsmen in their backyards" are making guillotines for the GC. All I can think of is reddit posts in the woodworking subreddit featuring pictures of cute, intricately decorated guillotines with a blurb about the wood and techniques used and how it'll be donated to the GC.
Buck and Albie, disguised, watch a group of Greek Christians get martyred for not taking the Mark. Too often this series tells without showing, but here we get the experience of watching your comrades die lovingly described to us. More of this please.
The narration refers to people who've taken the Mark as having "ignorantly sealed their fate." This is something I don't understand about whatever brand of Christianity the authors are pushing. In Catholicism, for example, if you commit a mortal sin without knowing it's wrong, your culpability in the eyes of God is reduced and you wouldn't automatically go to Hell if you died right then. But in LaHaye and Jenkins' world, you can do something without knowing it's wrong and God will reject you forever. Catholicism has its issues - why do you think I'm an atheist? - but at the very least its God is understanding of circumstances. The God of Left Behind wants to see people suffer.
Tsion finally reveals why saved Christians can't take the Mark to decieve their enemies and further their cause - God "miraculously overcomes" your self-preservation instincts and provides the "grace and courage" to go to your death. In other words, you can't take the Mark because God will mind-control you to refuse. That's not the answer I was expecting, but okay.
Our new friend Chang, a teenage believer who's about to be employed by the GC, is drugged and given the Mark despite his protests. He is still saved, because he never agreed to take the Mark. You'd think the same logic would apply to people being threatened with death if they don't take the mark, because consent under duress is not consent, but God wants to see people die for him, so Chang gets a special exception.
It's said that "no one would fake the mark of the beast," and it's mentioned that the penalty for doing so is death, but why wouldn't you at least try if the penalty for being caught without a Mark is death anyway? With the GC terrifically understaffed and security at an all-time low, it could buy a disguised believer some time, even if they didn't have the microchip that all marks contain. And there's nothing in the Scriptures that says a fake Mark will damn you.
Well, that was certainly a book. I can only assume the next one will be more frustrating.

Installing Kali Linux on a USB Stick: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you want a portable, powerful cybersecurity toolkit you can carry in your pocket, installing Kali Linux on a USB stick is the perfect solution. With Kali on a USB, you can boot into your personalized hacking environment on almost any computer without leaving a trace — making it a favorite setup for ethical hackers, penetration testers, and cybersecurity enthusiasts.

In this guide, we'll walk you through how to install Kali Linux onto a USB drive — step-by-step — so you can have a portable Kali environment ready wherever you go.
Why Install Kali Linux on a USB?
Before we dive into the steps, here’s why you might want a Kali USB:
Portability: Carry your entire hacking setup with you.
Privacy: No need to install anything on the host machine.
Persistence: Save your settings, files, and tools even after rebooting.
Flexibility: Boot into Kali on any system that allows USB boot.
There are two main ways to use Kali on a USB:
Live USB: Runs Kali temporarily without saving changes after reboot.
Persistent USB: Saves your files and system changes across reboots.
In this article, we’ll focus on setting up a Live USB, and I'll also mention how to add persistence if you want. and if you seek knowledge about kali linux you can visit our website any time
Website Name : Linux Tools Guide
What You’ll Need
✅ A USB drive (at least 8GB; 16GB or more recommended if you want persistence). ✅ Kali Linux ISO file (download it from the official Kali website). ✅ Rufus (for Windows) or Etcher/balenaEtcher (for Mac/Linux/Windows). ✅ A computer that can boot from USB.
Step 1: Download the Kali Linux ISO
Go to the Kali Linux Downloads page and grab the latest version of the ISO. You can choose between the full version or a lightweight version depending on your USB size and system requirements.
Tip: Always verify the checksum of the ISO to ensure it hasn't been tampered with!
Step 2: Insert Your USB Drive
Plug your USB stick into your computer. ⚠️ Warning: Installing Kali onto the USB will erase all existing data on it. Backup anything important first!
Step 3: Create a Bootable Kali Linux USB
Depending on your operating system, the tool you use may vary:
For Windows Users (using Rufus):
Download and open Rufus (Get Rufus here).
Select your USB drive under Device.
Under Boot selection, choose the Kali Linux ISO you downloaded.
Keep the Partition scheme as MBR (for BIOS) or GPT (for UEFI) based on your system.
Click Start and wait for the process to complete.
For Mac/Linux Users (using balenaEtcher):
Download and open balenaEtcher (Get Etcher here).
Select the Kali ISO.
Select the USB drive.
Click Flash and wait until it's done.
That's it! You now have a Live Kali USB ready.
Step 4: Boot Kali Linux from the USB
Restart your computer with the USB plugged in.
Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F12, Esc, Del, or F2 right after starting the computer).
Change the boot order to boot from the USB first.
Save changes and reboot.
You should now see the Kali Linux boot menu! Select "Live (amd64)" to start Kali without installation.
(Optional) Step 5: Adding Persistence
Persistence allows you to save files, system changes, or even installed tools across reboots — super useful for real-world usage.
Setting up persistence requires creating an extra partition on the USB and tweaking a few settings. Here's a quick overview:
Create a second partition labeled persistence.
Format it as ext4.
Mount it and create a file /persistence.conf inside it with the content: cppCopyEdit/ union
When booting Kali, choose the "Live USB Persistence" option.
Persistence is a little more technical but absolutely worth it if you want a real working Kali USB system!
Troubleshooting Common Issues
USB not showing up in boot menu?
Make sure Secure Boot is disabled in BIOS.
Ensure the USB was properly written (try writing it again if necessary).
Kali not booting properly?
Verify the ISO file integrity.
Try a different USB port (preferably USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 sometimes).
Persistence not working?
Double-check the /persistence.conf file and make sure it's correctly placed.
Conclusion
Installing Kali Linux onto a USB stick is one of the smartest ways to carry a secure, full-featured hacking lab with you anywhere. Whether you’re practicing ethical hacking, doing security audits, or just exploring the world of cybersecurity, a Kali USB drive gives you power, portability, and flexibility all at once.
Once you’re set up, the possibilities are endless — happy hacking! 🔥

Spoilers for LMK Season 5 Episodes 1 and 2 (again) below the cut!!
Better audio! Let’s go!
The intro, my beloved!
Tired MK, nap now or you may never get the chance.
“Way batter monkey mountain” I missed that before.
SpongeBob style zoom in is hilarious
“I already said the thing!”
SWK wants MK to be as immortal as he is, of only so they can play fight without him holding back at all. I can feel it.
They destroy mountains in the show more than anything else.
MK, The Small Sage of ignoring his problems until they go away except they never go away.
“A surprise?” The fact that this many thousands of years old monkey is so excited for surprises is adorable.
Mac doing his lurking.
“You really are the worst mentor” Mac, I love you, but you are not any better. Remember the anime style video game?
“We” will get me every time.
I kinda wonder is LBD was actually the one to like, fully bring Mac back or if someone else did and he doesn’t remember.
“You need to do better” you’re not being super fair there, like SWK is trying. Maybe step up and also be a monkey mentor if you’re so concerned.
Pigsy doing his fast little hammer trying to get it finished faster.
MK, if you weren’t ready why did you call him over?
The house!! Genuinely hope nothing happens to it this season. (Tell me it’s not gonna become this shows version of the Bounty)
I was so distracted my the pictures I didn’t notice the drawings!!! OMG!!! MK you’re the best!!
Love Mei in those overalls BTW, super cute.
Hugs!!!
It’s funny that MK can activate Tangs power for him.
It’s interesting to see that the only major difference with the animation is the characters. Like the cinematography is still really similar. It’s just rigged animation now.
If anyone has any insomniac!MK getting comforted by Pigsy (or any of his dads) fic recs, please share them because this is the good stuff.
Also MK is the anti Steven Universe. Steven collects moms and MK collects dads. (But obvs Pigsy is like number 1 Dad. Pigsy gets the worlds greatest dad mug and Tang, Sandy, and SWK all get mugs that say “backup dad” and then a number in order of when he met them. Because I think it’s funny.)
I love how Pigsy knows forcing him to bed is 100% the wrong thing to do here. Like this is something he’s dealt with multiple times.
MK cooks like I do. It’s okay MK, I don’t know how to freestyle either, that’s why I’m the baker of the family.
The animation shift of the food that’s missing something and the finished thing is so nice. I lost how it shifts from looking bland to looking SOO GOOD.
I want those noodles.
Baby MK!!
I would die for Pigsy. Like, he’s such a good character.
I wonder if the burning of FFM is canon and if Mac helped save all the baby monkeys. That would make sense as to why they cling to him.
Every season MK gets further and further for a good nights sleep, for only pennies a day, you could sponsor a monkie kid and help him receive a nap. In return, he will be well rested to prevent monsters from destroying the city.
Team Let MK Rest!
Little monkeys are scared. It’s okay little monkeys, they won’t destroy your mountain this time, probably, maybe.
Episode 2 time!
Took a break because internet was being mean to me. (Wouldn’t load)
Have I mentioned how much I love the new intro?
SWK is unimpressed with the lords of the underworld’s intimidation tactics
I love how MK still uses/wears Monkey King merch even though they’re friends now. Do you think SWK has a closet full of unreleased merch he has saved to give MK as gifts? Because MK would love that.
Mac is also unimpressed. Very “been here done this before”.
Ace attorney MK!!!
“We have brought a power even greater than yours” *brings out Nezha and Li Jing* did you guys read JTTW? Because like…beating these guys was how SWK got recognized as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven.
Cheeky monkey
The panic in Mac’s eyes when he realizes what’s happening is fascinating.
I kinda wonder where they got the fillet, cause in the book they were given to Guan-Yin by Buddha. I doubt Buddha was like “you need to subdue the Monkey King again? Yeah sure, have this super powerful thing”
Also SWK still trying to comfort MK even when dealing with this thing.
Your honor, they are divorced.
Tang is the only one who can teach MK anything.
Painted style sections my beloved.
“It’s his lawyer bit.” They’re both so used to MK’s antics
SWK’s obnoxious younger brother vibes whenever Nezha is present are my favorite.
Heaven getting flashbacks to SWK’s last rampage
I think there should be a running gag that MK’s style and Sandy’s style are total opposites so every time MK rebuilds something of Sandy’s there’s a little chibi Sandy mourning the new look. It’s be funny.
You know Mac, if you just portaled Wukong into the truck sooner you probably wouldn’t have gotten caught.
Also sad SWK face will always get me.

Rapid Response Time:
One of our main advantages over most companies is our quick response time. Most on-site computer repair companies make you wait days for service, and if you drop it off at a shop, they make you wait days to complete the repair. Why does it take them so long? Because they do not prioritize every single customer! We consistently offer same day or next day service, with most repairs being finished on-site that day. For the repairs that need to be taken back to the shop, we prioritize those too. We boast an average turnaround time of only 2 days, and we drop it off to you when it's done, or you can pick it up.

👹 I noticed something after finally completing my Reaper's Rewards. Today I investigated.
"KEEP READING" to read this on Tumblr.
It's important that you know how your game works when you're dealing with bullshit.
Happy At Home IS - for lack of a better explanation - "account-bound". It's just done incompetently and that's why the "NEW CONTENT" gold badge keeps popping up on the CAS items (I haven't checked the BB objects).
Reaper's Rewards IS NOT "account-bound", it's EAxis "server-bound".
Entitlement data is pulled from the server and stored in "accountDataDB.package". EA App must be in Online Mode for this to happen. If your EA App is in Offline Mode - intentionally because you did it yourself or unintentionally because you have !@#$ internet like me or because EAxis' servers are !@#$ - and you lose your "accountDataDB.package" and cannot reconnect to EAxis' servers, you will lose access to your "server-bound" rewards until you can reconnect and relaunch the game.
You need to actually launch or relaunch the game while both EA App and The Sims 4 are in Online Mode for this entitlement data to populate the "accountDataDB.package". I might refine this statement in the future if I decide to troubleshoot more.
Let's talk about the difference between how Happy At Home was initially full-arsed and how Reaper's Rewards is unlocked.
Happy At Home was never "server-bound" or "account-bound", it was "device-bound". It stored one-time (like the way EAxis said they'll only fix their Live Event !@#$ ups "one-time, make-good" - yeah, they ain't gettin' away from that statement) entitlement data in the "UserSetting.ini" file, which meant if your .INI was deleted or corrupted or lost, there goes your Happy At Home rewards. Of course, this could be easily remedied for simmers on PC and Mac, etc. by just adding the required string of entitlement data back into the .INI - which EAxis refused to tell you or let anyone else tell you - but console simmers were !@#$ed unless they could access the Gallery and find one of the Households or Rooms with all the rewards that were uploaded by "Good Samaritan" simmers.
The initial Happy At Home full-arsery evolved into what we have now AKA the buggy "NEW CONTENT" half-arsed "account-bound" unlock - they say it's "account-bound" but it could be a half-arsed "override patch" similar to my no-arse Happy At Home FOMO Unlock. Yuh can't pull the wool over my eyes, fam, I've been gaming for half of my life and I know how to do some !@#$.
As explained above, Reaper's Rewards is... different. On the bright side of EAxis seemingly only now starting to learn how to "Live Event account-bound" in 2024, it means if you lose your "accountDataDB.package" you can still get your entitlement data back by "simply" reconnecting to EAxis' servers and launching or relaunching the game. This wasn't possible with Happy At Home. On the dark side, it means if EAxis !@#$s up on their end and you've lost your "accountDataDB.package", you can permanently lose Reaper's Rewards.
On the me side, 🦄 my FOMO Unlocks give zero !@#$s about EAxis and their "server-bound" entitlements and "account-bound" half-arsery. They will always work unless EAxis decides to !@#$ around.
It never ends, does it?
Why do game publishers insist on holding our games hostage after taking our money? Did you hear about the recent fiascos with other publishers removing purchased games from customers' libraries?
The last time the industry crashed it was the fault of the publishers. If it crashes again, it will be the fault of the publishers again - not the pirates and not "woke ideology" or pronouns or gender-neutral vocabulary. I'm soap-boxing, sorry.
If you'd like to test my claim...
1️⃣ EXIT the game.
2️⃣ BACKUP your "accountDataDB.package" for your own ease of mind - I just delete mine, I don't give no !@- 😹 You can simply RENAME it to "accountDataDB.packageOFF". You need "File name extensions" ENABLED to do this.

3️⃣ GO OFFLINE in EA App.

4️⃣ LAUNCH the game and enter CAS. The game can be in Online Mode, it don't matter.
5️⃣ Reaper's Rewards has Clothing Top and Clothing Bottom CAS items so choose either of those categories and try to FILTER for the SPECIAL "Event Rewards" tag. It ain't there, innit? It ain't there because Reaper's Rewards aren't available. Reaper's Rewards aren't available because you ain't got no entitlement data on your account.

6️⃣ Because we can, switch to Full Body and FILTER again for "Event Rewards"… Oh look! Half-arsed Happy At Home is here! Yes, I know I punctuated "it's" wrong.

7️⃣ Now that you've seen what you can't un-know, EXIT the game, DELETE the new "accountDataDB.package", RENAME the old "accountDataDB.packageOFF" to remove the "OFF", GO ONLINE in EA App (or not, it doesn't matter because the entitlement data is in your old "accountDataDB.package") and gwan wit yo bad self.
EAxis doesn't know what the !@#$ they're doing and they should stop this !@#$ and go back to SDX... or they do and they're intentionally !@#$ing around. 👹
I said I wouldn't talk about Happy At Home again.
Technically I'm talking about Reaper's Rewards.
It's important that you know how your game works when you're dealing with bullshit.
Cheers!
I will never get into the "EA Partnership Program" thing with my attitude. 😹

Ask response:
"If you answer this ask (you don't have to), can you block my name? I'd rather be anonymous, but I wanted to ask if you know of any good places to host media like Discord? Or just place where you can leave and label the stuff? Because I have discord servers that contain my own story ideas and pictures to go alongside it, and while I can store it all on a USB, I'd rather have it all in one place where I can access. Sorry, I know I'm not really phrasing this well, but do you know of anywhere you can store ideas, text, pictures, links, etc, that are simple and easy to use? Like I can load it up, log in, or whatever place a picture I have for a certain story full HD, and it stays there forever until I delete it never looses its quality or the text I place can be edited and added to"
My apologies for the inconvenience of not having anon asks on, I got hazed by some people back in the Homestuck days and once was enough. Some people are cruel cowards and I won't subject myself to such harassment again.
There's several. I recommend using multiple sources:
Google Drive. Basic space is free, but it's Google. Storage is at least cheap, if you need more. I won't link this.
Dropbox. The OG online storage backup. Cheap.
OwnCloud. It's simple to get up and running. There's a cool markdown text app called qownnotes that can hook into this, too!
Github and its competitors. You can make a repository with all your stuff and folders, mark it private.
Use a wiki service. There's a few FOSS wiki solutions! DON'T USE FANDOM!!
Neocities. If you pay 5$ a month, you're doing a good deed and you can make your own funky website, too.
Archive Of Our Own, aka Ao3 for your text. You can set it to only you can see it! If you have hosting space, you can actually fork the software for it! It's an archive! It's what it's for! It has an original work section!
BACK UP YOUR STUFF LOCALLY! Big local storage has gotten way, way more affordable. You can get a 2 tera solid state external drive for under 120 dollars, a spinny disk external drive for under 70$. If you don't want to use Amazon, check out Best Buy or a local computer shop for options.
You're most likely gonna use money. I know money's really, really tight for a lot of people and the situation just plain sucks. I can't do much but offer options for people to ponder.
My recommendation is to back up your stuff to a physical location, and to rent online storage space with multiple vendors. If you don't mind using google for now, use both GDrive and Dropbox for simplicity. If you don't mind doing more and learning some things, use Dropbox with OwnCloud, and post your text to Ao3.
I do NOT recommend Imgur for photo backup.
I do NOT recommend Apple services unless you already have an iPhone/Mac device.

The Sims 3 Folders Explained.
Collections - Consists of collections created in-game.
ContentPatch - Patch downloaded through launcher will be stored here. DontBugMeUntilNextPatch is a file placed here if you don't accept the patch download, so you won’t get the prompt in Launcher again.
CurrentGame.sims3 - Contains all the data from currently loaded Save Game. It's present when the game is running.
Custom Music - Contains music player can add (in .mp3 format and 128 kb bitrate) and listen to on Custom Music radio channel in-game.
DCBackup - Contains CCMerged file, and packages of every installed content. After installing store/premium/custom content, it is safe to remove all files from here except CCMerged.
DCCache - Contains all installed store and custom content. There are four different file types in this folder:
*.dbc: All third party content. Do not delete!
*.ebc: Store content. Do not delete!
missingdeps.idx: Created when content doesn't fully load or is corrupted - safe to delete.
dcc.ent: Gets recreated when deleted.
Content is compressed together in one file. When the game finds that file full to its' capacity, it creates another one. The content of all these files are things found in InstalledContent section of the Launcher. Deleting these files will mean deleting ALL custom/store content from your game.
Downloads - Contains Sims3Packs you install through the Launcher. After installing it is safe to copy these files elsewhere (another folder or external drive) and remove the from this folder.
FeaturedItems - Contains images of all Store content shown in CAS, Build/Buy Catalog. Safe to delete.
IGACache - EA marketing tool. Safe to delete.
InstalledWorlds - Contains installed worlds. From Store or other custom worlds. DO NOT DELETE!
Library - Households and houses installed through Launcher.
Mods - Contains mods and custom content in .package files. This folder needs to be manually created. ModTheSims tutorial.
Recorded Videos - Videos player records in-game.
SavedSims - Sims saved in CAS library and installed through Launcher. Each Sim has their own file.
Saves - Player's save files. Each file has their own folder and .backup folder. Should be backed up regularly. The folders with .bad extension imply corruption and should be deleted.
Screenshots - Pictures player takes in-game.
SigsCache - Origin and Store activities information.
Thumbnails - Cache of all thumbnail photos across the game. Saved for faster loading. Safe to delete, but will cause slower loading next time game starts.
WorldCaches - Contains caches for played worlds. Windows users can delete them safely, Mac users should not!
Options.ini - Contains your game and graphic options set in the game.
UserPresets.package - Colors and patterns saved in Create-a-Style, Create-a-Sim (CAS) or Build/ Buy Mode.
Version.tag - Contains information about the game's version.
Crinrict - User Files Explained.

Logged in on my early access playthrough on the Mac (which I need to speed through finishing and like, backup my save files since the full version is now out for the Mac), forgetting that I had Wyll out for some reason, and took a look at my party
I'm just going to pretend that's Bing Bong, and my precious imp son lives (and he lost his little bowtie after the unfortunate incident in Athkatla)

update for the 4 of you reading this that care (this isn't meant to be pessimistic I just mean that very few of my friends follow me on here lol)
I feel like my art has been stagnating for a long time and it's mostly because I limit myself to fandoms and the attention I get for my fanart messes with the way I value my self-worth so a few months back I decided I wanted to start doing a lot more with my art to gain more personal fulfillment and to give myself a direction i actually wanted to take it in so that i felt like i was making progress and going somewhere with it. I was making plans to create a proper portfolio of things that weren't star wars yaoi or the dudes from fall out boy fucking, and I was planning on launching a YouTube channel where I posted speedpaints and stuff and I actually made some decent progress
I drew something I was really proud of and I knew the content in it would be pretty popular despite still technically being fanart, and I had a time-lapse recorded for it and everything, I was even halfway through the script. I also had a number of original drawings I'd done that I never posted anywhere and I felt like by this time I should have been able to properly launch this stuff and start taking appropriate steps to have my art reach a wider audience.
butttttt then my laptop died suddenly and randomly (i was literally using it just fine, i lifted it up from my lap and it shut off and wouldnt turn back on) and it's been in the repair shop for a week and they still don't know what's wrong with it. they think it's a motherboard issue and if it ends up being at least $600 to repair it I'm just getting a new laptop. I think they can transfer the data on the hard drive to an external that I have and if so that'd be wonderful because that laptop contains all the work I've been doing these last few months for this thing I wanna do with my art.
thankfully since then my roommate is letting me have one of his backup gaming pcs (he works in tech so he has plenty) and I've been able to get set up there in case I need to start my progress over, but the issue is that it's a Linux and clip studio literally doesn't work with Linux because the desktop version of the program apparently relies on either edge being installed if it's windows, or safari being installed if it's Mac. so I can't sign in or download the full version, I'm stuck with the super limited trial version, and because of this I've been trying to get comfortable with Krita. which thankfully can record time-lapses.
my mental health has only been improving since moving to Seattle despite some pretty low lows so thankfully, even though this is uh a pretty big deal all things considered, I'm handling it really well. I had one horrible encounter with a psychiatrist when trying to get treatment for my anxiety and adhd, but since my insurance here sucks since I'm poor and nothing has worked for my other issues I've been fortunate to be able to see doctors about, I've officially become a crystal mommy and I've resorted to ~alternative medicines~ and as a result I've had a considerable amount of improvement in a very short amount of time with the things I've struggled with getting help with from a professional psychiatrist. so yeah, I'm only getting better
biggest issue that still impacts me is that my attempts at befriending people irl have not borne much fruit, granted I haven't been trying super hard but with a huge covid spike coming up soon, said weak attempts are going to have to be put on hold for the time being. especially since the main thing I was literally going to do as soon as Christmas was over was join this drawing group that meets up every other Sunday, but now I don't have my laptop so it'll just have to wait regardless of what the state of things are looking like otherwise
uhhh what else. oh yeah I got into Chinese yaoi and Indian cinema and I got out of my head enough to start playing genshin impact again so basically I'm a huge faggot ama
OH SHIT I forgot to mention I got another horrible job and I'm kind of trapped into keeping it for at least a year unless something catastrophic happens because it's giving me really important experience in the field I'm trying to go into, but when I say it sucks I mean it's probably the most disorganized place I've ever worked at that wasn't a locally owned franchise. I work at an open-access low income healthcare organization that's all over Seattle so when I say it's terrible and disorganized I think you get the picture
anyway I don't know how often I'll be on here but I'm bored and lonely and scrolling through tumblr seems like a better use of my time than spending an entire shift looking at r/shittyfoodporn

@denniis ... plotted.
it had been... well, a night to say the very least. nadine was still full from a dinner they had totally eaten before yelling at the reynolds family. and while they'd had wine from the restaurant, hooked up in dennis' car, it seemed that the night wasn't over. they didn't want to it to be, but they were expecting a little more pushback from him. he always loved to say something about being busy or needing space or blah blah blah, but not tonight. tonight, he actually smiles at the idea.
so nadine changes out of the stupid, ugly and uncomfortable dress they had worn to dinner, changing into some of the backup clothes that dennis always keeps in the back of their car. yeah, they're all too big on them, but it is the exact kind of wardrobe they need for an evening like this.
paddy's is empty, aside from mac behind the bar. poor guy only gets a little wave as the both of them head right for a booth towards the back. apparently alcohol was not the only thing on their minds, because they had forgotten to grab any, their first time passing the bar.
it's not until they're sitting down in the booth that nadine even realizes. "shit! shit. we gotta get the booze, den." well, they don't have to. it's obvious from how big their grin is and how they're on the edge of a giggle that it really doesn't matter at all. "do you guys keep anything to eat around here?" okay. so maybe they weren't entirely full. when were they ever? "i'm like, starving."
