I take it you have seen the movie. Should I be scared?
Like I don't wanna watch it for the movie. I wanna watch it because I respect Dean Deblois for having made my favorite film and this is him directing his first live action piece and I want him to succeed.
And also for the soundtrack. The titles are taking me out. Should I be worried? But it's John Powell. I'm so torn.
Would the httyd fandom love this? Don't give me the Gen Z Youtube comments who have probably watched Rescue Riders as kids. Gimme the old fandom review. You were there.
Would the og fandom keel over from shock, or is this actually somewhat decent? hALP
I have the ability to watch it this weekend and I'm so unsure about it
I posted some detailed thoughts here a couple days ago: https://www.tumblr.com/dragon-in-a-fez/786072155911815168/thoughts-on-live-action-httyd-from-someone-who-was?source=share
but in a nutshell, it's not perfect but it's good. all the various elements of it kind of sort into three categories for me:
they did something new with it and it works (Nico Parker's Astrid, parts of the Red Death fight)
they did very much the same thing with it and it works (Gerard Butler's live action Stoick, the Test Drive scene)
they did very much the same thing with it and it doesn't work (a lot of Gobber tbh)
there wasn't anything new that I thought was bad. unlike every other live action adaptation I can think of, anywhere it let me down it was from trying to be too faithful to the original. no shade to him but it really does show that this is Dean DeBlois's first live action movie.
I think I'll need to watch it at least a couple more times before I can look at it through any lens other than comparing it to the original, but I enjoyed it enough that I will actually want to watch it multiple times! my main feeling at the moment is actually that I hope it does well enough to get sequels, because I hope as DeBlois grows as a live action writer/director he'll give us movies that take better advantage of the space the medium gives him to tell different versions of the stories we love.
oh and as for the soundtrack, it's perfect as usual.

The Barbier Family.

Louise (Chloé and Sydnee's mom)
Louise was a French actress. Her mom is where Chloé mostly gets her looks from. Louise is a pretty much straightforward mom, but supportive. She is very protective of her daughters and is not afraid to speak her mind or do anything to protect her family.

Alexandre Barbier (Chloé and Sydnee's dad)
Alexandre is the chill but overprotective dad. He's passionate about his vodka business and is proud of his success. He's still humble about it though, and attributes his success to his family. He's also friends with TC's dad.

Sydnee (Chloé's younger sister)
Birthday: February 15th, 2007
Zodiac: Aquarius
Sydnee is 18 years old, she recently graduated from LaGuardia. She is basically your average Gen Z teen in a nutshell (except she isn't American, she's French). Sydnee speaks more English but she does speak French occasionally. Sydnee favors both of her parents in looks though. Being the youngest, Sydnee does get the "youngest daughter" syndrome. She's very close with her sister. Sydnee also likes to be on trend with the current things. She did competitive dance when she was younger and still knows the dances. She was the popular girl at LaGuardia (because TC is friends (fwb) with her older sister, or maybe Sydnee is naturally a goofy and outgoing person?) Sydnee is also currently dating the live action Hiccup guy.

The main character herself... Chloé.
Birthday: March 26th, 2002
Zodiac: Aries
Chloé is 23 years old, the eldest daughter of the Barbier family. She is a ballet dancer, a prima ballerina. Chloé is outgoing, goofy, artsy, classy, and some describe her as elegant and graceful. She is a huge perfectionist, and blames herself if anything goes wrong. She's very artsy and likes deep and romantic things.

Fathering a son means thinking about the advice you’re going to give him as he gets bigger. If you’re like me, it’s not something you ever really planned for ahead of time. Marriage and family were, for most of my 20s, not something I was seriously considering, and then it happened when I least expected it.
Relationships come to mind as one of the minefields your kid is going to need help navigating. And if you’re like me, you had to figure stuff out on your own. It’s strange to look back on the weird jungle of dating, and writing about it makes you feel like a “boomer” no matter what. So I asked a few friends what it’s like as a male member of Gen Z. In a nutshell, they said that the cost-benefit of approaching women just doesn’t make sense in many cases. There’s a perceived lack of seriousness and sincerity. That is to say, the Zoomer guys I spoke with feel like a lot of females in their generational cohort aren’t really interested in a long-term relationship or have unreasonable standards, such as staunch political preferences. “Don’t swipe if you vote Republican” sort of thing. You’re also liable to be called a weirdo for engaging in behavior that was until recently considered normal or becoming an object of ridicule online, the way one sad soul did after he made a move on the only girl to attend a “hackathon.”

Waow how is a take as easily digestable as "stop willfully distorting the words I and people around me use because you think the sounds are funny, it's disrespectful." getting pushback. (Not talking about the anon with a genuine question)
(whenever I hear one of these chucklefuck white guys call a lady a gyatt I wanna hit em with my thousand dictionary attack)
Yeah I don't really care about the "this word has become modern slang and is so common that many people don't know the history" because like. That's just English in a nutshell to be perfectly honest.
But what I do mind is "people who aren't the ones using this word have decided that it actually means this other thing, and have made a negative public impression regarding the use of this word, before deciding that the word was Not Good To Say after all and moving on, all while the original speakers of this word still use it in its correct form except now everyone thinks even more poorly of them for doing so"
Do you know how many videos I've seen on my FB recommendeds and it's all white people making fun of "gen z slang" except it's 100% AAVE and incredibly bastardized AAVE that yes doesn't make any fucking sense and sounds like nonsense because that's what happens when you decide grammar rules and definitions don't matter as long as the word makes a funny noise. Y'all out here speaking Simlish and then get mad when black people tell you it's actually not funny to mock our dialects.
And like. I'm not on TikTok or Insta or Twitter but I have seen videos of black people saying exactly this and pointing out the problem so at this point to me it's willful ignorance that black people have been saying this and (general) you're still having a fit at me for saying exactly what other black people have been saying about it.

A few months ago, alongside other proud parents, I sat watching my teenager’s GCSE drama class showcase: a dozen short plays, devised and performed with gusto by small groups of pupils. In terms of theme, there was a definite attraction to the darker side of life; indeed, in nearly every play there was a hair-raising death. Another repetitive strand — at least, in pieces written partly or wholly by the girls — was the shoddiness of men’s behaviour.
One character struggled to find the kettle after his wife had died, having never used it before; another was violent to his family; and what viewer could forget the fiendish theatre manager, forcing dancers to take stimulants so that they could work longer hours? Worst of all, though, was the policeman who was also a serial killer, dramatically strangling his detective wife on stage after she discovered he was the culprit. There were also quite a few impassioned speeches about the prevalence of patriarchy and misogyny in society.
At the final curtain, I looked around at the mild-mannered, supportive fathers in the audience, many of whom had cut work short to be there. What could these men have done to their children, I wondered. Or, more seriously: was it possible to give young women today some awareness of male violence without causing them to write all men off?
I remembered this moment as the topic of political polarisation among young people hit the news last week. Across the world, Gen Z is fracturing along gametal lines like no generation before it, with females tending to be more progressive and males espousing more conservative positions. In fact, this trend has been noticed by analysts for decades, but it has gained urgency recently in combination with concern about declining birth rates. After all, if many young women are insisting they will never kiss a Tory, while more and more young men are becoming Tories, then in terms of future population figures we may be in more trouble than was first thought.
Various explanations have been offered for the deepening division. Some of them are useful: emphasising the unhelpful role of social media, for instance, or the decline of traditionally male-associated jobs. Other theories give an inadvertent clue to the underlying problem, in that they tend to present young women’s attraction to the modern left as positive-sounding or at least reasonable, while the increased conservatism of young men is couched as stemming from petty resentment and personal insecurities.
So, for instance, we are told that young women tend to be in sympathy with progressive causes because they still shoulder the burden of care work and so better understand the importance of looking out for one another; or because they are more keenly aware of inequalities yet to be eliminated in the sexual arena. Young men, on the other hand, are thought to feel emasculated and inadequate by women’s social empowerment and wish to return to a more traditional setup in which their dominance is more secure. Plus they are watching too many Andrew Tate videos.
In a nutshell, then, young women’s political views are taken seriously but young men’s are framed as a result of maladaptive psychology and an inability to cope with loss of status. If this is the calibre of explanation offered, no wonder the latter are feeling hacked off. There should be parity here: either we psychologise both sides of the ideological divide, or neither.
And explaining female progressivism away psychologically would be easy enough to do. Since today’s left seems largely to be interested in dismantling social norms rather than standing up for any, its allure for young women could be explained in terms of high levels of feminine agreeableness and a confusion between being socially permissive and kind.
An alternative line of inquiry might be those studies suggesting a woman is more likely than a man to make a political stance part of her social image, incentivising her to feel animosity towards opposing positions as part of identity differentiation. If this were true, it would mean that many of her political affiliations were formed reactively in response to those of perceived male opponents — which would make her look somewhat resentment-fuelled too.
In fact, we might even suspect that the mutual animosity between women and men came first and their respective voting patterns second, as a symptom of their rivalry and not a cause. In her 2017 book Kill All Normies, Angela Nagle described how the toxic aggression of the male-dominated online right emerged as a psychic counterpart to the passive aggression and self-righteousness of female-dominated online spheres like Tumblr, full of posters obsessed with identity politics “calling out” behaviour they didn’t like. And there’s still a sense today that each side is locked in a dysfunctional dance with the other, taking extreme cases in the opposite camp as proof of their own suspicions of victimhood, and moving further apart in the process.
But though hypotheses like these may be interesting, if the aim is actually to solve the problem, they won’t get us far. Reducing division requires a charitable understanding of why people on each side feel as they do: empathy, not in the superficial sense of mindless cooing, but looking for what is reasonable in each side’s conclusions and taking their points seriously — even if ultimately you disagree with them. Only that way will we be able to uncover shared goals.
If it is true that young men want a return to more traditional gender roles, then why do they want this? What do they think will be better about the world as a result? Are they right? And the same goes, of course, for the views of young women attracted to the progressive end of the spectrum. Older generations can do their bit by avoiding indulging in caricatures of the opposite sex as a whole, no matter how satisfying it feels in the moment. Like it or not, we are stuck with each other; we may as well try to find common ground.
Always look on the dark side of the asteroid
Back in the late Nineties, friends I knew would rhapsodise about chaos theory between spliff drags, and the idea that a butterfly flapping its wings might accidentally cause a tornado on the other side of the world. This week brought us an updated example of unintended consequences: Nasa has deliberately blown up an asteroid as part of an attempt to protect the Earth from future strikes, and in the process set huge boulders on course to smash into Mars. Who knows what further chains of possibilities will now be disrupted or unexpectedly set in motion? We might have inadvertently wiped out a race of Martians, or perhaps hastened their arrival as our overlords instead.
Only time will tell. In the meantime, it’s a salutary reminder of what seems a trend: those with power to change things focusing optimistically on the best possible outcome and not the worst. Perhaps we can’t stop the effects of butterfly wings, but we could at least pay more attention to predictable negative outcomes of interventions. Lockdowns are a case in point — it wasn’t hard to foresee they would have a horrible effect on kids, and indeed several experts were shouting it from the rooftops at the time. Still, it was as if leaders’ minds could only focus on one or two big problems at once. Equally, as AI now transforms the economic and social landscape, I feel under-confident that its cheerleaders are addressing obvious downsides. Perhaps the Martians will do better when they eventually arrive.

Imagine if these plays had the sexes switched.
Demonizing men has become so normalized, people think it's actually true. But if you can vilify half the population with complete impunity and normalcy, that half is not "oppressing" you. In fact, it would appear you hold all the societal power. You can't be both "oppressed" and a protected class.

4 Bookstagram books that I've read and are worth the hype.
i am a typical Gen-z Instagram user, the one who consumes the most viral videos when they emerge on my Instagram feed. besides the entertaining Instagram feed there's one thing that keeps me scrolling on my phone for hours and that's a sub community called Bookstagram. in a nutshell, Booktagaram or BookTok is a popular hashtag used where users post quick videos, reviewing and recommending novels that generally fall within the genre of young adult and romance. Its a collection of young, impassioned readers inspiring countless others to join the club. a TikTok or Instagram book is quite simply a book that has organically gained popularity on the app, you'll find recommendations based on popular tropes like "forced proximity", "who did this to you" and yes of course "enemies to lovers."
the real challenge is not to find a book to read because there's countless readers recommending countless books on Instagram, but which book is actually worth reading or worth the hype? I have made the task easier...here are my top four BookTok books that I have read and are actually worth the hype.
#1 TWISTED LOVE by ANA HUANG
this right here! this is the book that took the entire internet by storm, the morally grey male lead and the sunshine female lead will keep you hooked up to this book for days.
Ana Huang, after the success of twisted love emerged a series called 'The Twisted Series' comprising four books but when talking about the entire series i have mixed feelings about it. all the four books have different tropes and different endings that's bonus points for the series. coming back to the Twisted Love, an explosive dark romance mixed with witty humor is definitely a page turner.
#2 SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by TAYLOR JENKINS
Have you really been on BookTok if you haven't encountered a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid? this cult classic historical fiction released in 2017 follows Monique Grant, a journalist who has been selected by the glamourous yet reclusive Hollywood starlet and movie icon, Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn wants Monique to write an exclusive story about her life. the book unfolds, Monique soon discovers how her life intersects with Evelyn's in tragic and irreversible ways.
it immediately transported me to the glory days of old Hollywood and sucked me into the world of the rich and famous that isn't as fabulous as it's chalked up to be. Evelyn Hugo is a character who everybody will feel and root for, envy and pity.
fun fact: popular streaming platform Netflix has announced the adaption of this book into a film.
#3 PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION by EMILY HENRY
this was actually the first book that i read off Bookstagarm, the internet has embraced the wonderfully rich characters that Emily Henry creates in her beach reads. thanks to the witty dialogue and banter between Alex and Poppy, two close friends who met in college this book will engulf you into warm feels of summer love.
every summer no matter what's going on in their lives, they take a vacation together. it's told through both past and present timelines, and in the present, we learn that the friends have experienced fallen out. in order to fix it, poppy invites Alex on a trip to Palm Springs in hopes that they can reconnect. will feelings get in the way?
if you enjoy friends to lover's trope this is definitely a recommendation for you. for me the slow burn and the chemistry between the characters was everything! all the events and banter and love was just so natural that it can't be helped but be hooked to this book
i might have finished reading this in a week or maybe less, this book is definitely worth messing up your sleep schedule for.
#4 THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS by Ali Hazelwood
the ultimate rom-com that tackles my favorite trope Grumpy meets sunshine is a shelf keeper. pure slow burning gold with lots of chemistry and a beautifully written romantic comedy with a heroine you will instantly fall in love with.
for all the "women in stem" the book did serve a justice. there were times when i had to pick up my phone and search the meaning od particular word because i am obviously not fluent in stem. .
I have to say this couple wins the best grumpy meets sunshine couple. smart, witty dialogue and diverse cast of likeable secondary characters is a delight for romance lovers. without any doubt you will absolutely fall in love with Adam's and Olive's relationship.
this book has everything to offer, a fake dating trope and steamy relationship with age gap romance! how can i not include this in the list.
and that's a wrap up for my list of favorite books recommended by Instagram.

TALK TO ME, SISTER: TRIXIE MATTEL AS A POP SOCIAL LINGUIST
Alan Lechusza
In an era where banned books are up 30-40% nationwide overall (1,477 instances of banned books affecting 874 titles, PEN America 2023), the importance of contemporary cultural language – its use, dialectic, and multimedia reference – becomes evident. Pop cultural language bridges the growing divide between academia and the modern lingua franca. In this age where print media is being swept under the rug, the performative linguistic acrobatics of drag queen extraordinaire Trixie Mattel bring to life the living articulations of contemporary pop language. Through her expressions, videos, music, and drag queen identity – dragxploitation – Trixie Mattel challenges the status quo of formal language through her performance expression of linguistic pop cultural slang. Sociolinguists argue, through their academic works, for the compartmentalization of pop culture. As a counterpoint, Trixie Mattel provides a parfait d' experience on how to flip the script, manipulate, reframe, and perform the contemporary canon of social linguistic terms.
Trixie Mattel is the drag queen name of Brian Michael Firkus. Trixie Mattel has a flourishing career as a singer, actor, and highly regarded drag queen personality. After winning RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars (season 3), Trixie Mattel gave American pop culture a dramatic inoculation into the current bloodline of the modern social fabric. Trixie Mattel thrives beyond the margins of post-modernism and firmly grasps the assumed representations of sex, gender, and power. According to Robert H. Fiske, pop culture language has historically focused on "the active process of generating and circulating meanings and pleasures within a social system" (Fiske 2011). Through the outlandish exposure of self – in this case, the identity of a drag queen, a dragxploitation – Trixie Mattel forces the circulating meanings and pleasures of pop vernaculars to be rescripted through the performative lens of queer and drag culture. The lexicon of pop culture thrives upon stability for its survival. To begin to understand the depth and breadth of the expressive arts of Trixie Mattel, it becomes necessary to indulge in the glamorous delicacy of queer politics. No longer can a blind eye be turned away from Trixie Mattel's active social dialectic statements. Pop culture is, as Fiske states, "Witnessing a turning point" (Fiske 2011). Trixie Mattel ruptures the epistemology sociolinguists have used to define pop culture. Her caricature persona uncovers institutional fears that straddle, cross over, and rupture socio-political borders. Highbrow linguistic academics find themselves at a loss for words to address, define, and deal with the glaring limelight of Trixie Mattel. Exit, stage right for standard English literature, and enter center stage, the discourse of Gen X, Y, and Z.

Girl’s Life magazine cites the comic character Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), who states that “[t]here is no normal. There’s just us and what we do with what we’ve been given… And if what you’ve been given isn’t like what the people around you have been given, do the world a favor and make the most of sharing everything that’s uniquely you with the rest of us.” (Roberts 2022) Trixie Mattel is the embodiment of this statement in more than the proverbial nutshell.
A recent conference held by the Sociolinguistics of Pop Culture (March 30-31, 2023) states, “Pop culture… in its diverse manifestations, is a ubiquitous phenomenon where the linguistic sign interacts with other modes of communication.” Trixie Mattel herself is a “diverse manifestation,” an “ubiquitous phenomenon,” and a living “linguistic sign” that not only “interacts with other nodes of communication,” she talks to – or, rather, yells at! - historical standards of scripting the self, forcing the gazing audience to directly and without apology contend with identity signifiers in an ambivalent space outlined and colored by her glamorous lipstick.
Kian Bakhtiari states that "[a]nti-social algorithms, [t]he abundance of [digital and media] information creates a poverty of attention. Finite time makes attention the most valuable commodity in the world… Social media is no longer a social experience; we have migrated into personal entertainment bubbles. There’s no shared space for public discourse and healthy disagreement. The outcome is deep divisions within democratic societies… [there’s] no room for collective memory because, unlike traditional media, we are not all experiencing the same thing at the same time" (2023).
More than a social phenomenon, Trixie Mattel is a dialectic pop icon rewriting the homogenous linguistic platform in a dynamic performative context. The lingua franca of Gen X, Y, and Z provides the necessary sociolinguistic tools to teach those who do not know what they need to know about their own discipline and its interconnectedness with social-cultural expression.
Alan Lechusza
Trixie Mattell’s revolution of dragxploitation is not a negative view of queer or drag culture. Rather, dragxploitation is the dynamic epicenter of drag culture that re-positions previous cultural norms. Dragxploitation is a constructed expressive reality that embodies a positive light, accurate articulation of how performing identity touches grass (read: grounds the attention of the moment) by reframing contemporary slang and pop vernacular. It’s giving (read: just great or an awesome vibe) to realize how Trixie Mattel has broken through the firm socio-political wall, smashing politically correct ideology and drawing attention to the currency of queer and drag culture. Trixie Mattel scripts an era (read: modern era) through her performative representations and updates definitions of previous unspoken cultures - drag, queer - and the sexualization of the body politic. There’s no denying that Trixie Mattel slays (read: takes advantage of a situation and restates by one’s own definitions) pop culture assumptions of gender. She provides a counter to the American culture eye of queer politics and further slays even the broadest incorporation of drag reality, all with those whipping eyelashes.
Trixie Mattel is not one who fell off (read: left out of the public view), resides as a gatekeeper (read: functions in the control of the knowledge and reference of culture), or does a bad take (read: presents an issue or reference that is assumed to be inconsistent with standard cultural norms) in producing a positive – and quite loud – reference of queer and drag culture and identity. She flips the script on being private, not secret (read: one who is secure being alone while displaying references of themselves in a voyeuristic manner). Embracing the exclusive norms of a patriarchal social society, Trixie Mattel plunges her style into this cultural pool, not being secret nor private, but rather being upfront, direct, serious, and firm about who she is, what she states, and what she presents. Inverting assumed masculine signifiers, Trixie Mattel resituates contemporary pop culture into a situationship (read: an uncomfortable in-between zone where the references are not certain of their time-honored positions). These current sociolinguistic Gen X, Y, and Z terms are not the lone epistemologies of youthful discourse. Trixie Mattel exemplifies the pulse of these phrases and how they each talk back to structured language. Trixie Mattel is someone who is rizz (read: has great charisma… super engaging… [with a superstar] knack for charming others). “Slang… [is understood as] words or phrases that have a cultural definition that is different from the literal definition.” (Shorelight 2023) Current sociolinguists remain wedded to historical, literal definitions of words and phrases. Through academic re-reading and forced rhetorical re-structuring, sociolinguists make a bad take (read: miss the mark or understanding of a point) when it comes to modern slang. “[S]lang changes constantly… where the meaning of certain word combinations is… different from their literal meaning.” (Shorelight 2023) This is the necessity of grasping the vast character traits and dynamic array of Trixie Mattel, as exemplified through her drag queen identity. Trixie Mattell’s works ensure that Iykyk (read: If You Know, You Know) and if you Dkwydk (read: Don’t Know What You Don’t Know). There’s no literary middle ground within Trixie Mattell’s performance expose. Though she may appear to be just another outlandish drag queen, it’s through her work, representation, and dragxploitation that Trixie Mattel captures the core relevance of what modern sociolinguists have been trying to do with their understanding of slang vernacular. By reviewing any image or work by Trixie Mattel, it’s obvious how she eloquently points to a necessary discourse, the need for updated knowledge, and direct open attention to embrace her extravagant glorified persona, regardless of the words she does or does not speak. Trixie Mattel disturbs and dismantles the American pop lexicon one hip twist and blown kiss at a time. “Ya feel me?”

Ever found yourself squinting at your teen’s text messages like you’re deciphering ancient hieroglyphics? Same. One minute they’re telling you something is “mid,” the next they’re “aura farming,” and suddenly you’re spiraling, wondering exactly when you became so … not with-it. Teen slang has always been its own wild little ecosystem, but today’s Gen Z and Gen Alpha wordplay is evolving at warp speed, thanks to the internet’s hyper-powered influence. If you need proof, look no further than this gem we dug up from the SheKnows archives — a roundup of teen slang from 2018 which, these days, practically reads like an ancient manuscript (“Whatever you do, don’t go sliding into your teen’s DM. Bible, that’s a cringy AF way to try to figure out WTF your kid is talking about”). … LOL TikTok trends, meme culture, gaming lingo, and group chat inside jokes all collide to create a slang stew that’s equal parts hilarious and head-scratching. And while it might feel like these kids are just inventing words to keep us on our toes (or out of the loop entirely), this language actually says a lot about how they connect, express themselves, and shape culture. This glossary isn’t meant to make you cool (that ship sailed when you said “cool” unironically). But it will help you decode your teen’s cryptic comments, avoid embarrassing missteps (nobody says “cringy” or “sus” any more!), and maybe even share a chuckle with your kid instead of getting the dreaded side-eye. Bookmark it, revisit it, refresh it. Like teen slang itself, this list is a living, breathing thing that we’ll be updating regularly — because we’re here to keep you (okay, and ourselves) up to speed … or at least slightly less confused. Kevin Image Credit: SheKnows What does “Kevin” mean? The use of “Kevin” is attributed to TikToker @druskidrinker, in a video that gained more than 2 million views in the span of a week. Kevin basically means anything bad; as an example, the video’s original creator said, “Yo bro this food is Kevin asf.” Buns Image Credit: SheKnows What does “buns” mean? “Buns” is a slang term meaning something low quality or unimpressive — much like “mid” or “ass.” Alternately, we’re also hearing “cheeks” — as in, “You missed that easy shot?! You’re cheeks at basketball.” Rizz Image Credit: SheKnows What does “rizz” mean? Oxford Dictionary’s 2023 Word of the Year is still going strong! It first appeared around 2021 and was popularized by YouTuber Kai Cenat. Rizz is said to come from the word “charisma” and basically means exactly that: if someone has rizz, they’re charming. To “rizz someone up” means to flirt. Slop Image Credit: SheKnows What does “slop” mean? You know how we use the word “spam” to refer to low-quality or junk emails? Well, “slop” is basically the same thing, only with a broader definition. If something is sloppily or hastily produced or has poor quality, it can be called slop — anything from AI generated content to fast fashion. Cracked Image Credit: SheKnows What does “cracked” mean? It might sound like something faulty — but if you’re “cracked,” it means to be really good at something. “Bro, I’m cracked at Fortnite!” Sweat Image Credit: SheKnows What does “sweat” mean? Originating with the gaming world, a “sweat” is a person who plays so well, so fiercely, and so competitively that they don’t even have fun with the game any more; they’re obsessed with winning, and that’s it. Lock In Image Credit: SheKnows What does “lock in” mean? In today’s slang, “lock in”, or to be locked in, means focusing intensely on something: “I’ve got a big test coming up, so I better lock in and study.” Gurt/Gurting Image Credit: SheKnows What does “gurt” mean? We have an in-depth explainer on this one: read it here! “Gurt” or “gurting” is arguably one of the most confusing slang terms used today (at least for us oldsters!), but in a nutshell, “gurt” comes from the viral “Gurt: Yo” meme — wherein someone says “yogurt,” and a character named Gurt responds “Yo” in greeting. It morphed into an entirely separate meaning thanks to an April 2025 TikTok video, in which creator @jdawg.157 defines gurt and gurting as “When you do something that’s very smart but also very dangerous.” Six Seven Image Credit: SheKnows What does six seven mean? Whether you spell it six seven or 6-7, you have to pronounce it “six sevennnnn.” (See another in-depth explainer here!) Especially popular with the tween set, it originated with the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla. To add to the allure, videos of NBA player LaMelo Ball set to “Doot Doot” went viral because Ball is, you guessed it, 6’7″. It’s one of those tween and teen slang phrases that really means nothing, but apparently sounds so cool it needs to be said on repeat. Cooked Image Credit: SheKnows What does “cooked” mean? If someone is in big trouble, they’re “cooked” — “My parents are gonna kill me when they find out about this F. I’m so cooked.” BUT! This is not to be confused with cooking, which means someone is doing something very well. Aura Image Credit: SheKnows What does “aura” mean? “Aura” is basically a measure of how cool a person is. If they have a lot of aura, they’re effortlessly cool — they don’t have to try too hard, their aura level is just naturally high. What the Helly Image Credit: SheKnows What does “what the helly” mean? Can’t say “what the hell” in school? Then just say “what the helly” or “what the hellyante!” It originated with Rob49’s song “WTHelly” but has woven its way into teen slang as an exclamation or interjection. Unc Image Credit: SheKnows What does “Unc” mean? An oldie but goodie that’s made a comeback in Gen Alpha and Gen Z slang, “Unc” simply refers to a man who is seen as old, acting old, or out of touch with current trends. It is, of course, short for “uncle.” Steezy/Steez Image Credit: SheKnows What does “steez” (or “steeze”) mean? Speaking of oldies-but-goodies, this one goes all the way back to the ’80s – but has been polished up for use in tween and teen slang! Kind of like aura, “steez” (which is said to come from a combination of the words “style” and “ease”) indicates someone who is confident and effortlessly stylish. If you admire someone’s style, you might refer to them as “steezy.” Big Back Image Credit: SheKnows What does “big back” mean? “Big back” is basically just a new way to call someone fat — but it’s also sometimes used in a self-deprecating and jokey way, like “I’m putting extra whipped cream on my pie ’cause I’m a big back.” Chopped Image Credit: SheKnows What does “chopped” mean? Nope — this one has nothing to do with cooking. In teenage slang, “chopped” means ugly. As in, “I don’t know why anybody thinks he’s cute … he’s lowkey chopped, bro.” Crash Out Image Credit: SheKnows What does “crash out” mean? If someone says they’re going to “crash out,” you should probably run for cover — because to crash out means to have an angry fit: “Bro, if I get another detention I’m finna crash out.” Huzz Image Credit: SheKnows What does “huzz” mean? Back in the day, women were referred to in a derogatory manner as “hoes.” These days, it’s morphed into “huzz” — which is used in a general sense to refer to a group of girls: “Man, I tripped in the school parking lot right in front of the huzz.” Glaze/Glazing Image Credit: SheKnows What does “glazing” mean? To “glaze” someone basically means that you’re excessively praising or overhyping them, usually to an annoying degree. SYBAU Image Credit: SheKnows What does “SYBAU” mean? There’s no nice way to say it … SYBAU is an acronym for “shut your b**** a** up.” Aura Farming Image Credit: SheKnows What does “aura farming” mean? Now you know what “aura” means, but what does it mean if you’re “aura farming?” You can see an in-depth explainer here — but basically, aura farming is doing things to gain more aura: i.e., trying to make yourself look cool. The point, though, is to look like you’re not even trying. Sigma Image Credit: SheKnows What does “sigma” mean? Well technically, sigma is the 18th letter of the Greek alphabet. But in teen slang, it means something totally different: someone who is well-liked, independent, and successful. Chuzz Image Credit: SheKnows What does “chuzz” mean? This one’s a slang-word combo: “chopped” and “huzz” come together to create “chuzz” … i.e., ugly hoes. And if you hear “gruzz”? Well, that’s old hoes. Selling Image Credit: SheKnows What does “selling” mean? If you’re “selling” at something, it means you aren’t doing a very good job. Often it’s used in the context of someone who is playing poorly to the detriment of the team — perhaps even on purpose. Packed Image Credit: SheKnows What does “packed” mean? For this one, we have to look at the YouTuber PACKGOD, who’s known for his relentless roasting of other content creators. To get “packed” is to be flooded with rapid-fire insults so quickly that you can’t even get a word in edgewise. Fine Shyt Image Credit: SheKnows What does “fine shyt” mean? If someone is considered exceptionally attractive, they’re “fine shyt.” It’s pretty obvious what the last word is based on, but the amended spelling and pronunciation is twofold: one, so it won’t get snagged by filters on TikTok and other social media platforms, and two, so kids don’t get in trouble for saying it in school or other public locations. Chat Image Credit: SheKnows What does “chat” mean? “Chat” doesn’t mean what it used to — it’s no longer used to refer to a casual conversation. Rather, it’s used to refer to a person or group of people. It started when gaming livestreamers would address the people who had tuned into their livestream — i.e., the chat. Now, it’s basically the equivalent of “you guys” … like someone is addressing a fake audience. But you can also call a single person chat: “You’ve got a test coming up, so lock in, chat.” Gyatt Image Credit: SheKnows What does “gyatt” mean? It seems fitting to end this teen slang gallery with a pertinent word — so bringing up the rear, we have “gyatt” … which means a nice, shapely behind. Source link

Top 5 Reasons Claims Management Software Is a Must-Have
Claim processing can be slow and error-prone, but it does not have to be. Claims management software speeds up operations, reduces errors, and improves customer satisfaction by automating processes and optimizing workflows.
Not only does this software make claims easier for customers, but it also simplifies work for companies. Customers today expect quick and hassle-free service, and claims software delivers just that by keeping everything organized and accurate.
With so many benefits, it’s no surprise that this software is transforming. But what exactly makes it a must-have?
Keep reading to find out!
Faster and Smoother Claims Processing
Healthcare claims management software creates smart processes that speed up claims processing and improve overall system efficiency. By automating the main tasks, this software reduces the burden on employees and allows insurance companies to incorporate the best practices directly. And if something changes, upgrading the system is simple, ensuring companies stay responsive.
Automation also handles tedious, repetitive duties, allowing people to focus on more vital aspects of their professions. This results in a speedier and more efficient claims process.
Making Customer Service Better
A recent study found that Millennials and Gen Z expect excellent customer service. They want to discuss their claims using the most convenient device—email, chat, text, or phone.
And when they want to speak with a person, they don’t want to wait on hold while a bot figures things out. They prefer short and easy talks. Good communication should be bidirectional, and automation can help with this. Claims processing software ensures that nothing is lost in the process.
Imagine a system in which data is easily entered by claims specialists and sent between systems instantaneously. Employees won’t waste time retyping responses, and customers won’t have to repeatedly provide the same information.
All the necessary information is available when a claim reaches underwriting. This translates into quicker settlements, quicker options, and above all—happy customers.
Making Compliance and Reporting Easy
Audits can be real headaches for insurance companies. However, with automation software, they become quite simple. The software generates accurate reports and makes the entire process go smoothly. No more stressing about yearly audits!
Insurance companies have to follow many rules set by the government to defend people. Healthcare claims management software assists by identifying claims that require more attention to comply with the law.
In a nutshell, this software reduces the stress associated with compliance and makes things much easier.
Making Sense of Data with Smart Insights
AI and advanced analytics might sound complicated, but they are really strong tools that help businesses better understand their data. With claims software, users can create detailed reports to address their most pressing issues.
Predictive analytics takes things one step further. It compiles risk data from many sources and integrates it with internal data. This provides risk managers with a comprehensive view of possible risks, allowing them to make better decisions faster and with greater accuracy than manual decision-making.
This software also identifies gaps in older systems and suggests solutions to improve workflows. It also gives important figures and reports to help teams track progress and improve their processes over time.
Making Fewer Claims and Getting Claims Right
People make mistakes, and it is normal. But when it comes to managing claims, those mistakes can slow down and cause frustration. Without automation, small errors might cause payment delays and more work.
Claims software helps by automatically verifying information. It collects data from many sources both inside and outside the firm, ensuring that everything lines up. This enables insurance teams to make the right decisions.
The software also detects faults early. If something appears to be wrong, it raises a red signal, allowing a human to intervene and analyze it. For example, it can double-check names, addresses, and claim amounts to ensure they all match. There is no confusion or missing information because all employees have access to the same data.
Unlike humans, the claims software does not become tired or distracted. This means that the data remains correct, making the overall process smoother and faster.
Final Words
Claims management software is the future. It simplifies operations, enhances accuracy, and keeps everything running smoothly. Stay ahead of the competition—upgrade today and make claims processing simple!

W9 Cultural Materialism
Today we talked about cultural materialism, which includes; infrastructure (fundamentals), structure (order in the society), superstructure (ideology and symbolism), and that infrastructure is the base of culture and environment that we have today.
In the class activity, my friends and I selected the vending machine as the one infrastructure to investigate and analyse. It offers convenience by providing cold drinks without troubling customers to go stores, as well as technological development as the ‘cashless payment option’. Its selection-payment-receivement order also shows a sense of structure.
Let's talk about one of our most essential and significant infrastructure, the Internet. Not only that it is a source of information or inspiration, it was a huge innovation in the design industry, widening up the field by expanding areas to apply design.
As it was mentioned in class, education during the pandemic was heavily influenced by the internet. Although my learning environment was quite restricted, I became more alert to the digital spaces in our daily lives. As a person who enjoys in-person design, I was influenced to experience a new type of the artistic field.
Furthermore, as a Gen Z, who is heavily influenced by the internet, I really appreciate what the internet offers, the information, fast updates, the connections to others and the world. At the same time I was also educated repeatedly about the danger of misuse of our internet, which I agree that we barely have online privacy these days. Since we live in a world with such a close connection with the internet, everyone should be wise with their usage.

Life in a Nutshell: Technology Around Me
Bonniejour! Welcome to another entry of my life in a nutshell. Today's topic is all about how technology surrounds my life. Now that we are in the 21st century, technology is everywhere-as in literally everywhere. From the moment we open our eyes, we are greeted by a world of technology. From the small gadgets we use to socialize, to the gigantic innovations that transport us to school and other creations that elevate our quality of life. We are surrounded by technological creations whether we like it or not. It is so essential to all of us to the point that living without it would be hard. In this blog, we will deep dive on how I use technology in my life.

| Information. Education. Accessibility.
As a college student, technology plays a huge part in my school affairs, especially now that online classes are still being implemented. My gadgets and Wi-Fi have served as my “rock” because they have been there for me every single step of my academic journey. Gadgets are painted in a bad light since those with less restraint most often get addicted to using them. However, using gadgets with purpose rather than for just entertainment has been my main objective since the start of my exposure to such products of technology. Creating schedules, searching the web for information, downloading educational materials, and other tasks related to academics everyday resulted in me improving in my studies. I spend my time doing assignments, writing essays, and answering modules.
In the past, searching and verifying information was a taxing affair and took up hours of a person’s time since information was only available in either libraries or in self-owned books. Now, information can be accessed in seconds, and can be verified in minutes as long as you cross-reference what you search and pick trusted websites as sources. During the afternoons, I sit down in front of my laptop and get to work while I am at the comfort of my room instead of needing to go outside and scour the library for books in search of the vital information I need to complete my tasks, all because of the benefits technology provides me.
| Tweet. Like. Share.
I cannot deny that I too utilize technology for social media. As part of my identity as a Gen Z, I also frequent the social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram. I frequently use technology and the social media apps it comes with as a way to connect with other people and express what I feel. Personally, I am fond of using TikTok because there are many dance challenges that I enjoy doing during my free time. Also, the glimpses of life I see from other people’s TikToks such as the TikToks of other medical students or even the TikToks of accomplished medical practitioners give me inspiration. Looking at those kinds of TikToks during my free time fuels my drive in continuing my studies and achieving my goal of becoming a doctor in the future.

| Transportation. Innovation. Convenience.
Everyday living has become less of a chore since technology has improved by leaps and bounds compared to what it was in the past. Each decade, technology has presented to us brand new innovations that keep on improving the quality of life everyone of us is experiencing. My daily commute is composed of train rides, tricycles, and bus stops. Modern vehicles created and powered by technological brilliance. It is an essential part of my daily living. Without these products of technology, without their contribution, without the convenience these things bring to me, then even my studying here in CEU would be impossible.

Well that’s basically it for today’s entry. This is how technology intervene in my life. It might seem that this generation of ours could not live without technology especially internet. However, this is already the life that we are used to — it is how we learn, share, and connect.
