Pregnant lions again. Today's victim: Sabu.

When he finds out he's PISSED at you. You'll have to deal with a minimum two hour rant about how much this messes up his plans with the Shishigumi, how he's too old to be popping out a kid, how this will make the younger members respect him less, etc. Trying to remind him that he was a VERY willing participant in everything that happened between the two of you will only make him yell at you harder.

Once he calms down from that initial anger, he's actually pretty chill though. Grumpy, but in the way an old cat is grumpy- he just sleeps around and eats what's offered then goes back to sleep. Sometimes he wants cuddles, sometimes he'll hiss at you for annoying him, but doesn't try to get into much trouble except for occasionally wanting a sip or two of alcohol. Man has been doing gang work for too long, a break is actually good for him.

However my headcanon for Sabu is that he has a lot of nasty injuries from all the years in the Shishigumi, because he was pretty reckless in his youth, so he needs extra care. Especially with his advanced maternal age- being pregnant at 44 is no joke. He needs a lot of doctor visits and rest and love. You'll probably have the other lions constantly coming to visit because they're worried about him, no matter how much Sabu tells them to stop pestering him.

Also, as the oldest member I imagine he's probably the most traditional and the most superstitious of the lions, so he believes a lot of old wives tales about pregnancy. Tries to predict the baby's gender with his cravings (sweets for a girl, sour or salty for a boy), doesn't want to put his hands over his head (it might make the umbilical cord to strangle the baby), doesn't want to have sex because it might be dangerous for the baby, thinks a full moon will induce birth... You'll probably have to confront him on some of them, but you'll have a hard time changing his mind lol.

I love how this is probably the most he’s ever talked to you, just to yell at you about y’all’s kid.

I imagine the rest of the Shishigumi trying so hard not to act like weird doting aunties to the literal eldest, most trained, most badass lion they know. Like no one wants to baby him but also they’re all absolutely babying and worrying about him behind his back. I also headcanon that he really likes bread and snacks on it instead of eating real meals sometimes, so now his cravings are off the charts. His mouth’s watering at chocolate cakes, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, and nobody's gonna deny “the baby’s needs.”

I think those doctor visits really expose how nervous he is too. You’ll catch his foot tapping, jaw clenched, then out of nowhere he’s holding your hand tighter than usual. He doesn’t outright say anything at first, but you know. He’s more prone to expressing himself because he doesn’t want the baby to soak up that stress. And if it was me fathering this child, best believe I’m leaning into the superstitions with him. Red thread on the wrist, ankle, and belly to protect him and the baby from evil eye and envy. Salt by the doors, indoor chimes. He’s staying inside for 40 days and 40 nights after the birth, nobody’s coming in. You cannot reason tradition out of someone who genuinely believes it keeps their child safe. There should be a compromise for his peace of mind. That baby’s getting ushered into the world with every protection.

Az won’t take Elain on his super secret dangerous spying missions. Idc how much sleuthing she does with the twins, he would never put her in harm’s way. He doesn’t think she can handle “dangerous” things. Plus, he already gets caught enough as it is (so much for being spymaster 🙄). He has no ties outside of the Night Court. I assume their story would take place in Velaris and that just sounds so insanely boring to me.

At least with Lucien, she’d travel. He can take her on emissary trips. She can go with him to the BoE manor, where they can discuss Koschei with Vassa. I think Lucien would let her do her own thing, in fear of being controlling. I think he would be supportive of her scrying (if it was something she felt the need to do) and other things the IC deemed too “dangerous” for her (but let Nesta do w/o a second thought for some reason??? 🤔).

Elain has been in Velaris for how long now and they all STILL treat her like she’s a child. We saw her claws come out a bit in ACOSF and I really, truly do believe some time away from Velaris and the IC will allow her to bloom fully.

For the love of the Cauldron and all things Made, Sarah, give us something other than the Night Court. ANYTHING. I’d take the pocket of air Rhys hides the Winter Solstice presents in over Velaris atp 😭
