yknow what's funny? this has genuinely been a lot of what i've thought about wrt early relationship!! :D shimeji have a feature where you can pick 'em up and toss 'em around, and i keep imagining picking him up like a feral kitten to gently move him away from whatever i'm working on.

and then, as time passes and he sees me in a new light, his reactions become a bit more... awkwardly friendly??? (s/i: "scary........") and later just purely affectionate. even though it isn't exactly the same thing as physical contact, it's a point of connection so he doesn't waste any opportunity for interaction fjndfkjgn
