I had a dream where Knack was somehow pregnant...

This is the second dream I've had with the premise. I'm taking some creative liberties because I had a lot of dreams and my sibling's kitty wouldn't let me write it down straight away.

We were in my grandma's house - which in real life had slowly become a dilapidated shack until it flooded. Here, it resembled how it did in my childhood and teen years.

I remember sitting on a beige recliner pushed to the middle of the room, while Lucas sat opposite to me on the couch. It was night, so the sliding glass door behind him brought no light. Light was delivered from a variety of small sources - the main kitchen light filtered in from the walkway and some peer-over gaps to my left. Grandma's desk at my right housed a lamp whose light allowed me to see Lucas's face. His legs were extended and crossed at his ankles, so I was the only one with my shoes on the ancient brown carpet.

I don't remember if Lucas was telling me about the situation right then, or if we were just chilling, and I was remembering something he had told me earlier, while we were at the Doctor's campus.

He said: Knack doesn't usually eat. Because he just doesn't need to. The most he'll put in his mouth are occasional sweets - hard candies he can crunch up and then brush away later. But lately he started putting real food on his plate at dinner. And he actually eats it! It just disappears. Or, something. Mainly he's been eating a lot of rocks. And some tools have gone missing. He won't tell me anything about it. He's been acting weird. I don't know how to explain it...

Knack was looking around in my grandma's pantry, and if this was a conversation, he would have heard everything. But even though he was six feet tall, he said nothing.

Lucas also said that Knack is typically very small whenever he doesn't have to do anything, but he hasn't been that small in several weeks.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Nowadays not really any, lmao, but BACK IN THE DAY I was obviously primarily an ASOIAF writer, but I've also written for Harry Potter, Law and Order SVU, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Taken, and American Horror Story. And I loooooove talking about those fandoms that I write less frequently about so feel free if anyone had any questions, I would lap that shit right up.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I was/am good at responding when a fic is newly posted but I'm not very good at it now, which is a shame on me because I still read and love every comment and I think people who take the time to leave comments on fics that are years old are super super rad. Usually I see it and get all giddy and then forget to respond and then feel weird responding much later, which is silly of me. I don't get a ton of comments anymore but I'm going to try and be better about answering because I do appreciate them!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Definitely Measures, that one is just an angst fest in general. Or hmm, A Myth of Devotion is a close second.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Aahahaha this is just making me realize how death is involved in like...all of my fics? So maybe Rivers and Roads since Ned and Cat get to be together at the end, despite the DEATH AND WAR around them? Or maybe that my lips would build a castle which finds Jon and Sansa together in Winterfell despite all the DEATH AND WAR THAT WAS AROUND THEM. Or maybe Wedding Bell Blues which is a fun modern AU despite the fact that Lyanna is unhappy in it. What can I say, I enjoy my angst.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not a lot, although I did just recently get someone angry that I tagged Ned/Ashara in 'Wedding Bell Blues', and honestly they weren't completely wrong but they were so obnoxious about it that the tag is staying there out of spite. And of course I used to get the requisite Catelyn hate but even that was pretty few and far between. My stuff is usually what it says on the tin and AO3 is a little bit more self selecting than other sites of the past.

9. Do you write smut?

Awwwww yis especially SMUT WITH FEELINGS.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, someone took 'Measures' and basically rewrote it word-for-word as a Downton Abbey fic and someone recognized it as my work (...actually was it you, @meduseld??) and brought it to my attention. Lmao also back when I was on a Desperate Housewives livejournal (BACK IN THE DAYS) I had a couple of ESL writers take parts of my fics and use them in theirs and the mod of the LJ community got SO MAD at me when I was like "...hey please don't do that!" But the incident with 'Measures' was definitely the most blatant.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, and I think it's very cool! I would never attempt to translate it back though lol. But it is very touching to me that someone would like my work enough to want to take the time to translate it so others can enjoy it. I'm always fine with it as long as proper credit is given. I have also had a podfic done on a Lyanna comment fic and that was also extremely cool! The person who did that had a lovely reading voice. =)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not a published fic but I've done roleplay-y writing with a few friends before which was always fun!

14. All time favorite ship?

I don't know if I've penned more words, thought more thoughts, spent more time for any other ship more than Ned/Cat. <3 A close second to Elliot/Olivia in Law and Order SVU for goddamn longevity though. Still dragging me along, twenty years later.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sadly I doubt I'll ever finish 'these are hard times for dreamers' because back in 2019 I only had the vaguest idea of where I wanted to go next and that has only gotten worse with time. I have also had a Lynesse fic half-written on my computer for probably like...five years at this point, BUT I think that's more likely to get finished at SOME point just because it is already around 4k words. But who knows WHEN.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character work, especially internal thoughts, setting a mood/scene, etc.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes, getting from point A to point B to point C, especially concisely versus needing ten thousand words. I also think my dialogue is hit or miss, especially in a longer back-and-forth conversation.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I'll reference it if need be but usually try and avoid because I don't speak any other language fluently and don't want to make any foolish mistakes.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Lmao SAILOR MOON (Geocities 5ever) and also I wrote some Pokemon stuff. I'm not even a little sorry.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I think it's 'we're men of snow (we melt one day)' which makes it especially gratifying that it is my most popular. There are still bits I would clean up if I were rewriting it but on the whole I'm so pleased with how it turned out and it was also really nice that it was a gift for a friend for FandomAid (@catelyngrant) who gave me pretty free reign to do whatever I wanted. So I'm glad I was able to deliver something that I'm very happy with because she deserves it! I am also very partial to my Lysa Heroine Big Bang fic, 'The Girl in the Mirror'. I love writing Lysa and this was the most complete thing I ever wrote about her, and I loved getting to flesh out her backstory. Much as it is super fun to play in the AU sandbox, it is also a ton of fun to examine a part of canon that is left uncovered in the source material. hmm i dont read as many fics anymore so idk abt telltale signs in terms of word choice but i rmr this huge uh.. crashout in DA fandom recently that someone was writing a long fic like from the amount of word count per chapter they did and for how long they have written it, it could be told it was ai? also iirc bc the author never really bothered to hide nor deny the claims. like two 300k fic fics written within a month or so while being an adult with a full time job and kids etc also bc i think when u would feed ai the same prompt / summary they were using for the fic, it would give off smt oddly similar to their fic. that and some lines and bits wouldnt add up as well as grammar mistakes / weird sentences structures that made no sense (speaking from my own experience as someone who doesnt speak eng as first lang, others like me, esp when our english wasnt as good, will make mistakes/or sentence structures that are similar bc those usually mimic our own language etc yk like an organized chaos if you will) IDK HOW ELSE TO EXPLAIN hope this helps somewhat!!1 but from what ive seen on ao3 they usually add to the work tags that it is ai generated. @voidcat

That is imo the biggest indicator (weird time economy (?) ahaha), sometimes it's just really hmm and I think said it in the tags that's about the only thing that made me block someone bc didn't trust they were genuinely putting out long texts at that speed and rate.

That said I also don't read much fanfiction except my friends or people I can actually follow thru the process (as in enjoying their wips and the "okay what if this idea or that idea" moments) anymore, and never really went into AO3 :| but several ppl said that yeah, tagging stuff as AI assisted or generated is like a common thing now? Which is honestly crazy and gives me secondhand embarrassment. And that ppl have the nerve to argue over it is just beyond me.

Honest used to think AI wrote gibberish and inconsistent bs until I had to read essays fully written by it and the only thing I could think was damn it does a good job if you just leaf thru it? A verbose person could come up with this. Obviously there are cases on which it's glaring bc say facts don't match, research lacks depth or there's no personal touch to it or in fics here I've seen ppl getting a characters eye color wrong 💀💀💀 but yeahhhh....

Hmm... well, I really could write a whole essay about this but for now I'll just outline my top 3 reasons.

It's taboo

In our modern and (mostly) sex-positive society, there are very little things that are truly taboo anymore. For the most part, two consenting adults are free to do whatever they want in the bedroom, and the worst that happens is people might go "ew, that's weird" or silently judge them... UNLESS those two individuals happen to be related. Then it's forbidden, it's disgusting, depraved. Hell, it's illegal in most cases!

The forbidden nature of incest is precisely what draws me to it and honestly, I think it's human nature. When someone tells you you can't do something, it becomes that much more attractive.

2. Character study

....okay I realize that saying "I'm here for the characterization" feels a little like the fandom equivalent of "I read Playboy for the articles" but I swear it's true!

It's really interesting to me to analyze the characters, and ask myself what drives them to the point where they commit incest and how do they justify it to themselves.

I shit you not, some of the best portrayals of both Ozai AND Azula are courtesy of incest fics. The fact that they're villains surely has something to do with this, as they are a convenient source of conflict and you can just include one or both in a fic without giving them any real depth. Even the source material is kind of guilty of this, we don't really see much from Azula or Ozai's point of view, and neither one got their "day in the limelight" so to speak the way other characters did... which is a shame but hey, that means endless potential for shippers and fic writers.

Naturally, I have many, many takes regarding both Ozai and Azula's eagerness to hop into bed with a direct blood relative but again for the sake of brevity, I'll just say this: Ozai is a controlling, entitled narcissist looking to cement his hold over Azula, who is so desperate for his love and approval that she'll take anything she can get. Despite the front they put on, they are also two deeply insecure individuals with the emotional maturity of toilet paper, secretly convinced they are too repulsive for normal romantic relationships.

3. It's hot as fuck

I'm not going to beat around the bush here, this just straight up bigs my dick. Floats my boat. Scratches the itch. However you want to put it. I feel like more of us just need to be honest with ourselves here and just admit that our favorite ships are fap material.

Now obviously this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but Ozai/Azula is sexy to me for many reasons. There's the basic stuff like age gap, power imbalance.

But it's also just the idea of an experienced older man showing a young virgin girl how amazing sex is.

The size difference! How easily Ozai can just throw Azula around like a rag doll, pin her down, and do anything he wants with her.

Azula's praise kink in full force, being a total simp for her Daddy as he showers her with compliments. Telling her how beautiful she is, how well she takes his cock, calling her a good girl and patting her head as she deep throats him. Like she'd go crazy for that and no one can tell me otherwise.

Ozai getting off on the fact that he's got the one girl in the entire world that he isn't supposed to have. He'd be all over that. I'm sure he thinks he's god's gift to women so it's a huge ego boost to know he's irresistible despite the natural repulsion toward incest and social norms.

Honestly when I make a friend with someone, RPing with them becomes SO much more fun and easier! My problem is that I SUCK at talking! I can take a LONG time to reply to a message! It's not that I hate you or don't wanna talk, I just... don't do well with talking. I have social phobia and just talking is SUCH a struggle with me. Some people I can talk to with ease! Some days it's easier to talk with someone! But talking is such a big problem with me. A lot of the time I choke up and struggle. It's something I try working on, but I don't seem to get anywhere.. But I HAVE been doing a few things that I am proud of myself for when it comes to talking.

Finally , what are your favourite genres of RP ?: Hmm, I honestly love fluff and soft stuff.. I also love slice of life.. I also love threads that have a lot of character development.. I honestly love all kinds of genres. The only ones I don't really like are angst just for the sake of angst (meaning there's no reason for it.. there's no development.. you just want angst to be angsty.. There's no reason for it and it evolves into nothing else..) I also don't really like fighting threads.. but that's cuz a LOT of folks don't know how to do a fighting thread and I have so many instances where the other person godmods / auto hits etc...

I think I've made the changes I needed. Yuriko’s canon story didn't work in the beginning as well as it should have but now I think I'm on the right track.

How do you describe writing / rp to others?

I mostly talk about writing with other writers so they know how it is. Of course, I sometimes need to talk about it with other people as well but I find it tiring to try to explain things... So, I mostly stay on a rather general level and don't mention details. I might say that I write fantasy and romance and that's it.

Is there any fandom you regret exploring?

No, not really. I don’t miss all the fandoms but every phase has been interesting in its own way.

Yes, for the Pirates of the Caribbean and Diabolik Lovers as well.
