How would scc!reader’s phone wallpaper, phone case, Home Screen look like? Also what would she have n her phone, app wise? Like does she use social media or no
lock screen / wallpaper:
a candid photo of her kids laughing in the backyard—blurry and sun-drenched, but she loves it
it used to be a photo of her and rafe from their honeymoon, but after the second baby it switched to full mom-mode
sometimes it’s a pic her daughter took of her cuddling the baby while watching tv
apps she has:
pinterest (her most-used app by far—baby clothes inspo, meal planning, birthday party mood boards)
cozi or floret calendar app to organize the house schedule and meal plans
spotify playlists titled like “soft mornings,” “kitchen dancing w my daughter,” “crying but cute”
notes app FULL of to-do lists, shopping lists, random quotes, reminders like “refill stretch mark lotion” or “make cookies for school on friday”
amazon—dangerous levels of activity. tabs open for diapers, candles, and expensive toddler furniture
whole foods and trader joe’s apps (she checks them like people check the stock market)
no instagram on her home screen—she has it, but she deletes it often when she gets in her sad girly slumps
facebook (just for the mom groups and school updates)
tiktok (private account. only follows cottagecore girls, recipe moms, and hauls from target)
baby tracker app she never deleted even though the baby is almost four
weather app she checks every morning like an old lady
she has like 4 alarms for “school pickup,” “laundry switch,” “don’t forget to thaw the chicken,” and “rafe dentist appt”
and her widgets are just calendars, a little pink notepad, and a photo slideshow of her family.
she’s soft. domestic. offline most days.
her phone is less about looking cool and more about feeling safe, organized, and surrounded by love.

I'm sure many of you are already aware of this, but in case I have any newer tumblr users, pet bill donation scams are very common on this site. If someone DMs or sends you an ask asking you to reblog some sort of donation post for a sick/injured pet, it is most likely a scam.
Below the cut, I have included tips to spotting a scam, and why I believe the post by 507-on-queue is a scam. @kyra45 runs an excellent tumblr scam awareness blog, and has more information and tips here about spotting pet scams. I have archived the scam post in question on my side blog here.
Here's some ways to spot these scams:
Age of the blog - most scam blogs are a week old or younger, they are often under a day old
Similar urls being used for multiple blogs - scam blogs are typically blocked/deleted rapidly, and the OP makes a new account with almost the same name
The blog bio/pfp are not unique
You can only access the dashboard view of the blog so the post archive cannot be accessed (for example, my dashboard view is this, but you can also visit my webpage view and see my 9 years of post history via /archive lol)
The blog has never interacted with you before
The blog follows you and immediately sends a DM/ask
The DM/ask is overly polite and guilt trips (they often ask you to reply privately to reduce digital footprint)
Images of pets can be found via reverse image search
OP's story is inconsistent or unrealistic
The Paypal link does not match the supposed country OP lives in
Most recently, a scam post has been going around about a sphynx cat named Draven. This has been done using multiple urls, including:
meer-lion (deactivated)
507-on-queue (deactivated)
507onqueue (deactivated)
507-onqueue (current as of Jan 13th, 2024)
Here's how this blog meets our scam watch criteria:
The current blog (507-onqueue) is less than a day old (19 hours at the time of this post). The oldest post:
As listed above, OP uses multiple, similar URLs.
The bio of 507-onqueue is taken almost directly from another user (said user). Due to the same bio being used in previous scams, I suspect this is the same or related person to kappa-tundra/kappatundra (about this scam).
Scam blog:
Copied blog:
Only dashboard view is available.
The blog follows and immediately DMs/sends and ask. From my account:
The ask from the account is very polite, guilt trips, and asks me to answer to the post privately. The goal of being so polite is to win your trust and lower your defenses. This isn't the worst guilt trip I've been in a scam (that goes to the child support scam from several years ago). By asking me to reply privately, they're attempting to reduce their digital footprint (making them harder to google) and disguise how much they are spamming asks.
The information in that post was taken from a private Facebook account (source). I found the Facebook account in question and confirmed that the information was taken from there. I do not want to share the page because I view that as a further violation of the Facebook OP's privacy. For transparency, the images of Draven are not on Facebook OP's page any longer, but there are several other identifiable pieces of information that make it more than likely that the claims of her information being stolen are true.
The ask is inconsistent itself with the name of the cat (Draven vs Indie). This is also nearly identical to another scam ask from user captbridges. This user was using a real GoFundMe for a sick cat to scam.
The medical paperwork in OP's post is for a veterinary hospital in Wisconsin. However, OP's PayPal is based in the Philippines. The country.x= part of the url indicate the country of origin of the account; PH is the Philippines. The local.x= part of the url shows that the link was localized to the United States (making the donation currency USD). (PayPal's information page about country codes).
Stay safe out there and remain vigilant, everyone. If you don't already know them, try to pick up some boolean operators to refine your google searches when checking for scams. The tumblr search function sucks, so this is your best bet of finding information about scams like these online.
#meer-lion#507-on-queue#507-onqueue#507onqueue#scam alert#scam#You all can feel free to reblog this if you want#I normally make posts like this when a scam comes my way#But I haven't actually seen one in a while lol

ive seen you talk about FIRE/mr money moustache and i am interested in how you balance that with your politics. i ask because i am also interested in FIRE but struggle with the idea of saving 2mil+ to retire early when people need money NOW to survive. not just broadly but even loved ones and community members in my immediate vicinity. i dont mean this in an EXPLAIN YOURSELF sort of way, just so many of the FIRE etc people i find writing about it dont really address this aspect and its something i struggle with internally myself.
Sure, I don't mind speaking about this at all. I wish I more frequently had the occasion to because it's a major special interest of mine.
First, I'm not interested in the saving 2 million dollars (if that were even feasible) school of financial independence/ retire early. I'm more of an adherent to the r/LeanFire, r/BaristaFire type approach of maintaining a consistently very frugal standard of living that is sustainable for me, on a relatively smaller savings, and pursuing a life of relatively little consumption.
I also think that MMM, despite his many flaws, is broadly accurate in stating that when people continuing working all their lives, they also create more ecological devastation by consuming a whole of a hell lot more resources on convenience and burning more fuel, while chasing after a steadily rising living standard set by the norms of their profession. By taking myself out of the workforce sooner rather than later, I will be contributing less to climate change and waste because I'll need fewer convenience meals, fewer car rides, fewer flights, fewer hotel rooms, fewer fancy professional clothes, and so on and so on.
I also spend a lot of time on the Socially Conscious Mustachians group on Facebook, which focuses on investing one's savings in ways that are less ethically problematic. The easy mode version of this is simply putting one's money into index funds that exclude oil companies, gun manufacturers, etc. But honestly, today, with interest rates being as high as they are? It's pretty easy to just sock one's money into a CD or a bond, collect the cool 5.4% interest, and avoid having to contribute to the stock market directly at all. There are even high-yield savings accounts at credit unions that pay out about that much interest these days, and those entities typically do not invest in oil pipelines, BDS targets, or anything all that objectionable.
As for the hoading money while others are in need piece: Well. yeah. that's a difficult ethical challenge that we all must consider. how much can i hold onto for my own wellbeing in the spirit of "putting on one's oxygen mask first" without it being wealth hoarding? how much should i give to other people when i see that they are in need --someone could easily make the case that I have the moral obligation to give away what i have to my very last cent, and I couldn't really argue with them on that. maybe a person should do that. but i'm not going to do it. and of course the effective altruism freakos would counter that if i invest my money and grow it now, i will have more to give to others in the long run than if i cash out now.
realistically, i won't be able to continue working for much longer without having another health episode or worse. i will not qualify for disability benefits because high maskers who have had careers usually do not. and social security's coffers will be entirely drained long before i reach the age to qualify for it. if i enter my non-working years without any resources, someone else will have to worry about me staying housed and medicated and fed.
i tend to think of my retire early stash as my own little private disability benefits fund that will allow me to live safely and will hopefully allow me to take care of other people that i love as we age, and that will give me the freedom from having to do any morally compromising capitalist labor ever again, and only put my energies towards causes that either fulfill me or benefit others.
but it's still rooted in a highly individualistic capitalist system, this holding onto money under my own name and investing it thing. im sure a lot of people would choose instead to sock all of their money into some kind of cooperatively owned communist farm or something, and you know, some day down the line i would love to put money toward a big multi unit building that lots of people i am in community with could live in, with no financial obligations for them. but i dont have anywhere near that kind of scratch. as hannibal buress (that landlord piece of shit) said, "i don't have fuck you money, i have strongly worded email money." and you know, being able to write a strongly worded email to people who would otherwise be exploiting me into another huge burnout does feel good.
thinking that one day i might not work anymore is one of the only things that keeps me going. i am always on the razor's edge of not functioning, i dont think people really realize that, how could they, the mask is there to prevent them seeing it. im beyond privileged to even get to CONSIDER the dream of getting by on my savings for however long human society continues to exist. and it sure would be better if i could extend that kind of freedom and peace of mind to others. my life still feels very precarious and it always has and ive had to be stable for the sake of others for a long time, ive had to be financially responsible for others for a long time. i cling to the idea of FI/RE because it offers me a way to finally break down and be weak. but something more community oriented and interdependent would sure as fuck be better. in the meantime i guess im saving for something like that i could trust enough to give myself over to.
i also have a really strong fetishistic desire to be someone's completely brainwashed sex pet for the entire rest of my life, and having an early retirement account would really help me facilitate that

"My name is Sahar Shehab. I am 14 years old from Gaza .
I ask you for urgent help in evacuating my family from Gaza to a safe place.
We need to help our friends all over the world.
We are 8 people, my father fahed (38 years), my mother reem (32 years), my sister dana (13 years), mona (9 years), malak (5 years), my brother yehya (1.5 years), and my grand mother mona (60 years).
We were displaced from our home in Gaza to the southern regions under inhumane conditions.
The occupation bombed my father's house and the gym he owned in the Gaza area.
I am asking you for help and asking you to donate to evacuate my family from Gaza.
Your help and donations will give us hope throughout the dark times we live.
The money we collect will be allocated to cover the expensive travel expenses of my family , provide them with temporary shelter, and provide the necessary needs for my family during this difficult period.
please stand by my side in case of war I know that you will stand by my side and that you are my second family.
Please stand with me to evacuate my family from Gaza. Because there is no safe place and because the house is completely destroyed. we have been living in a tent since then.
I hope you will support my family in evacuating Gaza .
To date, my family has been displaced ten times, enduring unimaginable hardships along the way. Now, we are in Rafah, our last refuge, living in inhumane conditions. The constant threat of an invasion and attack on Rafah looms over them, putting our lives at even greater risk.
The price of leaving Gaza is high and far beyond my father means.
I have initiated this fundraising campaign to urgently gather funds to help my family leave Gaza as soon as possible. The total cost to secure their departure is $40,000. This amount includes $5,000 per person for departure fees, which must be paid to an Egyptian side facilitating their safe passage Upon reaching their destination, they will require financial support to cover basic living expenses, including accommodation, food, transportation, and healthcare .
Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will have a profound impact on my family and provide them with the opportunity to rebuild their lives free from the constant threat of violence and persecution.
Every dollar brings them one step closer to security, security and the opportunity for a brighter future.
I thank you from deeply for your support and understanding in these difficult moments.
Private is open to you at any time.

The only prominent post going around about the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016 is my own, and is unfortunately cursed to the fate of receiving reblogs of an inaccurate version. So, 8 years later, I'm doing the right thing and making a new post to properly honor the victims and their families.

Will it gain the traction it needs? Probably not. But I'm not as... distant, about today, as I have been over the years. Because let's face it... This hits close to home for me. I said this in my original posting, too:
As someone who lives relatively near Orlando, I remember this day so vividly and I still feel a lot of pain for the victims even five years later.
I remember biting back tears in my living room because I wasn't out of the closet, and couldn't let my family know just how much this hurt me. I remember breaking down that night while scrolling the headlines, watching as the number of fatalities kept climbing. I remember staring at the button on Facebook asking me if I was safe.
And to this day, even with those involved and responsible gone... I still do not feel safe as a queer man in this state or in this country.
More importantly, though, it's important to highlight the community impacted by it, and the way onePULSE and its founder (Barbara Poma), the city of Orlando, and the State of Florida have exploited and continue to exploit the deaths of these individuals.
Information from here on out will be taken from the Community Coalition Agaisnt a Pulse Museum's official website, which can be found at the following link: [ LINK ]
The Community Coalition Against a Pulse Museum (CCAPM) is a group of surviving victims, family members of victims, activists, and scholars who have banded together to fight against the onePULSE Foundation's privatized memorial and museum complex. Our position is that money raised in the name of the mass shooting should go to the continued care of survivors. A public memorial park that does not seek to capitalize on the mass shooting in any way is the only option for a just memorial.
In addition, we seek justice for mass shooting victims by exposing the history and scope of unpermitted renovations and code violations at Pulse, which impaired the escape and rescue of shooting victims. We believe that Pulse owners Rosario Poma and Barbara Poma should be held accountable for these violations, rather than continuing to profit from a tragedy that was exacerbated by their illegal business decisions. We also want to see the City of Orlando held accountable for their continued failure to enforce the law and bring the business into compliance.
So what are the prominent issues?
WE ARE AGAINST COMMODIFYING MASS MURDER
The onePULSE Foundation has placed a gift shop feet away from where 49 people were murdered on the site of the interim memorial. We firmly renounce putting any price tag on the murder of our loved ones. The proposed museum is also slated to have a gift shop and a price of admission.
WE ARE AGAINST TURNING A PUBLIC TRAGEDY INTO PRIVATE PROFITS
Pulse nightclub owner, Barbara Poma, refused to sell the property to the City of Orlando for a public memorial. Instead, she created the onePULSE Foundation and has taken an executive salary in her self-made position as CEO. Perks have also included national recognition, celebrity, political connections, and undeserved accolades as an LGBTQ+ ally.
WE ARE AGAINST TURNING A MASS SHOOTING INTO A TOURIST ATTRACTION
The onePULSE Foundation has received a $10 MILLION tourism development tax grant from Orange County for the building of a museum. The tax application shows how the proposed memorial/museum complex has been intended to increase tourism during the off-season. The corporate Board of Trustees also reflects the local tourism industry.
WE SUPPORT INVESTING IN THE CONTINUED CARE OF SURVIVORS
Money raised in the name of the mass shooting at Pulse is going to multi-million dollar buildings rather than the continued care of the people who were directly affected. Available services and organizations have not provided adequate care to survivors and the onePULSE Foundation has not stepped in to fill any gaps; focusing instead on cultural and "educational" programs, while ignoring the ongoing needs of survivors.
WE CALL OUT A CHANGING MISSION
For years, the onePULSE Foundation raised funds for community grants for victims' families and survivors. In 2019, "community grants" were removed from the organization's mission. According to the released 2018 990s, only $1k was spent on community grants. People have donated money to the organization thinking that they were helping survivors.
WE ACKNOWLEDGE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
onePULSE Foundation CEO Barbara Poma is currently being sued by survivors and victims' families as part of a security negligence lawsuit. This lawsuit also alleges the illegal transfer of the Pulse nightclub property which was transferred via quit claim deed in the months after the shooting to two other LLCs owned by Barbara and Rosario Poma. Funds raised by the non-profit are being invested in the Pulse property that the Poma's still own.
As of 2024, this case is still pending, with the latest service list being posted on the docket as of June 11. The case number is publicly available (2018-CA-006102-O) and is searchable via the Orange County Clerk of Courts Record Search.
WE AFFIRM A PUBLIC MEMORIAL PARK IS STILL POSSIBLE
Public memorial parks have been the overwhelming response to mass shootings around the country, including Aurora, Columbine, Las Vegas, and Newtown. Most have been built by volunteers, with no executive salaries. The OnePULSE Foundation's proposed museum attraction seeks to unnecessarily turn the shooting into a spectacle and requires merchandising the tragedy. Mass murder is not for sale!
WE CONTINUE TO EXPOSE UNPERMITTED RENOVATIONS AND CODE VIOLATIONS
Public records affirm that Pulse Nightclub was a death trap due to its unpermitted renovations and code violations. Documents show that these issues affected the both the escape and rescue of Pulse survivors on June 12, 2016. We continue to collect, document, and uncover these issues since the City of Orlando has still not released all relevant records to the public.
Survivors of the incident, as well as their families and those who have faced similar tragedy, have also signed an open letter [ LINK ] calling attention to these issues, provided documented evidence of the above claims [ LINK ], and have also been running a petition since 2019 to call attention to the matter:
Of course, it is important to note that the individuals mentioned (Barbara Poma, the Orlando City Council, etc.) are not the only ones involved in making this state an unsafe place for its queer community.
As noted in my original posting as well, the unsafe nature of this state runs through its government. The fight for our rights, our recognition, and our safety still continues. Here are some facts from the original post (dated June 12, 2021):
In June 2021, the Governor of Florida vetoed an "item-lined budget bill" - that legally provides mental health, counseling, and compensation directly towards victims of the June 2016 Pulse nightclub Orlando shooting.
While they cannot be enforced, sodomy laws still exist in Florida to this day. Every year, we are still criminalized by a technicality.
In many places, same-sex domestic partnerships are still not granted. It is only viable in approximately nine counties, thirty cities, and one town.
It took until 2016 for same-sex couples to be granted the same parental rights during in vitro fertilization and surrogacy as opposite-sex couples. Before then, the non-biological mother and father was not the child's legal parent nor guardian.
The state's "hate crime law" only accounts for sexual orientation, and does not protect victims who were attacked for their gender identity.
Anti-discrimination laws for sexual orientation and gender identity are not state-wide nor equally applicable within each county/town.
On June 1, 2021, Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis signed a bill to exclude transgender women from participating in sports designated for female students. This bill passed because of a last-minute legislative "procedural maneuver". The HRC is currently establishing a campaign to try and stop the law from going into effect (called "nullification") on midnight July 1.
Gay-panic and Trans-panic are still viable legal defenses, resulting in these abhorrent hate crimes to be decreased from murder to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Conversion therapy against minors is not banned state-wide, and is still legal within many areas of the state. In fact, in some areas, a ban on the practice is deemed "unenforceable".
And that is just the tip of the iceberg, because if you've been active in your advocacy for the community (or at the very least, following me for a decent period of time)... Then you know just how unsafe Florida has become. You know how, even under the Biden administration, people like Governor Ron DeSantis have gone unchallenged in their writing and enforcement of vile legislation. You know how this legislation has begun creeping its way up to the top, to the federal level, and remained unchallenged the whole way up.
Here are some more "fun facts" about just how much we must fight against in the wake of this tragedy:
States like Florida have eliminated 80% of all trans adult care (SB 254), adults can be thrown in jail for using the bathroom of their gender identity (SB 1674), and trans people with correct gender markers on their drivers licenses can be charged with fraud (Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles memo).
The State of Florida has had several travel advisories issued against it by local LGBTQ+ organizations (e.g., Equality Florida) and national organizations (e.g., Human Rights Campaign).
Likewise, many social media laws targeting "adult content and pornography" (HB 3) include sneaky, vague language that will very much target the existence of queer folk using the internet in this state.
More states within the United States are explicitly passing anti-trans legislation than not, and moreso now than ever [ source; dated June 4th ].
The time for relying on those above us is over. We MUST kill the plague of individualism and build community. If we don't support one another, nobody will. No amount of pinkwashing, placation, or sanitation will change that.
We are here. We are queer. We will never forget, and we cannot allow ourselves to.

fucking kill me now
Mere moments after his swearing in Monday, President Donald Trump made a proclamation to attendees of his inauguration: “It shall henceforth be the policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.” Trump then signed an executive order disparaging what the White House called “gender ideology” and claiming that a person’s sex is “not changeable and [is] grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
Trump’s order, which was widely seen as an unscientific attempt to roll back the rights of transgender and gender-expansive people, also instructs federal agencies “to require that government-issued identification documents, including passports, visas, and Global Entry cards, accurately reflect the holder’s sex,” rather than their gender identity. It was one of 78 orders signed on Monday, some of which were part of Trump’s attempts to end Biden-era policies that “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
While the executive order only affects federal policy, the broader implications are vast. It’s only been a decade since Facebook’s “real name” policy made it hard for people to hold accounts under names different than the ones on their IDs. Facebook has since amended these guidelines, but as companies like Meta clear the way for users to claim trans people have “mental illness,” digital safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people seem to be dwindling. Except in one arena: dating apps.
Following Trump’s executive order, Match Group and Feeld both told WIRED they have no intention of reversing course when it comes to the gender identity options offered on their respective platforms.
“We are not making changes to our apps,” says a spokesperson for Match Group, which owns OkCupid, Tinder, Hinge, and several other dating platforms.
It remains to be seen how other tech companies will respond to the executive order. Some, like Meta, seemed to be making overtures to the incoming Trump administration before this week. Earlier this month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would end its third-party fact-checking program and transition to a Community Notes model, à la X.
Zuckerberg peddled the sudden reversal as a bid to scale up free speech across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads and allow for more political content. “We’re going to simplify our content policies and get rid of a bunch of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are just out of touch with mainstream discourse,” Zuckerberg said in a video accompanying the announcement.
Should online life become even less inclusive for LGBTQ+ people during Trump’s term, apps like OkCupid, Feeld, and Hinge could become digital havens, places to connect. “In a time when many of our civil rights are under threat, dating apps have the ability to serve as crucial spaces for gender, racial, and sexual inclusivity,” says Apryl Williams, a professor of communication and digital studies at the University of Michigan.
Over a decade ago, in 2014, OkCupid expanded its gender options for users to include identifications such as transgender, pangender, intersex, agender, and genderqueer. It was among the first dating apps to capture an accurate picture of identity online, and the different ways it was evolving. Currently, Tinder provides an option for “beyond binary” and Hinge allows users to select “nonbinary” on their profiles.
Bumble, which offers 19 gender options for singles, declined to comment on this story.
Feeld is also doubling down on user protections under the Trump administration, CEO Ana Kirova tells WIRED. As societal norms continue to evolve, Kirova wants the app to be a sanctuary for safety and authenticity. “We remain dedicated to nurturing an environment where everyone can be and express themselves authentically, respectfully, and without fear of discrimination, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation,” she says.
This week the Trump administration also began scrubbing the internet of gender identity websites, including the “Change sex identification” page on the Social Security Administration website and the Department of Labor’s page for reporting sexual and gender-based discrimination.
In spite of Gen Z ditching dating apps in favor of IRL hookups, user growth on Feeld has increased 30 percent year-over-year since 2022. In fact, 2024 was a record year for Big Dating, as waves of new users joined despite reports of app fatigue. As more people consider what brings them pleasure and happiness, or simply question the outdated constraints of sexual constructs, Kirova says that Feeld recognizes the inherent fluidity in its members. The app currently has more than 38 sexual and gender orientations to select from.
For Kirova, it’s simple. It’s about growing together, she says, which means making all gender and sexual expressions feel welcomed on Feeld. “Our platform celebrates the ever-evolving human experience,” she says, “and we will continue to build towards a world of openness.” Feeld also plans to host more in-person events in 2025, giving users a place to connect in offline settings.

If you use Facebook, WhatsApp, or Instagram, you might have noticed a new assistant popping up in your search queries or offering information in your feeds. This assistant, Meta AI (still in Beta testing), can appear at the top of your Messenger chat list as it has been integrated across Meta’s platforms.
What’s worse is that Meta AI needs a substantial amount of training data to function effectively. Most of this data comes from your Facebook and Instagram posts. Even if you don’t post content yourself, Meta can still use photos and captions if others publish them. This data usage applies to all publicly shared posts.
Can I Stop Meta from Using My Data for Its AI?
Yes and no, depends on where you live.
You live in the EU + UK:
Today (June 22nd) we still don't know when Meta will launch its AI in Europe, as it has been delayed after complaints by multiple data regulators. But to be safe - if you wish to continue using Instagram or Facebook - you have to opt out of Meta using your data.
How to do that?
Go on this page for Facebook or this page for Instagram and fill out the form. Under 'tell us how this impacts you', write something like: "I wish to exercise my right under data protection law to object to my personal data being processed."
Then you have to confirm your email. And you also get an email if your request has been approved (this happened instantly for me).

Mental Health Month posts from Facebook (because sharing multi year posts suck)
2023
So is it Mental Health Awareness Month? Or could it be Mental Health Acceptance Month? I guess it's a matter of education. But I was inspired by the fact that April is Autism Acceptance Month. I don't know if the sentiment is the same.
* I am out at work as much as I feel comfortable. I lead an internal DEI group and we introduce ourselves each meeting using roles outside of work. I'm a queer person who uses They/She pronouns and I'm a peer with lived mental health experience. My boss and a couple coworkers know I'm a presenter for In Our Own Voice because I invited them to present for June's DEI meeting. But I am NOT comfortable sharing my diagnosis to work (minus my friend) and I can't present myself sadly.
* About this time last year I volunteered to be a 'tech buddy' DBSA is STILL USING ZOOM. This is good for me because the commute home from Belmont after 9pm would be unbearable. Tech Buddies are the zoom host, and help take attendance and manage the speakers queue with raised hands. Going to DBSA let me know I'm not alone in a way I hadn't experienced before.
* My individual gave up her office early on in COVID and is permanently virtual. My group therapist retired in July and I had to say good bye on zoom. His replacement is private pay, but I'm using FSA funds to justify it. I started seeing my Psychiatrist in person only for him to retire 6 months after group did! I'm currently without a prescriber for the 3 time since 2016. Charlestown MGH is overloaded with patients and understaffed. The one difference this time is that I'm stable.
* I'm still running, but I started stressing about it in October, and I think my COVID bout (which was mild) is still impacting my performance. My photo a day streak is STRONG. I even called into a podcast who was doing an episode on "what works for me" because it really does help me get out the house. That and obsessing over step counts.
I enjoy making mental health content during May, but I feel like I'd just be repeating myself this month. Enough has changed from last year to write out this post. If you're still reading I bet you're very aware and I hope you're even accepting at this point.
2022
Mental Health Awareness Month is here again and I'll be posting for the third year.
In a perfect world I could be out on my public twitter. In a perfect world I could disclose online without any fear that come next job hunt, someone in HR will find that and take a pass on me. In a perfect world I could disclose at work even though I don't need any accommodations. It's not a uniform system but I've cobbled together fb, instagram, and my anonymous bipolar twitter account as safe spaces to share. I'm trying to feel less segmented but it's difficult when real world repercussions are a possibility.
Still zooming with NAMI's In Our Own Voice. They're starting to get in person presentations but it's just easier for me logistically to stay virtual. I've zoomed with plenty of places I'd never be able to get to in person.
This time last year I joined DBSA (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance) Boston, a peer led org that hosts support groups. I'm busy Wednesday nights zooming with the "Young" Adults group. A bunch of millennials and gen z folks using their lived experience as shorthand to bond. It's meant a lot to me and I'm walking with team DBSA for this year's NAMI Walk.
Covid still drags on. Last couple of Mays I wrote that I was glad I had Bipolar. And it's still true. My toolbox of coping skills is flush with things I knew, like taking baths with epsom salt, and things I've learned during the pandemic, like how I developed a running habit. My take a photo a day streak inspires me to get outside. And perhaps most importantly I can still see my prescriber, my individual and my group therapists remotely.
So happy Mental Health Awareness month. You're probably very aware at this point.
2021
I’m taking part in Mental Health Awareness Month again. I am still not out on Twitter*. I still cannot publicly disclose my bipolar, or even just 'mental illness' on an account with my full name for fear of personal and professional repercussions. In these kinds of spaces, it is much easier to navigate out as queer than out as bipolar. *This January I started an alternate anonymous twitter account so I can better engage with the neurodivergent, disabled and mental illness communities. (You'd be surprised at how much those overlap)
Before all of this began, I signed up NAMI's In Our Own Voice. You’ve probably heard about it whenever I mentioned the NAMI Walks I’m doing in a few weeks. We started zooming in August and I want to say it was one of the best decisions I made in terms of advocacy and stigma busting. I have presented to different groups, college nursing classes, one of the inpatient units at McLean Hospital, and several groups of Family to Family, the program mom took 15 years ago when I was initially diagnosed.
After over a year of Covid, I'm still GLAD I’m Bipolar. There's a collective mental health flare happening right now. But I have my diagnosis, meds, my therapy, and coping skills. I have a toolbox of things to try when I am stressed out or sliding backwards. And perhaps most importantly I have established relationships with my individual, group and my prescriber. I am so lucky that I've been able to see them remotely.
So happy Mental Health Awareness month. Now you're probably even more aware.
2020
Mental Health Month Post: I realized something: I am not out on Twitter. I can not publicly disclose my bipolar, or even just 'mental illness' for fear of personal and professional repercussions. I am more out in my queerness than in my mental health struggles. How ironic is that? I wish things were different.
When I signed up NAMI's In Our Own Voice, I was hoping to use it as a tool for greater advocacy but also to increase my "outness" as a bipolar person. Even though the training was Presidents Day Weekend, I never thought that a pandemic would put all presentations on hold.
Sure I participate in chronic illness (disability) twitter and will 'flirt' with outing myself. If you read behind the lines, check who I follow and talk to, you may be able to out me. But I talk about my crohns and humira, not lithium, and I leave therapy to my journal on patientslikeme.
But at a time like this I'm actually GLAD I am Bipolar. There's going to be a mental health flare when Covid starts to wind down. But I already have my diagnosis, meds, my therapy, and coping skills. I already have a toolbox of things to try when I am stressed out or sliding backwards. And perhaps most importantly I already have established relationships with my individual, group and my prescriber.
So happy Mental Health Awareness month. Now you're probably more aware.

☎ for kay and scalde!
Send me a ☎ for…
Kay!
Your muse’s contact name in my muse’s phone: 'Kay.'
Your muse’s contact picture in my muse’s phone: A selfie they took together with Lio in the background while his back was turned. They're both making silly faces at him. She will probably never change it.
Your muse’s ringtone in my muse’s phone: She thought it was funny.
Which social media(s) my muse is following yours on (Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Pinterest, etc): Kay definitely gets to follow Nimbra's super secret Crow only fantasy Instagram. She wouldn't have Snapchat on her own phone, but would agree to take pictures with Kay if she had it on hers.
The most recent phone call between our muses, and how long it was: I can see them having one after the party left Jim and the others-- as soon as they found a place to rest, Nimbra was the one to call Kay to chide her a bit about Pearls joining them. It ended up being VERY gentle scolding, though. She would have wanted to hear about Jim and all the catching up Kay was doing with him, too.
The three most recently sent messages from my muse to yours:
[ TXT ] : yeah. we're heading over to the casino in a bit. [ TXT ] : we'll have a heist like this together one day, i'm sure. you could pull it off no problem. [ TXT ] : let me know if you want me to pick you up anything. i'll save it for the next time we meet.
Send me a ☎ for…
Scalde!
Your muse’s contact name in my muse’s phone: 'Scalde'.
Your muse’s contact picture in my muse’s phone: A photo Nimbra took of Scalde and Crow posing together in one of the many hats she made him.
Your muse’s ringtone in my muse’s phone: This probably makes her think of their time on the ship together!
Which social media(s) my muse is following yours on (Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Pinterest, etc): Honestly, I'd love to say Scalde was the one who gave Nimbra the idea to make her private Crow account lmao. So she could keep the collection of his hats all in one place!
The most recent phone call between our muses, and how long it was: Before Arakyne, and it was probably pretty short, just with how the two of them seem to travel. They'd be checking in on one another, making sure they were each safe, and promising to see one another again soon.
The three most recently sent messages from my muse to yours:
[nimbra has sent you a photo]
[ TXT ] : can you believe this. he fell asleep in the hat and sunglasses. he looks so funny.. [ TXT ] : sorry. i'm probably getting annoying with how much i fawn over him when you make things for him, but.. well. [ TXT ] : it just makes me happy that you two get along so well.
She wanted to say 'because you're both so important to me'.. but she got embarrassed and erased it. :3

Scammer Alert: Flipper Zero Sellers
Thanks to lots of media coverage on Flipper Zero being used to do bluetooth spamming of iPhones/Androids/Windows/etc., the Flipper Zero has become a hot commodity. This also means scammers are popping up like mushroom. You will see them in Facebook groups/marketplace, etc. They usually just grab photos of Flipper Zero that others have shared in the past and use it to show that they Flipper Zeros for sale. Some will also say that they bought a Flipper Zero and decided it's not for them and they want to sell it. Below are just some examples of how such posts might look like (I am not claiming these post are scams, I have no way of verifying).

If you post a question in a group asking where to buy Flipper Zero, you will also probably receive a bunch of private messages from "sellers" who offers to sell you a Flipper Zero. Most of them are probably scammers.
Scammers are also creating fake “official” Flipper Zero Facebook or Telegram groups, etc. to make themselves appear more convincing. Also, an old Facebook account is not a good indicator if someone can be trusted, as scammers are known to use hacked Facebook accounts.
Please be very careful about buying from strangers, there are likely a lot more scammers than legit sellers out there. If you want to be safe, just get it from the official store. They will direct you to their authorised distributors for your country. However, if you are in a country that the official store does not currently ship to, your best bet it is to find a trusted friend or family member in a country that the official does support, to help you buy it and send it to you.

I've been seeing so many South Park Tweet videos on TikTok (and by SP Tweets, I mean the characters have Twitter accounts and the videos are slideshows of what they post).
And of my favorite things I've seen is the callback to the Facebook episode (You Have 0 Friends I think) and Stan just has this god awful luck where he makes his account and literally everyone wants to/actually follow(s) him. Like, he hasn't had his account up for even a few minutes and he's already in the millions in terms of followers 😭😭😭
My son is verified right away while very few, if any, of his friends/family/classmates are, and he is so done. It is Facebook all over again.
And it is now my HC that he can't make any social media account without it happening at some point. He can't even make a private account because people keep finding it, how the hell do they find it?!?! He doesn't even tell anyone he's made a private account until he thinks it's safe from all possible follow requests.

Important to make clear. Meta has actively changed their policy into end-to-end encryption, so no one outside of the recipient and sender can access your texts messages. Which means that while the case (Aug. 2022) referenced above from Facebook is real, they changed their policy in 2023. This doesn’t mean that we should be any less aware about the companies that we use and their data collection, I just wanted to update the facts on the post.
Please make sure to double check information we find on all media platforms. I had originally reblogged before checking the info, but I got curious about the details and figured out that this is no longer applicable to the same degree.
Other info I think are important to highlight after I read up.
1. X does NOT make it easy to mass delete messages. Conversations are very likely stuck on the platform, whom we know does not respect data collection ethics. I would refrain from having any intimate or important conversations on the platform.
2. Meta, aka Facebook and Instagram (and technically WhatsApp but they’re not included in this policy), automatically uses your texts, posts, photos, and captions as a means to develop their AI models. You can turn this off. This article explains how.
3. Meta’s, particularly Instagram’s (I know right, you always hear Facebook as the bad one), third-party data sharing has been abhorrent. And it’s not so strange that the easiest articles to find are now a couple years old. Their policies haven’t radically changed - the news coverage on it has. Make sure to keep an eye out. I can’t list to you what their third-party policy is, because after fifteen minutes, I can’t find a clear list. This is not a new problem, the company likes to separate information into many smaller articles that are scattered across different terms and links.
4. TikTok has some very complicated policy descriptors. You do not need to be a user for your data to be collected, you just have to open a link. They collect data from private messaging. They may collect contact lists from your relationship with other apps (the private policy listing says the following: “if you choose to sign-up or log-in to the Platform using a third-party service such as such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Google, or link your TikTok account to a third-party service.”) They do not a describe a requirement for you to agree to this collection from other parties.
5. TikTok may also use your user content to help identify you. According to their policy, they “may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information as defined under U.S. laws, such as faceprints and voiceprints, from your User Content.” In other words, they may track and collect information for things such as vocal and facial recognition.
I hope you learned something with me. Make sure to double check information when you find these things, and don’t be afraid to double check me! Let’s all just stay safe 💪
PSA: never discuss private affairs in your DMs, especially contraception and abortion. Social media moguls will absolutely sell you out to the government. There are already cases of people being charged based on evidence in their DMs.

How Social Media Can Affect Your Texas Personal Injury Claim

Many people use social media every day to share photos, updates, or funny videos. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok have become part of everyday life. But if you are filing a personal injury claim in Texas, what you post online can be used against you. Even something small, like a smiling photo or a comment about how you feel, might hurt your case. It’s important to understand how your social media activity could impact the money you receive for your injuries. Once a claim is filed, every post matters.
What you say can change everything
If you are injured and say online that you are feeling great, insurance companies might use those words to say you are not really hurt. Even if you were trying to sound positive, those words can be twisted. In a personal injury claim, the way you describe your pain, your recovery, and your daily life is very important. Your doctor’s notes and your own words are part of the evidence. When your social media posts tell a different story than your claim, the other side may argue that you are not telling the truth. That can make a judge or jury think twice before giving you the money you need to recover.
Pictures tell a strong story
Photos are powerful. If you post a picture of yourself at a party, hiking, or lifting your child, the other side may say you are not injured at all. Even if the picture was taken before the accident or only shows a short moment, it can still be misunderstood. That one photo can give the wrong idea. It is hard to explain what is really going on in your life when a photo seems to say something else. Insurance lawyers look for these posts because they know how to use them in court. That’s why you should be careful with every image you share.
Other people’s posts can hurt your case too
Sometimes, it’s not even your own post that causes trouble. Friends or family may tag you in pictures or talk about what you’re doing. If someone says you were dancing or working, even as a joke, it might end up in front of the judge. When you are tagged in something, it becomes easier for others to find and see. That includes lawyers who are searching for reasons to pay you less. You can’t control everything others say online, but you can ask them not to tag you or talk about your case. A simple request can make a big difference.
Privacy settings are not enough
Many people think that if their social media account is private, then nobody can see it. That’s not always true. Even with the highest privacy settings, things can get shared, copied, or taken through legal steps called discovery. In Texas, the other side can ask the court to make you hand over certain posts or messages. If those posts are found to be important to your case, a judge may allow them. So, even if you think your posts are hidden, they may still come out in court. The safest choice is to not post at all during your case.
Deleting posts may not help and can make things worse
Some people try to delete posts once they realize they might be a problem. But deleting can backfire. If the court finds out you removed something on purpose, it might seem like you were trying to hide the truth. In Texas, this is called spoliation. Judges do not like it when someone changes or destroys evidence. You might lose the chance to win your case or get less money because of it. Instead of deleting, it is better to stop posting completely and talk to your lawyer. They can guide you on the right steps.
Direct messages and comments count too
Private messages and comments may seem safe, but they are not always hidden. If you write to a friend that you’re “doing great” or “back at work,” those words can still be used against you. The other side may ask for access to your messages or take screenshots if they see something helpful to their case. Even jokes or lighthearted replies can be misunderstood. When you’re in a personal injury case, it’s best to stay away from writing anything about your health, your accident, or how you’re feeling—even in private.
What the other side is looking for
Lawyers and insurance adjusters often search social media for clues. They may look for signs that you are working when you say you are not. They may search for evidence that your injuries are not as bad as you claim. They may even watch for updates on trips, hobbies, or new jobs. Their goal is simple—to lower the amount of money they have to pay. Everything you post becomes a chance for them to argue against your claim. That is why they will dig deep into your social media to find anything they can use.
Steps you can take to protect your case
One of the most important steps you can take after an injury is to stop using social media. Tell your friends and family to avoid tagging you or talking about your case online. Change your privacy settings, but do not rely on them completely. Do not delete anything without first talking to your lawyer. Avoid answering questions or sharing updates about your injuries, your job, or your legal claim. If you have questions about what is okay to post, ask your legal team before doing anything. Your words and pictures are powerful. Use them carefully.
You are always being watched online
It’s easy to think that nobody is paying attention to what you post. But once you are involved in a personal injury claim, that changes. The other side will look for reasons to say you are not telling the full truth. They may follow your public posts or use fake accounts to look at your content. Even if your posts feel harmless, they can be taken out of context. A picture of you smiling can be used to say you are not in pain. A message about your plans can be used to question your recovery. Everything you say or do online can affect your case.
Always think before you share
The internet never forgets. Once something is posted, it can be saved, shared, and used in ways you may not expect. That’s why it’s important to pause before you post anything. Ask yourself if it could be misunderstood. Ask yourself if it matches your legal claim. If the answer is no or you’re not sure, don’t post it. Being careful can help protect your case and your future. Once a claim is in place, your words and actions matter more than ever.
Why your online image matters
The way you appear online becomes part of your story. When you are trying to prove that an accident hurt you, your online image can help or hurt your case. If your social media shows a life that looks normal and happy, it may be harder to convince others that you are suffering. That’s not fair, but it happens. Judges and juries are people too. What they see online can shape how they feel about your case. Keeping your social media quiet and focused can help you tell the right story.
Your case deserves the right attention
Going through a personal injury claim is not easy. You may be dealing with pain, stress, and bills. You deserve to be treated fairly and given the support you need. But social media can work against you if you are not careful. What feels like a small post can have a big impact. That’s why it’s so important to be smart about what you share. Your focus should be on healing and getting justice, not on defending a post or a picture.
Get help from someone who understands the law
If you or someone you love has been hurt in Texas, you do not have to face the legal system alone. Your case matters, and you should have a team that knows how to protect it from every angle, including the online world. At Chavez Law Firm, we help people who are going through hard times because of an injury. We understand what it takes to build a strong case and keep it safe from online risks. Why You Might Need to Hire a Hacker — And How to Do It Safely
In today’s increasingly digital world, cybersecurity threats are evolving at a rapid pace. Whether you're a business owner trying to protect sensitive client information or an individual concerned about your digital privacy, the idea of hiring a hacker might seem extreme—but in some cases, it’s actually a proactive and necessary measure.
At Intelligentsense, we understand the line between ethical hacking and malicious intent. Our services are designed to help individuals and organizations understand their vulnerabilities, recover lost data, or conduct deep-dive digital investigations. If you’ve ever considered whether it’s possible—or even advisable—to hire a hacker, this article will help clear the fog.
Why Would Someone Hire a Hacker?
When people hear the word “hacker,” they often think of cybercriminals in hoodies breaking into bank accounts. But not all hackers are bad actors. There’s a growing demand for ethical or “white-hat” hackers who use their skills to help, not harm.
Here are some legitimate reasons why you might want to hire a hacker:
Recovering Lost Data: Accidentally deleted important emails, files, or even entire folders? Ethical hackers can often retrieve what seems lost.
Digital Security Audits: Whether for a company or a personal device, hackers can test systems for weaknesses and advise on fixes before a real attack occurs.
Cellphone Monitoring and Recovery: If you suspect your cellphone has been compromised, or you’ve been a victim of spyware, you can hire a hacker for cellphone diagnostics and cleanup.
Social Media Account Recovery: Lost access to an Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp account? Ethical hackers can help regain control and secure your profiles.
Catch a Cyberstalker or Online Scammer: From romantic scams to phishing attempts, hackers with investigative skills can help trace the origin of threats.
The Rise in Demand to Hire a Hacker for Cellphone Security
In recent years, more individuals are looking to hire a hacker for cellphone protection or investigation. Why? Because our phones have become the central hubs of our lives—containing everything from private conversations to banking information. Unfortunately, they are also prime targets for spyware, malicious apps, and social engineering attacks.
Some situations where people look for hacking services related to cellphones include:
Monitoring phone activity for digital safety (e.g., parents or companies ensuring no security breach).
Tracing and removing malicious spyware.
Restoring deleted text messages, media files, or call logs for legal or personal reasons.
Identifying if their phone is being tracked or remotely accessed.
When you hire a hacker for cellphone support through a reputable service like Intelligentsense, you’re tapping into advanced tools and expertise that most individuals don’t have access to.
What to Look for When Hiring a Hacker
Not all hacking services are created equal. The wrong choice can do more harm than good—especially if you're lured by shady websites or unverified individuals. Here's what to keep in mind:
Legitimacy: Always work with registered and verifiable cybersecurity firms. Avoid underground forums or anonymous offers.
Transparency: Ethical hackers will always outline what’s possible within legal boundaries and what isn’t.
Specialization: Whether you need to hire a hacker for cellphone or for corporate network testing, make sure the provider has a relevant portfolio.
Data Privacy: The last thing you want is to compromise your own data. Choose a firm that prioritizes confidentiality.
At Intelligentsense, we are built on trust, experience, and a commitment to ethical practices. We help you solve digital problems without stepping outside the law.
Legal Considerations When You Hire a Hacker
This is important: hacking, in most contexts, is illegal if done without consent or authorization. However, ethical hacking—performed under a contractual agreement—is fully legal and often encouraged in cybersecurity.
For example:
A business may hire a hacker to perform a penetration test on its systems.
An individual may authorize an investigation into their own cellphone activity.
Law firms or private investigators may bring in digital experts for evidence recovery in legal disputes.
Never engage in hacking someone else’s data or devices without their consent. If you're unsure, consult a legal professional or reach out to a trusted agency like Intelligentsense before proceeding.
Why Choose Intelligentsense?
Our team combines years of experience in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, and digital forensics. Whether you’re a small business owner, a parent, or someone looking for peace of mind, we offer tailored solutions that are legal, ethical, and effective.
We’re not just a service—you can think of Intelligentsense as your digital security partner.

Ethics in Social Media
Blog Post 3
Ethics in Social Media
The current state of social media ethics: what trends are happening in the industry?
In a 2023 article in the Global Media Journal, Dr. Bharat Dhiman posits privacy and bullying as the most pressing ethical issues on social medial. Most social media platforms require users to share personal information to create an account, this information has the potential to become part of a data breach causing harm to the individual. Harassment, or cyber bullying, can also lead to harm of an individual as it's easy to hide behind a computer screen and completely dismantle someone’s life.
What are two current cases related to social media ethics?
Lindke v. Freed
This case revolved around First Amendment rights and free speech and focused on when an official should be treated as a government actor opposed to a private actor. Lindke, after having his comments deleted and then being blocked from Freed’s account sued claiming his First Amendments rights were violated. The court determined that Freed was acting as an individual and not as an agent on behalf of the government and therefore Lindke’s rights were not violated. This is significant because content creators and influencers who have an influential presence on social media run the risk of losing ownership of their personal accounts if they are viewed as acting on behalf of their employer. (Social Media for Strategic Communication, Ch. 2, P. 39)
Elonis v. United States
This case revolved around posting threats online, specifically to. The case focused on what a “true threat” meant, and did it have to be objective or subjective and whether or not it impacted his First Amendment rights. Elonis was originally convicted and sentenced to 44 months in prison, he appealed repeatedly all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court where his conviction was reversed. This is significant because even though Elonis was not some big name in the social media game, his free speech on social media really was not free. He ultimately won his case but was convicted first over posts on Facebook that were seen as a threat. What you post or how you say it can get you in a lot of legal trouble. What is and what is not considered free speech seems to be up to the courts.

What brands are utilizing proper social media ethical practices? Don't use ChatGPT. Do your own research and explain why you think these organizations are doing a good job with social media ethics.
A few brands using ethical social media practices focusing on transparency, authenticity, and respect for users is TOMS, Dr. Bronner’s, and Warby Parker.
TOMS shoes – TOMS doesn’t just focus on selling their products, they give just as much attention to social benefit behind their brand… helping people.
Dr. Bronner’s – Dr. Bronner’s practices “Do right by customers” in everything it does, they practice social activism and have gained trust through transparency and visible social action.
Warby Parker – Warby Parker includes their customers in their narrative, the “customer is an agent of social responsibility and change.”
Are there any professionals that you feel practice strong ethical behavior on social media?
I don’t have a big presence on social media and I don’t follow any celebrities but I do enjoy a YouTube channel my husband follows, Perkins Builder Brothers. They are a small construction company who film their projects, they are funny and relatable, they explain what they are doing and they include their mistakes. As I was reading our textbook, particularly the chapter on influencers and content creators, they were in the forefront of my mind. Every video they post is consistent with their brand. Their message is, “Pro building and project tips on how to build better homes… always with a bit of humor,” on this, they deliver. One of the brothers, Jaime, answers every comment posted on their YouTube channel. They give credit to their employees, they do not pass ideas off as their own. They let you know when they are promoting a paid product and they use the products they advertise. One that comes to mind is Factor premade meals. One video may contain and advertisement for Factor while in another video you will see them eating Factor meals on lunch breaks.
What are some takeaways you can bring forth in your own practices?
Some takeaways from the Perkins brothers and the textbook that I will practice is to be me and never try to be something I’m not. Once I have identified what my brand is, I will remain consistent yet tailored for the platforms. I will not endorse people or products I don’t believe in or use myself just to get likes and follows. Being authentic and practicing what they preach has earned the Perkins Brothers 1.11million followers on YouTube, there is definitely something to be said about keeping it real.
What main concepts do you think are necessary to adhere to for your own personal conduct online?
For me, respect and empathy are at the top of my list. I still believe in treating others the way I want to be treated, this is important in-person and online. Bullying is not an option, never will I attack a person online with hate speech, hurtful messages, or untrue information just to make myself feel better. Not only can your posts become evidence in a court case or get you fired from work, but they can completely destroy someone’s life. It is impossible to agree with everyone all the time, but that doesn’t give you the right to cut someone down. Information will always be accurate and factual, there is enough fake news out there without me contributing to it. I will never take credit for something that isn’t mine or be fake in who I am or what I believe in. Hand in hand with that, there needs to be a limit on what is shared. Oversharing can become a turn off, I want a positive experience for those who visit my social media pages. To keep that positive experience, venting will be internal and not external. There will be no flame wars, I will remain cool, calm, and collected and step away from the keyboard when I feel anything less. Privacy is another concept at the top of my list, I want my privacy respected and will respect other’s privacy by never sharing personal information, photos, or videos without the proper consent. And I think having a social media policy, even if I am an organization of one, will keep me inline as well as let my audiences know what they can expect from me.
What main concepts do you feel strongly against and want to make sure you avoid on social media?
The number one thing I will be sure to avoid is bullying. We can agree to disagree and be done. “Establishing fake accounts, saying negative false things about people, being aggressive with hurtful messages, and sharing others’ private information for the public to see…” (Social Media for Strategic Communication, Ch. 2, P. 39) is not my style and will not be tolerated from my audience either. Having an opinion is ok, we all have them, but that is where it ends. Harassing posts will be removed immediately and lead to the poster being banned. The second issue to avoid is providing false information. Just because a post is trending does not mean that I need to hop on the bandwagon. If something catches my attention that I would like to share with my audience, I will my best to validate the information before sharing it. Another issue to watch out for is uniformity. Not being familiar with all social media platforms has me at a disadvantage in knowing what content is appropriate for each channel. Being consistent is important but so is personalizing content for each platform to be engaging with your audience.
List 5-10 core concepts that you will follow as a practicing social media professional.
Establish and maintain brand voice. Consistency is key. Values, personality, tone and style consistently portrayed across platforms helps your audience to recognize and identify your brand and it gains trust.
Have a strategic plan. Following a set of guidelines will “provide a road map so that the life span and direction of content is not left to chance” (Social Mecia for Strategic Communication, Ch. 7, P. 164). If you post all willy-nilly, your brand will not make sense and you will get lost in a sea of content creators/influencers who are trying to make a name for themselves.
Take responsibility for what you post. Not all reactions will be positive, know how to handle negative responses.
Respond to followers. Don’t leave your audience hanging. Audience engagement is important for keeping your brand alive. If you do not respond to questions and comments, you run the risk of losing followers.
Create engaging content. Now that you know your audience, give them what they are looking for. Focus on quality over quantity of engagement, treat your online world the same as you do your in-person world, be true and authentic.
Know my audience. What are their needs and expectations. “Understanding each audience will help you develop effective key messages featuring strong points that resonate with each audience member, which will contribute to formulating strong connections and relationships” (Social Media for Strategic Communication, Ch. 11, P. 274).
Be authentic and transparent. Do not try to be someone online that you are not offline. “Be the better person (my mother would love that) because each conversation, interaction, and piece of content shared online contributes to the marble glass of items that make up your reputation” (Social Media for Strategic Communication, Ch. 2, P. 53).
Practice social media ethics. Stay away from the “deadly sins of social media. Misappropriation. Abandonment. Manipulation. Ignorance. Monotony. Narcissism. Uniformity” (Social Media for Strategic Communication, Ch. 2, Pgs. 37-39). Also be warry of bullying, not giving proper credit, being intolerant, handing out fake news and misinformation, sharing too much, engaging in flame wars, automating all your responses, and going rogue.
