Last week while Henry was visiting his mum we set too and decorated his room. This super tiny space had to achieve a lot - * It has to be done on a budget * Where possible existing items had to be reused or repurposed * As little waste as possible had to be leftover * It had to be sustainable * Most importantly it had to meet ALL of Henry's needs One of the things we wanted to achieve as it is such a tiny room was to create him some space to play. Especially as out of all the kids he has the most toys. In the past we've tried him in a larger room but he has always preferred these smaller spaces. We believe that he feels safer in smaller rooms when he is feeling overwhelmed by sensory stimulus. We also wanted it to be easy for him to keep his room tidy, as he hates mess, so storage was a must. The room also needed to be calming and we wanted it to be a space where he could feel safe and calmed. Decorating for your small person can be extra tricky when you throw autism into the mix - but I think we succeeded. The whole project was a family effort headed up by his Nana Jill (aka @twinklybutterflies) and we couldn't be more grateful to her. Loving how my bedroom is finally coming together and starting to feel like my own little sanctuary. Having a rented home often means you get stuck with decor you wouldn't normally choose. For us it was this brown wallpaper, however some new bedding, cushions, and prints have definitely helped. Also shopping our home and moving my moons and the macramé wall hanging to over the bed have added to the boho vibe. There's still some tinkering to do but love how it's starting to come together. Repost [vikkis_vintage_life] --- Yesterday Jon and I celebrated our official one year anniversary. I woke up to breakfast in bed and a delivery of a beautiful bunch of my favourite flowers. Sadly and much to his annoyance I had to work during the day but in the evening I planned a surprise outdoor cinema night in the garden and cracked open a bottle of champagne I’d been saving for a special occasion. I even made a little fire pit so it was really cosy and I managed (just about) to not set anything on fire. Small victories for someone as unlucky as me. Today we went back to Ilam for a picnic in the park and more fizz after last weeks Dovedale failure we knew the perfect picnic spot and we then went for a (very hungover) stroll around the beautiful park. Shopper makes stunning DIY dining bench – using IKEA Kallax units and velvet headboard

This DIY job is super impressive, a great example of how repurposing furniture can pay off handsomely.

Medina Grillo, who describes herself as ‘an IKEA loving, Upcycling junkie, DIY passionate, home decor crazy, renter’ used three IKEA Kallax shelving units and a velvet upholstered headboard to make an alternative dining bench – and it’s stunning!

Medina shares her ingenious IKEA hack on her blog Grillo Designs, where you can see exactly how she did it.

In a nutshell she says, ‘To secure the KALLAX units together and create a more sturdy seating surface I used wood planks.  I placed them across the the top of the three connected units and secured each one with wood glue, and nails.’

She then brilliantly converted a headboard, meant for a bed, into a comfy bench backrest. ’I fell in love with this velvet headboard as soon as I saw it! It’s meant for a double sized.’ Instead of using it for its intended purpose Medina attached the upholstered headboard directly to the wall, at the perfect height to create a backrest for the bench.

We think you’ll agree, this dining area is worthy of a chic, trendy restaurant space! We adore the overall look.

‘As we are spending so much more time at home now, I really wanted to find ways to make this dining corner in my home feel more enjoyable for us all – especially now that it is Ramadan and this is mostly where we will be gathering each night to break our fasts.’ Medina writes on one of her posts.

‘A lot of the changes I made were down to repurposing things I already had, for example, the paint (from my living room), the bench, and the plywood shelves (scraps of wood from past wood working project). I also swapped out our rectangle table for this round table from Next which has made mealtimes so much more intimate (the previous table is going to be my desk).. What do you think of the new revamped space?’
