What is HTML? - steno vocab list
im practicing using hard copy today, and the webpage i just completed is:
i only know as much HTML and CSS as needed to customize a Neopets webpage at this point.
my goal for taking this course is to be able to redesign my Tumblr blog. the color scheme isnt where i want it to be. not high enough contrast for ppl who rly need the high contrast, and it definitely makes it awful for basically anyone, tbh. not good or accessible.
anyway, by practicing to this webpage, i think im rly hitting two balls with one bat here. or maybe im not actually taking in any of the info at all lol idk
this wont be an exhaustive list of all terms on the page (that would literally be most of the words lol). this is just what i needed to note while writing
Click read more to see my list!
Tags:
here is my workaround for writing the tags:
TKPWA* -> {^ ^}{#shift(comma)}
TKPW*E -> {#shift(period)}{^^}
TKPWA*T -> {#shift(comma)}{^^}
TKPW*ET -> {#shift(period)}
these, combined, can produce:
space <tag>word<tag> space
Additionally:
STKPWA*T -> {^^}{#shift(comma)}{&/}{^^}
STKPW*ET -> {#shift(period)}
can produce:
word</tag> space
Also:
STKPWA*ET -> {#shift(period)}{^^}
can produce:
tag>WordNoSpace
and
tag><NoSpace tag></NoSpace
when combined with TKPWA*T and STKPWA*T
These have been added to my Google doc called legal transcription commands, captioning commands, and punctuation.
Words in my dictionary, but i didn't know/didn't remember how to write:

Tumblr Futures and the Newsletter Revolution
Tumblr could be a platform for newsletter writers and other creators
Tumblr media
Photo by Patrick Fore on Unsplash
I've been using Tumblr fairly consistently for many years, here at stoweboyd.com and on other blogs, like workfutures.org. I think I moved to Tumblr sometime in 2007, importing materials I had managed previously on Typepad and Blogger. At any rate, I now have over 14,000 posts here, and (supposedly) 163,000+ followers.
I am dug in.
In recent years, with the rise of the newsletter revolution, I have tried many newsletter platforms, including Patreon, Medium, Revue, and Substack. At the present time I am publishing the Work Futures newsletter on Substack.
Substack is certainly the best of the various platforms I have tried. I want to like Medium, but they keep shifting their approach and plans, and have not been very fast at implementing various improvements they've discussed (such as importing subscriber lists). Substack simply works at what it aims to do. However, Substack lacks a feeling of community of the sort that Medium and Tumblr have.
I can envision a version of Tumblr that would include newsletter support: subscriber registration, subscription fees, emailing, stats, and so on. Much of this could build on the Tumblr follower model, extended to include subscribers.
I have no idea whether the Tumblr folks are intending anything of this sort. But why not?
Tumblr was acquired by Automattic -- the folks behind WordPress -- in August 2019, and has been letting Tumblr be Tumblr, aside from continuing the ban on adult content that Verizon imposed. There is work afoot to move Tumblr onto a WordPress backend, but no grand strategy has been disclosed about Tumblr and newsletters.
Automattic acquired Atavist in 2018, with the goal of integrating Atavist publishing model, including newsletters, into the company's existing LongReads product. LongReads is a reader-supported project to fund long format writing, and the feel is something like Medium: subscribers pay $5 per month to supporth the site.
In recent days, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have announced plans to get into newsletters, Twitter by acquisition of Revue. I am a heavy user of Twitter, and see that the Revue deal could work for them.
What I really want is a souped-up, newsletter-supporting Tumblr, where I can get the social media community of Tumblr with the addition of a newsletter community something like Substack, all in one package.
I hope they are working on it.
I forgot that I had written about this idea two years ago. See A New Direction For Tumblr:
For a few months, I have been advocating a major addition for Tumblr, something that might offer a new path for the more-or-less stagnant property: add the functionality to allow Tumblr 'creators’ to make money on the site. This would mean
Subscriptions for access to material behind a paywall (this would mean integration with Stripe or some other money platform)
Newsletter tools that integrate with Tumblr existing publishing workflow
Creation (or acquisition) or podcasting and video capabilities
Possible Medium-like publishing schemes so that creators can get paid for popular content.
Advertising opportunities based on tags?
I also happened upon this post by Richard MacManus from Sep 2019, How blogs, newsletters & Tumblr can fight back against social media - Cybercultural, in which he makes a similar argument:
In my view, there’s potential to build a significant new form of networking with blogs, Tumblr and email newsletters, this time built around cultural content.
The current wave of email newsletters proves there is demand for thoughtful media content, while Tumblr shows that this content can include more multimedia than we typically see in email newsletters. Naturally, multimedia is best viewed on the Web - not in inboxes. So I’m hoping Automattic can find a way to direct readers back to the Web, with the help of its latest acquisition.

Tag Helpers In Asp.Net Core MVC
New Post has been published on https://sagarjaybhay.com/tag-helpers-in-asp-net-core-mvc-sagar-jaybhay/
Tag Helpers In Asp.Net Core MVC
Tumblr media
All about Tag helpers in asp.net core MVC explained by sagar jaybhay
Asp page tag helper / Tag helpers in Asp.net Core MVC
This is new in Asp.net core.
These are a server-side component.
It is processed on the server and renders an HTML element in razor files.
It is similar to Html helpers
There are so many tag helpers like generating the link, creating forms, etc,
To use tag helper we need to import these tag helper first.
For example, we need to create anchor a tag with the help of tag helper
<a asp-controller="home" asp-action="Details" asp-route-id="@stud.StudentId">Details</a>
In this
asp-controller= is took controller name
asp-action= is the action or method name present in that controller
asp-route-id= is the parameter we pass to that method.
You can see if we use Tag-Helper the color is changed syntax is good and clean. Now we can see the same example, by HTML helper.
@Html.ActionLink("Link Text","ActionName", "ControllerName", new id = stud.StudentId );
Also, another way is to create an anchor element.
@Url.Action("details", "home", new id = stud.StudentId );
The use of above method is that it returns string element.
Advantages of Tag Helper? / Why use Tag Helper?
Tag helper generates the link as per the route template. If in future you route template change these changes are present on startup.cs file and if you use regular Html static code or Html helper then newly generated URL is not present in that HTML file.
Tumblr media
Image Tag Helper:
Use general img tag but only in that add one asp-append-version=”true” property add so that it converts to image tag helper and it is very useful.
First, it enhances the <img> tag which provides cache-busting behavior for a static image file. First, understand what it means browser have cache functionality if we use image one and after the certain period we use image 2 but the name is same so the browser will show old file because when we use several times it saves in cache memory. To avoid this asp-append-version which enables us to append a unique hash value to the name of the image and it is calculated based on an image if our image change in future value will change.  So it means when our image on server change the new hash will be generated and it is appended to image.
<img class="card-img-top" src="~/images/images.jpg" asp-append-version="true"/>
Tumblr media
Environment Tag Helper:
It used for conditionally loading or rendering the elements which are present inside the tag and it is based on hosting setting. Environment variables have a name attribute which we pass the comma-separated value which matches with hosting environment and result will produce.
<environment names="Staging,Production"> <strong>HostingEnvironment.EnvironmentName is Staging or Production</strong> </environment> Include and Exclude attribute: These include & exclude attributes which control the rendering of enclosed content based on the included or excluded hosting environment names. <environment include="Staging,Production"> <strong>HostingEnvironment.EnvironmentName is Staging or Production</strong> </environment> <environment exclude="Development"> <strong>HostingEnvironment.EnvironmentName is not Development</strong> </environment>
It is mainly used, to load minified or not minified means for development required CSS, js, jquery files like that.
Cache Tag Helper:
It is used to cache the content and improve the performance of asp.net application.
<cache>@DateTime.Now</cache> The cache expiration time is 20 by default. expires-on:- This attribute is used to set expiration date. <cache expires-on="@new DateTime(2025,1,29,17,02,0)"> Current Time Inside Cache Tag Helper: @DateTime.Now </cache>
expires-after:is used to set expires after the first request
<cache expires-after="@TimeSpan.FromSeconds(120)"> Current Time Inside Cache Tag Helper: @DateTime.Now </cache>
Form Tag Helpers in Asp.Net Core:
To create strongly typed form in asp.net core we use form tag with adding asp-action,asp-controller like attribute so it becomes form tag helper.
To create strongly typed form use an asp-for attribute in your Html tag element like input, select, radio buttons. I am showing the example below in which Student is our model and it is strongly bound to our create form tag.
@model Student @ ViewData["Title"] = "Create"; <h1>Create</h1> <h4>Student</h4> <hr /> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-4"> <form asp-action="Create" asp-> <div asp-validation-summary="ModelOnly" class="text-danger"></div> <div class="form-group"> <label asp-for="StudentId" class="control-label"></label> <input asp-for="StudentId" class="form-control" /> <span asp-validation-for="StudentId" class="text-danger"></span> </div> <div class="form-group"> <label asp-for="FullName" class="control-label"></label> <input asp-for="FullName" class="form-control" /> <span asp-validation-for="FullName" class="text-danger"></span> </div> <div class="form-group"> <label asp-for="Address" class="control-label"></label> <input asp-for="Address" class="form-control" /> <span asp-validation-for="Address" class="text-danger"></span> </div> <div class="form-group"> <label asp-for="Division" class="control-label"></label> <select asp-items="@Html.GetEnumSelectList<Divi>()"></select> </div> <div class="form-group"> <input type="submit" value="Create" class="btn btn-primary" /> </div> </form> </div> </div> <div> <a asp-action="List">Back to List</a> </div>
In the above example, we also use a select tag. we have 3 ways to add data in a select tag but I am using only one way in which we take enum which declared enum in model.
public enum Divi A_8, B_8, A_9, B_9, A_10, B_10
So in asp-input, we use an asp-items attribute for which we use Html helper to enumerated list from that enum. Below is code for that
<select asp-items="@Html.GetEnumSelectList<Divi>()"></select>
Always remember the asp-action of form tag default point to the same method or action method which is called.
<form asp-action="Create" >
Asp.net tag list
Anchor Tag Helper
Cache Tag Helper
Distributed Cache Tag Helper
Environment Tag Helper
FormActionTagHelper
Form Tag Helper
Form Action Tag Helper
Image Tag Helper
Input Tag Helper
Label Tag Helper
Partial Tag Helper
Select Tag Helper
Textarea Tag Helper
Validation Message Tag Helper

Note
This is super nice info, great to know!
Some info on how you can do this on tumblr below the cut
For tumblr, you can also add <hr />, but it is a little annoying - you have to edit the html. You can also add ALT property for your images the same way. which I believe is picked up by screen readers.
Here is my post - in the cogwheel, select the HTML editor
Tumblr media
Great, this is my HTML:
Tumblr media
Add an <hr /> to the html, and add an alt property to the image
Tumblr media
Look at that preview!
Tumblr media
NOTE: If you at any time switch back to the rich text editor, the <hr /> will go away, as the rich text editor doesn’t support it. Interestingly, the alt tag stayed.
Also note - for any other elements, for instance if you have custom OC pages with buttons with images or other elements not easily read by a screen reader, you should use the aria-label: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility/ARIA/ARIA_Techniques/Using_the_aria-label_attribute
For a more indepth guide to html accessibility for webpages, this is a good place to start: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/Accessibility
If your story has different points of view, is it annoying to switch between them in a single chapter? Thank you!
I do that all the time, so I hope not! lol
seriously, though - as long as the switches are clear and don’t cause confusion you should be fine. I find it helps to use the horizonal rule in between viewpoints to show the flip in perspective.
Note: don’t use stylistic breaks between viewpoints (or scenes) like a series of asterisks or tildes etc. If someone is using a screen reader, it will read out each symbol that you use. Also using indicators like “Character A’s POV” tend to break up the story and take people out the narrative. Or at least they do for me.

تگ عنوان در html بررسی ویدیویی
Tumblr media
<h1>Heading 1</h1> <h2>Heading 2</h2> <h3>Heading 3</h3> <h4>Heading 4</h4> <h5>Heading 5</h5> <h6>Heading 6</h6>
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <body> <h1 style="font-size:60px;">Heading 1</h1> <p>You can change the size of a heading with the style attribute, using the font-size property.</p> </body> </html>

Time for Client-side development!
Tumblr media
In my eighth blog article today we are going to have a look at introduction to Client-side development.
As discussed in the fourth blog article,Distributed systems use client-side elements. Also we now know that client-side elements are
•Views – what users see (mainly GUIs) •Controllers – contain event handlers for the Views •Client-model – Business logic and data
Tumblr media
We will be focusing on tools and technologies used to develop Client-side designs.
1.View development Browser-based clients’ Views has two main elements HTML CSS
Tumblr media
HTML is used in making content while CSS is used in formatting.
*HTML-Hyper Text Markup Language This describes the structure of web pages using markup.
HTML elements are represented by tags. The following elements to perform it's functionality.
•Structural elements header, footer, nav, aside, article
•Text elements Tags are used to label content of the following. Headings – <h1> to <h6> Paragraph – <p> Line break - <br>
• Images Using <img> tag images can be inserted to web pages.
•Hyperlinks <hr> can be used to embed web links into web pages.
Other than these basic elements,HTML uses elements like •Data representational elements Data structure like Lists and tables are used for nesting purposes.
•Form elements These contain radio buttons, check boxes, buttons and so on.
*CSS-Cascading Style Sheets CSS are used to design web pages.
Tumblr media
Things like the following can be done using CSS.. , Aligning Font and text editing. Color and background controls. Positioning.
CSS has three main selectors known, •Element selector • ID selector •Class selector
Also advanced selectors include pseudo classes and pseudo elements.
CSS can be used as, 1. Inline CSS 2. Internal CSS sheets 3. External CSS sheets
* Inline CSS Are used to include designs of a single element inside the code itself.
* Internal CSS sheets Used if a single page has to be included with a unique style.
* External CSS sheets Are coded as separate CSS file and used whenever needed.
*Media Query
Tumblr media
This is a CSS technique introduced in CSS3. It uses @media rule when including a block of CSS properties. This happens only if a certain condition is true.
To learn more on HTML and CSS these links can be used..
https://www.w3schools.com/htmL/html_intro.asp
https://www.w3schools.com/css/css_howto.asp
Frameworks and libraries and plugins
View development uses frameworks, libraries and plugins too..
Some of the sophisticated tools are, jQuery,jQuery UI,Angular,React,Bootstrap,NodeJS and etc.
Tumblr media
1.jQuery jQuery is a JavaScript Library. But this works as a framework too.
2.Angular This framework is operated by the Google.Front end applications are developed by this.
3.React Another JS library which became very popular within a short period of time.User interfaces can be built using this.
4.Bootstrap Out of frameworks this is very popular as it supports HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is free to download. The dimensions of a web page viewed in a computer can be adjusted to be viewed by a mobile phone as appropriate by reducing the screen size.
More information can be found in W3Schools website,
https://www.w3schools.com/bootstrap/
https://www.w3schools.com/jquery/
*Templates
Tumblr media
Templates can maintain consistency across pages in the web site or applications. Most templates can be edited easily and they are free to be downloaded. Templates can be found for both server and client sides.
Tumblr media
•Client-side (JS-based) template engines NUNJUCKS, PUG, MUSTACHE.JS, HANDLEBARS
•Server-side template engines Twig, jTwig, Thymeleaf, Apache Velocity
Like we discussed in the beginning of the article,browser-based clients has the two main components as,controllers and client and models.
And the above discussed frameworks, libraries and templates are used to develop these components.
In client-side component development tools main features like •DOM processing (dynamic content generation, change, removal) •Data processing •Data persistence •Session management (cookies) •Communicating (with server components)
* Generic client-side features •Form/data validation When data is entered to forms they must be validated importantly. JS can be used for this basically.
•Dynamic content generating/updating Once data is entered it must be generated and updated as wanted with user levels if needed.
•Some business logic (client-model) Business logic is used when front end and back end coding is done.
•Delta-Communication (AJAX, SSE, WS) Tools like AJAX is used to update web pages without reloading, requesting or receiving or sending data from a server
•Data formatting/preparation Data should be able to format as required and prepared for final use.

What Is Semi-Structured Data?
To consider what semi-structured data is, let's start with an analogy -- interviewing.
Let's say you're conducting a semi-structured interview. This, as the name implies, falls somewhere in-between a structured and unstructured interview.
For context, a structured interview is one in which the questions being asked, as well as the order in which they are asked, is pre-determined by your HR team and consistent for each candidate. An unstructured interview, on the other hand, is one in which the questions, and the order in which they are asked, is up to the discretion of the interviewer -- and could be entirely different for each candidate.
When you consider these two extremes, you can begin to see the benefits of semi-structured interviews, which are fairly consistent and quantitative (like a structured interview), but still provide the interviewer with a window for building rapport, and asking follow-up questions.
Semi-structured data is similar in nature to a semi-structured interview -- it's not as messy and uncontrolled as unstructured data, but not as rigid and readily quantifiable as structured data.
What Is Semi Structured Data
Semi-structured data is information that does not reside in a relational database or any other data table, but nonetheless has some organizational properties to make it easier to analyze, such as semantic tags. A good example of semi-structured data is HTML code, which doesn't restrict the amount of information you want to collect in a document, but still enforces hierarchy via semantic elements.
Here, we're going to explore the difference between structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data to ensure you have a good understanding of the terms.
Structured, Semi-Structured, and Unstructured Data
Structured data is known as quantitative data, and is objective facts and numbers that analytics software can collect -- this type of data is easy to export, store, and organize in a database such as Excel or SQL. Structured data is valuable because you can gain insights into overarching trends by running the data through data analysis methods, such as regression analysis and pivot tables.
Here's an example of structured data in an excel sheet:
Alternatively, semi-structured data does not conform to relational databases such as Excel or SQL, but nonetheless contains some level of organization through semantic elements like tags. For instance, consider HTML, which does not restrict the amount of information you can collect in a document, but enforces a certain hierarchy:
This is a good example of semi-structured data. As you can see, HTML is organized through code, but it's not easily extractable into a database, and you can't use traditional data analytics methods to gain insights.
Finally, unstructured data -- otherwise known as qualitative data. When it comes to marketing, unstructured data is any opinion or comment you might collect about your brand. While what your consumers are saying is undeniably important, you can't easily extract meaningful analytical data from those messages.
An example of unstructured data includes email responses, like this one:
Take a look at Unstructured Data Vs. Structured Data: A 3-Minute Rundown for more clarification on structured vs. unstructured data.
Semi Structured Data Examples
Email
CSV, XML and JSON documents
NoSQL databases
HTML
Electronic data interchange (EDI)

freeCodeCamp Tribute Page Project
In this post, I talked about going through the freeCodeCamp learning curriculum. I’ve done parts of it before, but I never got to finish it. Now that there’s a new curriculum, I resolved to go through it again from the beginning. Hopefully, this time I’ll be able to finish it.
Anyway, I’ve now gotten to the part where we have to make responsive web design projects. The first project is the Tribute Page. I was able to make this before for J.K. Rowling using Bootstrap 4.
Now, I’d like to try my hand at making the Tribute Page again. This time, I’ve decided not to use a framework like Bootstrap. I want to focus on using just plain HTML and CSS.
However, I do want to use this opportunity to practice and learn more about SASS (means Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets), a CSS preprocessor. So I’ve decided to use SCSS (means Sassy CSS). This is a newer version of SASS. The old one is .sass, and this doesn’t use brackets and semi-colons while .scss does.
Aside from that, I also want to be able to incorporate all the curriculum lessons that we’ve learned so far. Or, at the very least, include as much of the lessons as possible.
For this project, I’ve decided to make a Tribute Page for the Harry Potter series.
Tumblr media
The instructions for the Tribute Page project is here: https://learn.freecodecamp.org/responsive-web-design/responsive-web-design-projects/build-a-tribute-page.

freeCodeCamp Curriculum Lessons NOT Used in the Tribute Page Project
The following are the freeCodeCamp curriculum lessons that I wasn’t able to use in the Tribute Page project. I really wanted to use all of the lessons for this project. But, unfortunately, it just wasn’t possible. For the next projects, I hope I’ll be able to use these lessons.
All the CSS Grid lessons - initially I wanted to make the Tribute Page using both Flexbox and CSS Grid. But I decided that it would be better to focus on just one layout per project. For the Tribute Page, I decided to go with the Flexbox layout
Improve Accessibility of Audio Content with the audio Element - the Tribute Page doesn’t have any audio
Declare the Doctype of an HTML Document - I’m using CodePen to make the Tribute Page, so the Doctype has already automatically been declared
Create a Graphic Using CSS
Create a More Complex Shape Using CSS and HTML
Make a CSS Heartbeat using an Infinite Animation Count
Create Movement Using CSS Animation
Create Visual Direction by Fading an Element from Left to Right - I did use opacity, but not for fading an element from left to right. Instead, I used it to change the appearance of images and links on hover
Animate Elements Continually Using an Infinite Animation Count
Animate Elements at Variable Rates
Animate Multiple Elements at Variable Rates
Learn How Bezier Curves Work
Use a Bezier Curve to Move a Graphic
Make Motion More Natural Using a Bezier Curve

Lock an Element to the Browser Window with Fixed Positioning
Change an Element's Relative Position
Move a Relatively Positioned Element with CSS Offsets
Lock an Element to its Parent with Absolute Positioning
Standardize Times with the HTML5 datetime Attribute
Make Elements Only Visible to a Screen Reader by Using Custom CSS
Add a Negative Margin to an Element
Override All Other Styles by using Important
Cascading CSS variables - I did make a CSS variable, but I didn’t add it to  :root since it was only for a specific element
Change a variable for a specific area
Use a media query to change a variable
Make Typography Responsive - I used rem for the font sizes, not viewport units
