Confession. [Lapidot]
-AngelBismuth
The ocean.
The dark, suffocating ocean.
Water filling her lungs, she's trapped.
She's always been trapped, she'll never get away, she'll never be free .
No matter what she does.
It's like she's drowning.
Maybe she is.
-----
Lapis jolted awake in her bed, tears staining her face as she huffed and tried desperately to catch her breath. Where was she? What time was it? She didn't know. She didn't care. She needed her head to stop racing, she needed to hear something real, she needed to come back to reality.
"Lapis...?" A tired, strained voice echoed around the room. Lapis's breath caught in her throat.
"W..who.." The ocean gem didn't finish her sentence, trailing off. "J..Jasp-" she choked out a sob.
Peridot threw the covers off of herself, clumsily fumbling off of her bed and across the room, not hesitating to climb into her roommates sleeping space. "Lapis? Hey, Laz. Are you alright?" She stressed, setting her hands on the other gem's shoulders.
"D..Don't... Don't touch me. Please.." Lapis said, barely above a whisper. Peridot drew her hands back, "Are you alright? Do you need anything? Can I help?"
"No, no.. just. Please just sit with me...?"
"Yeah.. yeah. Okay.."
And so they stayed there, in relative silence, Peridot mumbling sweet nothings, Lapis trying to breath steadily, comfort hovering around them.
It was a quiet moment. A soft moment.
It was always a soft moment when Peridot was worried, it was something Lapis was used to.
It was something that Lapis found comfort in. Something she could rely on when she need it.
Peridot brought her comfort.
Maybe that's why she loved her so much
-
"Peridot?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you.. for being here. For caring. Heh.. I don't know what I'd do without you.."
Peridot set her hand on the other girl's hesitantly, "It's really okay, I don't mind. I'm just happy to be here for you. I'll always be here when you need me. I really care about you, Laz.."
Lapis took in a sharp breath, her hands shaky as she reached forward to tilt her roommates chin up, she shuffled forward a bit. "Peridot..."
The green gem hummed nervously
"I think... I'm in love with you.."
The room fell silent.
"You.. l..."
"Y-you don't have to say anything.. I don't expect you to, i- I just thought-"
"No! I mean- I.."
Peridot stopped. She took a deep breath, resting her hands on the sides of her friend's face.
"I like you, too." She mumbled.
"..you do?"
"I do. Really."
Lapis smiled, leaning forward.
Their lips met softly in a feather-light kiss. It was.. nice. It was soft, it was sweet, it felt right.
Lapis really loved her.
"That was.. a lousy way to confess, huh?"
They both laughed quietly,
"Nah. It was great."

Lapidot Week - Day Five; Confessions
All the "I love you"'s throughout the years
@lapidot-week
"I think I love you."
Peridot glances up from the microwave she's been experimenting with. Lapis is hovering a ways away, the genuinely puzzled look on her face betraying her bland tone.
Peridot puts down the microwave "what?" She asks, because what?
Lapis just stares dramatically off into the distance, like one of those movie stars on the television. "Well, at the very least I don't despise you anymore" she says, then shrugs "I dunno, I was just watching you" she makes a vague gesture with her hands "tinker, and I realised that I like you."
"Gee, thanks" Peridot huffs, turning back around so Lapis can't see her smile.
"I think I love you."
They're watching Andy fly off in his plane (and fighting the urge to blow it up) when Peridot says it.
Lapis turns to regard her, and the little Gem is holding the wedding cake, staring at it with bafflement. "Why though?" She asks, because that seems like a reasonable response. The look Peridot gives her, the same one she gives when Lapis refers to herself as useless, or a waste of space, tells her that she disagrees.
"I asked Steven about this whole 'marriage' thing, and he told me that when two people love each other very much, they decide to live together forever. We live together, so, by reverse engineering this marriage thing, then I love you!" She beams, obviously proud of herself for figuring this out.
Lapis snorts and nods her head "fair enough."
It's watching Camp Pining Hearts that they finally realise what love actually means.
They spend the rest of the night rewatching the show, and not meeting each others eyes.
They stop saying it after that.
"You're my best friend" Peridot says instead.
"I care about you" Lapis will say.
After all, they're Gems. They can't feel that way.
Lapis goes to the moon, tail tucked between her legs, tired in a way she hasn't been in ages.
She originally only stopped there for a quick rest, but then finds an Observation Orb. It's just a quick checkup, making sure that Peridot is okay with the others, a brief glance then she's gone.
. . . . . . she looks so sad.
So Lapis spends weeks, in the same sitting position, watching Peridot interact with other creatures.
I love you sits on her tongue, but she doesn't say it.
There's nobody to say it to.
Lapis returns, and what a return! Dropping their barn on a Diamond!
(Later, she'll be mad at all of the Meep-Morps that were destroyed, but for now-)
Peridot bounds across the beach towards Lapis (Lapis! Peridot felt as if her Gem was full of fizz and stars.), kicking up sand when she skids to a stop.
So many things to say, now that Lapis is here (Lapis! Is! Here! In front of her!) but all she can manage is "hey."
She doesn't seem to comment on the dress Peridot is wearing, or the Wedding Outfits or the Wedding or the realisation that Gems can, in fact feel that way towards another.
(That had been a shock for Peridot, realising that she and Lapis could be-)
I love you, she thinks, I love you, I love you, I love youIloveyou-
No words come out though, and the Diamonds are rising once more, so Lapis turns away from her.
They regenerate, and barely have any time to talk before they're making a beeline towards the nearest scrapyard, trying to build themselves a ship.
Lapis hasn't felt this out of place in a long time.
It's not just because Peridot is angry that she left and stole their entire house in the process, though that doesn't hurt. No, the worst of it is just how . . . close Peridot and Bismuth are.
Lapis doesn't even know Bismuth, yet here she is with Peridot, relaxed and happy, and friendly. Oh, she's nice to Lapis too, but she and Peridot have something special, the kind of bond that could only happen between an Engineer and a Builder; light, cheerful, full of terms that Lapis can't even begin to understand.
She's sitting down, watching them banter back and forth sulkily, when Peridot runs off to find another wrench, and it's then that Bismuth turns to her. "You alright over there?" She calls, face open and friendly, and Lapis shouldn't hate her but she does.
In response, she hums noncommittally, and watches Peridot's retreating figure. Bismuth follows her line of sight and laughs, deep and understanding. "You don't have to worry, y'know" she says.
"I don't?" Lapis challenges, because that is what she's always done, always pushed.
Bismuth shrugs, looking unbothered by her aggressive tone "well, yeah. She likes me, but she loves you."
Then she turns away and gets back to building, leaving Lapis alone to her thoughts.
It takes one year, two months and almost seven days for the phrase to be used again.
Their relationship is at best undefined, and at worst a paradox. Some of their friends think that they're dating, while others just think they're 'gals being pals'. Not even Lapis or Peridot are sure what's going on. Sudden awareness, of being on the precipice of something, but unsure what that something is. Things that could be described as dates, or flirting, fell into this undefined grey area with them.
The rule was simple; don't look too hard, or everything will be gay.
Then, slowly, things begin to change. Surprisingly, Lapis is the one to actually kick start it all, instead of the usual proactive Peridot.
They're at the Arcade, absolutely killing it at Meat Beat Mania, when Lapis finally works up the courage to say "I really like you Peridot." Peridot drops her meat, and promptly bursts into tears. Before Lapis can even begin to panic, Peridot is climbing Lapis and throwing her arms around her neck, the sounds of the Game Over screen behind them.
Lapis teases her about this for a bit, at least until Peridot has the idea to give her flowers; roses. She had burst into tears, and Peridot had panicked and dropped the bouquet in the mud.
As an apology, Lapis sent her a bouquet of her own; Blue Orchids, like the ones that had been on their farm.
Peridot leaves her funny little notes; you're doing great! Remember to smile! Kick their butts! They never fail to get Lapis to smile.
And, finally, there is a day when Peridot finally says "I love you Lapis", only for Lapis to start laughing and crying at the same time.
I love you too, Peri.
Lapis tasts like saltwater and crisp cotton and it is the most amazing thing Peridot has ever experienced.
"I love you" Lapis says, pulling back a bit "I love you ,Peri, I love you so-"
Peridot cuts her off with another kiss.

Lapidot returns coastline to Bolivia by accident. (Part One) (This is for my nerd homie it makes sense when in context with her)
It was a crisp saturday morning on the side of earth that Lapis Lazuli (ranked the most beautiful gem on earth according to an anonymous poll) feeling blue as a shoe.
"Everyday I'm Lapis..." She said, casually flipping through channels like she actually wanted to see what was on. She didn't really. "And I don't want to be. Why was I meant to be the sadden gem who feels tired and glum all the time?"
"Lazuliiiiii!" A crunchy voice came from below.
"Hello Peridot..." Why can't I be like peridot, brave and fierce and cute and sweet and fun all at once? Lapis thought.
"Lazuli are you up there moping in the second barn I rebuilt? It's not your new glum puddle."
"Peridot I want to watch TV right now. I don't want to go on any missions."
"No you don't, and besides I am just here to ask you if you wanna hang out you silly clod!"
Lapis Lazuli smiled and blushed.
"I mean...hehe...sorry you're not a clod lazuli can you please come down? I miss having fun with you!"
"I thought you said I got on your nerves peridot~" Lapis said, bemused.
"Lazuli nooo I just uh... oh just come down already!"
Lapis slurked down the barn still tired and depressed.
Peridot noticed this and said "Stay here, I'll go get Spinel. She cheers everyone up! Except when she is trying to kill us but...well, she probably won't do that anymore! Ehehehe."
Peridot scampered off, returning soon later with a floppy, rather limp spinel. "Lazuli um... I need your help..."
"Nnngh..." groaned Spinel in clear discomfort.
"What's wrong? What happened to you Spinel?"
"Ugh.. I got hurt in a team fortress match... cracked my gem..."
"But Spinel, that game is way too violent for you!"
Her hair dropped sadly out of shame. "I know...I'm sorry Lapis, I found that out the hard way."
"How did you even get hurt playing a computer game?" Peridot asked.
"Computer...?"
Peridot gasped. "You didnt play it in real life did you?!"
"Mhmm... I did... Owww. A robot sniper had aimbot and he got a gemshot me!"
"Spinel, you should know better than to play that in real life. Come on." Lapis Lazuli grabbed Spinel and carried her over her shoulder back to the barn. "We need to call Steven and Pearl, they will know what to do."
Peridot followed behind Lapis into the barn, enjoying the view.
Spinel groaned in pain and said "Hey Lapis! Peridot is staring at your-" "NO I AM NOT, I AM NOT STARING AT ANYTHING, STOP TRYING TO GET ME IN TROUBLE SPINEL."
Lapis Lazuli ignored them and set Spinel on a bale of hay. She picked up the telephone off the receiver and dialed Steven's number on the number wheel.
"Pfft, lazuli, that phone is so old fashioned!" Peridot giggled. "When I first came to earth we didnt have those! What are you talking about Peridot?" Spinel said.
"Spinel you first got here thousands of years ago!"
"Hehehehe."
"Shush." Lazuli said. "This is most distressing and serious. Now, let me talk to Steven."
Stevens voice came through. "Believe it or not, Steven isnt at home, where could I be🎶" Said the automated message.
"Huh. I guess him and Pearl left?"
"Hhhhhhh Lapis! My gem hurts!" Spinel complained.
"Yes, I know Spinel. We will get you patched up. Let's call a geologist."
She flipped through the yellow pages of a phone book, remarking how old it was by how long it must have sat there for the pages to get so yellow.
After a quick call and scheduling an appointment for later that day (geologists aren't known for exactly being booked) they headed out.
"It says we have to go to Delaware." Lapis Lazuli said. She was smiling, enjoying having something do do.
"Deleware-?! But Lazuli! We cant go to Delaware!" Peridot pointed out.
Lapis giggled. "Not the state, Peridot. The old mining town just north of here. Confusing name, I know. Let's go!"
Lapis ran up the hillside, humming to herself. Peridot, carrying the now woozy Spinel, followed. "Hey wait up Lazuli! I cant go as fast when carrying spinel! My legs are too short.
Lapis turned around and grinned. "Don't worry Peridot! I got you!"
A wave swirled up from the ocean, picked up Peridot and Spinel, and carried them straight up the hill like they were nothing. "W-Woah!!" shouted Peridot. "Wheee!" added Spinel.
While the other two tumbled along through the water, when it reached the top Lapis jumped atop the wave and surfed it on her feet. "H-Hey! Lapis Lazuli-" Spinel tried to warn her that the sniper grounds were up north but Lapis did not hear her over the rushing water that kept cutting spinel off.
Some time later the wave crashed to a halt and Lapis Lazuli was holding the two smaller gems in her arms. "Now, how was that for a ride?" She asked calmly.
"Ehehehehe that was great Lazuli~" Peridot giggled, all blushy from being held by her crush.
"Guys.. Um... This is where I got hurt." Spinel muttered, putting her two index fingers together.
"What, this old train yard? With the train cars stacked up and the construction materials and equipment all over the place?" Lapis asked. "You fought a sniper with aimbot here?"
Spinel nodded nervously.
Something creaked in the distance, the sound echoing off the metal walls of the train cars.
"Spinel, what made you think anything about fighting here was safe? Why were you even here?"
Spinel bit her lower lip. "I... I just wanted to play..."
"Awe." Peridot said softly.
Lapis patted Spinel on the head. "Don't worry Spinel, we are almost there. The hatch leading down to Delaware should be around here somewhere."
"Did somebody say they want to challenge me?" A robotic voice called out. A sniper appeared over the top of one of the traincar stacks. He was t-posing to assert his dominance.
"Ah, Spinel! Back for round two against the Greatest, most Skillful robot sniper in the world?"
Spinel glared at him. "You aren't great at all! You have no skill, you use aimbot!" She yelled up at him.
"Of course I do! I am A ROBOT! AHAHAHAHA!" The sniper bot laughed in his rattly electronic tone. Suddenly, a blob of water engulfed him from behind and knocked him off the stack and sent him crashing to the ground. It would have knocked the wind out of him and broken his bones, if he had lungs or bones. The water hit the ground with a great splash that soaked the gems.
"There. Machines hate water." Lapis Lazuli said, in a satisfactory tone.
"Fool." He beeped in response. "I am covered in a water-repellent gloss! I am a waterproof bot! Did you really think it would never occur to me that someone may try to use a robot's weaknesses against me?!"
Lapis sighed and put the other two behind her. "Stay back girls. I will protect you from this.... Thing."
"Thing?! Oh that does it. Prepare to die!" The sniper raised his rifle, and aimed with perfect precision on her gem. He pulled the trigger but nothing happened.
"Did YOU really thing that your gunpowder weapon would work after getting soaked? Ah ha ha ha ha ha!" Lazuli said, mocking his previous words and rattly robot laughter. Spinel and Peridot also giggled behind her.
To be continued...

Let’s take a look at “That Distant Shore” and what it means for Lapidot
Before we begin, let’s clear something up: the song was for Peridot.
When Steven asks Lapis what she’s using the observation orb for…
…we almost immediately cut to a shot of Peridot, right before Lapis begins to sing.
She was also humming her song at the orb before Steven arrived at the moonbase, and she sat herself down right in front of Peridot while she was singing.
The lyrics of the song are very telling of Lapis’ feelings towards Peridot:
“Those funny feelings I had never felt before I met you”.
“Funny feelings”, indeed! The fact that Lapis only had these feelings when she “met [Peridot]” suggests that it’s something romantic (after all, she would already know what feelings of platonic friendship felt like, having befriended Steven long before Peridot).
These shots of Peridot right before (and then during) the song are also interesting. Notice how she’s separate from the main group of Crystal Gems; and also the fact that she takes herself away from the group altogether and sits sadly by herself. It’s clear that Lapis is still very much on her mind - she’s not gotten over this. And despite the Gems’ best efforts, I get the impression that Peridot still feels like somewhat of an outsider to the group. She doesn’t share the level of closeness with her fellow Crystal Gems as she did with Lapis.
“Maybe I find myself sitting on that distant shore,
Maybe I’m not alone.”
Lapis quite clearly wants to join Peridot on the beach, but she feels unable to do so. The fact that she repeats the line “Maybe I’m not alone” is also particularly interesting, given this little exchange back in Barn Mates:
Peridot: “We’re the same, except you don’t have to be alone.”
As the song continues it becomes abuntantly clear that Lapis’ trauma is what’s keeping her from going back:
“I know that there’s something residing,
A terror deep inside me,
I couldn’t understand how you could be so bold”.
Now, considering that this song is being sung about Peridot, I think it’s fair to say that Lapis is referring to Peridot’s determination to fight for the earth here (which Peridot expressed in Raising the Barn immediately before Lapis’ departure). Lapis doesn’t feel able to fight for the earth – and she can’t understand how Peridot is able to feel differently about the situation.
I think that this is something which Peridot is going to help Lapis with when she inevitably returns to earth. She’s obviously deeply traumatised and, despite her closeness to Peridot, she can’t see the world in the same way as her. Peridot has been helping Lapis every step of the way so far, and I feel like she’s going to play a massive part in Lapis eventually becoming a Crystal Gem.
Each of the Crystal Gems is fighting for something. So Garnet is fighting for the place where she can be herself, Amethyst is fighting for the only place she’s ever known as home, Pearl is fighting for Rose Quartz’s legacy, Steven is fighting because it’s what he feels he has to do, Peridot is fighting for the place that set her free... and as for Lapis? I think she’ll be fighting for the ones she loves (especially Peridot and Pumpkin), rather than for the planet itself, if the feelings that she’s very clearly expressed in this episode are anything to go by.
As well as the lyrics to the song, this look that Lapis gives to Peridot as she walks by really does say it all.

School Sucks
One shot for day 5 of lapidot week (highschool/collage human AU) I actually finished this early wut the hec.
Lots of fluff XD
-------------------------
The thud of heavy, tired footsteps marked the coming of a exhausted blonde up the stairs. She pushed open her door, leaning back on it to close it, then dropped her satchel and flopped face first onto the bed. At the moment she could careless about food or any kind of socializing.
She had woken up at 4 that morning and been forced on an hour long jog with her cousin, amythest, then had to shower, get dressed, and catch the bus before 7. As she had reached the cursed highschool she had of course had to run into jasper, where she somehow swindled her way out of a fight or more appropriately, an ass kicking. School itself was a nightmare, as 3 different classes had pop quizzes, and of course she had forgotten about her engineering class project, having to rush to write an entire essay within 20 minutes. She was picked on in p.e., and got in trouble for talking, so was sent to run laps instead of the activity. As if the day could not have gotten any worse, she missed her bus home, and had to walk 2 miles back.
Where she was now questioning everything and groaning as she thought how the universe must have had an off day, picking on the small, nerdy, highschool student. Everything from her head, to her shoulders, to her back, to her legs and feet ached.
But somehow she couldn't get her eyes to close, so she layed there silently as the sun slowly sank. Just as she felt ready to sleep a tink sound came from her window. The blonde thought nothing of it, but a few more similar sounds followed, and she groaned as she grudgingly got up and looked out the window.
As bad as she felt, a small smile appeared as she saw a familier head of blue hair. She opened the window and crossed her arms, leaning against it. "You know one of these days You're gonna throw too big of a stone and break my window. Why can't you just use the front door like a normal human?"
The bluenette gave a loud "HA" and dropped a few more stones she had in her grip, striding over and climbing up the side of the house somehow, smiling as she came face to face with peridot. "What fun would that be? Isn't this more Romantic than a stupid doorbell?" She gave a goofy grin and peridot rolled her eyes.
"You're so cheesy, lapis. I thought you'd be at class about now?" She raised a brow to the collage freshman, a little envious of the slightly older girl.
"My professor canceled. And I figured why not come see my love?" She leaned forward in an attempt at a kiss, but peridot huffed and reared back, laughing. "Oh no, cheesball. No overly romantic smooches for you."
Lapis shrugged casually. "Fair enough. Are you atleast gonna let me in though? I'd love to say my love for you is strong enough to allow me to stay in my position, but unfortunately the power of love doesn't transfer to muscles." She moved one hand up to grip the windowsill, but looked at peridot for confirmation it was okay.
The blonde sighed and moved back, getting reminded of how absolutely destroyed she felt. "Come in then, Romeo." She moved and fell onto her back on the bed, as lapis climbed in and shut the window behind her. "What's up with my Juliet then? You okay?" Her voice started jokey, but it got a bit more concerned at the shrunken figure laying on the bed.
Peridot hummed unamused. "I've had a very shit day. I would tell you about it but there's just too much. And I have a bit of a headache." She rubbed her temples, breathing deeply. "I am happy to see you though... I'm glad you're here."
Lapis smiled warmly and crawled into the bed, lifting her girlfriend up and laying her head on her lap. "Well I'm gonna play with your hair until you go to sleep, like a good girlfriend." Peridot laughed but gave a pleased sigh as lapis began lightly running her fingers through her hair.
Despite the slightly cold weather outside, lapis was warm, and peridot quickly relaxed. She felt lapis press a warm kiss to her for head, before contenuing. "You can sleep if you want. I promise I'll still be here when you wakeup."
But peridot couldn't quite sleep with lapis here. "Nah... but don't you dare stop." She growled, causing lapis to chuckle and adjust herself a bit. "I wouldn't dare~. But I could also give you a massage instead~" she giggled, moving one hand to gently squeeze the blondes shoulder.
Peridot huffed, but sat up and slid her shirt off, before rolling and laying on her stomach. "Yes please." Lapis smiled and obeyed, massaging her worn out girlfriends shoulders. She leaned down and planted light kisses across her back, making the blonde giggle. "Lapis stop that tickles!"
"Good! I want you to giggle. I want you to be happy." She moved up and lightly kissed her cheek, her hands slowing down. "I hate to see you in a bad mood." Peridot smiled and turned a bit to pull lapis in for a quick kiss, and pressing their foreheads together. "You are freakishly good at cheering me up. Thank you..."
Lapis scooted closer and pressed their lips together again sweetly, and moved her hand around to lightly play with the back of her hair. "My pleasure, darling." Peridot giggled again and snuggled into the bluenette, sighing happily.
"I guess not everything was bad."

Lapidot Anniversary Week D3
“Love Thy Neighbor”
The perks of living in a refurbished barn in the middle of nowhere? Lots of serene quiet, an ideal atmosphere for making art, and homophobic neighbors to one-up with your completely, utterly, 100% platonic roommate.
Words: 3,481
Tags: romance/ mutual crushing/ homophobia/ human au/ gay pride/ artist!au/ music!au/ they each have a crush on the other and it's a grand gay old time
(my contribution for day three’s human au prompt !! and yes, this was preexisting cause i was lazy today and didn’t do a painting) @jenhedgehog @lapidot-anniversary-week
Lapis moved the curtain aside to peek out the window. She did a double take, quickly pushing the light fabric all the way aside to get a better view.
“Oh my god,” she muttered, then louder: “Peridot, come look at this shit.”
There was a note from the other room, the sullen twang of a B flat, a hollow, vaguely discordant thump that sounded like a guitar being put down not as gently as it should have. Another sound, one of their chairs being scraped back, and Peridot came over.
“Sorry – was I interrupting?” Lapis asked, and she shook her head grumpily.
Lapis suppressed a shiver as Peridot slipped under her arm to look out the window.
“It’s fine. I wasn’t getting anything done anyway.”
She could feel the younger girl’s body heat radiating through her light summer clothes, the top of her hijab barely brushing Lapis’s shoulder.
“So what’s outside besides the usual trees, grass and –“ Peridot stopped, her mouth dropping open. “Jesus Christ.”
“Yeah, pretty much,” Lapis agreed, dropping her voice to a dramatic whisper. “Although it may not befit you to take the Lord’s name in vain.”
Peridot snorted, elbowing Lapis in the side. She shook her head slowly as she continued to look outside at the house next door, which had been decorated apparently overnight with no less than seven oversized American flags, a large cross, and a wooden sign that proclaimed God Bless America!
“I always knew our neighbors were wacked,” Lapis said, stepping away from the window. The butterflies in her stomach subsided, though she told herself it was the absence of Christian patriotism being shoved in her face rather than close proximity to Peridot and her warmth.
“I mean, we’re two reclusive art students living in a barely remodeled barn, Laz,” Peridot said with a grin. “They probably think the same thing about us.”
She let the curtain fall back into place and went back into the two mismatched couches they called the sitting area, picking up her guitar and letting a couple notes vibrate through the air. She extended one short leg onto the crate-turned-coffee-table and leaned her head back, emitting a sigh of frustration so heavy it was nearly palpable.
“You need a break,” Lapis said. “Wanna come to the farmer’s market so we actually have something for dinner tonight?”
“Why not,” Peridot said after a moment of hesitation, leaning all the way over the back of the couch and smiling upside down. Her glasses nearly fell off as she straightened with nervous energy and hopped off the couch.
Lapis grabbed her backpack from the table and rummaged around inside, fishing out a few crumpled bills and a handful of change. Peridot came down from the loft a few minutes later with a similar yield.
“Twelve seventy-eight,” she said. Lapis grinned and held out her hand.
“Twenty-six fifty,” she said triumphantly, and Peridot whooped.
“Gourmet tonight,” she said, opening the front door and letting Peridot out first, “I’m thinking fresh pesto and –“
They collided as Peridot stopped abruptly, and Lapis swore as she nearly bowled her over.
“What –“ she began, and then Peridot bent to pick up a sheet of paper from their front step. Her eyes scanned it quickly and she handed it to Lapis, incredulous.
“Add to the burn pile, I guess,” she said, eyebrows raised as she headed for the car.
HAVE YOU BEEN SAVED? the paper bellowed, and Lapis allowed for a hearty eye roll before she continued to read. Most are unaware they are living in sin. However, it is not too late! The New Testament proclaims that everyone can be saved if they confess, repent, and believe – despite falling prey to sins such as thievery, copulation out of wedlock, homosexuality
Lapis crumpled the paper in her fist, scowling, and threw it vehemently in the direction of the house next door.
She got into the driver’s seat, slamming the door a bit harder than necessary, her cheeks flushed. Peridot, seatbelt already buckled conscientiously, looked over.
“Do you mind if we make a stop at the paint store on the way home?” Lapis asked. An idea was starting, familiar inspiration blooming in the forefront of her mind. “I have some stuff I need to get.”
* * * * *
The next morning, Lapis was up at dawn. She dressed quickly and headed outside, her bag of brushes and paint heavy on her arm. She had gotten seven sample-sized colors of housepaint for free, and she knew exactly how she was going to use them.
She hummed as she pried open the metal lids with a paint-splattered screwdriver. She and Peridot had talked about repainting the barn since they moved in, and Lapis had always hated the drab gray that was peeling off the outside wall like long strips of elephant skin. She had been out with a ladder, an old toilet brush and a hose last night, scrubbing away the dirt and loose old paint to prepare the wall for new.
By the time Peridot had woken up, gotten ready, realized Lapis was gone, and come outside to look for her, her work was done. With her hands on her hips and her back to their neighbor’s house, she stood and admired the seven stripes of color that radiated off the side of their barn. Peridot joined her, mouth agape.
“You painted a twelve foot pride flag on the side of our house because our neighbors left a stupid flyer on our stoop?”
Lapis nodded, unable to contain her grin. She wiped a smear of blue paint from her hand to her leg.
Peridot’s serious facade broke, and she cackled, holding her sides and wiping at the corner of her eye.
“They’re going to be so pissed,” she gasped eventually, patting Lapis lightly on the back several times, warm and sweet and congratulatory in the sun.
“That’s the idea,” Lapis said, something in her chest glowing. “Let’s go have breakfast, I’m starved.”
* * * * *
For two days they waited for a response, peeking out the windows every few hours. Bored, Lapis used the rest of the robin-egg blue housepaint to repaint a wall on her side of the loft, and Peridot whined about the fumes until Lapis mixed a pale purple and drove her outside by deciding to do a wall downstairs as well. She opened all the windows and laughed as she listened to Peridot strum her guitar, alternating between mournful minor chords and an angry blues riff that always ended with the accompanying lyrics fuck you, oh-ohhh Lazuli, fuck yoo-ouu.
That evening, she went outside with purple paint under her nails and two sandwiches on a tray. She sat next to Peridot on their scratchy little back lawn, admiring how the last of the sunset looked coming through the tall weeping beech that watched over the black-eyed Susans in the corner. Cicadas sang in monotone at the few dozen fireflies beginning to stitch through the dark abovegrass.
“Oh! Wow, thanks,” Peridot said, picking up her sandwich and humming appreciatively as she bit into it.
“You should eat more,” Lapis said without thinking, knowing how easy it was to forget food when immersed in painting or sculpting. She hoped it was the same for Peridot’s music and that the younger girl wasn’t neglecting to eat on purpose.
Peridot shrugged it off, her mouth full. Then she swallowed like she had forgotten something, her eyes wide.
“I forgot to tell you! Look what they put up over there, it’s fucking terrifying.”
Lapis stood up and shaded her eyes, looking at the neighbor’s house. Her mouth fell open.
There was a life-sized scarecrow decorated in painstaking detail to look like Uncle Sam, painted face accurate down to the bushy white eyebrows. It pointed menacingly in their direction, a red-white-and-blue top hat perched on its head. Yet another flag hung from an outstretched arm.
Peridot was laughing silently when Lapis sat back down, wide-eyed and shaking her head slowly. She opened her mouth, but then just took a bite of sandwich, at a loss for words.
“You know what this calls for, right?” Peridot asked, her eyes glittering. Lapis looked over and couldn’t help smiling at the four feet eleven inches of energy practically vibrating by her side.
“Retaliation.”
* * * * *
The next day Lapis woke up to something horrible poking repetitively at her ribs. She shoved the offending sensation away. It persisted, and she groaned, rolling over and cocooning herself in blankets.
“Lazuli,” a soft whisper, then louder, “Lazuli!”
She sat bolt upright so suddenly that Peridot squeaked in alarm, jerking backwards and blinking innocently behind her round glasses.
“Iss still dark ou’,” Lapis slurred irritably, glaring through squinted eyes in the lavender-tinted predawn light that crept shyly through the window. Peridot nodded.
“I know, I have to get outside before the neighbors go to work so that they’re guaranteed to hear me, and I thought I could use a little extra time to ensure the plan goes off flawlessly –“
Lapis laid a finger imprecisely over her lips in a shushing motion. The blanket slipped down a bit, and Lapis hiked it back up, feeling the cool air prickle her bare skin. Peridot stopped talking abruptly. Lapis couldn’t tell in the barely-there light, but she thought she saw a dark flush of color, flaming cheeks.
“Get to the point?” Lapis asked, less cuttingly than she wanted, and her heart was racing so damn hard at the feeling of Peridot’s soft and slightly chapped lips on her finger that she was certain she wouldn’t be able to sleep again.
Peridot grinned and pulled away from Lapis’s hand.
“What are the gayest songs you know?” she asked. Lapis blinked for a moment.
“Power of Two by Indigo Girls, She by Dodie Clark, Jenny by the Studio Killers,” Lapis rattled off, then smiled a little as Peridot blinked in bemusement. “Why’d you ask me if you thought you wouldn’t get results?”
Peridot shook her head silently and left. Her head stopped level with the floor as she descended the ladder, and she added a small, “Wow, thanks!” before disappearing below the edge of the loft.
Lapis sagged back into the nest of her bed. She touched her finger with her other hand, gently rubbing the spot where Peridot’s lips had been – the spot that, for some elusive reason, seemed to burn.
She knew it would be useless to try and get back to sleep, but she lay in bed for a while longer anyway before Peridot’s soft music drifted through the walls of the barn. She got up, pulled on a shirt, and went outside.
Peridot was leaning against the wall of the barn underneath the enormous pride flag, strumming her guitar and looking at tablature on her phone. The sun was coming up, painting everything with a strangely delicate new light, rose-toned and downy gold.
Peridot saw her and stopped humming under her breath.
“Lapis! Here, this is in perfect conjunction with my plan – quick, sit down, he’ll be coming out here any minute –“
Lapis sat next to Peridot in the dew-sweet grass, shivering as the seat of her boxers soaked up the dampness with brutal efficiency. Peridot glanced up.
“Cozy up, we have to put on a good show,” she said, and Lapis felt warmth blossom down her whole side as Peridot pressed against her. She sighed in sleepy contentment, her mouth opening in a jaw-cracking yawn.
“So wha – aaah – what’s this… retaliation of yours?” Lapis asked. Her head drooped, and it seemed too much effort to raise it again. Peridot repositioned her shoulder so she could still play with Lapis’s head cradled by her neck.
“I sit out here and demonstrate proof of my blatant protest of their homophobia by playing gay songs under our enormous pride flag. The message would have been sufficiently clear with me on my own, hence the plan, but your presence adds yet another layer of sapphic imagery.”
Lapis smiled a little at the proud explanation. She was always a sucker for sapphic imagery.
“Well-planned and meaningful composition,” she said through another yawn, “thought that was my job.”
“You already did your job with the flag, painter,” Peridot said smugly, strumming a few chords, the notes harmonious as dewdrops in the fresh air. “Now sit there and look gay.”
Lapis snorted. Her eyes slipped closed.
“Can do,” she thought she muttered, but she couldn’t be sure – everything was a bit dreamlike, a faded impressionist landscape of greens and sunrise hues, blurred through the squint of her eyelashes. Almost chalky with pastel strokes and colors. Peridot’s bare shoulder blushed warm under her sleep-soft cheek.
It could have been hours later when Lapis first started to wake, surfacing from some emerald-weeded and waterlilied pond jeweled by music she couldn’t differentiate from a dream. She was slowly aware of being curled against something warm and small, and of the song filtering down through the sunlit water of her consciousness – a voice that Lapis rarely heard, less nasal than spoken word and much huskier than expected from such a tiny girl.
She opened her eyes and was confronted by Peridot’s shoulder, the golden-brown expanse of her skin under the slim smile of her tank top strap. The song was barely audible over the sigh of the wind, but some lyrics got through.
though she came from the sea
her smile’s not for me
a moonshell girl, translucent pearl
my Lapis Lazuli.
Lapis tried to isolate the lurch in her chest but shifted by accident, her face slipping abruptly and her heart beating hummingbird fast.
The guitar and Peridot’s voice cut off with equal suddenness, and Lapis felt her move. A poorly disguised note of panic, though she kept her voice quiet.
“I – Lapis! Are you awake?”
Lapis pretended to stretch with a sonorous movement, as if she were escaping the syrup of sleep, and she must have done a moderately convincing job. Peridot relaxed as she hummed a noncommittally drowsy answer, straightening slowly against the wall. She faked a yawn and wiggled her toes in the grass in front of her, finally looking over at Peridot with a simulated tiredness.
“Aaah shit – how long did I sleep? Did I miss him?” she murmured, pointing her chin at the neighbor’s house.
Peridot looked relieved.
“Only by about an hour,” she said scornfully. “You’ll be pleased to know he reacted quite well to my ballads – other than his face bearing a striking resemblance to a pitted prune once he figured out my lyrics, there appeared to be no negative changes in his attitude.”
Lapis snorted.
“No pitchforks, no torches, no village mob screaming to burn us?” she asked, and Peridot shook her head.
“You can afford to joke, but we’re lucky,” she said darkly.
“Oh, lighten up, Miss Gloom-and-Doom,” Lapis said, resisting the impulse to kiss Peridot’s cheek - where in the blazing hell had that come from? - before she stood up, trying to hide her furious blush. “I can’t wait to see how they’ll top this one.”
* * * * *
The revenge was quick to come in the form of an obnoxious sign, proudly pegged into the center of the neighbor’s lawn – God Hates Gays & Liars.
“Whatever that means,” Peridot had said contemptuously when she saw it. Lapis loathed that sign, and now a hot little worm of anger burned whenever she looked out the window.
It took her four days to sculpt three detailed statues, each about eight inches high, and each depicting a different pair of women embracing in various positions, their nudity artfully displayed and accentuated with long, flowing lines of languorous motion. Peridot blushed heavily when she saw them.
“Wow – I mean, those are gorgeous, but, uh, pretty explicit, Laz,” she said when Lapis emerged, smelling baked by the kiln and her fingernails crusted with brown-red clay.
“I know. This should, ah, grant them a new perspective on what they’re protesting with all their righteous god-squad fuckery,” Lapis said, carefully gathering her sculptures.
“Wait – what do you mean? These aren’t for around the house, or gallery pieces? You’re not selling them?” Peridot questioned anxiously, following Lapis as she made a beeline for the front door.
“Oh, no,” Lapis assured her with a manic brightness in her eyes, “these are going straight on our garden wall. Those assholes will get a very personalized gallery viewing.”
She marched out the door, Peridot spluttering in her wake, and set the statues facing their neighbors on the low stone wall that divided their two properties.
The next day, the other house planted two beds of bright, unnatural-looking red-white-and-blue flowers around their sign and around their scarecrow. Peridot, her mouth twisted in unspoken distaste, set large pots of tall foxglove and marigold on the wall between the statues, partially blocking the view.
Nearly a week passed without retaliation, and Lapis had begun to relax until she went out to water Peridot’s flowers one morning. The watering can toppled from her hand.
One of her statues had been smashed, a thousand shards of clay scattered along the top of the wall. Some larger fragments had fallen to the ground, and Lapis recognized smooth brown limbs she had spent hours creating, a leg here, an arm there. Shaking with anger, she picked up the sign that had replaced the statue.
Love is Love, But God’s Law is God’s Law. Keep Marriage Sacred.
She clenched her teeth, a sound of furious despair leaking out of her mouth. She threw the sign violently and fell to her knees, head bowed, slowly picking up the pieces.
Peridot came out of the house, running across the lawn in fright. Lapis didn’t look up.
“Laz! Lapis! What’s wrong, are you – “ Out of breath, she spotted the ruined statue and the sign. She slowed to a stop, and then hesitantly put her hand on Lapis’s shoulder.
After a minute, she spoke again, her voice unusually gentle.
“We can file a complaint, maybe call someone? Destruction of private property on private property has got to be – “
“It’s not about the statue!” Lapis cut her off, feeling hot tears welling behind her eyes. “I guess – it was never about the neighbors. It’s the principle of the matter. That there are still people like this, backwards-thinking stupid damn people who think it’s not okay for us to love each other – or – or that we’re broken or dirty or – wrong,” she finished, feeling Peridot’s hand drop from her shoulder. She felt a brief flare of panic – and then a small hand was in hers, pulling her upright, and then gentle fingers were under her eyes, doing their best to blot the sadness away.
“Hey, hey. Hey,” Peridot insisted, touching Lapis under the chin to make her look down. “I know. Some people are shitty sometimes, and lots of people are shitty all the time. But,” and Peridot was leaning closer, leaning upwards, and Lapis’s heart was thundering in her ears, her eyes half-closed, lashes wet and still and sooty, “you have to remember that there will always be people like us, too.”
She closed the distance between them, and Lapis had room for nothing except the music that seemed to soar from around them, rising like a sunburst in the middle of the hot summer morning. There was a chaotic, tumbling happiness too, the world feeling overwhelmingly warm and bright and wonderful. The smell of cut grass and flowers in Peridot’s hair. Lapis thought they could have stayed like that forever if she hadn’t heard the small cough from over the garden wall.
She pulled back gently and turned her head.
Their neighbor, who Lapis had never seen before now, stood in the middle of his flower bed, a harmless-looking old man in baggy jeans and a red polo shirt. His mouth was open slightly, and an obviously forgotten hose hung from one hand, pouring a stream of clear water into a patch of already saturated grass.
Lapis found herself smiling sunnily.
She pulled Peridot tight against her, lifting her up and kissing her deeply. She felt a shimmer of pride as the startled sound Peridot made initially turned into a quiet, satisfied hum. Her arms wrapped around Lapis’s shoulders. Lapis closed her eyes, gently stroking Peridot’s back, and let herself be absorbed in bliss until she heard a series of progressively less subtle coughs, then an offended “Hmmph!” and a door slamming in the next house over.
They broke apart leisurely, Peridot grinning with the self-satisfaction of a cat as she slid back to the ground.
“We should have done that a long time ago,” she said breathlessly, her arms still around Lapis’s waist.
Lapis nodded and kissed Peridot’s cheek. Finally. It was warm and smooth.
“Can you help me take these statues in?” Lapis asked with a smile, touching the warm blush of freckles on Peridot’s face as she nodded. “I don’t think we need to worry about the neighbors anymore.”

Anniversary
This is a gift for one of the best writers I’ve met, made by me and @aphrodite-goddess-of-fluff; Lilly, you deserve the best... Lilly, Thank you for a year with this characters, for give us the chance to meet us, for... evertything @su-mafia-yandere-lapidot-au-blog
She let out a tiny gasp as she felt her cheeks start burning once again, Lapis shortly closing the distance between them as she began placing kisses and nibbles all the way down her throat. The blonde couldn’t help the whimper that left her lips, her breathing becoming erratic as she closed her eyes and tangled her now released hands in soft blue locks.
The blonde’s fingers curling in pleasure, tugging the blue hair a little. Breathing becoming nothing but a moan the moment she feels a vacuum of plump lips against her throat, Peridot knew that if she turned on the lights she could see how her skin was becoming darker and darker under the teeth of the mafia leader.
Suddenly everything stopped as Lapis’ hand came to her hips, touching the little skin the clothes left uncovered, a sweet kiss completely different to what it was seconds ago was left on her lips, “Can I keep going?”, honey sweetness dripping from every word as her whole body just stops, a soft slim smile in her lips as the blue eyes focus on the pale skin of her face.
“You ask?” The blonde said, her hands finding the way into the neck of her lover, tenderly pressing her against her skin, noses colliding as she nuzzles the best she can, “I want nothing more than this... “
“I love you.” The whisper is still sweet as they kissed once again, just slow and steady, conveying in actions what has been said over and over and even more than that, showing how much Lapis cares about Peridot, because she’s her angel, she’s the reason her heart beats over and over again, second by second, she gave her a meaning to the word love, she gave her a meaning on the word family, she gave a new meaning to Pearl and Garnet, to Amethyst and Jasper, to Rose and even Steven, Lapis kissed her but not, because she was also kissing the goddess that brought everything back, the perfect girl hiding in one nook of the city, behind a rusty iron door just to fix Lapis’ car and in the process, mend her heart, to let Crystal rot away and her be free, Lapis kisses her like it’s tomorrow, like they are in front of a church, Lapis kiss her like she loves her, because we all know she does.
And Peridot returns the tender kiss, because that’s everything she cares about, that’s everything she desires and that’s everything that she wants, because she’s in love with Lapis Lazuli and no one is going to take that away, because after the hardships and the fights, the long weeks without her and the days where she didn’t leave her side there was something in the bottom of her heart, undying love for the mafia leader, even when she got afraid at first, the blue haired girl won her heart bit by bit, piece by piece, like making a really hard puzzle, one after the other until everything that was left behind was someone that just wished to be with her, that fell in love with the most beautiful girl she had even encountered.
A whisper breaks the air when the lungs burn and both of them are panting into the air, “It’s your night, that’s why I’m asking.” The bluenette whisper slowly, seductively and most importantly, lovely.
“My Queen.” Peridot bows her head hiding once again in Lapis’ neck, “I want you now.”
And Lapis gives, because that’s everything she wants to do, Lapis touch her cold skin with shaky fingers, trembling because the blonde is a temple, sacred and pure and she can’t risk desecrate such holiness with her touch, Lazuli’s fingers keep shivering because she dreamt of this moment for so long and she still feels unworthy of doing it. While she takes the top and faces a naked chest, the blue haired mafia leader prays to the unnamed god the possibility of being there and doing this, when she latches into the hard nipples and sucks, she thanks the skies for letting her hear an angel moan, and when Peridot’s fingers come so close, pressing her against the skin, she begs the world never stopping this, she begs anything and everything the chance of doing it tomorrow and then after that more times in her life, everytime her little princess asks it of her.
But a jerk against her knee is everything she needs to continue, hands fastly undoing the shorter girl’s pants and touching the bare skin, not a motion wasted as she doesn’t tease the girl asking for it, but she just touches, one finger over her slit, prodding a little and finding a had nub, pressing it with her thumb and waiting for the reaction, whole body shaking over and over as Peridot comes oh so close to climax, but she knows that Lapis is a cruel lover and she’s ready to clench her teeths when Lapis stops.
Because she knows that wet kisses start to roll down from her chest, one and then another, then the third one letting the forth come, until her breath is lining up with the inviting wet core and Peridot has to stop herself from jerking against her face, because that would be rude and certainly bring upon her a punishment that in this night is not that important, because what Peridot wants from this sleepover is not sleep, but now she just wants to feel her so close, so glued to her that it hurts, because Peridot wants to feel love in each and every way, and she knows Lapis Lazuli will give it to her.
A tongue running one single strip, tortuous but loving, over her, before she starts to dig in, the blonde can’t control her body anymore when she spasms against the face of the mafia leader, when she tugs her hair and pulls her even deeper, when the walls inside her tremble in pleasure and her voice breaks in a scream with someone's name, but that doesn’t matter because Lapis Lazuli is giving, she’s licking all the right places, her tongue is going inside and out and she can feel her hot breath cold against the needy skin, she can feel how her nose touches lightly her clit and she can only beg between moans for more contact.
Lapis knows that, Lapis of course does, because this is a dance well practiced, this is something they have both done so many times but that doesn’t mean that this is something old for them. Each time different, more inviting, more private, more pleasurable, each time slower or faster, but each time with the same love they always show. Lapis knows that Peridot needs her elsewhere and she’ll be damned before she won’t give, at the end, what her beautiful goddess needs the most.
And Lapis curls her lips between the hard, swelling and thumbing nub and sucks and Peridot is transported elsewhere, eyes rolling behind her head as she moans even more loudly, screaming Lapis’ name as she feels two fingers going inside her, and she continues repeating the name over and over again, like a mantra, like a prayer, that’s Lapis’ effect in her, making her a religious girl for an unnamed cult, because when she finishes, jerking against the tanned skin and lifting her whole body in the ecstasy and flurry of emotions, the only thing she can do is thanks the fate for bringing Lapis into her doorstep long ago.
And she falls into the bed, shining in the afterglow as she feels a hot body covering her, as she finds lovely blue eyes locking with hers and as she receives a kiss with her own taste, chaste and slow, full of love and care.
Her chest is rising and falling as she tries to catch herself, Peri is undoubtedly exhausted from the rush she just experienced but wants something else for this night and she won’t stop until she gets it.
Peridot pushes Lapis with the last of her strength and pins her into the bed, letting her whole body fall and her lips lining up with a hair covered ear.
“I want you to scream my name.” Peridot whispers with all the seduction she can muster.
And Lapis grows wet as she swallows loudly.
She had known her little Peri for a very long time now, she couldn’t stand a day apart from her because her heart would ache with longing for the blonde goddess in a sea of melancholy. That naturally resulted in her spending as much time as she could with Peridot, because she was the greatest blessing in her life, the reason she had a life. But all that time spent together meant she got to see other facets of the blonde, and as it turned out her precious Peri-baby had secret wicked side nobody had the right to find out but the one and only blue haired girl Peridot trusted so much. And because of that trust, they could do things like this, just the two of them enjoying each other completely, mind, body and soul. Right now though, they would focus on the body.
Or at least that’s what the nibbles and kisses up and down her neck are saying.
Lapis comes back from her train of thought as the blonde puts more pressure on her bites, her little but sharp teeth sinking on the perfectly tanned skin. That incites a moan from the bluenette, her neck was proving to be sensitive more often than not and tonight is no different.
She can feel her breath starting to fasten as small hands take the hem of her shirt and start tugging, asking for permission. The blue haired girl gives a wordless nod, mostly because she can muster a word when Peridot is looking at her like that, those shiny green orbs beaming with want and an expression that can only mean mine. The shirt hits the floor in a beat as the Greek girl throws it carelessly behind her, along with the shorts that completed the outfit. Let’s not forget, the ever so naughty Lapis Lazuli hadn’t put on panties that morning meaning Peridot is free to get right to work.
However it is obvious the blonde isn’t quite ready for that and prefers taking her sweet time on sucking on Lapis’ chest. She trails her tongue over her nipples, taking great delight in the way the bluenette arches her back and pants as she hums on one of them and the other is between her forefinger and thumb. By twisting and pinching it slightly she makes Lapis squirm under her, she tries to muffle the sound with one hand but Peri still has her pinned to the bed, both hands over her head in a light but firm hold that doesn’t seem like ever letting go.
Eventually she does, but only so she can travel down her way to the area that needed more attention than any other. She kisses her sweetly on the lips once before going back down, and before either of them knows it she is already with her head between Lapis’ highs. Her little chubby hands are holding her firmly by the hips, she takes in the view and basks in her scent. Finally, she feels the other shiver as she gives a long, slow lick between her folds.
Lapis moans immediately at that, she doesn’t even feel any shame at this point and she just runs her hand through her hair, just letting herself go. Meanwhile, Peridot seems to take that as a challenge as starts making a solid job of eating her out.
Her tongue stiffens as much as it cans and start attacking all of Lapis’ weak spots, first she carefully spreads the soft folds of her lover, and soon she is toying around with the little bundle of nerves she knows so well by now. She flicks her tongue against it, eliciting a sharp gasp from the bluenette, as soon as she wraps her lips around it and starts sucking it all sounds turn into incoherent pleas and begging to a nameless god mingled with renditions of Peridot’s name.
Not to mention Lapis wouldn’t stop murmuring things under her breath, whimpers and moans intercalate with praises for the blonde and strongly felt ‘I love yous’. Peridot looks up from her place, head still between her legs and lips and chin soaked with Lapis’ arousal.
Said girl almost growls when she stops but looks at her mostly with confusion, “Why did you stop?”
Peridot just smirks slightly, moving herself up slowly to her level, “Because, you are so beautiful my queen, I can’t take my eyes off you. I want to watch you.”
Without another word she presses her lips against her own, Lapis folds her arms around her neck but is still whimpering a little as in asking for at least a little friction, which thankfully for her happens pretty quickly when Peridot pushes two fingers into her core.
Lapis pulls back from the kiss to let out a loud cry that drowns out into a relieved moan, the panting and moaning return as Peridot goes back to nibbling her neck and sucking afterwards, leaving a trail of soon to be hickeys all over her skin. She is alternating between scissoring gently and thrusting in and out of her dripping heat, soon she is stretched open enough for a third finger to join in, and with the way Peridot is going at her breasts so shamelessly rough she can tell she was about to come. She just needs a little push, just a little more…
Sensing this, Peridot pauses on the assault on her chest and whispers in her ear, “Cum for me, your highness.”
And that’s all it takes for Lapis to arch her back and cum with a broken scream of “PERIDOT!”, waves of pleasure flood her senses as her eyes see white on the edges, the coil in her gut came undone and electric shocks go crazy up and down her spine. She rides her orgasm for a blissful moment, Peridot helps her all the way by slowing down the thrusting but keeping her thumb on her clit.
She comes down from her high eventually, and as soon as she’s not too dizzy to think she sees her lover’s warm eyes gazing at her lovingly. She sighs in the most pleased kind of way as she wraps her arms around her, bringing her close for sweaty cuddles.
“I love you.” She whispers, so softly, so gently so, as if she was trying to caress the beautiful being lying on top of her, but still trying to convey all the strength of the love she feels for her.
Apparently it is good enough for the blonde, because she is looking back at her with such adoration she can feel warmth coming out of those captivating eyes that made her fall so long ago.
“I love you too.” Peridot says back, her head moves a little closer so just she can capture the bluenette’s lips in one last chaste kiss. At least for tonight. She knew that was the same set of lips she would kiss every day, for the rest of her life, and she was more than happy with that. She buries her face in the other’s chest, nuzzling slightly and almost purring at the hand petting her fluffy -now very messy- blonde hair.
They both close their eyes, warm bodies press together in the safe solitude of their home. The last thing Lapis remembers before blacking out is Peridot’s soft breathing, and the last thing Peridot remembers is her girlfriend’s sweet scent.
The warm yellow light of a morning sun greets the tanned skin, bathing her in warm affection.
Peridot can feel the sun covering her with a light atmosphere, but she prefers to think those are Lapis’ arms, cradling her to sleep.
The next morning she realized that for a sleepover, they had barely slept at all that night.

Trick or Treat!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN GUYS! here’s my quick and last contribution for lapidot halloween week! it’s been another good week with great lapidot art, fics, etc. and I can’t wait to do this again and write a bunch of more works.
@lapidot-week
Day 7 Prompt: Halloween
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/12579224
Words: 2.8K
Halloween night was flourishing and ready for its revelries. Beach city would be concealed in spooky decorations by now, and possibly a couple of children, including gems for this night, are preparing for the ritual of trick-or-treating.
Steven had already invited Connie over to the temple for Halloween since they have been planning this all month. The young quartz was dressed as one of his favorite fictional characters Lonely Blade for this night. And as for his best friend, she was one of the doctors from a show she once watched called Under the Knife. Their costumes were handcrafted and rather imprecise, specifically Steven’s kimono and cardboard sword as well as Connie’s grisly medical uniform, but not all homemade costumes had to be perfect. They had ghastly themed satchels with them that were ready for them to be filled with all kinds of sweets. The two buds gaped at each other with feverish grins and guaranteed themselves that they were going to have a heck of a night, knocking on people’s doors dressed as fictional personas and getting candy for it. It was going to be fun! And it was their first Halloween, too. All they had to do was leave the living room as they were literally right by the temple’s door.
“So, are you ready for a night of thrills and confections Steven?” Connie asks him.
“Yup! It’s just going to be you, me, and…I guess a whole Halloween night ahead of us?” Steven replies unassured.
He hummed and contemplated for just a second. One thing for sure was that the whole party of two was all set, but Steven couldn’t help to feel that there needed to be more amity, more company to join them to share their delight with. It would just be more exciting that way.
“Hmm…I don’t know, Connie. Do you think we should have more people coming with us?” Steven asks this time.
“Well, I guess that would be okay. But who else do we know would be free tonight and join us in the last minute?” Connie replies also inquired.
“The gems wanted to watch over us but they had to go on another mission today so…” and that’s when it hit him. “OHH WAIT. I think I know the perfect bunch who would gladly want to trick or treat. That is until we could teach them about what it is though.”
Connie knew exactly who he was talking about. “Oh I see. We’re definitely taking them.” She says poised. “Come on, let’s go warp to them and hope they aren’t busy!”
“Yeah!”
So they decided they were quickly going to head to the barn and have their two other best friends join them for Halloween night. They warped to the now frigid countryside and showed up to the barn unparalleled but beaming. “Lapis! Peridot!” they called out. The barn residence was also elated to see the two kids visiting, gasping when they spotted them and coming down the truck balcony to meet their guests. “Steven! Connie!” they also exclaim together. It was a blissful meetup, all good to see each other feeling obliged and inquisitive.
“So uh, Steven, what’s with you and Connie’s attire?” Peridot inquires.
“Oh, this is my Lonely Blade costume for Halloween!” Steven replies.
“And I’m supposed to be a doctor.” Connie also answers. “Steven and I are going trick-or-treating tonight and we were going to ask you, Lapis and Pumpkin if you wanted to join us.”
The two gems were intrigued. Peridot was sure that she has seen or heard of this outing somewhere before. And obviously it had to be somewhere in the internet, but she could be thinking of something like an anime convention which is completely different. Lapis on the other hand had been familiarized with Halloween before. She remembered secretly watching an episode of Camp Pining Hearts that Peridot forgot to watch where the background was set for ‘halloween’. And throughout that episode and the characters’ acting in it, she could give a hint on what trick-or-treating sort of was.
“You mean you and Steven are going out to take candy from people with those clothes on?” the blue gem assumes.
“Yeah. Something like that.” Connie replies.
“It’s going to be our first time but we’re a little low on groups.” Steven says. “We just want to know if you guys are free for a night filled with sweets. I even got spare pillowcases for you to have your own stashes of candy.”
“Hmm…Well this should be interesting!” Peridot says keenly. “We’re going to partake in this trick or treat festivity without doubt. Isn’t that right, Lapis?”
They both gawk at each other. “Wait, Peridot, I don’t think we’re allowed to go without costumes.” Lapis says. “It’s not going to work out if we just go out like this.” Another time for the green gem to contemplate. If her barn family was going to take part in this, then she had to find some last minute outfits right away. And as a matter of fact, she remembered already having some getups acquired a few months back.
“Not to worry. I happen to already to have costumes for all of us before this even started.” Peridot enlightened. Lapis was officious about what she was talking about, until she also reminisced what it was. “All of you wait here for just one second. I’m going to put on mine right now and show it to all of you.” The green gem hurried to the upstairs of the barn to find the costumes.
Lapis watches her haste with a faint grin. “Oh boy, I didn’t think she would have any use for it until now.” She utters. Pumpkin and the two guests were sticking around curious.
Peridot’s rambling could be heard a little from outside the barn. When she managed to get herself in her aforesaid costume, she excitingly got back downstairs and displayed her apparel with her arms widespread.
“Tah-dah!” she says stridently and stabs an imprinted flag on the ground. Her costume was this brunet colored outfit from her cap, jacket, and shorts that were made with ruggedly basted fabrics and cotton, much like a camper’s uniform. And to make things more clearly, the flag she was holding was just the Canadian flag painted green, and fixtures in her suit such as a necklace and sewn patches were triangular.
“Huh. You’re supposed to be…” Steven closely recognizes and gets interjected.
“That’s right! I’m Percy from Camp Pining Hearts!” Peridot professed. “I always thought I would make a good Percy in a real life, so I ordered this outfit online and use it for ‘roleplay’.”
“I tell her to stop every time she does that.” Lapis mentions.
“You’re just jealous that I’m better at impersonating than you.” The green gem says ardent, and her roommate replies by shaking her head and hazily smirking.
That was one getup down. Now it was just left with Lapis and Pumpkin. “So if Peridot already has a costume, what about you and Pumpkin?” Connie inquires.
Peridot encroaches again to say the expedient matter. “Oh that’s fine, too. I also ordered another campers outfit for Lapis so she could be my Pierre.” She says and causes Lapis to blush feebly. “And Pumpkin accidently made her a ghost costume yesterday when she chewed off tiny holes on a white sheet we had.”
“It’s perfect then!” Steven exclaims ecstatic. “We’ll just wait until they put on their costumes and head off to Beach City.” Pumpkin replies eagerly barking.
Lapis had nothing against the outfit Peridot got her, considering it was no different to her getup when she played baseball. It was rather like she had something in contrast to the texture while wearing it. “I’d rather wear the ghost costume.” She says mildly.
The blue gem took a while to put on her identical attire and stood side by side with Peridot. Pumpkin was literally blanketed with a white sheet with two peep holes so she could see. Now the group of two kids, two gems and one pumpkin was eventually prepared with elaborate costumes and eagerly ready for the Halloween night tradition. They warped back to Beach City and recalled the whole plan out. It was seven o’clock, they head to the suburbs where most residences should be ready to give out candy, and knock on doors or ring the doorbells to exclaim “TRICK OR TREAT!”
The group walked the sidewalks and seemed to be one of the only few walking in this hour. “Hey Lapis, have you ever tasted candy before?” Peridot asks her partner. “No.” she replies. “Maybe Pumpkin has though…” Pumpkin looks at them and woofs. Steven led the way to the first house that he was already familiar with. Only it was ornamented with fake spider web and jack o’ lanterns for the current occasion. Everyone was standing by the doorway and ready with their empty satchels to spew. “You guys ready?” Steven asks fruitlessly and everyone nods. He then reaches for the doorbell to impel it and hear a chime from the inside.
Grumbling was also perceived before somebody came out, seeming like the host was looking for the bowl of candy. Eventually the door opens and reveals a woman with dense gray-yellow hair and garbed with a bath robe.
“GIVE US THE SWEETS!” Peridot exclaims right away and reaching out her pillowcase.
“Peridot…” Steven gapes at her cogently and amending.
“Oh yeah wait…” she chortles awkwardly. “What I meant was…”
Altogether, the batch brought out a jubilant “Trick or Treat!”
The woman who was Vidalia chuckles delighted. “Well what do we have here…?” she asks. “Looks like a samurai, a doctor, two summer campers and a ghost dog!”
“We’re also a couple!” Peridot mentions supremely.
“Technically who we’re dressed as aren’t really a couple…” Lapis says. “But…yeah we are.”
Steven chortles and gives out his candy bag. “Looks like you’ve been busy for Halloween too, huh Vidalia?” he inquires.
“It’s just mild decorating.” She replies. “You bunch are the firsts ones to come by this door. I’d honestly be glad if you all would be the only ones I’d have to see tonight. These costumes look fantastic.”
“Thank you!” Connie says.
The first tumble of confectioneries was given to Steven and so on. “Anyways, here ya go you kids.” Vidalia takes a handful of assorted candy and spills them into their sachets one by one. “It’s just candy corn and mini chocolates but they’re edible once you eat a whole bunch.”
They ambled off the doorway once their sweets have been received. “Happy Halloween!” Steven farewells to Vidalia and sees the door shut. He stays ahead and walks beside Connie. “It’s going to be a lot better from her.” His best friend utters.
As they were walking to the next house, Pumpkin got herself inside her own candy sachet that Lapis was holding for her and tried devouring the recent candy corn they got. “Pumpkin, you’re not supposed to eat the candy until we’re finished!” Peridot seizes her and takes her out of the bag. “Ah, looks like you took off your costume too. You wouldn’t want to be trick or treating as just a sentient veggie head now would you?”
Lapis gapes at both of them. “I’ll just hold her for now.” She says and lets Peri give their child into her arms. She took out the ghost costume out of the candy sack and layered it onto her. That’s better.” The green gem says and the pumpkin pup yelps lightly.
“There are a lot of houses out here…” Lapis observes. “You think the woman back there liked out outfits?”
“I’m sure she did!” Peridot replies. “I did say that we were a couple just to emphasize our matching dynamic. We would have gotten that whole bowl if she knew the relationship of who we’re going out as tonight!”
“Definitely.” They gawked at each other and snickered.
Plenty of unversed to acquainted houses were being scouted by the minute and receiving loads and loads of confections right away. Peppermint, gum, candy bars, protein bars, and mostly a bunch of cheap candy corns were being stuffed into their sachets. It was all enough for Peridot and Lapis to try out and savor in one night. The green gem was right when she said Vidalia must have liked her and Lapis’ costumes, as the hosts who came out after countless doorbell ringing’s were charmed to see them. At least that was in her perspective anyway. Of course everyone would come to a liking with Steven, Connie, and Pumpkin’s handmade costumes too.
The half quartz also seemed pretty happy that the barn family was relishing Halloween very well. He and Connie occasionally watched them from behind, seeing them ramble about their night so far and bragging about their costumes and amounts of confectionaries. They were loud, and hard not to overlook. But they let them be and listened to their “trick or treat!” greeting get more ecstatic by every house they stop at.
An hour or two must have passed presumably. As they would think they were finishing up, sometimes the gem couple had to make their group halt since Pumpkin kept pouncing away and barking around jack o’ lanterns on people’s lawns. Lapis and Peridot roughly let go of their now filled pillowcases and the camp flag, just to chase the pumpkin dog stirringly for more than thrice. As for the other two, they hoped the whole neighborhood wouldn’t get angry at either both of them, or all of them. “You know better than to disobey your moms, Pumpkin!”
“Connie, they are hard to keep apart from each other…” Steven expresses.
“I’ve hung out with them before. I know exactly what you mean.” Connie relays.
Their last stop was by the boardwalk. A lot of the hosts there were familiar and gave a bunch of commercial sweets. Most of the time it was merely stuff they already sold instead of candy. But in due course, all of them grew tired from pacing around the Beach City precinct. They looked inside their sachets to see a satisfying extensive of teeth rotting delicacies. Thus it was time to head back to the temple.
The group huddled around the living room. “That was some good trick-or-treating guys!” Steven announces and sits down on the couch with the rest.
“I don’t think I’ve ever worn a costume for so long and get rewarded with it.” Connie says. “But I guess I should take my doctor’s coat to relax.”
“Well I’m keeping my camping uniform on.” Peridot says. “I don’t know about you guys, but after tonight I’m making this my new gem clothes from now on.”
“It looks good on you Peri, but I say just keep it in the barn once we get back.” Lapis expresses.
“Oh, okay.”
All of them grabbed their big bags candy stashes and splashed them all into their assemblies. There was a barrage of sweets and made everyone’s pupils turn into stars. And this was the part in Halloween where they could finally try a few portions of candy.
Pumpkin had a head start and buried her face within her own candy pile to feed herself. Peridot picked up a piece of cherry licorice and perceived its texture. “Hmm…Interesting feel.” She comments. “I’m kind of unsure of what it might taste like.”
“That’s cherry licorice, Peridot.” Connie says. “It’s basically supposed to taste sweet, like all candy actually.”
Lapis turns her attention to Peridot for the last time and smirks rapturously. “’Sweet’, huh?” she utters. “I think I can give me and Peridot a hint on what candy might taste like.”
Steven’s eyes widen in panic and gapes at Connie. “We should turn around…” he whispers. She figured out what was going to occur, hence she follows.
The blue gem grasps Peridot’s mien and moves a vast inch closer. As for the green gem, bafflement was already hitting her. But she let herself feel her roommate’s cordiality and notices her lips stirring closer into hers. Their caress made both of them feel fuzzy and heck, sweetness. And Lapis’ kiss was supposed to last only a second, but Peridot made it linger for 10 more. They let go, and beam softly as hooked on to their gaze. Until they realized they forgot they were in front of two kids who happened to be looking away discomfited. “Uh, sorry guys.” Lapis says also chastened. She proceeds to pick up what looked like green tinted rock candy.
Peridot went back into focusing on her licorice, only with her face flushed dark green and squirming. She bites her first confection and savors it as much as possible, and then pondering on its taste.
“……I prefer Lapis better” she says.
The blue gem chews on her first candy, too. “I prefer Peridot..”

Lapidot Week Day 4
My Lapidot week day four story, or the autumn/free propmpt
you can read it below or here on AO3
@lapidot-week
Lapis loved autumn.
It was the perfect season, just after the miserable heat and just before the unbearable cold. She loved the colors of the leaves as they began to fall from trees; bright reds and oranges that mixed together into a bright sunset. She liked being able to drink hot tea again, and she liked wearing sweaters every day for months at a time without dying of heat stroke. She loved that it was socially encouraged to dress up in costume and scare the crap out of children, and that she was not just hanging around in a cemetery because she was edgy, but because she was in the Halloween spirit.
Lapis shook her head, changing her mind, it was always fun to be in a cemetery, even if you got strange looks. Autumn was just the only time Peridot agreed to join her.
Peridot had nothing against cemeteries, she didn't believe in ghosts or feel creeped out by the idea of a bunch of dead people, but she also didn't care enough to stare at a bunch of toumbstones for hours multiple times a month. Besides, it was far too hot or cold to go much of the year, so she had no good reason to go.
But in the autumn Lapis was able to argue her way into convincing Peridot. It was cool outside, not cold or hot. It was beautiful around, so there's nothing to get bored about. And also the dog needs to go for a walk anyways, and now Lapis had said walk so she's really antsy.
So Peridot generally agreed throughout the span of October and November, before the endless cycles of snow started.
So after a quick change of clothes and grabbing of a leash, the three headed outside and down their street.
They were lucky enough to have a small cemetery in their tiny town and within ten minutes of walking with mindless conversation they arrived at the cemetery.
It was not very large in terms of number of graves, but the graves were stretched out, making it seem much bigger. Trees were scattered throughout the plot of land, their beautiful colored leaves falling to the ground and creating a world of reds and oranges. It was quiet and peaceful, and primarily void of people, the few who walked through, stopping at a grave or two before leaving. The air was slightly chilly, but a warm sweater made the temperature cozy, leaving Lapis's face flushing but the rest warm. Wind rattled the leaves, causing them too fall more quickly, scattering on the ground.
Peridot was tugged forward as Pumpkin started chasing after a stray cat, and Lapis smiled, following behind as Peridot tried to calm the excitable dog.
Lapis let herself fall behind as Peridot got her under control, and scolded her for pulling.
She walked over to the grave nearest her right, and squinted to read the engraving. She frowned slightly at its description as she made it out. It was a baby from the early 1900s who lived for just under a month. She took a little time to stare at the gravestone, before she moved on to the next sandstone grave. The last names were the same, and Lapis wondered if this women was the mother, a woman who died "of disease" in her late 30s.
Peridot began to walk over, Pumpkin walking in front of her. Lapis tried to catch up to her, both so they could walk together and to keep Peridot from seeing one more dead baby that necessary.
Peridot smiled at her as she caught up, and Pumpkin wagged her tail.
Peridot cooed at the dog as she rubbed against the pair of women, and Lapis felt her heart swell. Something about hearing Peridot baby talk to the dog made her heart soar and blood rush to her face. She smiled lovingly at Peridot as the shorter woman continued to pet the dog, scratching her ears as she spoke to her.
"I love you," Peridot cooed, rubbing Pumpkin's chest as she sat wagging her tail. Pumpkin barked back in response and Lapis thought she might die.
"Jesus fucking Christ, guys," Lapis huffed, crossing her arms and turning away, "It is illegal for you to be that damn cute in a fucking cemetery," she mumbled under her breath, walking through a row of graves as she blushed. Peridot giggled and Pumpkin barked again. The two followed behind Lapis, and Peridot contained to babble nonsense to the dog.
Lapis stopped at a particularly beautiful headstone and Pumpkin and Peridot followed. An angel statue sat next to the gravestone mournfully. Roses littered the ground around it, both new and a few days old. The death date was recent, from only a few moths back. Lapis wondered if she had seen this person laying beneath her feet before.
Peridot hummed as she took a closer look at the statue, handing Pumpkin's leash over to Lapis.
Lapis watched as Peridot traced the lines of the angel's dress, before standing back up and walking backwards, so she stood near Lapis.
"Did you know him?" She asked, voice soft.
Lapis shook her head as she stared at the name, "No," a cold breeze floated through the air, and Peridot shivered, "I might have seen him before, though,"
Peridot nodded in agreement, in a small town like theirs it was hard to not have seen everyone walking around at least once, even an old man like this, "It's beautiful," she muttered quietly.
Lapis smiled, "Yeah. I like the older ones though,"
"The sandstone ones?" Peridot asked, pointing to one of the rows of gravestones made entirely of sandstone.
Lapis nodded, "I like that they were obviously made with the available rock, even if they've corroded more. It's also cool just how long these people have been here for,"
Peridot hummed, nodding. The group walked over to the older tombstones, and took their time looking at them.
Lapis spent a lot of time at the graveyard, and she knew some of the graves well. She liked to sit in front of the stones and trace her fingers over the old carvings of dates and names. A tiny piece of history that she could access whenever she wanted.
Peridot and Pumpkin wandered most of the cemetery, while Lapis stayed in the small area of older graves. Lapis wished she could talk to the people who lived so long before her.
After a while of wandering, the sun began to set, and Peridot and Pumpkin rushed over to Lapis.
"We have to go," Peridot said as she approached Lapis.
Lapis groaned as she stood up, but reluctantly followed Peridot to the exit, staring into the horizon of brilliant colors that the sunset brought about. Peridot rambled about mountain lions and snakes as they quickly walked home, Pumpkin jumping happily along in front of them.
The walk home was brief, Peridot speed walking so as to beat the darkness, and Lapis reluctantly keeping pace. The wind became colder as the warm sun faded away, and a few stars became visible in the darkening sky. Peridot grumbled about the cold and kept a close eye on the bushes around them.
When they made it back home Lapis started making tea, and Peridot pulled blankets down from their bedroom into the living room so they could cuddle and watch Halloween movies.
When Lapis had made both of them tea, she walked over to join Peridot, placing the mugs down on the coffee table.
Lapis went to sit down next to Peridot but stopped, noticing Pumpkin laying next to Peridot.
Peridot out her hands up before Lapis could say anything, "She wanted to cuddle with us! I couldn't say no!"
Lapis rolled her eyes and shook her head, before sitting down on the other side of Peridot.
Peridot smiled at getting her way, and scooted closer to Lapis, placing her head on Lapis's shoulder. Lapis leaned into the touch, wrapping an arm around Peridot's waist, and placing a kiss on her forehead.
They watched children's Halloween movies until Peridot fell asleep, softly breathing, and drooling, onto Lapis's shoulder. Lapis turned the tv off, and placed her head atop Peridot's letting herself too fall asleep.
Lapis loved autumn, that was impossible to deny. There were so many parts of it she enjoyed, but she supposed the most sappy, yet undeniably best, part of the autumn was getting to share something she loved with her favorite person in the world.

Tricks 1!
@lapidot-week
Peridot grinned, this was perfect! She and Lapis were going to get so much candy, this was brilliant!
The short Gem had planned out a route for herself and Lapis to travel tonight, the path would maximize the amount of candy they got, not to mention the two of them had amazing ideas. Lapis could use water clones, and Peridot had planned to steal it from inattentive people. ‘Take one’, yeah right! She’d be dumping the whole bowl into her pillowcase, which was going to be on her wagon (which Lapis would guard).
Both Gems had pillowcases that Steven had given them to fill with candy. The green Gem herself had a love of sweets, her pretty roommate liked the more sour ones, that was fine though! They could divide them up, and the two of them liked to share things. “Lapis, are you ready?” She called.
“Yeah, how do I look?” The blue gem asked, looking like the angelic monster from one of Steven’s scarier games, she had even been able to shape-shift the broken stuck-in-the-skull halo it had along with tiny horns that poked through her now black hair. Steven had given her this… Goo, it smelled bad, but it had changed her hair from its electric blue to an inky black.
“Beautiful.”
Peridot herself had dressed up as a little devil. She had managed to shape-shift (after a few hours) a long, thin, black tail, her own horns (black to Lapis’ white), and had found herself now black “footie pajamas” (why had the Crystal Gems snickered when she’d told them about it?) and a large white bow-tie. Her costume fit perfectly with what she had planned.
The two of them headed out, Lapis sitting in the wagon with a large cloud of invisible water vapour behind them, Peridot was pulling it using her metal powers as she made her way down the neighbourhood.
The cloud split into multiple small versions of the Ocean Gem, each one adorable like the Gem who’d made them. Peridot turned to face Lapis, she leaned over and gave the older Gem a kiss on the cheek. “Have fun with your water, and behave. Garnet said if we get 'arrested’ again she won’t 'bail us out’ until tomorrow.” The shorter of thee two explained. Lapis gave a lazy half smile and played with her now black bangs, many people staring at the halo that jutted out from the top of her head.
Peridot snickered as she quickly made her way through the dark night, and headed up to a porch with a few children there, the adults distracted as she managed to grab at least two (tiny) handfuls of candy and run off before she was seen.
Tiny water Lapis’ ran through the streets, their creator tapping her fingers as she leaned her head back over the side, her bare feet tapping as she hummed softly to herself. Peridot poured the candy in her tiny bag into the bigger one that rested beside the pretty blue Gem. Lapis looked up at her, “You having fun Peri?” She asked, the little Gem nodded with a huge grin and danced a little on the spot, her lover ruffled her hair and leaned up to kiss her gem. “Good, go get your candy, I’ll guard it all here. Have fun pea.”
At the nickname, Peridot blushed and nodded again. “O-okay.” She murmured and shuffled her feet. Lapis liked to use that nickname for the green Gem, it flustered her beyond belief and got her all shy. “I love you.”
Lapis smirked and caressed Peridot’s warm cheek. “I love you too.”
It wasn’t long before the blonde had completely filled up the bag, the wagon had actually become harder to pull, and she had stolen at least 7 full bowls of candy. She brought them home, Lapis making her water clones disappear into vapour before letting them go.
The two excited Gems made their way back into their Barn, digging through candy and throwing the wrappers into the corner, they’d clean them up in the morning.
Lapis grinned as she nibbled on licorice and marshmallows, giggling a bit when Peridot rapidly went through 3 tiny chocolate bars. “You gonna slow down pea? You don’t wanna eat it all tonight, do you?”
Peridot shook her head, her mouth stuffed with treats. “No, but I earned dish!” Her muffled voice squawked. She swallowed and smiled as she crawled into the blue Gem’s lap. “I worked hard to get this.”
The older of the two wrapped an arm around her lover’s waist to keep her from falling off. She loved Peridot dearly, but had the slight feeling that the tiny Gem was going to be singing a much different tune about all these sweets once she was done scarfing them down. Peridot had taken lots of the peanut butter cups, they were her favourite. Lapis herself was happy with her chips and sour gummies.
“Welp, I’m gonna go to sleep, you coming?” Lapis asked, standing up and stretching, a shiver passing through her back when she did. Peridot shook her head, her lips covered in chocolate that she was licking off. Lapis shrugged. “Okay then, I love you.”
“I love you too Lapis.” Her beloved responded, munching on more candy. Lapis could sense a bit of discomfort in Peridot’s voice, maybe she was getting tired and was being fussy about sleeping again, though if that was the case Lapis couldn’t just FORCE the little Gem to go bed. She’d come around on her own if she wanted to.
The taller Gem laid down in her hammock, and drifted off to sleep.
2 hours later, the world still dark with the sun not yet risen, Lapis woke up to the sound of Peridot whimpering. “Peri…?”
The little Gem could be heard groaning, whimpering and crying in pain. Lapis hurried over to where Peridot had been, she was still with their candy, curled up on the floor clutching her stomach. “It hurts… I just wanted more candy, but I was already full, so I just had a few pieces, a-and…Oh my stars Lapis I feel so sick!” She whined, the older Gem gently scooped her up. “What are you doing?”
She carried the little Gem in her arms, and walked over to where they kept a mattress in the corner. Lapis gently placed Peridot down. “Lay flat please.” She told her, and the blonde did so. Carefully, Lapis took the clothes off of her lover, leaving her in the 'bra’ and 'panties’ that she had liked. Dark green, typical, most Gems loved their own colour. Lapis left those on, smirking a bit upon seeing Peridot blush. The blue Gem had always admired her physical form, thick hips, shapely ass and cute little breasts.
“You’re staring.” Peridot murmured, and Lapis snapped out of it. She laid a cool hand down on the younger Gem’s stomach and rubbed gently. At first Peridot had hissed in pain, before settling and purring a little, shivering with a smile (her purring got louder) when Lapis rubbed her with two hands, kissing her cheeks.
“Don’t do that again Peri, okay? I hate seeing you all upset, and it’s not like the candy’s going anywhere. It’s okay to take things slowly Peri. Now, come to bed little pea, it’s about time you got some rest.” Lapis picked her up again, and imagined from the content sigh Peridot made meant that she was happy. Lapis lowered them onto the mattress, Peridot held tightly in her arms as she wrapped a blanket around them.
Lapis would make sure to not offer Peridot any candy the next day, the only sweet thing on the green Gem’s mouth would be her.

Can the heroes save the day, or will they succumb to the forces of evil?
Steven and Connie were having a wonderful time, sitting around a roaring fire, playing music, and enjoying the feel of sand particles on their toes. Greg sat close by, strumming his guitar, while Peri and Lapis, visiting Beach City for the weekend, played their cymbals and other instruments. Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst hummed along. Steven glanced at Beach City. Bright electric lights illuminated the astronomical twilight. They were relaxing after yet another tough day. Trying to convince more peoples and nations to become part of the World Parliamentary Assembly, an institution created with the desire to unite the world together, was not easy. Lion yawned, half-sleeping at Steven’s feet with one eye open and one closed. Everyone enjoyed the tranquility, like Bismuth, off touring as an occasional drummer for Sadie’s band, Sadie Killer and the Suspects. However, it would not last.
A bright white light emanated from Lion’s mane. Rhodonite flew out and skidded across the sand, bewildering everyone. Lion's proximity to him meant that it shocked Steven most of all. Shaking, and having trouble keeping herself together, Rhodonite explained why she had come back to Earth unexpectedly:
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude…but my captain, Lars…really needs your help…the Diamonds…they have this huge fleet…and it’s trying to conquer the galaxy…please. I'm begging you.”
Still frightened enough that she almost poofed herself, Steven comforted and reassured her. What she told them about the Diamonds concerned him, as a half-human and half-Diamond person, who had reportedly “changed” the minds of the Diamonds years ago with the aid of his original guardians, Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst, his extended family (Peridot, Lapis, Bismuth, and Connie). While Earth had a lot of problems, he felt obligated to help Lars as a good friend and warrior who would fight for justice. He could not understand why the Diamonds would want to resurrect their empire. Nor he, or anyone else, were aware that the Diamonds had concocted the “plan” to consolidate their power on Homeworld.
After Steven pledged his help, Garnet and Amethyst followed suit. Pearl hesitated. She was unsure if Adora would join her. She assumed that Adora would want to explore Earth more, or meet with Carmen, Julia, and others in Japan. Peri and Lapis also wavered, hankering for the home they shared with Utena, Anthy, and Chu-Chu, in Miura, Japan. Steven accepted Lapis and Peri’s reasoning, but he did not accept Pearl's rationale, seeing it as flawed. She did not know how she would convince Adora to travel to another universe with her. Ever since Catra had teleported to Earth from Etheria a few weeks prior, emotional tensions between herself and Adora surfaced. Connie offered to show Catra around Earth while Adora and Pearl left the planet for the Nile Galaxy. Adora overheard Connie and hugged her, thanking her profusely, saying she needed a break from Catra. She then insisted they leave at once. Steven held the hands of Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Adora. Just before he entered Lion’s pink mane, Connie reported that Catra had mysteriously vanished. Steven let her grab Garnet’s hand as she entered the Lion's pink mane, ready to traverse the vast pink meadows within this Pink Dimension. He promised to aid his girlfriend, Connie, in the search for Catra on Earth after he returned. No one could realize the ugly truth. Pearl had caused Catra to go missing. She would not openly admit it for fear of hurting Adora. She had put Catra somewhere “safe” and away from Adora's prying eyes, thinking she could work out their relationship problems, without Catra's “interference.” Nothing would happen in the way she had envisioned. Once they entered the Nile Galaxy, new complications would arise, breeding mistrust between Adora and Pearl.
Steven popped out of Lars head-mane first, with a smile on his face, grasping Garnet’s hand. Amethyst, Pearl, Connie, and Adora came next, as did Garnet. Lars was relieved. On their arrival, projectiles from the adjacent enemy Gem fleet rocked the spacecraft. Their ship had taken heavy hits from the Trilliant Splitters and Destiny Destroyers which surrounded them. Somehow the ship had remained in one piece. Huffing and exasperated, Lars shook his head, staring at the new arrivals which had sprung out of his head-mane:
“About time you came! All the cannons are firing at full strength and our shields are holding…barely. We need to deal with those ships...NOW! We are sitting ducks…it’s only a matter of time before this ship turns to dust and we are killed in the vacuum of space.”
Steven nodded at Lars' grim assessment. Stepping forward, he used his pink diamond gemstone, within his belly, to create a huge pink shield around the ship. Lars and the Off Colors were grateful for the shield which protected them. Cleo, Khensu and Akila were in awe. They were amazed that someone his size could wield such power. He strained to hold the bubble in place. He could not sustain it forever. Connie looked at him worryingly, and embraced him, hoping it would give him the moral strength to go on. With Steven’s shield in place, Lars directed the Rutile Twins to steer the ship to the far side of Mayet. She yelped in response, “aye, Captain Lars! It will be done!” Turrets of the GDA's starships continued their bombardment. As the LDD moved further away from the enemy fleet, the projectiles no longer reaching the ship due to their limited range. Watching this situation, Hessonite slammed her hand on the console. She angrily stared out the window of her Trilliant Splitter, where she oversaw all the Trilliant Splitters. Not long after, she received a collect transmission from Admiral Jack, addressing her and the other officers:
“Hessonite, Crystal, and other fellow commanders, I ask you to stop assaulting the rogue Trilliant Splitter. We must conserve our firepower for a planetary invasion. The records we obtained from the digital archives on Octavianus make clear that the celestial body we are orbiting above is Mayet. It is where P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. is headquartered. Considering it is the only force opposing Octavian’s quest to take over the Nile Galaxy, he will come to the planet, I can assure you that. Furthermore, according to the records, he has an agent which sits on the P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. council, which oversees all operations of P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. Please send these orders to your underlings. Invasion begins anon. Over and out!”
While the other head honchos, understanding the adjuration they took as captains, ended the call, and prepared their forces to carry out the Admiral's order, Crystal and Hessonite stayed on the line. Both loudly grumbled about Jack’s directive.
“This is poppycock! What kind of example are we setting for our soldiers to not go after that rogue ship! Who cares about invading this planet, anyway! We should leave this galaxy to rot.”
“Sure, Hessonite. We need to maintain the chain of command. Otherwise, we will be like Steven Universe and his friends on Earth, ugh. I detest those upstarts!”
“Fine, Crystal, you are right. Even so, this rubs me the wrong way.”
“Say what you will, but Jack is a competent person in charge.”
“Again, a valid point. Let bygones be bygones. Onward!”
Back on the LDD, Steven dropped his pink bubble and collapsed to the floor, fatigued from the energy output. Lars saw this and recommended Connie ring him to the ship’s sleeping quarters so he could rest. She concurred with this assessment and agreed to remain in contact with Lars to give him any updates on Steven's condition. Meanwhile, Adora and Pearl entered the OCAC, confident they could face the enemy together. Garnet and Amethyst joined Mihos, Callie, Akila, Khensu, and Cleo on a ship Akila called BACK!, named for four people: Brian, Akila, Cleo, and Khensu. This team would arrive on Mayet's surface in order to counter the enemy’s ground assault. Cleo, Akila, Amethyst, Garnet, helped load Cleo’s Sphinx bike onto the ship. The OCAC and BACK! left, one after the other, leaving Lars, the Off Colors, Steven, and Connie, aboard.
On Mayet, the Xerxs were causing pandemonium. Students, running for their lives, struggled to fend off the incoming robots with their quasars. While some robots were destroyed, more kept coming. Professors Khalbrax V and Jurval had tried to lead their students forward but their effort had failed. Both lay in P.Y.R.A.M.I.D.’s hospital, recovering from their deep wounds. One professor, an elderly cat named Sitre, led the remaining unit in Mayet City resisting the Xerxs. Some students, like Cheval, Dennis, E'Geke-Ek'Gek, Lakshmi, Philo, and Debbie, fled in fright to the supposed safety of their dorms, while Misti and Msumaki fought alongside Sitre, as did a number of brave students. Brian and Yosira, holed up in Brian’s lab, continued formulating a strategy to defeat the robotic army. They were unaware that Kek and Khepra were both working on behalf of Octavian, each in their own way. Neither of them, both on the P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. Council, knew of the other’s involvement in Octavian’s schemes. They would find this out soon enough when Octavian disembarked in Mayet, who tried to flee his new foes.
Callie remained quiet and subdued as the BACK! began its descent. The automated anti-aircraft cannons, firing at the incoming meteors, somehow ignored their ship. Akila thought it would be smooth sailing from there. However, a shoulder-to-air missile, fired by a Gem on the ground, part of the invasion force, startled her. Smashing into the ship's left-side engine, which began intensely burning, a boom reverberated across the craft. Despite the damage, Akila expertly guided the craft to the ground, while the engine spewed a cloud of blackish smoke. Skidding across the ground, the BACK! stopped, but not before they were all thrown forward with tremendous force onto the landing ramp. Apart from Amethyst and Garnet, everyone was injured. Stinging from the pain, Cleo waddled over to her Sphinx bike. She sat in the driver’s seat, with Mihos wrapped around her neck, while Akila strapped herself in the auxiliary seat behind her. Pressing down a trigger, laser bolts screamed out the vehicle’s guns with extreme speed. The ship’s left lower side exploded, and the bike swerved outside the ship’s structure as the vehicle’s cannons sizzled. With the coast clear, Amethyst, Garnet, Callie, and Khensu crawled out, relieved to leave the ship, which they considered a death trap. Suddenly, a legion of Xerxs approached, declaring in, their distorted language, that “resistance is futile.” Aiming their gun barrels at Cleo and Akila, Cleo lurched the bike ahead, gunning the engine. One projectile hit Akila's seat, causing her to fly off the bike, and land on the ground with a thump. Spinning the bike around, she prepared a counteroffensive, while Amethyst and Garnet positioned themselves around a bruised Akila. Bringing the bike to a stop, she turned it on its side, shielding her friend, and with all the energy she had left, she hopped into the air, blasting at the Xerxs with a quasar in each hand. Not wanting to be one-upped by her crush, Callie tried to do the same but failed. She only blasted one Xerxs, while Cleo struck 20 in all with her quasars, downing each one with direct hits. Amethyst and Garnet cheered, while Khensu rolled his eyes. He saw this bravado from her in the past and did not appreciate it. As Cleo’s guns cooled off from their use in the skirmish, Callie took this chance to jump onto the auxiliary seat. Cleo scowled. She accepted Callie sitting behind her under the condition that she not do any “funny stuff.” Callie, giddy with excitement, continued to hope for an improved relationship with Cleo, even if it remained a pipe dream. Turning into a helicopter, Amethyst flew Garnet, Akila, Khensu, and Mihos to the P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. dorms, while Callie and Cleo followed in the Sphinx bike.
In space, conditions were also atrocious for the beleaguered heroes. Adora and Pearl were under fire, barely holding their own, shooting their missiles and cannons at the enemy ships. Grousing, Pearl realized they had no choice but to release the PAST, an autonomous ship Peri created for Lars and the Off Colors on Earth, formerly the Peri-Jet, which Lars told her about prior to leaving Earth to be an ambassador to other worlds. Using the tablet connected to the captain’s chair, she operated the PAST, maneuvering it through the fleet. It soon faced a squadron of Marquise Chippers piloted by Nephrites. The cannons began booming, causing the spacefighters to explode. The Nephrites were thrown into space and easily poofed from fright. When a ship was obliterated, the console would announce: “one Clod wrecked!” While she chuckled at this message, they distressed her at the same time. She could not collect the Gems of the fallen Nephrites and bubble them, so she moped. Unfortunately, with these emotional tensions, she did not notice incoming missiles heading their direction until too late. Adora screamed. Pearl swerved the ship, while Adora hung on for dear life. Her fancy flying caused most of the skyrockets to explode. However, one slipped through and struck the ship's left wing, causing it to smoke. Desperately, Pearl guided the OCAC into a hangar bay of a Trilliant Splitter. Adora used the ship’s cannons to destroy a shield preventing entry into the immense spacecraft. Without warning, the ship glided to a stop. A company of Peridots surrounded the craft and raised their Gem Guns, insisting that those inside the ship surrender themselves.
A petty officer, given the nickname of Greenie by her underlings, sneered, and giggled at the unexpected visitors. The conversation she had with her fellow Peridots puzzled Pearl and Adora to no end. They made Pearl furious with their latent hostility toward Steven.
“Who are these goofballs, tourists? They couldn’t even dodge a missile.”
“Greenie, you’re right! Those rockets would miss my craft entirely. I’d fly right past, even if only a hair’s length away, like the human hair on that chubby kid’s head!”
“You mean the vaulted Steven Universe, right? That guy is so pretentious. The Diamonds are sooo much better, I have to say.”
“I can’t agree more, my compatriot. I want to take that Diamond out of him, so he can feel like what it's like to be a human boy.”
“Yeah, I heard through the grapevine that White Diamond showed him that, but he beat her back with his pink strength…he’s a powerful adversary. I wouldn’t underestimate him.”
“Fine, fine. What do you want to do about these gumba lumbas inside the hangar?”
“Dunno, but we gotta bring ‘em to the boss, Hessonite. She will be pleased to gaze upon some prisoners…we can take 'em back to Homeworld for tribute, hehe.”
Pearl and Adora looked at each other. Some time ago, after fighting alongside one another with Carmen Sandiego against V.I.L.E., they fused together into one being with orange hair and a slender, muscular build, wearing clothes appropriate for the cold Siberian weather, and four arms, tentatively naming itself “Peadora” after Amethyst's suggested the name. They also fused two other times, first to protect Rin Asogi from voracious angels outside Tokyo, and second when working with Carmen to lock up A.C.M.E. in a prison in Antarctica. Even so, neither had the appetite to bring back Peadora. Instead, they would fight together side-by-side. While Pearl would usually summon her pearlescent spear, she picked up a spare Gem destabilizer left in the ship and put the PAST on autopilot. Adora yelled “for the honor of Greyskull!” and transformed into an eight-foot-tall warrior woman. She had a distinctive style, different from the form she embodied on Etheria. She did not have the Sword of Protection anymore, which sat in the Archives of Etheria in Mystacor managed by former Queen Angella, and where Bow’s dads, George, and Lance, worked.
Inside Pearl’s pearl, trouble was brewing. Like any other pearl, she could store objects inside her gemstone, which served as its own dimension. There were various levels, with each one managed by a different Pearl, one on the “surface” and the others down below. To move from level to level, individuals could go through the gemstones of Pearls on that level. As a whole, this dimension served as a compartmentalized databank where memories, records, objects, and more, were stored. The objects, stored on the surface level, were organized alphabetically. They included a cannon, a carp, a cauldron, a clock, a compass, a cell phone, scissors, a screwdriver, a shotgun, sunscreen, a TV set, swords, caution tape, and phone books. In the past, she even stored people, like Connie, and Gems, such as Amethyst and Garnet, inside in her Gem. In the present, the surface Pearl tried to categorize an unusual addition to the "collection," between the cat's eye gem and catsup. She attempted to pick up the athletic, nimble woman, about 17 or 18 years old, with strong sharp features, and a general catlike appearance. This woman had large blackish feline ears and wild spiked grayish brown hair. The woman resisted, grinning with her fangs, as her multi-colored eyes, pale yellow in the left, and turquoise in the right, stared down the surface Pearl. She put the claws, on each of her hands out, ready to strike if needed and get what she wanted. As this Pearl shuttered in fright, she let out a boisterous hoot.
“This is who Adora likes now? She left me…and Etheria…for someone like you? Jeez. I guess she had lower standards. Now, if you don’t get me out of this pris…place, I’m gonna rip you a new one. Whenever she takes an object from this place out of that gemstone on her head, I want to come out at the same time.”
The Pearl timidly answered, “Yesss…I’ll do that, I don’t want to be hurt.”
“I knew you would agree…look at these weapons…they are so…cool!”
Screeching, the Pearl warned her to not touch the spear. She did so anyway, wielding it artfully, then turning it around and jabbing it at the Pearl. She snickered.
“Change of plan, Peachy. As soon as big Pearl out there tries to get something from of this place, you send me out, no matter what…otherwise, you will regret it.”
The Pearl nodded. Outside the Pearl’s gemstone dimension, Pearl and Adora stood together against the Peridots. Pearl used the Gem destabilizer to poof them while Adora blasted them with her sword. Even though they were able to escape, one Peridot, prior to being poofed, fired her Gem gun at Pearl, hitting her hand. The weapon she held onto, fell out of her hand, hit the floor, and shattered into a thousand pieces. Frustrated, she realized that her spears would be the only thing that could protect her girlfriend from harm. What she beckoned shocked her so much that she froze in place, her cheeks getting a dark bluish color. Pointing a spear at Pearl’s throat, the woman turned her head toward Adora and spoke her two trademark words: “Hey, Adora.”
Adora spun around to put her eyes upon her catlike friend with a sense of disbelief.
“Catra? Why are you here? I thought you were on Earth…after you came through that portal.”
She snorted, pulling back the spear and inched closer to Adora.
“Oh, I was, prior to your girlfriend, lover, or whatever you are with her…locked me in her Gem prison. I couldn’t stand one more minute in there! You have some sort of friends. How can you like her? I don’t get it. You left Etheria…and me…for…her! Seriously?!?”
“Uh, Catra, you shouldn’t be here. It’s dangerous. I…don’t want you to get hurt. We can talk about this more, later…in better circumstances.
“Ha…you are gonna give me that excuse? I came through a portal Entrapta built, to join you, and this is how you repay me? I should go back.”
“I didn’t mean that…I never intended to hurt you…Catra!”
As Catra began to move away, a legion of Jaspers saw them and sounded the alarm. It blared the words “INTRUDER ALERT!” repeatedly, filling the hallway with an intense screeching sound. Pearl rolled her eyes. She grumbled and gave them an ultimatum to stop their bickering.
“Catra…Adora…now is not time to argue! If you keep squabbling, I’ll have to take rash action.”
Thinking Pearl was bluffing, Catra challenged and threatened her. Pearl would not put up with it. Concentrating, she used her powers to send Catra inside her gemstone yet again. Adora stared at Pearl with horror and shouted angrily.
“Why in the world would you do that! What is wrong with you? After everything, I trusted you! WHY?”
“I…wanted to protect you…If you think you can calm her down, Dor, I’ll send you inside my gem. I have some important memories…and items there, which I need protected.”
“Fine. After this is all over, we need to discuss our relationship...Stay safe, P. And…please avoid getting captured.”
“Can do, sweetie!”
Despite her seething anger toward Pearl, Adora still gave her a peck on the cheek. She transformed out of her She-Ra form and let Pearl bring her inside the gemstone dimension. When she arrived, she saw a fuming Catra, who wanted to ruin everything in an act of revenge. When her eyes met with Adora’s, she looked up with glee and began chuckling.
“We have got ourselves in quite a predicament. Did she send you to babysit me?”
Twirling her hair with a finger, Adora responded to her curt question, “Uh…not really...It was my choice to come here. I love her and I wanted to make sure you are ok. I still care about you.”
“That’s quite a choice you made…” Catra stopped in mid-speech and challenged her reasoning, “back up a second. You care about me? Why? Isn’t she your gf? What I am I to you?”
Adora pondered her questions and possible answers. She stuttered a little and began to answer calmly. “I care because you are my childhood friend…we have a shared history together. Yes, I love Pearl and we share an important bond together, but you will always mean something to me…I’m not sure how to describe it.”
Catra beamed back, while words escaped her. She grimaced and punched the Pearl, turning to Adora and saying, “I’m not doing this because I like you.” Grinning back, she whispered in Catra’s ear, asking her where she wanted to go. Thinking it over, she mouthed a few words: “I want to know why you are so close to this Pearl fellow and why you think I am special.” Even with the possible discomfort, Adora agreed in an effort to be open about her feelings and expected it would relax Catra. She also wanted Catra to realize why she felt the way she did about Pearl. She spoke to the surface Pearl, dizzy from the beating Catra had handed her.
“Ok, Pearl, let’s look at some memories!”
“Certainly. I will send you to the Memory Core. You can speak with the Pearl who calls herself "MC-Pearl," there. She'll hook you up with all the right memories. Please, don’t hurt me again!”
“P, I won’t, and I never would! I will make sure Catra doesn’t either. When we need to go back, can we go through the Pearl...on that level?”
“Why, yes! It’s all highly organized! We have gigantic pneumatic tubes which can transport you across this dimension, but I recommend going through the head Pearl at each level instead. Moving through the tubes isn't as fast as pearl-to-pearl travel.”
“Understood, P. Thanks for your help.”
“You’re welcome, fellow traveler, uh, Adora and the Catra I’ve heard so much about…”
Adora cut her off and sheepishly laughed, not wanting to say anything more about Catra. “Yeah, yeah, can we go now?”
The surface Pearl grinned and thanked them. “As the surface Pearl, I’m more than glad to offer my services…Take a deep breath and you’ll be in the Memory Core in no time.”
With a flash of white light, Adora and Catra opened their eyes. A room filled with drawers upon drawers of file cabinets, and computer monitors, allowing for easy searching of memories in front of them. While digital technology seemed to be the standard of repositories, Pearl liked the feel of card catalogs. Steven had not visited this room when he entered Pearl’s gemstone. The pathway through Pearl’s memories was different then. After that experience, Pearl used her Gem abilities to direct the Pearls inside to reorganize it and create a Memory Core for safekeeping. These efforts would all be for naught if Pearl’s gemstone cracked, as it would be game over for the memories, items, and anyone inside.
Adora cleared her throat and spoke to the MC-Pearl, which she called herself, standing for her full name, Memory Core Pearl, and serving as a commentary on her coolness:
“Hello! We’d like to watch…er observe some memories of Pearl and myself.”
The MC-Pearl smiled and replied, instantly recognizing Adora from the hours and hours of the memories stored within the core she had watched. “Certainly, Ms. Adora! I’ll pull them up for you, right away,” adding, “you are so cute in these memories. I understand why the big boss Pearl fell for you.” Adora’s face reddened, her body began to tingle, and her body began moving awkwardly. As a tear fell down her face, the MC-Pearl waved them adieu. She could retrieved the moment that their friendship began, how they flirted with each other in Mystacor, or when she was jealous of Adora for her crush on Carmen. Back then, she fled to the Strawberry Battlefield and Steven comforted her, learning how much Adora meant to her. The same could be said about the time Lapis and Peri flustered her when they talked about their relationship, Pearl's anger at Adora for drinking vodka with Mimi and Rin, and Pearl's defense of Adora from a ship piloted by Bonnie and Marcy. She did not pull up these memories. Instead, MC-Pearl picked some of Pearl and Adora’s best times together. Pearl and Catra could watch these memories but could not alter the memoryscape.
The first memory came from the time Pearl and Adora snuck away at night, walking through the Whispering Woods to a rock outcropping overlooking a lake. As Adora watched herself hold Pearl’s hands tightly, she whispered “aw” as she heard the dialog between them, while Catra rolled her eyes.
“I really admire you, Pearl, your elegance, knack for organization and order, and your inspirational talk. Bow and Glimmer are nice and all, but you are really a friend I wish I had known sooner. I wish you could stay here forever.”
"I'm glad that you like those qualities and see me as a true friend...but we barely know each other...Garnet says love is something that grows over time, not something that can just happen instantly or quickly. The same is the case for friendship."
"You are so interesting and fascinating...and I want to get to know you better...I want us to be the best of friends!"
While watching this play out, Adora cried, remembering her dismay back then, but glad that Pearl understood her feelings, bawling when she saw them cuddling. She snickered when they shouted, “Pearl and Adora together...we are Peadora united!” Catra had never seen Adora like this, and silently cheered on Adora’s new maturity. She wondered if she could have intimacy like that in her life. She became jealous, resulting in a weird fascination with the memories, wanting to see more. After the memory stopped playing, Adora slid over to Catra and popped a question. She wanted to know if Catra was still ok with this. Catra, wanting to mend the friendship, or whatever she had, with Adora, and captivated by the memories, bobbed her head, and agreed. Adora gladly communicated Catra’s assent to the MC-Pearl, who plopped them in another memory.
Unlike the last one, this took place right after she arrived on Earth and left Etheria. Adora watched as she and Pearl sat near Steven’s Beach House, enjoying the bright yellows and oranges of the Earth sunset. She could recall the emotions that flowed through her at that moment. She repeated her own words as heard them, “Isn't it beautiful, Pearl? I'm so glad to be here on this planet with you.” She cried, and cried, watching herself and Pearl squeeze each other, and enjoy an intimate moment. As the memory faded away, Catra requested a break, starting to recognize why Adora and Pearl were so close. She sighed and posed a question to Adora.
“So, you left Etheria to be with her and enjoy that gorgeous sunset? That wouldn’t be enough for me…there would have to be something more.”
Adora chuckled. “Of course, there wasn’t all of it, Catra. These memories are only snapshots of our best times together.”
Despite Catra being dismissive, Adora decided to continue, with Catra resigning herself to it. The next memory selected by MC-Pearl had special meaning. Catra and Adora were transported to a part of the memoryscape resembling the cold reaches of Siberia where the memory took place. Catra, in her orange leotard tank top and reddish-violet leggings, shivered when she stared at the snow and saw the wind whipping around. She began to get jittery when watching Pearl flirting with Adora, and their dance together. After noticing Adora's dance moves were the same ones she used at the Princess Prom, she became even more annoyed. Suddenly, a burst of intense color almost blinded her. She opened her eyes, feasting her eyes on the Pearl-Adora fusion with shock and bewilderment. Prior to moving onto another memory, she asked for clarification.
“What the heck just happened? And...Why can’t we do it?”
Adora giggled and tried to simply explain it to Catra. “It's fusion. It's when two people come together and turn into one person. We can’t do it because we don’t have Gems, but someone like Pearl or any of her friends who have gemstones in their bodies can do it. So, answering your last question, no, humanoids can’t fuse with each other, only with another Gem.”
Catra still did not get it. “So, fusion is like sex?”
Adora breathed deeply and took the question in stride. “No, no, no. It can be between people who are friends or people who love each other. There’s a lot of emotions involved in it, but it's not sex…it’s a manifestation of a relationship between two…or more…people.”
Although Adora's words made sense to her, she grumbled and worried about what memory MC-Pearl would choose for them next. Only her fascination for the memories kept her going.
Adora and Catra were whisked off to a bright, sunny location, another manifestation of the memoryscape. It was the beach near the Beach House where Steven (and the Gems) lived, after Adora’s date with Carmen in the incorrectly named Tampa Lagoon. Adora and Pearl sat together, as the ocean waves washed over the sand. Adora focused on Pearl’s words, repeating everything she said about their relationship, especially when she poured her heart out, and expressed her feelings:
“I had a realization which I had been afraid to admit because I had a fear of losing you…as you know, the last person dear to my heart, Rose, left me for a long-haired human…a feeling of loss that still resides within me…although I have recovered from it, sometimes it resurfaces in moments of pain and anguish.”
“Having said all that...there's something I need to get off my chest and state loudly...and proudly...I...LOVE you Adora!”
“Pearl…I love you too! I…”
“Hush now…let’s enjoy this moment.”
Catra watched in shock as she saw the passionate kiss between Pearl and Adora as their hair blew in the breeze. After this, they stared into the night sky and gazed up at the moon together. She thought that this was real. This illusion broke apart when she turned her head, seeing Adora sitting next to her, enthralled by the memory. She began thinking to herself, what am I thinking? Am I jealous? I should be supportive of what she has. I’ll never have that.
MC-Pearl announced that she had one final memory she wanted to show them. Adora was giddy with excitement while Catra feigned interest, tired of seeing all the memories as her fascination with them began to wane. Without notice, the memory began. Catra took a deep breath. She saw Adora and Pearl traveling across the Earth, using warp pads, checking for unusual activity. While this memory played, Adora began crying a little as she watched herself and Pearl smooching while cradling Pearl in her arms. When the dream version of her began singing a melody, she cheered, and Catra mumbled under her breath, “oh, brother.” Adora loved the song’s rhythm, romantic themes, and beauty. She enjoyed what Pearl had to say about her song and their happy scampering through a field of rose petals. Neither she nor Pearl were aware that the other Crystal Gems were watching this all from the Moon Base due to Steven's error in turning off the observation orb.
Soon thereafter, Adora and Catra were teleported back to the Memory Core room. Adora began talking to MC-Pearl, insisting they be sent back to the surface. This Pearl honored their request. She warned that the "big boss" Pearl on the outside may not be ready yet. Despite the same realization, Adora remained determined, wanting to give to Pearl for hiding Catra from her. MC-Pearl transported them to the surface level using her pearl. When they arrived, surface Pearl met them, again, and shuttered, trying to be friendly, hoping it would prevent further conflict.
“So, how was your time in the memory core? Did you resolve your…uh…issues?”
“Nice. I loved watching those memories again.”
Catra demurred, saying she agreed with Adora this one time. “I-I-I agree with Adora. I get why they like each other so much. I wish I had something like that in my life.”
The surface Pearl smiled. “As a person with markings of a tabby cat, a feline headpiece, and your…whole look…I get it! Big boss Pearl is the best matchmaker around!”
Catra rolled her eyes and easily brushed it off. “Uh…no thanks. I’ll figure it out on my own.” She wanted assistance in that department but thought that questioning her about it would be perceived as “weak,” and it would expose her to vulnerabilities. She did know that the surface Pearl lied to her. Even though she had learned a lot from her relationship with Adora, generally, Pearl did not have good advice when it came to the relationship department due to her often low self-esteem.
The surface Pearl huffed and declared, “fine! Suit yourself!”
Luckily for them, the situation outside Pearl’s gemstone dimension had degraded to such a point that she needed Adora and Catra to aid her. She instructed the Pearls inside her gemstone dimension to supply them with weapons. The surface Pearl, who served as the gatekeeper in relaying requests to the other subservient Pearls, received the order. She handed a straight sword to Adora and a shotgun to Catra. Without warning, Adora and Catra were called forth by Pearl, away from memories and things of the past. Lasers whizzed over their heads, nearly killing them both on arrival in the "real world." Using her She-Ra powers, Adora created a shield, protecting Catra, and herself, from the onslaught. She wielded her sword while Pearl retrieved a pearlescent spear from her Gem, blasting a path forward through the ship's metal superstructure. She sighed and demanded immediate action from Catra and Adora.
“Nice to see you both…but we need to go, now!”
“Aye, Captain P!”
Running quickly, Adora tightly clasped Catra’s hand. Grasping a sword in her other hand, she slashed through doorways, and sped forward with her comrades. On the way to the bridge, Pearl found an elevator. They jumped inside with only seconds to spare. The doors slammed closed behind them. The elevator zoomed up the shaft. When the propaganda message, about the Diamonds and their quest for an empire, started to blare, Pearl stabbed the speaker with her spear, causing it to sizzle and sputter.
The elevator beeped and opened. Unlike the one Lars and the Off Colors used to reach the Trilliant Splitter’s bridge, Adora, Catra, and Pearl had to traverse a long corridor, where they would be prone to danger. Pulling out the shotgun, Catra cackled as she cocked it.
“I’m ready to kick some Gem butt, oh yeah!”
Pearl and Adora were not fans of this glee to hurt others. They silently promised, to each other, to confront her about it at a later point. Seizing the ship and establishing contact with Lars, on a decrepit ship floating in the planet’s orbit, remained the top priority. Knocking out the guards remained easy, one Gem stood in their way. She had a light-orange skin complexion, curly pale-yellow afro, red-and-white jumpsuit, white-gay gloves, white-and-red boots, and other stylish clothes. She wielded her pink rapier with a teal edge, challenging them to a duel. She announced herself to a terrified Pearl, determined Adora, and strong-willed Catra.
“I am Hessonite, commander of the Trilliant Splitters and this is my ship. I will not accept defeat from pipsqueaks like you! Prepare to meet your doom!”
Adora brandished a sword, Pearl her spear, and Catra a shotgun. They were ready for battle. Hessonite charged headfirst, laughing maniacally, wildly swinging her rapier. Adora countered her attack, while Pearl released energy bursts from her spear simultaneously. Closing one eye, Catra fired the shotgun. Artfully, Hessonite sliced each bullet in half and sprinted her direction. Sensing trouble, Adora erected a shield, protecting Catra yet again. Pearl rushed in front of Adora and summoned another spear. She blocked the strong blade of Hessonite’s rapier, while Catra took potshots at her, crouching safely behind Adora’s shield. Growling and snarling, she became frustrated, preparing to go on the offensive. This never happened. While Pearl distracted her, one of Catra's shotgun blasts hit her directly in the chest. She screamed in pain while her form dissolved into her hessonite gemstone. This was a low point for Hessonite. In the Gem hierarchy established by the Diamonds, all garnet-type Gems, like hers, were originally tasked with leading armies, conquering planets, and served as colony overseers. Often, the Diamonds gave them light prisms to wield as weapons, but they were outlawed after the Steven-led anti-Diamond offensive all those years ago on Homeworld. For a human, one without a Gem, to poof her, a shameful experience to say the least.
Grapping onto the gemstone, Pearl bubbled it and put it inside her gemstone for safekeeping until they came back to Earth. While Adora knew that Gems, like Pearl, were only manifestations of light, which would return to their gemstones if “poofed,” Catra did not have the same basis of knowledge. Her eyes darting from place to place, she demanded answers.
“What in the world is going on? How...why…did Hessonite disappear into that gemstone?
Pearl pulled her aside and began to explain.
“Every Gem, like myself, projects a light-composed body, often humanoid, from their gemstone, which can change at will. When someone’s gemstone is damaged, the physical form dissipates, and they retreat to their Gem so they can regenerate. That is what happened to Hessonite.”
Despite remaining questions, Pearl’s explanation helped a little. She smiled and spoke to her, beginning to respect her a little more than in the past.
“Pearl, thanks for telling me that. I want to learn more about Gems, but what you said is a step in the right direction. You are such a great person for Adora. You have a shared history and are cute together. I have…nothing with Adora…nothing at all.”
While Pearl’s face became hot and her cheeks became a bit bluer, as she froze in place due to her embarrassment. Catra broke down and began crying. Seeing her in emotional distress, Adora embraced her, reassuring her that she mattered.
“Don’t say that! Pearl is my girlfriend, but…we will be connected until the end of time.”
While this would have comforted Catra, what Adora said perplexed her even more. She cornered Adora, and leaned in, insisting she reveal her true feelings without delay.
“Fine, fine, Pearl is your gf, significant other, a lover, whatever you want to call it…but what am I to you? A friend? A love interest? A crush?”
Adora stuttered, unsure how to respond to Catra’s rapid-fire questions. As she began to formulate an answer, an alert interrupted her thought response.
“Incoming ship detected. Designation unknown. Please take appropriate action.”
Pearl examined the spacecraft on the monitor. She recommended they prepare for combat. As a precaution, she contacted Lars and the Off Colors on their weakened Trilliant Splitter, otherwise known as the LDD, hoping he could inform them about this enemy.
“Captain Lars, we saw a new ship enter the planet’s orbit and may soon break through the planetary blockade. What should we do? Should we engage? What say you?”
Lars had never seen such a ship, so he relayed the message to Cleo and the others on the ground, hunkered in Brian’s laboratory, hiding from the Xerxs. Cleo could not recognize the craft, but Khensu did, remembering records from the P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. archives. He shouted loudly into the receiver, “it’s Octavian’s craft! Shoot it down!” A couple minutes passed. The unidentified ship was about to enter the planet’s atmosphere. Lars' order to attack the craft interrupted Pearl's thought process. She proceeded to press a button on the console. The automatic turrets opened fire. In the Gem fleet, Admiral Jack received schematics of the ship’s design and ordered the same. For a fleeting moment, the GDA and the Crystal Gems had a common foe. Although the ray shields deflected most of the damage, one laser bolt hit the unprotected starship engine, causing the ship to spiral out of control and be on collision course toward the planet's surface.
Detecting the descent of Octavian’s ship, Khepra ordered the Xerxs, she controlled, to retreat, and be on standby until the craft reached the ground. Cleo and her friends were surprised by the pull back of the Xerxs despite being surrounded and destined for inevitable defeat. They decided to not pursue. Brian used his technical knowledge to rapidly restore the shield around Mayet City and P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. Not only would it stop the asteroids but an inevitable enemy assault, whether from Octavian or someone else, like the Gem army, otherwise known as the GDM. The latter had landed on the planet's surface, with the Gems, Cleo and her friends, and other comrades distracted by the battle in space, unable to stop the invasion.
Far above the planet, Lars, the Off Colors, and Connie, grasping a delirious Steven in her arms, entered an escape pod. The LDD seemed like a lost cause. They wanted to join Pearl, Adora, and Catra aboard a Trilliant Splitter which had not suffered as much damage. Lars felt confident there would be nothing to worry about with the LDD on autopilot and rigged to explode on the click of a button. Pearl activated the tractor beam. As their pod entered the ship’s hangar bay, Pearl received reports of unusual activity on other Gem fleet vessels. A type of sleeping gas had been released, causing Gems to fall down, and become unconscious. The ship started to move on its own, without their direction, and away from the planet’s gravitational pull. Using her ability to interface with Gem technology, Pearl desperately strained to regain control of the ship. While she was successful, she fell back, completely exhausted, and into Adora’s arms. At that moment, Lars and the Off Colors reached the ship’s bridge. Lars offering to take over while Pearl remained incapacitated, which Adora happily agreed to, while she tended to Pearl. All those on the bridge watched in shock as the Gem ships powered up their engines and vanished in front of their very eyes.
None of them could understand what happened, but they prepared for the worst. Adora brought Pearl to the ship’s medical bay, with Catra tagging behind as a loyal friend who undoubtedly had a crush on Adora. She waved to Connie, who sat by Steven, who lay on a bed, weakened by the large use of energy to protect the ship Lars and his compatriots had skyjacked. Fluorite, like on the LDD, went down to the engine room, while RT, Pappy, and Rhodonite stayed in bridge with their captain.
The Peridots, who pranked Admiral Jack earlier that day, had followed through on their plan. The computer virus they had created, wormed its way into the mainframes of every ship, including the one that Lars and his crew had set to blow up, allowing them to control everything from a room on the Pear Shimmer. The virus spread quickly into all the spacecraft of the GDA, while activating the Gem sleeping bombs, with the sleeping gas spreading through the ventilation system. The Peridots all worse gas masks, so they were unaffected. Prior to leaving the galaxy, en route to Homeworld, as part of a devilish scheme to overthrow of the Diamond Authority and empower the Gem populace with the use of the Gem fleet. The head of these Peridots activated a sequence affected only one ship: Admiral Jack's Asscher Slasher. Admiral Jack found his starfighter screaming through Mayet’s atmosphere. Unable to control the craft, he cut his way out of the cockpit and leaped into the air, watching as his ship crashed into electric thorn trees and burst into flame. Landing on ground gracefully, he stood in front of advancing troops of the GDM, complete with mobile Gem drills, Esperanzas, and other technology at the ready. He held up his hand, ordering them to stop. He brandished his sword, prepared to take down Octavian for the last time. Octavian lay close by, injured from his ship’s crash, and surrounded by a legion of Xerxs, led by Khepra. Creaking from the abrasions and sores across his body, he shook his fist and cried out so loud that his voice echoed across the landscape:
“I’ll get you, Jack, if it’s the last thing I do! Get ready to be Octavian’d!”

End Note: For this story, I used information from the pages “Pearl,” “A Single Pale Rose,” "Pink Dimension," “Lars and the Cool Kids,” “Sworn to the Sword,” “Familiar (episode),” “Steven Universe (Character)”, and “Hessonite,” “Garnets,” “Gems,” and “Light Prism,” on the Steven Universe fandom site, and the “Catra” page on the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power fandom site. I used the same general understanding of blushing that I used in the previous story. I was probably also subconsciously influenced by Inside Out in terms of Pearl's "memory core." I used the Pink Dimension page to again make it as close to canon as possible.

Lapidot Week- Day One; Dancing in the Rain
Peridot is upset that she missed out on Lapis' first Rainday. Flowers are planted and dances are had.
@lapidot-week come get y’all juice
The sound of clanging alerts Lapis to her barnmate's incoming.
Peridot wouldn't know subtlety if it crawled out of her Gem, and the sound of her as she scaled the ten foot tall vertical water tower would be impressive to a newcomer, but at this point it was practically mundane, so Lapis didn't do much more than shift slightly to give her green . . . friend space as she awkwardly flopped over the edge, letting out a cheer as she reached the top.
"Neyhehe!" She giggled, pulling herself up beside Lapis to bare little pointed fangs at the ground below "I have conquered you!"
"And it only took you two hours" Lapis deadpanned as she did not react to Peri leaning into her.
"I know!" Peridot grinned, looking smug "a new record!" She pulled away slightly, and Lapis let out a little disappointed 'oh' that the little Gem thankfully seemed to miss. "A record I wouldn't need to be breaking if you would just fly me up."
"Eh, the climbings good for you" she grinned a little at Peridot's affronted expression, before turning away to stare at the land surrounding them. She could see the place where the Orchids they had tried to grow were, now withered and dead, the one plant they had yet to master.
Peridot, following her gaze, gave a little hum of realisation "it's very . . . green, isn't it?" She said, like it was the highest compliment one could give to another.
Lapis snorted "yeah, it is. You fit right in."
"Actually, save for the plants we are growing, I have yet to find another creature on this planet that is green like me" she paused "well, Steven mentioned 'hoppers of grass' but apparently they can spit acid, so I'm not sure I want to meet them."
The tall blue Gem stared at the smaller one for a second in disbelief before whistling, a new trick that Steven had taught her "never saw anything like that, although" she trailed off here, glancing up at the sky for a moment "I did see some weird things, when I was- um, under the sea."
Peridot nodded, enthusiastic and carefully ignoring Lapis' slip up. This was why they were friends. "Oh yeah, Amethyst told me about them! They're called fish! Did you know that Earth doesn't even know half of the Ocean's wildlife? Talk about ignorant."
Lapis found herself agreeing; while she liked Earth, her opinions on it's inhabitants were pretty indecisive, mostly because, outside of Steven, Connie and whoever that 'Greg' guy was, she had never met any humans. Unless you counted Camp Pining Hearts, but she was pretty sure if she ever met Paulette, she would uppercut her into the ocean.
"I saw this one . . fish that would expand if you got too close" Lapis reminisced fondly "scared the hell out of us- me. Scared the hell out of me."
Peridot looked amazed at this new information, pulling a notebook out of who-knows-where and scribbling in it fiercely. "But how? Doesn't that break the law of conversation of mass?" She gasped, almost dropping her fancy fountain pen that had almost certainly been stolen from Amethyst who stole it from Pearl. "Are other creatures on Earth capable of that? Is Steven? Is Greg?"
And now her friend was looking at her, like she had all the answers to life, the universe and everything, eyes shining beneath her visor as her hair stood up in all directions, and Lapis was very, very gay (a new term, thank you Pearl) and so blurts out the first thing that comes to mind.
"There weren't any Pumpkins down there."
. . .
Okay, look. Nobody here said that Lapis was smart, and she could see her pet (pet? Like a Pearl? Or a Spinel?) playing down below, and she panicked and now-
-oh Stars, Peridot was doing the thing, with her eyes like she had just realised something beyond the ken of measly gay idiots everywhere.
"Of course! Underwater flora would be completely different than overground flora! Less light and less rain-"
"No rain."
Peridot stopped scribbling in her notebook, which is great because Lapis is pretty sure she can hear the pen weeping, but the manic look doesn't leave her eyes at all. "What?"
Lapis carefully folded her legs underneath her in a kneeling position, which caused Peridot to scooch back slightly, looking slightly . . . disappointed? In the sudden lack of contact "it doesn't rain down there. I didn't even know what rain was until - until I got out."
Not that she was particularly impressed once she discovered it either. It was handy for farming, but other than that? Useless.
But already Peri was making sharp gestures with her hands, "HOLD ON, hold on, are you telling me, that I missed out on your first rain day?" The hands fell into Peri's lap, as she stared, crushed, up at her barnmate.
Slag, slag, slag, you messed up, you messed up big-
Lapis tried to laugh it off "well yeah, but it doesn't matter, it's just water-"
"Just water!" Peridot repeated, somewhat hysterical. "Have you ever seen another planet that drips water from the sky?"
She hesitated "does- does acid count as water?"
The technician stared, bug eyed for a moment, before; "NO!"
"Okay, okay!" Lapis put up both of her hands, feeling oddly defensive about the whole thing "just thought I'd ask."
That did absolutely nothing to soothe Peridot's feelings, as she just curled up into a ball, with a frown on her face.
Great job, Lazuli
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Luckily for Lapis' self worth, the conversation is abandoned and forgotten, until almost a week later, when Peridot all but kicks the barn door in, almost faceplanting as she bounds inside to where Lapis was reading one of those 'trashy romance novels' Amethyst keeps giving her.
She's finally reaching the part that Amethyst assured her is 'hot' and 'steamy' and so is a little annoyed when Peridot grabs one of her arms and pulls her out of her hammock, dragging her slowly towards the door.
"Come on, Lazuli, work with me here!" Peridot grits out as she hauls Lapis towards the open door. Lapis herself, laying on her back and staring blankly up at the ceiling, does not react besides a very slow blink. It's only when they're outside, almost ten minutes later, that she pulls herself to her feet and smiles at the exhausted Peridot.
"You wanted something?"
Peridot doesn't respond; instead choosing to stick her tongue out and march away. "Oh, that's mature" Lapis calls after her as she easily catches up.
It is only then that she really registers the weather around them; it is 'drizzling' a term used for when it is lightly raining, and the feeling of droplets hitting her skin reminds her of the conversation they had all those days ago, and how upset Peri had been.
She's always been pretty ambivalent towards the rain, but that memory may have just ruined it for her.
Peridot turns a corner, then spins dramatically around to face her, hands on hips, triumphant even as the rain starts to wrestle with the mess that is her hair. "Lazuli, I have something to show you."
"Yeah, I got that when you literally dragged me from the barn" Lapis tries to crane her neck around to see what Peridot is blocking but she lets out a screech of anger when she does, so Lapis snaps her head back.
"Thank you" Peridot said pleasantly, like she didn't just fracking screech at Lapis not two seconds ago. "I would like you to meet the newest addition to our farm" and then she moves aside.
Lapis and Peridot had been branching out in their gardening, particularly in the flower department. With Lapis' powers and Peridot's . . . Peridoting, they had singlehandedly mastered the care for every single flower.
Except one.
The Orchid.
Forget the Diamond Authority, these weeds were the real banes of their existence. Connie had heard their troubles, and tried to reassure them, telling them that Orchids were considered one of the hardest plants to care for, that even the most experienced gardeners had troubles with it. Not that that helped much; many a tantrum had been thrown over this stupid, pretty plant. The temptation to just . . ask Steven for help was strong, but they wanted to do this on their own.
It got to the point where they were both strongly considering Amethyst's idea of Goat Sacrificing, Peridot had looked into it and it seemed 'legit' as the humans said.
But now.
Oh, but now-
In a small, small circle, were a couple of orchids, tall and healthy and alive, and not dead.
And blue.
Lapis gapes, unable to even begin to say anything as she stared at the flowers that had only just come into bloom. Peridot rocks back on her heels, grin even larger now as she saw her partners blatant shock.
The rain is starting to come down heavy now, starting to soak through their clothes, but the way Peridot is acting, it was if the sun itself was shining down on her.
Lapis opens her mouth to say something, closes it again, then takes a step forwards to get a better look, bending down to inspect the petals. Her jaw tightens as she spins around to face Peridot, ignoring how her hair is beginning to stick to her face thanks to the determined rainfall "you cheated!" She accuses.
Peridot blinks, hurt "I did not!"
The blue Gem looks between her and the Orchids "yeah, you did. There are no such thing as blue Orchids, you had to have done something to them" honestly, she had read the same gardening books Peridot did, did she really think she wouldn't notice?
Surprisingly, Peridot blushes, sending up small splashes from newly forming puddles as she fidgets on the spot, fixing her eyes on a point beyond Lapis. "I didn't cheat" she says in a quavering sort of voice "not really. I- uh, I got Steven to take me to a Gardening Center, and I bought white Orchids, and I planted them here approximately one week ago."
Lapis stares at her, trying to drill the simple point through her visor and into her head "they're blue."
She clears her throat awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot "yes, well, I thought I could" she gestures helplessly towards the flowers "inject them. With some dye."
Lapis shoves her now sodden hair out of her eyes, frowning as it just flopped down again. What had happened to that nice drizzle? She was soaked. And, more importantly-
"Why blue? Of all colours, why blue?"
Peridot grimaces, looking like she had just been caught out. "W-well" she rubs her fingers together "I- I like blue?" She offers, throwing up her hands in a what do you do? kind of gesture.
There is something in that, something that Lapis felt like she should be seeing, but, to be honest, it is hard to see even a meter in front of her. The rain is coming down hard now, hitting her skin and filling her ears with the rhythmic pit-pat sound. Through the sheet of rain, everything is blurry and mushed up, and Lapis glances back behind her to make sure that the Orchids, which, apparently, weren't the byproduct of Steven or some other outsider playing Diamond, only to see-
She has to take a step back.
Through the rain, the awful, dreadful, downpouring rain, all you could see of the Orchids were the colours-
Blue and Green.
The Orchids petals and stems and leaves.
Blue and Green and Blue and Green.
Mixing, mashing together, blurring so much that it was impossible to see where one colour ended and another began.
Blue and Green.
"Earth's colours" Peridot says, splashing up beside her, voice trembling.
"Our colours" Lapis agrees, sliding her hand through her brilliant, amazing, special partner.
Peridot shrieks when Lapis picks her up, spinning her around as she bounces through the puddles. It doesn't take long for the shrieks to become laughter, or for Lapis to join in, both of them soaked to the skin as they do.
Lapis slips, falling backwards, accidentally crushing two of the Orchids they had worked so hard to even exist, but neither cared, Lapis already rolling to her feet and Peridot already jumping into her arms. It didn't even occur to Lapis to use her wings- this was an Earth dance, not a sky dance.
Peridot's hair is flattened against the rain, making her look smaller than ever, frailer than ever, but she laughs the same as she kicks her way through the puddle, and Lapis laughs with her as she, a Lapis Lazuli, a high ranking Gem, is splashed with mud, some of which gets in her mouth. It just makes her laugh harder. There is no worries about the mirror or Malachite or Fusion at all- they are just two friends dancing through the rain and mud and flowers, howling at the sky.
All those days ago, on the water tower, she hadn't understood why Peridot seemed so upset she missed out on her first rain day.
Now, laughing as she twirled and twisted, feeling her dress float out around her and Peridot put their foreheads together, she finally got it.
And through the rain, the amazing, wonderful, downpouring rain, all you could see of the two were the colours-
Mixing, mashing together, blurring so much that it was impossible to see where one colour ended and another began.
Just Blue and Green and Blue and Green.
The Earth's Colours.
Blue and Green.
I wrote this in an hour because I completely forgot about Lapidot week, and my arm really hurts, and I will surely hate this in Two Hours but it’s Fine.
Also, my weird obsession with flowers leaks into everything I have ever made ever, but at least it’s understandable in this case

One Solar Rotation
hey! I found some time, here’s my contribution to @lapidot-anniversary-week
day 1: Barn Mates
words: 1.8k
summary: Steven shows Lapis and Peridot how to celebrate an anniversary
Lapis wiggled her toes against the smooth wood of Steven’s living room, it itched against her heel and she felt a little out of place all over again. She sort of wished she was just back at her barn.
“Hup,” Lapis turned around quickly to see Steven struggling to pull a white piece of cloth out from a pile in a small pantry to the side.
“Here,” Lapis steps forward to help but Steven had already yanked hard and freed a long sheet of white.
“Ta-da!” He sang and held up an apron that read ‘I’m Only Grumpy on the Outside (and Inside)’ Steven was grinning.
Lapis folded her arms across her chest, “I don’t know Steven…”
”It’ll be sweet,” He says simply and places it on the counter, Lapis helps him get a footstool out and they find a ‘whisk’ when the front door bangs open. “Neheheh!” Lapis jumped as someone ran across the room and plopped a brown down on the counter, “Two Steven!”
“Peridot,” Lapis says as Peridot comes back into the room, the other gem was looking at the fridge.
“We got two boxes. With less currency than required!” Peridot was laughing gleefully as she hopped up on the counter next to her bag.
Lapis reaches over and pinches her cheek firmly, “He said four eggs.”
Peridot waved at her happily, “I know, I know, and they gave us twelve! But, what I’m saying is we got two boxes of the mix. Coupons are earth's version of cheat codes.” She says with a sniff and Lapis gives a small weak smile.
“Well, we ‘preheated the oven,’ and ‘are on track’ apparently.” Lapis says clearly as she puts quote marks around the words, Peridot just grins and leans toward her.
“And I got this!” Steven wrangles with the aprons, “You guys are going to look so cute.” Lapis rolls her eyes and stands up again, “I still think I’m missing the point here, but I’ll wear the weird covers if I have to.” Peridot snickered and jumped up on top of the counter, pulling herself up to her full height, “It’s been a solar rotation Lapis, that’s important here. The sun survived one more year and the clustered didn’t emerge once more.” Peridot put her hands on her hips, “We’re heroes.”
Lapis raised an eyebrow and leaned on the counter, “Wait, wasn’t this for our dumb barn?”
“And the sun.” Lapis nodded, “And the sun.” Steven came up to them and looked between the two gems, “It’s for you two!” He grinned, “Come on, Lapis, you’ve never had cake before and this your big day.” Lapis ruffled his hair and stepped back for him to put a pan down, “Cake day.” “And the day you two moved into together a year ago,” He said as he unpacked the bag. “That has to special.” Peridot smiled and put a finger in the air, “Despite being a much more powerful gem, she didn’t even shatter me! I assume that calls for this.” Lapis laughs and puts her arm on Peridot’s shoulder, “You’d be way too stubborn to shatter.”
“True,” Peridot says astutely, “But I assume a Lapis like yourself has her ways.”
Lapis blinked innocently and leaned down, their noses almost touching, “Oh, I have many ways.” “Uh,” Steven blinks, “Flirt later, come help me crack the eggs now. And try the aprons. They’re cute!” He announces and was holding out a mixing bowl.
Lapis begrudgingly put on the ‘grumpy’ cooking apron. Peridot had her own one with a smiling flower and said ‘Mr. Good Lookin is Cookin,’ Steven said it was his dads. Peridot said it was the only one she would wear.
They start measuring flour (which was apparently different than flowers), spilling milk and wasting at least three and a half eggs.
Peridot gets yoke in her hair and Lapis may or may not flick flour at her until she’s white. Steven may or may not then have to stop them from covering each other in flour and Peridot attempting to put her in a headlock.
They pour the cake mix in, making a double batch and Lapis watches as the mixture starts to spread out, “Is it really good?” She couldn’t imagine wanting to put a lot of things in her mouth. She had avoided ‘eating’ so far for a reason.
Steven nods enthusiastically, “Peridot had some when before you came back.” Peridot grabbed her hand, “It’s not entirely terrible.”
“Ah, like you.” Lapis quips and Peridot squeezes her hand in a less friendly way.
“Hey! We’re celebrating our barn here. Steven says be nice.” Lapis sticks her tongue out at her.
“Ah,” Steven gets out his phone, “you guys have really come so far though.” Lapis gives an almost grin, she squeezes Peridot’s hand back, friendly this time, “there’s still time.” She says slowly, “Never too late to claim the barn for myself.” “Ugh,” Peridot flicks her with her free hand, “I’ll haunt you like one of Steven’s bad horror films.”
Lapis laughs, “Good.” She grins, “It honestly wouldn’t be the same without you I suppose.”
“Awwwww,” Steven snaps another picture of them before Lapis can make a face.
“Whether you’re a scary ‘It’ monster or not.” She says as they glance at the red oven glowing with their concoction within.
“‘It’ isn’t a ghost guys, it’s a clown alien thing.” Steven tuts, “I can explain it again if you want.” “No it’s okay,” Lapis says quickly, “I’m perfectly happy with a whole Peridot now. I won’t make her a, uh, alien clown? Anytime soon.”
She could feel Peridot beaming at her and Lapis shuffles side to side, “You’re not a terrible roommate yourself Lazuli!” Lapis just shakes her head, “A good reason for cake and a solar rotation.” Lapis just looks in the other direction, she wished her face wouldn’t heat up, or that frankly, she didn’t have a face. Peridot still held her hand.
“Watch the oven guys it’ll be done soon! I’ll be right back.” Steven darts out of the room and they keep their eyes on the rising ‘food.’ Peridot chatters about getting them library cards since it was easier to check out comics of CPH and use their free internet there.
“...anyway, I was thinking you could wear one of those flower hats and I’ll get my bowtie out for the pictures. Fooling humans will be easy!”
Lapis looks off into the distance, “Uh-huh.” She keeps her eye on the timer.
“Our names will be Percy Peridot and Lapis Lazuli Peridot. We’ll be married with one son, also named Peridot.” Peridot hums, “That’ll be Veggiehead.” She whispers. Lapis pauses and turns to her curiously, “Married though? Why?” Peridot’s face goes a little slack and she shuffles her feet, “Uh, oh, I mean, we can be something else if you want.” She scratches her neck, “We don’t have to be married for library cards. We could be students, or batman or something.” Lapis can feel herself smiling, “Hmm....nah,” Lapis looks away and then puts an arm around Peridot’s shoulder, “Didn’t you hear? We all already got married.”
Peridot snickers and Lapis draws her closer, Peridot squirms, “But!” Lapis practically picks her up, “We’re a little more married than the rest of them, right?”
Lapis laughs and swings her around, “If that’s what gets us a library card.” Peridot shakes her head and wraps her arms around Lapis’s neck, Lapis tips their foreheads together, “We can be a little more married than the rest of them.” She feels a soft touch against her lips, Peridot tentatively reaching up and closing the gap between them, Lapis gives into one of those human kisses for the briefest moment.
“Hey!” Steven was back in the room, Lapis feels a spritz of water across her cheek, “Wait a moment, the cakes not even out yet.”
Steven runs between them and uses the oven gloves to yank the cake out.
Lapis blinks and sees the brown goop had hardened into a bread, she smiles, “That looks pretty good, right? Like the book?”
“Very like the book.” Peridot agrees as she sways back from her.
“Go sit down you too,” Steven shoos, “I’ll bring it out!”
“Okay?” Lapis raises her eyebrow but allows herself to be beckoned out of the kitchen and into the living room with the small table. She sits around it with Peridot getting the last bit egg out of her own hair.
“It really has been a year.” She breaths, they had rounded this sun for an entire cycle.
“Not bad, eh?” Peridot chirps as she sits down next to her, “We fought some people, played baseball, broke that fence that kept those cows in,” Lapis laughs in response. “Met Ruby! Grew so much corn, got pumpkin.” Lapis leans back and puts her head heavily on Peridot’s shoulder, “And we did it together.” Peridot makes a sharp little noise and Lapis glances at her, the little gems face flushed a deeper color. “Yep.” She says with her voice cracking and Lapis pecks her quickly on the cheek. “Together...”
They stay pleasantly still as Steven dashes back into the kitchen, “Congratulations!”
They both sit up straight, “Good!” Peridot cheers and Lapis leans forward to see the light ‘chocolate’ cake come forward.
“Peridot chose the words,” Steven said happily as he set down the little cake with the phrase ‘Thanks for Learning About Earth with Me!’ in bright green lettering.
Lapis’s eyes went wide, “Oh.” She said softly.
Peridot put her hand out, “I mean it.”
Lapis shifted from side to side and then leaned forward, “I think I should be the one saying that.”
Peridot shrugs and looks away, Lapis quickly dives in and kisses her on the nose, “Hopefully it tastes good or I really will keep the barn!”
“Nooooo.” Peridot makes a face at her and Lapis laughs.
They feed each other the first bite and Steven takes another picture, it was sweet.
“Here’s another solar rotation!” She cheers, and they really had made it.

Trapped P2
P2 of today's lapidot week post.
Please read p1 first or this won't make sense at all XD
Enjoy~
-------------------------------
This girl was leaving me speechless. I glanced down at our hands, mine red and still bearing the loop of rope, and hers covered by a tightish black and blue long sleeve shirt.
"I don't think there's much of a choice, no..." I whispered, unable to tear my eyes away from our hands. That is, until she started pulling me in the oppisite direction of the entrance door, releasing my hand to kneel and pull a good sized box out from behind a stack of crates. I perked up as she opened it, revealing my boosters and gloves.
"Figured you'd be more up for a fight with these." She huffed, smiling at my expression. I wasted no time strapping on my boosters and slipping on my gloves, powering them up and feeling their usual mechanical pulse and slight warmth.
She pushed the box back and waved, ushering me further away from the door and closer to the messiest part of the warehouse. She guided me through the boxy maze, until we reached a ladder and she began quickly climbing. I followed, thankful I had decided to redesign my gloves to make them less bulky. They were just about as thick as winter mittens, but still contained power that suited my needs.
The girl pushed out a window, and climbed outward. It dawned on my then that I still hadn't gotten her name. Unless it was just Laz. I doubted it. If jasper was looking to swoon her it made more sense for it to be a pet name.
I didn't have time to ask as she began running across the roof, slowing at the edge and staring out at the city. I followed, looking down though to see a small gathering of homeworlders in the small clearing between the warehouses. I stopped behind laz, sighing a bit. "Why'd you stop?"
She blinked turning back to me. "I've never been able to get out. The jump over the fence..." I looked down to see what she meant. There was a good 10 yards between the roof and the wall sorounding the warehouses.
"Its impossible..." I whispered, blinking before turning to her and using the opportunity to give her a smirk. "Unless you have booster boots." She smiled in return. I hesitantly wrapped an arm around her hip, before backing up a little. She wrapped both her arms around my neck as i took a five step running start and launched. I barely got over, but I swear I saw laz's eyes get brighter as we landed (truthfully a bit messilly, as I stumbled a bit...) in the alley on the other side. She released me and hopped a few times, laughing.
She turned back, watching me as i blushed and looked away. I didn't like the thought that I might have been staring. After all I just met the girl...
But she grabbed me hand again, her happy face a bit softer now. "I'd love to celebrate, but we're still a bit too close for any comfort." I simply nodded as we both began running. I could tell she slowed a bit to match my pace. Halfway to the hideout I slowed a bit more as i realized I could really trust her. She was flirting with me. This could be a trap... I lead her in a slightly different direction, hoping she didn't notice.
When we got a good distance away, and we climbed onto a rooftop, I sighed and leaned against the small building on the roof. "I am never accepting a scouting mission again... this was such a mess."
Laz giggled, leaning next to me. "Well then I guess you have a lot of luck, techie." I was surprised to hear her yawn. "But then again, so am I. You have no idea how long I've been trapped in hoeworlds ranks..."
We both slid down to sit, and she leaned her head onto my shoulder. My heart beat a bit faster again, startling me. But I stayed Still.
Okay that's a lie. I leaned back against her.
"What now... for you I mean? I know where I'm going... heh..." I layed my hand between us, not thinking too much about it since I was more concerned with my sudden heart rate and nervousness in general.
"I want to fight back. Not all homeworld gems are bad, you know. Yellow of course, and jasper is a dousche... But I know how it feels to be trapped there. And I met a few people in there that felt the same. I need some time, of course, but I'm not gonna leave them to suffer like I have." Her answer was firm, and I felt bad for doubting her.
"I... do you know about the Crystal gems? Besides the whole "stupid good guys" deal I'm sure they drones into you?" It made me a bit excited to think that I might get to know her better.
She laughed. "Not really. But if they're against homeworld I guess they aren't against me. But I don't think I want to be in a... "team". Not now. Not after homeworld." I was dissapointed, and my heart sank. I realized how dumb that sounded.
"It's different. It's like a family, not an army. But... I guess I couldn't force you." I looked back forward, realizing the sun was coming up. "I'd hate to force anyone. I've seen a lot of force." I closed my eyes, hating myself for saying that. "I mean... bad stuff. I've seen a lot of bad things."
She hummed, which I couldn't decide if it was in slight annoyance or some sort of agreement. But I didn't say anything either, just watching the sun for a bit, until the girl beside me shifted, standing up. "I guess you should be getting back...?"
I stood up as well, a bit quicker than if like to admit. I actually wasn't ready for the queit moment to be over. "I... I don't HAVE to... I mean... do you even have anywhere to go?"
She giggled, walking over and standing on the edge. "Oh I'll be fine. But it's good to know you worry about me~" I stepped closer, facing her. I blushed but furrowed my brows. "Of course I do... uh... I mean just... I don't want you sleeping on the streets, is all..."
She raised a brow, showing her slight disbelief. "I'll find somewhere, cutie. Promise I'll stay out of the rain and all that." She chuckled, and I felt her put her arms around my neck. Before I could ask her anything, she pressed our lips together, making me freeze in shock.
But I soon relaxed, craving the warmth and gentleness of her kiss. Just as i began to need it, she pulled away. I opened my mouth but she was already close to my ear. "Don't worry, I plan to see you again, love~" and she pushed me back slightly, causing me to stumble. I was blushing, and watched as she gave me a flirty salute and leaned back, falling from the roof. I rushed back, but when I looked down she was gone.
I was bewildered, blushing, and exhausted. But I already felt a bit sad at her presence being gone, and I backed away from the edge, running my hand through my hair as i ardently walked over to the edge closest to where the hideout would be.
I guess all I had to do now was head home.
