New Music Review: We Live In A Society by Flume JPEGMAFIA

I don't really know how to feel about this EP. JPEGMAFIA is probably my favorite rap artist, but that's mostly for his production, and We Live In A Society is primarily produced by Flume. It's a lot more hyperpop than the rest of Peggy's catalouge with a feature from Ravyn Lenae on "Is It Real." Peggy doesn't rap for half the album. On "Track 1," he raps about how bad Flume's rap beats are (great music video by the way). There's also very questionable vocal mixing and lyrics on "AI Girlfriend." That whole song as a concept is questionable. "The Ocean Is Fake" is my one of favorite tracks on the EP. It knows what it is and it's great. The drums are dynamic and the instrumental is ethereal. JPEG also has his best rap performance on the EP. Overall, not what I expected.

Hey Big Man is one of my fav 100 gecs tracks but I listen to most of my music on a pair of wireless TaoTronics earbuds* and it just fucking eats them. It's so funny. My crappy little 10 year old Bluetooth speaker does fine, my 15 year old car speakers handle it just fine, but it sounds like tinfoil in these fucking things.

*For the record, they're really balanced, and I really like them. I don't watch DankPods much anymore, I'm not really like an audiophile or anything, but he never steered me wrong.
