I really love making vocal synth duets and trios and other group songs but there is nothing worse on this earth than attempting to balance the audio levels

Major Project: KS-Oasis Education
Tumblr media
**crossing through the original idea as the new idea is an iteration on it
Overview
An exploration into modern education and the many forms it could take.
During the covid pandemic it became apparent that teachers of mandatory (primary and secondary) education are not prepared for the digital shift.
During my placement at Synergy Learning I worked on Learning Management Systems and I strongly believe they left much to be desired. A quarter of our team was dedicated to applying brand colours which contributed nothing to the learning experience - another quarter developed plugins of which, the requirements - never mind results - were never tested.
During my year, we only developed content, the actual stuff that matters, 2 or 3 times.
I saw, over and over, companies investing thousands of pounds on the look of their systems as opposed to the education they provide to their students.
Using easily accessible tools such as Google Classroom I want to create and test online educational content and teaching methods to begin building an approach which serves its students.
Pros
ive always wanted to work in education
the world is moving to digital and the education system is failing to keep up. We owe it to younger generation to pass on our knowledge as best we can. Standard online education is embarrassingly overdue
this could benefit kids physical or mental health issues who struggle to get to school otherwise
this approach could be revolutionary for kids with learning disabilities who struggle with standard learning styles
could this be turned into a government funded research project?
would be great experience working with a range of software
would be fascinating to work with teachers and students
could sell research to online schools like codecademy
Cons
cant be easily monetised
probably wont ever become a real product/approach as it would have to go through government
people may not be willing or able (for bureaucratic reasons) to move away from their current LMS or approach to learning
could be hard to test with kids: probably wont be allowed to run focus groups in schools, never mind during a global pandemic
How might it be built?
For storing all the information, I would most likely use Google Classroom as its an incredibly powerful tool along with the rest of the Google Suite. For example, slides allows for interactive slides which feel like games, and spreadsheets can be used as worksheets.
I can also create content in adobe illustrator, photoshop, spark and procreate to test for fonts and colours.
Furthermore there is a myriad of other software like kahoot, youtube, miro which I can test out.
Who’s it for?
Kids in primary and secondary education. For the sake of research, its probably best to focus on primary school only - kids who haven’t been molded by the standard education system/techniques yet.
What’s the business model?
selling research
government funding
educators could sub to a newsletter
A news outlet, onboarding people to sustainability. Primarily through the means of instagram, possibly a Facebook group. An exploration into modern education and the many forms it could take. Social media, a newsletter, a journal, a facebook group, speaking to extinction rebellion, books, zines, events, sustainable maps. How do we get people on board and keep them there?
Similar approach to @simplepolitics on insta.
Pros
This is an incredibly important topic to me
I believe we need to get as many people on board thinking and helping with cutting carbon and reducing single use plastics, before its too late and we all die of starvation
helps stop the spread of fake news
The multimedia approach will get me thinking outside the box of standard advertising
I have experience and continue to be interested in social media marketing/management: this is something I could do for a job so I want to keep exploring the concept
I haven’t found one thing that I’d like to specialise in, so I would like to continue experimenting with various mediums as a form of research into the best business marketing models
Cons
many people are opposed to/willfully blind the movement: climate deniers
this would require the user to invest energy and time into changing their lifestyle. Not something easily achieved.
very broad and therefore hard to mark
How might it be built?
Right now I’m thinking of this project as an instagram page with supporting products. This means I would get super involved in the sustainable community as well as local belfast community so that I can research, fact check and use social media to educate others about ways in which they can live sustainably in Belfast.
The spin off products could then be a map, a workbook/journal, online talks or even a bigger knowledge base similar to what Chris is doing with School of Design in Notion.
Who’s it for?
Ideally, there would be different products suited to different age groups:
| Age | Product |
| 5-12 | an illustrated book, school talks |
| 12-30 | instagram, journal, zines |
| 20-50 | newsletters, thinktank type events |
As this is very broad, I would probably focus my energy to the main target group which is 12-30 years of age.
What’s the business model?
Mainly, the business model is that we save the world from mass starvation.
Additionally, there will be merchendise:
‘Sustainable Belfast’ paper map for tourists #visitNI. I have seen Belfast and North Coast Coffee maps sold in coffee shops which invite tourists to travel NI from a coffee perspective. Why not Sustainable NI maps?
workbook/journal: I am thinking of writing my dissertation in the form of an interactive workbook so that the reader can engage with the text rather than decide its a long piece of boring student jargon. This could be distributed as a free PDF or a paid printed booklet (pricing tiers) to onboard users to the insta page.
go no code, focus on social media marketing
sell products to monetise
probs involve other giveaways
could possibly get funded by promoting local businesses i.e. one of those namedrop me for 20% off schemes, brand ambassador etc
youtube and publicise the hell out of my journey through this project
