who knew there was a difference? that thought stuck in jeandre's mind like glue, it seemed, as they were under the impression they might be able to get some privacy in this space; but the ten-eyed man had seemed to attract the attention of a fellow who sought to try to jar them. as if angering them had ever been that easy. doesn't this kazzardly man know it'll take a whole lot more than that to arouse their ire? in any case, the ritual that he was performing was supposed to be a secret one — so it was a bit rude that viktor interrupted him like this. especially with his face off, seeing as the scrying bowl in the middle of the circle often didn't register the eyes on his phalanges as actual eyes. thus... when asked what they were doing, the ten-eyed man saw no obligation to actually reveal the nature of the ritual to viktor.

and he simply told him he was being rebellious by trying to latche a glimpse of a man who had somehow escaped his ever-extending vision. because they were dead already, jeandre had told viktor, they just didn't know it yet. then as if the man owned the place, viktor advised him to finish up, considering he imagined the both of them wanted to be mace-proof. in other words, the other had guided the boys in blue straight to this door like the miscreant he seemed to be turning out to be. but hey — they, too, had many run-ins with the cops... so who was judging him for that? it was only when jeandre had told him he couldn't stop the ritual now that it was underway that this seemed to illicit something that made viktor truly annoyed. 'you're not rebellious,' he said, 'you're disobedient.'

jeandre could only faintly see through the eyes he was born with, especially with the dim lighting in the warehouse; but upon raising one of his hands up, they could see there was something clearly unique about the man who taigled in it. he appeared to be not entirely flesh and bone but of machinery. whether it was employed out of necessity or simply aesthetic didn't matter because jeandre was now interested in him. was viktor only starting with his work of recreating his body, they thought, bringing into question the ship of theseus — or how much of something can you replace before it becomes something else entirely — or did he already end the modifications? it would be a shame if he did. jeandre could use some more human body parts for his rituals.

they admittedly feel a bit like a scoundrel as they bring their legs down from their contorted position above themselves down to the ground so they could face viktor at their full height. the ten-eyed man was scarred in the face, and his fingers were scarred too from self-harm as he held both hands up to viktor to see him. but they were just proof that you lived, yes? at least, that's what dr. joy always told him. a velvety voice wrung out soon enough through the warehouse, ❝ well, you know what they say, my dear fellow; there's no delight without disorder. what kind of trouble did you get in that was horrific enough to have the police follow you all the way here, hmm? did you kill anyone? ❞

Ok hear me out: Narilamb but they're both aroace and in a qpr.

I've been rolling around in my head for like a long long time this idea that Narinder and Lambert could both be aroace and (after like. A couple of centuries or so) end up in this like very comfortable very close relationship that neither of them define as anything specific other than calling it a "companionship". But on the other hand most of the cult thinks that they're dating in secret or something despite the fact that both of them have said they don't take lovers, because they are clearly very tight but maybe not super openly so, so maybe the cultists thing they're being secretive and hiding something or something like that. Idk but my aroace brain loves thinking about extremely close (mostly) platonic relationships and for some reason my brain decided hmm. I'm going to take this and throw it at Narilamb and see how I like it.

So then I decided to make a ridiculous joke comic about Narinder asking Lambert's hand in marriage specifically because he wants to get out of paying taxes. Because like, I know that spouse followers do actually still have to pay taxes in the actual game but. Hey Narinder and Lambert have presumably never married so they probably don't know that...? Honestly the only reason I made this was because the concept tickled me and I spent too much time on this for no one to see it, so. This comic and all it's absolute ridiculousness be upon ye.

While there's a tiny part of me that's been thinking about making this into an AU (which I'd probably call something like the "Strictly Platonic AU" or something), I know for a fact that I would blatantly not do anything legitimate with it so. It's an unofficial AU I guess?? But. Anyways. I thought this would be funny. Enjoy my ramblings and I hope you enjoy this thing that I spent. Actual time on. Lol

listen, I think audiobooks are great. I think they "count". I'm not bothered by people calling listening to audiobooks reading. however, I think a large part of the reason people are annoyed by this recently is that there are many, many people online saying, "I've read 300 books this year" and then posting a lot of stuff implying they are superior to (or like to read more than) people who haven't.

But then, all it takes is to scroll back on their profile a little ways to find out that they "read" 300 books because they listened to audiobooks on 3x speed while they were doing other things and flat out didn't listen or absorb any of it and couldn't tell you what 90% of those books were about even if their life depended on it. And THAT is not reading. If you're actually taking in the story, sure, then you've read the book. If you're speed running the process without paying attention, then no, that's not reading. I would say the exact same thing about skimming/flipping through the book.
