Thunderbolts movie impression (No Spoilers version)

Only things I'm going to mention is cast that was shown publicly even before the release.

Also, if you haven't seen the trailers, don't. Gotta get the entire thing spoiled. They deadass showed all the best scenes in trailers, it sucks ass.

So, I haven't really checked marvel movies since like Infinity War (I've seen every single one before and them just stopped after Endgame lol). I've only seen like Spiderman and Deadpool movies after so..

I barely knew anything about the characters in the movie. And it was fine.

The plot writers gave enough context to understand characters' backstory (except for Ghost, didn't get any exposition for her, now I found out she's from Ant-Man and the Wasp movie) (And Bucky actually, but I've seen the older movies so it was fine for me). I think one of my main problems with marvel movies is that if you miss one you have no idea what's going on and the writers made a decent job with making Thunderbolts newbie-friendly.

The movie talks about mental health of all these superhuman characters and I think it's great to raise topics like these. We have seen characters' trauma and it was an interesting storytelling concept. Tho you can definitely tell which charas are background charas lol (*cough* Ghost *cough* Red Guardian)

Going in and watching Marvel movies I kinda just assume it's going to be just explosions and fights but this time it feels like it wasn't enough?? There was more plot stuff. Haven't decided yet if it's a good thing or not lol.

The main villian's power was pretty terrifying, in my opinion the most scariest from MCU actually, and it was awesome.

All in all, it was a good story, movie also was quite fun and generally enjoyable to watch. 8/10 recommend to see.

Names Sam Elizabeth McKenna (same as my DCU oc as well- they're both basically each other in each universe, one in the MCU and the other in the DCU, with both universes being AU version's)

Code name's Water Strider- it just sounds better than Water Spider to me :P

Also I just couldn't figure out a name with some variation of spider and a variation of water that sounded nice so I just stuck with an aquatic bug name I liked that sounded similar (ALSO- kinda connects with a little background lore but that parts not super necessary)

Alsooo the name actually works for a power move Sam uses that I like very much :3 (literally striding/gliding/walking/propelling across a body of water)

Now that I mention her powers- it's basically water manipulation plus water breathing, which is her only mutant ability, plus og Spider-man's powers, PLUS 4 organic extra arms on her back (with some very slight fuzz all over em that kinda acts like tiny cat whiskers- tho idk if I wanna keep that)

(there's lore for this dontcha worry ;3)

I was also thinking of having a slit at the ends of each extra arm for a claw to appear out of (that can also retract- like cats :3) tho knowing me I'd forget about that as soon as I decide to add it 😅) (so- 50/50 on that)

(tho the extra arms aren't permanent cuz- lore✨) (focusing on power explanations first)

I also was thinking organic webbing? It could work like regular Spider-Man webs PLUS the added bonus of working in tandem with her water manipulation (webs turning into ice shards to blast at enemies and just like- ye idk any other examples) (water manipulation being she's able to control ANY water on the planet, no matter the form- water in drinks, sweat, water in blood, rain, the entire ocean, ice, water vapor, etc) (aaaaannd also is able to make herself fully into water- and a titan sized water lady)

ALSO- I'm thinking of her mutant classification being somewhere in omega level cuz y'know- ocean manipulation and titan sized water lady stuff

OKAY uhh- I think that's all for her powers! :D

Now LORE/BACKGROUND STUFF

OKI so- childhood friends with Peter Parker and Ned since..... the first year of middle school (adding some elements from the marvel movies cuz why not- with an au spin of course) (also they don't know she's a mutant until a certain event senior year of highschool- gonna get back to that)

Powers manifest at... close to her 14th birthday- tho her powers start off very.. mild? Ye they're quite easy to control as long as her emotions are in check for the most part

However! That doesn't last long ;)

Powers start getting more out of hand- gradually.. until a fateful day a week after junior year of highschool ends

She gets kidnapped basically (mutant experimentation facility and what not- nothing super specific so far for that :P)

SO: for the entirety of that summer and senior year and THAT following summer- misses graduation, is considered missing, there's a whole investigation by Spider-Man that led to a dead end, all that stuff

THEN- THEEEEEEEEN🎵

X-MEN! NANANA!🎵

(Junior year - senior year - next year - year after)

(Note: Sam gets experimented on and the facility people add the arms and webs and fangs and spider powers, plus some extra animals sprinkled in there cuz yeah- experimentation✨ this includes one called water strider (same one as before mentioned- searched these lil dudes up awhile ago and they seem interesting so I thought I'd add em on ;3)

The year highlighted is when the X-Men get officially involved being tasked with trying to find a mutant experimentation facility (same one as before)

sOoOoo they get a lead to New York- Spidey hears about this and wants to help cuz hero✨✨✨✨

They find the facility in some wicked obscure remote location

They sneak in (there's a sorta specific X-Men squad I have in mind for this- [basically the X-Men 97 show's team] Nightcrawler (later love interest cuz fuk ye), Gambit, Rogue, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Morph, Storm, yeah the whole X-Men 97 team, I can't remember anymore rn ajhdsjfjf) PLUS SPIDER-MAN das important

They find a buncha holding cells with a buncha different mutants (not super important for this to go in specifics there)

So the squad and Spidey are all trying to get all the mutants out and LO AND BEHOLD SPIDEY FINDS SAM

So there's a Spidey sense thing that happens and they Sam figures out who Spider-Man is like- as SOON as he talks after the Spidey sense thing between em

There's a reunion and what not- tho it has to be short lived cuz they gotta get the fak outta there before they might get captured- plus Sam's equausted from quote on quote "training" the facility does so there's not much that happens here

Que Sam and Peter getting told by Nightcrawler to get going-

Que them running to the plane and leaving the facility and Kurt introducing himself and also the X-men telling all the mutants from the facility where they'll be going

So ye Kurt introduces himself and making sure Sam doesn't got any injuries or something, Sam introduces herself and compliments Kurt's eyes or something and they hit it off- Peter being in the conversation to as well somewhere (idk ashhdjhskfj- just ain't getting into live interest stuff yet- that comes in like- officially around 2 years for them but it starts like 6 months after this

So after that Spidey bids adew to everyone and goes back to New York and Sam stays at the Manor for a year (for proper training and and a trainee X-Men suit (black and yellow and what not and is spider themed like Peter's but obviously different)

So ye full year- Sam trains, gets an introduction into the X-Men, gets to know the X-Men, is able to do senior year at the mansion, graduates, starts falling for Kurt, teased relentlessly about it from some other X-Men, same goes for Kurt on his end falling for Sam

(Sam also gets the codename Water Strider during this year- since I headcannon the mansion being right next to a big lake and Sam's able to grow her powers there- so that'd include the whole water striding/gliding/walking

Once that year's over Peter invites her to stay at Stark tower with him for a year to meet the avengers and catch up and see Ned and meet MJ and everything :P

(am a sucker for Stark being like a dad to Peter so I'm adding it :3)

(also I like the ship between Stark and Dr Strange so that's also in there)

During that years Sam gets training from Black Widow cuz fuk ye that sounds awesome- she also makes a new suit, her official OFFICIAL hero suit, with help from Stark and Peter of course cuz she's not the most tech savvy Spider variant out there 😅)

(this suit she wears from here onwards, for now at least- cuz I got an idea, I just haven't fleshed all this out enough yet to work on it)

Aaaaannd now It's the following year and Water Strider and Spider-Man are patrolling New York

The X-Men are again in New York- smaller group, to check on Sam and see how she's doing (group includes Kurt, told ya the love interest stuff would come back >:3)

So ye dynamic Spider Duo arrive back at Start Tower after patrolling when they see the X-Men arriving (they let Stark know ahead of time- tho he didn't tell either Peter or Sam cuz Surprise!!!! Also he knows Sam's crushing ajhdkvjsjf)

So ye X-Men arrive and surprise surprise!!- plus they get to see Sam's new suit and Kurt's all smitten at this point seeing how much Sam's grown over the past year and it's basically all fluff while the X-Men hang around the tower for the day either training with Peter and Sam or just hanging out or playing games. They have lunch there and stay a bit into the evening, not for dinner tho :P

Sam's invited back to the Mansion whenever she likes (she definitely does take up that offer plenty, cuz Kurt and being X-Men and all)

OKAY- uhhhhh yeah that's the main stuff!! Got a little carried away with the background info there 😅 (it's more background info at this point than lore)

Wanted to be as detailed as possible without going super overboard with it

And for drawing Sam- I suppose you could draw her in something I'd wear if you want to! Or even in the trainee suit (it's mainly just the basic back and yellow with an X going across the chest- gotta find pictures for this cuz I got something specific in mind ajhdjzfjsjc)

Or official suit (the main colors a lightish blue if you wanna try designing something- I can give you more info and a ref on it when I get around to finishing the one I barely started)

Also- final "also-" - the arms retract

And mentioning the "lore" for the arms now: they aren't a permanent thing, there's an incident probably a few years or so down the line where the get burned and sliced off :P

Aaaaannd there is definitely more to this but all of that's later on after Kurt and Sam get together- plus it ain't super important at the moment

Update: Sam is honestly very heavily based off me- so personality wise she's basically me, with some similar background info growing up as well, plus likes and dislikes and interests and well

I know that everyone is pretty sure that the FF movie will mean that Johnny will now never be officialy let out of the closet but personally I feel like since the FF are so unpopular and ppl have been bugging Marvel and Disney for an actual canon & 'important' gay character that they may just? Use him? I'm absolutely losing it and its not going to happen (and if it does, good god, its going to be handled so badly) but imagine. Tho as long as they dont bring lyja in im ill count the movie as Ok

So I am going to go Full Conspiracy Theorist out here for a minute because when I and a couple others I personally know have been kind of saying “Johnny’s never coming out now” it refers to a very specific recent incident that we were kind of side eyeing for Possible Movie Interference even before this announcement. Saying up front that I don’t know that this is true, and even if Someone Did Change The Script it’s just as likely to be comic editorial pulling the plug than Kevin Feige coming down from on high to stuff Johnny back in the closet like he’s the Plant Man and it’s the ‘60s:

So here’s the deal: we know that there are several creators involved with Marvel who hold the belief that Johnny Storm is not the bastion of heterosexuality he’s very often been pushed as. Marjorie Liu (and most likely Daniel Way but we only have Marjorie Liu’s word on this last time I checked) intentionally wrote the relationship between him and Daken in Dark Wolverine as sexual. When I reviewed Marvels Snapshot: Fantastic Four for Women Write About Comics I received some very nice commentary from the creators and a retweet from Kurt Busiek, who is in charge of the Snapshot collection -- and I spend the majority of that review pretty openly talking about the subtext of Johnny’s sexuality and the history that has. So like, this is out there, it goes beyond fandom circles. People know, and you can tell, because a lot of the time multiple creators don’t spend decades making jokes about a character being gay if they don’t kind of think that character is gay. (I am looking at you, John Byrne.) But anyway, fast forward. It’s 2018 and the Fantastic Four are back on the shelves after their Film Rights Mandated Banishment (that Jonathan Hickman leaked as being a Real Thing and not another conspiracy theory). And while I have some significant problems with the 2018 run so far, I have to say, that first issue starts off strong, not in the least because it also featured the return of Wyatt Wingfoot, Johnny’s best friend and former roommate. Turned current roommate again, since apparently they were living together. They were also touching a lot.

Like a lot lot. Love a boyfriend leash. (Fantastic Four v6 #1) And like, look, longtime Johnny readers can tell you all about his long relationship with Wyatt Wingfoot and the subtext you can read into it, but a lot of casual readers noticed this too. People were talking about it. It was noticed. It was pretty obviously paralleled against Ben and Alicia, who were getting engaged at the same time.

Fast forward a couple of issues, all of which Wyatt sticks around for -- he was pretty obviously living with the Fantastic Four after their return for a couple of issues there -- to Ben’s bachelor party, where he and Johnny have this particular conversation:

“When you know -- and you’ll know -- take that leap. Don’t wait fer stronger shielding. Be brave, Johnny Storm.” (FF v6 #5) There’s a lot to unpack here in general, but the “be brave, Johnny Storm” sentiment continually sticks out to me, along with how ungendered this speech is -- not when you meet the right woman, blah blah blah. It’s not a big jump to imagine this as leading out to a coming out narrative, and that’s before we factor in this solicit for Fantastic Four #7:

“Plus a strange new development in the life of the Human Torch.” If you’ve read the issue, however, you know literally nothing of note happens to Johnny in it, let alone anything you could consider a new development, strange or not. It seems pretty clear, if you pull the clues, that there was originally some kind of plot involving Johnny -- and likely his romantic future -- in the original plans but then at some point that plot got pulled and likely replaced by the current Sky soulmate plot that has literally left Johnny shackled by heterosexuality. So it’s clear that at some point in early 2019 something shifted and this Johnny plot got pulled, for whatever reason. And I have no proof beyond all this circumstantial evidence that they were lining up anything that was actually going to concretely within the actual Fantastic Four book address his sexuality, but I think given the circumstantial evidence it is a valid theory. I don’t know if I specifically believe that the reasoning behind whatever this plot getting pulled was MCU interference, but it’s likely that the Fantastic Four project was seriously in development by that point to be able to announce it now, and if, by whatever chance, my “Johnny was going to come out” theory was true, we also know that the MCU has a serious problem with actually handling queer representation within their universe -- see Tessa Thompson’s bisexual Valkyrie scene getting cut, the entire Gay Joe Russo incident. They’re, what, 20+ movies in now and there are no actual queer main characters, right? I know Eternals is apparently changing that, but Eternals is not out yet, and also has significantly less name recognition than Fantastic Four. It’s not a great record, and while I would like to think that maybe that could change either with the Fantastic Four or by the time a Fantastic Four movie rolls out, I just don’t have that kind of faith. But if I’m wrong I’ll totally donate double the cost of the ticket and large popcorn to a charity that actually deserves it.

So there’s my conspiracy theory! Some people do this with celebrities, I do it with Johnny Storm. It’s probably equally unrewarding either way.

I didn't want Clint or Natasha to die. But out of the two Clint should have died tbh. She had a more center role in the movies and not many know who tf Clint is. And he won't be back in New films. Whereas she could have been. I'm over marvel now. I'll check them out but not see them straight away

ya same like i’m a huge clint/nat fan so i didn’t want it to be either of them BUT in terms of what canon has given us, nat is definitely more important and like?? they’ve never known what to do with clint right like whatever. and obvs we don’t really know the level of awful things she did before becoming an avenger but i’d say she’s saved the world enough that she’s wiped the red from her ledger, whereas clint went on a killing spree after his family was dusted. like if anyone still needs to atone, it’s him.

i’d say they’ve both been subject to bad writing but. with her having such a significant role in catws her character had much more potential than his ever did bc the first two avengers movies basically sidelined nat, clint and bruce as they’re the ones who didn’t get trilogies, and clint wasn’t even in iw. so like. it shouldn’t have been her.

even if scarlett wants to leave (idk if there’s actually been any indication that’s the reason), they could have found another way to write her off (tho same with evans and rdj - but nat’s ending was the worst of the three)

and like. i’ve obvs been looking forward to a black widow movie, even as a prequel, but knowing how her story ends now? it just makes me mad ya know. if it took them this long to give it to us, why even bother doing it after her character is dead? if they were gonna be the focus, all of the original avengers should have had their own movies at the start of the mcu before they gave anyone a sequel or branched out into other shit. steve, tony and thor all got fleshed out stories and nat, clint and bruce (ik there is an incredible hulk movies and it’s actually p decent but everyone including marvel seems to forget that so) got the scraps like. it’s not even just the dumbness of endgame or aou or cacw or anything, the mcu did things wrong since the beginning

and yeah, i mean, i’ve only seen certain movies in theaters and the only ones i saw opening night were cacw, iw and endgame (tbf i’ve only been a fan since late 2015). i guess i’ll see what’s next but honestly i’ll go see new movies if someone asks me to, but i don’t think it’s likely i’ll be begging my friends to go see them immediately either. i’ll still keep up with everything, but i’m just so bitter about all my faves that it makes me a lot less excited about any of it

First and foremost–just know you don’t have to create multiple sideblogs. I enjoy filing things into separate categories and making tags. If you don’t want to put in the effort to manage multiple blogs, you don’t gotta. If you’re concerned about followers not liking some of the shit you post, just tag as well as you can so they can blacklist what they don’t like and more easily find what they do like. Who knows, maybe keeping all of your shit in one space means someone will find your blog and go, “Holy shit, this bitch not only likes X, she also likes, Y?? AND Z????” and that’s an instant friend!

Or maybe you’re like me when I was a freshman in college and your friends go, “I wanna follow your tumblr but I can’t fucking stand that you’re posting Glee, so I might have to unfollow you” and so you make a separate sideblog. And then you had to keep doing that because everyone hates your newest hyperfixation (thus main and personal blog became those 2 blogs + 1d blog + anime blog + kpop blog).

ANYWAYS my actual TIPS are–

XKIT ALWAYS. The one click postage with the drop down menu makes reblogging to separate accounts SO EASY. Also, if you wanna migrate content from your main to your sideblog, quick tags helps out a bunch.

@theme-hunter is good for finding multiple, distinct themes for each of your blogs so they all have their own flavor!

Don’t be afraid to promo and cross post. If I make a post on my main blog but want it to get more attention, I can and will reblog it to this blog and rub it in your faces.

Use similar tagging styles across blogs. I fucked this up and now how I tag ships on some blogs does NOT match how I tag them on others and it SUCKS. My main blog I used to do NameName and on my anime blog I do Name X Name because it makes searching easier. ANd it’s… annoying.

Don’t stress too much about having a clear division of what posts go where. Like, Tessa Thompson is supposed to go on my main blog since she’s an MCU actress. But also she was in a Janelle Monae video, so she ends up on my music blog and she was in Sorry to Bother You, so she ends up here sometimes too. Sometimes, the same post of her goes on all three blogs. Who gives a fuck? You’re reblogging content yout hink is quality, why not reblog it 18 fucking times.

Don’t post shit on one blog you wouldn’t want people on the other blogs to find out. I don’t care if your sideblog is Super Anonymous, just don’t have them linked to the same account. You can and will reblog things to the wrong account and it’s gonna be awkward if one blog is “Here’s my penis photoshopped to look like different DND races and classes” and your main blog is something your family follows.

Have fun. It’s fucking tumblr, nothing here matters.

Also, be prepared for some blogs to matter more than others. For a long time, my 1d blog felt like my main blog even tho… it’s a sideblog. Now, I am a husk of a human being and this blog is more my main blog… even though it is also a sideblog.  Shit happens.

On that note, DON’T put shit on one blog that you would mind seen on another blog. If your sideblog is “Here’s my dick photoshopped into famous cinematic moments” and your main is something nice your friends and family follow... you WILL accidentally put your entire dick and balls onto your main blog by accident. ANd, no, you won’t delete it fast enough.
