one of the funniest consequences of US politics unfortunately entering other countries' political landscape is that in spain conservatives have decided that 'merry christmas' (feliz navidad) is the only correct way to say it and that 'happy holidays' (felices fiestas) is woke when the holiday season here ends on january 6th so we've always said felices fiestas cause christmas is just the beginning. there's tweets of conservatives saying felices fiestas from years ago. that's like the common phrase most people use like normally you would say feliz navidad only on december 24th-25th. all christmas ads and illuminated signs have always said felices fiestas. and yet

why do people think that gender is solely an issue of white supremacy, that's like the most insane tier of noble savage shit ive heard and also like. do you know any history of anywhere in the world besides idk fucking north america and europe. just because there are systems that intertwine and reinforce one another does not mean that they require each other to exist. fucking, what no class analysis does to someone i suppose.

i hate gun batman
I hate Gun Batman! He's stupid!
Not for the reasons you think.
I'm fine with Tim becoming evil in an alt universe. That's interesting. I would love to see how this impacts him as a character.
I am not, however, fine with how it happened.
First of all: Batman???
Tim would go evil, sure, but he would not disrespect one of the symbols he's looked up to. He values the symbolism and meaning of Batman&Robin more than the majority of the Batfam. To Tim, the symbols matter. And he would not corrupt one of those symbols without losing his respect for that symbol.
See, even if Bruce fucked up majorly (which he has many times: see Tim's sixteenth birthday) Tim would still respect Batman as a symbol. Tim compartmentalizes practically everything about his life. To him Robin and Tim are not the same person and they don't mean the same thing. Why would Batman be any different?
The symbols are about public perception and what they mean to the people of Gotham, not just what they mean to the other vigilantes. So even if Bruce fucks up with Tim personally, Tim will still value Batman as a symbol of justice and mercy and second chances. He would not use a symbol like Batman to impose a society where free will doesn't exist. He would have to lose respect for Batman as a symbol to do that, and the provided explanation (all of the Bats dying, basically) wouldn't do it.
If anything, he'd see it as disrespectful to the dead to take the symbol that Bruce upheld and turn it into a dictator.
This goes for Robin, too, by the way. Tim wouldn't be an evil Robin any more than he would be an evil Batman, because he places immense value in the symbols of Batman&Robin. He respects what they mean, what they accomplish, and what they inspire just as much as (if not more than) he respects the actual people inside the suits.
So don't make Tim Batman. Easy fix.
Or, if they had to make Tim Batman, find a better reasoning! Make him lose his respect for the symbols! That would be interesting from a character analysis standpoint and also devastating for Tim to see himself betraying something he places so much value in.
Give him a reason to lose respect in the symbols! If he has to be Batman, make it make sense.
Secondly, the weapon.
Using the gun that killed Bruce's parents? I'm sorry Tim would never.
Or like, he would, but only if he felt betrayed by Bruce. Which he didn't. He lost Bruce. He wouldn't use a weapon with such a personal meaning to Bruce as a force for evil, because he respects the man.
(whether or not he should respect Bruce is a different conversation, the point is that he does)
I believe the reasoning in-universe for why he uses the gun is that he's "reclaiming" it as a force for good? Stupid reasoning. Tim knows how Bruce felt about guns.
He wouldn't disrespect the symbol of Batman by wielding a gun as Batman, and he wouldn't disrespect his mentor figure by taking the source of a personal tragedy and using it to cause more tragedy. Not to mention that Bruce absolutely hated guns.
Tim! Respects! The! Symbols! And! The! People! Behind! The! Symbols!
Thirdly, the motivation.
It's a stupid ass motivation.
Well. I mean. That's not quite it. Tim Being Alone is absolutely what would kickstart his evil arc. Every single time Tim is alone is the bad timeline.
But that wouldn't make him want to eliminate free will. If anything he would put more effort into protecting people- he lost his family, so now he has to make sure he doesn't fail to protect anyone else.
So, in order to get a Tim that would resort to eliminating free will, you have to add a secondary motivation.
For example: Tim loses all of the Bats. They're dead. He still wants to protect people and give them second chances, but... they keep making the obviously wrong choices. They choose to make things worse instead of better. Tim starts to fixate on only the people who keep wasting their second chances. He can't seem to see the people who use those chances for good, because to him it looks like there are so much less of them. And he can see how to make it better. So he does. He assumes control.
That is a good way to make Tim resort to eliminating free will. It takes one of his already established flaws (thinking that he's correct about the majority of things) and expands upon it. It gives him a reason to want to say goodbye to free will other than 'wah my family is dead.'
Because, like I said, Tim compartmentalizes. If he had the support of the Titans (who aren't dead in the Gun Batman timeline)- actual unwavering support and not just saying 'go to therapy, Tim' and taking away the only source of stability in his life- then he could recover. He would still hurt and he wouldn't be the same but he could recover.
And Tim also doesn't place much value in himself. His personal loss wouldn't matter in the face of everyone else who he perceives as mattering more. So sure, he'd be upset and grieving and all that, but he would also place more value in the well-being of Gotham than his grief.
However, if he begins to see the people of Gotham as not worthy of saving (which would take a lot) then he would want to fix it. He would fixate on their flaws and try to make them better.
That is how Tim would become a free-will-removing dictator. It would be because of loss, yes, but it wouldn't be only because of loss.
Fourth: Gun Batman just isn't that creative.
They just gave him his mentor's title and called it a day. Come on. If you're going to make Tim a villain be creative about it! Base his villainy around something Tim already has an interest in!
It feels lazy. Evil future Tim is Batman, because Batman was his mentor and that's good for drama! Please. Tim respects the symbols too much to do that. It doesn't fit his character. And if you want it to fit his character either give him a reason to stop respecting the symbols or make him not disrespect the symbols.
Take something Tim enjoys or is good at and make that his evil self.
A more crack-ish evil Tim that focuses on cars and driving! He might even skateboard- he made a skateboard that could go 80mph one time, I believe.
An omnipresent-feeling evil Tim that does most of his work through computers! (If you wanted to make this about his loss, what about 'honoring' Barbara by becoming an Oracle-adjacent figure? Babs taught him to hack, I believe. If he becomes a hacker then he could also 'honor' her that way.)
(This of course assumes that Tim believes he is doing the right thing and thinks that what he's doing would honor Babs. This is different from Gun Batman because it isn't taking something that Batman hates and using it as a weapon. It isn't corrupting a symbol of mercy and second chances. Oracle isn't a 'symbol,' it's just a respected vigilante and a person that Tim would like to honor. Am I making sense? It's the same way Tim thinks Nightwing is a respected vigilante but not a symbol in the way that Batman&Robin are.)
A pyromaniac evil Tim that blows shit up!
A petty evil Tim that becomes the Red Hood and uses guns that way. It would be so interesting to see what would lead Tim to that! Is it spite? Is it begrudging respect? Is it to be funny and continue the joke that Tim 'steals' Jason's names?
An evil Tim that stayed with the League post-Brucequest!
An evil Tim who's so loyal to his friends that he took down the JL for them! (Superman was dismissive of Kon, or Barry/Wally/Whoever didn't support Bart, or Cassie felt pressured to be perfect, etc etc)
See? It wasn't that hard to come up with these. Do they all make sense? No. Would all of them make a compelling story? No. But they're all more creative or make more sense than Tim becoming Gun Batman.
And that took me about ten minutes. It took me ten minutes to think of traits that Tim has or things he enjoys that could translate into an interesting villain. Obviously, these ideas aren't perfect. But I spent ten minutes on them.
It's just... it feels lazy to just take the name of Tim's mentor and give him that. Make evil Tim themed around things that Tim is good at or things that he enjoys. It isn't /that/ hard.
Finally: Gun Batman feels contrived.
This might just be me. But I feel like Gun Batman was created just to make it so that Tim had a reason to not become Batman.
It feels lazy and contrived. They needed Tim to not become Batman so they made Tim-as-Batman evil.
Again, this might just be me, and the reason for Gun Batman might be something else, but still.
Conclusion Time!
I hate Gun Batman. I hate Gun Batman with all of my heart. I think evil alt-universe Tim could be so much more interesting and creative than "give him a gun and make him Batman." I think Gun Batman is a waste of potential. I think Gun Batman doesn't make sense for Tim as a character.
Thank you for your time. DC, hire me to make evil Tim. I could do it.

I apologize for the delay on the next chapter of Disillusioned, it was absolutely my intention to publish it last week but I was bitten by a feral kitten I was TNRing last Monday and that sent my health anxiety/OCD into a spiral lmao. I mean, I know the risk of rabies is nonexistent and it was too small of a puncture for tetanus to be a risk, but anyone with HA knows that you can't use logic to reason through it lol.
BUT I just finished proofreading the newest chapter right now, so I will definitely publish it tomorrow night. :D

Having the events of the dlc occur concurrent to the base game and having everyone in the base game refuse to acknowlege anything that happens in the dlc is such a dumb move. What were they thinking.
Ranni and Miquella would surely have words for one another??? Gideon would want to know??? Hello?????
